There was no way that she could live freely after what she’d seen but that didn’t mean she had to die either. It was nice, though, to be able to forget about all that had happened over the past few hours. Eden hopped off his back. "I'll go grab us some food. You keep your pretty face out of trouble." His heart felt like it was being torn from his chest. The person he had envisioned walking down the aisle with and building a future together had walked away, leaving him standing there alone. After all the guests quietly offered their condolences and departed the wedding hall, he could no longer bear the crushing emotional weight pressing down on his shoulders. He needed to get away, to find a place where he could sit with his own thoughts and try to understand where their relationship had gone so terribly wrong. Had he really been so blind to it? One place immediately came to mind, a location he hadn't visited in a while but where he knew he could find solitude.

Taking the short drive to the spot, Alex parked his car along the gravel road and took the familiar path toward the lookout point. The bench was still there although he couldn't see its entirety, seemingly untouched by time. He could feel tears threatening to spill from his eyes as he continued walking up to the bench, which offered a panoramic view of the entire city. But then, his eyes settled on someone already occupying the area.

He couldn't believe it—it was someone he had dated in college, the exact person he used to come to this spot with. He had no idea they still visited this place. He couldn't help himself as he approached softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Wh-what are you doing here?"
