Celebrating June 30, the equivalent date in FE3H Azure Moon route, when Dimitri rescued Claude at Derdriu.

6/30/2023. Clamp light used on tripod as fill light, in addition to phone camera's flash lighting. Roses used to cover figure support bases, but also to imply a rosy/romantic perception. I'm reluctantly trying to return to a habit of putting my watermark logo in the corner, after recently, when one of my older figure photos got broadly spread around without attribution. Used Krita to digitally erase some dust fibers from Claude.

Last Movie: I caught up with Mean Girls... in 2023, yeah. I can’t say I really liked it, but Regina is hilarious and I wish women of all ages watched that one teacher’s speech.

2022 in Review (Fandom Stuff)

This year was extra strange because I spent the first chunk of it extremely sick. However, I was still able to create a bunch of new fandom stuff (if slower than I used to), so I wanted to celebrate what I put out there in 2022 and share some links!

Fire Emblem: 3 Hopes

I did a lot of work with 3 Hopes behind the scenes this year, but the community's reaction to the game snuffed out most of my enthusiasm to go deep into lore analysis or to write any new fic.

The biggest thing I posted from this was all my meta about social perception per route as told by the NPCs, which can be found here on Tumblr.

Fire Emblem: 3 Houses

It's been slow-going, but I finally posted two new chapters to Viridian Sky: Wyvern's Flight this year, my massive fic set in Almyra after a joint route between Claude and Dimitri. The series as a whole has been renamed to Kingmakers. There are only two chapters left, and then the series will be more or less complete!

Looking to 2023

For Fire Emblem, my hope is to finish Viridian Sky at long last. The final chapters are fully outlined but unwritten. I don't plan to buy Engage at the moment, so I doubt I'll be writing much more fic for FE in general unless the community chills out with its release or I hop back to Fates.

For Daiya, I have a truly crazy number of fic ideas ready to go. I tend to be slower writing them since the audience is small and I struggle with that genre, but it's good practice! The things I'm currently most interested in writing are:

Continuing the "growing up as friends" AU (Friends, Rivals, and Baseball and Sick Day)

Continuing the "dad as unlikely friends" AU (Fathers and Sons)

Continuing The Long Road Home to the point where he actually meets Chris

A Chrismiyu Xianxia AU from Sawamura's pov that I have something like 19 pages of notes written for

Picking up one of my shifter or daemon verses again. Although I have lots of 'canon' ideas, writing fuzzy things is always relaxing.

At least one more adult work. I have a couple things in mind, but mostly on the slightly comedic end of the spectrum. Apparently, that's my favorite flavor for M+ works in Daiya.

Creatury 2023 day 8: kemonomimi dimiclaude.

I try not to post work-in-progress to my art blog, but this is "done" by my usual standards. And going beyond, to extra details, keeps getting postponed.

1/12/2023. So I've been working on this drawing since 1/8/2023. Started as an analog doodle in my sketchbook, then scanned, and have been using it to practice/learn how to work with vectors in Krita.

And I've learned a lot! I feel like I'm finally starting to get the hang of digital drawing!

---even though I still don't have a proper stylus. x_x; I can't see what I'm drawing behind my cheap stylus's giant nib, but using it whenever I can still saves my hand from pain. My laptop actually came with a stylus, but it uses AAAA batteries, that ran out, I can't find them at any of my usual stores, and I'm still a chicken about buying things online. x___x;;; I've never even bought anything from Amazon, to this day, for goodness sakes! x~x;;;;;;;

But my problem right now is that despite feeling proud of the progress I've been making, learning vectors and Krita, it's still not completely satisfying or fulfilling. I feel like I have a strange, unsatisfied itch in my hands from not drawing since 1/8/2023. I mean, what I've been doing digitally for the past few days should count as drawing, but my hand muscles feel like I haven't been drawing at all. Whatever I've been practicing, it's completely different from the need to draw that my hand muscles need.

So I've been considering ending this drawing at this state. Back when I decided to turn my analog doodle into a chance to practice digital drawing to my fullest extent, I told myself I'd practice all the details that I barely do anymore in my analog drawings, because I draw too small, I've been too focused on finishing a doodle everyday, I run out of time, etc. But drawing digitally allows me to make my tiny sketches large enough to add shading, highlights, and other details. So I wanted this drawing to be my chance to practice that. I wanted to be able to take my time, come back to a single drawing, multiple times, and really WORK it---adding onto it, adjusting it, modifying it, waiting for all my ideas to surface, instead of just rushing to get it done. But I don't know how much longer I can hold out not drawing in the way my hand muscles need.

But after writing that out, I guess the clear solution is to concurrently draw a bunch of analog stuff for my hand muscles, while keeping this digital drawing as a work in progress, until after I've added all those details I said I'd practice. I guess that's what I'll do.

Feel kind of bad for not posting it yet though. Because even at this state so far, I like it. But that's what I have my art journal blog for: work in progress pics and random art venting.

My calendar alarm said that June 30 was Dimiclaude Day, so I'm trusting that past me noted that correctly. Should be the date when Dimitri rescued Claude at Derdriu.

I'm out of practice, but the great thing about the classic "Dimitri envelopes Claude in his cloak" pose, is that most of it is just his cloak. lol

White Day is a holiday in Japan (and other Asian countries), where recipients of Valentine's Day gifts, are expected to give a reciprocal gift to their Valentines. It is exactly one month after Valentine's Day. Originally, gifts were marshmallows and white chocolate, but now gifts are a variety of items which are often white.

5/12/2023. Pencil and Daiso Water Colors. Cleaned up background and brightened Saturation in Krita.

Still practicing watercolors, so tried doing my final linework as only pencil. Sometimes I wonder if the softness of pencil fits better with watercolors. I still want to differentiate my watercolors from my marker/ink drawings. So I tried some wet-on-wet techniques and allowed a lot of messy imperfections.

But maybe I colored Claude's scales too high up his torso.

Still referencing the same glass teacup, I've had on my desk since drawing my "dragons and tea" set.

On my sketchbook page, he's looking at the same star as my previous day's Claude fanart. Because I must sneak in Dimiclaude wherever I can. Claude and Dimitri are in different locations but staring up at the same star. <3

Skipped drawing Dimitri's eyepatch strap across his forehead, because I don't like how it clutters up the lines for his eyebrow and eyelid, and makes him look angry. I wanted him to look wistful in this, not angry.

Creatury 2023 day 2: Claude and Dimitri mandrakes.

1/2/2023. Drawn in Platinum Preppy fountain pen, using Noodler's Ink. Colored with Copic markers and Daiso Fluently marker.

Came up with a whole dimiclaude fic idea, that'll probably just stay a headcanon, about mandrake-Claude and mandrake-Dimitri meeting during their pre-timeskip ages. Claude just appears, planted near Dimitri. They occasionally spend time outside of the soil, talking, or looking at stars, before re-burying themselves. Then during one of their dormant times of the day, Dimitri gets kidnapped by mandrake poachers. He spends years captive by a circus freak show type of group, until one day from his cage, he sees a hooded spectator peeking a flower out of his hood when they make eye contact. Apparently, Claude has spent years blending in with humans and tracking Dimitri down. He helps him escape, and they return to their mountain, far from any humans, re-planting themselves back into the ground to rejuvenate---this time, sharing the same hollow in the ground, so they can stay embraced. Then maybe later, because of their proximity, their flowers pollinate each other. But while Dimitri's flowers fruit, Claude's flowers are the type to create parachute seeds. Dimitri spends time outside of the earth, watching for Claude's seeds to sprout so he can catch them, instead of letting them fly far away. Then he plants Claude's parachute seeds and his fruit nearby. It's all very odd for Claude who comes from a type of mandrake that is accustomed to their offspring planting far away, but he indulges Dimitri and finds it actually kind of endearing. I doubt I'll actually write a fic; at the most I MIGHT get around to doodling a comic…but probably not. I almost couldn't keep up with this month's Creatury challenge already. ^.^;

Mermay 2023 days 1-7.

Cramming in 7 catch-up days of the MerMay mermaid drawing challenge, during the last hour of day 7. So I drew the fastest subjects I could: generic OC, chibi(?) Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, chibi(?) Claude von Riegan, an attempt at a non-chibi Claude von Riegan, Kirby, Moogle, and chibi Dimiclaude. I didn't know what else I'd draw besides Dimiclaude, but I have a Re-ment Kirby figurine and a pompom Moogle on my desk.

2/13/2022. Pilot Petit fountain pen using Monteverde "Charoite" ink. Colored with Copic markers, Daiso Fluently marker, and a Prismacolor Premier marker. Clean-up with Photoshop and a little white-out. Copic multiliner pen used on Dimitri's wings.

EDIT 4/6/2023 9:37PM: Replaced pic with version modified more in Krita. Fixed Claude's hairline and some overlapping on Dimitri's hair.

Now, I'm normally an articulated figure photographer, so I have to ask…How do you static scale figure collectors do so much photography with your static scales?????????????????????? So many times during this shoot, I just wanted to turn their heads a little, match up some sightlines, swivel some torsos, etc. Static scales feel so restrictive to me. x_x; But maybe I'm thinking too much about using the figures to tell a story that I want, vs just framing the figure using the inherent storytelling it already has. This shoot reminded me why I prefer articulated figures. lol
