Gravity Falls fanfic I’m too lazy to write
Bill Cipher has been in the Theraprism a LONG time. It’s a good thing the Theraprism is in the neutral zone, outside of time because – if clocks worked there – he would have been there for 42 lifetimes of the universe.
It’s been slow work but Bill has made some progress. He’s at a point where he’s confronted the horrible things he’s done. He’s no longer living in denial and hiding behind a cheery façade. Unfortunately, he’s now deep in self-loathing and he’s been there for a long time, unable to move forward and grow.
Then the unthinkable happens. Something happens to the Theraprism and Bill takes his chance. He ends up back in our universe.
Half dead, glitchy and weak, Bill starts traveling backwards through his own timeline. Everywhere and when he finds himself, he desperately trying to change how things turned out and thwart his past self’s plans.
Bill arrives the day before ‘Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future’ and enters Mabel’s dream.
“Mable! Tomorrow you’re going to have a really bad day. I know you don’t want summer to end but when the Time Traveller turns up and offers you more time, don’t give him anything!
It’s a trap. I’ll be… he’ll be…
Look I’m from the future and past me possessed him. Just ask him to take off his goggles so you can see his eyes.”
He jumps further back. Dipper has been trying to guess the password to the laptop for two days and he’s getting nowhere. Bill’s past self is going offer to give Dipper a ‘clue’ in a few days time but current Bill gets there first.
“Dipper! Don’t scream! Everything’s fine! … or it will be. Just shut up and listen! This is important!
The password is ‘Stanford’ and the laptop was made by McGucket. The Journals were written by your Grunkle Ford. He fell through a portal 30 years ago and your Grunkle Stan’s been secretly trying trying to get him back ever since. He’s going to succeed.
Don’t ever make a deal with me. I can’t be trusted and the price is always too high.”
Bill jumps back again and again and again. The thing is, he’s been chased. Time Baby wants the Time Anomaly Removal Crew to catch him because his actions are causing new timelines to splinter off from what Time Baby sees as the ‘canon’ one. Bill’s old guards/therapists want to catch him and drag him back to the Theraprism for more treatment.
However, the worst danger Bill is in, is from his past self. He’s traveling back down his own timeline after all and his past self is always nearby.
Past Bill hates what he sees as a pathetic, broken version of himself. If he ever catches himself, first he’ll find out what happened to make a future version of himself turn out this way so he can avoid making the same mistakes. Then, he’ll kill this miserable excuse of a Bill Cipher. There’s only room for one of them and past Bill is going to make sure he comes out on top.
Current Bill never actually planned any of this out. He’s doing the best he can. If he has any sort of aim, it’s to make it back to before he killed his home universe. Hurt and weaken as he is, Bill still thinks if he makes it back that far, he can probably kill his younger self. Either way, he doesn’t plan to ask the Axolotl for another chance this time around.

I’ve rewatched “Gravity Falls” episodes 17-18 season 2. And here start episodes which are the mots BIG PLOT! In the first episode, our twins think about their future. Mable wants to have a party on their 13th birthday and dreams of high-school while Dipper goes on an adventure with Ford (Spoilers!) to hide the “crack” inside a real UFO (which was under the town the whole time!) and Ford offers him an apprenticeship. And here the piece de resistance: because Mable who’s very disappointed with her future after talking to Wendy about high-school, besides, doesn’t want to be separated with her brother. So, they accidentally switch backpacks and it ends up with Mable being tricked by Bill Cypher and giving him the crack. So – the Weirdmageddon begins. The next episode (and all the rest of them) is about this “remarkable event”. Bill releases his friends and they start absolute chaos, turning people into stone and just turning everything into something very strange and creepy. Talking about creepy – the opening to that and all the rest episodes is probably one of the spookiest things I’ve ever seen in my life especially compared with the classical one. Getting back to the plot – Dipper and Wendy (who’s the best person to team up in the apocalyptic situation) are trying to save Mable from a huge bubble guarded by Gideon and his prison pals. Well, they managed just to talk Gideon to rebel against Bill and getting Soos with them to the bubble.

Mabel bad?
Oof sorry for never answering you nonnie! I’ve been pretty busy lately haha. But the post you’re responding to is a bit...old. I now understand Mabel a bit more now as a person, however I do still dislike her as a character because her flaws I was talking about in that post are never meaningfully addressed.
This might get a wee bit long, oops. Click for a big Gravity Falls writing analysis/essay/thingy.
It’s good for characters to have flaws. Flaws that actually affect them and have consequences. Otherwise you have something of a Mary Sue that isn’t relatable and has a story that’s too easy and boring for the audience. The narrative punishes or addresses those flaws and they present a challenge for the character.
But at the opposite end, you have characters who have flaws that the narrative never addresses, which means the characters never have to grow. There’s two reasons this is bad. One, that you can have the same issue where they don’t face any struggle or grow as characters and it’s a boring story, or two, people don’t generally like to root for characters who they’d want to punch if they ever met them irl. You can have a story with main characters who are bad people, but you have to either make the character likable in other ways, present the situation so that the audience can gather that they’re in the wrong and either be rooting for their downfall or their growth, or have their actual story be compelling enough that the need to know what happens next outweighs dislike for the character. (And all of these things often require the story to be told from said bad character’s point of view.) Gravity Falls doesn't really do any of these things. Or rather, it tries but is ineffective for around 50% of the viewers.
Mabel is often presented as a pure soul, good of heart and just overall a good person. But she’s got flaws. She’s selfish and a bit inconsiderate, which is normal and not an unforgivably terrible thing, especially for a 13 year old girl figuring out her place in the world. All the Pines are a bit selfish, I think it runs in their genes. But the thing is, the show will treat her selfishness as perfectly fair and normal, with anyone her selfishness affects being shown as in the wrong. She often guilts people, mainly Dipper, into sacrificing things for her while rarely making any sacrifices of her own. She does it to other characters as well, but here’s a brief list of times Dipper has sacrificed something for Mabel (which I compiled with the help of this post on Quora):
Tourist Trapped: Dipper spends almost the entire time worried about Mabel’s safety and trying to protect her, while she just brushes him off and laughs at him.
The Hand that Rocks the Mabel: Dipper agrees to break up with Gideon for her.
Time Traveler’s Pig: Mabel insists that Dipper give up the reality that doesn't break his heart so that she can adopt Waddles, and when he initially refuses she purposely endangers the space-time continuum as retaliation.
Little Dipper: Mabel is very angry about Dipper making himself taller, even though Dipper would not have resorted to it if now for her teasing. She immediately demands and fights for the magic flashlight, causing it to fall into Gideon’s hands.
Summerween: Mabel drags Dipper out to go trick-or-treating in a costume he dislikes because she’d planned on them having a duo costume.
Boss Mabel: I shouldn’t even really have to explain this one, the whole episode is about her going on a power trip.
The Deep End: Mabel embarks on a rescue mission for Mermando, doing and using things that would lead to Dipper being fired from the pool job he loves, without consulting him at all. She hears his concerns and instead of just explaining she’s saving Mermando the first time, she completely ignores him and speeds off, destroying more pool property and ensuring he’ll be fired.
Carpet Diem: Dipper informs her of the the issues he has with her roommate habits, and she completely denies any fault, even though she and her friends had legitimately destroyed the room and the mini-golf course the twins had built. The two of them both overreact, and act selfishly throughout the entire episode, but she absolutely refuses to listen to him.
Boyz Crazy: This one isn’t Dipper but I still wanted to mention it because she is so ridiculously selfish throughout the whole episode, to the point where it’s to her and the people she loves’ detriment.
Dreamscapers: Again not Dipper or a sacrifice, but her worst nightmare is apparently losing her cuteness and becoming ugly. I dunno if that’s exactly selfish or anything but God did it make me wrinkle my nose in distaste.
Sock Opera: After promising to help Dipper with the laptop, she almost immediately abandons him for her crush of the week, then proceeds to ignore him for, and inconvenience him with, her puppet show, taking his things without asking and expecting him to be completely cool with all her actions. Bill literally mentions her selfishness to manipulate Dipper and it completely works.
The Love God: Dipper leaves Wendy and her friends in chaos to help fix Mabel’s mess.
Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons: Mabel, her friends, and Stan all make fun of Dipper and Ford and insist they should have full use of the living room.
Dipper and Mable vs the Future: This is one of the big ones that people talk about. Mable finds out that Dipper might want to stay as Ford’s apprentice and becomes incredibly upset because she dreamed of the two of them having fun in high school together. She sees Dipper and immediately makes it about her and her feelings, treating something he’d been dreaming of all summer (being The Author’s apprentice) as some direct attack on her happiness. She proceeds to literally give Bill the ability to start the apocalypse to avoid being separated from Dipper, all without having any sort of meaningful conversation with Dipper or considering his feelings.
Weirdmageddon Part 2: Escape From Reality: Out of all of these, this might be the one that gets to me the most. Mabel, seemingly knowing full well that she’s trapped by Bill, creates an imaginary fantasy land and refuses to leave just to spite Dipper for considering taking the apprenticeship. And despite doing all this, and attempting to convince him to stay with her, she creates an alternate “better” version of Dipper who’s “cool” and supportive and very, very, different from the real Dipper.
And this isn’t even mentioning all the times she just assumed she was completely in the right about something or had the moral high ground. Mabel frequently makes rush decisions because she thinks everything should be her way or how she thinks is right.
And I want to say again, none of these things are unforgivable. Honestly, a lot of the things on the list are pretty standard sibling things, and like she isn’t even always in the wrong. The issue is that I’m naming at least 15 times where Mabel has been selfish or forced someone to give something up for her, and she almost never learns her lesson or is punished by the narrative. There are also only 2 or 3 times I can think of where Mabel sacrificed anything for Dipper, and they were all times he was in actual danger or someone had to talk to her and say she messed up and needed to fix her mistake.
Dipper, on the other hand, sacrifices things for Mabel, faces consequences for his mistakes and his flaws, learns substantial lessons, apologizes, and rarely, if ever, repeats said mistakes. Now, this doesn’t mean that Mabel is awful and Dipper isn’t. I mean, Dipper does some pretty crumby things and has to be told he’s in the wrong or to apologize. And Mabel isn’t a bad person. Like legitimately, that is not what I want anyone to take away from this. She does genuinely love her brother and care about his wellbeing. She’s just a little selfish and unthinking sometimes, like anyone else.
Like I said, my issue is that it goes unpunished, and she repeats the same type of offense wayyy more than any other character. She’ll disappoint Dipper enough that he’d make a deal with Bill and then everyone will still say she’s the best and most caring person ever. That’s just annoying, honestly, or it is to me at least.
This isn’t dunking on her, this is dunking on the writers. And they aren’t unforgivable either, I mean Gravity Falls was a masterful web of foreshadowing, character building, lore, plot work, and incredibly intelligent humor mixed with jokes kids would love too. I don’t blame them for dropping the ball on Mabel, and I don’t hate her or the show or anything because of it. I just want us to acknowledge this flaw of the show, and also have people get it when Mabel gets on my nerves a little bit.

Some more ideas for the ideas for Steven gets Summer Job AU
StevePeridot: Sweatlover404 your Camp Pining Hearts Fanfiction is a complete unrealistic destabilization of everyone's characters development prepare to meet my fist you clod!
Dipper: Aren’t you that girl who aired that prank on all those tv signals a couple years ago?
This would then cultivate in Mable having  McGucket build her a mech and her and Peridot get into a mech battle.
Dipper vs Maniless will instead have Dipper and Steven complete in a man off and Steven does not understand any of it at all because of how he has witnessed gender roles.
Steven tries to use there shared love of music to talk Robbie out of getting into a fight with Dipper. Maybe instead of Rumble McSkirmish Dipper tries to get Jasper to train him to fight.
Wendy is probably a fan of Sadie Killers and the Suspects and is shocked to learn Steven was technically the founder.
Steven: Shep is really talented with music, they have this large set of electronic instruments I’ve never even heard of.
Soos: They wait how many Sheps are there!? Just kidding dude a goth person at the mall taught me all about gender pronoun stuff.
Steven’s birthday is August 15th so that means there would have to be a birthday episode. Uncle Andy uses his plane to fly Greg, Amethyst, Pearl, Garnet and Connie out to Gravity Falls. Steven ends up getting sick with some bizarre virus and everyone has to split up in order to get ingredients for the antidote. Garnet goes with Dipper who is immediately freaked out by her future vision. Mable goes with Amethyst and just end up creating a giant path of destruction. Pearl goes with Soos and is incredibly disgusted by him, maybe there ingredient would have to involve eating something. Connie and Wendy interaction would be amazing because they are so different but become friends because they are both bad asses. Greg and Grunkle Stan would probably bond over the fact they have both been disowned by there families, Stan would probably realize he could have had it a lot worse.
Lars needs backup for a heist in space and to avoid unwanted attention Mable creates Gemsonas for everyone user her bedazzler. Maybe some sort of lesson about cultural appropriation vs being a fan.
I think Steven’s arc would have to be about accepting his trauma may be bad but he still had a lot really fun experiences during his childhood and it’s nice to be on exciting adventures again.  When they are in Mabel’s Prison Bubble it’s the Crystal Gems and they try to convince him to go on adventures with them again.

Ford and safety
After watching several episodes but especially “Diper and Mable vs the Future” I’ve noticed that Ford isn’t all that different from his brother in terms of recklessness.
First of all, if he had just destroyed his journals after realizing Bill’s true intentions and just, you know, dismantled the portal he had built the whole Bill-mess wouldn’t have happened in the first place. Even though he hid two journals they still caused great damage and Gideon even used his to summon Bill. It doesn’t help that the really important warnings can only be seen under a special light (UV light?). Then after coming out of the portal he brought all sort of dangerous things with him, like the die, and kept it just in a normal box, not even locked, or in a safe or anything. When he and Dipper went down into the UFO he said he and McGucket had been there several times but failed to recognize that the UFO was, in fact, still working and worse yet told Dipper he could touch anything he wanted. It’s honestly a miracle the security bots didn’t react earlier. Then he just went ahead instead of showing Dipper how to handle himself or the magnet gun leading to Dipper to shoot up instead of going down. All these things make his speeches to Stan about the safety of others and Dipper and Mable in particular seem rather hypocitical.
I think it was this lack of care for safety, not just his intelligence and ego that made Bill choose him as the one to build the portal.

Status Update: I wish the second season was a bit longer. I consider "Not Whay He Seems" to be like a season finale.
I would had liked some more episodes in between "A Tale of Two St and" and Dipper and "Mable vs the Future."
I think one episode before "Dungeons and more Dungeons" where Ford is secluded in the basement for the entire episode while Dipper and Mable go on their own adventure might work. Going from the Stan twins backstory right into Dipper and Ford adventure felt a bit quick to me. I understand that the writers knew fans would want to know more about Ford as soon as possible so Dungeons episode was most likely the best move.
I dunno I just feel like there should be a couple more episodes before we get into Weirdmageddon arc. I wanted more Soos and definitely more Pacifica. I wanted an episode where Ford and McGucket meet.

So since Steven's birthday is on August 15th and Dipper and Mabel's is on August 31st and Dipper and Mable vs the Future is set one week before their birthday that means that the rest of Arc 7 and all of Arcs 8,9, and 10 take place over a period of time of a little over a week, damn.
Well like I’ve said before I really don’t care about the logistics of time as far as dates go in UF. So really, the events of the last several arcs are gonna take place over the course of weeks rather than days, with the actual date that Steven’s birthday falls on not actually ever being mentioned, mostly just for the sake of avoiding that problem.

God, I’m just like, remembering the palpable dread we all felt waiting for Dipper and Mabel vs The Future. And then the heartbroken devastation we felt in the wake of Dipper and Mable vs The Future. That episode really took us on one hell of an emotional ride.

Why did Ford tell Bill about the way out of the Bubble? (Theory)
OK, so it’s been over a year now since the season finale of Gravity Falls, so I thought I would address this.
Bill Cipher was caught in the bubble that surrounds Gravity Falls, and no amount of magical or cosmic power was going to get him out. He goes to bride Stanford into revealing the way out, if he could. Stanford’s reaction?
He tells Bill nonchalantly that a simple equation will let him out, but “I’ll never tell you, Bill!”
Why? Why did he tell Bill this? Right after he says this, Bill Cipher goes into torture mode. Stanford must have guessed that simply saying “I’ll never tell you” wouldn’t do anything in the long run, right?
Actually, I think he knew exactly what he was doing.
Bill knew that something was blocking his way out of the Falls. But he didn’t know what was. Ford framed his statement is such a way as to make it seem like the Falls itself was preventing him from leaving, calling it “Gravity Falls’ natural law of weirdness magnetism”.
Now, as a physics major, I call BS on that. There is no such thing as a natural law that effects only one small area. Natural laws are the basis upon which things happen, not isolated forces that effect one place and only one place. And I think Ford knew that. And Bill didn’t.
Bill is, as best I can tell, a form of sorcerer. He views the world through the lens of the magic he used to “liberate” his world, and even then his perception is limited by the fact that his mind may not have been designed to handle three dimensions, resulting in further madness. All his knowledge of three dimensional science comes from Stanford. He may have provided small insights here and there in the creation of the portal, but these insights were the result of direct observation of his own universe falling apart. He understood very little of the intricate details of science.
I think Ford took advantage of this to scew Bill’s perception of what was actually going on. Bill would have known if Ford was directly lying to him, having shared his head for awhile, so Ford chose to feed misleading information instead. Bill became convinced that the ONLY way out of the bubble was Ford’s equation. Ford may not have been thinking clearly enough to consider what Bill might do to him if kept this information, or he might have realized the risk but thought (perhaps correctly) that Bill wouldn’t be able to get it out of him through torture. He did not plan on the attempted rescue, however.
But this implies that there was another way to get out of the bubble. What was it?
Remember the spacecraft in Dipper and Mable vs the Future?
Inside is an inscription in black made by an alien hand, the first line of which reads “PROBABILITY DRIVE ENGINE”
This engine. THIS ENGINE. Is WAY more important than it sounds.
What this sort of thing is supposed to do is actually manipulate the wave functions of the entire ship, resulting in the ship quantum tunneling to another location. Such a device would render reality in the area fairly pliable, accounting for the relative ease with which Bill was able to project his essence, and may account for a number of other strange effects as well.
More importantly, though, this effect was meant to be confined to the ship when in use, and the engine itself when not. And we know that this effect only extends over the falls itself, given Ford’s weirdness readings later in the episode.
You know what else has a range that extends just over the falls?
The bubble. I believe that that bubble is a kind of shield which prevents anomalous events from leaving through a process that occurs with Gravitons and quantum foam in string theory. Bill couldn’t leave because the shield was smoothing out his reality every time he tried. In a certain sense, you could consider Bill a being made of quantum foam, chaos incarnate. He even produces short-lived bubble universe and negates causality in a way similar to how space-time acts on a planck scale.
How could Bill have gotten out?
Deactivate the Bubble.
I think Stanford’s “equation” was actually the input required to overload the probability drive. Bill could have easily gotten around this, however, by smashing the ship into oblivion. Because of Ford’s intervention and misdirection, it never occurred to him to try to find the center of the bubble and destroy it, so he never did.

You know how in Dipper and Mable vs the Future Ford said "I saw Mable become pen pals with the mailman in sixty seconds". You could make a joke about Mable pen pal being Jamie
Oh yeah well then I guess that would be how if that were to happen, I’m not sure yet so we’ll have to see.
