But finally finding a complete copy of Tales Of Halloween and getting the classic Turbo Kid at the price I did was unreal and impassable. Finally managed to catch this one. Glad @hulu added this. We wanted to watch this in theaters but missed it, unfortunately. Synopsis: A couple, who live in total isolation, are visited by a strange man. From this point forward a series of events occur that turn their lives in to complete chaos. (Man that was hard to slim down) I give Mother! 7 skulls: 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 Wow! Where to begin with this movie. Well, I guess first off. This movie is not at all what I expected. This isn't a simple "Unwanted guest turns to Hell" story. There's a lot of underlying tones hidden within. I think this movie was lost on the majority of the audience, myself included. Its hard to talk about this film with out going full spoiler. All I can without giving too much away is, the acting is top notch. The atmosphere is beautifully chaotic. You empthize and put yourself in Her shoes almost instantly. But if you hear about a specific scene and think that's the whole purpose of this film. That's not correct. There's a point to that scene and that's not the whole movie. But please, let's talk. Do you guys want to have a full spoiler conversation about this? Or keep it under wraps. Saw the trailer to this one day while watching YouTube videos and it caught my attention. Really hoping that it's as intriguing as it looks. Synopsis: A young woman that relocated to a new job thinks the stalker she left behind hundreds of miles away has found her. But every time she sees him, it's nothing more than a her paranoia and fear. To cope with the fear and feeling of hopelessness she decides to contact a psychiatrist. She is then manipulated into admitting herself the care of the mental ward for observation. There she sees her stalker again, thinking he has found her and has somehow managed to become and orderly at the ward she is trapped in. Is her stalker really there watching her every move, or is this the delusions of her broken mind? I give Unsane 7 Skulls: 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 This movie was interesting. I found out online that it was filmed entirely using a cellphone camera. Which does give it a voyeuristic feel and helps make it feel unsettling. My only really issue with the film is it's predictability. I won't get into spoilers on this, but once you reach the half way point the film can really only go two ways. That causes the tension to drop some for me. The premise and acting are good. After hearing so much about how terrifying this film was, I of course had to watch it. Now of course fear is subjective, and I tried to walk in with no expectations other than to be entertained. So let's dive in. Synopsis: A young girl and her friends perform a seànce with a Ouija board in the basement of their school during a solar eclipse. Attempting to contact one the young girls deceased friends. But when paranormal events begin to happen the young girls become frightened. They see their friend, Verónica, contorting her body and the lights begin to flicker. Within hours after the events, Verónicas symptoms gets worse. She begins to see shadows and has strange dreams. Can she find out what's haunting her and fix the problem or is it already too late? I give Verónica 7 Skulls: 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 Not a bad film. As terrifying as some are saying, not for me. As I said before, fear is subjective. I've seen films that are downright wrong and some that were pretty damn scary. I personally feel that a horror film doesn't need to be scary to be good. As long as the plot and general sense of dread is present, I'm happy. With that said, this film did a great job in giving a feeling of dread. I felt for Verónica and her plight. The fact it is loosely based on true events makes this even more horrifying. After watching it I ended up looking up what events that actually transpired. I saw this last weekend and I'm glad I decided to watch this in theaters. It was very well done. So let's just get to it. Synopsis: A biologist and combat vet finds herself apart of a scientific team searching for answers in what they call The Shimmer. A rift located near a remote coast of the US. The government have been sending in teams for 3 years and no one has come out and no further information has been acquired, but in that time The Shimmer has grown in size. Is The Shimmer extraterrestrial, supernatural, or something much worse? As time runs out these are the answers they seek. I give Annihilation 8 Skulls: 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 First off I'm going to get this out of the way. So the reason Hollywood said they won't do a Black Widow movie (even though now they are) is cause we don't want to see movies with strong female leads. Fuck that! This movie proves otherwise. The majority of this film is told by women. It was a very strong film and told very well. I thought the overall plot and narrative was interesting. It breathed new life in a genre I won't name to prevent spoilers. The acting is top notch, the score is amazing, and the effects are damn impressive. The story leaves itself to interpretation and discussion, which I always love. If I can walk out of a movie wanting to talk about it days or weeks after then it's doing something right. Spoils Of War, WonderCon Edition Pt. 1: Been a while since I've posted one of these. @wondercon was awesome as always. We ran into the always amazing @catstaggsofficial and finally managed to pick up the NYCC edition of @stormkingcomics Tales Of A HalloweeNight Vol 1 amd Vol 2!! I've wanted these covers for years, still need to find a copy of Vol 3 and Vol 4 comes out this year!! I can't wait! Also found another Fear Itself issue I've been needing for my full event collection. And a copy of the new Phoenix. I'm hoping its good. Dark Phoenix/ Phoenix has always been one of my all time favorite characters. So I'm going to start a new thing this year. I'm going start doing more show reviews and hoping to have an open discussion about them. So for the first show, in choosing @actofdefiance at @brickbybricksd on 3/1. Sadly, cause of work. I showed up right before AOD started playing, so I didn't have a chance to see the support band @shatteredsun or any of the local bands. I did hear Shattered Sun did great though. For a venue, BXB is awesome. I've played here with my @panteraofficial tribute band, @trendkill_revolution, and also been here many times to watch bands. The place is great. Sound is fantastic and they even have a dedicated merch spot for bands. The drinks are good and the atmosphere is chill. I also have never been hassled for my wallet chain, which is nice. As for AOD. They played a great solid heavy set. Playing songs from both albums and keeping the energy high for their full hour set. Everyone in that band is flawless. Watching @chris_broderick_guitar effortlessly rip rapid riff and blistering solos is insane. Shawn Drover beating his drum set senseless all while not even breaking a sweat. All the while Matt Bachand keeping the pocket and keep the heavy during solo sections. Henry Derek screaming and singing in peoples faces (including my own) showing the emotion and aggression. I fully recommended checking them and this venue out. Hoping to catch them again with @thearmoredsaint! I walked in to this movie somewhat optimistic. The first one was such a powerful film in my opinion. From the writing, the acting, to the atmosphere. All of it was just unsettling. Let see if this movie lived up to its predecessor. Synopsis: A family of four are taking a quick family vacation on their way to drop their troubled teenaged daughter at a bordering school. As they reach the destination of a family owned trailer park recently emptied and abondonoed after Labor Day weekend. They soon realize they are not as alone as they thought. Soon after, bodies are found and the real nightmare begins. As the family are hunted and terrorized by three masked killers. Will they manage to survive or are they all already dead? I give The Strangers: Prey At Night a 5 Skulls: 💀💀💀💀💀 I walked in optimistic, and left disappointed. They took the premise and idea of the first and turned it into a soulless slasher flick. There wasn't enough time to care about the main characters and the killers are just as empty. I get the concept of being hunted and trapped by armed strangers as a horrifying experience, but overall this one felt flat. Should have left it as a single film entry. But what are your thoughts? Got this in the mail right before Xmas. Beyond excited and jazzed that I got this. I reviewed this for my 61 days of horror as well, and was fortunate enough to watch the 4K screening in the @thefridacinema theater. I know the overall review of the film won't change. This film is a damn masterpiece and a classic. But I'm really excited to dive in those special features. But as of now, the steelbook case and art are amazing and in love that Synapse Films added the original cover as a slipcase. If you all want me to, I'll do a review on this bluray release.
