If you ever feel like it/have the time could you please explain how you draw anthro/ digitigrade legs?

They way you draw them looks amazing and brain simply does not compute.

tyty🥰 sorry this took a hoT second to get too lmao, it's not exactly a process but rather a breakdown on how I go about thinking about and drawing them✨

So first u want to familiarize yourself with both structures, human and animal feet:

(using a dog's for now but use whatever animal you're taking inspo from in that moment💫)

..observe how they're similar and how they're different. Mammals have a lot of similar structures, just in different positions; we want to use that to our advantage and find a sort of happy middle~

((That first pic of the human foot standing flexed with the bones and stuff, is a very good reference for all this, actually! :>))

Then we look at the legs~

...just like with the feet, the legs have similar structures; but an important part to note when adding digitigrade legs on a humanoid body, is how the posture would adjust to the change. We stand flat on all our foot sole (toes to heel) and with straight knees; while dogs (and other mammals) stand just on their toes/phalange area and their knees are always at an angle.

So when we apply this to a human leg, we get that angled leg :>

Just to be clear, this was initially meant for realistic furry art but can be used with actual animals as well. And it doesn't apply to people who have art styles that gravitate towards "cartooniness", so don't feel pressured to follow the guide.

There is no one way to draw furries.

This was really fun, from the markings to the tail, I especially enjoyed experimenting with digitigrade legs for once! I'll have to draw this gorgeous being again sometime, because I've simply fallen in love with the characterization of this interpretation of Sam.

I’m making this schematic diagram thingy for vfvov!Mumbo’s costume (because I fukin’ love making picture diagrams for some reason, do not judge me) and I just realized how easy it would be to make those digitigrade legs

Well maybe not easy to make (if you don’t have metal or cables)- but very simple in concept. I mean you have the main two parts that connect the thigh and the calf, and then you have a cable to make sure these two things can actually more in a way that feels natural and gives weight to it as well as doing another thing that I can’t quite put into words?

And then you just the foot part, which for your actual foot you basically are just wearing a shoe without all the extra details. Like old leather shoes, almost, but with a bit more padding underneath. And then you just have the extension and the part at the end that acts as the foot. Which you can change the shape of. For instance something with a more curved foot almost like bowl would allow for more graceful movements or in some cases, likely agility

Then there are the foots that are hooked shaped kinda like the prosthetic feet meant for running. Which, logically, seems like it would probably allow you to run better

There’s also the more flat bottoms, which seem to usually be used when the stilt doesn’t go up to the thigh and only goes like half way up the calf. I imagine these would make walking in the stilts feel more natural, and would probably be easier to learn or get used to walking in

There’s also feet plates that are similar to the bowl but only go out in the front. Like a half bowl. Which I imagine would be a bit harder to balance in, but could potentially add height? Or at least let you stand up more straighter, I think

Anyway yeah this is all probably stuff other people don’t care about, and I know this is all really simple stuff, but I just haven’t thought about it until now and it just seems-

It’s so simple but so perfect. Y’know what I mean? It’s smart but also not, and I love it for that

My occasional artist side has finally returned!

Had a fun idea, a pair of humanoid cybernetic legs that fold out and transform into running blades, with a solid whiff of digitigrade! I started from right to left to figure out shapes and how they work (one day I'll do proper art learning and know anatomy) Tried out having the blade be attached to the calf via pistons to recreate the way that they're attached irl Landed on a sort of socketed cuff, emulating a joint to allow a simple rotation and making it *a lot* easier for me

I don't have any experience with prosthetics or running blades so, if anyone has criticism in that area, my DMs are open ^^

Hey, I saw how you drew toshinomu and I thought the digitigrade legs were super cool. I’ve been trying to draw digiti legs for awhile and was wondering: Do you have a tutorial you follow or something?

sorry im super late answering this but whatever lol

here's the basic logic i usually follow, it's not a rigid set of rules but this is what i've figured out on my own just from drawing digi legs so many times lol

also, whenever i need a reference or a way to think about it easier, i literally just wander around my home on my tiptoes, leaning forward like a dinosaur and think about how i use my legs in that way and it helps with logic when drawing digi legs lol
