For @surviveweek day 6: kemonogami, some mythological explanations for the kids’ partners.

Starting with Miu, for which this post was originally planned. It seems to cause a certain level of confusion that her partner goes from shellmon to mermaimon. You get three mollusks in her evo line (syakomon, shellmon and marineangemon) one mermaid and a dragon. Why is this?

Well, the change from shellmon to mermaimon is a reference to the sazae-oni (栄螺鬼, shellfish oni) who are said to be large, monstrous mollusks (shellmon) that form from turban snails and disguise themselves as beautiful women in order to trick men (mermaimon). The most popular legend involves sailors rescuing a beautiful woman and then getting tricked to exchange their gold for the balls the monster had stolen (seriously, kin-tama was the punchline). It’s clear here that these myths shares some similarities to common mermaid lore as well. 

Previously, I wrote about why qinlongmon for Miu, so I’ll just link it.

To cap this post, I’ll talk about the rest of the holy beasts. As the game points out, the Holy Beasts represent each one of the four cardinal points and are protectors of the digital kemonogami world, much like they were said to protect Kyoto. Their origin can be traced to the Chinese Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations, and the names of the holy beasts actually correspond to the Chinese names:

-The White Tiger of the west (Baihu) is said to be the king of the beasts and to only appear when the emperor ruled with absolute virtue. It’s also associated to Steel (one of the 5 Chinese elements) autumn and since it represents power and army, many things named after the White Tiger historically are related to military affairs. I really like this one for Aoi lol Ik the game proper didn’t do anything with it, but it could’ve been used as an affirmation of her role as their leader.

-The Black Tortoise (Xuánwǔ) is often depicted as a tortoise entwined together with a snake (this is reflected in Xuanwumon’s design, as well). It represents the North, Water and the winter season and is associated with longevity (tortoises and snakes commonly are). The Min people also had the custom of building turtle shaped tombs in order to gain the Black Tortoise’s favor. All of this makes for perfect symbolism for Saki’s struggle to stay alive. Addtionally, speaking in specific of Xuanwumon’s design, it has a world turtle vibe going that complements nicely to Ceresmon Medium’s fertile forest theme. 

-The Vermilion Bird (Zhūquè) represents fire, the summer season and the South. It’s said to be noble and elegant in both appareance and behavior, which... Suits Falcomon, if not Minoru. Although, Minorus aspirations are noble, so there is that.

-Additionally, the Yellow Dragon (Huánglóng) is also part of the Chinese five elements, representing the earth, the Center of the Universe and the changing of the seasons, much like the inner shrine is at the center of the island. In digimon lore, Huanglonmon is the Emperor of the 4 holy beasts, which reflects the mythology around the Yellow Dragon being the incarnation of the Yellow Emperor. This is fitting for Takuma being the heart of the group.

Combined AU

This is less of a story and more of a existing universe. This whole thing is a excuse for Ryou to continue existing. Also this is where it starts getting cringy and self indulgent so don't say I didn't warn you.

At some point while Ton is traveling between worlds in the realm of in between, he hears something calling for him and it leads him to a corridor of darkness. He find himself in the realm of darkness but keeps following the call, eventually finding a crack in space with a broken keyhole. He tries to repair it with his keyblade but an blast of energy from the keyhole stops him from completing it. When Ton opens his eyes he finds the keyhole and the crack gone.

The keyhole was from a Digital World that was shut down (aka my digimon au) and by disturbing the keyhole Ton had accidentally released some hearts from the world but it remained closed.

So now Ryou is released into the wild, wakes up somewhere and proceeds to be a menace across worlds, wanting to fight stronger foes and copying any weapons or skills he likes. Kyou was sent to the past and became the Player in KHUX. Instead of returning to the cycle he choses to sleep in the end, he eventually gets woken up by Quinn. Yura's location remain unknown. Belle also ended up wandering around worlds but doesn't get involved in as much as Ryou does. None of them knows that each other is alive at first.

Benni and Riyuu aren't the real Behemoth and Ouryumon, they're both created from the memories of Ryou and Kyou. The real ones are still stuck in the Digital world, even if they did escape they still wouldn't be humans. Ryou felt lonely and decided to create Benni to accompany him. Kyou subconsciously created Riyuu to protect him when he was on the verge of death in the Badlands.

Misaki was created by some hi tech government organisation in some world after they managed to cut of Ryou's arm. They used his DNA to make a clone with a piece of his sin in it and wanted to use his as some sort of military weapon. Belle later discovers Misaki and saves him from the organisation, also destroying it in the process and wiping all traces of Misaki from the world. Misaki wants to find his original asking Belle to help him buts she doesn't know where and doesn't want to know. Instead she gives him a red book that she found within the lab Misaki was in and leaves. Misaki uses this book to travel around the worlds.

Shadow would have died after he destroyed the Dark Mirror but Ryou managed to bind him to his maryoku before he fully disappeared. Shadow was suspicious of Ryou at first for keeping him alive as he though he was using him for something but Ryou told him he only wanted to have another traveling partner cuz he lonely.

Nio decided to follow Ryou after he beat her in a fight since she was bored of her world and wanted to devour more things.

Yes i "steal" some existing characters so they will hang out with me, the pinnacle of cringe. (ノ*°▽°*) Also Soul, Lavi, Gokudera and Hachimenroppi is there cuz I used to kin them but they don't really fit into any of this universe

I have to tell someone else online. So I haven't watched Digimon Last Evolution Kizuna yet, but Matt/Yamato is 22 in the movie. He was my first ever fictional love from when I was five, and the updated art style flatters him so well in his adult age. I know he has Sora, and he marries her in the future. Little me was not happy when I first found out. But if I end up in love with him again, there's no doubt I'd make an au where my self insert replaces Sora with the crest of love. She and I are both Scorpios and instead of making it seem like I'm entering the universe and stealing Matt away from her, I'm saving her the heartbreak (because I love her as a character) and putting my self insert in her place. In a way I kinda kin Sora. But I would like to get back in touch with my roots. ~Riley

Aww, Digimon! I’m not that familiar with the series I mean I watched a bit of it when I was younger but I wasn’t deep into it but I know the characters! Aww, that would be sweet though if you end up falling for your childhood crush again now that you’re both adults. I find it sweet. That’s sweet... That’s cool! I understand kinning a character who may canonically be with a character you have a crush on or is your f/o, sometimes it just seems to add to reasons why you’re so drawn to your love interest in the first place!

I'm mod Apple 🍎! They/them xe/xem/xyr preferred but I dont care too much. I kin from pokemon, mlp:fim, and half-life (and hlvrai) primarily but also from a few other games and a couple of podcasts. I also kin a few animals & space (and also the void specifically). Currently, I'm going to mostly be here for support/validation but I do want to also make icons and moodboards and things when I have time (I just have a lot going on right now). I have a pretty good range of media that I'm at least somewhat familiar with and I'm more than happy to read through wiki pages for things I dont know

I'm mod Strawberry 🍓! That thing/it. I'm happy to make things for characters from almost any media, but I'm especially happy to make stuff for TF2, Half-Life (and most parodies), The Mitchells Vs The Machines, and Don't Starve. I do edits (including pride icons, character sprite/screenshot edits) and drawings, though as a heads up I cannot draw animals realistically. but I am happy to draw human versions if given a description of what exactly you want it to look like!

I'm mod Orange 🍊! he/him, sol/sun. I like to do otherkin requests, as well as SCP, pokemon, minecraft (no villagers or similar), digimon, and others. I can do moodboards, stimboards, pride flag recolors/coining, self care/stim kits, drawings or doodles, etc.

My kins: I have three main ones,

Kokichi(danganronpa) trust issues and hiding behind a mask a lot

Mikado(sdra2) insanity(I'm not sure if I am but it's highly) and being a sadistic(a little bit)

The digimon emperor(digimon 02) depression(I'm not sure if I am but it's a highly possibility) and thinking highly of ourselves(I also throw myself down at times as well)

My possible mental problems: trust issues(100% positive), depression(80% sure), and insanity(80%sure). I won't go to a therapist tho so don't try to convince me to.

My hopes: to reality shift successfully. I will be going to danganronpa and find out why kokichi is the way he is. Reality shifting is 100% real and I believe in it. The universe will fill in what we don't know about the reality in question. So that means, what I find out about kokichi will be 100% cannon! Since the universe is filling that in, as well as for the sexualities and stuff. I say if you don't believe then reality shift yourself, if you don't believe me then you can fact check me if you like. I honestly really like kokichi and I hope I can find out about his past.
