If there's ever a crossover between the Absolute Universe and the main continuity it's gonna be real awkward between the Diana and Circe of the main universe for the foreseeable future.

This is her dream come true. The yuri fanfics write them-fucking-selves. I love the idea of Diana & Minerva talking non-stop about mythology and Diana being shocked at inacuracies but also super invested in them like watching a movie or listening to an audiobook. Meanwhile, Minerva just trying to stop herself from screaming from her adorable enthusiasm.

"For I am Diana of Themyscira, last of the Amazons, daughter of Circe, princess of Hell, witch of the Wild Isle"
The last few pages of this comic were cathartic, narration boxes are by Circe and I'm really hoping for the next issues to see more of her mother-daughter relationship with Diana, because for what we get here it feels different and interesting, Kelly Thompson is a good writer, I think this series will be a satisfying journey

Lughnasadh or Lammas is a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of the harvest season. Historically it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland & the Isle of Man. Traditionally it is held on 1 August, or about halfway between the summer solstice & autumn equinox. In recent centuries some of the celebrations have shifted to the Sunday nearest this date.
Lughnasadh is mentioned in early Irish literature & has pagan origins. The festival is named after Lugh the god of craftsmanship. It was also founded by the god Lugh as a funeral feast & athletic competition/funeral games in memory of his foster-mother Tailtiu. She was said to have died of exhaustion after clearing the plains of Ireland for agriculture.
• Tailtiu may have been an earth goddess who represented the dying vegetation that fed mankind.
• Another tale says that Lugh founded the festival in memory of his two wives, the sisters Nás & Bói.
In the Middle Ages it involved great gatherings that included ceremonies, athletic contests (most notably the Tailteann Games which were extremely dangerous), horse racing, feasting, matchmaking & trading.
• With the coming of Christianity to the Celtic lands, the old festival of Lughnasadh took on Christian symbolism. Loaves of bread were baked from the first of the harvested grain & placed on the church altar on the first Sunday of August. The Christianized name for the feast of Lughnasadh is Lammas which means “loaf mass.
Some believe this is the time where the God has weakened & is losing his strength as seen in the waning of the day's light. The Goddess is pregnant with the young God who will be born on Yule.

Green Rider by Kristen Britain (1998-present)
On her long journey home from school after a fight which will surely lead to her expulsion, Karigan G'ladheon ponders her future as she trudges through the immense forest called Green Cloak. But her thoughts are interrupted by the clattering of hooves as a galloping horse bursts from the woods, the rider slumped over his mount's neck, impaled by two black-shafted arrows. As the young man lies dying on the road, he tells Karigan that he is a Green Rider, one of the legendary messengers of the king, and that he bears a "life and death" message for King Zachary. He begs Karigan to carry his message, warning her not to read it, and when she reluctantly agrees, he makes her swear on his sword to complete his mission "for love of country." As he bestows upon her the golden winged-horse brooch which is the symbol of his office, he whispers on his dying breath, "Beware the shadow man..."
Karigan's promise changes her life forever. Pursued by unknown assassins, following a path only her horse seems to know, and accompanied by the silent specter of the original messenger, she herself becomes a legendary Green Rider. Caught up in a world of deadly danger and complex magic, compelled by forces she cannot understand, Karigan is hounded by dark beings bent on seeing that the message, and its reluctant carrier, never reach their destination.

When an administrative mistake sees him named the civil service liaison to a hidden magical society, he discovers what’s been operating beneath the unextraordinary reality he’s always known.
Now Robin must contend with the beauty and danger of magic, an excruciating deadly curse, and the alarming visions of the future that come with it—not to mention Edwin Courcey, his cold and prickly counterpart in the magical bureaucracy, who clearly wishes Robin were anyone and anywhere else.
Robin’s predecessor has disappeared, and the mystery of what happened to him reveals unsettling truths about the very oldest stories they’ve been told about the land they live on and what binds it. Yetu remembers for everyone, and the memories, painful and wonderful, traumatic and terrible and miraculous, are destroying her. And so, she flees to the surface, escaping the memories, the expectations, and the responsibilities—and discovers a world her people left behind long ago.
Yetu will learn more than she ever expected to about her own past—and about the future of her people. If they are all to survive, they’ll need to reclaim the memories, reclaim their identity—and own who they really are.

D&D Cartoon Characters As MTG Cards
Was it the D&DBeyond free adventure where the carton kids were the pregens? to coincide with the new Players Handbook? Was it a Brazillian car commercial that stirred a long dormant foreign fandom? Was it my friend @bubblytarts slowly being dragged into Magic the Gathering kicking and screaming? In any case. I decided to try and think what legendary creatures from throughout Magic The Gathering you could Secret Lair style reskin for the kids from the Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon! All of them are going to be legendary creatures who can pilot their own deck. Join me!
Tumblr media
Starting with Sheila!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sheila the party rogue could of course turn invisible via her cloak. So Etrata, Deadly Fugitive working with cloak to turn creatures face down while also caring about assassins (a rogue subclass) was peak. It had to be done!
Next is Presto!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Presto having the random item hat could have been Delina Wild Mage, but consider. Using Averna to build a cascading shell into wild cards and having Delina in the 99. Also pair with Flamekin Herald (who you could make Varla from the one episode) and give the commander cascade!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is Bobby!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Bobby the Barbarian my thought was Maarika (who yes I know was first Zangief but shhh). The fact excess damage is turned into breaking stuff feels perfect for the club he gets and you can put the Secret Lair Crash Through for Uni in the deck to get double duty of the excess.
Tumblr media
Next is Diana!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diana I wanted to make a monk proper because like. Yes her title is acrobat but... ya know. And that led me to Prowess and Narset, Enlightened Exile! You can make the exile aspect into being on another world, but honestly I think any prowess commander can do here!
Next is Eric!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Eric. I admittedly struggled a bit, BUT I ran into Jared Carthalion, True Heir. The Monarch mechanic feels right for an Eric card to play into. Several episodes of the show temporarily tempt Eric with or properly give him power and authority over the others, like the time he became Dungeon Master for a day. And the ever changing head of the monarch works very well for that. Added to the fact that while you are the monarch nothing hits you is perfect for the shield!
Next is Hank!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Hank I was gonna do the ranger aesthetic, but more than class, Hank is "team leader boy." SO I went with Tazri, Beacon of Unity. Cuz a 5 color commander that can bring out the party is perfect, caring about the card types that mirror the titles they were given, and also it cares about the party mechanic and gathering the gang and their allies. Something well within the purview of a good team leader!
Finally Venger!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Venger affinity for artifacts is the funniest mechanic to give the bbeg who spent the whole ass show chasing after 6 or so magic items. The fact that Rakdos also lets you bring in Beholders, Goblinoids, Slaad, Giants and other classic D&D Monsters from both the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms and Battle for Baldur's Gate. Things like Asmodeus, Acererak, and even more villainous icons of the Realm along with powerful artifacts!
And that my friends are my picks! I hope you enjoyed them..............
Psych! Doing one more for Niko!
Tumblr media
Niko is from Stormwreck Isle and then the adventure of Uni and the Hunt for the Lost Horn. Designed mostly to ensure there was a healer class for mechanic reasons all we have about Niko is a throw away line about being "new to the D&D multiverse". so how do I use that?..
SIMPLE. So I hear "New to the multiverse" and I think "Flip Walker" showing a newly sparked planeswalker! So. Looking through the existing Flip Walkers I settled on Tamiyo! Focusing less on dealing damage and more about protecting other planeswalkers and gaining informational advantage seems like the kind of thing someone new to the multiverse would focus on. Plus caring about spells when they flip into a planeswalker adds to them being a caster class. It's kind of a stretch but hey. I had so very little to work with.
Tumblr media
And with that. For real. I am finally done!
These are only my takes though. What would you set these characters as as commander cards, is there one of them you wanna build? What would you put in their deck? Let me know! If I do end up brewing any of these I will post decklists via Moxfield! :D

Absolute Wonder Woman #1: Everything New is Old Again
Tl;dr turns out the easiest way to write “grimdark edgy Wonder Woman” is to just…write Wonder Woman.
Preface: This is spoilered, as it will cover both Absolute Wonder Woman #1 and Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons. As such, you have been warned.
In interviews for this series, Kelly Thompson stated that while it wasnt meant to be a direct sequel, that we the reader could (and probably should) read Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons to get a sort of baseline for the inspiration, and what to expect from Absolute Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman Historia is a re-telling of the history (natch) of the Amazons, and how they ended up on Themyscira. Diana herself doesn’t actually feature until her birth at the end of Volume 3, but her influence is felt throughout the book. Diana is, in a lot of ways, a feminist icon, and the story of the Amazons being liberators of women and girls from the yoke of Men is inspiring and moving. The big twist ending, however, is that in this story, their immortality and existence on Themyscira is meant to be a punishment. Apollo demands retribution for the death of a young boy in his temple, as well as the death of Zeus’ son Heracles (an inversion of his 9th Labor). The goddesses that conspired to create the Amazons are forgiven in exchange, as well as Zeus’s wife Hera, and the Amazons are seemingly destined to fade into obscurity, a forgotten people on a secret island. Of course, we know that doesn’t happen. Hera, because she had not directly been involved with the creation of the Amazons, is able to move behind the scenes, convincing Dionysus to lie to Apollo and say that exile is preferable to death (because the dead can become legends). Hera takes the soul of the first child Hippolyta loses (I believe), and with the other goddesses, grants her a blessed daughter, bringing the clay sculpture to life and giving her the name Diana.
In this universe (shaped by the energy of Darkseid), Apollo (as the warden of the Amazons) discovers baby Diana and takes her away from Themyscira, electing to bring her to Hell and leave her with Circe, who seems to have earned a similar punishment of exile. Circe susses out rather quickly that Apollo seems to be frightened of Diana, and wonders why. Especially when Apollo bans Circe from even being able to say the word “Amazon.” (Note: I wonder what it sounds like when she tries. I imagine it would sound like something jarring, like another harsh sound overdubbed on it). He seems to want to hide Diana’s heritage from her. And over the course of the issue, parallel to Diana’s first appearance on Earth fighting the creatures attacking Gateway City, we come to understand why.
Thanks to the blessings of the goddesses, Diana is a force. For compassion, and empathy, and love. We see how she affects Circe, who lives in a hovel; we see it turn into a simple, yet cozy home by the time Diana is an adult. There is a warmth that was not there before, and it’s arguably thanks to Diana’s influence. Despite not knowing Themyscira (because she was taken as a newborn), and despite never meeting her sisters, Diana even knows that she is Amazon. She knows the word, even though she’s never heard it before the moment she says it for the first time. And it culminates in that powerful final panel, where Diana names herself. “Diana of Themyscira, last of the Amazons, Daughter of Circe, Princess of Hell, Witch of the Wild Isle.”
I think of Bryan Hill, the creator of Ultimate Black Panther, where he discusses "major rules" (core principles and characteristics) vs. "minor rules" (meaning more flexibility with character designs, themes, etc.) when writing a character. For Diana, that means that she is an Amazon of Themyscira. Diana is a hero. Diana has compassionate empathy and love. Those are some of the major rules that I think Kelly Thompson has maintained for this version of Diana. The other stuff is mutable (She's a witch, she has a BUSTER SWORD, Circe is her surrogate mother). And Ms. Thompson nails it. 10/10 First Issue.
As to where the series could go…
It feels almost guaranteed that there will be a cliffhanger where Diana discovers the location of Themyscira and possibly arrives there. There’s no telling what would be there, or if the Amazons (and Hippolyta) are even alive, since Apollo says that “when their service to Zeus ends” they will be imprisoned for eternity. I imagine that, because the (male) gods of Olympus are bigger dicks in this than in Wonder Woman Historia, there could be a confrontation with them as well. But I think the easiest bet to make is that Diana is still going to be the purest of heart of the Trinity, just as she was in Rucka’s run (Wonder Woman Volume 5 Annual #1). No matter the universe, it is who she is, and was, and always will be.
"Can you love as the goddesses love you? Have you the courage to bear the pain that will surely attend that love? Of course you do. We know, because we recognize our own. We know you...you are an Amazon." - Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons, Vol. #3.

Reza (Canon) - First mentioned in The Isle of the Lost. He's the son of the former royal astronomer of Agrabah and Carlos' rival. 13
"Harry" Harold (Canon) - Son of Horace, one of Carlos' minions. First mentioned in The Isle of the Lost. 13
"Jase" Jason (Canon) - Son of Jasper, one of Carlos' minions. First mentioned in The Isle of the Lost. 13
Mable (OC) - One of Mad Maddy's sisters. 13
Arya (OC) - Daughter of the Hunter from Snow White, and Hendrik's little sister. 11
Hopefully this wasn't too chaotic, but this is also definitely not everyone on the Isle. If you have questions about any of the kids, feel free to ask! And if you have a suggestion for a villain with kids, I'd love to hear it.

So I got a new TV, but it didn't have any RCA ports. I've been playing some old games on SNES and I think to myself, I should do myself a favor and get a tube tv, I will enjoy the art of the games more if I'm looking at it the way it was meant to look.
I go on the ole Offer Up, and all the tube TVs are $70+ and at least a half hour away. They're harder to find now, and I guess a lot of folks like me want one again, go figure. I find a guy, he says $70, I says "ok".
I go to meet him, very nice guy, and I bring my SNES cause, ya know, don't want to find out it's a dud when I get home. He has some old home movie in it, so we know it works, but when I plug in the SNES and flip on Donkey Kong Country? Nada. Dead as Jacob Marley if you catch my drift.
We poke the thing and prod it, and I know my SNES works because I was playing Final Fantasy IV (II) not a week ago. Guy says "look, you seem nice enough, and I mostly don't want to throw a thing like this in the dump if someone might give it a new life. Take it for free, no worries." I say "Thank you very much kind sir, I will do my best".
I get the thing home, have dinner with the wife, watch the Princess Diana Musical- terrible musical- and after we're done I get to troubleshooting. See, I have a pile of spare parts and just enough know how to be dangerous, so first things first I check the port with a machine that I know works: my Wii. Boots up like there's nothing to it.
Now I'm thinking, "ah nuts, did it finally happen, did good ole Snessie finally buy it on that car ride?" I try a new RCA cable. Nothing. I try a different cart, Super Mario All Stars. Bubkis. At this point I don't mind telling you I'm sweating cause this repair job ain't what I thought it was, and while a free TV ain't a bad deal it means diddly if the Gray Lady don't sing.
Then, I try that Finally Fantasy IV (II) cart I mentioned earlier. Boom. She lights up and I do not mind telling you it was the most gorgeous thing I seen since I walked down the isle to meet my wife on my wedding day.
But now I have a new worry, see? Those carts, DK and Super Mario All Stars? I've been keepin em safe for more than a quarter century. Mario is as much my bro as he is Luigi's, and Donkey Kong Country is the first game I ever truly loved. Now I'm lookin down the prospect of burying my brother and my first love. I tell ya I was near tears.
So I did the only thing I knew to do. The one thing everyone told you not to do but did anyways. I took those cartridges, and I blew right on the contacts. I blew like a wind out of the north, wild and furious as you like.
I slotted Donkey Kong Country in, and I prayed.
Ladies and germs and all those around and outside that binary, hear this:
The kiss of life works.

With at max four characters per region with a demon, celestial and final boss to round it off. 28 characters in total, which is way too hopeful, but let me cope. Explanations for each one below the cut.
I tried to approached it with a mix of realism, which is why we have characters who have already been shown off, and a dream character list. Even then, I had to cut characters I think would've been interesting.
Tumblr media
Zaun/Piltover: Honestly, this was the easiest one with Zaunites, but I had to pick someone for Piltover and I went with Blitzcrank. Imagine he has his sitting down animation from the Wild Rift trailer. Alternative characters were Warwick for the monstrous side of Zaun and bringing the family together, or Jayce for being the Piltover Poster Boy.
Ionia: For Ionia, I wanted someone for the spiritual aspect and someone to represent the factions spli between the Kinkou, and the order of shadow. So I went Karma and Zed.
Demacia: Sylvanas as a transforming character would be fun. and if we need a character to represent the base demacian, Fiora would be more interesting an Garen. I will admit I have a little soft spot for the guy, but I have to be ruthless. I had ideas for Kayle and Morgana too, but I had to cut them.
Bilgewater: I tossed up between Gangplank and Fortune. And while I like Sarah a lot, I picked Gangplank because I can imagine him biting an orange and he's immune to damage for five seconds. Pyke was added because I think his moves would be cool. Imagine if he sunk under the ground before leaping out to slam the opponent with his blade?
Yordles: I chose Kled for this, because every faction needs a comedy character. I also wondered for Gnar, and I almost did, but I think Kled would be easier for hitboxes since he'd be on Skaarl.
Noxus: Darius and Katarina are already in, so I had only one pick left. And, I felt Swain was the best choice. If Katarina wasn't there, I might have gone for Samira for the flashy gun-work.
Freljord: You do not understand how much I wanted Nunu and Willump there and I almost did. But I had to add some demigod rep and Volibear was easiest. Lissandra might be tricky, but I think she could be a fun ice character with her being an ages old sorceress. And as for Braum? I like him.
Ixtal: This was harder than you think. I narrowed my choices down to Neeko, Quiyana and Nidalee. I also thought of Rengar, but I'd have to add Kha'Zix too and I'll explain why I couldn't do that later. But, despite my good choices, I chose Neeko because shapeshifting is always a fun concept for a fighting game. Maybe the other two can get their chance if I ever do a DLC list.
Shurima: I went with Taliyah here because I played Tremor in MKX and I'd want to see how they'd handle her. Maybe she gets a redesign that shows her in the present day?
Targon: This was harder than you'd think as well. I chose Pantheon because I think he'd be cool. I could have done Leona and Diana, have the exes sword fight under the sun, but if I picked one I'd need to add the other and I didn't have space. To be honest, Soraka is here because of personal bias. Imagine that her victory quotes are just encouraging and wise. Leona was very close, and was almost there.
Shadow Isles: This went between Thresh and Kalista as characters to best represent the darkness of the isles. And while I like Kalista and have interesting ideas for her spears, I feel like Thresh is a perfect pick for the cruelty of the Isles.
Void: I could have done Kha'Zix, but then I'd have to add Rengar and we already have Ixtal sorted. Bel'Veth is too much of a final boss character and we already have a transforming character with Shyvana. I had an idea for Malzahar and Kassadin as the polar opposites of humans in the void, one who embraced it and the other who despises it, but in the end, I picked Vel'Koz because of his alien feel. Ideas for his move-set? Watch Shuma Gorath from MVC3, add some lasers and scientific ramblings.
Demon: Fiddlesticks. He'd be so much fun in motion.
Celestial: Bard would be an excellent joke character.
Final Boss: I was originally going to pick Mordekaiser because... look at him. But then I had an idea. Atrox wants to plunge the world into a chaotic war, right? in the hopes that by destroying reality, it will destroy him too? Well, who better a final boss for a fighting game, that by someone who relies on bloodshed to keep his form?
And that's it, what do you think? Who would you pick? Let me know if you'd want a DLC wish list too.
