Rant incoming!
Okay, so I apologize for my language in the following post, and I disclaim that I have NOT seen the entire show, but only a compilation on YouTube and read the summarizes on Fandom.com
So, be warned, because this is going to be ugly!
I fucking LOVE the book series Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
I read them in English and in German, I have the audiobooks in both languages and the comics to it. I recently read the best FanFiction I have ever read about my favorit ship Rose/Dimitri (Romitri) called "The Ties that Bind Us" by @hiccuppedstudio , and it is one of the very, very few books, shows or movies where I don't have the burning need to write a fix-it, because the books are perfect in my eyes.
I liked the movie from 2014 well enough, even though it was a bit faster than the books. I can understand that and I fully accept that.
What i can't and won't understand and accept is that bullshit motherfucking series from 2022 which I just masochistically (otherwise i have no explanation why I sat through those 7min) skimmed on YouTube.
And don't get me wrong, it is not because they decided to cast people that don't look like the characters from the book. I couldn't care less if I can vibe with them and the story.
BUT, and here comes my full-blown inner Rumpelstizken out to play, what I HATE is when they not slightly change a plot, but fuck the entire thing up with no shame or decency or honor or respect for the source material what so ever!
you CAN'T put the content of 5 (i don't know if they added the sixth as well) books into 10 episodes, no matter how long they are.
you CAN'T try to establish characters, a forbidden romance, a stalker and kidnapper, a very traumatic death of your best friend, the murder of your ship, the 'I have to go and kill the man I love', the restoration of that man and the murdering of the leader of that society within 10 fucking episodes, just to end it with a: \(o.o)/ meh
you CAN'T just fuck something out of existence that is as vital as Dimitri's restoration and redemption to the entire plot of the fifth and sixth book because of… reasons.
you CAN'T just kick out a turn of events (Dimitri turning Strigoi and Rose going to Siberia to kill him, and everything that it entails) when it is THAT VITAL to not only three books, but also to the character development of ALL THE MAIN CHARACTERS!
I fuck you not, I have another ten reasons on what that shitshow of a show fucked up, but I fear that if I go on, I'll bit into my screen, and I am not even exaggerating!
Now, seriously, who the FUCK decided to do that!? The books are awesome – like I said – and I can only recommend them to each and every one who likes BAMF main character, and doesn't automatically think that vampire means sparkling disco ball!
BUT! The show was not made for the 'normal' consumers; it was made for the fans, because the books are relatively old (2007 was the first volume released) and the producers/directors/screenwriters dared to try and sell us shit on a paper plate and then asked us to clap

Scarlet Blaze Ch 11
Sorry this is taking forever, but here's ch 11.
MAIN STORY
Oh, shit, do we have to fight Gilbert next? AND ANNETTE? This suuukkkkks. It especially sucks since you know they didn't have a choice but to risk their lives just defending themselves.
Annette is so precious. Fuck. I don't want to fight her.
Gilbert being a good daddy though 😭😭😭😭
At least CF was entertaining. SB is a giant snoozefest where I have to kill all my favorites.
Man, they all sound like psychopaths. They're all super excited to go kill people who are just defending themselves. Even Dorothea's only worried about marriage.
MAP/SIDE STUFF
Shez just said that everyone who gets killed in the war "is standing in our way." Imagine comparing self-defense to "getting in our way." Yikes for that characterization compared to how concerned GW!Shez is about Claude's aggressive decisions.
Lamo, Mercedes is like wtf am I doing here fighting the Kingdom and Annie?
Aww, Marianne (and Dorothea) are like the only two who realize they're fighting other people and not just being all murder happy like the rest.
Dimitri just got put on par with Holst and Caspars dad by Balthis, kind of, unofficially best Kingdom warrior?
We're addressing the Ferdinand and Hubert subplot again. Which is good. It's by far the most interesting part of SB. Though, it's just a repeat of what we've seen from it before.
Ok, they're adding some different stuff which is interesting. Bringing up that even if Fredie's dad tried to retire and stay out of Edelgard's way, that he would still have to die because of what he symbolizes. Hubert and Ferdinand disagree on whether people like Mr. Aegir can get a second chance (as in, can you when you've become a symbol).
This is especially interesting to me in regards to what happens to Rhea, Dimitri, and Claude if they surrender to Edelgard and become her puppets. Basically, Hubert is saying that, no matter what, they'd have to die because anyone who would rebel would use (fill in here) as a symbol of their resistance. Claude may be the sole exception here because he can scoot off to Almyra, but it's very obvious that Rhea and Dimitri (and their staunch allies) are fighting for their lives, because even if we're generous and say Edelgard would spare them and give them life worth living (i.e. not locked up), Hubert would most certainly have them assassinated.
Which also brings up another point. People always talk about how it's wrong/bad for Dimitri to try and spare Edelgard at the end of AM because what kind of life would she live? But always praise Edelgard for trying to spare Rhea towards the end of CF but no one - not a single soul - asks what kind of life would Rhea live? I gotta make my own post about that.
SB is really gonna be - kill yo dad, the route. Ironic since I played this the day after Father's Day.
I have to fight Sylvain 😭
SHEZ & MANUELA A SUPPORT
Manuela is flirting with Shez lol. He said he liked her voice and she pushed him with like "is that all" until he talked about her looks lamo
Aww, Shez actually likes her hungover side. Saying he likes warrior her, singer her, healer her, and drunk her. That's kinda cute, actually
Shez said that he can't keep his eyes off her. Laying it on a bit thick. And said she's more attractive now than she was younger haha.
Yeah, Shez, I have no idea how she was supposed to see that in any other way lol.
HUBERT & LYSITHEA B SUPPORT
Hubert finds Lysithea studying at night and teases her about ghosts. She runs away.
The Imperial Army is a bunch of children who don't want to eat their veggies. This is 100% cannon. Hubert orders guards to sneak them into soups for the soldiers actually get their veggies. I cannot. (though, imagine the privilege, Faerghus could never)
Lysithea freaks out because she ate veggies.
Veggies are legitimately delicious though. I don't know what the Imperial Army's problem is.
EDELGARD & MONICA A SUPPORT
Guys, I'm so excited. A Monica support. I wonder what she'll talk about.
Monica counts how many times Edelgard worried about her and invited her to tea. I just . . . no.
This support was pure cringe.
I love how "Kingdom bad" because they're willing to die to defend their homes, family, friends, and everything and anything else they've loved from invaders, but Monica is to be admired because she's oh so loyal to Edelgard that even in when Edelgard leaves her for dead, it's a happy moment for Monica because it helps Edelgard's cause. Like . . . double standard much?
PETRA & CONSTANCE C SUPPORT
Constance is something else. She confronts Petra because Petra's dad invaded and it led to the demise of Constance's everything.
I enjoy supports that address conflict, but girl, that was not Petra's fault. Don't take it out on her.
Oh, good, she's not. She recognizes that Petra's people suffered, and that neither of them were involved, so there's no bad blood.
Then she hahahas and leaves. Lamo, this made me love Constance.
Petra doesn't get a chance to say she agrees and seeks out Constance, but finds her in the sunlight, and needlessly to say, is very confused.
MAIN BATTLE
Hubert and Edelgard just said submit or die.
Wow, Linhardt is like I wish the nobles would think about all the people who they're forcing to fight. The lack of self-awareness is astounding.
Ferdinand can join the "lack of self-awareness club" for acting like it's the Kingdom causing the violence.
Baron Dominic opened the gate, risking his defenses to rescue soldiers. Hubert judged him. But we're supposedly the good guys. I swear the writing goes out of it's way to make the Kingdom look good.
Fuck. I have to fight Gustave :( He dead :( Poor Annette.
FUCK. Now I have to fight Annette.
Fuck this route. Ingrid, Rodrigue, Gustave, and now Annette - all dead.
Even Baron Dominic's death is making me sad. None of the Empire generals get this kind of humanization when they die lol.
Edelgard and Hubert sound insane. Edelgard's acting like their deaths were inevitable because of their lineage (when they would've been just fine if not for her actions), and Hubert's like he's happy to die so it doesn't matter. What a bunch of looney tunes.
Edelgard just said whoever wins gets to decide what's right. I mean, victors do write the history but yikes at the implications.
So deep - "we're up against the world itself." Sounds like a teenage edge-lord wrote this lamo.
We got crusher. Joy. Did they pry it out of Annette's dead hands?
Oh, joy, more backtracking. Revolts in the Empire. I thought we were out of the backtracking era and into kill every Blue Lion era.

I’m gonna put on my nerd glasses for a second to talk about something I find weird with a particular user making the rounds. A while ago, I answered an ask proposing the possibility that Edelgard wasn’t meant to be a villain in 3H by pointing to the myriad of ways the story both directly and indirectly tells the player that she is, even with all of the uwu waifu bait moments dragging down her overall quality of character. The user in question, which I’ll be calling Dolphin, responds with this:
Even setting aside the brazen ableism of “this mentally ill person would totally murder their loved ones because they’re crazy” - even though, um, fucking yikes - it’s just so... completely irrelevant to anything that I said or was brought up. I point out things that objectively did happen in 3H - Dolphin responds by bringing up what they think an unrelated character would do in a hypothetical that never even appears in the game. We as the player are not privy to ever actually seeing any character, let alone Dimitri specifically, directly interact with a spouse of any kind on-screen - the most we are given are the end cards that are essentially our last look into the character in question’s life (and, well, look at that Dimitri does not, in fact, do what Dolphin think he’d do - shocking, I know).
But Dolphin is using this nonexistent hypothetical as part of their grounds for their actual argumentation. They think that Dimitri would do this thing in this setting that never happens in the game, therefore that adds onto the (implicit) idea that he is in fact the bad guy. And not only that, it adds onto the idea that describing Edelgard as a villain over Dimitri is wrong, because Dolphin thinks Dimitri would hypothetically beat his wife in a fit of rage or delusion should the opportunity to do so ever come up.
I could have just as easily said “I could see Edelgard as the kind of woman who would throw slurs at POC who slightly annoy her.” Or I could have said “You know, I think Raphael and his family are secretly Nabateans and he uses the front of a simple young man to hide safely amongst humans - he’s not dumb at all, he invented color contacts to hide his green eyes!” Or I could have slammed my feet against my keyboard and posted whatever garbled mess comes as a result. All of these responses would have been as related to the topic as Dolphin throwing their extremely subjective headcanon into the discussion at hand.
So arguing with this sort of person and getting anything of actual note out of the discussion is just not feasibly possible, because at any moment they will pull out their subjective opinion during a talk about the objective events of the game. And not to make a point about why they, personally, do or don’t like a particular aspect of the game, but to prop it as part of their objective assessment (the front liner of their assessment, no less). Even, again, setting aside the ableism, as well as the general hyper-focus on sexuality seemingly being a determinant factor in a character’s status as villain or Not Villain - there is no point in arguing with this person. They do not care to actually talk about the game, its characters, its themes, its writing, or anything like that; being a bit mean here, it seems like they just want to say words into the air hoping to find a Polo to their Marco.
Sorry, Dolphin, that I can’t bring myself to really care about what you’re saying
#anti edelgard#Anti-edelgard#edelgard critical#edelgard discourse#just to be safe#like omega safe lmao#it's like if we were talking about how chlorophyl makes grass green and someone else walked in and said that grass tastes like chicken#like even ignoring the bizarre statement we. weren't talking about that#it shows off how little they actually care to partake in an actual discussion because they'll just fuckin'. ignore what you're talking abou

Imagine: Vasili having a private conversation with Abbey about his messed up life
Be careful it's filled with ANGST.
"Sometimes.. love knows how it'll make you fall for it, and also, give you that everlasting pain that'll remain in your soul as a scar. It can cut you so deeply.. sharply, than a knife. That if you sew to suture the wound.. it'll never seem to remove from the image. It will keep on reminding you.. that you would have never been this miserable and unfortunate.. if you had never met them. Never.. just never.."
"I loved Helen.. I did.. very much." Vasili tried not to break in front of Abbey. "But I was a fool. A scoundrel. That I fell for her and did what was necessary to win her heart. Now you don't say I was brainwashed that's why I couldn't remember anything but the point is.." He looks at Abbey with a hopeless and shattered look. "Why did I let this all happen to me? What was inside of me that truly SAID you need to choose this very path? What made me choose Perseus? How did I get to Adler? Why? Because I did it myself, Abbey.. I.. I chose this. I subconsciously decided to make myself suffer for the wrong I did. I chose the wrong side.. and.. here I am. Look at me." He smiled half-heartedly, with his arms half raised.
"I was naive. Even after being this intelligent? This witty? I.. I can't seem to.. to.." His voice shivered. "Break through this very situation? Only if.. I could have used my brain, I would have never—" Vasili tried not to sob and covered his eyes with his arm, sniffing a bit. "But I deserve it, Abbey. Because I truly deserve it. I was away killing off people without realising I was now stuck with a bunch of manic criminals who wanted to destroy the world. But me? I couldn't even raise my voice.. that it also made me stop using my mind! For what it had been finally used for without my true consciousness!" He clenched his hair and sat down, in a defeated state.
"I'm tired, Abbey.. I'm so tired.." He sobbed as he rubbed his whole face to wipe off the tears. "The KGB thinks I murdered our own General.. I lost Dimitri.. Adler wished if I was dead anyway.. and sure I gave him a lesson back there and showed him my new form.. but.. even after all that.. I still feel.. lost. Like all my roads ahead of me have been blocked. And I see nothing but.. darkness.. and the light faded before I could ever reach myself through it.." He smiles sadly. "Tells a lot.. maybe if.. Adler shot me back at the cliff.. all this suffering would have ended. And I would be at ultimate peace.. a-am I right, Abbey?"
STOP IT KHUSHI. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. STOP IT. YOU BETTER BE PAYING FOR MY THERAPY AFTER THIS CAUSE GIRL IM SOBBING. IM IN YOUR WALLS NOW 😭😭😭 I WILL GET BACK AT YOU FOR THIS! JUST YOU EFFING SEE. I CANT FUCKING STAND THESE TWO
SORRY FOR THE LATE RESPONSE!
Abbey reached out, almost about to put her hand on Vasili’s shoulder, but pulled away before it could make contact. Instead, Abbey took a deep breath. She was at a loss of words, tears welling up in her eyes. After a moment of silence, she swallowed and spoke.
“Don’t say that, Vin—Vasili.” She mentally cursed herself for that mistake.
“I know you’re tired, and you’re angry, and you’re hopeless, and you feel like everyone in the world hates you and is out to get you, but wallowing in your own self loathing… you’re gonna end up wasting your life away. The paths aren’t blocked by some other entity, Vasili, you’re blocking them.”
“Wasting away means they won. That they got rid of you without even trying. Adler and Park, the rest of them responsible for what happened to you, That’s what they want- it’s what our governments do. They lie, manipulate, screw your brain up beyond recognition, then make you blame yourself for cracking under circumstances nobody could withstand.” Abbey’s voice was quiet, but there was a sharp edge to her words. Her anger, though subtle, was still evident behind the words, albeit not towards Vasili.
Noticing that she was tense, her fist were clenched, and was ranting, Abbey stopped to take a breath. Abbey’s demeanor softened as she took a seat next to Vasili, taking in his defeated expression. She gently removed his hands from his face and held onto them as she continued to speak.
“Vasili, I lo- I care about you. It’s hard for you to believe, I know, but I’m not asking you to. You’ve had every opportunity to kill me, you didn’t. You could’ve sent us all to Duga, you didn’t.”
“What I’m saying is, you’re not a bad person. You’ve done unforgivable things in the past, I refuse to put you on a pedestal, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of doing good.”
Abbey sighed, and held onto his hands tighter.
“If you ever feel like you’re alone or don’t have a place to go, you can always stay here. I don’t need a warning, and you don’t need to talk to me if you don’t want. I can sleep on the cot and you can take the air mattress; the cats might jump on you in the night so I’d keep that in mind. Jazzy and Blue expect you to feed them at dawn.” She chuckled, before letting go of Vasili’s hands.
“They love you, the cats. They really do.” Something we have in common.
Abbey fades out of existence. Bro’s hallucinating 😭😭😭

Man, if I had a nickel for everytime a godly/divine group was called colonizers that deserves to die primarily by a niche of people trying to justify the morally questionable/lacking decisions of a fan fave character, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't much, but it's weird it's happened twice right?
That's been playing on a loop in my head ever since all this kicked up. (Especially relevant given the lunatic who's been running around claiming the Nabatean genocide was good and that all white people should die and then pulling Schrödinger's Joke when called out.) Fortunately, Imogen is a genuinely compelling character played by a real human woman rather than a cobbled-together mess written by a group of conservative corporate men who desperately want her to appeal to adolescent boys—but the "I support women's wrongs <3 unless I actually have to deal with their implications in the narrative" fan crowd functions the same for both.
And I know you didn't really ask about my thoughts on Imogen (TLDR: I enjoy her in canon a million times more than in fanon), but I had some:
To be clear, I like Imogen a lot! She's kind-hearted and irritable; caring and withdrawn; moral and cynical; clever and impatient; protective and ruthless. She does everything in her power to keep her friends safe, but she still looks at their murderers and wonders (in front of her friends!) if they have a point. She wants to keep innocents out of harm's way, but she doesn't seem to clock that the people of Gelvaan might be wary of her because she almost killed some of them. She never asked for her powers and is sometimes afraid of herself because of them, but she's also intrigued by what they can do and won't hesitate to use them for what are sometimes, in the scheme of things, rather petty reasons.
All of that is good—not because her unpleasant actions are excusable, but because they say something interesting about her as a person. And in order for unpleasant actions to actually say anything, they have to have actually been unpleasant, rather than handwaved away under mountains of blorbofied excuses.
It's the same with Percy, where in order to engage with him fully as a character I have to actually acknowledge that he's both a deeply flawed and deeply virtuous person who helped resurrect a child he'd never met and knowingly gave a cursed sword to his friend. Or, to bring it back to FE3H for a second, I wrote this meta a few months ago about why I find Claude to be more compelling than Dimitri, and the summary of it is that I actually enjoy the moments where Claude acts like kind of a dick because they're very grounded and it fleshes out his character—but I have to actually acknowledge that Claude was acting like kind of a dick before I can really appreciate that facet of him.
Plenty of criticism aimed at Imogen is just thinly-veiled misogyny, but some of it is also criticism that's been leveled at Percy, Vax, Caleb, and Fjord, so that's clearly not the only reason behind it. A fair bit of the complaints we're hearing (Main Character Syndrome, why is it all about them, [player] is hogging the spotlight, etc) are, at the end of the day, usually more rooted in "well why isn't it about my blorbo/escapism experience!". Ultimately though, the difference between the good- and bad-faith criticism is that every single person I've seen actually engaging with realistic implications of Imogen's flaws absolutely loves her and isn't at all shy about saying so.
I mean, y'know, people can engage with fandom however they want—but if you're only willing to grapple with negative emotions as far as "oh i made myself sad :(", you're going to have a very difficult time when someone else's choices make you a lot more than sad.

Thursday, 15 June 2023
Yesterday, Megan stuffed an unconscious EJ into the not-at-all secret room and past experience told me to brace myself for at least a week of him in there.
But what’s this?! He’s escaped already! And he’s racing upstairs to warn Stefan about Megan’s plans to kill him!
But oh no! It’s too late! Stefan is lying face-down on his bed with a knife in his back!
Oh. Wait. It was allll a dreeeeam! I want to be mad at them for falling back on this old gimmick, but we get at least one of these a month. And way more than that if Nicole is feeling particularly guilty about something.
For a change, though, she isn’t. She is, however, concerned about the whereabouts of EJ, who made an enormous deal about finding the best doctors his considerable fortune could afford to assist Nicole with her pregnancy. “So, like, have you seen him around or anything?” Nicole asks Stefan (whose stab-status is, it turns out, Not Stabbed). Stefan replies with a very sensible “that guy just recently told me to go fuck myself so, as far as I’m concerned, he is the one who can go and do that thing. To himself.”
Megan, meanwhile, reconvenes with Li for another round of Evil Genius and Extremely Vacant Mouth Breather.
The writers even tried this weird thing where Li was the dominant one in the conversation. Experiments like that are why I prefer the well-worn cliches, guys. Megan intends to re-brainwash Harris Michaels to do her dirty work, and Li’s part in all of this is to bring Dr. Rolf to Salem. And you know, I was wondering if we were expected to believe that Li would be smart or capable enough of killing anyone. But “having someone’s phone number” is something he can probably manage!
Speaking of Harris… apparently, he’s reconsidered Kate’s offer (to take a bunch of Kate’s money in exchange for the murder of Megan).
And while I was loosening my vocal chords to shout at the show for jerking us around on this, he clarifies: he won’t kill Megan. But he will make her go away. Presumably to an island or something. Maybe like the one Kristen kidnapped Sara and Abigail to that one time.
Kate is a little skeptical about all of this not-murdering talk, but she comes around eventually.
Back at the DiMera Crib, Kristen is impressed with the write-up that Gwen did of Dimitri. “Great job dialing up the fake charm,” she says. But Dimitri says he’s actually kinda into Gwen and I hope this is true because Gwen deserves to have nice things. Then I noticed that fruit bowl.
Computer. Isolate and enhance.
WHAT THE ACTUAL COMPLETE AND ENTIRE FUCK? DO THE DIMERAS PUT SLICED BANANAS INTO THEIR FRUIT BOWL? HOW DO THEY NOT INSTANTLY TURN BROWN, NOT TO MENTION ATTRACTING THOUSANDS OF FRUIT FLIES?! THIS CANNOT POSSIBLY BE A THING, EVEN FOR EXTREMELY WEALTHY PEOPLE!
Ahem. Sorry.
Then Kristen goes into some detail about her sinister plans, which essentially boil down to getting her daughter back by hiring Sloan Peterson, who by all accounts is a pretty good lawyer. And to win Sloan over, she’ll need some special vintage of champagne (?) for some reason (??), which takes her into the secret passage that also happens to be the DiMera wine cellar…
And oh look, there’s EJ tied to a chair. Well, maybe I was wrong about this taking an entire week!
Megan returns home and runs into Stefan. She makes some extremely unsubtle puns about burning up his proposal and strongly hints that he might not be alive soon. Stefan, being the good-natured fellow that he is, shrugs this off and goes about his business.
Then she sees Dimitri, who casually mentions that Kristen went into the wine passage to get a bottle.
Once he leaves, Megan performs the most delightful comedic scamper (one of Amanda’s favorite types of physical comedy) to the secret entrance. This screencap does not do it justice but also I’m not going to the trouble of making a GIF.
Kristen is in the process of untying EJ…
…but she’s too late. Megan arrives with a gun.
And when we come back to this bit, they’re both tied up now. AND THEY WILL BE FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I know what the fuck I’m talking about here, people!
Gwen, meanwhile, is chatting with Leo about that Dimitri story.
Leo suggests that perhaps Dimitri was dialing up the fake charm to get something out of Gwen (like perhaps good PR). Gwen counters with “but what if he’s actually kinda into me?”
Then Dimitri shows up with flowers. Because Gwen deserves nice things!
Stefan runs into Li in the town square. The two have what should be a tense and bittersweet conversation about Li signing Gabi’s divorce papers and Stefan’s impending marriage to her. But, as with any of Li’s scene partners, Stefan ends up doing all the heavy lifting here. Li is not a good actor, if I haven’t made this abundantly clear already. He’s very pretty. But that is the only item on the “things Li is good at” list.
Okay, I guess he’s also good at having that one guy’s phone number. So, two things.
At the hospital, Nicole tries to reach EJ once again and once again she is unable to. Am I… starting to feel a little sympathy for Nicole right now?!
Then she gets a text from EJ apologizing profusely for not being able to make it to their appointment. Not pictured: the second text that says “P.S. This definitely isn’t Megan using the phone she took off of EJ, who is tied to a chair across from his sister, who is also tied to a chair.”
Then Megan puts EJ’s phone down.
And discovers Harris waiting for her outside the secret room!
And okay, honestly? There are like 10 different ways I can think of for this to go. This was a very good cliffhanger, and it’s not even Friday. But they’d better follow directly up with this tomorrow and not… I don’t know, cut away to an all-Johnny and Li episode or something.

Mutual Desire - Chapter 4
*Warning - Adult Content*
‘Come on, I swear I won't be a pain anymore. Please, do the presentation with me. Come on, you really gonna make me beg, Clarke?’
Damien let out a long sigh.
He really didn't feel like being part of the presentation, today or any day for that matter..
Even at school, oral presentations caused him to cringe and stress.
He now had to reluctantly agree to present a project that wasn't his, to a multimillionaire who he had to lick his conceited ass to obtain approval.
Nick fixed Damien with puppy eyes, while having in the corner of his pathetic mouth a mocking smirk, knowing very well that Damien would eventually crack and grudgingly agree to participate.
‘At what time is it again?’ Damien asked, feeling defeated.
Nick's smirk turns into a complete smile that light up his whole face.
‘It’s at two, babe. I love you so much, you know that, right?’
‘Yeah, yeah,’ Damien said, rolling his eyes.
‘And don't worry, I’ve already done the PowerPoint,’ Nick adds, his smirk, not needed, now gone.
‘Nick, you fuckin’ mutha hubbard.’
‘Wait. Did you say PowerPoint?’
Damien prayed that he had heard that statement wrong or else he was going to commit a murder.
‘Yeah. How else do you properly present a project?’
‘I don't know, Einstein? Use your mouth, maybe.’
Damien realized that what he had just said had a sexual connotation to it, when he noticed Nick's perverted smile.
‘You know what I mean. Use your damn mouth to talk, man.’
‘Yeah but they kinda need seeing what I'm offering right?’
Damien didn't know what to answer to that because for once, Nick was right about that.
He only hoped he wouldn't look like an idiot and that he wouldn't get lost in a PowerPoint that he’ll never get a chance to see until tomorrow's presentation.
A presentation that hadn't even started but that Damien heartily hated already.
But the duty of a friend knocked on his door and he had to answer to it.
‘Okay. Whatever. I better get going now. I need to rest for whatever we're doing tomorrow,’ Damien said with a tired tone voice and Nick smiled widely.
‘And don't forget to put a suit on. With your pretty face, you'll make them jizz in their pants and you won't need to use your mouth.’
Damien glared at him with a ‘I am going to kill you’ look but his little smile made him instantly lose all credibility.
The friends then said their goodbyes with Nick thanking Damien for umpteenth time and the last of the night.
Damien headed home, thinking only about the love of his life and his king size bed.
For the second time in a row this weekend, he arrived tardively home.
Craig was in the living room watching TV and he cast a cold glance at Damien through his sky-blue eyes.
Damien knew well for the reason behind this unwelcoming welcome.
The reason could only be the missed calls and unread text messages that he had received from him.
Among those texts was Sara's, the attractive blonde from the night club.
Dimitri had indeed given Damien's number to her, it wasn't just a joke like he had expected it to be.
Damien was well aware that his friend had done this precisely to make a scene, being very aware of his relationship with Craig.
Notwithstanding that he was fully informed of the reason behind his bad mood, Damien still asked his boyfriend what was wrong.
"Where have you been all day?" Craig asked him coldly.
"I sent you a text, you got it right? I was with Nick."
Hearing Nick's name was enough to put Craig in a bad mood as he never really liked the guy though he would never admit it, nor would he admit feeling a tiny bit of jealousy of how close Damien and Nick were.
And the fact that Nick is a very nice-looking man surely doesn't help matters.
"You spend your whole day with Nicolas now? Just say it if you"re trying to ignore me," Craig said sharply.
Damien sighed as he was in no mood to face a fit of jealousy that he found beyond useless.
He was burned out mentally and physically because of the energy he had to put into Nick's software.
He had just spent the whole day in front of a computer and he had only one desire and that was to find his bed.
"Can we talk about this tomorrow, Craig. I’m so tired right now and I’m not in the mood for an augment," Damien finally says, wanting to leave his living room as soon as possible.
"It was my day off today. We could have spent together but it seems that spending the day with Nicolas was more important to you than me."
Damien lets out a deep sigh because he felt his boyfriend was taking this way out of proportion.
Besides, Damien wasn't even aware that today was Craig's rostered day off.
To be fair to the discussion, Craig’s flexible work schedule has always been unstable.
And even if Damien had known of the unknown fact, he would most likely still have spent the day helping Nick with his software, anyway.
"Craig, it's really not like that, babe. I was helping Nick with something important for his work. Not fucking around at his place doing jack shit," Damien answered.
"Yeah. On my day off," Craig said bitterly, getting up from the sofa and taking a few steps towards Damien.
"Well, I'm sorry if it coincidently was on my day off."
"You're the first to complain, when we don't see each other often enough and that I work too much."
Damien frowned, the perplexed expression on his face expressing his irritation.
"Which is the case isn't it, Craig? You're married to your freaking job. You never say no to your colleagues and are always taking their shifts."
It was now Craig’s turns to frown severely, looking sternly at Damien like his boyfriend had grown a second head.
"Wow. Are you really giving me shit now, for helping people? People that are sick and on their deathbed?"
"I'm not giving you shit. If anything, you're the one that's giving me shit because I helped Nick with something during your day off. Which by the way is something I didn't know about," Damien almost screamed.
When he realized he had elevated his voice, he softened the expressed anger on his face.
As for Craig, he appeared unfazed by his boyfriend’s tone of voice.
"You didn't know it because you didn't try checking. Probably because you don't seem to care about spending time with me."
Damien took a deep breath before opening his mouth.
He knew if he let his anger speak, he would say words that he wouldn't be able to take back.
"I come home, completely burn out, expecting you to be the least stressful part of my da, and you turn out to be the complete opposite," Damien finally says after a few seconds of silence.
"Then maybe you should've stayed at Nick's. I mean he's the reason why you're so tired. He should be the one making up for that," Craig said with a faint bitter smile.
Damien saw where this animated conversation was naturally heading and he wasn't having it tonight.
"I'm really not in the mood to have that kind of conversation right now, Craig," Damien said gently, murmuring.
"Damien, I stayed all day looking at this fucking door thinking you'd come. That you'd remember my day off and spend it with me. Spend the whole day togeather, just you and me."
Damien's face softened completely, staring thoughtfully at the man that had just spoke words that made his heart ache.
He didn't want Craig to feel unwanted or left out.
He loved this man, more than anything.
Damien put an end to the space between him and his boyfriend, until their faces were inches away.
He gently brushed Craig's cheek with his hand.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry okay? I know I should've remembered. I didn't mean to forget. I swear."
Damien's apology was sincere.
He didn't mean to neglect something that significant especially since he had barely spent time with Craig in the past weeks.
Before heading on vacation not that long ago, he was himself quite busy with the exam period, spending hours correcting hundred of papers.
Damien knew full well what it felt like seeing work invading personal life.
"I'm sorry, babe," Damien repeated gently and Craig tenderly took him by the waist and kissed him.
Damien let his boyfriend’s tongue slide in his mouth, kissing the man back.
Craig stopped the kiss and brought his lips to Damien's neck, kissing it multiple times
"Craig."
Craig's hands then unbuttoned Damien's pants and started undoing the zipper.
"Craig, babe, not tonight."
"When was the last time I touched you?" Craig murmured, his mouth still on Damien's neck.
Craig brought his lips back on Damien's mouth kissing him intensely.
"I know, I know. But not tonight, Okay?" Damien said softly, his lips remaining on Craig's mouth.
Craig scrutinised Damien for a moment, in an awkward silence.
He stared intensely at Damien, as if his boyfriend’s face would reveal to him the reason for his sexual reluctance towards him tonight.
"What's wrong," Craig finally said. "You don't want me anymore?"
Damien glared at Craig, frowning, confused and slightly irritated by Craig's pessimistic assumption.
What was that all about?
Damien couldn't comprehend why Craig would think for a second that he didn't want him.
It was the first time Craig had ever said something of this sort.
Sex had always been incredible between the two of them.
Never had Damien felt less desire for Craig nor had he ever not shown it.
Damien didn't understand why Craig wouldn't simply realizes how exhausted he looked and linked the dots.
This was so not his day.
And to think that he thought tomorrow would be considerably worst due to the damn presentation that he didn't want to do.
Now he was beginning to alter his mind regarding to that fact.
"No," Damien asserted categorically, his voice rising a little. "I'm just tired. I just spent the whole day trying to make something out of a software that was only 80% finished. It burned me completely, Craig."
Craig glared suspiciously at Damien, looking unconvinced.
"Babe, listen..."
Craig harshly interrupted Damien, his voice cold as ice.
"I am going home."
Damien was dazed by Craig's excessive reaction.
He felt as if his boyfriend had just punched him in the face.
"Are you serious?" is all Damien could say.
"I think we both need to cool off a little. Let's call it a night."
"No, what I need is a nice hot bath and a massage from my man. That's the only thing that I needed tonight, Craig."
Damien's voice was low and as sharp as his stare.
For the first time since their altercation started, Damien was no longer trying to keep his anger inside.
"Damien, the same way I am respecting your decision tonight, please respect mine for wanting to take some time away from us."
Damien let out a bitter laugh.
"Oh. I see. So this is payback for me not wanting to have sex. Is that it?"
"No. You were right before. We should have never had started this conversation," Craig murmured softly.
"Craig."
"Go to bed, Dam. Get some rest."
Craig kissed him on the forehead and left, leaving an irritated and exhausted Damien alone in the living room and his apartment.
‘What the hell was that?’
He didn't know what to make of the argument he just had.
He couldn't comprehend Craig's reaction.
Since when had being tired become a crime?
Damien tried to replay the whole conversation in his head to find his wrongdoings in the transactions.
He knew that forgetting Craig's day off wasn't right on his part and he had apologized for that.
But that wasn't the primary element to the fight the two men had.
Craig, leaving the way he did, had shocked Damien.
The two lovers did have disputes in the past like every living normal couple but never had Craig walked away from Damien without settling the issue.
Damien reassured himself of the situation by deciding that he would go and patch things up with Craig, if it was the last thing he ever did.
During their three year relationship, Craig had always acted with nothing but love and respect towards Damien.
And Damien himself was more than aware that he had, in his hands, a rare diamond of a boyfriend and relationship and that he shouldn't be careless with either.
He didn't intend to let this arguing or whatever that was, get in the way.
Damien left the living room and went directly to his bathroom, wanting to feel hot water on his skin as soon as possible.
He took a shower and then soaked in the bath for a long time.
He needed to relax and a herbal bath was exactly what his tired body and mind required.
After washing and relaxing, Damien dressed and went to bed.
He wasn’t looking forward to tomorrow..
He was going to face Craig at some point, which would most likely result in another argument.
He was also going to make this presentation, that didn't tempt him in the least.
Damien could tell he was going to have one hell of a blast tomorrow.
He sighed and without realizing it, he fell slept, while today’s stress and duress disappeared.

Claude, although subtle, DOES have character development. It’s most noticeable in his support with Cyril.
Edelgard, if you ask me, is the one whose character arc needs serious improvement.
I should mention… Verdant Wind was my first route, Azure Moon my second, and Crimson Flower my third.
Verdant Wind-Edelgard made a BAD first impression on me by the end.
Azure Moon-Without spoiling anything… I ended up hating her EVEN MORE after this route.
Crimson Flower prompted SOME thought… and I ultimately decided it did NOT redeem her in my eyes. She comes off less as changing for the better and more as being prevented from changing for the worse. That dialogue you mention about her relaxing her views on the church rings hollow considering this is the only route where the church is more or less completely dismantled, vs reforming on other routes. She overall comes off as remaining static, with her character not changing much, if at all. Not to mention that the story seemingly goes out of its way to ensure her misinformed view of Fodlan history is never challenged. (Which feels more sue-ish to me.)
It’s also kinda funny that you claim Claude’s flaws never screw him over when, in fact, they DO screw him over in any route outside his own! And it’s heavily implied he only really succeeds in his route because he has Byleth on his side. Also… pretty sure his cheerful attitude is a cover for his pain.
Although, I suppose without knowing if you’ve played Azure Moon, or your thoughts on it if you have, I can’t form a full opinion on your thoughts. So I’ll just wait and see.
(BTW, the TRUE Mary Sue in the overall Three Houses canon is Three Hopes!Dimitri)
Okay, before I go anywhere with this, i want to say that I appreciate that you took your time to come and explain yourself to me. Very rarely do I get something like this and instead get preaching to the choir or really bad arguments that don't do shit. So thanks for putting in so much time and effort.
1- I can't deny or affirm this since I didn't GET Cyril in my run. And from what I remember- Claude acts a little more trusting and his facade is more truthful by the end. That doesn't help that Claude is still the guy who gets the most hopeful route when he presents less vulnerability.
2- While I do understand this and I am not going to argue for her on any kind of objective basis here- I do have to say that the Church being dismantled doesn't make her relaxing her views come across as less hollow to me. This kind of stuff would go beyond just the Church since the real problem is the tramua she suffered rather than the Church's issues. Also I can't really think of a way to change it so the Church stays since you need Rhea and Seteth/Flaynn around still. And no fucking way can Edelgard pull off the shit she does and they stick around.
2.5- Going to the history bit- I can understand that. She isn't being challenged here properly and I get that. But my issues with Claude weren't fully detailed in my post so sorry about that.
Another of my big issues is just what was revealed in Verdant Wind: The history of Foldlan, the relics and Rhea's past. This is all stuff that should have been at least shared with the other routes, ESPECIALLY Silver Snow since...you know...that's RHEA'S route and the final boss is NEMESIS, her mother's murderer? Of all the places to have the Agarthans and Nemesis show up, Claude, the guy least affected by them, gets to fight them.
As far as I know, you don't get to get revenge on them for killing Edelgard's family and torturing her, shattering Dimitri's mind and ruining Rhea's life. No, CLAUDE gets the fight.
Again, I could be wrong. My personal experience lacks Azure Moon and Silver Snow. And I know this is emotional and stupid as all hell. But...fucking hell, it REALLY feels like the developers realized Claude was the weakest Lord in terms of character and then shoved the backstory into his route to give you a reason to fight with him.
3- Yeah, the problem there is that from what I've seen, other characters drop their masks but Claude never really does. Just once, can he not have a smile on his face.
And- You'll have to explain how Claude keeping up a facade fucks him over in Crimson Flower. Best I could get there is that without Byleth, Claude's fakeness means no one will rally behind him. Which...doesn't get that much focus compared to Dimitri.
4- I haven't and my memories of Verdant Wind and Crimson Flower are a bit distant since I took about a year to revisit this game. This is kind of why I would like for you to explain the bits about Claude like you did against Edelgard.
Just as well- my thoughts here are just that. My thoughts, not an actual analysis of Three Houses and the routes. In that sense, Claude's route is perfectly functional and works well as a contrast to the more dour routes along with fitting his rouge-like aesthetic and the Golden Deer's more cheerful tone. (That...might just be because of Rapheal though). Claude's development isn't obvious and upfront but it doesn't need it. In fact, Claude's upbeat demeanor is something that can't really be filled by anyone else in the route and is necessary for the tone and unique identity of Verdant Wind. So he works perfectly fine here on an objective level.
You really shouldn't take what I said before as any actual judgement on his character. That was me summing up my year old thoughts on a route I personally didn't like.
Oof, kinda ranted a bit in my earlier ask.
If it makes you feel better, Three Hopes has some… opportunities to vent your frustrations with Claude.
No problem, man. I clearly touched a frayed nerve there and I know all too well the feeling. I should have explained myself better if I didn't want to get a rant after all.
And...if that's a reference to killing Claude, I don't really want that. I want Claude to be vulnerable or for me to snark at him for making jokes about poisoning others. Like dude, I know it's a joke but the fucking diplomats won't care. Probably a good thing I paired him with Ingrid- She can act as the resident Claude translator.

"Best friend trumps little sister in almost every situation, we both know that." Dimitri might have not been around for a long time but he still maintained that he was Brittia's best friend. If anyone dared challenge that he would make a huge stink about it. He wouldn't force Bells to say she was wrong simply because he knew the truth. "You're the expert. Or you could be lulling me into a false sense of security by saying that no one smart would ever do that. So many possibilities." It was a good thing murder wasn't his job or hobby, Dimitri just didn't have it in him. "Honest wouldn't be a good look?" He teased. "Okay, so I'm a wide open book and all the pages are highlighted. Doesn't mean I'm not capable of slipping stuff between the lines." It was just that this particular lie wasn't fitting in there well. "Alright, deal. Cookies will be yours." What he was going to do with her list of places non-humans hung out he didn't know but if it helped sell his lie even the tiniest bit he'd take it. Also maybe it would just find him places to socialize a little more. He sat up straight, mimicking her as he too crossed his arms and leveled a look in her direction. "I don't know who you're referring to. I met one of my many cousins, there are a lot of you. Can't keep names straight."
"See, you can say you're right all you want but I'm her little sister. That gives me a fun free pass, thank you very much." Because she would absolutely not be admitting he was right even if he was. "Some people do, but come on, no one smart plans a murder out loud or gives the person they're planning to kill this much of a heads up." It seemed like common sense to her but she knew far too mortals especially who believed everything they saw on TV or in movies. "I don't know, you have that too honest for your own good vibe going on and, no, that's not a judgment of your appearance." A large part of her job was getting a feel for people and it was something Bells was generally pretty good at. "I don't do anything for free so it sounds like we have a deal." It was just business as far as she was concerned, but that also wasn't, strictly speaking, true. She did plenty of things for free, but she just really wanted cookies. Her eyes narrowed at the answer and she crossed her own arm, studying him intently for a moment. "You met Finn, didn't you?"

[Y/n and the Twins are thrown into the Nimbasa PD holding cell after an incident at one of the casinos, where a woman rushed passed them almost knocking Y/n down.
the woman drops her bag in the process and Emmet picks the bag up calling out to the woman, only for a scary amount of alcohol & poker chips to fall out of the bag! Next thing they know, Y/n and the twins are surrounded by security and hauled off to jail for suspicion of robbery.
The police chief believes that they’re innocent, but until they can get the footage from the casino the three are stuck there. While moping about this the chief’s wife comes in and while hugging her husband the wife looks at the guard standing in front of Y/n and the Twins cell.
With bedroom eyes she blows him a kiss and winks, Ingo looks on with a grimace while Y/n and Emmet’s jaws drop at boldness of the wife. Their Guard smirks gives the wife a wink and a nod than stands up a bit straighter when the Chief, whose completely unaware turns to look at the stunned detainees and assures them they’ll be out soon.
Cut to an hour later The roommates are watching their guard and the chief’s wife vigorously making out in full view of their cell.]
Chief’s Wife: *breathless* Aron stop!
Guard *aka Aron*: Melissa your trembling, what’s wrong?
Melissa: Ian’s getting getting suspicious! You know he’s been asking questions at the city hall! We have to get out of here!
*Ingo rolls his eyes, While Emmet and Y/n follow them completely enthralled.*
Aron: … And say goodbye to all that money? I don’t think so.
*grabs Melissa’s hands*
Aron: We just need to bide our time.
Melissa: *slaps Aron hands away* How can I trust you Aron? when you haven’t even told Charlene about us yet?!
Aron: *appalled* have a heart Mellissa, the woman’s still in a coma!
*Melissa scoffs and looks away, Emmet and Y/n jaws drops, Ingo couldn’t care less.*
Y/n: *whispering in disbelief* a coma?
{Ingo lays down on the cell’s bunkbed, Cue Ian walking in, Aron runs to the break room.}
Ian: Hi Honey! *Melissa smiles innocently at him*
Ian: *dropping the nice act* I just got back from the mayor’s office, he thinks he going to kill our little real estate deal...
Melissa: We can’t let him do that, what about those pictures of him and that masseuse?
Ian: There on their way to the news papers right now... We’re gonna destroy the old bastard!
Melissa: Perfect, Now all we have to worry about is Old man Jenkins... Maybe we should send your friend Eric to pay him a visit?
[They giggle to each other as another officer brings a man who hurries into the cell and stands next to Emmet and Y/n excitedly.]
Man: What did I miss? *Ingo shakes his head and pretends to nap*
[later, Y/n, Emmet and their new friend are enticed listening to Ian tell Melissa a tragic story of his past, while Ingo pulls his hat over his face still seemingly ignoring everything.]
Ian:... And as I pulled her from the wreckage, She was so..*chokes up* d-disfigured, that I didn’t even know... It was my own sister! *breaks down crying*
Melissa: Don’t worry, Dimitri is the finest reconstructive surgeon in the Unova!
Emmet: *whisper* Who’s Dimitri?
Man: *whisper* He’s the head doctor at Castalia Medical, him and Melissa had an affair last year then he-
Ian: SHUT UP IN THERE!
*The three jump away from the bars startled, as Ian breaks down crying again.*
[later.]
Melissa:[to Aron and Ian] We can still pull this off!
Aron: You’ll never get passed the DNA test Melissa, Even you’re lies aren’t going to be enough this time!
Ian: But Aron If you didn’t buy the mining rights, Than who did?
Aron: Don’t either of you see what’s going on? the perpetrator who bought the mining rights, is the same person who stole Ms. Margret’s diamond brooch.
[Emmet, Y/n and the man look at each other slack-jawed, Ingo still pretending to nap cocks a brow.]
Aron: They're also the same person who framed Nathan for Andre's murder that horrid night! And that person’s name is...
Prison Guard: Okay Missy you and Your buddies are free to go.
Y/n and Emmet: Awww...
Ingo: *jumps off his bunk outraged* What?!
Prison Guard: Move it.
[Y/n and Emmet comply while dragging a protesting and struggling Ingo behind them.]
Ingo: No! Five more minutes, You can’t just do this to me now! dammit!
Y/n: C’mon Ingo, Don’t make this harder than it has to be.
Emmet: Yeah you’re acting a baby.
Ingo:(ignoring them) It was the mayor right? or Thurston?! No no The janitor...Wait no he’s Ian’s amnesic brother! Ekk!
[Gets yanked out the police station by Emmet, while Ian, Melissa and Aron look at him like he's insane.]

bl stans are sooo much stronger than me bc if someone said something so blatantly and heinously wrong about my faves like this i’d snap. like i’m so serious this would send me straight into my joker arc
(guess you accidentally put it in twice lol rip)
I'm not gonna address any kind of defense for Not Just Kills But Murders OP, we all know that the original tweet was silly. The fastest way to spot a clown is the funny clown nose and wig, but another, more subtle way is to watch if they've ever tried to make NJKBM anything but the accidental joke that it is.
But I kinda wanna actually talk about the Fleche one a bit, because there is such a weird amount of going-to-bat for her and Randolph that's actually kinda baffling.
Fleche and Randolph are bit characters. They barely even are characters. They are devices the writers put into the story so that specifically AM and specifically Dimitri benefit from what they give, which is a solidification of the message that letting vengeance be your one driving force will lead to your end. They are completely irrelevant to all other parts of the game, with Fleche even being completely absent in half of the routes save for one mention of her name as Randolph is literally dying. She loved Randolph so much that she was willing to kill Dimitri to avenge him, but apparently not enough to kill Seteth or Claude for doing literally the same thing.
Except, hey, wait a hingly-dingly minute there, that's not right. Seteth and Claude can only potentially be the ones to kill Randolph in their respective routes, while Dimitri is literally the only one hard-confirmed to not be the one to kill Randolph. Byleth does. They kill him. But Fleche still singles out Dimitri as to one to kill him - not threaten to torture like is the case, but to kill him outright. She calls Dimitri a monster, she hates Dimitri with all she has, she'll never forgive Dimitri, while not giving a single shit about Byleth despite them being the one to kill Randolph. She doesn't give a single shit about the multitude of other people that could have potentially killed Randolph in SS or VW.
Hell, it's not even clear how she knew about Randolph's death, only that she knew that a "monster" (aka Dimitri) was in the ranks of the army in AM, so it looks like she kinda just assumes "the monster" killed her brother without having any actual knowledge on who did what. And even giving the benefit of the doubt in that "well Dimitri MADE Byleth kill Randolph so same difference," that still doesn't explain Fleche's radio silence in the other two routes this can happen in. And still doesn't actually explain why Byleth wouldn't just be lumped in the vengeance quest for, like, still being the one to actually kill her brother outright?
Because we as players aren't meant to really care that much about her - she and Randolph are given no point in the story other than showing off to Dimitri why his quest for revenge is Cringe And Not Based like he thinks it is. They are literally meant to show off why Dimitri's misguided quest for vengeance is dangerous and unfulfilling, which is why when Fleche stabs and kills Rodrigue Dimitri comes to his senses and rejects vengeance as a motivation. That is all Fleche and Randolph do.
(we ignore the "Edelgard did nothing to Dimitri" lie - because at this point they've got to just be outright lying to cope - we know it's not true and we move on from it)
They are given no focus whatsoever on any other route because it is AM where their one, singular purpose is found. Even on CF, the route where you can actually talk to them, at best Randolph is given one cutscene where he dies and makes Edelgard Sadge before she immediately gets over it and moves on never to mention or think about Randolph ever again. And Fleche does literally nothing - she just stands there for the rest of the game as a lump on a log. So seeing multiple people saying "Fleche wasn't allowed vengeance when Dimitri was!" when Dimitri literally isn't allowed vengeance and always dies should he continue to strive for it is just weird. They're, again, trying to go to bat for two bit characters that are solely meant to encapsulate the opposite of what the batters are saying lmao
#ask#anti edelgard#anti-edelgard#edelgard discourse#edelgard critical#just to be safe#and this is all ignoring that Randolph was literally trying to kill Dimitri and his men/friends first. for clout.#and how he attacked a building that housed defenseless people in it five years prior to that. for clout.#so it's literally not that fuckin' boo hoo sad that he dies because he is a giant dick who has no qualms killing/endangering innocent people#for clout.

The scar growing as his face developed is also what I was considering. It also makes sense to me that it would be on his face because if he was a child he wouldn't be able to properly defend himself. I would guess once older that he'd have enough combat experience that actually getting his face versus stabbing him would be less difficult.
For instance, idk if you know FE9/Path of Radiance, but if you do, think of like, the Greil and Black Knight fight. The way their weapons come into contact usually ends up with their faces partially blocked (which would make it more difficult to slash someone's face instead of just going lower and stabbing, which is what BK does). If you were going for an intended fatal blow and aimed for the face, I would think an older person capable of raising a weapon would immediately block their face (especially if they had armor on, like Miklan).
Also, considering the above, the scar is really long compared to the other ones. I can't imagine he'd have gotten a scar that long and wide if he was able to block, and with an axe especially (which is wider than a sword and would block more area even if he was struck). The other scars look more like if he was hit briefly but somewhat deeply - a quicker slice that was probably blocked away from doing worse damage.
A child likely couldn't lift an axe in time to protect their face, and I can't imagine he'd have gotten it in that downward shape if he was blocking his face, especially with how long it is. It really does look like a scar he got at a time he couldn't block his face, and if he got it as a child, then it would definitely stretch like that.
I think you're right about the plague! It would be easy for a child to fall ill, and with an illness that bad, die from it. I'd only thought about it mildly/not all that much so I'm thinking about it a bit more with your comments here, but yeah, usually you'd expect pregnant women and children in this scenario, as well as probably elders, to be given priority over their safety. And you're right, especially as the heir, would Matthias really want to risk it?
I figure maybe something like Dimitri and Gilbert might've happened, where Miklan was attacked and almost killed and was saved before he could be/before he died of his wounds. Rodrigue did specifically say Dimitri was on the verge of death because of his wounds, which means Gilbert barely managed to save him.
If Miklan was there during a raid, and especially if they knew he was the Gautier heir, he would be in a lot of danger. I don't recall that they ever mentioned how far along in pregnancy his mother was either, so like... if she was visibly pregnant then clearly whoever attacked in that raid was not above murdering a pregnant woman, so I can't imagine they'd take any issue killing a child.
Most likely, if we go by the idea that he got the scar during that raid, he was probably about to be killed or almost did die from the wounds and was rescued by someone in time. He would've most likely had a bodyguard, but that person may have died in the raid, got ganged up on and couldn't protect Miklan in time, etc.
Good point! They had to compensate somehow for the raid, but like... why? They didn't ever do that before or after, so obviously it was an extreme circumstance. Yeah, Matthias' wife died, but she was dead already at that point. Giving Leif to them wouldn't make a dead woman feel better about being attacked, and if they knew the heir was attacked but survived, they might have figured well that's a problem because now that grudge might last into the next generation. Considering he'd have a scar from it and one that size, it wouldn't be something he'd just forget. That could totally have played a part in why they gave a commander over, and that commander definitely knew Miklan.
Of course, this isn't to say any other headcanons/theories are wrong or bad, but I'm also just thinking about it more with this post! It was something I'd considered and wanted to hear another Gautier fan's thoughts about. I think it would especially would be more significant for his story in general if it happened not only during a Sreng attack, but if it was something significant in his family's history/Faerghus/ history. Like, it would hold more weight in the family.
Gautier brainworms are stewing and I never thought I'd be cooking worms in my brain but that's what's on the menu today.
I saw your poll post in Mikky's tag (late to the party so I couldn't vote), and I was wondering what your thoughts would be about the idea of Miklan having gotten his scar from the Sreng raid at the time his mother died. Do you think it was from that or just something else in his life?
Ohh I have had many thoughts around this today! (It’s long but there is a summary at the bottom, promise)
See his nice little picture:
My initial belief was that he achieved this scar later in life, after he was disowned, by some other bandits or whatnot. The part surrounding the scar line (which I tried to point to) is not very well healed/lots of damaged tissue (I say that like I’m a scar expert - I am not so maybe none of this makes sense) therefore I figured it happened when he didn’t have access to good healers, which would be post-Gautier-exile.
But! Now that I’ve thought about it, it totally could be from the Sreng attack too and that would be a very interesting take/Gautier trauma.
When I look at it with a Sreng attack light, maybe it’s the skin trying to compensate/stretch as he grew? (Sorry if that sounds icky) Something had to happen to it for it to be as irritated/pronounced compared to the other scars he has on his face, is my thought. I think stretching skin could definitely be a possibility, and honestly maybe even more plausible!
Also, it makes sense from a lore standpoint. Matthias sent his pregnant wife up to Sreng because he wanted to protect her from the plague. I always thought that Mik stayed behind because he was the heir to Gautier at the time and needed to train/learn, but as current heir wouldn’t Matthias want to protect him too in order to preserve the future of the territory, and therefore send Mik with his wife? It’s entirely plausible to me that occurred. It also would be another nail in Matthias’s thought-coffin of “peace with Sreng is naive idea” because if they were willing to do that to a defenseless child (Miklan couldn’t have been that old, I don’t think. I personally hc that Mik was around 2 1/2-3 when his mother died) then, in his head, they really would be the kind of people that would refuse to negotiate.
I thought of this piece literally as I type, and maybe this isn’t very fleshed out, but consider that Sreng gave Leif over because they knew they injured Miklan and they thought being “even” was giving Faerghus a child to do with as they pleased in return??
Please excuse me while I go cook this in my microwave brain.
Tl;dr: My belief up until this point was that it came from fellow bandits post-disownment. But now that I’ve considered this in response to your ask, it is totally probable that it is from Sreng and boy does that open up a fresh can of Gautier feels.
#Miklan#no problems abt the length of the post! I like reading longer posts abt theories and stuff! and... adding to them clearly LOL#also fun fact I went to the bathroom and my kitten wrote a giant REEEEEXXXX on my post bc he got on the keyboard lmfao#totally gonna post a pic of it on my blog

A lot of people say, jokingly or entirely seriously, that Rodrigue dying was the thing that pulled Dimitri back from the edge.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that just...not true?
Now don't get me wrong, I think Dimitri got the kick to the ass of the century, hearing about the disconnect between sacrifice in his name and martyrdom, and it was a kick he very much needed. But it only slaps a teeny bandaid on the Grand Canyon-esque cracks in his mind, and doesn't even begin to touch on what he does.
I genuinely think it's the change in character portrait that has people thinking Rodrigue's death was some epiphany, but Dimitri is still gung-ho about marching to Embarr and ending the war à la Edelgard's death, even after Rodrigue's final speech.
What we do see change: his mentality regarding the dead.
Then we get to the second facet of Dimitri's redemption.
Now, to me this is a lot murkier, but hear me out. Byleth is not The One That Saves Dimitri™.
We have a reaffirmation of his beliefs ^
And then a show of vulnerability, of inner turmoil, that contradicts his murderous single-mindedness from the war thus far ^
I won't give the writer's credit they're not due. It's more than possible this is set-up for player-pandering/fanservice. Byleth is constantly framed by the other characters as being the only one capable of handling Dimitri or whatever such nonsense. But I think it should--really, needs to--be said that Dimitri's first sign of true hope is deliberately...separate from Byleth:
Dimitri is presented with yet another contradiction, but this one is somehow more harmonious: death in the name of what you believe in has its value, but so too does living for it. Rodrigue represented the former, and Byleth represents the latter.
Let's say Dimitri took what Rodrigue said to heart; he was prepared to die in a way that he believed suited his beliefs: doing his damndest to take out the threat to the home he not only grew up in, but is and always has been responsible for. He believed the death of Edelgard was the only way forward, and he was taking the fast, bloodied track to get there.
What Byleth serves as in this scene, I think, is a method of wiping way fog from a cold window.
A helping hand.
As a counterpart to Rodrigue, Byleth is help that lives, against all odds.
Citing that famous, lovely post that says "Yes the goddess can reach out to us, and yes she does" in regards to Dimitri's cynicism of the goddess and the parallels drawn in Byleth: she is help that reaches out to him, if he wants to change.
A help that survived a five-year coma and who's followed him through every bloody battle he's undergone since their return. One that is the embodiment of belief--a belief in, I think, Dimitri himself. But that's neither here nor there.
Bylgh clarifies his options a bit more. Emphasizes that living for what he believes in has just as much, if not more, merit than dying in the same way. I'm firmly of the belief that Dimitri was helped by two people he loves dearly (however that love takes shape for you, but it is undoubtedly love regardless) in regaining a sense of self he hadn't taken the time to form even once in his life. There's certainly an element of fanservice throughout the route, but I genuinely do think those around Dimitri serve as reminders of how much work it's going to take to dig himself out of the grave he's made for himself and his kingdom. I think this moment accentuates the cruciality of Dimitri saving himself with the guidance of others.
We see, in real time, how Dimitri makes the choice to pull himself back from the edge.

i’m assuming you need a general idea of the plot so how about the reader joins the blue lions since they got a bit of a major crush on mercedes, but dimitri gets the wrong idea and thinks they’re actually into him so he gets hella upset when he finds out who they really like. that’s all i can really think of for this, it’s been awhile since i’ve played the game so i forgot some details and don’t wanna conflict with the story somehow so if you need more deets i can try and think up some more!
i’m fine with whatever you choose to do tho, i rlly like your writings so far and wanna see more in the future!! ^-^ /gen (iactuallymayhavereadyourraspberrycookiehcsmorethanonceagsjdhks—)
and i died in your arms tonight - dimitri alexandre blaiddyd x reader
A/N: anon ily /p TYSM FOR REQUESTING FE3H I HAD SO MUCH FUN WRITING THIS PROMPT I HOPE I DID IT JUSTICE,,, andbsksm im so happy to hear that, i'm glad to hear that you liked them,,, i hope you like this too!!
tags/CW'S/TW'S: unrequited crushes, you should probably see a summary of the Blue Lions route first before reading if you've never played fe3h, violence, murder, going unhinged, dimitri,,,, my poor boy,,,,, reader uses they/them pronouns and so does byleth too in here, wanting to commit violence to someone very badly, angst all around, fluff is mainly in the early parts, name calling/insults (boar, monster), self-depreciation
word count: 4.3k ish (wow... so many words...)
please tell me if i left anything out or the like for the tags/CW'S/TW'S!!

Dimitri notices you one day.
He's never really thought of you as anything more than a bystander- someone who he greets with a practiced smile on his face and nods at when passing by in between classes. Someone who is simply just there, in the Black Eagle house, with Edelgard as their house leader, who wears their emblem and has never quite bothered to actively make friends with the rest of the houses. He's sweaty when he finally interlocks eyes with you, hair matted with dust and sticking to his forehead.
The rest of his house walks behind him, groaning and sighing and basking in the content of their hard-fought victory. He wonders if there's anything that his house did not like better than the taste of victory- and wonders if that's one of the things that manages to draw everyone together. You're staring at the group, at him, eyes drifting toward Mercedes, for some reason, before going back to home, whispering to Dorothea near you. His teacher- Byleth, mercenary turned Professor extraordinaire- had already settled into their room when they had returned. They had scampered off, blue hair smacking against the back of their neck.
He takes another look at you. You stare back, as Dorothea giggles beside you and nudges you toward him. You grin, lopsided. There's a strange feeling that whispers inside him, that tells him, it's nice to be seen, right? Something else- his ghosts, his own damn self- instantly berates him, surrounding him like hounds hungry for blood.
Remember what you're here for.
And he understands, he will never, never forget the blood spilled on that day- but it's nice. Nice to be stared at with such a soft gaze, unlike Sylvain's or Ingrid's, always worrying, always too worried about someone like him, and unlike Felix's gaze. Felix, who has his eyes narrowed, mouth curved downwards in disgust, gaze sharp and unyielding, saying that he is a boar, and to "stop pestering me, boar." So he decides, with a sigh filled with soft air, that he likes your gaze on him. It's soft. It feels full of something he can't put a pin on. He wonders if Mercedes felt it too- your soft gaze on her. He had simply been spared a few seconds of it, the full brunt of it on the beloved healer of the Blue Lion house, but it was long enough. Long enough to decide he likes it, that is.
Besides, he tells himself, ignoring the ever so familiar hint of guilt that likes to well up inside him, it's nice. Nice, he tells himself, over and over as he puts up his silver lance and walks with Ashe to their dorms.
---
You join their house the next week, their Professor simply saying your name in that monotone voice of theirs. Dimitri watches his classmates go from muted interest to smiles all around, letting out cheers and declarations of how happy they are to have you. Dimitri hasn't seen his Professor smile since the Battle of the Eagle and the Lion, but he swears that he sees their lip curve upwards just a tiny bit, face free from any smiles that might even show. He grins too, lightly punching Dedue near him on his shoulder, mouth moving on its own. Dedue curves his own lips upwards, punching him back. His smile feels real for once, not in the way that everything in his body is begging to let go of noble propriety. It feels nice. Feels nice to actually grin. You're nervous, he gathers, as he watches Mercedes and you share words, whispering. The Professor says some sort of speech, simply saying to treat you with respect. And then the Professor, in their usual Professor style, walks out of the room, taking a Felix who is almost begging (or what is akin to begging for Felix) for a sparring match, an Ashe who is absolutely eager to share his findings of a new book, and then the rest of the class with them. Dedue is still near him, like the ever loyal retainer he is, while you and Mercedes stick behind, caught up in conversation.
You're sweating, clutching your uniform like it's your death-day, for some reason. Even for his standards, used to the frigid ice-scape that is Fareghus, the heat isn't so bad today. It feels nice. Mercedes, perhaps oblivious to your sweating and nervousness, is smiling at you, telling you that she'd be absolutely "-delighted if you could join me and Annie to make snacks together." You let out a rather warbly "I'd love that," cheeks turning the softest shades of reds. You look around suddenly, before your soft gaze settles on him. And then your face turns a bit more flushed, as you immediately look away from him, head tilted up high. Something inside of him preens at that reaction- he isn't sure what.
Mercedes smiles at you, turning away to the open classroom door, her footsteps light and quiet despite the cobblestone underneath her shoes.
"Ah, I'd also enjoy it if we could become better friends, as well!" Is the last thing she says before heading out, the healer's hair softly swaying in the breeze. You let out a choked sound, akin to a dying animal, as you nod furiously and say yes. He's almost positive you're going to collapse now. You let out a sigh, and yes, he thinks, he was right, as you fall to your knees as you steady yourself. He walks up from his desk, chair making almost a screech sound against the floor, and leaves Dedue, staring. Dimitri kneels down near you, head tilted and his smile a tiny bit real. It's forced, he thinks, as he pats your shoulder.
"Are you alright?" He asks, eyes narrowing at your form.
You peek up, eyes staring back. Your face turns red again, as you scramble up.
You let out a hurried 'your Highness,' bowing. "Forgive-" you stutter the first word out, looking anywhere but him.
"Forgive me," is what you say, finishing the sentence. You add on a quick Your Highness, mumbling.
He narrows his eyes, smile straining.
"Ah." He says.
"You don't need to call me Your Highness, you know. I am perfectly happy with being called Dimitri."
You finally look up at him, eyes blinking. Your gaze is still soft on his face, he notices. You gulp, a nervous smile stretching across your face.
"Then.... Dimitri." you say, smiling. Dimitri lets out a soft grin himself. It feels nice. It feels good to be called by his name. Not a title. You let out a squeak, realizing something.
You move past him, legs starting to run out of the classroom.
"Wait." He says, watching you almost fall over in your running as you come to a stop.
"Yes, Dimitri?"
His name sounds nice, he realizes, from your mouth.
"If this is alright with you," he starts off, voice in that perfect pitch he usually has it in, "perhaps we can become friends?" Something inside of breaks at how desperate that must seem to you, how absolutely needy, so ungrateful he must sound-
But you nod quickly, soon continuing on your trek to somewhere else in the holy Monastery. Most likely to join Mercedes and Annette, he thinks, as he stares at your retreating form. Dedue walks over to him, and simply nods.
"Your Highness," he starts, "we need to get going as well."
And Dimitri simply nods.
---
The first time he meets up with you, in attempt 1, dubbed lovingly by Sylvain as: "His Highness Gets A-" and was never finished, because Ingrid had lovingly kicked him in his shins. The Professor had agreed to make a tea party for the both of you; making batches of chamomile tea and forcing Annette and poor Ashe to tastetest. The Professor had also managed to get an unwilling Dedue roped in, getting the Duscurain's opinion. Dimitri, really, did not think that this was worth the fuss over trying to become better friends with you. But he liked it. If their efforts did pay off, then, who's to say that no one would like it? And so, he sips at the chamomile tea put out by said Professor, brewed to perfection by the former mercenary after multiple taste-tests. You're sitting still, surprisingly. Unlike all the times he's seen you fidgeting in the Blue Lion's healer presence, and Mercedes had gracefully ignored it, simply asking what did you need, while you stuttered and smiled.
You sip at your own tea- entertaining Dimitri's efforts to strike up a conversation. Dimitri asks you what your family was like, how are you doing, what are some of your favorite hobbies, and they're all met with curt answers and quick responses. Your face is still red though, he notes. Perhaps you're nervous. And so he asks if you are.
You stutter almost immediately, losing control of that still composure you had just a bit.
"I'm doing quite fine, Dimitri," you say, coughing, "just. Have a lot on my mind, is all."
Dimitri softly smiles- "What's on your mind, then?"
You stutter again, headplanting your face into the table. Dimitri sips at his tea, ignoring the ruckus from the bush nearby, knowing full-well what his classmates were doing. (He had begged for them to leave the both of you in peace- but they all had simply grinned and tagged along.)
"Well." You say, blushing, cheeks colored a fine red, as you peek up at him with soft eyes. Dimitri, for the second time in his life, realizes that he may be falling into something. He gulps- he's never felt this nervous before, never like this- and stares at you back with blue eyes that resemble a lake. Your eyes, your soft eyes he's grown ever so fond of, dart back and forth, til you lean over in your chair, whispering.
"You better not tell anyone, Princeling."
Princeling. He doesn't care for the nickname, but if it's from you, then it's alright.
"I have," another baited breath, " a crush. Perhaps. On someone. In our. Class." You stop after each word suddenly, blushing a foul red.
He looks up at you, and feels something in his chest twist and bang and explode. He's tempted to ask who it is. Maybe you can read his thoughts, or maybe you can tell by expression alone, because you say, looking away from him, body back in the chair, "At the end of the school year, I'll say."
There's a sudden cheer from the bush, which makes you twist your head so impossibly fast and the bush goes silent once more.
Dimitri feels his lips curve up, and he doesn't focus on anything for once that doesn't involve death, that doesn't involve fire and a field soaked in blood, and thinks of you, with your soft eyes and flushing face, and decides to hope for once.
----
Dimitri wonders what happened between you and Mercedes, during the ending of the White Heron Cup. You seem to be less flustered around her, smiling always, as the healer herself grins and giggles. You both smile and grin at each other, hands sometimes entertwined with the other's hand. Annette has pouted at it before, he notices, saying "-you already have His Highness as a best friend, don't go stealing mine!" And you simply laugh, and and you laugh in such a way that makes his heart throb and feel normal, for once.
The Professor has been cheering him on, lately, for some reason. At least, that's what Dimitri guesses is what they're doing, when they punch the air in a show of solidarity, whenever he has a tea party with you. Whenever he's close to you, really, and the Professor just happens to be nearby. He, somehow, managed to become closer to you. And he likes being near you. Likes to hear you laugh. To laugh and tug at his arm, smiling at him. The ghosts do not wish for murder, they do not wish for revenge, they stay silent for a welcomed change. It's blissful. It's peaceful, and he likes it. He needs it like he needs air, because for once, there are no screeches in his ears, there are no wails from under his bed, and there are fading bags from under his eyes. There are only soft murmurs near his ear and they are so incredibly easy to ignore, unlike yells or screeches or cries for revenge. He smiles whenever he's near you, and from how much his own chest beats like a human, not like a boar or a monster, he feels alive. Alive, he thinks, because love is such a human thing to experience. He's only ever felt it a time before, when everything was decidedly normal and both of his parents and friends were alive and not reduced to ghosts haunting him, screaming for revenge. He likes it. He loves it, if he would dare say it outloud. He only ever says that line of thought when he's alone, gulping down air.
---
Everything comes crashing down, soon after. Edelgard's- no, that monster, that monstrosity, he thinks, cursing her name for every crime that she has done- mask falls down, and Dimitri has never wanted to choke someone, has never wanted to piece someone with his lance, because finally, finally, he has a name for who has wronged him, who caused these ghosts to follow him, and they are all yelling to kill her, yelling and screeching.
Except. Except there's a soft touch of hand on his shoulder, and he's tempted to throw it off, in this Holy Tomb, and he looks back for one second and- it's you. You with a worried face, face scrunched up, mouth parted open. He glares- he has never glared at you before, never dared to- and shrugs it off. The ghosts hiss at him- he is wasting time, "why are you wasting time, you foolish lovestruck boy, give us her head, give us penance-" and something cracks under his iron grip. He has the Crest of Blaiddyd. Of unnatural strength. Of a single touch making things shatter under his grip. He has always resented it. But not now. Not now, in this moment, when he can finally get everything he came to this damned Monastery for. The face he grips with a ferocity cracks under his touch, and he can feel blood and snot leak onto his armored glove. The knight- no, vermin, he thinks- cries out weakly for help. None of the other vermin comes to help out. He throws his lance, and Edelgard dodges ever so slightly, axe gripped tight in her hand, violet eyes staring into hate-filled ones. She takes a single look at the Professor, before shaking her head.
"Professor." She says. "Do you refuse?"
And the Professor says something, says no, and Edelgard yells at a nearby mage to take her away.
Taking her away from her fate. Taking her away from her destiny to die, to die with a life with so much left unaccomplished. And Dimitri is more than glad to be the one who ends it, who hangs her head by her white hair on the gates of Enbarr.
And Dimitri has never felt such rage before, has never felt such anger, has never seen such red in his eyes. He knows of soft reds. He knows of the light pink on your cheeks. But he knows of blood, a deep red staining his hands, body, mind, and he practically lives in it. Felix, from somewhere, always someplace nearby but far, sneers at him. "This is the real boar prince you've all been pretending that doesn't exist," he says, voice full of malcontent and barely hidden anger, and Dimitri ignores it. He only acknowledges you turning him towards you, dull blue eyes looking into your ever so soft ones.
He wants to promise you that he'll get her head, and then finally, he'll be free, he'll finally get to hear whoever you liked, he'll finally be-
The Professor opens his clenched hand, staring at the blood that had stained the previously clear silver. They wave a healing spell over him, and their stare is impossibly hard, eyes boring into his head. The ghosts whisper at him- leave them behind, go get her head, they jeer- and he yanks his hand away from their soft touch.
He's about to walk off, shoulders straightened, on a warpath. A path that has already been bloodied, bodies strewn along it. Except.
You tug at his arm, eyes twinkling. There are tears that are leaking out, he thinks, as he stares. Your eyes are still soft, soft as he's known. He stills. There are other sets of eyes on him, tense and waiting. Hands tightened around lances, around swords, raised up and soft shades of purples emanating. Magic, he dully realizes. Maybe they should cut him down, he muses, because he is nothing but a beast now. You grip his hand tight, sighing.
"Dimitri," you start off, and the ghosts have started to YELL, THEY ARE HISSING, THEY WANT HIM GONE, THEY WANT HER DEAD, THEY WANT HER HEAD- and Dimitri has never hated like he has before.
"Please. You need to rest."
"I will rest," he grits out, "when I have gotten her head."
And then he yanks himself from your soft hands, soft gaze, from everything that he likes, and continues on a warpath that will make him crack.
----
The Professor, screeching and yelling, falls from a cliff, the Sword of the Creator wrapping around their body from a blast of magic. Dimitri is slowly being ripped apart at the seams, with each accusation, with each cry from people he has never known. That he has committed regicide, killed the Grand Duke of Fareghus. Killed his uncle. Corneila wants him executed, but she does not know that he has been dead for so many years. He is dead. He is a monster. He has been dead, and remains that way.
His eye has been taken out by a stray bandit, an arrow piercing the flesh. He ripped it out easily, blood leaking out.
He does not care.
He comes to the Monastery, shivering and shuddering, with a lance in hand and an eyepatch tied around his head.
He steps into the Monastery, black armored boots banging against the cobblestone. The wreckage of the Monastery is all over the place. He kicks pure bricks and stones out of his way, lance making a screeching sound against the stone.
There is someone. Someone who looked older, aged like the heavens. They are tucked into themselves, hands over their knees, head tucked inside their body. They look like a little mouse, he thinks, as he stalks over to them. They peek up, and- oh, he thinks, oh.
It's you.
Your soft eyes. Soft gaze. He stares at your head, turned away from him, his single blue eye boring into your head. You turn to him, eyes soft as ever. Something inside of his chest churns, throat turning dry.
"Dimitri?" You ask, peeking up. Mouse is what he thinks of you, acting like one, is all his mind gives him. You move over to him, a boar, a beast, and gently place your hand on his face.
A ghost- his father- hisses at him. "Former Black Eagle," he hisses, "they would use you. They are with her, kill them, kill them-" And you look into his eyes, and he has missed it, and he has been a monster for so long, and Dimitri falls apart.
---
Dimitri wonders if you should be here. You must be after something, he thinks, if you decide to stay here with him. If you decide to take care of a beast like him. You drag him to the washhouse. You make him clean his lance. You go with him, when he has to murder some vermin hoping for quick riches in the Monastery's treasury, despite having been long emptied out. You stay here, despite it. Sometimes, when the ghosts are particularly silent, when there are only a few yelling surrounding his ears, he thinks about what you told him. A promise, from when you both became friends. He wonders and wonders. There's the old beating of a heart- his own, he realizes- that beats at the idea.
---
It's a nice day. The heat is bearable. Even with all this armor on him, it's alright. It isn't making him wish to cower away from everything. You're right next to him, soft breaths emitting from your mouth, parted open slightly.
You sigh, leaning against him, covered in his cloak. His blonde hair, well-kept in the past but not anymore, has grown long and shabby, reaching his shoulders. It's a soft silence. He has never let his guard down like this before. You look at him for a second. He wonders, in a moment, if this was how they acted back then. When the both of you were friends and laughed together. Played together, weapons singing out in the tunes of battle, arm hanging off a shoulder. You and him, laughing together, and he has never felt such ease like this. At least not when you, with your soft gaze, allowed the beast to be your friend on that fateful day.
"Hey, Dimitri." You say, eyes turned toward the sky. He wonders, once more, if this is what friends do. If this is what actual friends, not like him, not like the beast that he is, does.
He grunts as a reply. You shuffle a bit.
"Hey," you say, eyes turning to him.
Dimitri simply nods back at you, eye focused ahead of him, hand slowly unfurling around his blood-stricken lance.
"Technically, now that the school year is over-" A soft silence. Restarting a sentence, he notes, with an eye colored blue staring at you, his face still facing forward, gaunt and full of sharp lines.
"I never told you who I was crushing on, huh?" An attempt at small talk, he thinks. "Did you, uh- Do you still wish to know?"
You look at him again, eyes blinking, a soft blush blooming over your cheeks. It's enrapturing. A punch of emotions hits him in his chest, hard and fast. Everything is warm, for some reason, and so, so, warm.
"I think- I think I'm still perhaps crushing on them."
You let out a nervous laugh, shifting towards him. The blush on your face is gone for a moment, and he thinks it's a pity. (Before everything happened, is what he thinks you left out to say, before he truly embraced that he is a monster, a beast, a murderer.)
He turns toward you, and then there is a flicker of hope that lights up in his chest, and he does not kill it immediately with water from a sobering reality. He watches it flicker, and nods.
There's a deafening silence around the both of you, as the ghosts are silent and they are quiet, and there is only you and him, with his old quiet fantasies that he used to comfort himself with being reignited. You stare at him, laughing. There's a soft blush that appears on your cheeks, laughing nervously.
"It was-" and something inside of him cracks.
"Mercedes-" He stomps whatever flicker in his chest that lit up.
"During the White Heron Cup, we met at the-"
And Dimitri feels a primal anger rise, the ghosts yell at him, you stupid idiot, you fool, for falling in love, you beast, why would they ever like you- (italics here before and) and then he gets up. He growls, teeth gritting against each other. You tilt your head- "Dimitri, are you-?"
And Dimitri never in the moment has never felt such a breaking of his heart, has never felt such sadness before, that threatens to leak out of his only eye. He has never felt such red anger like this before, he has never-
He whips his head around you, eye glaring at you. He was always so scared of doing it before. There is a part of him that loves you, that still loves you, and he wants to kill it. He wants to rip out every part of him. You ask him again, if he's alright, and he slaps away the soft hand that comes to cradle his face.
"Leave me alone," he growls out, a blue eye resembling a tornado.
You do not. Traitor, (I) the ghosts say to him. You look at him, your eyebrows furrowed in soft anger- "Dimitri. What has gotten you so-"
"Leave me ALONE," he bellows at you, acting like an injured animal. He growls. He hates you, he loves you, he hates that healer, he hates her, hates her for taking you away from him, hates himself for being so utterly foolish to believe that he could have had a beloved-
You step back. You remind him of a mouse. A mouse in the presence of a scary beast, of a monster who has claws for hands and a lance on the floor. He growls at you, eye akin to a tempest, to a storm raging. Blue turning to shreds. He doesn't want you to go- but you already seem to be backing away, his cloak falling off of him. He kicks it aside, and stares at you. Glares, really.
You take a deep breath in, and walk off. He does not follow. He does not follow because he is a beast.
A beast alone, he thinks, and suddenly, he slinks to the floor. He's tired. He's never been this tired before. Everything hurts inside of him, heart being poked at it, mouth filling up with a metallic liquid he's long since been familiar with. A beast who is alone. A monster. A horrible person.
He yowls into the sky, and then there is nothing, and then there is everything, and then there is a hand that extends out to him, while he is but a shred of humanity long gone since he was a little boy, in a field of bloodied flowers and blooming tears.
[fun fact: title is from "arms tonite," by mother mother!]

SB exists to guilt those in Faerghus who are just trying to defend their homeland. There's really nothing more deep than that. Make the victims feel guilty for daring to oppose the Waifu red emperor conqueror trying to invade them. That's legit the only reason Shez says that to Ashe about "wHY yOU make Lonato FeeL bAd?"
It really is sad how both games and in Hopes two routes just make them seem terrible for defending their home. I appreciate that Claude eventually is a bit pissed that they didn't even consider why Dimitri was fighting because they were too focused on finding Rhea in the battle and that they need to consider Dimitri too, but I hate that most of the time they're made out to be "wrong" for fighting back.
I understand that Rhea being there means they have to get past the Kingdom, but like Dimitri and his retainers said, they had the choice to shield her and fight the Empire or submit their lands to the Empire. They knew all along Edelgard was out for conquest and knew what would happen if they didn't fight back. Out of nowhere their only choices were to surrender their territory and laws to the Empire, or to protect the Church's people who had never wronged them and only ever assisted them during troubling times. Either way they already had a shitty decision to make and I've actually seen people say Dimitri chose to be part of the war. Like, no, he chose to fight back because it's not fair for them to lose their lands/their authority to the Empire for doing absolutely nothing to the Empire. He could've left Rhea and her people to fend for themselves, but the Empire would eventually still attack them, as proven by them attacking Leicester who was not shielding the Church's people.
I would understand more if it was written to be directly from the Empire's perspective, like, them framing them as being at fault because "your land used to be the Empire's land", but all the routes kind of portray it as "Faerghus BaD because they respect themselves and their home and don't think deserve this". SB is just the most notorious about it and makes Dimitri out to be a villain for... doing absolutely nothing. He was minding his business and working on internal affairs while the Empire and Alliance were going at it. He could've taken a side and just joined in to help Claude's side, but he didn't. He stayed out of it as much as possible and only defended when attacked.
That line from Shez was just atrocious to me lol. Everyone knows Lonato was a turncoat and that should be reason enough for everyone to understand why Ashe wanted to fight. It had nothing to do with making Lonato feel bad. If Lonato felt bad about it then that's on him and he had to have known that was a risk for his choices when his own son was a royal knight for the king that he was betraying. Ashe made a decision based on Lonato's pre-existing decision.
Honestly besides for Shez being questionable sometimes, Empire Shez is... like I said before, kind of a psycho and a huge manipulator. Convincing Ashe he's in the wrong for fighting for his homeland and king is awful, and Empire Shez also wants to murder Claude who is also just defending his home from the Empire and have him be a trophy for the Empire because Empire Shez just wants money even if it means killing the guy who was very kind to you two years ago.
I don't feel like I'm being bias toward the Kingdom when I say this, but Faerghus Shez is the one who seems to have actual friendships and genuinely cares for the people around them. Like, most of the time when I point things out about Faerghus it's not based on a pre-existing bias, but that that bias comes into existence because they're the more humane people. I hate how it's the good, humane people who get made out to sound like villains for fighting back and not just letting someone take over their country.
By those standards, the irl war going on right now is like, these people are wrong for defending their home against their invader and should just let themselves be conquered because ??? Pooface wants to conquer so they should just let themselves be conquered ???
Like... that's not how it works lol, if you get attacked you fight back. People defending themselves against invasion is not wrong and it's disgusting for Faerghus to be treated that way. If it was an irl situation it would not be treated that way and that's literally happening in real time irl. Right now what's happening is no different than Faerghus being invaded by the Empire, and most of the world's continents and countries are on irl Faerghus' side and helping by sending what help they can. So... I'm not sure how anyone could play Hopes and walk out thinking Faerghus is bad for defending their home then turn around and be the exact opposite person with the war happening in our own world.
#I mean this is literally a case of Faerghus did nothing wrong lol they were just... existing#they were fixing up some internal problems and suddenly had to make a choice#and both choices were bad but they knew the Empire would attack them no matter what#the decision to help the Church was made with several factors involved and all of them were positive#whereas not helping them was several factors of negative#Faerghus was legit being attacked from all directions and somehow they're the bad guys in this?#methinks it stinks of waifu and marketing bias and that stink is STAAAAANKY#DCE Ask
