Love is a weird thing but so are the conditions that come with it; the limits that people decide need to be in place. You understood boundaries or not wanting to take too many steps before you knew the relationship would hold but some things never sat right with you. It took a few years but it wasn't until you overheard some of your project group talking that it finally hit you; most people you knew didn't want to date their best friends for two reasons.

1. It could ruin their friendship. This reason was obvious and of course you understood.

2. They'd seen way too much.

You remember hearing those words and your head lifting, confused and wondering what that could even mean. When you were in a relationship that would eventually progress, weren't they just going to see those things anyway? You never could let that thought go, not once you decided that would only make it better; it would make a relationship stronger. Well, in your eyes.

Dating was something that seemed to come easier to you before those thoughts started polluting your mind; no one seemed to understand or see you in a way you really wanted. The ideal person for you was someone who saw everything; the bad days, the good days and the maybe okay but not so great days. It was really starting to mess with you. By not wanting to date certain friends, were you restricting yourself from the relationship you really wanted?

Only one person, one friend, knew you better than you knew yourself, you were positive of that. Your best friend of nine years, Junhee, had probably been through almost every bad thing possible in life with you. You began recalling all the situations you'd been in with each other that were memorable; the things you wouldn't have faced with anyone else because you didn't want anyone else to see.

'Do you remember when you got your belly button pierced?'

And that's when it began.

The question came out of nowhere, breaking the silence of your apartment and leaving Junhee to look up from his book confused and blinking. 'Uh.. yes?' His response came out slow, hesitant like he was missing some weird in-between the lines meaning of the question.

Your head tilted, finally looking over at him. 'Do you remember the way you squeezed my hand to the point it was purple because it hurt so bad you nearly passed out?'

His features flushed at the ridiculous memory being forced back into his head. 'You mean the same day you had to cling to me, crying because your first tattoo felt like your leg was being seared off?'

You hated crying in front of people for any reason but you couldn't go alone; you'd never go alone for something like that. You just nodded in response before returning to your own book, continuing to read like you hadn't brought the subject up at all.

Your first date after you began recalling things and getting far too deep in what could only be sentimental thoughts went okay. A friend of your friend's, Sehyoon, who was an art major and knew of you but didn't know you; he'd never really integrated himself into the small friend circle on campus but Byeongkwan spoke highly of him.

He was sweet; a gentleman. Pretty much anything you could really ask for but you noticed little things; minute things that didn't even matter. You felt like you were being unreasonable or judgmental despite only picking out things that didn't match. Didn't match what, exactly?

He wasn't Junhee.

The realization had you suddenly shooting up from your seat, interrupting the poor male's answer to your question about his major and spilling out several apologies as you even fought to put money down for your own food. It took quite a few more 'I'm really sorry's before you were speeding out of the small restaurant; you'd make sure to call him later.

You found yourself in the only place that made sense: banging hard on the door of the RA for your building, hardly caring if you disturbed anyone else.

'What?' was the greeting you received from a very frustrated Donghun, wanting nothing more than to be left alone again. And yes, you called each other your friend.

'We have a really, really big problem.'

Being a mutual friend and despite not wanting to get involved in anyone's "drama", he spent two hours talking you out of it, down from it and against it, reminding you just why your newfound feelings for your best friend were a problem. He even reminded you of your comment, three years ago, about how you could never possibly like Junhee; how he remembered that and you didn't, you didn't care to ask.

You returned home a wreck, tired and wanting to burn your own emotions. Were you really uncovering some unconsciously buried feelings or did you just like the fact that he /saw/ you? He'd seen you nearly on your deathbed sick.

He'd seen you living in a depression nest for two weeks, barely able to get out a bed and eating nothing but honey buns and cereal.

He'd seen you grieve family members and pets; seen you walk into the rain and scream at the top of your lungs because of how lost in despair you'd been.

He'd seen you drunk and stupid; he'd seen you the night after a one night stand and hungover to the point you wanted to fight the sun.

He'd sat by you absolutely throwing your guts up.

He had seen every single side of you and you'd seen the same from him but it only started to stack further and further.

You knew his favorite songs because God forbid he only have one. You knew his favorite color, favorite food and his weird retirement plan that involved a tiny petting zoo of his own that he refused to just call a farm. Your pins for everything were each other's birthdates and he was the only other name on your bank account. Why?

Staring down at the menu you'd seen over a hundred times, you were sure, you couldn't decide on just what sounded good and part of you just wanted everything. Those moments staring at words that started to blur, you noticed Junhee hadn't touched his menu and kept shifting around, visibly uncomfortable for reasons you couldn't possible figure out.

'It's unlike you to not be going off about the food here.. or already having ordered your favorite drink that, I recall, you said you'd die without if you didn't have it every time you came here,' you began, closing the menu and setting it down with narrowed eyes, 'what's going on?'

'It's stupid. Just.. order and get some food, I'll probably just eat later. I'm not really hungry.'

That was a bold faced lie and you knew it, the concern growing. 'And, what's the oh-so-stupid reason, exactly?'

It took him a minute, shifting more and acting like a child who had gotten in trouble. 'I, uh.. I can't really..' he gestured around, lips pursed and growing even more upset by the second, you could tell by the way he was trying to stop himself from frowning. 'Can't really afford it.' You were college students, it wasn't the world's biggest secret if you couldn't afford something.

'Do you really think I'm just going to eat in front of you?' You snorted, avoiding any comment that would further his being upset over the situation, 'Don't worry about it and order, okay?'

Financial struggles were no quiet matter between the two of you and never had been since you started school. Junhee lived off campus in an apartment with two shitty roommates, a terrible part time job and parents that pretty much didn't care if he perished on the side of the street somewhere. You, on the other hand, which you didn't like bringing up, were doing fine but only because your parents dropped something of an 'allowance' into your account for foods and necessities.

You ignored his attempt to argue and told him if he didn't order something, you were going to do it for him; he shut up.

The next day, you took a trip to the bank.

You could feel eyes on you as you splayed across the couch, staring at the ceiling and contemplating life and all of it's annoyances. No question left you but even if you wanted to say something, you were cut off.

'So, are you going to tell me what's going on? For the past.. three weeks? You've been asking me all sorts of weird stuff,' Junhee inquired, frowning thoughtfully, 'Are you testing me or something? Trust me, yes, I remember every single second I've spent with you. I remember every word you've said, the names of every guy you've been with and the ones I'd like to fight. I remember every birthday and gift I've given you and the ones you've given me. Yes, I remember your favorite things and everything so, what's the deal?'

It sounded sentimental at first but then you noticed that all too familiar waiver in his voice and out of the corner of your eye, you noticed his hands fiddling with the chain bracelet that had adorned his wrist for five years; he wanted to cry. A crying Junhee was something no one ever wanted on your hands and you briefly recalled a phone call from a very panicked Byeongkwan because of just that but you were letting your thoughts get off topic.

'I think I'm in love with you.'

You were both cut off as your head turned to finally look at him, soaking in the unreadable expression on his features when someone busted through the door; 'Look!'

Both of you looked towards your two friends that invited themselves into your door, one holding a new cat and the other looking just as pleased with the announcement but it gradually dropped. 'Shit, did we interrupt something?' Of course, you always knew when you finally and truly confessed to someone that it would be Byeongkwan who ruined the whole thing; you used it as an escape, though, reminding yourself of what the confession could do to your friendship.

'New minion, I see,' you chimed, sitting up and ignoring the question, both of them, as you rose to greet Donghun's new pet. You were ignorant to the looks shared between the three boys and you were happy about that.

Now, you just had to avoid it ever coming up again until it was forgotten.

Junhee, however, didn't want that to happen.

After about an hour of chitchatting and ignoring the gaze of your best friend, you excused yourself under the excuse of having a meetup for a class, despite it being your dorm, and managed to weasel your way out. There was really nowhere to go, no one to talk to and you surely didn't have any plans for the next week; you ended up at the café on campus. It was quiet and filled mostly with a few students doing work and the two members of staff behind the counter, one eventually joining you at the table. He didn't say anything, waited for you to stop your dramatic Disney scene and acknowledge him.

'Would you date me, Yu?'

Taken a bit off guard, he ended up snorting. 'I can't tell if this is a trap or you want the genuine answer,' he replied, crossing his arms atop the table, 'but, on the hand that it's serious.. probably. I mean, I definitely wouldn't turn you down. We've known each other for a few years, hang out on a regular basis.. get along and have a lot of similar interests. So, yeah.'

The answer made your lips draw into a deep frown and you tapped your fingers against the cup, soaking up every word. 'Even though we're friends? What if we broke up?'

A soft 'ah' came from him as he realized what was really going on and he shrugged, thinking it over for a minute or two. 'We're both adults and I don't believe either of us would do something so that the breakup would be something that could ruin our friendship. I understand it would be like.. friends then it being intimate then back to friends, but I think both of us are mature enough to deal with that and not let it bother us too much.' He spoke like he'd been through it several times and in reality, it had only been once, a small fling with a mutual friend but they still seemed pretty okay. 'Is this about Jun?'

'Does everyone know?' You groaned out, releasing the cup to lean back and rub your hands over your face in defeat, 'I.. I told him I think I love him then Kwan and Donghun showed up and I bailed because now I don't actually want to face him or admit to ever actually saying it. I do! I do love him! I don't.. I don't want to lose him, you know?'

You could see the way the latter looked at you, sympathetic and calculating what words wouldn't just stress you out further. 'Look.. I know you don't want to hear it from me or anyone else for that matter because you want to keep saying it'll ruin your friendship when in reality, you don't like the idea that you could hurt each other, I was the same way with Donghun, so I understand.. but, you should really see all this from an outsider's point of view. Junhee looks at you like you hung the moon and you look at him like he painted the stars; yes, it's been like that since I've met you and a reminder, it's been years. I don't know what took you so long to realize it or if you've just avoided it this whole time but anyone would have to be blind not to see it. Now,' he sighed deeply as he finished and straightened, 'I think you should probably go and talk to him about it considering you just confessed then ditched but it's your choice. I don't think you have anything to worry about.. for either of you. You're the most loyal person I know, so I have no doubt you'd ever hurt him in a way that would ruin you guys and he can barely swat at a fly or sit still through hearing thunder, you think he's going to do something? Regardless.. one of these days, soon, you'll have to face it and I really hope you don't go into it with the cliché reason of your friendship being ruined.'

The words sank in slow and you wanted nothing but to cry your eyes out because he was right; he always was and you hated it. It took a while for you to speak and he seemed okay with that, briefly leaving you to fill a couple orders before returning. 'I know you're leaving for break tomorrow.. tell him before then.' Those were his last words before he bid you good luck and a good night, heading back to his own dorm, most likely to call Donghun now that he'd projected just a little bit.

Irrationality was a word that would be in your character description box and the word stupid could very well be right next to it because when you got home, you packed your bag and decided to leave early, not bothering to let any of your friends know. You needed time and you were being selfish, so selfish to the point you thought maybe he'd just hate you when you got back.

Oh boy were you wrong.

Two days into being back home and confiding in your mother who promptly smacked you upside the back of the head, you found yourself sitting on the porch and moping, split between what to do. You suspected the boys were a bit angry with you when you noticed the ample amount of texts, voicemails, social messages and phone calls that had gone ignored; you caught a glimpse of the absolute book Yuchan took the time to send you, leaving you kind of scared to even open it. It didn't take long for the guilt to set in but you chose to wait until you were back on campus to deal with it.

Or at least, that was your plan.

'So, I know you've never been a fan of confrontation but.. you've never been the type to run away.'

The sudden voice startled you as you hadn't even noticed anyone pull up and of course, upon looking up, you were met with the face you were trying to avoid the most. Junhee stood at the end of the sidewalk looking pitiful and shifting his weight in a nervous manner. You didn't bother trying to speak, not knowing what to say but you did wait for the rant, the berating that you deserved; that wasn't who he was though.

He even stayed quiet for a minute or two, making his way closer to sit on the steps, looking up towards your figure. 'Did you mean it?'

You could have answered right away, poured your heart out and let out the tears you'd been holding in since the moment you left. Instead, you stayed quiet and pulled your knees closer to your chest, not trusting your own voice. He didn't relent though, reaching out to lightly nudge your knee.

'That's all I need to know.. did you mean it? If.. if you didn't I can just leave and we don't have to bother with it again.'

'And, if I did..?' Finally finding your voice, you looked over to him, chewing hard on your lower tier, nervous and kind of wanting to throw up.

You could see him thinking it over before a faint smile showed up. 'I'd most likely cry.. but I'm going to cry either way,' he began, shrugging his shoulders while moving up to sit next to you, 'I'd also tell you that I love you, too and I've been trying to tell you that for years now.'

The confession made your heart flutter, your skin burn and the butterflies being kept back burst in delight in your gut. 'Even.. after everything we've been through? Everything you've seen..?'

Junhee nodded. 'Mhm. I'd go through it all again and what do you mean? I've seen nothing but you.'

• “W-wait,” You stuttered, her fingers fumbling near your zipper on your jeans as she shoved you against the stall wall

• You were visiting him in his office since he’d promised to have lunch with you

He asked you to close the door behind him and you obliged, setting your bag down in the empty chair beside you

• He’d finished signing the last document on his desk and then he stood, walking over towards you

• You followed suit, standing while giving him a smile

• Just as you went to grab your bag he had grabbed you first, easily picking you up and placing you on his desk

• His request went ignored as you froze on the desk, your mind flashing back t o your teacher in high school

• “I know how badly you need to pass, MC. I teach you how to do math; what’s so different about teaching this? Now come on...down on your knees...”

• An angry red handprint formed on his cheek, his eyes wide with shock as he slowly turned his head back towards you

• You couldn’t think of any words to say, so you did what you had done back then; you ran

• Of course you didn’t listen, keeping your head down while Jumin hurriedly ran after you

• He caught you in the elevator, pressing the emergency stop button before turning to you

• Your eyes were cloudy with tears as you shook your head

• “Jumin I’m so sorry I just—”

• “Just talk to me MC. What’s going on?”

• You caved and told him everything; from reporting your teacher to the court cases that went on for almost three years

• “MC Oh God if I had known...I’m sorry. I promise I’ll be more careful; and we’ll get you some help, okay?”

you slowly walked into the house, dropping your things by the door without a single flinch at the loud thump it made. seeing your boyfriend on the couch, you quickly walked over and sat on his lap. "hmm? are you alright, dear?" he wrapped his long pale fingers around you, before seeing your tears. His smile dropping.

• quick to comfort you as best as possible,

• if you talked about it, he'd listen while stroking your hair softly, and landing kisses to your temple and head

his smile faltered once he saw tears streaming down your cheeks, his lips parted. "my love, what's wrong? come here." he opened his arms, and you hesitantly walked into his arms. tightly squeezing him. "tell me everything, i'd like to know about your day."

"there's my little princess-" he cut off, as you sat in his lap and dug yourself into the collar of his neck. a worried gulp, as he felt choked on his words. he never felt this way around you, but seeing how you looked way more hurt than usual it shattered his heart. "dove, what's wrong..?"

you walked into headquarters, asking a knight if he had been in his room. per usual, he was and you walked up the stairs slowly. reaching his room, you turned the knob to see kaeya resting his head in his palm, ingulfed in his work. you didn't want to bother him, but he felt your presence and turned around in his chair. seeing you, he quickly stood up and rushed over to you closing the door. "love, what's wrong? your beautiful eyes are so red.." a look of worry on his face, and all you did was press yourself against his body. "it's okay, Y/N. i'm right here.." you broke down after hearing his words.

• would try to joke around at first, but once seeing how you wouldn't react he'd quickly be there by your side.

• offers you to sit on his lap while he did work, sadly he couldn't stop to comfort you as his work was due the same day and jean was ready to scold him. but he did make sure to pay attention to you when you asked for kisses or to be hugged.

• once finishing his papers, he'd give you one last kiss and take you out to a dinner. making sure to give you all of his attention from the second you walked into his room to even after you fell asleep <3

DAINSLEIF

"how has my flower been?" dainsleif spoke, putting a cold hand to your cheek which slightly made you shiver. "i've..been alright." you said, looking at him with a weak smile. his eyebrows furrowed, confident you weren't fine at all with that smile. "babe, you know you can tell me everything. i'm here to support you, and listen to all of your feelings without a doubt." he rubbed your cheek with his thumb, looking more worried than ever. you didn't want to tell him about your day at all, but he was right. you did need to get everything out of the way, therefore you sighed. before beginning to tell your day. "well work was terrible first of all, everybody was stressing me out and yelling at me!--" you continued on, before breaking out into tears over how stressful these past days have been. he kissed your nose, facing you towards him. "angel, i'm so so sorry that happened today. i know work can be so stressful for you, and i want to make sure the only thing you feel js comfort and happiness in your life." he looked down at your hand, grabbing it and intertwining your fingers together. "how about you call off these next few days, and we can stay here together. i promise i'll make you smile, and laugh."

Not Me: Chapter 1: Sweet, Sweet Life

Summary: You always wanted the perfect life- great husband, fulfilling job, and overall happiness. What if you can’t have even a bit of your fairytale?

The sun was shining through the blinds, and you groaned loudly. Another day in your personal nightmare. You tried to snuggle into the pillows harder, willing your sleep to come again and take you for at least another few hours, so that you wouldn’t have to face the world. And by the world, you meant your husband, James.

Just the thought of him made a shiver run down your spine, and not the good kind. You didn’t even know how you got to that position. There used to be times when James was all you could think of.

You were at high school together, buddies, thanks to your fathers owning a publishing company together. You were a freshman, and he was a senior, but that didn’t stop you from spending a lot of time together. You used to piss off your fathers too often for your own good, whenever there was a banquet or some other fancy shit, you and Bucky would always find a way to make it at least a bit enjoyable for the two of you.

You had each other to hold on to, and that was enough. You both went to a different university, Bucky attending Yale, while you went to Brown. It was during this time that you grew apart, having different goals in life, and life choices as well. But your crush was still strong as ever at that time.

James had this ability to draw people to them. You could even pinpoint the exact thing that made him so charming because there were so many of them. His eyes, his deep, gruff voice, his physique, which would get any girl to her knees, or his charm. But you knew he wasn’t interested in you that way.

While you saw Bucky partying every second possible, you were more the studying type. Not that you didn’t have your fair share of wild parties, making you wake up in Canada instead of your home. But you were a passionate reader and student, and so when the crucial times came, you knew how to use your brain. And form what you heard, with Bucky’s party habits, he had to pay somebody to take all his exams. That was the only plausible option in your mind.

You only saw each other during summers, when you both worked for Barnes&Clark, your fathers’ company. And while Bucky was much more interested in all the sexy secretaries, you were impressed by all it entailed to be a businesswoman. You sat with Mr Barnes and your father in their meetings, they even seemed to listen to you while you spoke about your ideas of new ways of getting books to young people.

It was close to your graduation that your life turned completely, and, at the time, you thought for the better.

There was a knock on your door, and you frowned. It was Thursday evening, and you weren’t expecting anyone. What was even weirder that the person was already in the building, without ringing the bell from the front door. You cautiously went and looked through the peep-hole, only to be utterly surprised.

You opened the door, a confused frown on your face.

“Bucky. To what do I owe the pleasure?” You asked him, stepping aside, to let him inside.

He didn’t say anything, just stepped in and waited for you to take him further inside your apartment. When you led you to the sofa and sat down, you raised your eyebrows, indicating that he really should start explaining what it was he wanted.

“Look, Y/N. We’ve known each other for a long time, and I’ve been thinking, recently, and I reached a decision in which, I hope, you’ll support me.”

You still didn’t say anything, not sure where he was going with it. You haven’t heard from him in months, and so it was peculiar as to why he suddenly came knocking on your door.

Without any other word, he got on his knee and pulled out a white velvet box from his pocket. Your eyes were suddenly the size of a cartoon character, and you were pretty sure they now occupied most of your face.

“W-what? Bucky are you drunk? Or are you fatally ill? What the hell are you talking about?” You asked him, on the verge of a mental breakdown. This couldn’t be happening. Sure, you liked him and sure, you did try to write Y/N Barnes a few too many times before. But you were both young, 24 and 27 years old, and you sure as hell weren’t ready for marriage.

“I prioritise doll. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it. I know you have been single for far too long, and you’re never comfortable around any other guy than me. I’ve had my fair share of fun, and now I’m ready to settle down. And with whom better than you? We used to be best friends, and I think you never really grow from that kind of bond. Just think about it, will you?”

You were looking in those icy blue eyes, and for a weird reason, you saw the desperation in them and a hint of anger. You couldn’t be too sure, because you haven’t seen him for so long, but he had one thing right. You never really grow out of that bond. You thought he did, but obviously, he was thinking about you as much as you were thinking about him.

“I’ll need some time, and I think we should spend some time together if you want to marry me, don’t you think?”

A flash of something you weren’t able to recognise ran through his face, but as soon as it appeared, it was gone, and you weren’t really sure what it was.

“Sure, can I stay tonight and we can watch a movie, or something, huh?” He asked, without a hint of a smile, and you enthusiastically nodded. After all, this was something you dreamed of quite often, to be completely honest.

It went like this for a while, you and Bucky spending evenings together, and after one particularly fun evening, full of gin and tonics and tangled sheets, you finally gave him your answer.

“I will marry you Bucky, if it’s still something you want, I think we could be really good together,” you whispered against his naked chest, laying almost on top of him in your bed. He hummed, patted your shoulder and got up from the bed.

You looked at him confused, trying to determine if you said something wrong, but he only pulled the velvet box out of the pants that were laying abandoned on the floor and slipped the massive diamond ring on your finger.

“Good. Now sleep so we can plan the damn thing,” he said in a hushed voice, got dressed, and left you laying on the bed, naked and exhausted from the amazing sex you just had, confused as hell.

And that’s how your marriage pretty much started. Despite Bucky leaving that day, you were pretty excited about the whole ordeal, and so was your and Bucky’s family. The only unexcited party seemed to be Bucky, but you thought it was just his face, nothing serious.

But after a year of marriage, you realised that it probably wasn’t just his face. When he was around his Uni friends or his colleagues, his demeanour changed drastically.

He was joyful and funny, and always the life of the party. But when you two were alone, he was brooding and looked pissed 99% of the time.

You thought you’d have everything you ever wished for. Happy family, amazing husband, and a dream job. But things aren’t always the way we want them.

Your amazing husband rarely ever spoke to you, and when he did, it was to point out a flaw on you.

You shouldn’t talk so loudly. Your language isn’t lady-like. I don’t like it when you wear sweatpants, I think you should look nice even at home. This steak isn’t medium-rare. This make-up is too much. Stand and be pretty. Blah blah blah.

You tried to do all he said, trying to be the best wife for him, because you still had the idea of Bucky loving you, and wanting to spend his life with you. But every sentence like this created a gash in your heart, and by the first anniversary, you thought your heart was just a shredded piece of muscle, unable to function any more.

What broke you down to your knees, was, however, a different kind of message, delivered to you by Bucky and your father.

“James will lead the company, he has most of the rights to Barnes&Clark, and we think it would be great if you were a stay-at-home wife like you were supposed to be from the very beginning. Look, Y/N, you are a woman, and those shouldn’t be heads of the company. You understand that, don’t you?”

You were in total and complete shock. He trained you your whole life, to be the CEO, or at least the head of the publishing, while somebody else would take care of the numbers. But now he was telling you that your dream was vanishing right in front of your eyes.

“But, but, dad, I thought you-“

“How about you stop thinking and just be a pretty thing, sweetie?” Your father asked you mockingly, and to your utter surprise, Bucky laughed as well, patting your father’s shoulder.

You wanted to run away in tears, because every time you tried to speak up, either your father or Bucky would shush you. By the time the meeting ended, your eyes were filled with tears, but you didn’t want either of the men seeing this weak side of yours.

When you left the company’s building with Bucky by your side, you were shaking with both sadness and anger.

“Are you seriously with him on that, Bucky?” You asked, desperation evident in your voice. But the look Bucky gave you made you regret that you even asked him anything.

“Of course, I agree with him. You have to take care of our household, and not be busy with business. Oh, and, by the way, I would prefer it if you called me James, from now on.”

It felt like he pushed a dagger deep inside your guts. He let everyone call him Bucky, he would always say that it just felt better when the people around him called him Bucky. And now he wanted you, his wife, to call him James?

You sighed again and sat up in your bed. Ever since you moved in, you had separate bedrooms, James telling you he needed his rest to run the company. And even if you wanted to protest in the very beginning, you gave up. Like on many things in your life at the moment.

You used to have dreams, you used to be ambitious, but this life took everything from you. You rarely ever had sex with James- he would always tell you how tired he was and that you should be tired as well. And if you weren’t, it meant you weren’t doing enough through the day.

You learned how to cook, how to bake, how to sew, how to have the perfect garden, but it still wasn’t impressive enough for James to spare a kind word for you.

And neither did you father. He would always only remind you to be a good wife to James and to leave the rest to the men, and by your first anniversary, you believed all of those things, your self-respect pretty much non-existing.

You got up from the bed and headed towards the closet, to put on something representative to not give James any reason to pester you. You took a quick shower and put on some make-up, knowing full well that James was against the natural beauty look. You put on high-waisted wide pants and a blouse, trying no to look too shabby even if you were only going down to the kitchen to make James a breakfast.

When you came into the kitchen, he was already there, sitting by the table, reading news on his phone. He didn’t even spare you a look, and you sighed, walking towards the kitchen isle. It would be just another day in your hell, and you couldn’t do anything about it. Or, at least, you thought you couldn’t.

Genre: Smut

Plot: You had just debuted and being the leader of a group wasn't an easy task. Willing to see how Im Jaebum managed to deal with his six members you attended one of his concerts. You would have never imagined the way it would all end up.

This was a request! I had to change the plot a little to make it work though, sorry! I hope you like it!

When the line you were in moved again you knew it was your time to say goodbye to Mark, who had been incredibly sweet with you for the entire five minutes you've been there fangirling over him, and end your heavenly experience with meeting the leader Im Jaebum.

He was your favorite, your reasons were absolutely different to most of the common reasons one would have to choose Jaebum as a bias. You thought he was sexy, you weren't blind, and you knew that under all his baggy hoodies defined muscles were hiding. Another strong feature he had was his smile, the way his teeth showed when he did or the way he smirked confidently when he heard fangirls screaming to get his attention. Oh, Jaebum could be shy, yeah, but he loved getting attention like every single idol.

Anyways, your reason to like him so much was his strong determination to keep his members together and make his group sucessful which was extremely hard, specially, when the leader themselves was new and felt kind of insecure. How did you know this? Well, you had just debuted two weeks ago and it was starting to be obvious you were having trouble to make your members get along and get comfortable around you. It was obvious that if the members didn't have connection the group would fall appart quickly.

In a desesperate attempt you came here to this event before the concert to do a little investigation. You wanted to see the way he acted around his members, the way he interacted with his fans and how he behaved during the concert. This was a research trip although you couldn't help but feel like another fangirl when you were meeting each GOT7 member.

"Hi there" Jaebum smiled, sliding your album towards him to sign it "What's your name?" He lifted his head enough to make your eyes meet, his smile getting slightly bigger.

"(Y/N)" You replied smiling back, your eyes never moving away from him as he slid his pen across the CD's paper gracefully.

"You're oddly familiar, have we met somewhere?" Shock crossed your face when he asked that, had him, by any chance, seen your debute? Even though you formally were an idol now, your group wasn't too known around the country yet and it was still kind of shocking when somebody recognized you.

"I...Uhm..." He rested his cheek on the palm of his hand, his eyes scanning all your face features as he waited for an answer. For some stupid reason, you were shy to tell him about your debut. "I debuted two weeks ago, I'm...An idol too" You tried to smile back at him, your cheeks turning incredibly red.

"Ah! See? I don't forget pretty faces that easily" He chuckled, reaching foward to pull a strand of your hair behind your ear. You shyly looked away. "I saw your debut, your group was pretty awesome by the way...That sexy concept you all used for the MV" Jaebum smirked, clearing his throat a little, you shyly chuckled "It suited you really well"

"Ah stop it, you are going to make me blush even harder" You covered your face with both of your hands, smiling when you heard his laugh.

"But I really want to see you" He playfully complained, his hands pulling your wrist away from your face. "You are so much gorgeous in person" Your heart seemed to stop beating when he whispered those words, was he flirting with you? Was it just your imagination? When he managed to keep your small hands away from your blushing face a boyish grin appeared on his face, you suddenly were too focused on his lips "And deathly adorable with blushed cheeks, I must say" He chuckled, slightly leaning on the table to be closer to you. One of his hands didn't leave yours, the small circles that his thumb was drawing on your palm were kind of relaxing. "Did you come alone? Or is the rest of your group here?" He asked curiously, glancing around before he looked back at you.

"I came alone to do some research" His eyebrows furrowed in pure confusion as he looked down at you, your cheeks turned really red once again before you started to explain "I really wanted go see you guys and well, kind of copy the way you lead to make my own group work"

"You want some advice?" He asked with a smile on his face, he actually seemed glad about you asking for his help "Stay after the concert, we can have a coffee and talk"

The invitation caught you so off guard that you just stared at him while your mind struggled to process the words that had come out of his lips. Im Jaebum, leader of Got7, sucessful composer and song writer, was asking you -kind of a nobody- to stay after his concert and have some coffee together? Staying had more advantages than disadvantages, you weren't asked to have some coffee by famous idols every day. Jaebum was simply being friendly, offering his help and giving you the opportunity to spend time with him when he probably had better things to do.

The only disadvantage you could think of was getting recognize by somebody and people starting misunderstandings that would be turned into hurtful scandals for you and your careers. It wasn't too possible but it wasn't impossible either.

"Come on, I don't bite" Jaebum insisted "Unless you want me to" A shiver ran down your spine as he grinned, he had a weird effect on your body and he seemed to know that.

"What if someone sees us?" You asked sighing. Were you really going to risk your whole idol career for a couple of tips. Well, actually, you seemed to care more about spending time with him rather than finally getting those advices.

"We'll hang out in this room, only my manager and a security guy will know we are in here" He squeezed your hand, letting it go when somebody told you it was already time to let the fan next to you meet Jaebum "Pretty pleaaase?"

The puppy eyes he gave you as his final conviction attack were too much to reject "Fine" You sighed rolling your eyes a little at the huge grin on his lips "Your tips better be useful, my manager will be mad for getting back to the dorms late" You warned seriously, Jaebum just chuckle.

"(Y/N), I promise it will be worth it" He winked one last time at you before you turned around and walked outside to get ready for the concert.

As you had expected the concert had been beyond your expections. You knew GOT7 would be perfect at their performances but if there was an adjective that would describe something better than perfect then, that would be the exact word you would use to describe their concert, that was obviously, from an analytical point of view.

Your fangirl side was still all over the place while you waited in the empty meeting room for Jaebum to show up. You hadn't been able to get your eyes off him during every single song they performed. You were to fascinated by his voice, the way his chest moved up and down -sometimes slow, sometimes fast- with each breath and the way his body rolled perfectly in sync with the music. You would be lying if you denied having some kind of naughty thoughts about him.

"Hey"

The sound of his voice snapped you out of your thoughts, automatically bringing you back to reality. Shaking your head a little, you looked up at him, awaiting to see a recent showered and clean Jaebum. However, as your eyes roamed up his body, you noticed he was still wearing his last outfit from the concert. Tight black jeans, white slightly unbuttoned shirt and sex hair, yeah, Jaebum's hair didn't look messy, it looked like he had just had sex with somebody backstage and that was the hottest thing you have ever seen.

"Uh sorry, I didn't want to make you wait too much" He smiled apologetically, bowing his head a little before he took a seat next to you, right where he had been signing CDs almost two hours ago.

"It's okay, you should have put on some comfortable clothes though" You were quick to accept his apology even when you, for some reason, didn't feel like he was truly apologizing. There was a small voice in your head that was telling you Jaebum was doing this on purpose, it seemed like he really enjoyed making you all shy and flustered. When you felt brave enough to look up at him instead of finding his eyes, your eyes got stuck on a drop of sweat that was rolling down his neck slowly, painfully.

"It's fine" He interrupted your "innocent" staring with his smooth voice, taking a seat next to yours. Jaebum leaned back on his chair tiredly, the quiet groan that escaped his lips sounded as good as your favorite song. "I'm comfortable this way, I didn't want to make you wait too much" He handed you a plastic cup filled with steamy coffee.

"I feel bad for making you stay though, I'm sure you just feel like crawling into your bed and going to sleep"

The smirk that pulled Jaebum's lips up instantly told you how wrong your assumptions were. "You see" His legs spreaded in a manly way, the cloth of his pants becoming even tighter around his thighs and crotch. You truly were struggling to not keep admiring his amazing physique. "Concerts give you this kind of adrenaline, this" He looked at you and stayed quiet, thinking for the exact word "Amazing feeling that gives you more energy" He smirked leaning foward to be closer to you, one of his knees caressing yours.

"You guys were all amazing, all your voices sound even better in a live performance" You complimented them, Jaebum smiled nodding.

"Ah, here I was all happy thinking I was your favorite" Again, the thought of him flirting with you crossed your mind. Was he being serious? Was he just messing with you? "But anyways you came here to do some research right? What did you want to know?"

You were slightly relieved that he had dropped the flirting attitude to pay attention to the main reason of you asking for help. "I just wanted to see how can I manage my group, being the leader is more difficult than I thought it would be" You confessed sounding stressed, reaching up nervously to scratch the back part of your neck.

"I know that feeling" Jaebum leaned foward again, your faces slightly closer as you felt yourself getting lost in his dark eyes. Were them so dark when you first met? They couldn't have got darker, could they? "Everything seems so out of place at first, you are supposed to lead a bunch of strangers who don't completely trust you and you feel so stressed, so lost" His voice came out soothing, too sweet and comforting. It was obvious he had gone through the same thing as you. "Just give it time, get to know all your members, listen to their insecurities and concerns and let them trust you" He advised with a small smile on his face "As soon as they feel like you are stable, like you know what you're doing everything will be just fine"

"What you say makes sense but I just don't know, I even feel like they don't like me at all" You sighed softly, running your fingers through your hair. Suddenly Jaebum stood up and with really slow steps, he positioned himself behind your chair.

"You are too stressed (Y/N)" His fingers suddenly started running through your hair with his fingertips caressing your scalp as his hands moved "Stress will come when things become really complicated, now you just have to focus on being a good leader" You could feel the warmth of his body behind you, pulling you closer to him "Relax, everything will be okay alright?"

When his last words exited his mouth, you felt his hands moving lower to the base of your neck. Jaebum started giving you a massage, his fingers pressing onto the right spots that untangled the knots in your tense muscles. Feeling too relaxed, you simply nodded at his words hearing him smirk.

"Such a good girl" He whispered right next to your ear, his touch becoming a bit more rough but still being pleasant "I knew you would be a good girl as soon as our eyes met before the concert. You looked so sweet, so innocent yet so excited to meet me" His warmth breath sent shivers down your spine, your skin getting goosebumps everywhere "Honestly, it boosted my ego like crazy seeing I had such an effect on you" His voice felt like silk, his hands still touching your sensitive shoulders. Chapter 7: Whispers of Cold Weather

Nott just had enough time to process a few key details of their new surroundings—elegant paneled walls, low ceilings, another long hallway—before she felt Fjord scoop her up under the armpits like a cat and whisk her away to somewhere around the corner.

“What the fuck?” she hissed, but was immediately shushed by the rest of the group. They were all clustered closely together, pressed flush against the wall as if trying to hide in plain sight. Most of them now wore simple linen shirts, though Beau and Yasha had acquired some sort of basic chain mail.

“Where are we?” Nott whispered. “What are these clothes? What’s going on?”

“Shhhh,” Yasha said softly, and then pointed to the corridor where Nott had been standing. “Be quiet. Do you hear that?”

She brushed her shoulders off indignantly, then turned around and, indeed, her ears twitched and picked up a sound just on the edge of hearing.

It was a bit higher than it should’ve been, and the accent was heavier than she was used to, but that voice:

“—no, no, more like…something I feel. Not, not that I have actually noticed.”

“Something you feel?”

That had been a young woman. Her tone was light, and mildly puzzled.

“So, you do not have actual proof that things are wrong?”

A different man now, words deeper but clumsy, as if he wasn’t quite used to his own register.

“No, Wulf, I do not,” the first voice sighed. “But you believe me, ja? It is…I just cannot begin to describe it properly. But I know that something peculiar is going on. And I know that I have felt this way before.”

“I understand,” said the man’s voice, “but I do not think Master Ikithon will believe you.”

“He would not listen to something so vague,” the woman added. “You would do better if you had real evidence.”

“Ja, ja, I know,” Caleb mumbled, and then there was a rustling, sound, like somebody was standing up. “I think I will still try, and even if the Master Ikithon does not listen, just…keep your eyes open, please? I do not want you getting hurt.”

Eodwulf laughed. “Hurt? Please, Caleb, why would we be hurt?”

Footsteps, approaching the door. The Mighty Nein immediately pulled back around their corner and flattened themselves against the wall as best as they could. On her left, Nott saw Caduceus suddenly vanish from view, and rolled her eyes.

Back in the main hallway, a door opened and a young Caleb half-emerged. “I do not know,” he was saying. “It is just…like I said, a strange feeling. I am not so sure why or how I feel it.”

“Perhaps you are just tired from today’s training!” Astrid’s voice called. “You always were a weak one, Caleb!”

Her words, though harsh, held no trace of malice. Caleb even laughed, and stuck his tongue out. “It takes quite a lot of concentration to channel elemental magic! You would know that, if you were any good.”

There were giggles from the other room, and then Eodwulf’s voice rang out as well. “Come now, come now, let us make peace! What would the Empire do if their most talented mages began warring with one another?”

“I don’t know,” Astrid snorted. “What would it do?”

“It would call our teacher to knock us all over the head,” Caleb grinned. “Now good night, you two. It is almost ten, we should return to our rooms now.”

“Isn’t it freaky how he always knows the time?” Eodwulf asked. There was more rustling, as he stood as well.

“Quite,” Astrid agreed, “but yes, the freaky one is right. Good night, boys.”

Eodwulf appeared in the doorway, and threw an arm around Caleb’s shoulders. “Schlaf gut, Astrid!” Then he grimaced. “And enjoy the night while it lasts, too. Tomorrow is more concentration training.”

Caleb groaned. “Gods, you would think we’d have moved on by now, ja? I had a gottsverdamnt knife in my arm today, and I was completely fine!”

Astrid giggled. “You weren’t completely fine, you nearly set me on fire! I was almost as upset as Master Trent.”

“Hey, at least you two didn’t break concentration!” Eodwulf countered. “He is going to have my ass tomorrow, I just know it.”

Caleb gave him a pat on the back. “But think of how good you’ll get,” he said kindly. “A year from now, we’ll laugh at how we could barely shrug off an old man and his tiny blades.”

“Do not let him hear you say that,” Eodwulf chuckled. “I happen to be appropriately terrified of him.”

“Agreed!” Astrid called. “Now go away! I need to get some rest.”

“Ja, ja, we are going!”

“Good night!”

Caleb and Eodwulf began heading down the hall, towards where the Nein were hiding. As their footsteps approached, the group looked around in panic, Nott began searching for another door to hide behind and Fjord rummaged through his pockets; Beau had already given up and Yasha was just standing as still as possible with her eyes closed. Any second now, the boys would round the corner and see this motley crew right in front of them, and that could trigger anything from annoying questions, to another fight, to another session of let’s-see-how-much-Caleb-hates-us-today, and then—

—and then suddenly, it was morning. The sounds of footsteps vanished. Light streamed in from open windows, washed over the corridor and settled against the carpeted floors. They could hear, from somewhere faintly off in the distance, the sound of birds chirping.

“What the shit?!”

Beau had thrown her hands up into the air, and spun in an angry, confused circle.

“Yeah,” Fjord murmured, “I feel that way too, but could you please keep it down? Just in case.”

Beau shot him a glare, and lowered her voice begrudgingly. “Sure, yeah, fine.”

“What just happened?” Nott asked. “Was that…it was just night-time a second ago, right?”

“It sure was,” Caduceus nodded.

“Jester?” Fjord tried, turning towards her. “Wanna take a guess at what just—”

And then they were all standing outside.

Sunlight filtered in through the thick canopy of autumn forest above them. The ground below was hidden, covered completely by brilliant orange and scarlet leaves, hints of gold and brown scattered about. To their left was a slow-running stream, and the air around them, though still comfortable, held the waiting whispers of cold weather on its way.

Their clothing had changed again as well—now they were all dressed in the simple leathers and furs of hunters, or battle-ready travelers.

And after their initial moment of shock, Beau sat down on the forest floor and put her head in her hands.

“I’m done,” she said. “This is stupid.”

Fjord pinched the bridge of his nose. “Jester? Please tell me this is normal.”

“Ehmm…”

“Dangit, Jes.”

She pouted. “I’m sorry, alright?! I’m not an expert at this stuff! I just brought us here. I don’t know about every single thing that’s going on.”

Fjord held his palms up apologetically. “Sorry, sorry,” he said. “I know, I didn’t expect you to know, I…sorry.”

She waved a hand, gave him a weary smile. “Don’t worry about it.”

He nodded, then spoke again. “Is this place…wherever we are, do we think it’s safe?”

Caduceus took point. He looked around, tilted his head slowly, and examined the area around them.

“Seems alright,” he said. “The wildlife sounds at peace, there aren’t any disturbances nearby.”

Nott leaned back. “I will never understand how you can just do that,” she said. “Is this how you live your life always?”

He shrugged. “It’s a knack.”

“Okay, okay,” Fjord said, re-focusing the conversation, “if we’ve got a minute, then I think we really should all just…just sit down and regroup. See if we can figure out what the hell is going on now.”

“That would help,” Yasha said quietly. “I was missing for some of the last dream, I think.”

“Oh, shit, yeah,” Beau said, eyes widening. “I totally forgot, are you…good?”

Yasha shrugged. “It was quiet. I was asleep.”

Jester and Fjord looked like they wanted to say more, but at her continued silence, they gave up. All of them sat down.

“We’re still in Caleb’s brain,” Jester volunteered. “Just now, we heard him talking to his friends, and then the world changed and then the world changed again.”

“Who were those people?” Caduceus asked. “Do we know them?”

Beau and Nott exchanged glances. Nott went.

“They’re his old school friends,” she supplied. “Um…the girl is the one that we met earlier, Astrid. And the other one, well, Caleb didn’t really talk about him much to us, but his name is Eodwulf. They’re all from the same town.”

“We think Caleb had a crush on Astrid,” Jester added. “He said her name when we were dancing, once.”

“Do you think they’ll try and get in the way if we run after Caleb?” Fjord asked. “Like…like that other guy did, and anyways, who was that?”

“He looked familiar,” Yasha nodded. “I feel as though I have met him before.”

Beau’s eyes narrowed. “That was Trent. Ikithon, or whatever. We met ‘im at the Victory Pit, remember? He was Caleb’s old teacher.”

“He’s a teacher?” Jester exclaimed. “But…but did you hear the, the part where Caleb said the thing about knives and stabbing? Was anybody else bothered by that? And by how…weirdly okay with it he sounded?”

“No, I heard it,” Nott answered. “It was super-duper bothering.”

“I did not think it was so odd,” Yasha shrugged, and they all took a second to just stare at her incredulously.

“One day we’re going to talk about what you just said,” Beau sighed eventually. “But today is probably not that day.”

“Scary insights into Yasha’s past aside,” Fjord nodded, “I’m more worried about why the world changed so suddenly, right after. We had way more time to run around in the last two dreams. This time, we didn’t even get a chance to see Caleb.”

“That was probably good though, right?” Caduceus asked. “Otherwise he might’ve seen us, and been upset at us again.”

“But if things change too fast for us to adjust, it could make our jobs harder,” Nott countered. “What if we can’t find him?”

“Mmm, I’m not sure if that’ll be a problem,” Jester said. “Remember, these dreams all center around Caleb. I’m sure he’s around here somewhere.”

“Do you think he realizes how strangely the world is acting?” Yasha asked. “How there were…you know, holes in the sky and people suddenly appearing and disappearing and how time and, time and space make no sense?”

“Maybe?” Jester tried. “But sometimes in my dreams, weird things happen all the time, and I don’t even notice until I wake up.”

“So you’re saying that he could think that this is all ordinary,” Fjord supplied.

“Exactly.”

He rubbed the sides of his head. “That’ll make things harder, especially if we keep trying the ‘make him realize there’s something wrong’ tactic.”

“He also sort of hates us,” Beau added. “Which might make him less inclined to listen.”

“Yeah,” Nott chimed in, “but that’s only because you keep punching all the important people in his life.”

“Hey, fuck you! They were being dicks.”

“They were kind of spooky,” Jester said. “And one of them was going to torture Yasha.”

“Thank you for punching that one, by the way,” Yasha nodded to Beau. “It was a…a very good punching.”

“Anytime.”

“So...” Fjord said, ignoring that exchange, “this means we’re back at square one.”

“I don’t think we ever left,” Nott mumbled.

“Gods,” Beau sighed, and flopped down onto her back. “Does this mean we’re gonna force him into the bad memories to wake him up, now?”

“I know it sucks,” Fjord said softly, “but it’s all we’ve got.”

“It is good to confront your past,” Caduceus added, “The first step to overcoming your demons, is to face them.”

“Yeah, fine,” Beau grumbled, “but these aren’t my demons. They’re his.”

“So maybe we should overcome his demons for him,” Caduceus suggested.

The wind blew though the leaves and gently ruffled their hair as they all considered this for a moment.

Beau raised a finger. “Are…are you suggesting that we should resolve his internal brain fuckery?” she asked.

“Maybe,” Caduceus shrugged. “It was just an idea. I mean, my dreams are usually guiding me towards something. And so far, we’ve just been moving through Caleb’s memories in chronological order. Maybe he’s being guided towards something…something important in his past? Are there any, I don’t know, any big milestones in the Caleb Story?”

Beau snorted so hard she almost choked. As she took a few seconds to recover, Nott jumped in. “There are,” she said. “Some pretty important ones. But, uh…like we said before, those are the ones that we should really try to avoid.”

“But…” Fjord said slowly, “but what if we didn’t avoid them? But instead of usin’ them to scare or shock Caleb awake, we help him get through ‘em, and earn his trust? Then maybe he’d just listen to us, and we could tell him to come back home.”

“That seems…a little manipulative,” Nott said hesitantly.

“And it would mean he’d still have to get hurt,” Jester protested. “He would still have to face that moment.”

“Right,” Fjord agreed, “but we’d have his back. We’d help him get through it, whatever it is, to let him get better, and at the same time give us a window to convince him outta here.”

“It might also just end the dream at that,” Caduceus said. “If Caleb feels like his work in the mental world is done, then maybe he’d be willing to come back to ours.”

Beau rubbed her chin. “I…uh…I do kind of like the idea of being able to punch Caleb’s brain problems away,” she said slowly.

Yasha nodded. “I do not…entirely follow what is happening,” she admitted, “but I agree with doing something to help him.”

“As long as we’re really helping,” Jester said sternly. “Really and actually helping.”

“And as long as it doesn’t get too bad,” Nott added.

“I don’t think I can guarantee that,” Fjord said weakly, “but I mean…it might be the best option?”

There was a pause, and then a chorus of semi-reluctant agreement.

Beau scratched her elbow, and sighed. “Then the question is how to force him to dream about the shitty stuff. And how we’re supposed to get close enough to help him since, right, since Caleb hates us for some reason that is completely unrelated to my fists.”

“And speaking of that,” Caduceus said, “for, uh, for those of us who don’t really know Caleb’s history, could we maybe go over what we might be expecting? And, uh…how bad it might be?”

Beau and Nott exchanged glances.

“You wanna do it?” Beau asked. “You know him best.”

Nott grimaced, and turned towards the others. “It’s…uh…it’s a long story,” she said. “And sort of complicated, and it kind of ties into the whole ‘crazy stabbing teacher’ thing from before.”

“It’s probably a violation of privacy,” Fjord sighed, “but I think we might need to hear it all.”

She nodded. “You probably do. Okay, so, it started at the Academy, where he and two other kids got picked by Ikithon to be private students…”

“It is amazing that we were even allowed to come out today,” Caleb murmured as they hiked around a fallen log. “I thought for sure that Master Ikithon would tell me I was being ridiculous.”

“He probably figured that you would be useless in lessons if you were so distracted,” Eodwulf quipped, and kicked a pebble across the fallen leaves.

“Thank the gods we’re here instead then,” Astrid laughed. “Otherwise I think I’d get singed again, today.”

“How many times must I apologize to you?” Caleb groaned. “I said that I was sorry, and I promised I’d never do it again, ja?”

“Ja, but it is so fun to tease you.”

Caleb made a face at her, and then tripped over an exposed tree root. Both of his friends considered leaving him there to spit the dirt out by himself, but after a few seconds, Eodwulf grinned and reached out a hand, helping Caleb to his feet. “What happened to the boy that used to run around through the woods?” he asked jokingly. “Have you always been so clumsy?”

“I’ve spent too long in my ivory tower,” Caleb snorted, and brushed his trousers off. “I think it suits me better, anyways. There are no books in these forests.”

“No books,” Astrid agreed, “but I think there might be something else. Do you hear that?”

Both boys quieted down and listened carefully.

“I don’t hear anything,” Caleb whispered. “What—”

“Shhhh!” Eodwulf shot back. “Ja, I do!”

Astrid’s nodded slowly. “There are voices, Caleb. Coming from…the west, I think. There are people in the woods!”

His eyes went wide. But not from fear, or surprise, or shock.

“Do you think they have anything to do with the strange feeling I’ve been having?” he asked, voice rising with excitement. “Do you think they know anything?”

Astrid nodded. “I bet so. And even if they do not, I am sure Master Ikithon would love to meet these trespassers.”

“Thank the gods for that too,” Eodwulf sighed. “We might get a break from concentration training, if we bring them back.”

“In that case, what are we waiting for?” Astrid whispered. “Let’s get them! Same bet as always? Whoever takes out the least has to pay for drinks?”

“Oh, you’re on,” Caleb grinned. “I hope you’ve been saving up, because there is no way I will lose this time. Wulf, are you—”

He turned to his left, just in time to see Eodwulf waggle his fingers cheekily and vanish from view.

“Keep up, losers!” came the disembodied retort. “I plan on getting wasted.”

“Oh, I’ll waste you alright,” Astrid laughed, “Just you wait!”

Caleb shoved a fist into his pocket and yanked out a handful of licorice shavings. “You’ll have to keep up with me!” he declared. “See you all when I’ve won!”

And then he threw the shavings up into the air, muttered a few words, and bolted in a flash of red and brown.

“…but it wasn’t his fault,” Beau finished. There was a hard edge to her tone, of a profound and icy anger. “It wasn’t.”

“Caleb just doesn’t believe that,” Nott murmured. “He thinks it was all on him.”

The rest of the group sat there in silence, trying to process what they had just heard. Fjord stared at the backs of his hands, and Caduceus looked somewhere off into the distance. Jester turned her gaze distractedly to a crumpled maple leaf on the ground. Yasha picked a feather off her shawl, and sighed.

“I would not have guessed,” she said eventually, shattering the pensive quiet. “Not ever.”

“It explains a lot,” Fjord agreed slowly. “His whole thing with…fire, and all that.”

“And why he’s…like how he is,” Caduceus added.

Jester bit her lip. She looked up, and there were tears in her eyes. “But I can’t…I can’t even imagine something so…terrible,” she whispered.

“He didn’t do it,” Nott reminded them immediately. “I mean, he did do it, but he was brainwashed!”

“Yeah,” Fjord said gently, “yeah, I gotcha.”

Jester sniffled. “I know, I know, it’s just…if I knew that all those things had happened, I never would have made fun of him for being so stinky that first time. And I never would have talked about fireballs so much, and I never would have bragged about how rich my momma was, or how much she loved me, or—”

Beau reached out, and wordlessly put her arm around Jester.

“Damn,” said Fjord. “Just…fuck.”

“That’s why we were so worried about what might happen in the dreams,” Nott said. “That’s the thing we didn’t want him to have to go through.”

“We can’t make him live through that again!” Jester said. “No way.”

“But…we would not be,” Yasha reminded her. “If this goes right, then we would be saving his parents, just in time.”

“It’s just…it’s a little more tricky now,” Fjord sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I thought it was…I dunno, I thought we’d have to prevent a buildin’ from burning down, or something. But if y’all are right, then it’s not just about stopping a disaster, it’s also about stoppin’ Caleb. He wanted to…to do what he did. If we interfere, then things could get nasty.”

“I could try healing him,” Jester volunteered. “I could try getting rid of that memory, or something.”

“But the cleric who fixed him in the real world got hit with some kinda nasty spell backlash,” Beau said. “I don’t want that happenin’ to you.”

“So what, then?” Jester asked. “How are we supposed to convince him that his parents are innocent?”

“I’m also a cleric,” Caduceus rumbled. “If you get hurt, I could heal you.”

Jester blinked, and so did the rest of the group. They took a moment to consider this proposal and weigh their other options.

And in that moment, as they did, the entire world went blinding white. An explosion of flame detonated right in the center of their little circle, sending charred earth and burning leaves and clouds of ash careening through the air.

“If you are all going to stand so close together, you will make my job all too easy!”

A sixteen-year-old-boy stood at the edge of the clearing, atop a large boulder. His bright red hair had been swept back by impact of the blast, and long brown coat fluttered in the breeze. His eyes were blue, and sparkled with delight.

“Hallo!” He called cheerfully. Then he smeared something dark across his palm, raised his hands, and called forth another blast of raging fire.

20 Questions with Dr Ferox #21

Looks like it’s time for another round of 20 questions and comments. I’ve tried to tag you all again, but if you asked on Anonymous I have no way of tagging you.

Anonymous said: Do you prefer treating certain animals over others? I'm friends with a few vets and I know one who's pretty much specialized in cats and another who can treat most companion animals but has a strong preference for dogs (good thing dog vet was out hiking with cat vet when cat vet's dog got a face full of porcupine quills lol) .

I do have a preference for cats, we just seem to come to a better mutual understanding, and I'm very softly spoken in person so the cats are less inclined to panic. I used to get along well treating cattle for some reason too, but I'm pretty exclusively in small animal practice these days.

Anonymous said: Does your clinic have a Facebook page? If so - how would you feel if clients posted pictures of their pets to it? My vet recently got my rat through a tough injury and I'd like to post a picture of her now that she's all healed up, but I don't know if that'd be weird or if any of them would even see it.

We love it when it happens. Happy pets with a nice comment on our Facebook page is always welcome. Sometimes we let people email us photos and we post them for us too.

It's perfectly fine for triage, but if somebody brings in an endangered species with a reasonably good prognosis, we'll often recommend it goes to a better equipped clinic for that species. Note very clinic has UV lights for turtles, for example.

To actually break the back would be unusual, but slipping an intervertebral disc so that it prolapses up into the spine is relatively common after jumping off things in tiny dogs.

It's probably more a culture of medicine than anything else, but also probiotics are kind of wishy-washy in terms of clinical evidence. There's some evidence to say they're sometimes very useful, but other times not so much. Keep in mind though that dogs are also much more likely to eat poop from other animals and so will be picking up all sorts of intestinal microflora.

It's hard to know, especially given that I have no way of knowing which country you're in, or what your laws in relation to marijuana are. Certainly there are some veterinarians working on cannabinoid extracts with known concentrations and milligram dosages, but if I was told this locally I would be extremely skeptical.

Christmas or Halloween? Pen or pencil? Sweet or savory?

I really don't do much with zoos and prefer not to analyse them too much through a veterinary lens, because I want to keep them as something fun. Like everything else in life zookeeping is possible to do very well, and possible to do very badly. You could pop across to @why-animals-do-the-thing for more zookeeping connections.

I don't know what to tell you Anon. It's a poor situation for those animals to be in, but I can't tell you anything to make it any better, and as long as their minimum welfare standards are met, the animals can't be seized.

Some clinics equipped for exotics can and will treat snails, but not very often. It's possible to repair small areas of damage to the shell, so long as the body has not been damaged and does not come into contact with any glue or compounds used.

Reason Why

i recently met someone i like. i recently fell in love with a new job. Also, i’ve recent claimed what i owed. i can go on with my recently’s, it’s actually an endless list. But, i’ll tell you why i feel like shit.

the reason why i made sure i get into my brother’s room is to savor my peace, my passion. then again, i forgot that i have other responsibilities. i’ve said, mentioned, emphasized my duties as the youngest. need not to put it in detail. you get the picture. if you cant, let’s just say, there’s no point in putting me to a room if you need me for every single detail.

i can’t savor my reason. seems like i can’t even be alone. i needed this room as a sanctuary. i was going crazy. playing nice, acting ok, facing facts im not ready for. my feet kept bringing to places that just didn’t add up. i kept walking into trouble and places with people who didn’t care. Now, now that i can walk into a small room that did not need permission to stay, it makes me want to just leave.

starting with this room was just a step, a step i wanted to take for a long time. it became a build to settling to a new job. getting motivation, losing a bit of myself because i’m not anxious anymore. there was this lingering feeling that i couldnt shake off. Reason why i feel lethargic, tired, frantic, paranoid,... i feel lonely.

i wanted this. i need this. everything is on track, on point, according to plan. except for the emptiness that i shouldnt be feeling. sometimes, i just want to drink my sorrows away, meet new people, wander a new place, reason why i don’t do it anymore, is because i’ve done my fair share in the past year alone.

my heart mourns for the loneliness, yet i want to be alone for it. my mind yearns for the thought yet all it asks are for the thoughts to stop. my body begs for the touch yet when i’m given the chance, i lose interest. does it make sense?

i’m a walking contradiction of my own choices, of my own decisions. you know what i want? what i really want? clarity. i’ve always believed that fate can bring me to a real, true, honest person that can be mine. i’ve believed that if and when i reach this point, freedom, stability, passion, i’d find the last step. so here it goes, the reason why i’m anxious right now.

i envisioned my life at this point to be intact. a new job that pays rather well, books in queue to be read, a computer set up to write my random stories, and just white walls that makes me want to paint them with random things. if im settled, i wish to have a man to complete them. it’s a plus, i shouldn’t feel lonely. why should i? i got everything i have because of my hard work and i’ve earned it. yet i do. it’s because i always thought i’ll find that person that fits in to what i deserve. i wanted him to be real. i wanted him to want me. i wanted him to be just real enough to be around and wait.

i can’t understand the reason why i won’t just get out there. my social life revolves around my phone. talking to random people, random friends, playing games. my body or mind or maybe my heart just won’t let me take that one quick leap just for a change and i’ve risked already too many to settle for what’s happening. Maybe because i’ve met him or i’m waiting for a fictitious man. im confused. i want it now yet don’t need it. i want to meet him but im not ready. im impatient.

i said that i recently liked someone. i do, he’s real. not in my dreams. yet, some of the things we’ve talked about are too unreal, i believe he’s real. he reminds me that there are still possibilities. real, is real. reason why i like him, because this has been the only guy i liked after Mr. Kid. which was a waste of time. but there’s just some days i think if it’s possible that he and i could’ve been together.

ang taas ng standards ko sa gusto kong maexperience. i just want him to look at me like he doesnt want to lose me. i don’t believe that im every good enough to be with anyone, reason why i don’t believe that fate would give it to me. still, i can’t forget what my friend told me today.

So, I found out today, that State Farm canceled my car insurance. My coverage was good through Feb. 1st. My billing date is also Feb. 1st, but they usually charge me a day or two late. Churchill Car Insurance Problem?

Had accident which was my fault in Nov 08, hit a van in rear that stopped suddenly going through a roundabout (less than 5mph) and his trailer hitch ball went into my radiator and damaged the hood, grill and radiator. Car was 1996 Honda in very reasonable condition, MOT'd and all in good service despite its 125,000 mileage, new tyres, exhaust, battery, and clean throughout. Had fully comprehensive insurance with 50 deductable, loaner car and legal support so paid to be protected. When car was collected from accident, collecting garage said at that time that due to the mileage my car would not be repaired. However it took 5 to 6 weeks for the insurance examiner to determine that my car was beyond repair, so I did without a car all that time. Despite repeated phone calls to them, they never called me back as their examiner was on holiday. Then when we finally agree that a price of 500 for my car in January 08 and that took some haggling, the cheque never and so I started chasing them down in early February. I am then informed that I did not disclose a speeding violation on my application and they would have to listen to the tapes of my applying to verify this. Again this took several weeks, and I again had to pursue them for an answer to which they then said I had applied on the internet so no record of a phone conversation. The internet application was misleading, asking for what I believed was 3 years worth of offenses. I've only ever had 2 speeding offenses in my entire life - both speed cameras, just over the limit. The first was at 6 a.m. and I passed a bus pulling over to stop and as I passed it got flashed. The second on the day I found my dad had days to live and I was rushing to catch a flight, and as in both instances was doing 42 mph in a 30 mph zone for a very short period. Nonetheless, I was speeding and paid my fines. I wrote to the insurance company and apologised for not telling them of the other speeding ticket from 4 years and 9 months earlier as I forgot about it. But I admitted it, and apologised in writing. Then then came back to me saying that there would be additional premium to pay before I would get paid for my car. Well, its October 08, and I finally got a letter from the insurers saying they are not paying me as I failed to pay the additional premium requested and they were not going to renew my policy. I have never been asked even after repeated letters to them how much the additional premium was, and what I should do. No replies. I have asked for my car back which they agreed to pay for, and now they state there is nothing they can do, and it is their final decision. I went to the financial ombudsman and unbelieveably DID NOT get a reply from them. I've even spoken to one of their survey staff who tells me that they are incredibly busy and it was probably put aside and not dealt with. I'm at a total loss as to where I stand and how to pursue this without spending more than the accident and car was worth. I've written to their data protection officer and obtained copies of all documentation pertaining to this, so by their records can verify all this information quite clearly. Finally, I maintained my cool with them at all times. Never once did I raise my voice or become unprofessional with them. My questions are: 1. Can I legally request my car back as it has never been paid for? 2. Were they taking money for policy on a car they knew that through mileage alone, they would never pay for loaner car, or to have repaired? 3. This has meant over 30 letters and more phone calls than that to deal with, and rarely do they call you back or reply at all. Can I claim for this time and distress? 4. Am I totally wasting my time? So! We finally reach the end of this small fic, I hope you all enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! ^^

When the buzzing of your phone woke you up at 3 am you didn’t need to look down at the screen to know it was Stray Kids the ones trying to get you on your phone, specially Jisung who had called you the most.

However, you were to focused drowning in your own sadness to answer any calls or message from any of them since you knew they were all going to beg you to forgive Hyunjin and come to the party. Honestly? You didn’t want to know anything about your boyfriend and the party in that moment. If you hadn't came up with the idea of a surprise party Hyunjin would have never got the idea of you possibly cheating on him with Jisung.

Staring at your phone wasn't going to change anything and answering their calls would only make you cry even more so, what was the best thing to do? Sleep. Sleeping would take all your pain away and make you forgive about every single problem you had at the moment until next morning. So obviously, the next thing you did was turning off your phone, that way nobody would bother your sleep.

All the sobbing and the crying you did earlier with your head buried against your pillow made you feel exhausted enough to fall asleep in seconds, no thoughts in your mind but a tight feeling in your chest thanks to the anxiety and worry.

You had worked so hard for his birthday party and it screwed up everything so fast.

An incredibly strong and pounding headache was what woke Hyunjin up, he had expected the pain after all the crying he did last night, even Minho who slept with him decided to give him so privacy when he noticed Hyunjin's face buried against his pillow trying to muffle the sound of his sobs. With red swollen eyes Hyunjin looked down at his mobile phone where he saw hundreds of notifications from every social media, everybody wishing him a happy birthday.

What hurt more was that no matter hiw hard he wished you wouldn't be too mad he couldn't find a message from you and that was a really clear sign of you being furious. Hyunjin let out a weak sigh, his eyes tearing up a little again. Would you want to break up? He was ready to beg you to stay if he had to. Somehow, he needed to find time today to go to your place and apologize for being the huge idiot he had been.

Sitting up on his bed, Hyunjin's eyes moved up on his phone's screen to look at the time not really surprised when he found it was already 5 pm. He had fallen asleep around 6 am, his head had been too full of worries and his eyes too full of tears to try to sleep earlier. Tosssing his phone aside, he ran hus fingers through his messy hair still not believing the words that got out of his lips last night. He was also unable to forget the hurt look on your face, you basically looked as if he had stepped on you.

How could the thought of you cheating on him with Jisung crossed his mind? Was he insane? You never gave him any reasons to be suspicious about anything, you always tried to spend all off your free time with him. Why did he had to be a jerk this time?

Maybe it was because of the comeback being close, the stress usually made him feel a little frustrated and whiny and seeing you share your free time with him and Jisung wasn't something he had enjoyed too much. You could also blame his jealousy, the way it sometimes killed him when you smiled at Jisung so happily and brightly, the way he seemed to know you as well as he did. Or maybe, it was the stupid fact that he truly thought you had forgot about his birthday and your anniversary what had made him upset.

All of them were truly stupid and childish reasons, not enough to justify what he said last night.

When Chan knocked on his door telling him to get dressed for practice, Hyunjin felt like hiding under the blankets again. He hadn't told any of the guys that you spilled the beans and told him about the surprise party everybody had been preparing for him, he didn't want to screw things up even more.

Getting out of your car you slammed the door so hard that the people walking nearby looked at you as if you had lost your mind, you literally felt like shouting at everybody. Arguing with Hyunjin made you so frustrated that you didn't got mad at only him but at the entire rest of humanity excluding yourself, it was a defense mechanism of yours. First you cried your eyes out and when you felt too weak you let rage and frustration control your body.

There was no way of calming down the frustrated mess you were until you fixed things with your boyfriend and by the things Hyunjin said last night that wasn't happening any time soon.

When you walked through the coffee shop's door ready to start serving some clients you made a bee line towards the back room of the shop to put on your apron and save your purse into your locker, leaving your phone in there. You were about to walk out when a girl -somebody probably new since you didn't recognise her, you were too bad at learning new names and faces-

"Didn't you have things to do today?" She asked, looking as confused as ever.

"Well, isn't it obvious Im not busy anymore since I'm here?" You asked, noticing too late that you had just snapped at her.

"Oh God" She muttered rolling her eyes, walking away "It's one of those days" You looked up, begging God to give you some more patience if he didn't want you to murder somebody today.

Hyunjin could feel the tense atmosphere in the car getting worse and worse the closer they get to the JYP building. By the way the guys were behaving Hyunjin guessed that whatever surprised party they had prepared was going to be celebrated in the practice room but all of them felt tense instead of happy they were all kind of upset instead of nervous to see his friend's reaction and Hyunjin knew that was his fault.

"Her phone is still turned off" He heard Jisung whisper to IN when they walked out of their car.

"Then what do we do?" Woojin asked worried, looking at Jisung. Hyunjin looked down at his shoes acting as if he wasn't listening to them.

"Just tell him she couldn't get out of work" Minho proposed but everybody knew that wasn't convincing enough.

"We all knew she would have showed up if she wasn't mad, (Y/N) worked so hard for this" Felix muttered quietly, Hyunjin felt like crying again "Let's just try to cheer him up a little"

Everybody went back to being quiet and awkwardly look everywhere but him except Jisung, who kept his eyes glued to the phone hoping that you would answer any of his texts or answer one of his missed calls. Little did he know you were too busy serving customers to worry about your phone.

Hyunjin's mood just got worse when they arrive to the practice room.

Changbin was the first to walk inside and turn on the lights making a lot of people shout 'Happy birthday' to him as they threw all kinds of confetti and colorful balloons up in the air. He had to smile to not be a mood killer but he obviously felt like going back to the dorms when he noticed you weren't there waiting for him.

He observed the guy's decoration but deep down he knew you had been the one to organise everything. All the room was filled with balloons, there was a table with all the presents for him and another with his favorite types of snack and sandwiches. But you weren't there to eat with him.

Things got even worse when he opened all his presents, the guys had bought him the camera he had been dying to get, the one he's been talking about for weeks with you. But you still weren't there to let him take pictures of you.

He finally reached the bottom when the guys showed him the surprise they had prepared for you and him. They had sticked on a wall hundreds of pictures of you and him together, from the first picture you took when you were still friends to the most recent one in another of your dates. Hyunjin's eyes filled with tears when he looked at your smile, the memory of how hurt you looked last night breaking him.

Hyunjin needed you by his side, he wasn't going to lose you just because he was too proud to apologize. Turning around, he walked through the slightly crowded room until he reached the door but before he could grt away Jisung stopped him.

"Here, take this" Smiling he offered Hyunjin some flowers and two pieces of cake "We were planning to give her the flowers but I think she'll prefer if you give it to her" Hyunjin opened his mouth to say something, to thank him but to also apologise to Jisung at the same time but before he could say something and waste more time Jisung pushed him out of the practice room “It’s late, she probably has the closing shift so you better hurry if you want to catch her there”

When the last costumer walked out of the shop with a steamy black coffee in his hands you couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh, it wasn’t hard to convince your boss to let you close the store tonight since he probably saw how desesperate to stay you were tonight. The first thing you did was clean each of the tables inside, then you moved to clean the counter getting rid of the chocolate and coffee stains that had got there during the whole day and finally you started sweeping the floor. Normally, if you were in a good mood, you would have been humming one of Hyunjin’s songs, probably playing it on your phone as you danced around with a broom in your hands.

The overwhelming silence in the shop made the sound of the bell louder when somebody opened the door. You turned around, a small fake smile on your lips as you were ready to tiredly yet politely inform the client that the shop was closed already but all the words got stuck in your throat when you found Hyunjin standing there. He looked at you nervously, hiding something behind him as his lips slightly shake due to him smiling awkwardly at you.

“Surprise, surprise” He whispered, studying your face, thinking about his next move “I....The party was...We….” He stopped his own sentences, not really finding the exact words he wanted to use “Can we sit down and talk?” He asked sighing, his pleading eyes being too much for you to reject him again.

“Take a seat” You said letting go of the broom and sitting down on one of the chairs, Hyunjin walked closer to you, choosing to sit down on the one that was across from yours. He looked incredibly nervous and you hated to see him that way, actually, you were kind of relieved to see he had came back to apologise and that he had realised you would never do something like cheating to him “How was the party?” You asked with a small smile on your lips.

Hyunjin smiled in return before he placed a plate with two big pieces of chocolate cake on the table along with two plastic spoons Jisung had slid into his pocket “If you had been there it would have been absolutely perfect” He replied honestly, handing you one of the spoons so both of you could eat the cake.

“Did you like your present? The guys and I were pretty excited to give you the camera” Hyunjin nodded looking down, you could see his lower lip shaking softly as he avoided eye contact with you “Hyunjin?” You spoke softly, leaning down a little to try and see him but he managed to avoid your eyes once again “Hyunjin look at me” He shook his head quietly, not listening to you “Babe” You had expected him to be upset, but seeing Hyunjn crying? That’s something you couldn’t stand.

When you stood up tears started falling down his cheeks, he didn’t need you to tell him what you wanted to do. Hyunjin quietly stood up and let you wrap your arms around his body, his face buried against your neck as he started crying quietly.

“I’m so sorry” He whispered sobbing silently “I lost it...I didn’t know what I was talking about...I was such a jerk to you (Y/N), I should-”

You cut him off by pressing your lips against his gently, tasting his salty tears as you fell him relax as soon as you squeezed his hands reassuringly. Hyunjin let go of your hands to wrap his arms around you, pulling you against his body “I truly don’t deserve you” He whispered against your lips, nuzzling the crook of your neck “Thanks for standing the idiot I am for this whole year together (Y/N), I hope I can spend more years getting on your nerves and making you smile” Both of you chuckled at his statement

After both of you exchanged apologies and sweet yet loving words, you sat down next to Hyunjin finally receiving the flowers he had been hiding as you cheesily fed each other cake.

Even though a silly misunderstanding almost screwed up your relationship, make up cake and cheesy kisses were better tan any apology and party in this world
