Dream?
Whether this is a dream, or an experience of a life, I don't know...it just seemed so real... It is the time of old, before the one god chased out the many, in the great world empire that was Rome... Northern Italy, small village, I am a hunter of some reknown, young but unmarried; The harvest was bad, Dyoniusus is not pleased. I am hunting alone at night..deep in the forest, only the light of the full moon to guide me, I had already bagged a rabbit, its lifeless body hung limp from my belt. Shadows abound, hiding my prey. I have been told of a local legend, a massive buck that no one seems to be able to get yet. I keep an arrow across the string, but not knoked. Suddenly, I sense movement to my side...I knock the arrow, and whirl about, string pulled, looking for my target, I see...a woman! I could see her clearly, athough she stood in the shadows. Her skin seemed to glow by itself...she wore a long gown, but the outline of her body was visible through it...she smiled at me...it took a second to realize who she was... With practied hands, I deftly unknock the arrow, and in one smooth motion, put it back in the quiver. Then I dropped to one knee bowed my head, and placed the rabbit on the ground in front of me. Then without looking up, I said: "Oh Diana, Goddess of the Moon, and the hunt, I beseech you. My family is suffering, our crops went bad, please take this rabbit as a sacrifce, and help us." She said nothing, just a gentle laugh, and then silence...when I looked up, she was gone, and so was the rabbit!!! But then I noticed, just behind where whe stood, was the biggest deer I had ever seen!! The animal just stood ther, not moving, so I got an arrow off my back, and let one shot fly...one shot! It felled the animal... I had to get an oxen cart to take the deer back home...it was enough food to keep us fed until the next harvest... I never took credit for it, never married, for only having seen her once, no human girl could compare...
