Carlos: You've been given a new job to do, but I'm worried it might make you angry. Diego: Just say it quick, like ripping off a band-aid. Carlos: You have to teach Mal how to drive. Diego: ...put the band-aid back on.

The Vally of the lost
This is basically my idea for a massive crossover of a lot of @toaverse au’s
Many of the casitas in different universes are interconnected and have ways of sharing memories
In most universes the madrigals are a good and loving family
Unfortunately in others some members are cruel and abusive
So some of the casitas who are forced to watch their favorite Madrigals suffer because of an entitled village and so called family members plan prepare and bide their time
This all comes to a head when one of the casitas collapses
It rebuilds itself in a world where non of the madrigals survived the raid and the Encanto does not exist taking its favored madrigals with it
The other casitas then abandon their worlds merging with the first casita and taking their madrigals with them as well
It’s pure chaos and confusion as everyone tries to figure out what happened
In the shitty Pepa au most of the family lost their gifts cause casita took them and then gave them to the family members that deserved it
The other casitas like that idea and copy it
They eventually calm down and start talking about their respective worlds and what it was like
Basically like a giant bonding/group therapy session
They all have some trouble at the beginning with expecting people to act like their counterparts but they work through it
Found family but it’s better versions of your actual family
The village gets started when yellow butterflies start leading refugees of la violencia to the vally

I fratelli Karamazov 1969 [EP1] - Fëdor Pavlovič's birthday and the arranging of a meeting
More than a month since the first installment, I bring you... another five minutes of Karamazovian drama.
part one | part two (you are here!) | part three
Some sparse notes before the translated transcripts start under the cut: 1. usual disclaimer that I'm not a professional, just an amateur, and am doing this out of pure insanity -- if you want to discuss translation related things or have some corrections, my inbox is open and your thoughts are welcomed <3; 2. I actually wanted to get to Smerdjakov and Ivan's scene with this bunch, but I belathedly realised that it was too much of a bulk for me to undertake at once, so I decided it would have to go with the next bulk of scenes -- it makes sense, Ivan's preparing fot Katya's soiree and next there will be Katya's soiree; 3. I've decided that, bar future requests and/or my change of mind, I'll proceed with the translation in the chronological order of scenes and when I'll be done with a whole episode I'd like to see if I can manage to submit this stuff to some of the people who've uploaded the episodes on youtube, so that non italian speaker peeps can enjoy them subbed -- or I might just upload them myself, I'll see, it's just an idea for now; 4. did I say I love the drama sets? because I do. Look how cluttered and lived in they look! 5. You might not spot him on a first watch, but Smerdjakov is present during the birthday scene! He keeps to the side in the first shot and you can only see him from the back, but he is there -- and yes, he has a bowlcut; 6. I've kept some speaking quirks in the transcripts -- the ehs, ehms, mmhs, and hics -- because I feel they help get a feeling of the character just as the bare stage directions do. Plus, in the case of Fëdor Pavlovič -- Karamazov sr. in the transcript -- really do drive home how he's trying to gaslight gatekeep girlboss his own sons; 7. the more I rewatch the more I want to bite Umberto Orsini.
A propos of actors, here are: Salvo Randone as Fëdor Pavlovič, Mark Hamill Carlo Simoni as Alëša Karamazov, Corrado Pani as Dmitrij Karamazov, Umberto Orsini as Ivan Karamazov and Antonio Salines as Smerdjakov.
Original script by Diego Fabbri, directed by Sandro Bolchi.
You can follow watch the drama here on YT or here on RaiPlay -- I suggest the latter, it's free and it's the original source, but youtube's still there if you prefer.
[INT. – AT THE KARAMAZOV’S/DINING ROOM] min. 5:54
(sounds of applause; the family is reunited around the dining table)
Karamazov sr.: Ah…! Grigorij, put it here.
(Grigorij leaves the birthday cake in front of Karamazov sr.)
Alëša: (is talking about the candles on the cake) This tallest one is the half century and these other six are the years: fifty-six!
Karamazov sr.: Fifty-six, eh? That’s right, and you think they’re too many, eh? – but you’ll see how I prove myself, look: I’ll blow them out in a single breath. (blows on the candles)
(more applause; Karamazov sr. laughs)
Karamazov sr.: (cont.) And now… I’ll have to cut this beautiful cake. Eh… it really is beautiful; and the biggest slice – and the most beautiful too, I’d say, look at this red candied fruit – the biggest slice I want to offer to my eldest son Dmitrij! Not because he’s the firstborn, no, I don’t care about these things, but to show him proof that I really don’t have anything against him… Dmitrij, I don’t have anything. I want to tell you today in the presence of your brothers; It’s so rare being together like this: one is always at the monastery, another is always traveling, already about to leave for Moscow – but I say, what is so entertaining in Moscow (laughs) that you don’t have here beside your loved ones… eh?
(to Dmitrij, sitting on his left) Here it is… (serves him the cake) here it is, and let there be peace between us, mh? Do you want to?
Dmitrij: Of course I want to – but let’s not talk about what’s dividing us, we might ruin the party and I… don’t want to. I hope you’re not thinking all will be quiet because of a slice of cake.
Karamazov sr.: (snorts) See! (slams a hand on the table) You heard him too, eh? You tell me, you all say if it’s me who doesn’t want peace… you say it.
Dmitrij: (gets up) I beg your pardon. (exits scene)
[INT. – AT THE KARAMAZOV’S/LIVING ROOM] min. 8:23
(Karamazov sr. is sitting in an armchair with Alëša on a couch by his side, Ivan is standing not too far from them. Smerdjakov is standing by a table near Karamazov sr., downs a glass of liquor – unseen by the others? – and leaves the scene)
Karamazov sr.: Now, I guarantee you – and I could show you legal papers, valuation of assets… everything, in short – that before the law I don’t owe a ruble more to your brother Dmitrij. What I owed him for his mother’s heritage was given to him, it’s on him if he dilapidated it. Hic!
Ivan: Let’s say that you’re right before the law and that no one could force you to give anything to Dmitrij… now I ask you if you really believe that you’ve given him everything in accord with the fair value of things: Dmitrij argues that you’ve robbed him like the worst of strangers, he argues that with the twenty-eight thousand rubles of the heritage you’ve gained, dealing with them, at least one hundred thousand.
Karamazov sr.: (grumbles) That was thanks to me, what does it matter? Eh! The net of the heritage was recognised as twenty-eight thousand roubles and I gave to your brother Dmitrij twenty-eight thousand roubles – not one less! My position is then clean.
Alëša: But do you think it right, father mine, to keep all the earnings made with his money?
Karamazov sr.: The law is on my side!
Alëša: Let the law be, Mitja knows too that on that side he won’t make one ruble more, and in fact he didn’t bring you before the tribunals – but it’s from the conscience, in this case, that you must let yourself be guided: Dmitrij is your son and you have to behave with him like a father… good and rightful.
Karamazov sr.: Here it is, here it is, the voice of the monastery! And I don’t want to shut my ears when my little seminarist is talking: come on, let’s hear it, what is that you have to propose.
Alëša: I don’t know, but it’s important that you don’t refuse Dmitrij’s requests as you have done until now; discuss them together and surely you will find a solution.
Karamazov sr.: Na-h! I’m telling you, my child, that the two of us – me and Dmitrij, I mean – won’t ever find any solution, because we’re cut from the same cloth, after all… we’re Karamazovs and we don’t want one to win over the other (he smiles slyly) that’s why… I forward a proposal that will surprise you.
Ivan: Let’s hear the proposal.
Karamazov sr.: I’m willing to put this matter in the hands of a righteous man that won’t be either on mine, nor on his side.
Ivan: And who would this man be, (with a harsh tone) does he exist?
Karamazov sr.: You’re wrong, Ivan, to speak like you do (gets up to get some liquor from a nearby table) – and with that tone! You’re wrong to not believe in a man’s justice anymore.
(to Alëša) What would you say, Alëša, if I’d propose as “other”, judge without appeal, your teacher?
Alëša: Father Zosima?!
Karamazov sr.: You said it. Let him decide – they say he’s righteous, no? They even say he’s a saint. Me, I don’t know, but you, my child, know him surely better than I do – me that, without being a miscreant, am still a great sinner. And so, would you like it? Father Zosima? Beh, what he’ll decide, after hearing our reasoning, will be done. I pledge to follow his verdict even if it’ll be entirely against me, I promise. Rather, do you think that your brother will accept?
Alëša: I hope so!
(to Ivan) What do you say, Ivan?
Ivan: It’s an idea…
(to Karamazov sr.) I see that you don’t lack imagination when you want to, not even generosity.
Karamazov sr.: (laughs) You’re surprised, eh? It's because you don’t know him, your old father! And you don't respect him – but I’ll show you, if we go up with Mitja to the sanctuary, I’ll show you!
Alëša: I’ll think about arranging the meeting!
Karamazov sr.: Good! You all come, eh, all of you, all of you, I want everybody to be there, you will only give me time and date and I’ll be ready like… like a humble pilgrim climbing to the sanctuary to receive grace.
(to Ivan) And you mustn’t miss it! Even if you lack faith. Eh… I know, I know that you don’t believe in God anymore… a father understands everything; but you have to be there too, as… as a witness, eh? Would you like to? Be a witness?
Ivan: I’ll be there, don’t doubt it. (exits scene)
Karamazov sr.: (to Smerdjakov, who came near him bringing a lit candle, with a complaining air) Why did you want to break this atmosphere… it was so good in the dim light, you couldn’t see the faces – and it was better – now, instead…
Smerdjakov: I lit them up because it was time, Master–
Karamazov sr.: (angry) It has to be me to say it, when it’s time! Remember it, another time.

Transformers: Mosaic #477 - "Strength & Honor"
Originally posted on April 22nd, 2010
Story, Letters - Carlos Oliveros Art - Iván Mas

wada sez: Per deviantART, this was actually a test for an IDW comic featuring Overlord! IDW didn’t do anything with it, for obvious reasons. I’ve decided to serialise it here for the archive, as it’s basically an extension of Mas’ and Oliveros’ work on “Human Component”. I’ve included various bits of commentary from Mas, from various bits of ancillary artwork.
Tumblr media
Well, here are some designs I did for an acquaintance who had a project related to this character and that will be rotting in some drawer in San Diego.. to the detriment of other things that are being edited.... say...... different........ is what there is........... a shame, because the thing looked pretty good.
In fact I think I like this person quite a lot how he does things, he has good and clear ideas, projects that are more than interesting and he is serious.
About Overlord... oof! what a great character! his toy seems to me one of the best that were released in the Transformers line, very playable, with many possibilities.
Let's see if I can put the complete "base" mode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well.... here is a scene that recreates a little bit the chapters of Masterfroce in which Ginrai is defeated by Overlord and in some way the duality that the character has due to its human components...
I really would have also liked to show the previous battle... but... everything can't be.... even so, it wasn't bad at all, although it is true that once finished I would have preferred to change the second panel, or add some other....
It didn’t turn out all bad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a panel for a Mosaic about Overlord, which also at the time served as a pitch for an IDW project about this character. In the end, the project was dismissed because he was a Japanese character, and they claimed that he had no market in the US because he wasn't a well-known character.
Tumblr media
For a project that I imagine IDW would have discarded, because it's not very much in the editorial and sales line they have.
It's always fun to do this kind of things... don't look too much at the drawing itself, the anatomy is not right, I corrected it, I have a file with a good drawing. I focused basically on the shapes and details of the armor. There are also some perspective errors etc... but well, for what I was interested in, I didn't care.
In any case I wanted that the aspect of these armors had a somewhat different look from the rest, those of Giga and Mega are more threatening, they look more organic, they are more violent, perhaps more exaggerated and lavish, as they spend almost all the time in an underwater base, I thought that perhaps it would be good that they had the aspect of a crustacean or something like that.
I eliminated the exaggerated spikes on the forearms, they are uncomfortable to draw and neither functional nor anatomical, but I replaced them with smaller ones and for more quantity respecting the spirit of the character, the ones on the shoulders, I had to keep them, they were too characteristic.
In any case it is an armor with a lot of detail, it was a challenge to draw it in each vignette, but well, I don't know what was more complex if it was the challenge of doing the intricate and complex script or the realistic and detailed drawing. But it was worth it. You would have liked it...
It's cool, the basic shapes are very similar to the old design, the basics are kept, here Giga appears without a helmet, the helmet was intended to be retractable, that somehow was collected behind, and when he wanted to start to pile up many pieces around the face to form the helmet.
So nice. maybe now that I will have a few days with time, I will dedicate myself to draw the whole scene where this man appeared in this pose....
Tumblr media
One of the designs for the Masterforce series that I prepared and that has not been carried out. I tried to respect the original design as well as the outlandish colors as much as possible "correcting" some things that actually, were not quite right.
A little bit of quick color to have more or less clear the range, and ... the cape is an original creation, I think it simply looked good and brought that majestic air that the category of the character has in the original series. I thought that maybe like the helmet, it could simply be retractable and ready.

CJ Hook being a disaster narrator:
So, yeah, there are the Badun cousins in the Hell Hall, helping Carlos de Vil prepare it for the party, which my siblings won’t let me attend for some unfathomable reason. I mean, come on! It has a chandelier swing!
Come on, Harriet! Harry! Say something!
…And they are too busy to even notice. Rude, if you ask, but fair. At least they won’t notice me sneaking away.
Wow, they don’t even notice me saying this. But hey, Harriet is too preoccupied daydreaming about Anthony, and Harry is too busy on Lost Revenge, as Uma comes home soon. The ship is almost prepared, anyway, and the fairy lights shine in the night. Speaking of which – fairy lights!
„Shut up, CJ,“ Harry says distractedly, looking out into the port for Uma as if he didn’t know full well she is still closing up. Washing the dishes now, isn’t she?
„Shut up.“
Tell me more about the fairy lights, though.
„Oh, don’t you have a plot to narrate? As you volunteered?“ Harry snaps at me and snags a bottle of alcohol from Gonzo: I make a face at him, as he doesn’t even have the decency to wait for Uma to start drinking.
„The bloody plot?“ he makes a face at the cheap rum.
Well, I would be way more interested in narrating that if I were allowed to go to that party, wouldn’t I now?
„Shut up, CJ.“
That was Harriet, for a change. She has finished her hair and makeup and is wearing half-a-treasurly worth  of jewellery. Good for her, and I hope Anthony notices.
„Well he better,“ she murmurs, and don’t worry, Ettie, if he doesn’t appreciate you, we can always just kill him! Which would be way easier if I were already at the party, you know?
She tells me to shut up again and to watch my mouth and that she isn’t changing her mind and Harry just cackles. Bummer.
Make sure to take some photos for me, Ettie, since, you know, the Baduns just put up a photo booth?
And hey, Carlos is calling Diego right now, and how did the de Vils get working phones?!
It’s all so unfair!
„Don’t know and don’t want to know,“ answers Harry, despite the fact that no one was asking him, and, oh, they are radios. That would make more sense. I still want one though! So I could call Freddie any time I want!
„I’m sure she’d appreciate that,“ notes Harriet dryly, and, why, yes, she would!
And hey, Harry, did you decide if the de Vil cousins are going to the Hell Hall party yet or nah?
„Well, that depends on all kind of things, doesn’t it now?“ he says, and allow me to translate that for you: He means that it depends on Uma and Uma only.
„If you don’t stop right now, I will come over at Hope and tie you up to the mast for the rest of the night.“
Yeah, I’d like to see you try that. You’d never catch me.
Anyway, Carlos is, like, calling Diego if the Rotten Apples wanna play tonight?
Harriet notes that they better, since they make the only passable dance music on the Isle, which, fair enough. We want her date with Anthony to go well, don’t we?

Daniel Giménez Cacho in Zama (Lucrecia Martel, 2017) Cast: Daniel Giménez Cacho, Lola Dueñas, Matheus Nachtergaele, Juan Minujín, Nahuel Cano, Mariana Nunes, Carlos Defeo, Rafael Spregelburd. Screenplay: Lucrecia Martel, based on a novel by Antonio Di Benedetto. Cinematography: Rui Poças. Art direction: Renata Pinheiro. Film editing: Karen Harley, Miguel Schverdfinger In her New York Times review of Lucrecia Martel's Zama, Manohla Dargis suggests that we should see the film, then read the novel by Antonio Di Benedetto, and then see the film again. That's a little more work than many of us are prepared to put into our movies, but it gets at one central fact about Zama: It's a brilliant movie, but appreciating it -- perhaps even comprehending it -- demands a viewer's attention. Just figuring out who Zama is takes a little effort: When we first see him he's striking a kind of heroic pose on the seashore, but his life is anything but heroic. Don Diego de Zama is a magistrate in a backwater of the 18th-century Spanish colonial empire, somewhere in Argentina. The place is a kind of hell-hole, the sort of colony where the settlers constantly badger the officials for help in getting native laborers, the ones they once had having either escaped or died from overwork. Zama wants to escape, too, to return to his wife and children, or at least to be transferred to a better place, but bureaucracy stymies him constantly. Eventually, he agrees to go on an expedition to capture a notorious bandit, but that doesn't end well. It's a scathing, often funny, eventually tragic portrayal of colonialism, and Martel is unwilling to let Zama's story take a predictable course. The land, the New World environment, is too much for the people trying to tame it. The randomness of existence in this outpost is captured by a beautifully absurd moment when Zama is trying to deal with a recalcitrant superior and a llama wanders into the frame, peering with a blankly benign gaze over Zama's shoulder, mocking his serious mien. Rui Poças's cinematography superbly captures both the beauty and cruelty of this inhuman landscape.

From classroom to nature: this is how 100,000 primary school students in Spain will begin classes with an environmental focus
Tumblr media
The Naturaliza project, by Ecoembes, promotes environmental education in centres in a transversal way to their subjects, going out into the environment and learning from it.
In Pedrosa de Valdeporres[1] (Burgos), Vera de Diego works with a small group of 14 students from three to 12 years old. She teaches in the Kindergarten and the first and second years of Primary, while the interim who arrives at her school each year (always someone different) takes care of the rest of the grades, up to sixth grade. In the classrooms of the Rosa Chacel Rural Grouped Centre, using the natural environment comes as standard: “Inevitably I have to use the environment, because it has been given to me. Instead of using the book to see the topic of photosynthesis, or the fall of leaves in autumn, one works on it outside, because the environment invites you to do so (...). The possibilities of exploration, discovery, movement, new skills... There are children who, when they are in the classroom, behave in one way and outside in another. It is very interesting and very beautiful to see.”
Its centre is one of the 1,300 schools in Spain that are part of the Naturaliza[2] network, an Ecoembes[3] initiative that aims to promote environmental education in schools in an interactive and transversal way to subjects such as Mathematics, Language and Literature, Social Sciences and, therefore, of course, Natural Sciences. At the beginning of the course, there are already 2,200 teachers who have been trained through its platform, and some 100,000 boys and girls who, thanks to this, will learn about such important aspects as drought, biodiversity, deforestation, climate change, pollution or garbage.
“It is about introducing the environment into the classrooms, but also about bringing the classrooms out into the environment, in a bidirectional way. [When we started] we found children who were very unnaturalised: very technological, yes, with a lot of language, but environmentally orphaned in many schools in Spain,” recalls Nieves Rey, Director of Communication and Marketing at Ecoembes. “Children are increasingly further away from nature; they no longer go to the mountains, they don't go to the park... Technology practically covers everything,” she adds. But at the same time they also saw that there were many teachers who were interested in going beyond the typical recycling workshops, and this motivated them to launch the initiative.
Learn in the natural environment
The objective is to study and learn from the environment, but always in a natural way, “without shoehorning it in,” says Rafael Carlos Falcón, tutor and 4th grade teacher at the CEIP Lope de Vega from Ceuta: “To integrate environmental education, it has to be developed in a globalised way, rather than compartmentalising each subject. The student has to work on an environmental topic and needs to use all those contents in order to reach the result you would like to obtain." In their case, and given their geographical location (it is the area of Europe where the most sea turtles are rescued, "especially the loggerhead, green and leatherback turtles"), it is subject to work precisely with these animals.
"In class we have worked as a team, preparing and doing interviews, researching turtles, going to see them and presenting the results in class, in addition to taking advantage of that day to go to a beach and collect waste." Another of the activities in which he has involved his students (this jointly with another centre) is the knowledge of the rural environment through hiking, taking advantage not only to study the plants but also, for example, history, thanks to the presence from a fortress on Mount Hacho[4], where he usually takes his students. Thanks to the Ecoembes initiative, Falcón (who also has a YouTube channel, El mundo a contraluz[5], which he regularly uses with his students) has learned to program with an environmental focus, since, although they work by subject, many things are done transversely.
“Why not study, in Mathematics, a problem of climate change, where the statement is already talking about climate crisis? Or, for example, when studying the human body and the respiratory system, why not also explain to them that there are problems with air quality?” Rey asks. “With just a small twist,” he explains, “very powerful messages can be introduced; not only in Natural Sciences.” Studying the water cycle, for example, can give rise to addressing the issue of drought: “Let's not isolate it, let's give it a point of reflection. Let's not only talk about the condensation cycle; Let's also talk about why, so that learning does not remain powerless. It is very good to know how clouds form, but we must know the problem of the drought that we are going to have in many countries, due to the lack of water (...). Without environmental education there is no possible progress,” he adds.
Asterix, Obelix and a Celtic hill fort
Environmental learning is often linked to Service & Learning (SAP)[6] projects such as those being developed in Pedrosa de Valdeporres. There, the small group of CRA Rosa Chacel[7] takes advantage of the environment not only to talk about aspects such as recycling, plastics or caring for the environment. Two years ago, without going any further, they developed one of these ApS initiatives: “We wanted to use the medium to do research on the Celtic fort of Brizuela[8], with the help of a former student of the school who is a historian. We linked the natural with the social and with the history of the town, and we launched the project “The children of Astérix and Obélix lived in Valdeporres”[9].” They took the book of Asterix, set in 50 BC, and related the history of the Celts who lived there with the last Cantabrian wars. Because there were also some Cantabrians who resisted, like the famous Gauls in the comics against the Roman invader, in 19 BC.
“The kids made a comic, we visited the Celtic fort, we invited the entire community and we made some informative posters that we put up in all the towns in Merindad, so that neighbours and tourists knew the history (…). What I saw as a teacher is that it is not only the environment that gives us satisfaction; The town also offers many things. People have a lot of wisdom and I think it is very important that, from school, we teach children to know, value and care for their environment, so that they can love it. So that, when they go out to continue studying abroad, they have that connection with the rural environment and value it,” explains De Diego.
Last year, the project they developed from the centre consisted of planting native trees. To do this, the boys and girls had to investigate by asking parents, grandparents and town residents about their habits and customs; where did those trees come from? What was their habitat, what animals live in those areas... “When investigating, children have to write it down or, if they are very young, draw it. And then they have to share it with their classmates, so they also practice oral expression,” says the teacher. Now, to continue developing the project, posters with a QR code will come that carry the research sheet that the students have done, so that people who walk by or go to the plantation can consult it.
Tumblr media
Thanks to their participation in Naturaliza, both them and the rest of the 2,200 registered teachers have access to a library with more than 2,000 free educational resources, “which help them bring the little ones closer to caring for the natural environment in a practical and enjoyable”, they point out from Ecoembes. From garbage to the school's environmental footprint and how to measure it to energy saving campaigns or activities related to responsible and local consumption, among many others.
Teachers who, like them, want to participate in this initiative have at their disposal a virtual platform with a 15-hour micro-training that they can complete at the pace they need, and which is organized around four thematic blocks: global change, human footprint, sustainability and active methodologies. A training that, De Diego recognises, teaches teachers to program with a broader vision and encourages them to ask themselves questions and “study, for example, the services that the environment provides, now to us and then to the Celts; the pros and cons; industrialisation; the globalisation; pollution... Before they lived with what they had and there was no plastic or pollution, nor did things come from China. By making all this reach the kids, you are giving them not only environmental education, but also social and consumer education....”
Why is environmental education so important?
“I always say that our home is our planet. I see that there is a lot of defence of the environment, but many times they are a bit for show, superficial things. It has to be something that the child internalises, and incorporates into her habits,” says Falcón. Before arriving at the centre where he currently teaches, he belonged to the management team of another school that was converted into an eco-school, even though at that time the network of eco-schools did not reach Ceuta. The objective of this type of centres is (among others) to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve a more sustainable educational environment in all areas, working with boys and girls in concrete actions that involve their own community and that help them understand the impact that human action has on the environment. This initiative, which began in Spain in 1998, already involves 579 centres in 15 autonomous communities and the autonomous city of Melilla[10] (and, internationally, 59,000 centres in 68 countries).
How far can you go? ? “It is about, like others did, when technology and languages began to creep into the lives of our children in schools, we can reach that level. Why not? I would love it to be like this, the children would be much more reflective and much more aware,” says Rey, who emphasizes the need for this type of education to be developed throughout the students' entire educational career. “What happens is that we have primary school boys and girls who are very aware, but then they get to secondary school and lose it. They know it because they have studied it, but you notice a certain disaffection towards other topics,” he adds.
Another of the projects that Ecoembes leads is, for example, the Libera Classrooms[11], in which secondary school students sponsor a natural space, collecting trash and keeping it clean.

Liga MX vs MLS, a never-ending and inevitable comparison
Liga MX vs MLS, a never-ending and inevitable comparison
We compare the past and the present mostly with the intention of seeking a better future. In North American soccer we often compare between Mexico and the United States, about how this rivalry affects the future of their national teams and which league is better, Liga MX or MLS.To get more news about Liga MX México, you can visit futbol-mx.com official website.
Atlanta United traveled to Mexico for a 13-day preseason in Guadalajara, where the team will play three scrimmages against Mexican opposition, Celaya FC on Sunday, Feb. 6, and Chivas de Guadalajara and Tepatitlán FC on Sunday, Feb. 13. The club was greeted Wednesday morning by the US Consul General in Guadalajara, Eliza Al-Laham, and executives from Club Atlas, where the team will train these next two weeks, and during a press conference with club President Darren Eales, VP and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra, and Head Coach Gonzalo Pineda, the comparison between Liga MX and MLS was inevitable.
“It is very difficult to talk about a league that I no longer follow so closely and that is why I cannot compare how things are being handled in Mexican soccer, but what I can say is that MLS is a league that has a plan in the short and long term that is giving it immediate results,” said Pineda during the press conference. "I don't dare make a direct comparison because I haven't followed the insides of Mexican soccer for a long time, and [in Mexico] maybe you feel the same way because you might not fully know what MLS is about, so it's difficult to make such a comparison.”
Since Atlanta United entered MLS in 2017, it has always had a close connection to Mexican soccer, especially in recent years. Atlanta has had Mexicans players like Jürgen Damm and Érick 'Cubo' Torres on its roster, as well as others who have played for Liga MX clubs like Édgar Castillo and Greg Garza. Likewise, other MLS clubs have brought in Mexican stars to their ranks, such as Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández, Carlos Vela, Rodolfo Pizarro, and Carlos Salcedo, among others.
However, in Mexico it seems as if MLS is still not as attractive as Liga MX and is yet to break into the mainstream soccer fan.
“I don't fully know the perception here. I do not think everyone in Mexico thinks that a player goes to MLS just to make money. Many players when they go to the US realize that it is a fairly even and competitive league, with many drawbacks such as weather changes, time changes, long trips, and things that help you evolve as a player and prepare for when you go to Europe,” added Pineda. “You have to speak other languages, live with people from other cultures, have many competitions within a year, understand about marketing, talk to the press and perform both on and off the pitch. There are many nuances that will allow a young player with a sharp vision to look at MLS with good eyes.”
The connection between Atlanta United and Mexican soccer has remained strong with the club's current coaching staff, in part, consisting of three former Mexican league players, Pineda, Diego de la Torre and Eugenio Villazón. In addition, the Head Coach of the Mexican National Team, Gerardo 'Tata' Martino, assumed his current position following two seasons in Atlanta, where he became the first Latin American coach to win MLS Cup.

State health officials now involved in outbreak at local schools
The San Diego County Health & Human Services Agency says it is now working with the state health department to respond to outbreaks of flu-like symptoms at Patrick Henry and Del Mar high schools this week.
Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the county's deputy public health officer, said about 40% percent of students at those campuses stayed home on Wednesday, the most recent day for which he had data. Some preliminary tests on students were positive for influenza A.
"It is important to note, though, the state is already involved with this. We certainly reported it up to them. I’m sure they’re discussing it with their federal partners," Kaiser said. "Right now, though, this is occurring against a baseline of something that we expected to happen, and that’s why we want people to be prepared."
Kaiser warned that the current outbreak isn’t limited to these high schools, but said school outbreaks were more noticeable because administrators monitor attendance.
"If you’re going to see a large number of people sick out in a geographic area, you tend to see it hit the schools first," he said, "not because it’s not occurring other places, but that’s simply those are the ones keeping the closest tabs on statistics."
The county says the flu is already spreading quickly in the community, and is only going to get worse. So officials are urging everyone to get their flu shot — especially people who are more vulnerable.
"Across the county we’re seeing a large number of influenza cases in some of the largest counts we’ve ever seen for October," Kaiser said. "This is important for folks to realize that, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck, and we already expected that it was going to to be a bad flu season. And everything is clicking into place."
Dr. Teresa Hardisty, a Sharp Rees-Stealy pediatrician, told KPBS that influenza A is particularly hard-hitting. She said that, after a couple of years of pandemic precautions, not everyone's immune system is ready for it.
"The natural immunity in the population has gone down, and influenza has not really circulated that much," Hardisty said. "And so people are coming in with high fevers, serious cough, feeling achy and low fevers. Usually with influenza the fevers last for four or five days, and they can be as high as 104 or 105, so people are very uncomfortable."
Hardisty said the flu vaccine gave the body a "prewarning," so, if someone gets the flu, they have a milder case.
"[The flu] rages through the community, so I think that if you can decrease the level of illness by having the vaccine prior, I think that is an important critical way for you to protect yourself and also minimize the chance that you might spread influenza A to somebody who might has lower natural immunity," Hardisty said.
She said she had seen the worst cases in medically fragile babies, children under the age of 1, and children with asthma and other conditions. She urges parents to get children vaccinated if they’re old enough. And, she said, "I would recommend to be more cautions with exposure in large indoor groups [and] in communities that have current outbreaks."
When that’s not possible, she said masking was possible for older children, and advised parents to talk to their doctors about medications that can protect their children.
And for people who are sick, she said, plenty of rest and healthy foods are key to getting better. *Reposted article from KPBS by Kitty Alvarado & Carlos Castillo, October 14, 2022

Saint Junipero
In 1776, when the American Revolution was beginning in the east, another part of the future United States was being born in California. That year a gray-robed Franciscan founded Mission San Juan Capistrano, now famous for its annually returning swallows. San Juan was the seventh of nine missions established under the direction of this indomitable Spaniard.
Born on Spain’s island of Mallorca, Serra entered the Franciscan Order taking the name of Saint Francis’ childlike companion, Brother Juniper. Until he was 35, he spent most of his time in the classroom—first as a student of theology and then as a professor. He also became famous for his preaching. Suddenly he gave it all up and followed the yearning that had begun years before when he heard about the missionary work of Saint Francis Solano in South America. Junipero’s desire was to convert native peoples in the New World.
Arriving by ship at Vera Cruz, Mexico, he and a companion walked the 250 miles to Mexico City. On the way Junipero’s left leg became infected by an insect bite and would remain a cross—sometimes life-threatening—for the rest of his life. For 18 years, he worked in central Mexico and in the Baja Peninsula. He became president of the missions there.
Enter politics: the threat of a Russian invasion south from Alaska. Charles III of Spain ordered an expedition to beat Russia to the territory. So the last two conquistadors—one military, one spiritual—began their quest. José de Galvez persuaded Junipero to set out with him for present-day Monterey, California. The first mission founded after the 900-mile journey north was San Diego in 1769. That year a shortage of food almost canceled the expedition. Vowing to stay with the local people, Junipero and another friar began a novena in preparation for St. Joseph’s day, March 19, the scheduled day of departure. On that day, the relief ship arrived.
Other missions followed: Monterey/Carmel (1770); San Antonio and San Gabriel (1771); San Luís Obispo (1772); San Francisco and San Juan Capistrano (1776); Santa Clara (1777); San Buenaventura (1782). Twelve more were founded after Serra’s death.
Junipero made the long trip to Mexico City to settle great differences with the military commander. He arrived at the point of death. The outcome was substantially what Junipero sought: the famous “Regulation” protecting the Indians and the missions. It was the basis for the first significant legislation in California, a “Bill of Rights” for Native Americans.
Because the Native Americans were living a nonhuman life from the Spanish point of view, the friars were made their legal guardians. The Native Americans were kept at the mission after baptism lest they be corrupted in their former haunts—a move that has brought cries of “injustice” from some moderns.
Junipero’s missionary life was a long battle with cold and hunger, with unsympathetic military commanders and even with danger of death from non-Christian native peoples. Through it all his unquenchable zeal was fed by prayer each night, often from midnight till dawn. He baptized over 6,000 people and confirmed 5,000. His travels would have circled the globe. He brought the Native Americans not only the gift of faith but also a decent standard of living. He won their love, as witnessed especially by their grief at his death. He is buried at Mission San Carlo Borromeo, Carmel, and was beatified in 1988. Pope Francis canonized him in Washington, D.C., on September 23, 2015.
