Part 1

Karina Sulzbach

Cw for substance abuse and suicide mention.

She/Her, Lesbian. Approximately 34 during the main events of fmab.

Karina was born in East City, inside a quite strict family. Her family, though having enough money to live, couldn't relax about the topic either, so she and her little step-brother had a bit more pressure than the average kid when growing up. She has a little step-brother because her father died after she was born, and her mother married another man some years later.

*Also since I love making up names: her step-brother's name is Lukas, her step-father's is Frederick and her mother's is Teodora. She's the only one with a different surname (she still has her biological father's one) the rest of the family uses Hoch as their surname.

Other than those details her early life was pretty happy and normal and she was loved by her family. She showed an interest in alchemy since she was a kid, learning by books and some relatives or friends of her family, reaching a great level at a young age. When she turned eighteen she joined military school, innocently thinking that she would be able to help people this way.

After military school she spent some years in the quarters of East City, years when she became an state alchemist (Water alchemist). There she met Roy, who quickly became a person of trust to her.

When the Ishval gen0cid3 started, she was sent as a state alchemist. Due to her water alchemy she didn't have roles as direct as other alchemists, but she did commit atrocities anyway that ended up swallowing her deep into guilt and self hatred. Still to today, that's a burden she swore she's never forget. She withdrew from the front lines in the middle of the conflict, with the excuse of not being of much use as a water alchemist in a desert.

The years after Ishval were hard for her, she was in an spiral between accepting and negating the consequences of her horrible actions and her own participation on them. She started drinking and smoking as a way to forget all the pain and death she caused. She thought about ending it all until Roy helped her out of that hole.

Karina trusted him, and after seeing his determination to become the fuhrer and make this country a better place for everyone, she started to accept the fact that she made horrible actions, but she could make better. It was a long way until reaching a healthier mental state, but now she feels like she can change something and do better, even if she'll never forgive herself for what she did.

Her personality now is quite calmer and a bit of a joker, but rather serious when needed. She still pressures herself so much to be a better person and to help people the way she couldn't back then. She still has a lot of trouble speaking out her problems and not damaging herself with alcohol. And she doesn't allow herself to do many pleasing things as a form of self punishment (not that that is good either).

She has a really good relationship with Roy, as well as a friendly rivalry when flirting (both jokingly say they could conquer more woman than the other), and a quite good relationship with Olivier (kind of a friendship??? Might be something more eventually??? Sorry for the self indulgence I want more Yuri)
