The Princess of Wales wore Queen Elizabeth II’s Pearl Leaf Earrings for the first time for a ceremony at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.
Tumblr media
The earrings match the Pearl & Diamond Leaf Brooch that the Princess of Wales has been wearing since 2017 usually at similar remembrance type events. The earrings are new to me but CoutureRoyals on Twitter found a picture of the late Queen wearing them.
Tumblr media
It’s possible that they are two of the leaves from the brooch set as earrings. We’ll have to wait and see if they are ever worn at the same time.

While there isn't much information about the origins of these diamond and pearl leaf earrings, the The Court Jeweller speculates they're part of the same collection that includes Queen Elizabeth's Diamond and Pearl Leaf Brooch.

The diamond and pearl leaf earrings
Tumblr media
On Remembrance Sunday, Kate debuted a pair of diamond and pearl leaf earrings that were previously seen on the Queen during a visit to Nigeria back in 2003. Some experts believe that the earrings may have been detachable pieces from the brooch featuring the same design.

11 Meaningful Pieces In Catherine’s Jewellery Collection That Belonged To Queen Elizabeth II
By Emily Chan
6 December 2023
Tumblr media
First worn by the Princess of Wales in June at the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Princess Rajwa Al Saif in Amman, Jordan, the Greville chandelier earrings were seen on Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign.
The dazzling diamond earrings made by Cartier were a wedding gift to Her late Majesty from her parents – the Queen Mother had inherited them from Dame Margaret Helen Greville, a British socialite, in 1918.
Catherine was most recently seen wearing the jewels at a Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace.

On Remembrance Sunday this year, Catherine debuted a pair of diamond and pearl leaf earrings that were previously seen on the Queen during a visit to Nigeria back in 2003.
Some experts believe that the earrings may have been detachable pieces from the brooch featuring the same design.

Commissioned by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II’s Festoon necklace features 105 loose diamonds that her father inherited when he ascended the throne.
Featuring three strands, the monarch wore the piece on numerous occasions throughout her life, from attending state banquets to posing for official portraits.
The Princess of Wales paid tribute to Her late Majesty by wearing the piece for the official Coronation photograph when King Charles III officially assumed the throne on 6 May.
Tumblr media
The Princess of Wales wore Queen Elizabeth II’s three-strand pearl necklace – an item Her Majesty was famous for – during a Buckingham Palace lunch for the governors-general of the Commonwealth nations prior to the monarch’s funeral in September 2022.
Tumblr media
The then Princess Elizabeth received this jaw-dropping diamond necklace by Cartier from the Nizam of Hyderabad as a wedding gift in 1947.
Featuring a rose motif, the royal picked the necklace herself, along with a matching floral tiara.
The Princess of Wales first wore the statement piece at a gala for the National Portrait Gallery in 2014, before rewearing it at a Buckingham Palace reception for the Diplomatic Corps in 2019.
Tumblr media
Queen Elizabeth II was first photographed wearing these diamond and pearl earrings during her Silver Jubilee celebrations – marking 25 years on the throne – in 1977.
Catherine has sported the earrings a number of times in the past, including after Prince Louis’ birth in 2018 and while visiting Commonwealth troops ahead of the Queen’s funeral.
Tumblr media
Queen Elizabeth II commissioned royal jeweller Garrard to create this four-strand pearl and diamond choker, using pearls sourced from Japan in the early 1980s.
Princess Diana was loaned the piece for a state banquet in honour of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 1982, while the current Princess of Wales has worn the necklace on several occasions, including for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary in 2017 and Her Majesty’s funeral in 2022.
Tumblr media
The Princess of Wales debuted Queen Elizabeth II’s emerald and diamond earrings during an evening reception in Jamaica in 2022, along with a matching bracelet.
Both pieces are from Her late Majesty’s emerald tassel suite, which the monarch first wore at a state dinner held for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates at London’s Claridge’s Hotel in 1989.
Tumblr media
First worn by Queen Elizabeth II during the 1990s, the Princess of Wales has borrowed Her late Majesty’s diamond and pearl leaf brooch a number of times over the years, including on a visit commemorating the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium in 2017.
Catherine wore the piece in tribute to the monarch while attending her funeral procession at Westminster Hall in September 2022.
Tumblr media
The sapphire and diamond earrings
The Princess of Wales borrowed Queen Elizabeth’s sapphire and diamond earrings for a visit to Edinburgh in 2021.
The sapphire earrings are part of a suite of sapphire and diamond jewellery by Asprey, which Her late Majesty added to her collection during the late 1970s.
The Bahrain pearl drop earrings
Featuring two pearls gifted to Her late Majesty by the Hakim of Bahrain as a wedding present, these diamond and pearl drop earrings were also worn by Princess Diana in the 1980s.
The Princess of Wales was first spotted wearing the earrings at a Remembrance Day service in 2016, before going on to wear them for Trooping the Colour in 2019 and Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

1927 Dress, slip and cape which belonged to Marjorie Merriweather Post. The dress is of sheer green silk chiffon with narrow shoulder straps and a flared skirt. Decorative mistletoe motifs of bugle beads, clear stones and pearls adorn the neckline, left hip and skirt. The skirt is comprised of twelve triangular shaped panels decoratively stitched in a “lettuce leaf” design with a scalloped lower edge. Sakura was sitting in the parlor alone, staring at the jewels spread out before him. It was the most difficult decision of his life thus far. Everything he felt rode on this. Not because anything of substance hung in the balance, but his heart was doing flips and his stomach was in knots.
One was a beautiful brooch, a dandelion of diamonds and gold with the golden pearl nestled along the stem. When he saw it, he thought of Dante, of how they may not see each other often...with the need to make sure his own country is taken care of, but just as dandelion puffs drift in the wind, the red string that ties them together will stretch as long as it needs.
And then the second he pulled was a pair of earrings, a diamond leaf holding onto the golden pearls, and he thought of Bael, of how wonderful they would look dangling from his ears. He thought of the woodwork he'd done and how nimble and agile he was...
He thought of them both and his heart seemed to swell in his chest. And ache as well. He was nervous, despite everything that Ashi had told him... And yet if not for the serval, he would never have gotten this far, still stuck between brothers who both tangled him up in red string.
But he had made his decision now, and with what he was doing surely rumor was spreading in the castle that the princess had finally chosen a prince... he could only imagine everyone's faces when there were two pearls given.

Asking Simblr: What's your tiara lore?
Tumblr media
King Louis V owns a slew of jewels. Some as a monarch and some as a private individual. This royal collection, which can be traced back to the early 18th century, has always been vague and does not consist of the crown jewels or state regalia. Many of these jewels were acquired through purchases and gifts. However, many originated outside of the country and were brought to Sunderland during times of international conflicts, mainly the American Civil War, both world wars, and the Russian Revolution.
The collection is estimated to include hundreds of items, including 30 tiaras, 51 necklaces, 42 bracelets, 35 pairs of earrings, 18 rings, and an undisclosed amount of brooches, pendants, and watches. This current collection is managed by Lady Astrid Marie Mogh, RGO, who is the official Adviser and Curator to Their Majesties the King and Queen. Some specific tiaras within this collection are as follows:
Queen Anne's Fleur-de-lis tiara: This tiara was made for Queen Anne by Sunderland-based jeweller Addington & Co. the year after her husband ascended the throne. It is an enormous tiara set with spiralling diamonds. The ailing Anne lent the tiara to her daughter-in-law Katherine who wore it throughout her life. In turn, the tiara was lent to Tatiana, Princess of Danforth for long-term use following Katherine's death.
The Sunningdale Tiara: Another tiara made for Queen Anne in the 1930s. Named after the peerage of Anne's aristocratic parents, the tiara was made with the diamonds given by her parents on her wedding day in 1913. It was highly associated with Anne throughout her life and was worn by both Queen Irene and Princess Jaqueline on their wedding days. It has been lambasted by critics as an "ugly spiked tiara".
Grand Duchess Anastasia Tiara: This diamond and pearl tiara was inherited by Grand Duchess Anastasia, sister of King Nicholas, from their mother Queen Alexandra, a member of the Russian Imperial family. During the Russian Revolution and after Anastasia's 1919 murder, the tiara and many other jewels belonging to the Grand Duchess were smuggled back to Sunderland. The tiara has since been worn by Queen Irene on several occasions.
Strawberry Leaf Tiara: This tiara also has some history attached to it. It was commissioned and designed by King James in 1857 as a gift to his daughter-in-law, the controversial future Queen Rosalyn. Rosalyn, who came from an extremely wealthy American family, was a controversial royal bride due to her upbringing in the Antebellum South. During the American Civil War, she quickly became despised in pro-Unionist Sunderland. After the early death of her husband, King Louis IV, Roslyn lived a secluded life. The Strawberry Leaf tiara re-emerged in the public eye when it was worn by Queen Irene in the 90s, decades after Roslyn's death. Still, the tiara has some uncomfortable baggage attached to it and there was some outcry when Courtney, Duchess of Woodbine wore it on her wedding day.
Floral Wreath Tiara: This is a modern tiara, one of several designed by Cartier for Queen Katherine in the 1950s and 60s. It's a pretty versatile tiara which can be set with emeralds, pearls, or aquamarine. In 1993, it was worn by Princess Jaqueline for a formal portrait to mark her 18th birthday, a rare example of a non-married lady wearing a tiara.

Enamel and diamond maple leaf brooch
Tumblr media
In 1901, King George and Queen Mary embarked on a lengthy tour of Canada and while in Montreal she was presented with this beautiful enamel and diamond maple leaf brooch.
A book published to commemorate the tour records, “Shortly atter dinner on Wednesday, a simple ceremony took place at Lord Strathcona’s residence, being the presentation to Their Royal Highnesses of mementos of their visit to Montreal by the members of the Citizen’s Reception Committee. That to the Duchess which was presented by Lady Strathcona and Mrs. Drummond, consisted of a spray of maple leaves wrought in gold and enamel and set with diamonds and pearls.
A newspaper of the time reported, “The jewel consists of a spray of six maple leaves mounted with diamonds. No two of the maple leaves are alike in form and colour. They are of solid eighteen-carat gold, beautifully enameled in delightfully delicate tones.”
Queen Elizabeth II inherited the brooch from Queen Mary but only wore it publicly twice, both during a visit to Canada in 2010. It has presumably since been inherited by King Charles III.
