SPIRITUALITY IN ISLAM: PART 44: JADHB AND INJIDHAB (ATTRACTION AND THE FEELING OF BEING ATTRACTED TOWARD GOD)
In the language of Sufism, jadhba (attraction) means that a servant is attracted toward God by God Himself, purified thereby of human imperfection in spiritual elevation, and equipped with Divine Attributes or exalted morals as specified in the Qur'an.
It also means feeling and observing clearly the manifestations of Divine Majesty and Unity. A purified soul capable of receiving such manifestations abandons itself to the tides originating from the realms beyond and, like a competent swimmer, swims in ecstasy, in deep submission to God and without fear and anxiety.
If attraction means that one is drawn by a sacred power linked with his or her essence toward the purpose of his or her creation and to the point indicated by his or her true, primordial nature, injidhab means the willing acceptance of this invitation sent to one’s spirit.
Attraction is so great a Divine favor that it cannot be obtained through ordinary means or causes. It is God Himself Who grants to His pure-hearted servant both the attraction and the ability to receive it:
That is the grace of God: He bestows it on whom He wills (57:21).
This bestowal includes in a single, passing moment many portions of time filled with events; gives a single step toward Him the potential to reach the gardens of Paradise; and equips a glance with the capacity to turn a piece of coal into a diamond. Great distances that seem impossible for one’s own will and power to cover are covered in a moment by God’s attracting, and high summits are reached by His uplifting, as stated in:
A single instance of the All-Merciful’s attracting equals to the nearness to God acquired through the good actions of both humanity and jinn.
Those whose spirits feel the mysteries of faith, who practice Islam and perfect goodness and devotion through God’s attracting, are called “those who follow the way of Uways,” for they are taught directly by God or the Prophet. In other words, they do not need a human teacher or guide. Since they feel continuously attracted toward God by God Himself, they live in incessant ecstasy and amazement at what they observe of Divine truths and manifestations.
At times, there is a virtuous circle between attraction and regular worship and austerity. A traveler on the way to God is favored with attraction in proportion to the degree of his or her worship and austerity, and is devoted to worship and austerity to the extent of the attraction felt toward God. So long as such people act in accordance with the Shari'a, this virtuous circle continues. If they break away from the light of Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, displays of free and easy behavior in their relationship with God begin to appear, and religious obligations might begin to be neglected.
Attraction is, first of all, a capability and a Divine gift given in advance. Without this gift, a traveler on the way cannot feel attracted through austerity, worship, and self-purification; nor can he or she discern the waves of attraction and being attracted on the face of the universe caused by the light coming from the Divine Name the All-Loving. Such an undiscerning person has no knowledge of true spirituality:
Why should my guide be concerned with me
Unless I have the attraction of love?
Why should he be concerned with me
Unless I receive inspiration from God?
It sometimes happens that a believer attracted in this way is overwhelmed by the gifts coming from God, so that whatever is other than His manifestations disappears, and all cares with the world or the Hereafter are forgotten. In a mood expressed by the following couplet:
I am, by nature, so attracted to the roaring rise of the sea
That I feel as if engulfed in the bounteous gifts of God,
One’s self and all other parts of creation are seen as being intoxicated with the attraction of the Holy, Attractive Being:
Everything is intoxicated with the wine of love of God and the attraction of this love. Celestial objects and angels are intoxicated; the heavens and Earth are intoxicated; elements and plants are intoxicated; and animals, human beings, and all other beings (are intoxicated).
There are two kinds of attraction. One is felt inwardly and is not manifested outwardly by its possessor. Such a person loves God, feels great contentment with and pleasure in fulfilling His commandments, and feels incessantly attracted to the source of a deeper delight. The second kind of attraction is that which is manifested. One who feels such attraction cannot help but manifest it as ecstasy. Feeling attracted by God with a continuously increasing force, he or she lives as an ecstatic, in excessive joy and with great happiness.
Those who are unaware of such degrees of spiritual elevation think the person is crazy. To express this degree of ecstasy, the following couplet of ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Majdi Effendi is quite meaningful:
There is a kind of madness called attraction, which is a true triumph.
By means of it madness reaches mysteries lofty and great.
Attraction may look like madness in some respects; in reality, it is quite different. For example, an ecstatic who revolves in waves of attraction may lose some perception and show signs of madness by behaving in ways incompatible with sound reasoning and the Shari'a. In most cases, an ecstatic exceeds normal human standards in all senses or powers of perception to the extent that, in the light of Sunna, he or she travels in realms that cannot be reached by the reason, other faculties, and senses of ordinary people. Therefore, those who see such a person think that he or she is crazy.
However, traveling (in spiritual realms) beyond the reach and power of normal standards of intellect or reason, by using that power and other senses along with the help of God, is completely different from the type of madness resulting from mental illness, which is characterized by less-than-normal standards of intellect or reason.

Anya’s SwynWriMo : Task 20
Personality Playlist: Create a playlist for a personality trait for a character!
Big Leo (and Cancer Cusp) Energy
A lot of people do not believe in astrological cusps, but for the purposes of this playlist… I do! I was the first triplet, so I picked a totally non-canonically birthday for them that they must now all obey (woops), but I did specifically pick a Leo/Cancer cusp because I felt like those were two very strong personalities that you could either lean into one or the other or both! Pepa’s definitely more on the Leo side, and a lot of these songs are about that big personality. The glamor! The showmanship! Wanting to be in the center of attention! But she also has a big Cancer streak, and that comes across in some of the moodier and more emotional songs.
Link below!
Choice lyrics highlighted, with some liner notes:
There's a she-wolf in the closet
Open up and set it free (Ah-ooh)
There's a she-wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe
She-Wolf/Loba - Shakira
I put the English and Spanish versions on here and I’m counting that as one song. Yes, Leos are lions, but I think the idea of having a free-spirited untamable animal side to yourself is very Leo.
—
Look most of these are just bops about being an awesome person IDK what else to say.
I live for the applause, applause, applause
I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause
Applause - Lady Gaga
I'm feelin' myself, I'm feelin' myself, I'm feelin' myself
Feeling Myself - Nicki Minaj/Beyonce
—
There's only two types of people in the world
The ones that entertain, and the ones that observe
Well baby I'm a put-on-a-show kinda girl
Don't like the backseat, gotta be first
Circus - Britney Spears
This is just such a Leo song! Put! On! A Show! Kinda! Girl! Yas! Queen!
Find light in the beautiful sea, I choose to be happy
You and I, you and I, we're like diamonds in the sky
You're a shooting star I see, a vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I'm alive, we're like diamonds in the sky
Diamonds - Rihanna
My one, it lingers when we're done
You'll believe God is a woman
God is a woman - Ariana Grande
--
Cancer Szn transition here....
Think I'll miss you forever
Like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky
Later's better than never
Even if you're gone, I'm gonna drive (drive), drive
Summertime Sadness - Lana Del Rey
Listen. This is the quintessential Cancer Season Song. Miss Lana is the Queen of Cancer Feelings, and yeah okay this is such an overdone song but fight me, it’s perfect. It’s longing and desperate and full of big feelings.
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name
Your name
Set Fire to the Rain - Adele
Also in the Cancer cusp mood!
I've got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart
Elastic Heart (Piano Version) - Sia
--
Okay back to the Leo vibez
I can cast a spell of secrets you can tell
Mix a special brew, put fire inside of you
Anytime you feel danger or fear
Then instantly I will appear, 'cause
I’m Every Woman - Chaka Chan
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Digging the dancing queen
Dancing Queen - ABBA
I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie (no fighting)
And I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see, baby, this is perfection?
Hips Don’t Lie (featr. Wyclef Jean) - Shakira
You got to strut like you mean it
Free your mind
It's not enough just to dream it
Come on, come on, get up
Strut - The Cheetah Girls
I want it, I got it, I want it, I got it
7 rings - Ariana Grande
I want fabulous,
That is my simple request,
All things fabulous,
Bigger and better and best,
I need something inspiring to help me get along,
I need a little fabulous is that so wrong?
Fabulous - Sharpay

found a poem I wrote a while back, I don't remember which but I was either very high while writing it or tripping on mushrooms, figured it might as well be the first writing i post here (tumblr might format it weird because i'm copy-pasting from the original document i wrote it in, i don't have the time to write the whole thing back out rn) also just kinda wondering if theres a limit on how long i can make the title because dang it just seems to keep going. anyway heres some poem for you.
Let me take my sunglasses off so i can live in the light
I can’t see through the darkened lenses i have
Dig deep in your crates for a forgotten transcendence
But do not forget that what was done, can be repeated
You have cut deep in my heart
A well of sorrow and joy
That can spell my doom or my ecstasy
A place of both Is and Is Not,
Deep beneath the skin that girds my flesh
And beneath the flesh within
And thus we have become like sisters
Life comes to me from distant shores
Wild, primal, and free from worry
Yet refined as well, beyond rage or mindless hate
Beyond the void of Is Not, in the verdant fields of Is
It's very soul, blood, soil, roots, stems, and blossoms
The vital organ of love
But I find myself in a field of poppies and morning glories
Where i may lay in comfort and grow warm
A journey i will take someday there
With one whose eyes are like blossoms
And fall together into the meadow
Among the poppies and morning glories
Finding stars far above the sweet scent of the flowers
Basking in the sun, shaded by passing clouds
Waking in the glory of a morning of new life
Walking in the flowers and feeling life beneath our feet
Breathing the air, thick with poppies and morning glories
As the sun hangs low and strikes a spark against the horizon
The flame of life we bear roars to life
In the dance and crackle of the flames, we find heavenly wonder
Which i have only but tasted of before
But we must arise at dawn, and leave behind the poppies and morning glories
My soul cries out to those who have come before
Those who have left this plane of life
Just as they have left me wondrous things
And brought me joys beyond any other
They fly, like her, about my mind and spirit
The angels of melody and harmony
The hands that guide mine to create
The arms that lift me up from despair
Joined with those pierced hands that did save my life
They bid me bring beauty to this world that does suffer so
As they do us all, if we will listen for their voice
Dulcet tones that ring from the beyond
The angels of Is, the perpetuators of true beauty
The glory indescribable
The peace that passes all understanding
(as it has been said)
I cry for your pain that is suffered for me
I fail you many days
I am weak of will, though strong of heart
When i may find my strength, i do not know
When i need it, i think, i shall know
But i cannot speak of you and lament so
For far more than i have earned you have forgiven
And far more than i deserve have i been given
And yet i know that this is not a burden to carry
But rather what i must bring to the world
And bring it i happily will
For nothing can bring greater joy
Than bringing joy to another
And this opportunity you have given me
Along with many others, as you have given to all the people of the world
For you are the glory indescribable
The one who is like jasper and carnelian
I am the diamond formed from coal
A more pure form than what i once was
A statue cut out from a chunk of marble that looked like a man
The battered blade that must be reforged anew
Though i must do these tasks myself
I must place the pressure on the coal
The chisel to the marble, and the blade to the forge
These must be done by my hands
I relish the gift i have been given
To try my hand at a deeper creation
To work as the maker did
Though never so great
Our own creations are the image of that which came before
And that which came before is the image in which we are made
In my own being will i write my opus
And thus will i come ever closer to that glory that shines celestial upon our souls from above

ISLAM 101: Spirituality in Islam: Part 40
Jadhb and Injidhab (Attraction and the Feeling of Being Attracted Toward God)
Attraction is so great a Divine favor that it cannot be obtained through ordinary means or causes. It is God Himself Who grants to His pure-hearted servant both the attraction and the ability to receive it: That is the grace of God: He bestows it on whom He wills (57:21). This bestowal includes in a single, passing moment many portions of time filled with events; gives a single step toward Him the potential to reach the gardens of Paradise; and equips a glance with the capacity to turn a piece of coal into a diamond. Great distances that seem impossible for one’s own will and power to cover are covered in a moment by God’s attracting, and high summits are reached by His uplifting, as stated in: A single instance of the All-Merciful’s attracting equals to the nearness to God acquired through the good actions of both humanity and jinn. [2]
Those whose spirits feel the mysteries of faith, who practice Islam and perfect goodness and devotion through God’s attracting, are called “those who follow the way of Uways,” [3] for they are taught directly by God or the Prophet.
Why should my guide be concerned with me Unless I have the attraction of love? Why should he be concerned with me Unless I receive inspiration from God?
It sometimes happens that a believer attracted in this way is overwhelmed by the gifts coming from God, so that whatever is other than His manifestations disappears, and all cares with the world or the Hereafter are forgotten. In a mood expressed by the following couplet:
I am, by nature, so attracted to the roaring rise of the sea That I feel as if engulfed in the bounteous gifts of God,
One’s self and all other parts of creation are seen as being intoxicated with the attraction of the Holy, Attractive Being:
[1] According to Islam, every child is born sinless and with inborn capabilities, faculties, and nature to accept Islam and live according to its. This is called “primordial nature” (fitra). However, the adverse education he or she later receives, as well as the surrounding environment, greatly affect his or her choice.
[2] Al-'Ajluni, Kashf al-Khafa’, 1:332.
[3] Uways al-Qarani is regarded by some as the greatest Muslim saint of the first Islamic century.

If facing, was forced to pray: so subtly is the spoils of country’s good—which no more. Fond Thought!

He’s usually not wearing much beyond a cloth draped over his body (in white or purple) and/or a leopard pelt, but sometimes appears in in casual modern clothing with a leopard-print jacket. He often wears a grape headdress, and he sometimes has horns resembling a bull’s, ram’s, or goat’s. His laughter is both musical and utterly insane. His aura is the reddish-purple of grapes. Hymns to Dionysus
Homeric Hymn 26 to Dionysus
I begin to sing of ivy-crowned Dionysus, the loud-crying god, Splendid son of Zeus and glorious Semele. The rich-haired Nymphs received him in their bosoms from the lord his father And fostered and nurtured him carefully in the dells of Nysa, Where by the will of his father He grew up in a sweet-smelling cave, Being reckoned among the immortals. But when the goddesses had brought him up, a god oft hymned, Then began he to wander continually through the woody coombes, Thickly wreathed with ivy and laurel. And the Nymphs followed in his train with him for their leader; And the boundless forest was filled with their outcry. And so hail to you, Dionysus, god of abundant clusters! Grant that we may come again rejoicing to this season, And from that season onwards for many a year.
Orphic Hymn to Dionysus
Dionysos I call, loud-roaring and divine, Primeval God, a two-fold shape is thine:
Thy various names and attributes I sing, O, twice-born, thrice begotten, Bacchic king:
Wild, ineffable, two-form'd, obscure, two-horn'd, With ivy crown'd, howling, pure.
Bull-fac'd, and warlike, bearer of the vine, Endowed with counsel prudent [Eubouleos] and divine:
Triennial, whom the leaves of vines adorn, Of Zeus and Persephone, occultly born.
Immortal daimon, hear my suppliant voice, Give me in blameless plenty to rejoice;
And listen gracious to my mystic pray'r, Surrounded with thy choir of nurses fair.
Orphic Hymn to Dionysus Khthonios
Dionysos Khthonios, hear my pray’r, Awakened rise with nymphs of lovely hair: Great Amphietos Bakkhos, annual god, Who laid asleep in Persephone’s abode, Did’st lull to drowsy and oblivious rest, The rites triennial, and the sacred feast; Which rous’d again by thee, in graceful ring, Thy nurses round thee mystic anthems sing; When briskly dancing with rejoicing pow’rs, Thou move’st in concert with the circling hours. Come, blessed, fruitful, horned, and divine, And on these rites with joyful aspect shine. Accept the general incense and pray’r, And make prolific holy fruits thy care.
Orphic Hymn to Dionysos Lenaios
Hear me, Zeus’s son, blest Bacchus, god of wine, Born of two mothers, honor’d and divine, Lysian, Euion Bacchus, various-nam’d, Secret child of gods, holy, fam’d Fertile and nourishing, in whose liberal care Earth’s fruits increases, flourishing and fair; Sounding, magnanimous, Lenaean pow’r O various-form’d, medicinal, holy flow’r: Mortals in thee, repose from labour find, Delightful charm, desir’d by all mankind: Fair-hair’d Euion, Bromios, joyful God, Lysian, invested in the leafy rod. To these our rites, benignant pow’r incline, When fav’ring men, or when on Gods you shine; Be present to thy mystic’s suppliant pray’r, Rejoicing come, and fruits abundant bear.
Orphic Hymn to Triennial Dionysus
Bacchus frantic, many-nam’d, blest, divine, Bull-faced Lenaean, bearer of the vine, From fire descended, raging, Nysian king, From whom initial ceremonies spring: Liknitan Dionysos, pure and firey bright, Eubouleos, crown-bearer, wandering in the night: Pupil of Persephone, mysterious pow’r, Triple, ineffable, Zeus’ secret flow’r, Ericapaeus, first-begotten nam’d, Of Gods the father, and the child fam’d, Bearing a scepter, leader of the choir, Whose dancing feat, frantic Furies fire, When the triennial band thou dost inspire. Loud-sounding, Tages, of a firey light, Born of two mothers, Amphitios bright: Wand’ring on mountains, cloth’d with skins of deer, Apollo, golden-ray’d, whom all revere. God of the grape with leaves of ivy crown’d, Bassarian, lovely, virgin-like, renown’d, Come blessed pow’r, regard thy mystic’s voice, Propitious come, and in these rites rejoice.
Orphic Hymn to Dionysus Bassarius:
Come, blessed Dionysus, various nam’d, bull-faced, Begot from Thunder, Bacchus fam’d Bassarian God, of universal might, Whom swords and blood and sacred rage delight: In heav’n rejoicing, mad, loud-sounding God Furious inspirer, bearer of the Rod By Gods rever’d, who dwells’t with humankind, Propitious come, with much-rejoicing mind.
Orphic Hymn to Dionysus Liknitos:
Liknitan Dionysos, bearer of the vine, Thee I invoke to bless these rites divine: Florid and gay, of nymphs the blossom bright, And of fair Venus, goddess of delight, Tis thine mad footsteps with mad nymphs to beat Dancing thro’ groves with lightly leaping feet: From Zeus’ high counsels nursed by Proserpine And born the dread of all pow’rs divine: Come, blessed daimon, regard thy suppliant’s voice, Propitious come, and in these rites rejoice.
Orphic Hymn to Dionysus Perikionios:
Dionysos Perikionios, hear my pray’r, Who mad’st the house of Cadmus once thy care, With matchless force, his pillars twining round When burning thunders shook the solid ground In flaming, founding torrents borne along, Propt by thy grasp indissolubly strong. Come mighty Bacchus to these rites inclin’d, And bless thy suppliant with rejoicing mind.
Verses from the first Hymn to Dionysus in Euripedes’ Bacchae
O blessed is he who, happy in his heart, Knows the initiation rites of the gods, Purifies his life and Joins his soul to the cult, Dancing on the mountains, with holy purifications Celebrating the Bacchic rituals. O blessed the man who dutifully observes The mysteries of the Great Mother, Kybele. Swinging high the thyrsus And crowned with ivy He serves Dionysus. Onward you Bacchae, onward Bacchae, Escort the roaring Bromios home, A god an the son of a god! Escort him Down from the Phrygian mountains into Greece’s wide-wayed streets, Streets wide for dancing, Bromios the Roaring God! […] Sweet is the pleasure the god brings us in the mountains. when from the running revelers he falls to the ground clad in his sacred fawnskin. Hunting the blood of slaughtered goats for the joy of devouring raw flesh he rushes through the mountains of Lydia, of Phrygia. Hail to the Roaring God, Bromios our leader! Euoi! The ground flows with milk, Flows with wine, Flows with the nectar of bees. The Bacchic One, lifting high the bright-burning flame of the pine-torch, like the smoke of Syrian frankincense, springs up and rushes along with his thyrsus. Running and dancing he incites any wanderers, shakes them with shouts of joy tossing his luxuriant locks to the wind.
(Translation by Stephen Esposito)
Horace’s Hymn to Bacchus
Bacchus on the far-off rocky hills, teaching his chants – you who are still to come, believe me – I saw him and his student Nymphs and goat-footed Satyrs and their pointed ears.
Euhoë! – my soul trembles with that moment's fear, Bacchus possesses my breast and I madly rejoice. Euhoë!, spare me, god of freedom [Liber], spare me, god of the fearful thyrsus of power.
I must celebrate your inexhaustible revelers, and the fountains of wine and full rivers of milk, and mirror in song honey dripping from the hollows of trees;
I must celebrate your bride and her constellated crown, and Pentheus' palace shaken to bits in a mighty downfall, and the destruction of Lycurgus of Thrace.
You control the streams, the savage sea, you are hot with wine as on distant hilltops you bind Bistonian [Thracian] women's hair with a knot of vipers that do not harm them.
And when the rebellious army of giants tried to climb the heights to the Father's kingdom, you were the one who threw back Rhoetus and his terrible lion's claws and teeth;
Although you were said to be more suitable for dances and fun and games and were labeled unfit for a battle, yet you took your part in war as well as in peacetime.
You were graced with golden horn when Cerberus saw you: he was harmless, and softly wagged his tail, and as you were leaving, he licked your legs and feet with all three of his tongues.
(Translation by Joseph P. Clancy, University of Chicago Press, 1960)

They say your life flashes before your eyes as you die, that your dying mind and the wildly sparking neurons cause a flood of memories to overwhelm you as you pass from this life.
Etho remembers his battle with Joel; he remembers as the sanguine sorcerer hacked at his wooden shield with his axe, already stained with blood.
Etho remembers tossing the last shards of the shield aside, ducking under a swing from Joel's diamond sword and feeling it glance off of his right pauldron, and strengthening his grip on his own iron weapon.
He remembers flashes of the fight itself, scoring very few real hits that mattered, while Joel's blade sliced through his flesh with ease.
He remembers his best hit was one to Joel's offhand; slicing easily into the tricep muscle and bone, and the bloodlust that gnawed on the edges of his mind reeling in ecstasy at the animalistic scream of pain that it wrenched from his enemy's lips.
He remembers himself flagging, deep wounds on his limbs and neck and blood soaking his clothes.
He remembers this being the moment he knew he wasn't going to survive.
But if he was dying here, he wanted to at least try to bring the tyrant of magic mountain down with him.
Before then, Etho had been keeping the bloodlust at bay, he knew that letting it cloud his mind would be a death sentence, but if he was dying anyway, what did he have to lose?
Letting the fog cloud his vision, Etho regained his grip on his sword and let all his barriers drop; his own shadow swirled unnaturally at his feet, and he felt strength like he had never knows course through him.
With an inhuman roar, Etho surged forward, weapon moving at an impossible speed, and managed to push Joel back, and for the first time that day, Etho saw that Joel was afraid.
But it didn't last.
Joel quickly adjusted to the change of pace, beginning to parry every blow with little effort, until suddenly the world froze.
Etho looked down, and saw Joel's sword had slipped beneath his armour and embedded itself deep in his stomach.
The feeling of an icy blade deep in his warm insides was probably the worst thing he'd ever felt in his life; like the worst case of butterflies in the stomach mixed with the mother of all cramps, but it wasn't quite as bad as the smug smile on Joel's face.
"You failed him once again Etho, such a shame~"
Etho refused to give the bastard the dignity of a response; he just glared at him with eyes of pure blackness, and spat blood in his face, his expression one of boiling, seething hate.
"Tell your boyfriend I said hi."
There was a searing pain as Joel dragged his blade upwards, levering the chestplate upwards as it cut through his stomach like a hot knife through butter, and Etho felt his insides spilling from his body, and taking his soul with them.
There were no memories that flashed past his eyes, no bright light, no nothing; just the feeling of falling, and a gentle stop as his spirit left his body.
He got to his metaphysical feet, looking down at his body lying in a pool of gore, and Joel stepping over him like he wasn't even there.
"Fucking bastard," Etho spat. "and I was so close too, just a few left."
He didn't know where Grian was, or how many of the others were left, but he couldn't bring himself to follow Joel yet.
The Red's words echoed in his mind; Etho had failed him.
"You do know I never asked you to win for me, right?"
Etho spun around, his nonexistent heart soaring at the sound of the familiar voice
"BDUBS!" Etho's voice cracked on the edge of tears as the sight of a familiar mossy hoodie caught his vision.
"You cryin' over little old me?" Bdubs teased, stumbling backwards slightly as Etho's spectral form collided with his own, wrapping him in what was clearly a desperately needed embrace.
"No," Etho protested, crying. "No I'm not."
Bdubs chuckled softly, stroking Etho's hair. "You've been so strong for so many years my love; if ever there's been a time where you've deserved to cry, this is it."
For several minutes, the two stayed there in each others' arms; Bdubs just holding Etho and letting all those bottled emotions spill out.
Eventually, Etho's heaving shoulders calmed, and his tears began to slow. "I'm sorry I couldn't win for you Bdubs." He sniffed, "Fuck, I couldn't even avenge you."
Bdubs smiled kindly, "I mean, I didn't win for or avenge you either, so I'd say we're even. Now then, you wanna go watch Grian get his ass handed to him?"
Finally, Etho let out a wet laugh, wiping his tears. "Yeah, let's go."

Publication in Class A
1. Gnarled Oak of God! In thy branches is the lightning nested! Above thee hangs the Eyeless Hawk.
2. Thou art blasted and black! Supremely solitary in that heath of scrub.
3. Up! The Ruddy clouds hang over thee! It is the storm.
4. There is a flaming gash in the sky.
5. Up.
6. Thou art tossed about in the grip of the storm for an aeon and an aeon and an aeon. But thou givest not thy sap; thou fallest not.
7. Only in the end shalt thou give up thy sap when the great God F.I.A.T. is enthroned on the day of Be-With-Us.
8. For two things are done and a third thing is begun. Isis and Osiris are given over to incest and adultery. Horus leaps up thrice armed from the womb of his mother. Harpocrates his twin is hidden within him. SET is his holy covenant, that he shall display in the great day of M.A.A.T., that is being interpreted the Master of the Temple of A.'. A.'., whose name is Truth.
9. Now in this is the magical power known.
10. It is like the oak that hardens itself and bears up against the storm. It is weather-beaten and scarred and confident like a sea-captain.
11. Also it straineth like a hound in the leash.
12. It hath pride and great subtlety. Yea, and glee also!
13. Let the Magus act thus in his conjuration.
14. Let him sit and conjure; let him draw himself together in that forcefulness; let him rise next swollen and straining; let him dash back the hood from his head and fix his basilisk eye upon the sigil of the demon. Then let him sway the force of him to and fro like a satyr in silence, until the Word burst from his throat.
15. Then let him not fall exhausted, although the might have been ten thousandfold the human; but that which floodeth him is the infinite mercy of the Genitor-Genitrix of the Universe, whereof he is the Vessel.
16. Nor do thou deceive thyself. It is easy to tell the live force from the dead matter. It is no easier to tell the live snake from the dead snake.
17. Also concerning vows. Be obstinate, and be not obstinate. Understand that the yielding of the Yoni is one with the lengthening of the Lingam. Thou art both these; and thy vow is but the rustling of the wind on Mount Meru.
18. How shalt thou adore me who am the Eye and the Tooth, the Goat of the Spirit, the Lord of Creation. I am the Eye in the Triangle, the Silver Star that ye adore.
19. I am Baphomet, that is the Eightfold Word that shall be equilibrated with the Three.
20. There is no act or passion that shall not be an hymn in mine honour.
21. All holy things and all symbolic things shall be my sacraments.
22. These animals are sacred unto me; the goat, and the duck, and the ass, and the gazelle, the man, the woman and the child.
23. All corpses are sacred unto me; they shall not be touched save in mine eucharist. All lonely places are sacred unto me; where one man gathereth himself together in my name, there will I leap forth in the midst of him.
24. I am the hideous god, and who mastereth me is uglier than I.
25. Yet I give more than Bacchus and Apollo; my gifts exceed the olive and the horse.
26. Who worshippeth me must worship me with many rites.
27. I am concealed with all concealments; when the Most Holy Ancient One is stripped and driven through the market place, I am still secret and apart.
28. Whom I love I chastise with many rods.
29. All things are sacred to me; no thing is sacred from me.
30. For there is no holiness where I am not.
31. Fear not when I fall in the fury of the storm; for mine acorns are blown afar by the wind; and verily I shall rise again, and my children about me, so that we shall uplift our forest in Eternity.
32. Eternity is the storm that covereth me.
33. I am Existence, the Existence that existeth not save through its own Existence, that is beyond the Existence of Existences, and rooted deeper than the No-Thing-Tree in the Land of No-Thing.
34. Now therefore thou knowest when I am within Thee, when my hood is spread over thy skull, when my might is more than the penned Indus, and resistless as the Giant Glacier.
35. For as thou art before a lewd woman in Thy nakedness in the bazaar, sucked up by her slyness and smiles, so art thou wholly and no more in part before the symbol of the beloved, though it be but a Pisacha or a Yantra or a Deva.
36. And in all shalt thou create the Infinite Bliss and the next link of the Infinite Chain.
37. This chain reaches from Eternity to Eternity, ever in triangles --- is not my symbol a triangle? --- ever in circles --- is not the symbol of the Beloved a circle? Therein is all progress base illusion, for every circle is alike and every triangle alike!
38. But the progress is progress, and progress is rapture, constant, dazzling, showers of light, waves of dew, flames of the hair of the Great Goddess, flowers of the roses that are about her neck, Amen!
39. Therefore lift up thyself as I am lifted up. Hold thyself in as I am master to accomplish. At the end, be the end far distant as the stars that lie in the navel of Nuit, do thou slay thyself as I at the end am slain, in the death that is life, in the peace that is mother of war, in the darkness that holds light in his hand, as an harlot that plucks a jewel from her nostrils.
40. So therefore the beginning is delight, and the end is delight, and delight is in the midst, even as the Indus is water in the cavern of the glacier, and water among the greater hills and the lesser hills and through the ramparts of the hills and through the plains, and water at the mouth thereof when it leaps forth into the mighty sea, yea, into the mighty sea.
(The Interpretation of this Book will be given to members of the Grade of Dominus Liminis on application, each to his Adeptus.)
Love is the law, love under will.
