Me and Squee, we’re going places 😎 What places those are, I have no idea, but we’re definitely going to them. 📸Amanda Rose #DiscDog #DogSports #CanineAthletes #TossAndFetch #Fetch #BorderColliesOfInstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl47f6lsPcA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Which disc league is it? If it is UpDog Bite Club or K9 Toss'n'fetch league, the chuckit paraflights are allowed. The problem with them is that they are hard to throw distances and are very susceptible to wind. Though there are a couple people in my club who are skilled enough to get them out 25ish yards.
Other than that, like grison said, it depends on why your dog has the preference.
It could be an intimidation factor, in which case smaller pup discs help. That was Bern's issue. I found she really liked the atom taffy since it was smaller and a softer flexy plastic.
If it is the hardness of the plastic, your best bet would be the herodisc USA Xtra supersoft. Unfortunately they are usually limited runs and expensive for light plastic. Option 2 for light plastic might be the hyperflite sofflite though that is a soft recommend since i havent seen it in a few years and they like to change their formulas. Other more durable options would be the herodisc superaero or the hyperflite hyperflex discs.
If it is the flight path/lightness, discovering the world has frisbee fastbacks. Get the practice blems. They are very non durable. Also rule out texture first since they do make a thonk when caught which can be off putting.
But yeah. Def talk to your disc club before in case the paraflite work. They may also have a stash (or people will have ones you can borrow) to try first without getting. IME disc dog folk are very helpful to new folks.
Do you have any disc recommendations for dogs that strongly prefer the foam Chuckit discs? I've been trying to get him switched to the plastic ones so we can join our local disc league
I have no idea, I'm afraid; I'm very new to this myself. I'm going to punt the question over to @groenendaze, who is a much more experienced disc person and was kind enough to give me a really nice introduction to disc options last fall.
Think about what your dog likes about the foam disc, too: I found that the full size Hyperflite Jawz for example is too heavy: I can't throw it and get it to float well enough for Matilda to routinely catch, and she does not appreciate that. The Pup discs work much better for her that way, but I think the size is less important than weight; on the other hand, she's maybe 20" tops at the shoulder, it's not like she needs a huge disc. The K10s in competition weight worked better yet, although the wind made it harder to gauge. She has a strong preference for Not Fullsize Jawz, I think because she seems to find catching discs rewarding but she is not the fastest dog in the world, so she just can't get out fast enough to nab those out of the air.
On the other hand, if the preference is about the texture of the chomp, picking a disc is going to depend on different factors.
#discdog#disc dog#there is also the gummi go getter from hero#but ime it throws just as bad as the paraflite

I haven’t been very good at keeping ya’ll updated. But Butter got halfway to qualifying for Updog’s nationals (Updif) this year. We got a little sidetracked with a different sport though, so we won’t be pushing hard to go to Updif after all.

You may remember Jax, our fearful mini Aussie who struggled when meeting new people. We've just received a wonderful update from his people - people who were willing to take a chance on him despite his reticence, and if I'm not mistaken, he really wasn't interested in allowing petting during the meet and greet. Here he is - renamed Riley - a completely different dog!! This is why we do what we do. #rightdogrighthome #mabcrriley #mabcr #midatlanticbordercollierescue #midatlanticbordercollierescuealumni #discdog (at MABCR) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGQMxgFHeme/?igshid=1pr6lqi8enz09
