Hacking Katsuki Bakugou’s Last Remaining Brain Cell: I’ve only had this chapter for like three waking hours but if anyone even looks at my son the wrong way I will use my fucking toes to drag them out by their hair
I haven’t had my caffeine yet and it’s about to show, but thAT AIN’T STOPPING ME FROM READING KATSUKI’S MIND
Okay I have a lot of feelings and predictions formulating about this chapter and I wanna give most of them more time to stew (and more time to, like, get a good night’s sleep), but y’all are underestimating my genius perfect son and I will not stand for this slander
Here’s chapter 360, I’m not even gonna copy the translations over here for each page, I’m just gonna sometimes assume you have it memorized or can read Japanese for the purposes of this post look I warned you I am sleep-deprived as fuck already and you should know what my sleep-deprived posts can be like
First of all, let me just say, I was right...
Tumblr media
AFO was definitely trying to psych Katsuki out of his fucking mind. All his taunting this chapter was in the service of breaking Katsuki’s spirit;
Tumblr media
I was right, this is the fucking question of the goddamn day;
Tumblr media
and I’ve got you the answer to this question now.
Tumblr media
Everything in this opening scene is a callback to the final exam arc I’ll have you know. I woke up realizing that “uru-” Katsuki gets out is actually him probably trying to say “shut up!” just like he did when he was under All Might’s boot.
Tumblr media
As I was falling asleep last night, it occurred to me that this moment is just meant to be a visual representation of Katsuki experiencing a “hallucination of death” in the face of the Symbol of Fear. Nothing in this scene happens in reality.
Tumblr media
(I shall hereby refer to this scan as Page 3.)
HOWEVER
HOW.
FUCKING.
EVER.
THIS IS THE PAGE THAT’S CAUGHT MY EYE.
Tumblr media
{And this all-important page is now named Page 4.)
I know it looks like Katsuki is having a heart attack on the spot, that he’s being humbled and crushed like a bug as Tomura rubs his face in all his worst fears, that his facial expression is one of abject horror and humiliation.
But you’re wrong.
It turns out these two pages in conjunction are MASSIVELY IMPORTANT HOOOOOOMGGGGHHHGHHHH
Tumblr media
THIS. THIS FUCKING THING WAS DRIVING ME NUTS FROM THE MOMENT I SAW THIS PAGE.
That’s artistic shorthand for a realization.
What the fuck did he realize? Seems fucking important since that’s the last clear picture of his face we get before the final page of the chapter!
Tumblr media
And yeah, I see some of you have already identified that in the page before, Katsuki is exhibiting some DISTINCTLY Izuku-like behavior: mumbling battle analysis.
Tumblr media
But did you pay attention to the content of that analysis?
Right
Fingers
Feint
Sound familiar?
...
If you said Deku vs Kacchan (any part), you’re wrong.
(Here’s the part where I show you how fucking wild my sleep-deprived brain is.)
Page 3 and Page 4. These motherfucking pages.
Page 4 has one line--said by Tomura: “No matter how far you go, you’re OFA’s (read as: Izuku Midoriya’s) goldfish excrement.”
And while now I know that’s an idiom, at the time all I could think about was
Tumblr media
these fish fuckers.
And I looked up this panel in Japanese to see if he says anything about fish crap, but no, he says “That’s not bait/a lure” or whatever.
But the word he used, for no good reason, reminded me of...
Tumblr media
Kamino.
And that’s when I realized.
Page 3, AFO says, “You admired All Might [in the moment] just when he wins, right? Let’s see the reality, Katsuki Bakugou.”
Katsuki already has seen the reality.
Tumblr media
Katsuki’s spark of realization this chapter was in response to AFO’s remark about the reality of All Might’s moments of victory. That’s what gives him the realization that snaps him out of his hallucination of death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katsuki’s doing the same thing All Might did. He’s learning from Izuku.
Tumblr media
That’s why he’s dropping into battle analysis mode.
Katsuki is in a debilitated state just like All Might was. He’s facing the same degradation AFO used against All Might then.
The final word of large text, “mada,” on chapter 360′s final page is the same as this one here
Tumblr media
except this page adds “shinen no da!!!!” which means “can’t die.”
“I can’t die yet.”
And we all know death = losing.
Tumblr media
Katsuki is focused on the reality of what victory looked like for All Might in Kamino, the same event that he harbors massive internalized guilt over. He’s working through his guilt. He’s accepting All Might won despite what Katsuki feels he made All Might turn into. He’s turning that moment into his power.
“Right...fingers...feint.”
All Might used his broken right arm as a decoy to hit All For One with his left arm. Then he switched back to his right arm and “put his back into” the finishing blow.
Katsuki’s right arm is broken right now.
Tumblr media
It’s his turn.

Some observations on this post discussing Izuku and All Might's relationship:
A notable thing about the scene where All Might and Izuku talk about Nighteye’s prophecy: when All Might says that Izuku inspired him to live, there are a series of flashbacks. And... for the most part, they’re not about times they had any emotionally close moments. We don’t see the heart-to-heart after Izuku cleans the beach, or All Might thanking Izuku for saving him at USJ. The anime shows a shot of the beach hug after Kamino, but the manga does not. Instead, the focus is on Izuku’s hero journey. They show times when Izuku pushed himself to his limits and refused to give up.
Tumblr media
Izuku inspired him the same way he did at the beginning of the story. Even after so much time has passed and so much has changed, they still influence each other the same way: through their shared heroic goals.
Another thing that has always struck me is that, although Izuku’s example helped All Might find the strength to live in this specific instance... for the most part, Izuku’s inspiration has not been a good thing for All Might. In fact, that’s one of the things that fascinates me about their relationship: they are so good for each other, and yet so incredibly bad for each other at the exact same time. They relentlessly amplify each other’s worst traits, and end up becoming obstacles to each other that need to be overcome as part of their respective character arcs.
With Izuku, this is blatant: he’s held back by his tendency to imitate All Might. The story spells this out when he trains with Gran Torino and when he develops Shoot Style. In addition, All Might praises Izuku’s thoughtless, self-destructive tendencies over and over, “inspiring” Izuku to recklessly endanger himself to the point of permanent physical injury. This all comes to a head in the Villain Hunt arc, when Izuku decides to emulate All Might’s lone wolf tendencies too, and drives himself to the brink. Bakugo explains their dysfunctional dynamics really well in chapter 319.
Tumblr media
I think All Might’s internal dialogue in chapter 317 is the closest we’ve ever gotten to a "parental" mindset: he’s worried about Izuku more than he's worried about Izuku's heroic duty. But, it never properly manifests. As Bakugo predicts, even though All Might starts to realize the harm in the path he’s sent Izuku down, he is not the one to correct it and help guide Izuku to a healthier place: instead, class 1-A comes to the rescue. And later, as Journal's post points out, he gives exactly zero useful feedback when the two of them reunite.
Anyway, my point was that All Might also suffers from their interactions. Think about where he is at the start of the story: He’s injured, he will need to retire soon, he is clearly struggling with his new limits and having trouble finding a healthy balance. But now, enter this kid. Izuku’s “inspiration” embodies everything All Might should be avoiding: reckless abandon, pushing past limits, self-injury and self-sacrifice. And every time All Might draws on this “inspiration,” it’s to do something that further harms his health and damages his time limit, instead of trying to find some other solution, perhaps one that involves collaborating with others and sharing his burden. In fact, he became discouraged from changing his ways, because he needed to be a “good” example for his successor. He had to put on a strong front more than ever, even as it destroyed him.
Yes, Izuku motivated him to keep going and survive his fight with AFO. But how much of that fight happened the way it did because All Might insisted on modeling his hero persona far beyond when he should have, steadily weakening himself, insisting on fighting AFO alone instead of admitting to the other heroes that he was running on less than an hour of time and he might not be able to save the day without help? That “inspiration” saved him, but I’d argue that it was a large part of the reason why he got into such a horrible situation in the first place.
And again, Izuku wasn’t the one to help All Might overcome this problem. Instead, it was Aizawa, impressing on All Might the need to keep on living.
Although Izuku and All Might's relationship has changed over the series, I'd argue that this happened despite their interactions, not because of them. They tend to keep each other locked into rigid, role-based dynamics, and aside from their initial meeting and the granting of OFA, it’s by and large the other characters in the series who have helped them grow and change. Fingers crossed that All Might’s revelation in chapter 317 bears fruit in some way... but so far, that hasn’t happened yet.

My favorite thing ever is Cody being protective over Anakin for some fucking reason so can we get an AU where Cody’s relationship with Obi-Wan (friendship or bangin idc but they obviously sleep in the same bed at the temple and Anakin has found them being domestic in the mornings far too often to be phased anymore) ends up saving the republic when Ani is all ‘I have to confide in SOMEONE that I’m married-‘ and tells Cody on impulse one day and Cody is all ‘lmao I know ur master is still upset he wasn’t invited to the wedding, he wanted to walk you down the aisle’ and Anakin galaxy brains and realizes the Chancellor is manipulating him for some reason and asks Cody what the kids on Kamino did when they were in private lessons with instructors to look for some sort of mentorship there and Cody completely knocks him off his feet when he’s all ‘oooof the scientists stopped letting us have private lessons after one too many of the vod’e started bedwetting, you know?’ ‘Bedwetting?’ ‘Yeah, apparently sudden bedwetting is a sign of being… like… molested? I guess… why are you asking?’ And Ani is just sitting there for a solid minute remembering all the blanked out days he had as a 12-15 year old when Obi was suddenly taking him to the healers once a month trying to figure out what could make his healthy Padawan suddenly end up needing pull ups for a few years straight and why Ani wasn’t having good dreams and is he okay-
He def throws up. Bonus points, Palpatine didnt even have to molest him for bedwetting yo happen cause it also happens with nightmares and man’s coulda spent three solid years planting bad thoughts and darksider instincts in his head and leaving him to think on it while he slept and the healers just couldn’t figure out why he was suddenly so nervous all the time.
Anyways. Cody’s just tryin to bond with his bro’s kiddo when they suddenly uncover a world of fucked up intent being forced into the kid’s head and now Cody is assigning a group of clones to shadow Anakin around while he talks with Fox on exactly WHY Fox hates Palpatine so much and ‘can you spy on the guy for me, see if he’s paying a little too much attention to kids plz and thanks’ and honestly that’s like. My fave way for Palpatine to be fucked over in the war. Just accuse him of spending too much time with kids. Mention it’s borderline wild that Fox hates him so much yet Fox spends the most time with him. Just. Accuse him so much it completely destroys any reputation he might have and throw him in a hole he can’t get out of.
I just think it’d be super funny if Palpatine loses cause cancel culture got him by the wrinkly ballsack and squeezed.

I think I'm going to play devil's advocate today and raise a couple of counterpoints to this "All Might is a victim of society" thing that I see floating here and there and everywhere and that strikes me as quite the exaggeration, if not an outright misreading of the character. Of all the possible descriptors I imagine one could attach to All Might, 'victim' really doesn't seem a fitting one to me. The Symbol of Peace, intended as this lone and indestructible beacon of hope and protection, is not and never was a role imposed on him by the powers that be (the Commission, the public, whoever). It is very much All Might's own creation, born out of a desire to be a guiding light of sorts (as he states during his conversation with Endeavor after Kamino), a desire he harbored at least since his adolescence. A personal dream that he managed to pursue, thanks to Nana's help, by attending a proper hero school, then furthering his education abroad, then almost instantly climbing to the top of the Japanese Hero Chart as soon as he came back home.
All Might's life, from the day he received his quirk all the way to roughly the age of 50, is one of resounding success. He is strong, rich, famous, loved, worshipped, and most importantly, as far as we know, happy. I would like to note that, to my knowledge, there is absolutely zero indication, not a single line of dialogue anywhere, that implies that any part of his adult life up until the injury was in any way disagreaable to him. The closest we get to such a claim is again during the conversation with Endeavor, when he speaks with regret of the connections and kindness he rejected in order to uphold his Symbol, but he is specifically referring to his rejection of Nighteye there, something that happened after the injury, and whose recent death probably spurred him to reconsider some things he had never paid proper attention to before. I am also brought to think that All Might considers his pre-injury life a good, even a desirable one simply on the grounds of his decision to entrust One For All to Izuku. If he really thought that his own life was so terrible, dehumanizing and burdensome, why on earth would he encourage a random kid to follow his own footsteps by having the same quirk, going to the same school, becoming the same Symbol? That would be rather cruel, wouldn't it? Dragging this poor, naive child into such a huge and self-destructive endeavor for the sake of protecting society, a bit of a manipulative move too. No, I strongly believe that the only negative part of All Might's life, as he sees it, are the years following his injury: the injury ruined everything - his health, his career, almost ruined his Symbol - All For One ruined everything. But now that All For One is (ostensibly) gone, nothing would stand in Izuku's way, no one would ever be able to hurt the kid as much as All Might was hurt, so it stands to reason that this kid will achieve his dream, protect society and have a splendidly satisfying life all in one fell swoop. A sweet deal for everyone involved. One could argue his loneliness was the unmentioned price he had to pay for his successful career. I would argue that that is more of a headcanon than anything else, as there is no indication he ever even craved deep interpersonal connections of sorts. Before the injury, All Might never really had reasons to shy away from friendship or even romance, had he truly wished to pursue them, because he had nothing substantial to hide. And yet, even his professional acquaintances are bare-bones throughout his entire life. With a single, presumably very pushy exception, he never took any sidekicks, because his overpowered quirk made him more than capable of handling any crisis on his own and therefore he didn't see the use of having any support. He did not speak with Endeavor, the number 2 hero, for 10 whole years before the beginning of the series. He didn't even personally know Hawks, the number 3 hero, before the War. His networking is non-existent, even among the best of pros. There was no reason for him to isolate himself so even from his own colleagues, unless he himself simply wasn't that eager to socialize in the first place. His loneliness is very much self-imposed as far as we know, and not something he ever implied regretting or disliking. Which also brings up the huge problem of the Symbol of Peace as All Might built it, the fact that it is one and alone. He is on a pedestal indeed, but one of his own making, and one that he never felt compelled to share. What I consider All Might's most admirable trait as well as his most crucial flaw is his overwhelming urge to act. This trait is strictly tied to the extreme simplicity of his dream, a dream that, interestingly, never really changed since his adolescent days. All Might wanted to be a Symbol, and acted in order to become that, every minute of every hour of every day of his life. His singleminded, adamant, indefatigable purpose is what allowed him to become the number 1, a feat that arguably wouldn't have been possible, had his dream been more complex and nuanced. Other people would have hesitated, stopped to think about their image, their legacy, their social impact, the very meaning of the Symbol they were trying to become and its obvious shortcomings, and they would have held back, or reconsidered, or given up. All Might kept going and going and going, and achieved the unachievable, with sheer willpower and strength and optimism. This is his greatest, ultimate, stunning achievement, but it isn't one without issues. Because in all his eagerness to build the Symbol and to be Symbol, doing what needed to be done right in the moment and without hesitation, he never stopped to plan an 'aftermath' of himself. All Might never had a 'backup plan', or any plans to leave a legacy to uphold the peace he created, not until long after the injury. He might have died during that first fight against All For One, and society would have been in deep shit. His astonishing feats in the present are weighted down by a staggering lack of foresight for the future. And that, again, is on him, not on society and not on the commission and not on the powers that be, because he made himself into one of those powers. He made himself into a leader - moral leader of a society, economic leader of a one-man hero agency, almost spiritual leader of a whole country - and failed in one of the most important tasks a leader should shoulder, which is to ensure that all that he achieved isn't solely tied to his personal charisma and will and skill (which only last as long as one's lifespan), but to prepare a system, an apparatus, a network of people and structures to support what's been built past one's own lifetime. But, as I already pointed out, All Might did the exact opposite, by isolating himself for no justifiable reason and by thinking that society would only ever need one light. If society and the commission are certainly at fault for falling for the comfortable illusion of the One Indestructible Symbol, All Might is no less at fault for crafting it. Again, of his own will, according to his own aspirations. The only thing All Might is a victim of, here, is getting ensnared in a trap of his own making. And when the time to step down came, in the shape of a gaping wound in his side, he was completely unprepared, and utterly unwilling to even consider any solution that wasn't... to just keep doing what he always did, without any changes. As he states after the first battle training at UA, he is genuinely and firmly convinced that the Symbol of Peace and One For All are the only things preventing society from falling to evil. A very debatable stance to begin with, which may have been true back when All For One was around, One For All being the only quirk in existence that the Symbol of Fear couldn't steal, and therefore the only one capable of holding its own against All For One in battle. But after All For One got (ostensibly) killed, there's no reason to assume some other heroes with some other quirks couldn't serve as protectors just as well. There is a certain edge of illogical arrogance in All Might's assertion here, which I rarely see properly discussed, and it pains me, because it adds wonderful depth to the common portrayal of shy, bumbling, insecure Toshinori Yagi I see in most fics (or at least most of the fics I read). It is also interesting that Nezu brings up the idea of All Might becoming a teacher and picking a successor right away, but it will be 5 whole years until All Might eventually caves in and does that. Five years he could have employed to pick a successor immediately, train him in less of a hurry and properly introduce him to society at large, making the whole passing-down-the-torch process a lot less stressful for everyone involved. But instead he waits, or rather procrastinates on a patently inevitable decision, which simply means he kept going and going and going, he kept acting all by himself, until he was literally too run down to continue. A person dissatisfied in any measure with their own life would have seized the chance to step down earlier, after enduring much less grueling difficulties, but he did not. Presumably because, again, he likes saving people, being a hero, doing his job, and held onto that desire to act, to do, to be the Symbol for as long as he could. Once again, a noble and admirable trait that turns viciously against him and that is still tormenting him during the current events of the series, even in spite of all the self-reflection he's gone through. In all fairness, one could argue that this exaggerated performativeness might have been the result of some sort of psychological overcompensation for his quirkless upbringing in a society that looked down on the quirkless as basically worthless people. I would argue that this, however, is very much a headcanon too: we know precious little of All Might's upbringing and youth, and there's no clear measure of how severe quirkless discrimination was back in his day (in fact, there's surprisingly vague indication of how much of a thing quirkless discrimination actually is even during the present days of the story). Even so, while it is unreasonable to blame an adolescent boy for harboring simplistic and unsustainable dreams and ideals, one would expect some degree of maturity and intellectual development to temper those early dreams into something more sensible over the course of a man's whole life. But there he is, at 50 years of age and with two vital organs missing, still trying to incarnate the exact same ideal he aspired to be at 14. There certainly is some dramatic irony in hearing this same man, five years later, preach to Izuku about the importance of having realistic expectations for one's life. Some lessons were learned, but too little and too late. I can imagine someone making the point that All Might's self-imposed loneliness was not a deliberate choice, but a natural consequence of some sort of overblown martyr complex that didn't allow him to claim any time for himself or for any activity that didn't directly involve saving people. To this I would reply that All Might doesn't seem to value his time exclusively on the grounds of, uh, people-saved-per-minute. The Symbol of Peace always had a very strong media presence, he is very often seen indulging journalists, releasing interviews, appearing in public events (even after the injury, when rationally he ought to have been especially conservative with his muscle form time). That stuff eats up time, and has no immediate benefit on anyone's wellbeing, yet again there's no dialogue or statement on his part anywhere in canon to indicate he was forced into that, or that he disliked the practice. In fact, having a strong public image was likely pivotal to building the mythos of the Symbol of Peace, and therefore instrumental to his purpose as well. Networking would fall under the same category of time investment. Training sidekicks, cooperating with other major heroes, even having friends and close associates that could benefit from his spotlight to carry out transversal good deeds across society would have been an equally worthy pursuit, instead of sticking to his one-man-army schtick. Not to mention the fact that such close associates would be key components in this fundamental legacy he was supposed to leave, and which he never properly set up. Frankly, I cannot see a single reason that would lead him (or the Commission, or anyone) to believe that deliberately not building a whole ecosystem of like-minded people around him could possibly be good for society, in the long run. But alas, All Might always and only seemed interested into inspiring people from a distance, and was always more focussed on an urgent present rather than on a nebulous future. All in all, I can only reinstate that 'victim' seems a huge misnomer for a character like All Might. He got to do what he loved for most of his life, and the hardships he faced in his latest years were largely due to his own choices. There certainly is a great deal of external pressure on him to maintain his image, but, as I've already said, he's the one who shaped that image in the first place, with its apparent invulnerability and mythical scope. His purpose shaped the Symbol of Peace into the collective mind of society, not the other way around. And, I mean, if you're looking for 'victims of society' as I intend them, the story offers you a perfect and evident example. Look no further than Hawks, a child basically bought by the government from a messed up family and trained since a tender age, all to be molded into a likeable, skilled and marketable upholder of justice. Now that's someone who got thrust into a role and potentially brainwashed into liking it. None of this applies to All Might, and I frankly find it a little insulting towards his character, his agency, his morals, his drive to imply that he might simply be a nice dude, too pure for this world, stuck in a bad place he doesn't deserve nor likes, when he in fact dedicated his whole life to getting exactly where he is, with effort, pride and willpower. I feel I should point out that this lengthy spiel doesn't mean that I agree with exaggerated, out-of-character, bashing-like portrayals of All Might's flaws and role in the post-Kamino decay of society. I don't even read All Might-bashing fics, they're the exact opposite of what I look for. But I very often drop Dadmight fics for the exact opposite reason, because those (among other things) tend to overlook the very active role he had in causing his own problems, and to externalize the very high standards he has for himself so that, in the end, society as a whole comes to expect the same from him, and I feel that that really... takes away a lot from his character. So many of his virtues are double-edged swords that end up hurting him as well as the people around him, and it feels reductive to minimize that damage (or outright ascribe 90% of it to third parties) just because his heart is in the right place. A great deal of mistakes and damage can stem from the best intentions, and that is a very thought-provoking and fascinating concept to explore. The stark duality and complexity of his character is exactly what makes All Might my favorite character of the show, and by a mile. Don't reduce him to a victim, or a saint, or a villain. He's so much more than any one of those things.

"Sun and Rain Part 2: Age of the Empire"
Chapter 3
"Aftermath"
A "Bad Batch" fanfic!
Pairing: Hunter x fem OC, Echo (more best friend pairing)
A/N: I apologize for the end of the last one, my lovelies 😅😅 Man, I've been on a great writing streak this week! It's nice having a bit of free time at work to write...and it's easier when half of what I'm writing is already written for me 😜 lol
The adventure continues back on Kamino! There are a couple parts from the episode I skipped over just a little for the sake of brevity and so I'm not rewriting literally everything 😜 I hope you guys are liking how I'm weaving Kimber and everything with her into the already established canon 😁 I know I sure am!
Also, this chapter and the next couple chapters that are still involving episode 1 are going to be a little longer so I'm not breaking up just one episode into a bunch of chapters, so I'm trying to condense things a bit!
Enjoy!!

《 Chapter 2
》 Chapter 4
All chapters (Part 2) (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Explanation: After the events on Kaller, the Bad Batch are called back to Kamino, where they find things are very different and a surprise meeting awaits them all.
Tumblr media
“Kim? Hey, Kim, wake up.”
Kimber found herself lying down on Hunter’s bunk with the blanket over her, stirring awake at the sound of someone saying her name. She hadn’t realized that, while she’d sat in there contemplating a few things, she had laid down on the bed and passed out. Now, she was groggily readjusting back to the world around her and Echo’s face came into view.
“I didn’t even realize I fell asleep,” she told him, rubbing her eyes. “How long was I out?”
“A couple hours,” he told her, taking a knee beside the cot. “Hunter came back to check on you and found you asleep, so we decided to leave you be for a bit.”
Hearing that, she looked down at the blanket that was over. She definitely didn’t recall pulling the blanket over her when she’d laid down. Had Hunter done that when he’d come in?
“You okay?” Echo asked her.
“Yeah,” she said. “What about you?”
“I’m all right. Just still processing everything,” he admitted.
“I think we all are. No one understands what happened on Kaller and honestly, that worries me,” she told him.
“Me too. I’ve never heard of Order 66 and I used to read the reg manuals for fun,” he said.
That got a snicker from her. “Did you really?”
He nodded. “Believe it or not, I used to be a real stickler for the rules.”
“Yet look who you ended up with,” she pointed out, amused.
“I know, I never would’ve imagined such a thing a couple years ago.”
“Do you have any regrets about it?”
“I don’t, no. The Bad Batch made an offer to me at a time when I felt lost on what to do and where to go after my imprisonment. It felt like the right decision for me and I’m grateful to be here. Besides, I wouldn’t have met you if I hadn’t.”
That brought a smile to her face. “Very true,” she said. Then she sat up, swung her legs over the side of the bed and rested her arms on her knees, letting her head hang down.
“Kimber, what’s wrong?” Echo asked her.
“How was Crosshair?” she asked, a light hesitancy in her voice.
He answered, “He’s been quiet mostly, though that’s nothing new. He did question Hunter on if he was sure the Padawan was dead. I don’t know why he seems so keen on that.”
Kimber ran a hand over her face exasperatedly. It hadn’t just been a strange turn in behavior on Kaller. Crosshair was still acting odd. She didn’t like that at all.
“Something’s been off with him since we heard about Order 66 and I don’t know what it is. It makes me feel uneasy,” she confided in him. She looked up, leaned forward and put her hands on his face. “Please, Echo, promise me that you won’t drift away from me, too.”
His expression crinkled in astonishment. “What are you talking about?” he inquired.
“Hunter has been eluding me for months and now, Crosshair seems different, too,” she explained, her voice slightly trembling. “Maybe with him, it’s just temporary, but I hate that things between me and the two of them have changed and not for the better. I feel like we’re drifting apart. You’re my best friend and I couldn’t bear it if that happened with you, too.”
Echo reached up and took one of her hands with his good hand and grasped it tightly. “I won’t leave you, Kim. I can’t speak as to why Hunter and Crosshair are behaving the way they are, but as for me, I will never leave you, I promise.”
Just then, they heard the ship’s intercom system chime and they looked up as they heard Tech’s voice informing them, “We’re coming up on Kamino.”
Turning back to Kimber, Echo stated, “Remember: it’s you and me against the world, Kim. That’s never going to change, even when things in the galaxy or in the squad are changing. You can count on that.”
Mustering up a grateful smile, Kimber responded to him, “Thanks, Echo. I needed that.”
Then he stood up, pulling up on the hand which he held and helped her up off of the bed. After that, the two of them left the bunk and retreated back into the cabin of the ship, where they could see Kamino getting closer. Kimber had a sour taste in her mouth at seeing the planet again.
“How long has it been?” asked Wrecker.
Tech responded in his usual way, “One-hundred and eighty rotations in a standard cycle, but galactic zone changes put the adjusted figure at around two-hundred and five.”
“What?” Wrecker questioned, having not followed anything Tech had said.
Echo simplified it for him with a sigh, “A long time.”
That made more sense to Wrecker and he responded with, “You got that right.”
“Though, not long enough for my liking,” Kimber thought to herself.
Right away, things seemed to be different on Kamino, as well, as they were told to submit their clearance code upon entering the planet’s rainy atmosphere, which was out of the ordinary for them. Tech supposed that it must be a protocol drill of some kind and transmitted the clearance code anyway. They were cleared for landing and told which landing platform to proceed to. Though, seeing the looks the Clones were all giving each other, Kimber got the feeling that they were as unsure about everything as she was. They flew through the storm until they reached Tipoca City and landed on the platform they’d been told to go to.
Just as they were about to get off the ship, Kimber commented nervously, “I think I’m...just going to leave my helmet on. I don’t need more people staring at me or making a fuss at seeing me here.”
The Clones knew that by “people”, she mostly meant Kaminoans. Namely, Lama Su, Nala Se or Taun We.
However, Hunter approached her and told her, “No. You have as much right to be here as we do. I won’t have you hiding yourself away. You’re a part of this squad and everyone here needs to see it and know it.”
Touched by his sudden show of conviction, she relented and stowed her helmet under her arm like the rest of them. “All right then,” she replied.
With that, Hunter lowered the ramp to the ship and the Bad Batch walked out onto the platform, looking around at all the regs wandering in and out of the platform. Almost all of them were in stark white Clone armor...except for a group in red and white armor which they all recognized.
“Shock troopers? What’s the Coruscant Guard doing here?” Hunter asked aloud.
Then, after hearing an announcement made over the intercom system that a level five lockdown was in effect, Tech observed with a tiny amount of astonishment, “This isn’t a drill.”
“Oh man, what did we miss now?” Wrecker complained.
“The end of the war,” answered one of the Coruscant Guard Clones coming towards them.
“Say again, Trooper,” stated Hunter.
The guard stopped in front of them and explained, “General Grievous was defeated on Utapau. The Separatist leadership has collapsed. The war is over.”
“Just like I said,” stated Tech.
Wrecker gasped and exclaimed, “It is just like you said!”
Those last four words from the guard were ones Kimber never believed she’d ever hear. It seemed surreal to even be hearing them now…though she felt nothing. At any other time, she would’ve celebrated the war finally ending, but given everything that had just taken place, things were different now.
To only add to her conflicted feelings, there was a stretcher being carried by some Clones in front of them covered in a sheet, clearly with a body concealed underneath it. However, as it passed by, a lightsaber fell from inside, clattering to the ground. Kimber couldn’t suppress a tiny gasp and she exchanged disheartened looks with the others at once again, another reminder of the elimination of the Jedi…of Order 66.
Yes, the war was over…but at what cost?
“Is there a problem?” asked the guard.
“No problem,” Hunter clarified. “We’ll just head to our barracks then.” Then he gestured with his head for the others to follow.
“Best hurry. There’s a mandatory general assembly at 1500,” the guard informed them as they walked away.
As they made their way through the brightly-lit halls of Kamino, Hunter couldn’t help but observe the changes in behavior from all of the regs, not just the ones from Kaller. Even Kimber had the suspicion that things felt different there. After attempting to speak to one of them and getting a cold, rough reaction, Tech felt that they still seemed the same as always. Not letting that deter them, they continued on until they reached their barracks.
“Good to be back!” Wrecker proclaimed as he set his helmet down by the doorway.
“The smell’s getting worse,” commented Echo.
“Probably because you lads have a tendency to not clean up very much,” Kimber said with a smirk.
“You guys are still new. You’ll get used to it,” Hunter told them.
Crosshair then shoved his way forward between Hunter and Echo, saying with a sneer, “Speak for yourself.”
“Well, I’ll get the board,” Wrecker stated, taking out his giant vibroblade and cutting in marks on the wall.
Kimber found it curious that they hadn’t pointed that out to her before, but she discerned rather quickly that it was a victory versus failure board for their missions. Naturally, there were no marks under the side for failure and numerous tallies under the victory side. The rest of the squad walked in and went to different parts of the room. Echo and Hunter sat at the table in the middle, Tech went over to his workstation and Crosshair sat on one of the crates in front of his bunk. Kimber decided to go towards the back and sat on one of the sofas, the very one she’d slept on the last time they had been here. She turned and looked out the window at the storm raging outside as a flood of memories of this room washed over her…her coming back after Lama Su had insulted her, being unable to sleep, Hunter trying to comfort her as she stood by the window…him inadvertently admitting that he wanted her with him…and their first kiss…then a feeling of melancholy replaced the nostalgia of the moment. That all seemed like a lifetime ago and now, her relationship with Hunter had changed. She didn’t know what to say it was anymore.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Wrecker saying as he finished marking up the wall, “Eleven more successful missions. Like there was any doubt.”
“Kaller wasn’t a win,” refuted Echo.
Wrecker sat in his bunk and picked up Lula, hugging her to him as he said back, “Says who? We completed our objective.”
“Not every objective,” Crosshair disputed. “Hunter let that Jedi kid escape.” Then he turned his stern gaze to Hunter, whose back was to him, and asked, “Or do you want to keep lying to us?”
With an irritated expression on his face, Hunter stood up from the table and moved over by the window, staring outside. “I don’t like to think of executing our Commanders a mission objective,” he said back firmly.
Crosshair bolted up from where he sat. “An order is an order,” he said back.
“Since when?” Hunter questioned, whirling back around to face him.
The tension in the air was starting to get uncomfortable and Kimber hoped she wouldn’t have to stop any sort of argument at this point.
Luckily, Echo jumped in and exclaimed, frustrated, “None of this makes sense! Those Clones served alongside General Billaba for years.” He slammed his fist down on the table. “How could they turn on her like that?”
Then Tech spoke up from his work station, “Because of the regs’ programming.”
“What programming?” Hunter repeated.
Kimber leaned forward on the sofa to get a better view of Tech, wondering what he could be talking about.
He went on to say while still working on his project, “It's been well-documented that the Kaminoans inhibited the cognitive functions of Clones to engineer them to follow orders without question.”
“Ha! We sure don’t!” declared Wrecker, elbowing Crosshair as he moved by him. Then Crosshair shoved him away, clearly not wanting any sort of physical interaction with his brother. Instead, Wrecker took the opportunity to mess with him and started shoving Lula in his face over and over again.
Kimber laughed at watching that, knowing Crosshair was definitely not enjoying that. Then Wrecker came and joined her on the sofa, giving her too a good-natured tap on the face with Lula, which made her giggle even more.
Tech continued with his explanation in response to Wrecker’s comment, “Obviously, we are different. They manipulated preexisting aberrations in our DNA, resulting in your brute strength, Crosshair's sharpshooting skills, Hunter's enhanced senses and my exceptional mind. My guess is we are immune to the effects of the programming, though I can't be one-hundred percent certain of it.”
There was something about that explanation that wasn’t quite adding up in Kimber’s mind. “Well, what about Echo?” she raised. “He’s not enhanced like you guys. He was a reg before he joined the squad.”
“Yeah, if all regs were programmed, why didn’t I react like the others?” Echo then asked, realizing Kimber was right.
Tech simply said, “The damage you sustained on Skako Minor most likely wiped out all of your preset behavioral modifications. You are more machine than man…percentage-wise, at least.”
Echo sighed. “Lucky me,” he said in a low voice.
Right then, they heard the PA system voice announce, “All personnel report to the staging area for a briefing on the state of the Republic.”
“This is one meeting I don’t want to miss,” stated Hunter.
“First time for everything,” said Tech in reply.
The thought of being in one large room with pretty much all the regs and all Kaminoans filled Kimber with dread. That surely wasn’t going to end well after whatever announcement was going to be made was over with.
Though, to her surprise, Tech came over to her and said, “I would imagine, Kimber, that you would not want to be in this meeting, due to everyone in the city being in attendance. Am I correct in that assumption?”
She scoffed and said, “It’s like you’re a mind-reader, Tech.”
“Not quite,” he replied. “I’m just good at making correct inferences based on facts and observations.” Then he handed her a datapad that he’d brought over from his desk. “If you wish to, you may stay here in the barracks and I can share the broadcast with you through this from my own datapad.”
“Why am I not surprised?” she asked back rhetorically. Then she took the datapad from him and said, “Sure, that sounds good to me.”
Tech gave her an assuring nod and then turned on his heel to leave the room with the others. Hunter stole one last look at her and bowed his head to her as he too walked out, leaving Kimber alone in the room.
“This ought to be good…,” she huffed out as she turned on the datapad, ready to hear what was going to be said to the general assembly.
Tumblr media
“The Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society!”
Those words from the Chancellor--or rather Emperor now--kept sounding in Kimber’s head as she set the datapad down next to her. For one, she now knew for sure that the voice she’d heard during Order 66 had been Palpatine. Now, the Republic had been dissolved and was going to be formed into a Galactic Empire. What did any of this mean?
What was happening to the galaxy?
This was no longer the galaxy she and her boys had signed up to fight for. First, all the Jedi had been eliminated, then all Clones were called back to Kamino and then this…she no longer recognized the galaxy she had chosen to serve. Everything was changing so much so rapidly and it was making her head spin. At least, in the ever-changing world around her, the one constant she could still hold onto was her boys.
Speaking of them, now that the general assembly was finished, she had to go meet up with them, so she booked it from the barracks and down the halls, back the way they had come ad keeping an eye out for them. Before long, she spotted them easily, their dark armor sharply contrasting against the white of the corridors. Wrecker waved her over and she jogged over to them.
“Galactic Empire? We’re soldiers of the Republic,” she heard Echo state as they kept walking.
“Republic…Empire…what’s the difference?” Crosshair questioned, seemingly unfazed by everything.
“There’s a big difference,” Kimber commented. “The Republic had designated leadership to the people throughout the galaxy whereas an Empire gives power to a single entity. That’s too much power and control for anyone to have.”
Then Tech put in his two credits: “Also the systematic termination of the Jedi is a big one for me.”
Just then, Hunter stopped in front of them and held up a hand for them to stop. “Lads...we’ve got company,” he informed them.
Hearing this, they all turned around to see to whom he was referring and they were astonished at what they found.
A young human girl, possibly around ten years old or so, stood before them with her hands behind her back and just beaming with delight at seeing them. She had bright brown eyes and short, light blonde hair that was slightly spiked in the back. The girl was clothed in black pants and boots, a belt and a long white shirt that had blue up the sides and on the sleeves as well as red on the shoulders. Her head was adorned with a round, white and silver amulet that rested on her forehead. To Kimber, the amulet looked somewhat familiar, like she had seen it before somewhere.
The young girl smiled up at them, gave them a small wave and simply said in a high-pitched voice, “Hello!”
Kimber could’ve melted then and there. Whoever this girl was, she just looked and seemed so precious. With the way she was illuminated by the bright lights of the corridor, she appeared almost angelic. Kimber had seen young kids in the halls on Kamino, but they had all been Clone boys. She’d never seen a young girl at all before this one. Noticing the perplexed expressions on her friends’ faces, she got the impression that they hadn’t really encountered anyone like her on Kamino either.
“What’s that?” Wrecker inquired, crouching down and closely inspecting the child.
“It’s a girl, Wrecker. Surely, you’ve seen children like her before,” she commented.
Tech adjusted his goggles and stated as a matter of factly, “Adolescent human female. Origins…uncertain.”
With a look of glee in her face, the young girl told them, “My name’s Omega. I was wondering when you guys would come back.”
Hunter came forward and asked with curiosity, “You…know who we are?”
Looking at each of them, Omega spoke, “Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker, Crosshair and Kimber. You’re Clone Force 99.”
Kimber was startled just a little at hearing Omega mention her. “You even know about me?” she asked the girl.
Omega’s eyes lit up even more as she nodded. “Oh yeah, I’ve heard the Kaminoans talk about you. They don’t always say nice things, but I think it’s so neat that you’re a woman in a Clone squad! I kept hoping I’d get to meet you one day!”
“Oh, you’re so sweet,” Kimber said to her, putting a hand over her heart.
The Clones were all grinning to themselves at seeing how excited this young girl was getting about meeting another woman.
Then Hunter bent over and asked Omega, “What are you doing on Kamino, kid?”
Omega was about to answer his question when a softer voice spoke up, “Her job, of course.”
They all looked up and Kimber’s jaw clenched as she saw Nala Se slowly sauntering up to them from behind Omega. It was then she realized why the amulet on Omega’s head looked familiar: it was highly similar to the one that Nala Se wore.
“She is my medical assistant,” Nala Se told them. “One with a curious mind that causes her to wander.”
“There’s nothing wrong with a child being curious,” Kimber said aloud before she could stop herself. Her irritation at seeing Nala Se again was making her act impulsively, but the words had already been said.
Nala Se’s eyes found her and narrowed. “There is when she has other matters to attend to. She does not have time for any trivial things.”
Kimber stepped forward to retaliate, but Hunter laid a hand on her shoulder and cast a look at her that urged her to stand down. Her teeth ground together even harder as she forced herself to keep quiet, lowered her head and stepped back.
“Come, Omega. There is work to do,” Nala Se said to the young girl. After that, she turned away and without a backward glance, walked towards another hallway.
Omega followed her, but looked over her shoulder as she walked and gave the Bad Batch a sweet smile and a wave goodbye. Kimber waved her fingers back at her as Omega went around the corner.
Folding his arms, Hunter stated in bemusement, “This day keeps getting weirder and weirder.”
Turning to the rest of them, Kimber asked, “Have you boys really never seen any young girls here on Kamino before?”
“No,” answered Echo. “The only females here usually are some of the Kaminoans and….” His face fell just a little as the memory of a kind Togruta woman returned to him. “One of the Jedi that used to come here.”
“I could tell because you lads looked very confused,” she pointed out.
“Indeed. The presence of females here in Tipoca City is not very prominent,” Tech added.
Kimber huffed. “Maybe that should change,” she said. Then she started walking, looking over her shoulder and saying with a grin, “I think this place could use a woman’s touch.”
“That would be quite the undertaking,” said Crosshair.
The lads all nodded in agreement and followed after her, the lot of them heading back to their barracks for the time being.
It wasn’t until a couple hours later that they all went down to the mess hall for something to eat. Crosshair, Echo, Tech and Wrecker were the first to head down.
Hunter was about to head out when he realized Kimber was still sitting on the sofa looking at a datapad. “Are you coming?” he asked her.
She looked up from her datapad and frowned. “Mmm no, thanks. I’m not feeling all that hungry,” she said back.
“Still not feeling great about being back?” was his next question.
With a shrug, she replied, “That and other things. Seeing Nala Se brought back...unpleasant memories.”
He softly snickered. “I could see that. You were ready to tussle with her almost immediately when she showed up.”
“I just remembered her staring at me like I was some irritating pest. Even though Lama Su was the one who actually insulted me with words, Nala Se might as well have done so, too, with how she looked at me. It still makes me sick to my stomach.”
Right then, her stomach released a low growl and she tensed up, not realizing how loud it was. Hunter clearly noticed, too, as he tried to suppress a chuckle.
“Okay, maybe I am a little hungry,” she stated timidly.
“Maybe getting some food will help you feel better,” he suggested, grinning in amusement. Then he came over in front of the sofa and extended a hand out to her. “Come with me,” he invited, his voice low and tender.
In that moment, Kimber would’ve wished for nothing more than to stay in the barracks alone with the Sergeant. Seeing how he smiled at her, offered his hand and spoke to her, it was difficult for her fighting the urge to jump up and kiss him; to remind him of just how much she still loved him and yearned to be with him again, despite the promise she’d made to herself to be patient with him. With everything he did, it was killing her inside to do so. Would her torment ever end? Would he ever figure out what he wanted? As much as she hated not knowing the answers to those questions and more, it still gladdened her even just a bit that he was at least not keeping his distance from her like he had been and was putting forth a little more effort right now.
She flashed a smile at him and replied, “I guess that’s an order I can follow,” as she then reached out and took his hand, letting him pull her up from the sofa.
“Besides, I’m sure the lads would be disappointed if you didn’t come,” he then told her.
“What about you?” she asked back.
He was a tiny bit taken aback at her question. “Of course, I would be,” he stated in reply.
She smirked, satisfied with that answer. “Just making sure,” she said.
With that, Hunter turned away and started towards the door, letting his hand linger in hers until it slipped out behind him. It was only then that Kimber realized he had been still holding her hand the entire time. Her skin felt cold once his hand let go and she missed the warmth of it immediately. Though, she knew she couldn’t dwell on it and walked right behind Hunter to the mess hall.
As the two of them got in line for their food, they both could hear the regs surrounding them all abuzz with some sort of gossip. They were talking about someone…an Imperial, it sounded like.
“His shuttle arrived earlier today,” one of the regs in front of them said.
Another one replied, “I heard he’s evaluating all the Clones.”
“That doesn’t sound encouraging,” Kimber commented in Hunter’s ear.
“You’re telling me,” he responded.
Just then, one of the other Clones behind Kimber said, “What do we have here? What’s a girl doing here?”
She turned around to face him as another Clone stepped out to see her. “Look at her armor and who she’s here with. Looks like she’s with the Bad Batch,” he said with a mocking sneer.
This was different behavior than what she’d experienced from other regs before and she didn’t like it. She also took notice that all of the regs now looked exactly the same. Not just they had the same face and similar looks, but they were all the same in every detail. Everyone wore the same white armor with no colors and they all had the same cropped black hair. There were no unique hairstyles or tattoos or markings on any of them anymore. There was no individuality amongst them like she had seen before.
She didn’t like any of it.
Keeping a calm demeanor, she just asked back, “Yeah, what about it?”
“Why would a girl like you be hanging around guys like them?” the first Clone asked. “You should be with some real Clones.”
Hunter’s grip on the sides of his tray tightened.
However, Kimber just gave the Clone a mocking grin and said sarcastically, “That is an excellent suggestion. I'll be sure to let you know when I find some.”
The Clone’s eyes widened for a second before he and the other one behind him glowered at her in response.
She looked at Hunter next to her and then exclaimed, “Oh, look! There’s one right here in front of me!” Then she leaned back and pointed a finger at the table where the rest of the Bad Batch sat and continued, “And I see more over there at that corner table, as well!” She turned her attention back to the regs and smirked deviously. “Thank you for your wonderful advice. That really was quite helpful.”
Behind her, Hunter couldn’t hold back a small, impressed grin at Kimber’s sassiness towards the regs.
As Kimber turned her back on the reg, he grabbed her shoulder and said angrily, "Who do you think you--aah!"
Feeling the reg's hand on her shoulder, Kimber had swiftly reached up, grasped his wrist and wrenched his hand away, twisting his arm downward and making him call out in pain.
Locking her eyes intently with his, she warned him with a hard tone, "Do not...touch me...again, reg." Then she released his hand with a small shove away from her.
Smirking at what she'd just done, Hunter proudly thought to himself, "That's my girl."
"Spoken like a true Bad Batcher," he said quietly in her ear, grinning at her.
Kimber smirked and chuckled in response and then whipped around, her long braid nearly smacking the reg in the face, and briskly walked away from the line, Hunter right on her heels.
They made it over to their table in time to hear Wrecker yelling in frustration at Tech, "I got a fact for you! I like to blow things up...because I like to blow things up!" He slammed his hands onto the table. "Got it?"
"Well, I'm convinced," Crosshair replied, his tone clearly laced with sarcasm.
"What was that about?" Kimber inquired as she went around and sat beside Echo.
"Long story, sunshine," answered Crosshair.
Sitting down on the opposite side of the table next to Tech, Hunter let them know, "An Imperial's been sent to evaluate the Clones. Everybody's talking about it."
"What kind of evaluation?" asked Echo curiously.
"Hopefully, not mental. Clearly, we'd never pass that," Tech said.
As they all exchanged peculiar looks, they heard another voice say to them, "Hello again."
It was Omega, the young blonde girl. She came to the table and sat on Hunter's other side, putting down her tray and timidly waving at the group. Kimber started to wave back, but then faltered as she realized that none of the Clones were reacting back. Instead, they were all gawking at the girl, puzzled at seeing her there.
"Omega," she reminded them, gesturing to herself. "From earlier? In the corridor?"
"Yeah, kid, we remember," Hunter replied, seemingly annoyed. "Don't you have someplace to be?"
Casually, Omega just said, turning to her soup on her tray, "No, I'll stay."
Tech's eyes widened. "You want to sit with us?" he questioned.
The girl nodded.
"That's never happened before," Tech observed.
"Wow...!" quietly gasped Wrecker.
Smiling, Omega told them, "I like you. You don't fit in around here either."
Hunter leaned over and pressed her, "What are you really doing here on Kamino, kid?"
Kimber then asked in addition, "Don't you have a family somewhere? Parents?"
"Parents?" Omega repeated, confused.
At that time, three more regs started walking by and one of them taunted them, "Check it out...the defect squad's got themselves a new recruit."
"Another member added to the Sad Batch," mocked another one.
They had been looking at Kimber.
She just glared at them as they walked by and just as she was about to stand up and yell something back at them, Omega surprised all of them by suddenly grabbing some of her food, climbing on top of the table and chucking it at the back of the Clone's head, hitting him directly and the food splattered everywhere.
"Who threw that?" he demanded.
"I did. Now, apologize to my friends," Omega demanded sternly.
"I like this kid!" Wrecker cried out, enthusiastically punching Echo in the chest.
The regs attempted to walk up to Omega to confront her, but Hunter put himself in the way and civilly tried to encourage them to back off and keep moving. Wrecker stood up behind Omega to try and intimidate the regs even further.
The regs seemed to relent, but not before the one in the front commented snidely over his shoulder as they left, “Know your place, lab scrapper.”
Kimber could feel her glare harden at the regs. These ones were definitely not like any other Clones she’d come across before. They were incredibly rude to her and to Omega. Her fists clenched at her sides, wishing she could go up and punch them.
Not even a few seconds later, there was movement out of the corner of her eye and a tray was suddenly flying through the air, colliding with the reg’s back. When she looked, she saw Wrecker balancing a collection of trays in his hand.
“Oops,” he said, grinning devilishly.
“That’s it!” cried the reg, all of them gearing up for a fight.
Wrecker was glad to oblige. “Oh yeah!” he shouted with glee before launching the stack of trays at the Clone, knocking him clean off of his feet.
Things turned to chaos so quickly, Kimber’s head threatened to spin. The other regs that taunted them came forward, but Hunter punched one of them and began fighting with them. Some of the onlookers started throwing food around and others began attacking Tech and Echo. Wrecker climbed onto the table and jumped straight onto another group of Clones. Echo was pushed onto the table and Crosshair took two guys out with a tray. People were thrown across tables, tackled to the floor; it was a brawl. Kimber herself jumped in and threw a couple punches at some regs while defending Crosshair and also Omega. It was just crazy how quickly things had escalated. Kimber got the feeling this must’ve happened a lot for the Bad Batch in the past.
She caught sight of movement in the upper level of they mess hall and when she turned her attention that way, she grimaced at seeing Lama Su up there watching and with him was a man she’d never seen before. It was an older man with gray hair pointed up at the sides, a hooked nose and wearing what she assumed was the garb of an Imperial officer. That must have been the Imperial the regs had been talking about.
“Echo, watch out!” she heard Tech call out.
Her head turned just in time to see Echo, who was on the ground close by her, get clubbed over the head with a tray and he slumped down to the floor, limp and unconscious. Furious, she sped forward and tackled the reg who had hit him to the floor before scrambling back up and putting herself in front of Echo to defend him.
Right then, the red-armored Coruscant guards came rushing into the mess hall, shouting at everyone to stop fighting, their weapons drawn and ready. Everyone else in the mess proceeded to stand down, though casting nasty looks at the Bad Batch.
Once the fighting was over, Kimber crouched down next to Echo and tried waking him up, but he was out cold. As one of the guards came over to her, she told them, “My friend has been knocked unconscious. He needs medical help.”
The guard nodded and ordered a stretcher to be brought in. Before long, one was brought to them and two of the guards got Echo onto it.
As they took him out, Kimber went up to Hunter and told him, “I’m going to go with him. He might not like waking up surrounded by medical equipment, so I want to be there just in case.”
“Go ahead,” he told her.
She then turned back and jogged over to catch up with the guards, heading with them and Echo to the medical wing.
Tumblr media
A half hour had passed and Echo hadn’t woken up yet. After the medics got him hooked up for a couple tests to be run, a floating medical Droid came into the room. He had a horizontal cylindrical head with two glowing eyes and a small light at the base where a mouth would be that lit up when he spoke that was propped up on a hinged rotating stand attached to his body. He only had an upper body with arms and hands, but for legs, he only had little round orbs that helped keep him afloat. Kimber hadn’t seen a Droid like it before and she thought it was kind of cute, almost.
The door to the room opened and she saw Omega come rushing in, looking concerned.
“Is he okay?” she asked, running over to Kimber and looking between her and Echo lying on the bed.
“He should be. Echo’s a tough trooper,” Kimber assured her.
The little med Droid floated over to Omega and asked her in a nasally-sounding robotic voice, “Omega, what are you doing here?”
“I came to make sure Echo’s okay. He got hit pretty hard,” she explained.
“But mistress Nala Se summoned you to the sub-level medical wing. You must go,” the Droid protested.
“No, I’m staying here until he wakes up,” said Omega.
Kimber then told her as the Droid hovered back over to Echo, “Omega, I appreciate your concern, but Echo will be fine. I’m here with him and if there’s somewhere you need to be right now, then you should go. It’s okay.”
Omega opened her mouth to say something back, but then they heard Echo’s voice suddenly cry out, “No! Get them off!” He shoved the Droid away and was looking about frantically, panic and fear evident in his expression.
“But my tests are not yet complete,” refuted the Droid.
“Echo, hey it’s okay! It’s okay,” said Kimber, rushing to his side and taking his good hand tightly as the Droid moved out of the way. “You’re just in the med bay, it’s okay. It’s Kimber, I’m here and Omega’s here, too. Just breathe. Breathe with me, Echo.”
While breathing heavily and trying to calm himself down, Echo’s eyes found her and he seemed to relax a little at seeing her at his side, clutching her hand back hard and she covered his with her other one. Then his breathing slowed as he followed Kimber’s breathing pattern, bringing his anxiety down.
Then Omega told him, coming up next to Kimber, “It’s okay, Echo. I understand. I don’t like being hooked up to their machines either.”
Something about that statement from the young girl troubled Kimber. Why was a kid being hooked up to medical machines? Was she just constantly getting hurt and into trouble like they were or was there something else? That made her question in the moment if Omega actually was Nala Se’s “medical assistant”.
“Hello, CT-1409,” then said the Droid, hoving at the end of the bed.
“His name is Echo,” Omega corrected him.
The Droid then introduced itself, “I am AZI-345211896246498721347, your assigned medical droid.”
Kimber’s head reared back. “Yikes, that’s a mouthful,” she observed aloud.
“Yeah, we just call him AZI. The rest can be a lot to say,” Omega told her.
Directing her attention back to Echo, who seemed to be much calmer now, she asked him, “You good?”
With a heavy sigh, he replied, “Yeah…yeah, I’m good now.”
There was a swish as the door to the room opened up once again and they looked to see the Bad Batch entering into the room.
“Ha! Told you he’s alive!” cried Wrecker boisterously. Then he pointed at Crosshair. “You owe me two credits!”
Kimber frowned, slightly unamused at what she heard. “You seriously placed bets on whether or not Echo was killed by a tray?” she asked flatly, glancing between Wrecker and Crosshair. When they both simply shrugged, she rolled her eyes and said, “My stars, you boys are incorrigible sometimes.”
AZI then floated in the middle of all of them and informed the Bad Batch, “CT-1409's condition is stable…but I have some distressing news for the rest of you. According to your test results, you all appear to be…genetically defective Clones.”
While the others didn’t react, as this was naturally not new information, Wrecker got a shocked look on his face and Kimber had to suppress a laugh.
“I will leave you to process the shock of this revelation,” stated AZI before zooming off.
“We’ve got a problem,” Echo told the others.
“Not really. We’re more deviant than we are defective,” Tech replied.
Echo shook his head. “Not that. Admiral Tarkin's here. He's the one evaluating the Clones.”
“Who’s Tarkin? Was he the guy that was with Lama Su earlier?” Kimber asked.
“Yeah, that was him,” answered Echo.
Tech then added, looking at Echo, “The same Tarkin from the Citadel rescue when you, uh...how shall I put this?”
“Blew up?” Wrecker finished for him.
“And turned into that?” Crosshair added, pointing at Echo with his toothpick and smirking.
“Okay, uncalled for,” Kimber said to Crosshair, elbowing him.
Echo sighed heavily. “Yes,” he said, his expression downfallen for a second, “and he’s not a big supporter of Clones.”
Hunter then spoke up for the first time since coming in, “We’ll soon find out. We’ve been summoned by the Prime Minister.”
Kimber groaned, “Great…!” Now, they had to go see Lama Su…like that was going to go well.
“Guess he didn't find that mess hall fight amusing…but I sure did,” stated Wrecker.
Motioning with his head towards the door, Hunter told them, “Come on, let’s get this over with.”
The others made their way to the door while Echo climbed off the bed, him and Kimber walking past Omega. Though the young girl cried out to them and ran in front of them.
“The fight was my fault. I’m going, too,” she tried stating.
“Not happening,” Hunter replied, him and the others moving by her. “We’ll handle this.” When she tried to object, he turned back around and interrupted her with a warning: “Listen, kid. Our squad’s nothing but trouble. For your sake, keep your distance. Got it?”
The young girl appeared a bit dejected at Hunter’s words, but she said nothing and stayed where she was as the door shut between her and the Bad Batch.

Hi! Idk if u have done this headcanon for any character ( or the character I requested) but could do one where the reader is hawks’ lil sis? I always thought that hawks would be a overprotective big brother. I’m sorry if u closed requests a few days before I sent it. I’m new to Tumblr and it drives me crazy so I’m not able to view many posts. Hope u have a great day!
This is a little all over the place lol! But I tried to cover what I could think of. Hope you like it!!!

Older Brother Traits - Hawks x Sister!Reader
Tumblr media
Being the little sister of the Number 2 Pro Hero Hawks is an adventure in itself. The constant fear of him being hurt or even worse always laid heavy on your back. Although he did have a good way of comforting you. There was also the constant being in the spotlight…or so you would think.
First of all, Keigo basically raised you. You don’t remember much about your parents but from what Keigo tells you, that’s for the best. For a while it was hard on the both of you. He tried his best though and you wouldn’t have changed a thing. Your brother was your hero while you are his little hatchling.
Your quirk was like Keigo’s. You had wings but there are definite differences between you two. One being that your wings are completely different in coloring. Yours are pink, gold, blue, and purple ombre. Another difference is that instead of being able to detach you your feathers, yours are basically indestructible. Bulletproof, blade resistant, etc. Soft to the touch but strong as metal. And they’re retractable. (Hawks is jealous of that bit.) They call your quirk Wings of Protection.
Tumblr media
(Yes , I used the wings of Nephthys from the movie Gods of Egypt as a reference. LOL, don't kill me, I love them!)
So all that being said, it was not a surprise that you got in Class 1-A of UA. You got in on recommendation which people who don’t know who you are, are curious about. You wondered a lot if it had more to do with the HPSC making it happen. At first, Keigo was stoked for you and immensely proud. It was halfway short lived because of the USJ incident. He got really worried about you. Enough that he was home before you that day when he normally isn’t home ‘til the evening (if he comes home at all).
After that, he hovered like a mother hen. He would always call you as soon as school was supposed to be out. He would send you texts throughout the day, checking in. He even went as far to stop by the school discreetly sometime. You know just being completely overprotective, over-bearing, and annoying. At one point he even was hesitant to let you participate in the Sports Festival. That is when you had enough and confronted him. He finally relented.
Otherwisssseeeee, everyone knows Hawks very laid back and carefree yet serious when the time needs it and it’s the same with his older brother duties. He is not very strict at all. The only things he has a firmer hand over is going out at night (cause you know, dangerous villains come out at night), going to the sketchier parts of the city, and asking him too much about his missions. After you got in UA, those rules went out the window much to Hawks pouting dismay. Well, you still aren’t allowed to ask much about his missions but okay.
Hawks barely ever gets mad at you, he barely brings work stress home with him, and overall he is a loving, overprotective (as you read before), and fun brother. There were a few times where he would have to be the mean guy but that was mostly when you did stupid stuff as a kid. Until the Kamino incident. You had went with Midoriya, Kirishima, and the others when they went to save Bakugo. He blew up when you got home and grounded you for ‘the rest of your life’. He, just like other parents/family of your classmates almost didn’t let you got to the dorms. That is until he got his head clear and started thinking about the fact that it would be the safest place in the world for you. Even more safe then there with him.
There was only a handful of people that knew you are the little sister of Hawks considering no one knew his real name. Like Nezu and Aizawa, Endeavor, and unfortunately, Hawks handlers at the HPSC. You hated them for how controlling and demeaning they could be and you got mad at Keigo for letting it happen.
As it is stated before, only a few people knew you are the younger sister of Hawks. So the rest of Class 1-A had no clue. That was until one night while everyone was in the common room, a live news report came on about your brother going against a villain. It didn’t end well. Hawks was majorly hurt before the villain was detained. Hurt enough, he didn’t get up. You broke down crying and screaming, all the worry and fear came crashing down on you. If Aizawa wasn’t there to stop you, you would have flown off in the next second.
Confusion was heavy in the dorms as Aizawa escorted you to the hospital that Hawks was at. It was a while before Aizawa came back without you. All Might had shown up in the meantime. Aizawa revealed the truth about your relationship with the Winged Hero. Everyone was shocked, even Tokoyami who was interning under Hawks had no idea.
After that day, the class didn’t treat you much different beyond the ‘Why didn’t you tell us?’ or the ‘Is Hawks going to be okay?’ and ‘Are you alright?’ ‘Do you need a hug?’ The last one came from Kiri and Mina. Thankful that they weren’t treating you different and they didn’t ask you to explain anything, you were able to relax for the first time over twelve hours. It helped to that you weren’t the only child in relation to the top 5 Pro’s.
In the next week or two, it was your turn to be the annoying, overbearing, and overreacting one. Since you are the only kin to Hawks, you were given the time off school, with the understanding of doing class work at home, to take care of your brother while he was down. Since it was just you and your brother for the longest time, you did know how to take care of yourself and others. Ever since Keigo had hit it big time in the Pro Hero Rankings, he started being there less and coming home injured a lot more. So he made sure you knew what to do.
As you get older and grow into a woman and a hero, he never stops being the overprotective, loving brother he always has been. Even as you graduate and go on to actual sidekick work, even as you go on to be a legitimate Pro, and rise in the ranks next to your friends and eventually passing him, he’ll never stop being there and proud. You still come to him if you ever need a hero and he still can rely on you to be his little hatchling.

Anon that mentioned the lack of dptam crossover with no way ua
All I got to say is I'm very sad I was proven wrong immediately. I thought we had a silent agreement everyone :( /j
In all honesty the irony is actually quite entertaining and that other anon has now peaked my interest and I may betray the agreement as well >:)
why are you guys all like this!!! if i did it, i'd still have UA suck - and our options for saving him would either be tensei!ingenium (plus the iidaten agency) or sir nighteye
Tensei would be worried about a kid his little brother's age working basically as a full time hero, and offer All Might to have him do a little interning with him one or two days a week, just to get a little more experience with a different sort of hero. All Might agrees, because Izuku needs to work with different heroes to learn from them. The AU would see a lot of Iida family and Midoriya interactions, along with a lot of Iidaten sidekicks.
They'd work out what's happening just before the sports festival when Izuku almost dies saving Tensei from Stain, and get him away from All Might when Kamino ward happened. Still, he can't go to a hero school and ends up founding his own hero agency out of a lot of All Might's old staff, making him the youngest hero with his own agency in history.
There are some cute parts of the AU, like Uraraka and Tenya doing their post-licensing interning with him!
With Nighteye, it would start out with him being convinced Izuku wasn't good enough, and taking him on in an attempt to train him up to standard (hes not as mad as canon because he hadn't actually offered Mirio as a successor yet when All Might made up his mind)
Izuku interns with Nighteye because All Might thinks the man would be a good suit for Izuku's analysis, and Mirio (and to an extent, nighteye) quickly start to pick up on some worrying behaviours, and also quickly find out he has literally no friends his age.
AU sees Izuku befriending the big three, thawing Nighteye's icy heart, and All Might dying at Kamino because Izuku tagged along to the third year's training camp and didn't have his phone on him (and the big three didnt want to stress him out! they were going to tell him about bakugo,,, eventually. but. everyone was having so much fun!)

I totally get your bitterness right now, because Bakugou just did his biggest move, the one he developed after the power-up he got from sacrificing himself for Deku and it still doesn’t appear to do anything - not even a Jirou-esque “your weakness has compelled others” kind of impact. But I still believe that in the long run, this is not “it” for him.
My reasons:
1. We got already something similar with Endeavor, where he first went down with what looked like a serious injury, only to come back into the fight and stomp AFO. (Ok, AFO is now rewinding, but still, it was a cool moment).
2. He will make the Origin Trio in some symbolic ways reach All Might. Shouto already started this with getting a big win in Kamino that inspired others. Bakugou will get his own “Bakugou shonen moment”.
3. Aizawa just gave us the line about Bakugou needing to pursue the no. 1. spot. That happens at a time when Bakugou is seemingly utterly defeated and outclassed. Yet, it’s recalled with sincerity - so I think that reminds us of Bakugou’s true potential.
4. Bakugou didn’t go in blind - he recalled the moment of training vs Deku to test his cluster’s strength. Which to me implies that Shigaraki’s body is even a level up compared to Deku.
5. If ShigAFO starts to monologue now, it will give Bakugou a chance to engage with him.
Remember how Toga and Uraraka started out being about Deku but hopefully will switch to the two of them? How Touya’s and Shouto’s dialogue started out to be about Endeavor but went on to be about each other?
ShigAFO in his confidence may reveal something to Bakugou that will be of importance (whether his grand plan, 2nd’s story and Deku’s last quirk - something that will give Bakugou a knowledge nobody else has) or Bakugou may be able to catalyse Tomura’s own rage against AFO.
I’m with everyone who feels bitter about Bakugou not getting a 1 vs 1 villain fight to shine. But I don’t think it’s fully off the table yet either - especially if ShigAFO reveals some sinister plan (e.g. an attack on All Might, etc) and then manages to break free of the school house. Nobody could match him in speed but Bakugou may go off to prioritise rescue.
Otherwise - yes, I do agree that it’s not a great thing that all of Bakugou’s character right now seems to be about Deku and him being used as a pawn for the MC-sama to come and do his thing. It’s not very satisfactory as a Bakugou fan who is not a bkdk shipper.
But I’m also hoping that it will backfire and Bakugou’s plight in the end will catalyse everyone into action who is at the fortress to show how hero society changed and heroes don’t sit around anymore waiting for the right power to show up.
So I guess, I can see this still going in unexpected ways. It’s not like AFO’s plans have been working out and he keeps underestimating everyone.

Hello, Hiya, and Good Evening! I saw that you are open for taking requests and I was wondering if you'd be willing to write a Bad Batch Imagine with Hunter X FemReader Fluff? I absolutely adore him and would love to see your take on him. I don't have anything specific cause I know that you'll come up something perfect! Thank you!
Watch Your Step (Hunter x Reader)

A/N: Ask and you shall receive! This one is inspired in part by some fan art I’ve seen in the community that I 100% endorse as canon. You’ll see what I mean. ;)
Description: Hunter x Fem!Reader, fluff with a little ✨spice✨ | Warnings: a little sensuality, shirtless Hunter you're welcome, Star Wars swear words| Setting: pre-TCW Season 7 | Word count: 1,992 | Gif credit: user kamino-coruscant
You had a long list of planets you wanted to visit before you died. Takodana was in the top ten. But why oh why did you have to visit in the middle of the hottest summer they’d had there in over a century?
That’s what you wondered for the thousandth time as you paced back and forth along the perimeter of the squad’s temporary camp.
“If you keep trudging like that, you’ll make a ditch,” Echo called out, watching from a nearby log.
“And then I’ll lay down in it and drown in my sweat,” you exhale, wiping your brow in vain.
“That is unlikely,” Tech interjected, not bothering to look up from his data pad, “It would take a considerable amount of time to collect enough perspiration to drown in. You would die from heat stroke and dehydration much quicker.”
You slow your stride, pausing to exchange exhausted looks with Echo.
“Thank you for clearing that up, Tech,” Echo sighed.
“You are welcome.”
You shake your head, too drained to argue further with the articulate clone.
Wrecker, who up until this point had been an unmoving mass on the ground, lifted his head with a groan, “When is the Sarge going to come back? How long does it take to look for water? I’m melting here!”
“Quit complaining, Wrecker,” Crosshair murmured.
He leaned back against a tree in the shade, eyes shut, seemingly unbothered by the heat. You were surprised the toothpick between his lips hadn’t caught flame yet.
“Although it is biologically impossible for one to melt in this temperature, I’m afraid I have to agree with Wrecker,” Tech spoke up, removing his goggles to wipe away the fog from the humidity. “The fresh water source I detected on my scan of the area is only half a klick from here. It is unusual that he hasn’t returned by now.”
“Try to reach him on the comm,” Echo replied.
“I’m afraid we cannot, at the moment. There is interference from a nearby outpost. Presently I am trying to override it, but I need time.”
Echo stood up from his wooden seat, “Should we go look for him? Maybe something happened.”
“I’ll go,” you declare before anyone else could volunteer, “I’ll find him.”
“Are you sure? You won’t be able to make contact if get into trouble.”
“I’ll be fine,” you smirk, patting the DL-21 pistol on your hip, “Besides, maybe if I walk fast enough I’ll feel a breeze.”
Echo nodded and sunk back down onto the log, casting aside his empty canteen with a grunt.
You hear Wrecker begin to grouse again as you start off into the sweltering forest. The way forward to the supposedly nearby lake was relatively clear, only the occasional tree root cropping up to interrupt the natural path of dirt and grass winding through the timber. It only takes a few minutes for you to realize your hopes to create a breeze were complete folly. Now that you were moving faster and further, your armor felt like an oven welded onto your body. Even with your helmet off, you were starting to wonder if that heat stroke Tech warned about wasn’t so far off.
“How can a planet with just one sun be this hot?” you huff, almost losing your already shaky balance as your foot catches on a rock.
The lush greenery overhead provided some shade from the relentless heatwave, but the stifling humidity nullified whatever mercy the limbs above could offer.
“Kriffing heat, kriffing sun,” you muttered, frustratingly wiping at your eyes as they stung with sweat.
Your flaring temper was about to compete with the solar flares when the smell of water reached your burning nose. Bird song started to grow louder, further confirming you were close to sweet relief.
You stumble through a bush, the sky opening up as you approached the clearing.
“Hunter better be alive...I’m not dragging his body...back...”
Your thoughts evaporated quicker than the moisture from your face. Your gaze jumps to the armor lying on the sand, to the bodysuit cast onto the boulder, then to Hunter kneeling down at the water’s edge, clad only in slim, black shorts.
“This is a mirage. I am definitely hallucinating,” you reason, but you can’t look away.
He stands up, fastening the red bandana around his head as he wades into the water up to his knees
“Nope, that’s him.”
Your jaw goes slack as you realize the tattoo on his face is only part of a full-bodied skeleton etched into his entire left side. Your eyes follow the smooth, ebony outlines of bones from his shoulder, across his back, all the way down the back of his leg.
“Stop staring! What’s wrong with you?” you think, but you’re frozen in place. You watch as he splashes water on his face and rubs the back of his neck. His thick, black hair was drenched, dripping water down his gleaming skin.
“Dank farrik,” you utter breathless.
“Are you gonna keep standing there or are you gonna come out?” Hunter called aloud.
If you had any spit left, you would have choked on it.
“Oh no.”
His heightened senses.
“Sergeant!” you blurt out, your cheeks flushing with more than sunburn.
You fumble forward, almost dropping your helmet.
“Y/N,” he greets, amusement in his voice.
“How uh...how long-”
“Long enough to know it was you. A droid would have shot me by now,” he answered before you could finish.
He sensed you. Of course he did. How could you have forgotten? How could you have remembered...
“Besides, I can always tell when it’s you,” he added.
He finally turns to face you. The waterdrops glisten on his chest. The tattoo trails down from his neck from the front too. Your throat tightens.
You quickly avert your eyes. “I was-, the squad was concerned. When you didn’t make contact.”
“Yeah, didn’t figure out my comm wasn’t working until after I got out here,” he explained, laughing a bit, “The canteens are over there. I filled them up in the stream a little ways to the east. It led me out to the lake. Thought I’d, you know, cool off while I was down here.”
“I see that,” you say, trying to maintain eye contact.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to worry you,” he studied your face, which you pretended not to notice.
“No, I’m fine. Glad you’re alright,” you say, feeling your cheeks get even hotter.
“You sure? Looks like you need to cool down yourself,” he suggests, stepping closer to the bank. “The water is nice and cold.”
He was just torturing you now.
“I’m fine, I don’t wanna take all this off just to put it back on,” you insist, lying through your teeth.
“Ah don’t worry, I can help you with that,” he says, smiling a bit.
You blink. Was, was he flirting with you?
“Tech was right, I’m having a heat stroke.”
He must have noticed the change in your expression because realization flashed in his eyes the next moment.
“Oh I didn’t mean...uh that came out wrong. I just meant, uh...I-” his stammering gave way to nervous laughter.
“Oh that’s okay. Um, we should probably be heading back to the camp anyway. Wrecker was about to melt, as he put it,” you laugh, trying to fix your eyes ahead.
“Ah, right. Of course. Better get that water to him, then,” he nodded, running his hand through his hair. “Would you...nevermind.”
“What is it?” you respond.
“Would you mind handing me my suit? I don’t wanna get sand in it.” he asked, sounding more timid than you’d ever heard him.
“Oh. Yes, of course,” you say, walking over to the boulder where he left his gear. “Not a problem.”
You retrieve the suit, the warmth from the dark fabric soaking through your gloves. You inch closer to the shoreline, moving carefully on the damp terrain.
"Watch your step. The sand is deeper than it looks,” he cautioned, reaching your direction, ”wouldn't want you to fall."
The words were barely out of his mouth as your boot slid in the slick silt. You try to regain your balance, but it was too late. Gravity has its way as you collide into Hunter, both of you going tumbling into the shallow water. The splash rains down on you as you come to a stop, and when you open your eyes, you’re lying directly on top of Hunter.
“I am so, so sorry, Sergeant,” you gasp, mortified, but you’re interrupted by his laughter.
“At least my suit will be cool now,” he chuckles, wiping away the water from his eyes.
You try to clamor off of him, but you can’t get a grip between your heavy armor and the unsteady sediment. As your balance wavers again, you almost knock your head into his.
“Kriff!” you exclaim, “I’m so sorry!”
He laughing even more now, shaking underneath you. “Here, lemme help.”
Even with your full weight on him, he manages to sit upright, steadying you with his hands on your waist. Your heart skips as you realize your hands are on his chest.
“I...am...” you pant, eyes locking with his. Before you can continue, Hunter reaches for your face, brushing a strand of your dripping hair away from your eyes. His knuckles softly graze your cheek, and your breath hitches. You find yourself leaning forward, glancing between his lips and his soft grey eyes.
“Sergeant? Hunter, do you read me?” Tech’s voice rings out from the comm on the shore.
You jump from the sound, both of you looking toward the sand where the device blinked.
“I...better get that,” Hunter exhales, disappointment in his tone.
“Yes. Definitely,” you say, slowly getting to your feet, holding onto Hunter’s hand until he’s upright alongside you.
“Sorry about your suit,” you say sheepishly. You pick it up out of the water and ring it out the best you can before handing it to him.
“Sorry about yours,” he countered, gesturing to your soaked armor as he trekked up the bank.
You already felt the water seeping beneath the plates into places it shouldn’t, but that was the last thing on your mind.
“That’s alright. You were right. The water was cool,” you say, following behind.
“Hunter, do you copy?” Tech radioed again, sounding a little more concerned than usual.
Hunter retrieved the comm, heaving a sigh. “Yeah Tech, I copy.”
“Good. Is Y/N with you? She went searching for you when you didn’t return.”
Hunter looked over at you as you leaned over to shake out your hair.
“Yeah, she’s with me.”
You catch a glimpse of his smirk before he turns away.
“We’re on our way back. Tell Wrecker to hold on a little longer. We got the canteens refilled,” Hunter reported.
“Copy that. You may want to hurry. I am not sure how much longer Crosshair can restrain himself from putting Wrecker out of his misery. Nor I, for that matter.”
“Will do. Over and out.”
You went over and collected the canteens while Hunter donned his armor, all the while your thoughts raced as the moment from the water relayed in your mind.
Hunter cleared his throat, walking up behind you, helmet under his arm. “Ready to head out?”
You spin on your heel, three canteens strapped to your belt and one in your hand. “Yes, sir.”
“Good,” he nods, grabbing the other two and securing them.
“Hunter?” you ask, hesitating to even voice the question in your mind.
“Yeah?”
“What did you mean, when you said you can always tell when it’s me?”
“Oh, well. I just...can. Certain people give off a feeling. It’s not everyone. But some do. It’s hard to describe,” he explained.
“And my feeling?”
He gazes into your eyes and smiles. “Bright as the sun.”
He puts on his helmet and takes point, striding back into the woods. You slip yours on as well, concealing your grin all the way back to camp.

Mimic Chapter 23
Tumblr media
With the second part of the exam beginning, will proving yourself a hero be more of a challenge with the past merging with the present.
Words- 3765
Reader x MHA (Platonic)
Warnings: Injury, angst, violence, PTSD, and battles
It was almost a blur getting to the reception room, by the time you had gotten there more people had passed, and you had found yourself a seat in the corner of the room quickly zoning out your mind and going elsewhere. It wasn’t until more people arrived that were your classmates that you were pulled out of your head to greet them,
“Hey L/n how long have you been here for?” Kirishima asks as he comes over to your corner with two bottles of water in his hand handing you one of them which you gratefully take.
“A while it wasn’t bad though just some time to relax.” You shrug taking a sip from your water as he nods, “Well I had faith you would be all good! You’re one of the best in our class.” He says a big grin on his face and you smile slightly at his comment.
“You’re no hero. A hero would have never done this.”
Your smile drops quickly as the memory of him holding the younger boy as you took down everyone ruthlessly. “So did everyone pass in our class yet?” You say quickly wiping the frown off your face and the redhead shakes his head,
“So far only 12 of us have passed, there’s still nine more left.” He says pointing to the screen still showing off the large battle still happening on the battlefield. More students passed with the ten spots left as time and spaces dwindled. By some stroke of luck from your class, they had all teamed up securing their spots in the hundred. You all reunited and the announcer explained the second part of the exam,
“Please all hundred of you watch the screen.” He said as the screen showed the entire exam field before loud explosions cover the field and building crumble and destruction covers the field, “Round two’s the last one! You, examinees, will venture into the ruins as bystanders and prove your worth when it comes to rescuing innocent victims.” Your mind seemed to flash to all the times of destruction and the aftermath, Kamino Ward, the USJ, a chill runs through you the almost memory of the destruction surrounded, the feeling of blood between your hands. Shaking your head you look forward to the upcoming trial. You could do this.
You were all given a 10-minute break to relax and prepare yourself but those 10 minutes quickly came and went, your mind just seemed out of it. Was it what that one student said or was it what you saw. Was it a memory? Or maybe this was a warning about your future…
You didn’t get more time to think about it as the room opened up again and you all rushed out to go help the ‘civilians’ in the exam. It was explained that they were actors but they would act like real victims of a disaster so you had to respond the same way. Your class was together for most of it but split apart to get more coverage, you were paired with Mina, Ojiro, and Shoji.
“There are two civilians in this direction,” Shoji says pointing a hand in the direction of a collapsed building the four of you make your way over and you hear crying coming from under some of the rubble.
“Please help us! Me and my baby our trapped!” Cries from what sounds like a woman echo from under the rubble and the cries of what sounds like an infant.
“Okay, what do we do Y/n?” Mina asks looking over at you as you just stare at the rubble in front of you as the woman continues to yell, “Y/n…?”
“Help us please!” She cries in front of you the world around you was numb, the distant sound of sirens and cries fills the air as you stare down at the woman before you. She was clutching her child in her arms her leg pinned between rumble, dust, and blood coating her as she screams out. But you weren’t there to save her, you weren’t just an innocent bystander. The cause of all this destruction and the reason the woman before you were begging for a savior, was because you were the cause. She wasn’t screaming at you to help her, she was crying out to anyone nearby to come save her and her child from you.
“Y/n!” A hand grabs your shoulder and you’re not amongst the fire and rumble, your friends were by you looking at you in concern as the woman still underneath the rumble cries out. Mina gives you a look before turning back to the woman under the rumble, “Stay calm ma’am! Are you and your baby hurt at all?” She calls out and you hear the woman’s cries die down,
“I don’t think so. Please just get us out of here.” She calls out and Mina looks over at the three of you,
“Okay it looks like those two bars of steel are what’s pinning them down, Y/n use Uraraka’s quirk and make them weightless, once that happens Ojiro and Shoji you two lift up the concrete and I’ll try reaching in two grab them both,” Mina says and you all nod and you head over to the metal bars touching each of them a pink glow coming from your hands as the bars become weightless floating up as the two boys go over to the slab of concrete and begin to lift it as you keep focusing on the metal bars, you could feel nausea brew in your stomach, god was this what she felt every time she used her quirk. With the slab of concrete raised, Mina slips under and you see her pull both the woman and the child away from the rumble and the two boys drop the concrete as you release Uraraka’s quirk the metal bars hitting the floor.
“It looks like your leg is broken and bleeding a lot, you shouldn’t put any strain on your leg,” Mina says holding the woman up as the child is quickly passed off to Ojiro who looks shocked at watching over a child. “We’re a fair distance from where an evacuation zone maybe and it’s most likely where we all were at the beginning of the exams,” Shoji says having used his quirk to gauge a distance from where they were.
“I could get us there.” You say and your classmates look over at you as you rub your hands almost nervous to be speaking up, “Kurogiri’s quirk, it's coordinate-based shit I wouldn’t have an idea where the exact location of where that is.” You say to yourself running your hands through your hair. This woman is bleeding out in front of you and you have no idea if her child is okay and you all were going to make it there in time for her to be okay.
“Use All For One’s quirk.” Nana’s voice appears and you see her standing next to Ojiro looking down at the child, even though this was all fake you had no idea how they would grade you all for this. Would they fail your classmates if you weren’t able to save this woman, “His warping…”
“Only lets me send people away from me to someone I’m well acquainted with…but I wouldn’t be able to go with you.” You mumble to yourself looking down at your hands.
“Y/n? Do you have an idea? We don’t have enough time to waste.” Mina calls out to you and you look at the group and the woman and her child.
“Shoji where is Midoriya right now or is anyone in our class at the evacuation zone?” You say and Shoji extends his arm as more limbs grow from his arm before an eye is at the top,
“It’s Midoriya he seems to be just arriving at it.” He says and you nod.
“Okay..okay…so I’m going to send you over to him but I won’t be able to come with you. You’ll be able to help her and I’ll meet up with you guys.” You say before a distance rumbling shakes the ground before you feel a tremor in the ground. A loud explosion comes from the right of you all as more of the building explode and start to sway on their damaged supports.
“What do you mean you can’t come with us?! Y/n this is crazy!” Mina yells at you as another explosion and tremor surround you guys and a building in the distance tips on its side crashing to the ground creating a chain reaction of other buildings to come falling getting closer to the group of you.
“I’ve got this! I’ll find you guys but you have to go now!” You say as a building near you comes crashing starling you all as the small child starts to cry. Holding your hand out you picture Midoriya in your mind, everyone detail of him from his uniform to the fluffiness of his green locks. Opening your eyes you look at them,
“Sorry for the smell.” You say as black ooze comes out of each of their mouths consuming them right as a building near you starts to crumble you dodge a piece of falling debrief as the ground underneath you begins to shake,
“Y/n!” You hear Mina cry out still holding the woman as they all disappear just in time for a large piece of rumble to hit the ground where they stood. You just run, as fast as you can avoiding failing debris using Todoroki’s quirk to shoot you up in the air as a large piece of metal appears right in your path.
Just keep running.
That’s all you can do.
Run.
As members of the Hero Commission chose points for each student one agent assigned to you seemed almost surprised by your actions, while there was a slight hesitance at the beginning that wouldn’t be allowed in a real scenario, sacrificing yourself to help the civilians out of harm's way as you sprint through a collapsing city was surprising noble. Putting the lives of her teammates and victims before her was something you didn’t see even in some Pro-Heroes. Y/n L/n was a very interesting girl.
You are given a moment to catch your breath having escaped the labyrinth of falling buildings you appeared in the clearing seeing ahead of you a large tornado of flames and what looked to be men dressed in black fighting other students. Making your way to the fight you just needed to immobilize them you pause seeing a sharp piece of glass. A quirk to immobilize their victims…You definitely have seen that before.
As Gang Orca tries to remain moist in the fire tornado his sidekicks fight off against the students. Almost like a blur two of the sidekicks feels knicks on their body before their body completely freezes now paralyzed.
“Hey what’s this?!” “I can’t move!” More of Gang Orca’s sidekicks seem to notice the sudden paralysis that appears amongst them when one of them sees the cause of it.
“Hey, guys watch out!” One of them tries to yell but a quick cut on them and they are frozen as well. “Guys look.” Even some of the students were confused by the quickly diminishing group of ‘villains’.
“Is that…” One of the students points out and whips past another of Gang Orca’s sidekicks the sharp of glass in your grasp the tip red with each person’s blood. Bringing the glass to your mouth and licking the blood the person freezes in place.
“That’s…”
“The Stain’s quirk…” Midoriya breathes out seeing you whip the glass clean right as the fiery tornado is destroyed Gang Orca lets out a yell.
“Well?! What now?!” He yells as two blurs pass his vision one attack from above and the other coming from below. Midoriya strikes down with a swift kick that is stopped by Gang Orca’s arm, the distraction of holding back the force of Midoriya and One For All he is too late to notice the apparent cut that is on his arm.
“Big Fish! She’s using the Hero Killer’s quirk!” One of his sidekicks yells out to him as his eyes drift from Midoriya to you the glass with his blood on it holding it towards your mouth,
“It’s over now…” A loud buzz fills the arena stopping everyone in place as a voice comes over the loudspeaker,
“At present every last civilian on the field has been rescued from impending danger. Therefore, I declare that this test is over!!” Dropping the shard of glass everyone seems to relax hearing the exam was over, “The results will be announced once all scores are tallied. Those with injuries, please proceed to the medical area…everyone else, get changed, and stand by for instructions.” With that, the testing was over. You see some medical staff coming over to some students with injuries as you gaze at the stands for a certain someone. Spotting Mr. Aizawa you wave at him catching his attention, pointing at the still paralyzed sidekicks to then your hair holding it up. Your teacher seems to understand his eyes flash red his hair floating up and you see Gang Orca’s sidekicks begin to move not under the effects of Stain’s quirk. Aizawa blinks and you feel the familiar sensation of your quirk returning to you before you joined your classmates to change out.
Returning to a large screen and stage the officiant for the exam began, “It’s been a long battle, boys and girls, but for now it’s time for the results…before that though...regarding the scoring system we of the heroes public safety commission along with the members of H.U.C were deducting points on two issues as we watched you perform. Essentially we judged you on your ability to act flawlessly in a crisis. Anyhow, here are the names of those who passed the test.” The screen lights up with a multitude of names your eyes quickly scanning over trying to find yourself.
‘Y/n L/n…’ Your name among the others was a sigh of relief but you couldn’t help but frown L/n…it should be Shimura.
“We’ll now be handing out the score sheets. We’ve explained the scoring system in detail, so read them over carefully.” Workers came out passing out papers for each student.
“Y/n L/n..” One of them calls out before handing the sheet to you. You froze you were given a 68 out of 100. You lost points for hesitating multiple times throughout the rescue but the part that made your blood boil was what they had under for your performance with your quirk, ‘Subject shows the use of dangerous quirks (Hero Killer, All For One, etc.) use of these quirks are highly dangerous and cannot be used in the sense of hero work. Further use of villainous quirks will result in termination of hero license...’
They would take away your license if you used more villains’ quirks…the paper crinkles under your clenched hands. Did they know as well… You shove the paper in your hand your harsh glare glued to the ground unaware of someone watching in.
On your return back to the dorms you were all given your licenses with the two students in your class who failed but they were told if they took supplementary classes they could gain their licenses later on. Your ID photo was not one of your greatest photos while others were all giddy with big smiles you were a very straight face, thousands of thoughts running through your head mostly anger. Angry towards the hero commission, towards All Might, to All For One, One For All, and yourself. Those hiding things from you, your own self for keeping things away from you, life throwing more things in your way that you just felt angry. This anger seemed to fester since Kamino was quickly reaching a breaking point. Your entire life was hidden from you and you should have known that you were kept in the dark, from the moment you first met All Might even those with knowledge of One For All. The only people who seemed more than willing to reveal all of your memories were your brother who was god knows where and…
“L/n!” A voice cuts through your thoughts and you turn seeing Midoriya heading over to you with a big goofy grin on his face, “Can you believe it! We’re just getting a step closer to becoming heroes!” The pure innocence on his face as he smiles at you clutching between his hands his license. Do you think he knows? He is All Might’s successor and how close of a relationship he has with One For All then you do. It would make sense huh... The next holder of One For All to know that the girl in front of him was related to their sworn enemy and closely connected to the most dangerous villain. But he wouldn’t hide something that important from you…right?
“Yeah, it’s great..” You mumble finding the ground more interesting and Midoriya frowns seeing the lack of excitement.
“Hey, are you all good?” His hand grasps your wrist making you look up at him, “Is it about the house arrest thing? These few days you’ve just been out of it. Did you find something while you were using Mind Breaker’s quirk?” He gonna run off to tell All Might.
Your hand rips from his grasp a hard look on your face, “Why? So you could go run off to your master to tell him.” A look of confusion and hurt crosses his face,
“What are you talking about? All Might isn’t my master.” Midoriya says and your roll your eyes turning away from him.
“Right as if you don’t spend any moment letting All Might know what you’re doing. I’m sure you already told him about passing the exam as soon as you got it.” The redness that quickly grows on his face proves your point,
“Just because you are supposed to be the next holder of One For All doesn’t mean you have to follow a path that’s gonna end with you dead.” You say and you can hear his breath hitch from your words the coldness coming off you in waves.
“L/n what’s going on this isn’t like you.”
“Isn’t like me…like I even know what my normal self is. Is it L/n a girl who is some quirkless loser that luckily got into the hero course or Shimura the grandchild to All Might’s mentor. I barely understand One For All and my new correlation to All For One and what he wants with me. Then there’s the lying and the hiding, and having two dangerous quirks in my body while I’m stuck here while Shigaraki is god knows where and the only family left in my life but great he’s a murderer and my sworn enemy. So yeah Midoriya I’m just acting strange because I don’t know what I’m supposed to be.” You rant off spinning around to face him and the built-up anger clearing for a second and the realization of what you said stopping you in your tracks.
The look on Midoriya’s face as he takes in everything you said, you having both One For All and All For One in you and that Shigaraki was related to you. These were things he couldn’t just keep in if this could affect the future of heroes and stop the League. The small step away from you and your hand latches onto his wrist keeping him in place his eyes filled with fear while yours were frantic.
“You can’t tell anyone I told you this. No one, not Aizawa, or the police, not even All Might.” Your voice was firm as your grip tightens on his wrist and Midoriya shakes his head. You weren’t letting him leave this hallway where the sounds of your classmates were just beyond it.
“Y/n…this is bad like this could get you in trouble bad. You need to tell All Might or Mr. Aizawa. I…I can’t lie for you.” He says and you feel a piece of your heart break the kind of betrayal you weren’t expecting. How he could quickly turn on you for what the sake of helping heroes… He goes to pull away when he finds himself unable to move. Looking down he sees ice covering his feet keeping him in place. Staring back you had a frown on your face as you look heartbroken before raising your hand up the similar mist from Mind Breaker’s quirk covers your hand.
“L/n don’t do this. Please don’t..” Midoriya whimpers and you shake your head looking down,
“I’m sorry Midoriya…but I just can’t risk it.” You say your hand reaching for his forehead when a hand latches onto your arm ripping you away from the green-haired boy. From the sudden motion, you hit the ground the quirk quickly leaving as you look to see who rescued Midoriya and was shocked to see Bakugo standing between you and the boy.
“What hell are you doing Copy-cat?!” Bakugo growl out he usually didn’t give a shit about if someone was going to beat anyone up, especially Deku but if he hadn’t listened in what you were going to do was just any ordering fighting.
“Piss off Bakugo this is none of your concern.” You say pushing yourself to your feet glaring at the blonde then looking past his shoulder seeing Midoriya rubbing his wrist now free from the ice trapping him. Knowing this wasn’t going to go in your favor you turn going to head out,
“Oi! Meet me out front later,” Bakugo yells out to you and you flip him off while still walking, “We gotta talk about your quirk. Yours as well Shimura.” Bakugo says looking at Midoriya before emphasizing your last name making you freeze in your steps. He knows. The two of you are frozen in shock as Bakugo walks past you heading back to join the class.
“And if you don’t. I’ll go tell Aizawa what you know and what you’d plan to do to Midoriya.” Bakugo says having the last word before disappearing around the corner. Your nails dig into your palms anger rushing through your body. That bastard. Quickly leaving the hall you disappear back to your room, guess it was time for the truth to come to life…all of it.

You’ve heard of ch. 322 spoilers translations; now introducing ch. 322 meta dissections!
I spared no expense. I have to explain to you so many things.
Tumblr media
oh lawd he comin’
Tagged: Everyone who’s been asking how I feel about the apology.
Initial spoilers translations here.
Katsuki’s apology translations here.
I’ll be colloquializing the translations here.
Tumblr media
Izuku’s art style is in a nebulous in-between state. Before now, the way he was drawn was indicative of the gap between him and the rest of the world, similar to how All Might is drawn outside the manga style of everyone else.
Here, Izuku is trying to come back to normal because he wants to, but he also feels he shouldn’t. The tendrils of Black Whip return to resemble his previous style.
Tumblr media
But the Deku mask has been torn away. 1-A is trying to reach Izuku, to talk to him, but Izuku is still trying to hide. He’s toned black with white, shapeless eyes to the point of resembling a silhouette. He hasn’t fully formed as Izuku again yet.
Meanwhile, Katsuki stands in-frame, his reopened wound the focal center.
It’s a callback to this moment.
Tumblr media
The last thing Izuku heard before going berserk was what Katsuki said to him. Katsuki has managed to return to this moment in order to continue what he was trying to say to Izuku back then.
And now’s the best time to do it, because Izuku is going to run away again if no one can reach his heart.
So he picks up right where he left off:
Do you remember what I said when I was stabbed by Shigaraki?
Tumblr media
As Izuku says he doesn’t remember, the shadows from his tone disperse. He’s back to this moment:
Tumblr media
Back to when he was too shocked to understand what Katsuki’s words to him were. When his pupils started to white out and disappear.
But Izuku’s eyes are still unseeing. So Katsuki’s speech takes him through their lives together, explaining his feelings throughout their entire relationship. He starts with their childhood.
“Don’t try to win by yourself.” And there’s more to add. My body moved on its own and I was stabbed…! So I felt like I needed to tell you something. I was always looking down on you...because you were quirkless. Even though I thought you should have been far behind me, I came to feel like you were far ahead of me. And I couldn’t stand it. I didn’t want to see it. I didn’t want to admit it.
First of all, this apology is starting out parallel to Endeavor’s. “I felt like I needed to tell you something.” This apology is prompted by a traumatic realization in a dire moment for Katsuki. Endeavor had a similar experience with Natsuo.
Tumblr media
Katsuki and Endeavor are not the same person. Their characters and arcs are very different from each other’s, but they do share some parallels.
That’s because Endeavor’s apology to Natsuo was meant to be the lesson Katsuki took away from his work study at Endeavor’s agency. It’s the thing he’s missing on his path to become Number One.
Tumblr media
Katsuki and Endeavor are not on the same path, obviously, because Katsuki has the exact opposite problem Endeavor has when it comes to his apology.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuku’s forgiveness could come too readily, could come before Katsuki properly atones.
Horikoshi tells us Katsuki’s atonement is happening by reopening Katsuki’s wound.
Tumblr media
This is a symbolic moment. Katsuki is reopening old, unhealed wounds. He’s suffering the pain that resulted from his atoning step in chapter 285 of saving Izuku by sacrificing himself. He won’t allow the wound to close up without feeling it. He won’t deny his feelings like he did all their lives. He’s accepting his weaknesses.
And so finally, finally Katsuki expresses to Izuku how he really feels about him, how he always felt about him. Izuku never would have fathomed that Katsuki felt like Izuku was better than him. How could Izuku even consider that when Izuku never considers himself at all?
Remember Izuku’s reaction to Katsuki’s words in Deku vs. Kacchan, Part 2?
Tumblr media
Izuku hears that Katsuki thought Izuku looked down on him, and his reaction is, “No, I didn’t look down on you. I looked up to you.” Izuku makes his own feelings clear.
But now, in Kamino, Izuku learns it’s not just that Katsuki misunderstood Izuku’s feelings. Now Izuku is learning he himself misunderstood Katsuki’s feelings. Katsuki actually thought Izuku was above him.
Keep that in mind for later. We’ll come back to it.
Tumblr media
That’s why I wanted to keep you away, and I bullied you.
What’s important about this line is how it acknowledges the physical distance between them. Katsuki actively tried to keep Izuku at arm’s length. Izuku perceived it as Katsuki running far ahead of him, when Katsuki was really denying how it felt like he was trailing far behind Izuku.
Tumblr media
By denying all that, I was trying to act like I was superior. I was always losing to you. Then, we entered UA...
They are shown in their middle school uniforms, because Katsuki’s referenced facade of superiority is from chapter 1.
Tumblr media
You can see the physical distance between them is still large. Katsuki feels like he lost to Izuku that day, but he maintains his denial of Izuku’s potential, acting superior instead.
Then he moves on to his feelings in high school.
Tumblr media
...and things never once went the way I wanted. It was just day after day of realizing your strengths and my own weaknesses.
And damn is he right! So much of the early chapters are dedicated to this observation. For some reason, these words particularly reminded me of the ride to the USJ...
Tumblr media
...when suddenly Katsuki is the one getting picked on by the class. Izuku’s passion in their combat training actually endeared him to everyone, something Izuku has never experienced. Meanwhile, Katsuki suffers the consequences of his weaknesses.
And so each panel of this apology, showing how they’ve seen each other since childhood, addresses the hole that Izuku narrates about in Deku vs. Kacchan, Part 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We’d never really talked things out” is a translation of:
本音で話あった事がない honne de hanashi atta koto ga nai “We’ve never had a talk about how we really feel.”
Tumblr media
Just saying this won’t make things right, but it’s how I really feel, Izuku.
The keyword is honne, meaning “true intentions/feelings.” Katsuki uses the same word here. “Honne da.” “These are my true feelings.” We’ve only ever heard that word from Izuku narrating before. Yet here, Katsuki says it out loud, in front of the entire class.
Tumblr media
For everything until now, I’m sorry.
All of it. Their childhood. Middle school. High school. Every misunderstanding. Every denial. Every lie.
Katsuki is a sincere person. He doesn’t like to lie. He had to fool himself out of understanding his own feelings for things to get to this point.
Katsuki bows lower than Izuku. He’s placed Izuku above him now.
Tumblr media
And the pupils of Izuku’s eyes have fully returned. He can see again. He is no longer blinded by his fear, nor is he blind to Katsuki’s real feelings anymore.
I also have to point out the wet sidewalk rippling with raindrops. You know, like they’re standing in water, like in a pond or something.
Tumblr media
“As for your path as the successor of One For All, there’s nothing wrong with the ideal All Might represents by itself. And yet now, you’re swaying on your feet. There are walls you can’t overcome with only your ideal of All Might. Whatever you cannot handle, we all will handle. In order to surpass the ideal of All Might, whether it’s you or the refugees at UA or the people of this city, without exception, we will save to win.“
What I love about this part is how Katsuki explicitly says “we,” but the way he says it does not necessarily exclude Izuku from the group. It could be read that Katsuki is speaking for class 1-A, that they will handle what Izuku cannot and protect Izuku and everyone else and win. It could also be read that Izuku is included in class 1-A for this statement.
And in that final sentence, the “we” is only implied. He could be talking about Izuku and himself as a team. He could be talking about just himself.
I think, given the invocation of “save to win” (not “win to save”), Katsuki is excluding Izuku here. I think he’s saying “this is my strength that is anything comparable to yours, and that strength is us, my team, class 1-A, whom I brought here to save you.”
Because Class 1-A is comparable to One For All.
So, it’s time to circle back to this.
Izuku understands now. Katsuki is admitting he thought he was the one chasing after Izuku all this time. Katsuki was always hurt by how far behind Izuku he perceived himself to be. Now, Katsuki has finally caught up by cultivating a similarly strong power: teamwork.
And if Katsuki was always so hurt by how much better Izuku was than him, then...
Tumblr media
Izuku realizes how Katsuki took everything he’s said while trying to run away.
For a long time, everyone...
“I said…‘you can’t keep up’…”
had always been ahead of me.
“‘You can’t keep up’ is such a cruel thing for me to say. I’m sorry--...”
Izuku thought everyone was ahead of him. Katsuki thought Izuku was the one who was ahead. That was the biggest misunderstanding of all between them.
Now Izuku understands. Katsuki has reached his heart. Katsuki has saved him.
Izuku is so distraught at how much his words must have hurt Katsuki that he loses the will to run. The epiphany is so emotional, he loses all remaining strength.
Katsuki, having finally been understood, also understands in return, and he rushes to catch Izuku and accept the answering apology.
Tumblr media
Katsuki is no longer keeping Izuku at an arm’s length away.
Again, there are no pronouns in Katsuki’s response. It could be read as:
We understand.
Or it could be read as:
I understand.
Both work.
And not only does Katsuki understand the apology, that Izuku is sorry, that Izuku understands he hurt Katsuki...
He also understands when Izuku says, “What a cruel thing for me to say.”
Because Katsuki knows how it feels to say such cruel things and feel sorry for it.

Question from @pumpkinkpatch, but went to my Submissions box instead of Inbox: How are clones different from slaves?
We know that the Republic is very much against slavery and you clones appear to also be opposed to it. But, how are you really any different from slaves?
You were bred into serve, into follow orders and do as told. You were never actually given a choice, were you? Did you ever have a say in the battles you took part in? And what if there were a clone who didn’t want to fight, who just wanted to settle down and live the simple life. Would he be allowed to do so?
If not, then how were you ever any different from slaves?
Answer:
This is actually quite an involved topic and one that I often consider as I lie awake at night. My thoughts about the nature of our existence are somewhat mixed, and I cannot be certain if my inability to come to a conclusion thus far has been due to the complexity of the subject or if I have been simply denying the truth for my own comfort.
You are correct. The purpose of our lives was handed to us. There were no choices given. It was ingrained in us from the moment of our decanting that we were to be soldiers--nothing more, nothing less. To fight for the Republic and protect its people was our duty and an honor. That is what we were told from the beginning, and it was repeated throughout our abbreviated childhoods to the point that we could not imagine being anything else. By the time we were old enough to leave Kamino and fight, it was practically all we wanted to do.
I struggle somewhat with the idea of what would happen if a clone did not want to be a part of the war. I never personally knew any clone who entertained such an notion aloud. Yet in the back of my mind, I seem to know the answer. Whenever the thought of leaving crossed my mind, even for a moment as I considered what else I might do with my life, I was filled with an intense sensation of dread. It was as if I knew deep down what would happen to me, or any clone, if we were to leave and pursue an alternative life.
Even now, as my squad and I roam the galaxy as something more than the soldiers we were created to be, that feeling remains. If I am being honest with myself the answer is obvious. We were not free. Sadly, I'm not sure we ever will be.

Last time I went about five months between doing a set of STAR WARS fic recs, this time it’s only been three months! Hurrah! It helps that, as always, this fandom puts out an incredible amount of excellent fic, so I feel like I’m never hurting for fics I want to yell about and shove at people, which is something I continue to appreciate as it often feels like so much of the world is such a huge tire fire. It helps to be able to find fics to retreat into, to have fun with, to express joy and creativity with, and so many of the authors in this fandom are just so good at this! To the point that these sets sometimes take awhile because there are always more fics I want to add, until the post starts threatening to be overly long instead of a decent length–in my defense, no seriously, you guys are just too good! Also, I forced myself to stop at 69 fic recs, because yes I do think it’s funny. (Nice.) STAR WARS FIC RECS: PREQUELS RECS: ✦ a comedy in four acts by jesuisdeux, obi-wan & dooku & yoda & qui-gon & cast, time travel, 4k    This was what time-travel is: staring at the dark sockets of skulls everywhere your gaze lands on. Being haunted by ghosts long gone. The apprehension of the slow yet sure approach of the inevitable which is sending chills down your spine. ✦ No Rest for the Weary by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan & anakin & jedi & ocs, 61k    Needing a break from life at the Jedi Temple, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, visit a Jedi AgriCorps settlement on the Midrim planet of Helia. There they encounter new friends, new enemies and have new adventures, all while attempting to navigate their sometimes turbulent relationship as Master and Padawan. ✦ Stars of Tatooine by Be_Right_Back, ahsoka & kanan & mace & rex & obi-wan & cast, 10.5k    After the end of the world, Ahsoka more or less kidnaps a child, has to air some old grievances, and tries to find whatever peace the universe can still offer. All paths in the Force lead home, eventually. ✦ Festival of Light by dendral, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & rex & cast, 8.7k    During his first year at the Jedi Temple, Anakin learns that even the Jedi celebrate holidays. ✦ the master, the padawan, the Force by skatzaa, depa & caleb, 1.4k    Caleb expects things to be different after Master Depa takes him as her padawan, but really, it feels like nothing really changes. ✦ desecrate my lungs by loosingletters, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & padme & cast, 16k wip    Time-travel fix-it in which Mustafar haunts Anakin decades after it happened and years before it would. ✦ Grace by dismantlingsummer, obi-wan & anakin, 2.3k    Shortly after Mustafar, Anakin realizes what he has done. He finds Obi-Wan to beg for death. ✦ Fifth Migration by wrennette, yoda & mace & obi-wan & ki-adi & yarael & coleman & plo & palpatine & cast, 2k    How about an AU where the Sith’s Grand Plan accounted for everything -everything that is, except the fact that the Jedi temple is actually an very ancient spacecraft and the second word got to the Jedi about there being clones on Kamino, all Jedi are called back inside and they take off immediately? Just imagine the dear chancellor’s face… ✦ fill pages with scribbled ink by magneticwave, obi-wan/padme & sabe & mace & quinlan & cast, 9.8k    A year after the Invasion of Naboo, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi is invited by Queen Amidala to return to Naboo and participate in a rite known as the Night of Fireflies. What do you think is Clone etiquette for accidently mistaking one Vod for another?
Like, even irl people ocassionally call each other by the wrong names. My dad has called me by my uncle's name. And his secretary's name. And my mom's name. So what happens when one clone accidently mixes up two others?
Is it less frowned upon if they've just met or are still at Kamino amd not allowed to start showing individualism yet?
Or what happens when it's the galactic equivalent of 3 a.m. in the cafeteria after a long day, and a clone who's known another for their whole lives calls the wrong name by accident?
Say, Echo without even looking up from his empty cup, telling Rex "Fives, pass the caff would you"
1. Exhausted - Torrent
"Fives, pass the caff, would you?"
It takes Rex a moment to realize that Echo is talking to him, and then only because the caff pot is directly in front of Rex's tray.
They were coming off a hard mission - Torrent's three ARCs had been gone for almost a month chasing down rumors of a new type of commando droid. They had only returned to the Resolute about an hour ago - Jesse had gone to find Kix immediately, Fives had wandered off towards the barracks already looking half-asleep, and Echo's growling stomach had led him to the mess.
Rex looked at Echo and found that his eyes were closed even as he pushed his mug vaguely in Rex's direction.
He would forgive the slip; Echo clearly was two seconds from falling into dreams.
"How about instead of caff, I show you to your rack?" Rex suggested, standing up and moving around the table to help Echo to his feet.
(If Echo remembered the mistake, or the way Rex half-carried him to the barracks, he didn't mention it the next day.)
2. Just Met - Wolfpack
“You must be Wolffe’s new shiny,” Sinker smiled broadly as he held out a hand. “Comet, right?”
“Er... I’m Nebula,” the trooper said awkwardly. “The other new shiny. Comet is my batchmate.”
“Oh,” Sinker grimaced at his own mistake. “Sorry about that, vod.”
Nebula shrugged. “It’s alright. You didn’t know. For future reference, though, Comet has blue hair.” “Noted!” Sinker said. “It’s nice to meet you, Nebula.”
He smiled. “You too, ah... Boost, is it?”
He laughed. “Suppose I deserved that - I’m Sinker. Boost’s over there.” He gestured vaguely towards where Boost and Wolffe were having a quiet discussion on the other side of the hanger.
Nebula shook his head and laughed. “Well, at least now we know.”
3. Honest Mistake - Lightning
“Ponds! There you are.” Ponds turned at the call, a little confused - he prided himself on his ability to tell apart his brothers just by voice, but that wasn’t any of the Shebse, or Edee, and he couldn’t really think of any other CCs who would call out to him with that sort of exasperated fondness.
Walking up behind him was a grinning vod in freshly-painted armor. He did a little spin as he got closer, showing off the design he had chosen. “What do you think?”
“Looks good, trooper,” Ponds said, amused as he finally caught on to what was happening. “Tell me, when your squaddies told you to go show Ponds your new armor, did they specifically say to find the bald one?”
The vod furrowed his brow, confused. “What do you - oh kark, I mean - Commander! Sir!” He snapped an extremely belated salute, cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
Ponds laughed. “At ease, vod. No harm done. Lieutenant Ponds and I are frequently sent messages meant for the other. I like the paint - you have a good eye for details.”
“T-thank you, sir,” the trooper said, standing in a perfect parade rest.
“Go on,” Ponds waved him off with a grin. “Your squad is waiting for a dressing-down, I imagine.”
“Too right they are, sir,” the trooper groaned, spinning around and hurrying back the way he had come.
4. Messing with Nat-borns - Wave
“Commander, you want to have a little fun?”
Caleb gave Sergeant Soot a questioning look. “Fun how?”
The trooper grinned widely at the Jedi. “Just watch.”
Caleb looked in the direction Soot indicated, and saw that a nat-born officer was approaching the desk where Captain Styles and Sergeant Harp were talking quietly.
“Captain, a word?”
Without missing a beat, Harp looked up. “Yessir?”
The officer blinked, looking between the two clones in confusion. “Er... I need to speak with Captain Styles.”
“Yessir, I’m listening,” Harp said.
Styles gave the two a nod and stepped away.
Caleb bit the inside of his cheek to keep from giggling out loud and giving the game away.
Soot moved in as Styles stopped on Caleb’s other side.
“You needed me, sir?” Soot asked politely.
The nat-born officer looked even more confused. “Ah... I just need to ask Captain Styles a question.”
“Yessir,” Soot and Harp said in perfect unison. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder in parade rest, looking for all the world like whatever the officer had to say, it was the most interesting part of their day.
Caleb covered his mouth with his hand as the officer gave up and started explaining his question to the two troopers who were most definitely not Captain Styles.
5. Stress - Nova
“Wolf, get down!”
Wolf experienced the very unique feeling of Marshal Commander Bacara bodily throwing himself onto Wolf’s person in the nanosecond between hearing the shout and comprehending the message.
An explosion rattled their buckets, but it wasn’t as close as Wolf had thought it would be, after that panicked call.
There was some cursing and more shouting for Wolf over the comms and he didn’t really understand why, he was fine - would have been fine even if the Commander hadn’t tackled him -
“Kark,” Bacara grunted, hauling himself up and looking to the side, where smoke was rising. “Kark. That’s where Wolf and Keller were holed up - come on!”
There was a horrible swooping sensation in Wolf’s gut. Not him - the shouts were for the other Wolf, the armorer.
The ARC scrambled to his feet and ran after Bacara, towards where hopefully, hopefully, their medic and their armorer weren’t suffering anything more severe than some busted comm units.
+1. On Purpose - Ghost  (direct lead-in to this drabble)
“Who’s got the best Cody impression?” Waxer called, leaning into the meeting room near Cody’s office that had been quickly surrendered to the Ghosts not long after all the Vode had come Home.
“Boil!” several people shouted back immediately.
“See?” Waxer said triumphantly, turning to give Boil a smug grin. “I told you you’re the best.”
Boil gave a long-suffering sigh. “But my mustache, Waxer!”
“It’ll grow back,” he assured him, before looking back at the room. “Oi, Paint! We need your skills!”
Paint leveraged himself up from the beanbag chair in the corner and sauntered over. “What’re we doing?” they asked curiously.
“We’re turning Boil into the Vod’alor,” Waxer grinned. “Because if Cody actually attends this meeting with this stupid Republic representative, he’s going to pop a blood vessel and Brix will kill us all.”
Paint grinned and eyed Boil speculatively. “So you need a fake scar to complete the picture.”
“Got it in one,” Waxer said, looking very pleased with himself.
Boil just looked resigned to his fate, but all the Ghosts knew that as soon as he looked the part, he would take to the role with gusto.

i have ummm i have reworked commander lock yet again. born on kamino as a command class trooper, cc-1064, Lock, was among the first command generation, personally trained by alpha class troopers such as alpha-17; pre-war his first assignment was kamino security/kamino guard, where he began to formulate some pretty strong opinions about the war.
in the first year of the clone war he was assigned as the clone commander of fortuna company under general Leonie Luroon, a freshly knighted 17 year old twi'lek Jedi researcher, among the youngest ever knighted. the naturally protective and sternly kind Lock took on a sort of paternal relationship to her despite the fact she was his superior officer; the pacifist, gentle Leonie took well to Lock's guidance.
Leonie's battalion worked in unison with another small battalion, that of her previous Master, Bernardeau Namya. Bernardeau was a charming, intelligent, competitive, devoted, and funny Jedi Master who had previously spent his life as a créchemaster, and who, upon meeting Lock, fell swiftly and surely head over heels for him. The two began a rapid, intense relationship, and were secretly married four months into knowing one another. Lock and Bernie both regarded Leonie like a daughter.
then, one fateful day, while venturing into an ancient sith temple on Felucia to investigate, something terrible happened. lock cannot remember these events with any clarity, but he knows this to be true; Leonie and all of the other men never emerged from that place. Lock, having lost his left leg at the thigh within and having suffered considerable psychological trauma, was reassigned and sent back to Kamino. he took with him the only object he came out of that cave with besides his armor; a sith Holocron which he misidentified as an unusual but intriguing audio recording device.
lock always had an interest in puzzles and riddles- thus, his name- and began speaking to the holocron at night, telling it all his thoughts, feelings, fears, and hopes. this unintentionally imbued the holocron with the essence of his soul. he did not notice this...
anyways, in his placement as commander of draw company, aka kamino guard/kamino security forces, lock drastically altered the way the guard functioned. he allowed them to paint their armor blue, like the ocean, rather than the drab gray assigned to them by the kaminoans; he cared attentively for the babies, cadets, and shinies in tipoca city, and gave leeway to the guard in their otherwise strict and unforgiving life.
Bernardeau still came to see his husband on Kamino whenever he could, returning for supply runs, medical care, and new soldier rotations. They grieved their mutual loss together and, despite the earth shattering heartbreak they both endured, managed to get to know each other in new ways and connect over their loss. They were deeply in love and very committed to one another. Lock kept this relationship secret from everyone, even his beloved guard.
the guard is tasked with some of the worst challenges; they get to see their little siblings grow up, but they are also tasked to take them to their deaths, their reconditioning, their mysterious disappearances. how do you love your siblings knowing you're the one who enforces their control, manipulation? you're the eyes in the panopticon?
Lock wanted to go back to Kamino because he tired of war: he didn't want to watch all the violence and pain anymore. he didn't want to serve under a different Jedi general, either- he constantly kept up hope that his dear Leonie might return. it felt like a betrayal to replace her.
so he served instead the strange gathering of misfits that made up the guard, all people deemed unworthy of active service or who were drawn back from it. Lock found in this a small opportunity to save a few lives; he was stern and serious, known to be a bit of a hard-ass, but only because he understood the consequences of failing, making a mistake, as a clone.
locks favorite pastime is, on his guard duty outside of the baby clones nursery room, going in at night and secretly holding and talking to his younger siblings. he always found it sad, so very sad, that no one ever held or spoke to him and his peers.
when Kamino was destroyed and sank into the sea, Lock died with it. His soul, however, lived on inside of the holocron he found.. immortal, carried to safety by the surviving kamino guards, until he- within his holocron- eventually came into the possession of the rebels. he's a funny little, deeply grumpy magic 8-ball ❤️

Clone Trooper Rambles
The continuation of my time spent with some imaginary clone troopers.
Warnings for descriptions of recovery from a medical procedure.

Toast
“I want toast,” my sister Lia said.
“So make toast,” I croaked out. My throat felt fine after the surgery, but my voice was so hoarse that it was hard for people to understand me. I wasn’t offended - I had trouble understanding myself half the time.
My mom smiled. “I left the bread on the counter. The silverware is in the drawer next to the dishwasher.”
“No, I want toast, I just don’t want to make toast,” Lia complained.
I rolled my eyes - I figured that probably conveyed my feelings better than rasping out an insult would have.
“Shut up,” Lia told me. “You’re not the one who has to deal with the cursed toaster.”
“What a hard life,” I said dryly.
“What’s wrong with the toaster?” my mom asked, too used to Lia and I bickering to be distracted by it then.
Lia gestured dramatically at it. “It literally flings the toast out onto the counter when it pops up. It’s happened to me twice already!”
I glanced around the room, frowning at the troopers as my mom went to help Lia with the toaster. All of them were watching with interest as the two scientists put a so-called ‘test slice’ in the toaster… Well, all of them except one. Tup was paying a suspicious amount of attention to anything other than the small box on the counter.
“Tup, did you mess with the toaster?” I asked silently.
He only shrugged, but his silence caught the attention of the other troopers.
“C’mon, Tup,” Fives complained. “Why?”
Tup sighed. “I wanted to know how it worked. I thought I could put it back together after I was done. It should be working like normal.”
Lia and my mother laughed hysterically as the test slice finished toasting and launched itself out of the toaster, landing on the counter and narrowly avoiding a fall onto the floor below. It was funny, and I couldn’t keep a rasping chuckle from escaping me.
“Normal?” Hardcase repeated, elbowing Tup as he laughed. “Doesn’t look normal to me, vod!”
“Like you’re an expert on normalcy, ‘Case?” one of the others asked teasingly. Hardcase stuck his tongue out at the other trooper.
“What happened to putting it back together?” Rex asked.
Tup straightened. Even after such an extended period away from the strict hierarchy of the GAR, the men treated their captain with respect. “I was wrong, I couldn’t do it.”
My mother and Lia were watching the toaster intently. They had loaded a second test slice and set a plate where the last one had fallen. I gestured to them. “If nothing else, you’ve prevented another boring afternoon for them. That’s worth it to me.”
“Really?” Rex asked, his skepticism struggling to carry as he raised his voice. Lia and my mom were getting loud in their excitement when the toast didn’t land on the plate. In fact, it was lying on the other side of the counter from where the plate was waiting. “You don’t care that he messed up your toaster?”
“A bug is only a bug if it bothers you. Otherwise, it’s a feature,” I said with a shrug. “Besides, it isn’t my toaster. We rented this place, remember?”
Now it was the troopers who had cheered. I wasn’t deluded enough to think they were cheering about what I had said. The toaster testers had found yet another way to launch the bread and the troopers were fully absorbed.
“How could I forget?” Rex asked darkly. “Tup, fix the toaster.”
“Yes, sir.”
