So my roommate got me a thing...

It’s a Once a Day: Imagine Your OTP Calendar and it’s amazing. I love it so much I’ve decided to try and add each day to my taiyama blog to continue to add content and stay connected with the fandom <3. I just got it, so I’m starting with today’s date:

January 12th, 2021 - Imagine your OTP can time travel

This is such an interesting prompt because the more I think about it the more it highlights the differences between Taichi and Yamato. I really think Yamato would want to go forward in time while I think Taichi would want to go backward. 

I don’t think Taichi dwells too much on the past, he’s pretty focused on the present, but I could definitely see him wanting to experience past events in-person. He would love to go to that one football match when his favorite player scored that winning goal. Or wow wouldn’t it be neat to meet an actual knight or gladiator! And maybe he could research the most romantic places in history and take Yamato.... Oh yea, Taichi would be all about the past. He’d be open to visiting the future, but I think his own future stresses him out. So after trying out a hoverboard and a lightsaber he’d be ready to go home.

Yamato on the other hand would love the future. He wants to be an astronaut so our boy is at least a bit of a sci-fi nerd. And he’d want answers to all of the big questions so he can prepare himself and his loved ones for whatever is on the horizon. And don’t get me started on hoverbikes - even Taichi gets excited when Yamato challenges him to a race. I can just picture Yamato wandering the streets, listening to the music, observing the fashion, just melting into the background and taking in a time period he may never see otherwise. Sure the past is fine, but there’s no mystery - he can read about it - so the future is filled with excitement and discovery.  

But knowing these two, they would absolutely run into dangerous situations on the regular. And the funniest thing is that I can picture Yamato getting them into trouble in the past and Taichi getting them into trouble in the future. Yamato just wouldn’t be able to tolerate the culture of the past and would constantly be at odds with anyone they talked to, meanwhile Taichi would have the mindset that ‘none of this matters’ in the future because, Yamato, it’s the future, it’s not going to impact us.   

So yea, basically I’m relieved these two can’t time travel but it would make for some fun Dr. Who style shenanigans!

January 13th, 2021 - Imagine one member of your OTP is a professional athlete

Welp. This one was too easy. My headcanon involves Taichi being a professional athlete until retiring into politics. So I wanted to challenge myself a little and ask myself ‘What if Yamato was an athlete’.

Aw man. What would his sport be?? Yamato doesn’t strike me as a team-sport kinda guy or someone who wants to spend a lot of time outdoors, so that narrows it down a bit. A part of me really wants him to be, like, a competitive chess player or something more cerebral, but I think Yamato would love something that would be a creative outlet too. He also loves being on stage with his music...

Then it hit me: Yamato as a competitive pole dancer. 

Omg, as someone who has been pole dancing for two years now, I can say that Yamato would be great. I want to stress that anyone can pole dance, but Yamato has some natural advantages: being a musician gives him creativity, musicality, and grip strength, he’s got some nice, wide shoulders, and he would absolutely kill it in a pair of punk-inspired heeled boots. UGH I love it. He’d use a lot of punk/alt/rock music and just be an overall athletic badass. 

Now how will this impact taiyama. I think Yamato would keep this a secret for a while - it’s not something he really shares with people because it’s his thing that he does to look and feel amazing. But I imagine when they move in together it would have to be discussed since there’s a whole closet with his wardrobe and other training pieces. And Taichi would initially be supportive in the ‘hell yea, my partner is so hot’ kind of dude-bro way. But because Taichi is such an athlete himself I think he would eventually grow to respect the hell out of it as a sport. I can imagine him attending competitions to be supportive and meeting other polers and just being in awe the entire time. And everyone would just love this wide-eyed puppy of a man who is so impressed by everything. ‘Yama their tattoos are amazing’ ‘Yamato did you see how high they climbed?’ ‘OMG do you know the ab strength needed for - oh wait. Of course you do.’ ‘Yama that guy over there just bench-pressed me like twenty times!’. And oh man, when Yamato is performing, Taichi is front and center in his ‘I <3 Pole’ tshirt with the dopiest grin on his face because Wow. Everyone knows Yamato is sexy but he’s also so powerful and strong and confident, and whether its performing music or competitive pole, Taichi loves watching Yamato in his element.
