Dimitri married queen Byleth as her prince cosort and is trying his best to support her until his friends and the queen's council drop to him thay he should get into getting her an heir for like yesterday because only a baby would give her reign legitimacy and a proper start of the Eisner Dinasty. SO... now he has to pretend they are doing it for Fodlan and he is not doing it because he is stupidly smitten.

She is kind, strong, intelligent and she could have any man or woman she desired.

And obviously she married him for political reasons... Because who would want the love of a beast like him? So he has to make it as painless and quick as possible? But why would she embrace him? But why does she looks tenderly at him? What does that mean?

He is a dumbass your honor.

They also both suck at communication your honor.

When Dimitri is told he have to give a heir to the Archbishop, to say he's troubled is belittling.

Of course he spent his academy days thinking about it- thinking to start a family with the professor of the Black Eagles, thinking about how sweet and perfect she would be carrying his child(ren) [The Blayddid Breeding Kink™ is always on]- but he always thought it wasn't possible. He didn't deserve her (he does); why would she love him back (she does)?

But now, now his wildest dream came true: he's married to the woman he fell in love with the very moment he first saw her. But at the same time, he knows it's all fake (it isn't), she doesn't love him back (she does, she too fell in love with him years ago), it's all for political reasons (the day Byleth and Dimitri got married was the happiest the Archbishop ever been).

He doesn't deserve her hand, and even less he does deserve to see her giving him child(ren). He knows it's a sinner, to love her in secret and yet under the light of their marriage; he's lying to her, they're married and yet he shouldn't be so happy about it, he shouldn't love her so much. And to give her a heir means... to use her, to lie to her once again; he doesn't have the right to indulge in his feelings, he doesn't have the right to have her, he shouldn't use her, he shouldn't enjoy the idea so much-

But she's watching him with so much tenderness, she's taking his hand with so much care it's like she's afraid to break it (it won't, Dimitri's body is strong, so strong he's the one afraid of breaking her-); and now she's kissing him with so much passion- it's their second kiss, the first a quick bruising lips on their wedding day, to seal their union- and he can't help but reciprocate, he knows he shouldn't- he told himself to be quick and functional, no feelings allowed-

And yet he indulges in her warm, because he's a weak man, no, a weak beast; and now she's dragging him to the bed, never letting him go, like she's afraid he'd disappear- but she must not worry, for Dimitri is a weak beast and does not want to go away- and her kisses become even more passionate and her hands explore his body with more fervor. And as they go on- Dimitri starts to think he's actually died during the war, and this is the afterlife, and the Goddess must be toying with him, all of this can't be real, she's exactly like he always dreamed- he stops in his kissing, and looks her in the eye. "Why?" he whispers, on the verge of tears. "Why are you showing me so much love? A depraved beast as i am, willing to use you for my sinful desires, does not deserve such care, does not deserve your warmth". He's about to move away, when Byleth's hand firmly holds him. "You asked why," she kisses his cheek. "I, too, have sinned," she kisses his nose. "I should have kissed you earlier," she kisses his damaged eye. "I should have shown earlier how much I love you," she kisses his lips. "I've sinned to you. I should have been more honest. But allow me to fix it".

A part of Dimitri wants to answer back- the part that keeps reminding him he's but a beast- but Byleth is looking at him with so much desire and not a hint of lies- she was never good at lying- and how could he refuse a direct request from his Goddess?

"As you wish, my beloved."

Texts from the time say the Archbishop Byleth and her husband Dimitri were blessed with many children, and that they both always smiled when looking at each other, desperately in love.

    First impression:

I was obliquely aware of throuses long before I actually played it, so on my first actual playthrough it was something like “oh right it’s this guy. people are weird about this guy. surely I won’t be weird about this guy.”

    Impression now:

I cannot overstate how weird I am about this guy.

    Favorite moment:

So the thing is that if I try to pick anything that’s a major part of the plot I am just going to end up picking like. half the scenes in the entire route. Instead of doing that I’m going to say I liked the support where he tricked Ashe into telling him which sweets to buy him. That was cute.

Honorable mention: in my VW run when he killed my (comically over-leveled) Byleth in one hit and I had to go back in time and do some Actual Strategical Thinking to keep him from doing it again. I was yelling in real life.

    Idea for a story:

I have simultaneously a lot and not enough :)

One of them is a potentially multi-chapter mess in which he and Felix gradually repair their friendship using Byleth as a go-between, which might end up being good. Or I might never get it to a point where I like it enough to post. idk. explodes in a silly way

I love curating my fandom experience so that I barely ever see bad takes about him and I don’t have to engage if I do :)

…ok honestly though I am actually pretty picky about what variety of dimileth I actually like. The deeply weird version of their dynamic that exists in my head Compels Me and I am doing my absolute best to communicate through my art and fic what the hell that actually means. So far I don’t know if I’ve been successful but I sure am going to keep trying.

ALSO. I am not exclusively a dimileth enjoyer, and I LOVE so many of his relationships that aren’t necessarily romantic. Dimitri’s arc is about, among other things, learning to recognize that people love him and that it’s okay to lean on them if he needs to, and god do his friends really love him so fucking much. I got his paired ending with Dedue in my og run, and they are. So important to me. I can see them as platonic or romantic and it doesn’t matter because either way they love each other and they save each other’s lives all over again every single day and I am Definitely Not Crying About It.

    Favorite headcanon:

I have a lot of small and mostly unspoken headcanons in mind when I write and draw him, but it’s hard to articulate any one of them on its own. I’m gonna serve my own All Of You Are Weird Aspecs character agenda and say I think he’s grey-aro, grey-ace, bi, and Not Normal About It and no I’m not projecting in any way who said that

As I've grown into the respective communities, I've learned I like to stick to my small corners, and I don't like the negative attention from being everywhere. I Think as a ship, dimileth can offer a lot of flavors because aside from the Azure Moon route, you can easily picture scenarios for them in the other routes. Other than that, A big part of me loves the normal progression they had in AM, from being slightly cautious, to that beautiful admiration (especially from Dimitri's part lol) to the whole angst of feralmitri and to them finally standing as equals.

However, I'd like to owe my continuous love for Dimileth to the community itself 🥺 everyone is just so open, kind and encouraging that no matter what flavor you want to create for them, you'll surely find the uplifting energy to make you continue 💙💚

Why is this ship so much more close to your heart than others? Like what makes Dimileth so different from other ships, what separates them?

I have so many reasons why I love dimileth :)

Their story and the character arc that Byleth and Dimitri both experience in Azure Moon.

They're both hot.

I can fit them into so many AUs because they're both so multi-faceted. I can zero in on one aspect of their personality and run with it for certain pieces.

Them together made me draw again after years of not, and through drawing them, has also improved my style and skill as an artist.

I've made wonderful friends in the community and I love how we all support and inspire each other :)

Stuff like that makes me wonder what kind of cognitive dissonance people have to have to think IS handles certain topics well when it's mostly done to cater to their base, not to mention the amount of people complaining about taboo relationships, when IS makes it clear that they don't care and will indulge in whatever taboo relationship they want so long as they don't get backlash.

People really want to see themselves in fictional characters, and often to do that they have to ignore aspects of those characters that don't align with what they're looking for. FE with its hundreds of lightly-developed characters of all sorts is prime material for that kind of projection. They want to see Bernadetta as an earnest depiction of social anxiety, or project their own religious trauma onto Edelgard's motives, or fix a traumatized bad boy because (M/F) Dimileth is tailor-made for that kind of storyline.

I spend a lot of my fandom energy looking into gay subtext, but I fully acknowledge that, when it comes to IS, most of that content comes out of straight male writers' blind spots. Most of the rest, namely the Avatar same-sex romances (excluding Japanese Fates which actually uses different scripts), is merely the incidental result of treating the main characters' gender as a binary, mechanical toggle.

Fandom drama arises whenever someone else points out the discrepancy between what's actually canon and what you're projecting onto canon. It can be difficult for people to acknowledge that others in the shared community of fandom have different priorities when it comes to fiction.

I have no actual plot ideas for you, but I would love to see a childhood friends type AU for Dimileth!

Thanks for the ask! I didn't think I had any plot ideas for this either, but then something went off in my brain and this got a bit long, so...under the cut it goes!

(Brevity is definitely not my strong point.)

I've seen this done in one of two flavors: Byleth being raised in the Kingdom for some reason, or the two of them meeting once as children and then recognizing each other during their first in-game meeting.

But consider a third option! Jeralt's band accepts a job for King Lambert. It's deemed too dangerous for Byleth (say she's about ten, which would make Dimitri about seven), so she stays behind in Fhirdiad with the innkeeper's family. They find her unnerving and she gets bored, so she sneaks into the castle and that's how she and Dimitri meet. They become secret friends while Jeralt is away, and Byleth gets particularly attached because Dimitri is her first real friend.

Meanwhile, Rhea comes to Fhirdiad for some church-related reason, and she's at the castle when Jeralt (with Byleth, who insisted on coming along in hopes of seeing Dimitri again) returns to collect his payment. Rhea offers him his old job (just like at the beginning of the game) and he reluctantly accepts and he and Byleth return with her to Garreg Mach. Byleth grows close with Rhea, Seteth and Flayn (when she gets there) and she trains to be both a teacher and a part time knight of Seiros. Rhea expresses a wish for Byleth to be her eventual successor.

Dimitri and Byleth maintain a regular correspondence until the Tragedy of Duscur. She hears about what happens to his family and for awhile, can't even get confirmation that he's alive, and her letters go unanswered. Turns out Rufus (or one of his goons) has been intercepting all of Dimitri's outside communications. Byleth eventually insists on going to Fhirdiad with or without permission. When she's refused entry to the castle, she forces her way in. (Nothing's going to keep her from her friend!)

I imagine a scenario where, once Byleth realizes Dimitri's situation at the castle, she arranges with Rhea and Jeralt to stay so Dimitri has someone else looking out for him. She and Dedue work in tandem to protect him, and she joins Dimitri when he suppresses the western rebellion (getting to meet Felix & Rodrigue in the process). I imagine Cornelia would probably try to scheme of some way to dispose of Byleth, possibly even figuring out what she is, but Byleth also gathers intel about her and starts helping Dimitri put the whole Duscur conspiracy together.

By the time Dimitri is sent the Officer's Academy, he and Byleth are AN ITEM, with Dedue's full approval (and a begrudging approval from Felix, since he saw her skills during the rebellion as well as the stabilizing presence she has on 'the boar;' Rodrigue is fully supportive). She isn't allowed to teach the Blue Lions for this reason, though she holds seminars that they're allowed to join, so she gets to befriend them all. She and Dimitri at least try to be subtle about their romance, but everyone pretty much knows they'll be getting married after the school year. Jeralt's not terribly enthused about it. Rhea's mostly on board, though she still wants Byleth to be her successor.

Wait...wait...I got it! Byleth teaches the Black Eagles and Edelgard tries to convince her to join her side, and Byleth plays along with it so she can gather more intel about Duscur! She gets wise to Edelgard's plans and the war gets stopped before it even begins!

Bay’s 2022 Writing Summary

So my 2022 writing summary is being posted much a bit later due to real life craziness and another reason I'll explain below. For now though, my 2022 writing summary!

FE3H -The Library Song - A Felix/Annette Teachers ending nsfw fic I wrote for 2021 Netteflix Exchange. The two bet whose house would win that then leads them to having an intimate moment at the library. I love nsfw Netteflix and had a blast writing it. However, this fic also left me with some negative feelings towards the Netteflix fandom for reasons I won't say in public here lol. My recipient loves it at least so that's all that matters.

-Talk to Me, Dance with Me- 2022 Dimileth Hot Flash fic where the two were at a masquerade ball and pretending to be strangers one night. Loved everyone's reactions to the end where Dimitri practically slips up their strangers roleplaying haha. Also got nice art from Karini from the art raffle she was holding!

-Thunder Without Rain- My Dimileth Big Bang fic and magnus opus Dimileth work. I actually thought the first initial ideas of this fic since October 2019, setting it aside until I finish with Foul Play first. Well, fast forward to January 2022 when sign ups for Dimileth Big Bang started and I switched gears haha. I thought it would be around 40K like my FMA Big Bangs, but nope ended up 68K oh lordy. GirlInterrupted did wonderfully with the four(!!) art pieces!

The initial writing it from January to July has been a roller coaster. Despite several appointments and such, managed to finish it with a couple weeks to spare for last minute editing. During the posting I got nice support from the first couple chapters! I then got sad when the feedback had gotten less the more chapters I posted and comparing AO3 stats, which triggered my Imposters Syndrome real bad. I'm still trying to work on that. I'm happy for the folks that made it to the end and I do hope others will catch up eventually!

-Through the Snowstorm- Bernadetta/Hubert fic I wrote for the FE3H Rarepair Exchange. Hubert takes care of Berndetta while they get trapped in a snowstorm. Also surprised I got a few lovely comments on this fic considering this is a rarepair and all haha.

-Reassuring Touches- Three short Dimileth fics I did as fic requests on Twitter, one for each phase of their lives. I haven't done ficlets in a while so that was fun to do!

-Droplets of Jupiter- Wrote this for Dimileth Goggles, an event where you have Dimileth in a crossover of another media. I went with Modern Dimileth AU based off the 2013 anime movie The Garden of Words. Dimitri skips school on rainy days and meets with Byleth often at a park. It had gotten longer than expected and delayed due to stuff that happened in August/September and hopping other WIPs. Got final chapter posted last week!

-Azure Queen- Wrote this for Dimileth Trick or Treat 2022. Snow Queen AU where Dimileth are long-lost lovers and Dimitri is a demon. I got the first two parts written and I hope to eventually get it done sometime in early-mid 2023 because I'm excited for some monster loving that comes later lol.

-Counting Stars- The reason my 2022 writing post is pushed back until now. Wrote this as a gift to Qoboe for the 2022 Dimileth Winter Exchange! She wanted Dimileth happy and in love, so I thought of them going on a little romantic getaway as the premise! Very happy that she loves it!

Other -Mochi Ice Cream- A little short ficlet Ryunosuke/Susato request I did when doing some fic requests on Twitter. I was surprised that I got some comments and people are into that ship haha.

So yeah, 2022 has been a mostly Dimileth writing year as you can tell lol. I got not one but two multi-part fics done!  Highlight being joining the Dimileth community filled with talented and lovely people. I'm still unsure my creations measure up compare to everyone else, but it's nice we've bonded over our blorbos lol.

2023 plans is to finish Azure Queen and Foul Play. Foul Play has been on the backburner due to Dimileth brainrot lol. Thanks to a certain new Pokemon in Scarlet/Violet, I might make a last minute addition and hopefully will finally get back to it. After that, who knows. As much as I loved the various FE3H events I wrote for last year, I'm feeling a bit of burnout atm and would like to focus on my WIPs for the time being.  I kept saying I want to start original writing, so we'll see on that.

11. Do you have any strange phobias?

I don’t know if it’s strange but I have trypophobia. It’s strong enough that I have developed coping mechanisms to deal with it. It can become like an intrusive thought once it’s on my mind. I filter for it on here, and I’m always grateful when someone I follow actually uses the tag so I don’t have to see it. I also haven’t bothered to internalize how it’s spelled (even tho looking at it now it’s really not complicated), but I have the word saved in my notes app because originally I had to Google it and let me tell you… not a fun experience!

Not really! Thank goodness tbh. I hyperfixated on Fire Emblem: Three Houses pretty hard when I got into it (June or July), and went down the Dimileth rabbit hole first, then Sylvix. I’m still enjoying Sylvix, but it’s not compulsive like it was when I was well and truly hyperfixated. I’ve been avoiding finishing the CF route, tho, so I’m currently playing Spiritfarer.

78. Can insanity bring on more creativity?

Uh oh! You’ve unlocked Opinions™. The first of which is that insanity is a word I find uncomfortable because it isn’t an official psychological term anymore, it’s mostly used in law these days to indicate severe mental illness, and when the average person genuinely uses it to describe another person they’re often using it to demonize said person’s mental illness. However, I don’t think anyone involved here intended that, so I am just mentioning it because I have met a lot of folks for whom it is a word that personally hurts them, and thus I feel the need to say something.

To answer the actual question, I think it’s looking at it wrong, really. Rather than bringing on creativity, I think mental illness tends to result in unique experiences, both positive and negative, and art is an outlet for all of it. Van Gogh had what seems to be manic depression, and art was a way to express himself. Art therapy is very much a thing for folks with all sorts of mental illnesses. It allows you to explore life, yourself, whatever you want in a way that doesn’t require words (or does, if you express yourself through writing), and can maybe communicate some of what’s going on in your head to someone else who otherwise might have very little understanding. And it can even help you understand yourself, too, sometimes.

So yeah, I think ultimately unique experiences and perspectives make a person more creative, especially in the eyes of someone whose own experiences are very different. It’s all relative, baby! This is also why diversity is super important (beyond just being fundamentally a good thing), because diverse people have diverse ideas and diversity of thought leads to creativity and innovation :3

90. One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by MUMMIES. The mummies aren’t really doing anything, they’re just standing around your bed. What do you do?

First of all - this one is hilarious. Secondly… cry. Fun fact about me, if a zombie apocalypse were to happen, I would like to die, thanks! Don’t wanna deal with it, too scary and depressing. Anyhow - after crying, I would probably do the boring thing which is see if they react to anything, including movement and speech, and go from there. If no movement, J and I get up and leave and probably call my in-laws because they’re the real adults around here. 😂

Gonna attempt a Dimileth scenario for each one, for no reason whatsoever.

Too many beds: Byleth is visiting Fhirdiad and staying in the castle. Dimitri agonizes over which bedroom to assign her, wanting her to be close by but not wanting to seem too forward

Accidentally kidnapping a mafia boss: Byleth is a secret agent on a rescue mission, but she assumes mob boss Dimitri was the victim bc he seems so nice and rescues him. He thinks he's been kidnapped for ransom by a rival gang.

Really nice guy who hates only you: Dimitri has a visceral reaction to Byleth's blunt nature or thinks she's unemotional so he doesn't like her

Academic rivals except it’s two teachers who compete to have the best class: I mean this pretty much writes itself. Added flair, Dimitri is Byleth's former student out to prove how much he's grown
