so sick of the edm community and it breaks my heart</3 i've been going to these kinds of events for 10 years this year and lately I come away feeling disillusioned and frustrated after shows. I'm sick of meeting fucking wooks because like it's not "nice to meet you" anymore when we've met 10 times in the last 6 months and I remember every time but you're too fucked up to remember any of it. I'm sooooooo sick of a lineup of five white guys being billed as "diverse" because they all make very slightly different dubstep. I'm sick of the oversaturation of edm that all sounds the same bc people are just tryna make a living off partying instead of actually innovating and pushing new sounds. everyone is either on too high of a horse or just straight too high to interact with. I don't want to say it wasn't like this bc it probably was but I def wasn't as acutely aware of this part of the scene 10 years ago when we still practiced PLUR and shit.
“I picked out some albums yall to listen to, underground tracks to celebrate and some historical anecdotes for us to reflect upon for the rest of this month and hopefully the rest of your lives”
Gum.mp3 also known as DirtyBird is a Dj and artist. On his twitter (where I was first introduced to him) he actively shares various resources on radical politics, abolitionism, anti-imperialism, etc. Gum.mp3 understands that most subcultures are rooted in anti-establishmentism and is well versed in such. For example he creates a lot of house and dance music, the sub-genres he creates music for are closely linked with afro-futurism, and he employs his listeners to read up and be aware of these roots. Last year (2022) gum had an interview with Resident Advisor through a twitter thread highlighting black dance artists in the music scene for black history month. Each album or artist recommended has importance to the various scenes they belong to from inception to contemporary, being a part of said subcultures/scenes the history and these works are important and to not be forgotten. Gum.mp3 in this instance is educating those within the scene through Resident Advisor, sharing of knowledge like this is activism and is informing those through an accessible public forum.

L.R.S - Get Fucked Up [BIRDFEED]
[BIRDFEED EXCLUSIVE] L.R.S debuts on the Feed with “Get Fucked Up”!
-How long have you been creating music?
I have been creating funk, soul & hiphop under a different name for around 6 or 7 years now. I only recently started my house music alias LRS (Love Reigns Supreme). House music has always been a passion of mine. I frequented raves and clubs since my teens and have always had a foot in the scene.
-What do you use to make your tracks?
My favourite software/plugin I use is loopcloud for finding good samples and chopping them up. I can find rhythms and grooves from tons of sample packs and twist and shape them as I please. Its been a game changer for me.
-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?
I honestly don’t remember when I discovered Dirty Bird but I came across the label on Soundcloud. I was drawn to its distinct style and creativeness.
-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?
Walker & Royce = Dons.
-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?
The Pursuit Of Happiness. A road filled with hard work & determination.
-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
The Prodigy hands down. I have witnessed them live many times. Their energy is insane.
-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
I would go to Detroit in the 60s just to see all those legends of soul music doing their thing live.
-What species of bird best describes you and why?
I would say a woodpecker because Im always banging out beats but my girlfriend says a Do Do haha….FML
-What does Dirtybird mean to you?
To me DirtyBird means upfront, original, creative, forward thinking and just down right dirty.

On the afternoon of November 15, 2023, Dirtybird’s head honcho Claude VonStroke posted a tweet that sent shockwaves rippling the electronic dance music community. “I’m taking a hiatus from Claude VonStroke and building something totally new as Barclay Crenshaw,” he noted alongside a compilation of pictures and a flyer for the final shows under his house alias.

When two house music veterans join forces on Viva Recordings for some music action, you know you've got something special. And that's certainly the case with "You Got Something," the first of a two-part single from San Francisco keyboard and studio legend Sen-Sei (Delve Deeper, Nervous) and renowned DJ-turned-producer HUGEhands (AKA James Druett — i Records, Sound Vessel). The pair have come together for a slinky, late-night deep house charmer full of left-coast vibes, dubby flavors, and solid musicianship. A punchy rhythm-and-bass track leads the dancefloor on a journey through affecting vocal hooks, echoed sax riffs, and intricately layered keyboard sections. Col Lawton (Deep Fix Recordings) slips into the collab with a spacious remix of "You Got Something," blending dreamy effects and flourishes with the original's melodic craft. The result is a tad jazzier while gliding further into the deep side, eventually sprinkled with a floor-lifting acid bass line. Both sides of this single are sure to become DJ staples, soon to be accompanied by the release of Part 2.
Hector Romero (Saw Recordings) – “Very nice deep groove by Sen-Sei & HUGEhands.”
Tony H (Dirtybird) – “Both the OG and the Remix are very vibey. I did it.”
Dan Laino (Phunk Junk Records) – “Both tracks are great, but I’m digging the remix vibe.”
DJ Osric (Black and Blue Show) – “Quality house music. Sensational.”
Mike Solus (Housemasters Radio) – “Sen-Sei & HUGEhands, thanks for this. I like what you’ve done here.”
Jon Manley (hOUSEwORX) – “Top notch Deep House from Sen-Sei & HUGEhands. This is a proper feeling.”

after sitting on this absolute heater for three years, JMart has finally decided to bless us with some of his unique wonky house. not only that, but this release marks the first from his new label What to Do. much like his buddy Will Clarke, it seems Justin is jumping ship from Dirtybird to carve his own path in the tech house scene. will be interesting to follow and see what other artists release on the label, and which freshmen Dirtybird will bring into their roster.
the track is classic Justin, with light synths complimenting a funky guitar riff before his signature chunky bassline kicks in alongside ethereal vocal samples (and that damn metal percussion hit!!!!). straddles the line between dance floor heat and afters chilling - def will see this getting a lot of play in the future.
