BookRecommendation for #BirdDay:
Bird: Exploring the Winged World (2021)
“This visually stunning survey of birds, chronicling their scientific and popular appeal throughout the ages and around the world, showcases the remarkable diversity of species in the avian kingdom, from tiny hummingbirds to ostriches taller than humans, and icebound penguins to tropical macaws.
With its content curated alongside an international panel of ornithologists, art historians, wildlife photographers, conservationists, and curators, this extraordinary book includes illustrations and artwork of all styles, with works by a diverse and often surprising range of creators from many different backgrounds, including: John James Audubon; Robert Clark; Mark Dion; Charley Harper; Barbara Kruger; Edward Lear; Ustad Mansur; John Ruskin; Joel Sartore; Sarah Stone; and Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe.
Arranged in thoughtfully paired juxtapositions, it reveals how artists, illustrators, ornithologists, and photographers - from ancient Egypt to the present - have captured the spirit, likeness, character, and symbolism of birds. Including Tweety pie paired with the Twitter bird; birds as 300-foot desert carvings or 2-inch-tall ivory statuettes; bird bones, bird bank notes, sculptures and birds shaped as beds, the book's three hundred visually stunning entries span four thousand years of fine art, photography, ornithological drawings, popular culture, and scientific discovery from all corners of the globe to create the ultimate celebration of the winged world.”

#23. Jace Kaganoff
Your father always taught you that forgiveness is earned, but even when saying all the right things, you find this person hard to forgive. You flee from it to clear your head, but like an assassin’s mark on your back, it follows. For the sake of tradition and the sake of your family you know you ought to let it go. But you can’t, you won’t, and even if it’s selfish you hope that a some point they’ll just let you go.
“jace” means healer. “kaganoff” means descended from the oracle. jace’s family has carried this name for generations, due to the fact that they are some of the first people of kiskkaddon who were able to communicate with the god RANKIMA. jace doesn’t have the ability to communicate with the goddess himself, but as “hearless” ones (as his father called it) he made it his life’s mission to strive for justice and protect oracles and their people from the expanding deserts of kiskkaddon.
41, cis male (he/him), romance: technically. he’s not super into it but he knows how to play the part. sex: technically. same hat. kisk traditions make him kinda blah about it and after miki’s infidelity he hasn’t really been in a horny mood. preference: none (he’s not really into sex or romance, but he feels like its a duty he has to fulfill. if left to his own devices, he would probably find someone else to be with/explore, or he would just not be with anyone).
jace is an imposing figure, standing just taller than dion at 6’5”. he has a broad, muscular build, and his dark hair is in short locs with shaved sides, tapering off in the back, usually with designs shaved into the back and sides of his head. his eyes are a deep red color, almost crimson. his hands are extremely calloused and he has varying scars mostly scattered across his shoulders, which he leaves bare of armor.
a MBW, jace was trained by his father directly to protect the oracle and the people as they traversed the harsh lands of the kiskkaddon desert. his weapon before adicating to lathsbury always rotated due to whatever was on hand; and as such he is trained to use a variety of different weapons: war hammers, swords (of varying sizes, one and two handed), and javelins are the most common he’s used. currently, in guilds he dual wields two cutlasses. being older than many of his peers gives jace a distinctive battle advantage, especially as there are more free roaming monsters on kiskkaddon (and diisai by proxy) as they were not absorbed into the labyrinth like the many that roamed on the mainland. granted, they are much weaker than mainland monsters as they are further removed from chaos, but still they are foes jace has been facing since he was a young boy. he can wipe the floor with nearly anyone, magic or not, though magic users do surprise him especially because (aside from bards) he isn’t familiar with them. the one that surprises him the most is the hexer (or illuminator) erebos, as the man (boy, really) looks physically weaker than him… yet somehow jace still cannot best him in spars.
jace has always been a serious person. its the running joke (at least among those who know him and his family well) that he’s becoming the walking, talking version of his father. which, makes sense, that in many senses, jace tries to emulate his father and his father’s legacy—not because he was forced, but because he greatly admires him for his tenacity and the willingness he had to give everything for their people; even his life. many of his father’s lessons jace takes to heart including the message “forgiveness is earned” because it is. to say sorry means nothing. to make up for your actions is where the true value is… and this is where he’s currently at with his wife, miki. despite the fact that, to his knowledge, he killed his best friend over this, jace still cannot shake the bitterness and the anger he feels towards her for betraying his trust, and doesn’t truly trust her when she says she’s sorry, because it doesn’t feel like she’s making an effort to make anything change.
despite this, jace is so old man coded LMAO. he’s kind of stubborn and stuck in his ways, definitely views those (especially those in their 20s) as kids and worries over them as such, and shows his care through actions instead of words. coming to lathsbury was supposed to help him heal and face his demons and he’s still working on it, for better or worse.
3 fun facts about them: jace talks in his sleep, usually about what food he wants to eat for breakfast the next morning. he’s very much a “foodie” in general, and part of the joy he’s gotten traveling away from home to the mainland is all of the different foods that he’s never had before. he also has one silver streak of hair, but since it’s at the back of his head, he doesn’t know that its there.

The richest 1% are at war with the rest of the world
“There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.” Warren Buffett – Good Reads: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/123058-there-s-class-warfare-all-right-but-it-s-my-class-the
“Terrorism is the war of the poor. War is the terrorism of the rich.” Ustinov Peter: https://www.grainesdepaix.org/fr/ressources/sinspirer/aphorismes/le-terrorisme-est-la-guerre-des-pauvres-la-guerre-est-le-terrorisme-des-riches
What does this war involve?
In France, as elsewhere, the role of national education is to educate future citizens and reduce inequalities in opportunities for success. There is no will on the part of governments in the pocketbooks of the ultra-rich to fulfill these missions. The school system lacks resources and serves as a day-care center for parents who work far too much.
Working full time doesn’t give you the time to learn enough to be an active citizen. The ultra-rich want to tire the population out of thinking. Bullshit jobs are multiplying. There’s absolutely no need to work so much and so far from home. Harassment at work is on the rise. Burn-out and depression are on the increase. This work makes people sick, and the cost of ill-health linked to stress, industrial food and sedentarism is borne by taxpayers. It requires nurseries and schools, as well as after-school care, which are also paid for by the taxpayer. The environmental cost is also significant: traffic jams at office hours, larger roads to manage them, overcrowded trains, distances travelled by car to get to work, and so on.
The TV licence fee is paid by all citizens. However, this television does not enable them to acquire the knowledge they need to vote in full knowledge of the facts. The public would be stupid, and it would be to boost ratings that they would be offered only entertaining content. When it comes to public television, it should show experts who explain their research.
Newspapers have been bought up by billionaires, who control the press and thus the public’s access to information. The press is no longer a counter-power.
The social gains achieved by the Fourth Republic with the Front Populaire are called into question.
Social security is under increasing pressure. Fewer and fewer drugs are reimbursed. Country hospitals have closed. There are medical deserts.
Union staff leaders benefit from this state of war, as they sell protection to frightened individuals. Strikers have to go back to work having obtained only crumbs. “Unionists are so used to doing nothing that when they go on strike, they call it a day of action,” said Coluche. He also said: “Getting 18 million unregistered guys to go on strike isn’t a problem, but getting them to go back to work when their demands haven’t been met, that’s harder for sure.”
Unemployment is significantly shorter. “On TV they say every day: ‘There are three million people who want work’. It’s not true: money would be enough for them,” said Coluche.
Retirement benefits have been reduced.
The cost of housing continues to rise, making it impossible for the poorest people to live close to where they work. The majority of owners are the ultra-rich and elected officials who raise prices to make even more money.
Restos du coeur has never had so many people to feed. Precariousness is spreading everywhere. On a global scale, the majority of the population is hungry. When people ask for better conditions, they are met with weapons of war. It is the states in the hands of the richest that are violent and refuse democracy.
In the United States, many children only eat at lunchtime, thanks to school meals. It’s not right that in such a rich country, children go hungry.
School Lunch: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO): https://youtu.be/-YypArYDcjA?si=SnbKExrX0kXJ8c_o
Cyril Dion’s experiment with 150 people chosen at random to meet with experts and decide what needs to be done for the environment, shows that all citizens are capable of understanding the issues at stake if they are given the means to do so. They’ve even done a better job than the professional elected representatives, graduates of the grandes écoles and servants of the ultra-rich. The latter were quick to dismiss most of the measures proposed by the 150.

The richest are responsible for the world’s biggest ecocides: they destroy forests such as the Amazon rainforest, pollute mines, destroy the seabed, impose conditions on farmers such that they destroy the land, which is in danger of becoming sterile through the use of chemicals, and mistreat animals. What’s more, chemicals such as pesticides are causing the extinction of countless species of animals.
They benefit from huge tax breaks to pay little tax. Their companies receive public money (for example, during the pandemic). Public money is spent to prop up the banks when they have taken unreasonable risks and caused losses for these rich people.

They pretend to play the game of sharing power with the people as long as it doesn’t challenge their supremacy. But if there’s a risk of real change, they don’t hesitate to use force. Take, for example, the bloody repression of the May Day demonstrations in Chicago.
They pretend to play the game of sharing power with the people as long as it doesn’t challenge their supremacy. But when there’s a risk of real change, they don’t hesitate to use force. Take, for example, the bloody repression of May Day demonstrations in Chicago in 1886.

Another example is the Paris Commune of 1870-71.
Paris Commune – Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Commune
Or the repression led by Mrs. Tatcher when British miners wanted to save their jobs. The same goes for Latin America, where demonstrations were harshly repressed.
During the yellow vest protests in France, demonstrators were attacked by the police, who let the troublemakers operate to justify police violence.
Some of the ultra-rich, like Putin, wage war and it’s the citizens who serve as soldiers, many of whom die in combat.

The class war in American politics is over. The rich won.- Vox: https://www.vox.com/2014/9/3/6098677/the-class-war-in-american-politics-is-over-the-rich-won
In ancient times, just before Athenian democracy, the people lived in terrible poverty and there were demonstrations. Faced with the demands of the poor, the oligarchs swore an oath to do as much harm as possible to the poor. When Solon became the first mayor of Athens, the rich preferred to throw their fortunes into the sea rather than pay taxes. A century later, when Sparta threatened Athens, the descendants of the oligarchs betrayed the city and massacred the Athenians. Sparta, along with Alexander, rewarded their treachery by installing them as tyrants. This was the tyranny of the thirty.
Thirty Tyrants – Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Tyrants
The civil war in Rome pitted the oligarchs against the plebs because the oligarchs refused to allow the law to limit their wealth, as proposed by the Gracchus brothers. Julius Caesar defended the people. After his triumph over Pompeii, the oligarchs went so far as to assassinate him. The assassins defended themselves by accusing Caesar of wanting to be emperor. There was nothing in his lifetime to corroborate this claim. Caesar had said he didn’t want to be emperor, but tribune of the plebs, i.e. the defender of the people against the rich, a position that existed in the Senate. He did say that he wanted to apply the Gracchus laws.
Military campaigns of Julius Caesar – Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_campaigns_of_Julius_Caesar
If you live as if there’s no war, you’re putting yourself in danger.
Deux amis (Gérard Jourd’hui) – Chez Maupassant S01E04: https://youtu.be/jjW9Nh_k-us?si=A8Eydj3LFVMlyyiu
Indeed, this war kills: pollution-related illnesses, illnesses linked to stress and exhaustion, illnesses linked to malnutrition (e.g. hunger or diabetes), the fact of not being properly cared for, police attacks on the population (as during yellow vest demonstrations, for example), wars of power, climatic catastrophes (such as fires, floods, storms or tornadoes). And like any war, it costs taxpayers dearly… not to mention the destruction of nature and the environment.
The police and army should defend the people rather than protect those who have seized power without regard for the will of the people.

Alright since no one even knows what they look like here’s MY Hound Wolf Squad headcanons including images of how they look in the fucking game so y’all can stop being dumbasses now <3
Rolando Elba aka Umber Eyes
I like the hc that he was one of the original Elite Eleven that first founded the BSAA. He’s old enough, he’s Chris’ right-hand man in 8 and they seem to go back. Also I never see people bring up the Elite Eleven or even speculate as to who those people were, so I’m claiming Rolando as one of them
I like dad characters so he’s a dad to me
I also like him and Emily being friends. They have one dialogue interaction in 8 that I like. Also just a big fan of friendships between older mentor figures and newbies
He’s a sniper (duh) since that’s his main weapon in the game
John Perlman aka Lobo
He’s the one with the line about “been a while since we fought together, captain. When was it last? The desert?” so he was on the Mojave mission during Heavenly Island good for him
Again that line also suggests a history with Chris
He’s the large weapons expert (that’s just canon lol he operates that explosive thing in Chris’ part of the game)
I like to believe that he didn’t get that scar from field work, it was something in his personal life like a motorcycle accident
Charlie Graham aka Night Howl
If you’ve been following me for a while you know my extensive headcanons about Charlie for my Graham Siblings AU, but since that’s so fucking long I’m gonna say other hcs
He’s both the comms expert on the team and a scientist (he was with Chris at the outpost in Moreau’s lair and he says all of the scientific observations of the mutamycete during Chris’ campaign)
He’s former Navy
He’s friends with Dion and Emily since they’re the three on the younger side in this team. Also Charlie and Emily have cute winky face stickers on their battery packs in game and that just makes me smile
Dion Wilson aka Canine
Side note I don’t know who on the wiki switched up Canine and Night Howl’s code names but you are my enemy. It’s IN THE GAME who is who. Anyway
Dion is the youngest on the team but not by much, he’s also more fresh-faces and fun but he’s definitely not a rookie
He’s former Air Force since he’s the pilot of the Osprey at the very end
He’s also really good at stealth, considering he killed the B.O.W. soldier at the end without blowing up its head or chest and thus I’m assuming it was a stealth maneuver that took it out
Besties with Charlie, again based on in-game dialogue
Emily Berkhoff aka Tundra
She’s not a designated recon agent, but she is the best at recon so she’s the one who does it
Lesbian. Obviously. If you know @jewishevelinebaker ‘s “Shame Though What They Made” series that I love where Emily and Zoe are a couple you should know that I like that hc
I don’t like the “former DEA” thing on her concept sheet and like there’s nothing in game to suggest that so I believe it isn’t canon
My hc for her past is that she’s former U.S. Army Special Forces
Like I said, good friends with Rolando in a kind of mentor/mentee sort of relationship

Haseo and Clive Rosfield, somewhat of a character analysis.
Playing Dot Hack GU again this month and then getting my hands on Final Fantasy 16, I can really see the parallels with Haseo and Clive as protagonists.
-
They both seek revenge on a person they think killed / put into a coma someone they are close to on a personal level ( Shino and Joshua ).
Both are very trusting and somewhat naïve before being backstabbed by those they had trusted. ( the players helping the newbie Haseo aka PKing him and Anabella's whole thing with Clive and his family ).
Are saved by a guy with powers, joins their cause and is also important to the plot. ( Ovan aka Corbenik ( Yata, Kuhn and Pi can also fit here although they more likely force their hand at Haseo than anything else ) and Cidolfus aka Ramuh ).
Both are part of the special units in game and participate in giant monster-like battles in certain parts. ( Epitaph User Skeith and Dominat of Fire Ifrit ).
Have to face their past and accept the truth ( Haseo's whole inner conversation with Skeith and Clive's inner battle with the shadow Ifrit ) and become into their own.
Hell bent on seeking revenge and doesn't care what it takes to get that job done, willing to do anything, even sometimes at the expense of others. Grows out of it during the events of the game and starts to cherish those who they have met throughout the story and become better people because of it.
Both had killed or in Haseo's case PPK'd many people to find leads or survived to get to their goal but also had saved a lot by taking out those who seek to harm innocent people. Are very morally gray in terms of typical protagonists.
Have facial tattoos ( while Haseo's is purely cosmetic this isn't the case for Clive but they both have this for a unique design) and can ride bikes / chocobos in the open fields, deserts, marshlands, etc.
Get physically / emotionally injured by other in games antagonists but somehow are allowed to live. Actually loses some fights with big loss outcomes but then picks themselves up and finally wins over the other.
Has a character that wants them to kill the other for a certain purpose and talks with grandiose or nonsensical rhetoric. ( Ovan and Barnabas Thamir ).
Both main romantic ships has them being involved with another powerful character important to the story ( Haseo with Atoli / Innis ( who he can marry in game ) and Clive with Jill / Shiva ( that have a certain intimate moment on a beach hehehe) ).
Have connections to flowers and what they symbolize to people most precious to them. ( Haseo with Honeysuckles and Clive with Cosmos / Daisies ).
Their outfits and looks change throughout the game and are quite 'edgy' in appearance. ( although Haseo goes through it because his job class allows this to happen ). They both have a black and red color scheme.
Saves the world due to an outwards threat and deals with anomalies destroying the structures and peace of the realm ( Haseo with Cubia / Aida / Cernunnos and Clive with the mothercrystals and Ultima ). Also has gods / goddesses and politics ( even though Haseo's politics aren't that important to the overall story ).
Has antagonists that eventually join their side ( Haseo with Endrance and Clive with Dion ) and loses party members ( Haseo with Alkaid and Clive with Cidolfus ) vowing revenge on who was responsible for it.
Both get new hub-worlds ( Haseo does this four times while Clive only does this once ) with upgraded abilities and places to explore and have animal mascots ( Haseo with Death Grunty and Clive with Torgal ).
Have to look into themselves to summon their powers / and or give themselves a pep talk to draw out their potential to help defeat whoever they are facing. ( Haseo saying 'I'm right here Skeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiittttthhh! and Clive saying / paraphrasing 'Come on. I need it again. To summon Ifrit' ).
Gameplay is somewhat similar too. With the jokes about Square ripping off Bandai Namco, which is also the maker of Dot Hack as a whole, I can see the comparison clear as day.
-
In all, I think I like Clive as a protagonist is that he shares a lot in common with Haseo. Both their character growth is great. While Haseo takes more time to melt than Clive, they really are amazing protagonists that have more of a moral gray background than others in the RPG genre.
If someone has more examples, feel free to contact me to edit this post. Okay to reblog from me, just be kind about it. Oh if you haven't yet, I suggest playing Dot Hack GU, you won't regret it. Thank you for reading. <3

Today we launch the tiniest specimen of the Ssizur desert: the Du-Meesh! This creature is smaller than a human but as its look may show, it's as adorable as dangerous!
The first idea came with a mouse-like creature that had a venom-spitting tail. Because we thought it would feel right at home, turning the tail into another "different" animal would make the Du-Meesh pretty striking, so we designed its appendage as a snake.
We also thought that using its tail as an umbrella would be pretty useful (and cute!) as a way to protect itself against the fierce sunlight. For the variant poses, we had to choose between a spit attack version, a standing version, and a quadruped version, but maybe we make a "Chillin' under the Sun" sometime in the future.
As with our other creatures for this set, we include the different poses (supported and un-supported), a custom base, and a bunch of digital goodies like a token, a bestiary monster sheet, and a page from the field sketches of Dion Wandurr himself! Oh, and the texts are both in English and Spanish. We hope you enjoyed this fun little creature! If you want to support GARGANTUA and treat yourself to some cool minis, please visit our links: Ko-fi / Cults 3D
