Thinking about why Kishibe and Yoshida Hirofumi is likely to be blood related (father-son) and not just senior/junior because of these small interractions.

I don't think Captain "I am the best devil hunterᕦ⁠(⁠ ⁠⊡⁠ ⁠益⁠ ⁠⊡⁠ ⁠)⁠ᕤ" Kishibe would let a random emokid1125 he met in a high-risk mission to basically call him an "old boomer" even as a joke.

I'm certain there's familiarity between them.

That's why Kishibe is sure about Yoshida's ability and competence when it comes to devil hunting, to have the potential to be better than him. Even though this comment also can be seen as chit-chat convos between them to make the situation more relaxed.

(Let's be real the entire casts have been through a lot in this arc in the span of like 4 hours—I also like the interpretation of this scene to be played as distraction for Yoshida because he need to kill a lot of "doll people" in the background to prevent more people turning into another dolls—IMO his character is actually kind of altruistic like Kishibe but it's a topic for another discussion).

That's why they talk more "casually" when there's only them two. They have so much trust in each other to talk about their distrust towards Makima and do commentary to the whole chaotic situations. Octopus Devil also seems okay with Kishibe and that's why it let him sit down on top of it just like Yoshida.

That kind of interractions doesn't make sense if it's truly the first time they met each other. Especially for the latter reasonings.

Because Yoshida start his Devil Hunter carrier as private Devil Hunter, he join Public Safety later on after International Assassin Arc and before part 2. Meanwhile Kishibe is from Public Safety since the start, and one of his job is to train PS's new recruits.

Public Safety and Private DH is a different work environment. It makes no sense for Kishibe to spend time with this random private devil hunter if not because they're already related in some way.

I'm in the process of rereading OOtP and gods, I forgot how <i>funny</i> it is. I mean, sure, the book is really dark and full of emotions, but despite that there is still so much humour(just like the other 6, but here I feel like it's much more needed given all the darkness-and speaking of that, honestly I think it's the darkest in the series, I know people often say DH is the darkest, but tbh I'd say OOtP is darker but that's a story for another day lol)

Also I'd say it's the best in the series, although my personal favourite is HBP.

I agree with your analysis, DH is dark but it ends on a high note and is pretty action packed, and has a general feeling of being a spiritual journey against a specific enemy who represents "evil"; meanwhile the despair in OotP feels much more real and raw, all-encompassing and harder to beat because it's a fight against the stupidity and casual cruelty of ordinary people who refuse to listen to what Harry's saying because it's uncomfortable, despite all he's done to prove himself (saving the school like three times at this point!!). And what Harry gains - people finally accepting that Voldemort is back and he's not a compulsive liar - pales in comparaison to what he's lost to get there. Plus the fact that Harry's still a kid and he's so insecure and guilt-ridden by the end, whereas Harry in DH feels like a near-adult who has a lot more confidence.

Which means, yeah, the humour is especially sharp in OotP because it comes a lot from the narration or characters themselves highlighting how ineffectual the Ministry is acting. Like, Fudge being utterly convinced that Dumbledore is out to get his job - infuriating, but also pretty funny! Similarly, the extremes to which Umbridge is willing to go to in order to stop the DA makes her look completely insane. And how the whole school (including maybe the building?) basically becomes The Résistance™ via quiet support or malicious compliance.

Then there are all the characters who have a more detached or pragmatic approach to the situation and bring a bit of levity to it, like Mundingus, or Phineas. Or the weird allyships of circumstances. I love the moment where Hermione asks Harry to meet her with Skeeter and Luna and he's like "what the hell is going on right now??" (I think Hermione's insanity ramping up in OotP deserves its own post tbh she's absolutely hilarious and brillant in this one.)

what do you think of the way that JKR wrote gender in general in her books (especially the discourse floating around about how she supposedly thinks feminine = bad? people usually cite fleur, umbridge, lavender and parvati for this for some reason).

Interesting question... first of all I will state that I think JKR is a writer who was pretty aware of gender at the time of writing HP. I think she's stated numerous times that Hermione is a reflection of herself when she was younger, and to me objectively Hermione is a great female character-- she's more intelligent and more powerful than her male peers, but is also realistically flawed. Others may differ in this, but to me Hermione as a character feels VERY realistic and very well constructed. Honestly, just being objective but I think JKR's main strength as a writer lies in her character work because all of her characters, no matter how minor, seem so solid.

Let me make it clear that I'm just speaking to the strengths of HP as a series and not JKR personally because lol, but personally I never got the sense that Fleur, Lavender, and Parvati were supposed to be viewed negatively. I think Parvati and Lavender were just meant to be classmates that Harry didn't really understand mostly because he is a boy, but overall good people. Both of them are part of the DA and both participate in the Battle of Hogwarts. Lavender is portrayed as extremely annoying to the trio during HBP but then dies for their cause in DH, and ultimately this is more important. Harry isn't meant to be a perfect narrator, he very much views people through the lens of a teenage boy, but overall has a positive opinion of, particularly Parvati, but also Lavender. That Harry, a teenage boy, wouldn't bond as much with Parvati and Lavender as he would Seamus and Dean is pretty normal imo. I don't think it's an indictment on the fact that they're more feminine than Hermione.

As for Fleur-- personally I don't love the fact that she came last in the Triwizard Tournament and later became basically a housewife, I will say that. (also I hate the phonetic French accent and refuse to replicate it.) I think there are a few moments where Fleur's strength, talent, and bravery come through, personally I love her as a character and again I don't think she was supposed to be viewed negatively (nor do I think that Harry ever viewed her negatively.) While, yes it is a little catty for Hermione, Molly, and Ginny to hate her I also think it's pretty realistic tbh. Molly is proved wrong about Fleur pretty spectacularly at the end of HBP and Harry defends her against Ginny and Hermione's criticism.

I do think there's an element of JKR projecting her own insecurities onto these characters, in that she identifies much more with a Hermione than with a Fleur. But that's not necessarily a criticism of feminine women as a whole, because I think overall these three characters are meant to be viewed positively. And Hermione isn't not feminine, even though she perhaps isn't as stereotypically feminine as Fleur or Lavender.

Onto Umbridge-- JKR has stated that she based Umbridge on, I believe, two people that she'd encountered in real life. I'm not sure it's much deeper than that, and there's no denying that the juxtaposition between Umbridge's sickly sweet twee-ness and her awful, violent personality isn't incredibly effective. Like I'd be hard pressed to think of a more hateable character in literature right now. Personally I think that juxtaposition that makes Umbridge so detestable was more the intention, rather than an indictment on femininity in general.

Idk though, maybe others have more thoughts on this!

I think I finally have my med schedule figured out, and how to make it last all day.

I mean, I think there is a legitimate argument to Snape’s love for Lily verging on obsession (and I say this as a someone who loves Snape lol)... like yeah, it's actually kind of surprising that he "did everything in her name," he devoted his entire life to honoring her memory, and yet he still couldn't find it within himself to be nice to her son lmao. And JKR's descriptions of Snape, especially as a child in the flashback scenes with Lily, do nothing to dispel any sort of creepy or obsessive interpretation of his relationship to her (and at worst, hint at a sense of entitlement over her):

Maybe the real debate should be about whether its possible to determine the line between love and obsession, or whether doing the right thing (saving everyone's lives, basically) for the wrong reason (still obsessed with the girl who rejected you as a teenager) is enough to redeem someone...

I kinda feel bad for Vanilla, paranoid or not, she does seem to have a point. If you aren't a DH or DH family member, even if you try to nvr interact with them, you basically can get murdered at any time if either someone wants you dead enough, or if yer too close to another deal somehow and get taken as payment. Even if those things are rarer, it still is incredibly terrifying to basically be at the mercy of a legalized gang. This is a very American perspective, tbh, but they seem to function as a extension of the police, without the obfuscation about what they are allowed to do to you. Not that I think you are trying to portray the DHs as the good guys, but I feel like Vanilla, while wrong about Alrick having a hit on her, is correct on her views about DHs and what she said to Pearl. It would be cool to see more of her side of things.

Yes, I'm happy you picked that up :3 While I can't -and probably wouldn't even want to - show anything extreme like plain gore and tortures taking places because there's always a risk the comic gets taken down as "inappropriate" (which absolutely SUCKS as it limits the artistic expression but whatever. Why it is like dealing with mafia, even when things are regulated and supervised*. Why Death-Heads do charity to polish their reputation. Why, if you especially are meddling with things which can't handle the daylight, you should be really concerned that your business partner(s) will send a Death-Head after you.

iwasaki-san charted fur coat so high because, in true sasara fashion, took an innocuous comment that kawanishi-san said about sasara’s suit to make a joke using an obscure ref that ONLY kawanishi-san understood lol and had kawanishi-san silent wheezing for a good minute 

‘former delinquent’ and ‘trauma’ were pulled together next and given a 2 and 5 respectively, sasara used to follow samatoki around in their mcd days and trauma comes from the damage sasara took when rosho broke up with him

lol and for ‘art of conversation’ iwasaki-san starts to chart it off the charts, but kawanishi-san without even directly looking at him, tells him, “don’t you draw that line over the parameter” LOL and kuroda-san cheekily adds to ‘make sure you follow the rules~” and the face iwasaki-san made when he realised his joke had been found out LOL so he brought that point down to earth

so kawanishi-san’s first pull was ‘liar’ and ‘stage fright’ and this is very important as to why rosho’s liar trait is so high

kawanishi-san tried to say, in the most convoluted manner i have ever seen, that rosho has nothing to be afraid of lmao

‘straightman’ and ‘gaudy taste’ were pulled next. a straightman (tsukkomi) is the assigned role in mankai skits to be reactionary to the stupid jokes (boke) that their partner tells which is definitely why rosho’s is so high lol

as for ‘gaudy taste,’ rosho wore gaudy suits in his comedy days like sasara but that’s not his sense of fashion. however, his thug wear was still kinda 😬 hence the 3 lol

similar to how we found out how many bad jokes sasara has told in his songs, there was also a spotlight on rosho’s brand of very difficult and hard to understand humor, so while that may be the case for rosho, he still very much so is corny so it averaged out lol

lol kuroda-san pulled ‘quitting smoking’ and ‘serious’ for his, a sasara trait and a rosho one

iwasaki-san asks kuroda-san how many cigarettes does he think rei smokes in a day and kuroda-san answered, ‘a pack a day’ and abema helpfully supplied that’s 10 cigarettes a day LOL hence the fat 0

for ‘serious,’ kuroda-san had initially gave a ‘5′ for, saying that rei is slippery and sus but he’s still a pretty serious guy. iawasaki-san then says, ‘so the he’s actually around a three for that huh??’ and kuroda-san was like he’s right and changed it lol

it’s unpictured but all of them actually screwed up their charts lol and kuroda-san accidently flipped the numbers. in his haste to fix it, he fumbled and dropped his chart and then blamed it all on kawanishi-san, who messed up his chart before him LOL

So the entire au is pretty much set in the DH world and im ashamed to say ive invested too much brain power to it.

But the way it comes about is Skully and Zazu are kind of a thing and just starting to come into their feelings and one day Skully buys them a pair of matching braclets he finds. He thinks its a totally normal present to get your platonic?/romantic??? pal, bud, cherished person, guy you hang out with a lot.

Until Timon tells him its pretty much a friendship braclet and actually really dumb. So Skully gets all self conscious and tries to take it back but Zazu lets him know he actually likes it and is still wearing it. They have a heart to heart and that triggers the braclets and makes them fuse for the first time.

yeah so its totally ripping off the relationship parallels in SU but in this the jewelry is whats needed for it to work. Where they came from is a mystery but something something legends say they contain bits of the gods powers in the jewels and the gods gifted them to their followers so that they could use them in times of need. They need more than 1 person to work cause no single person could handle that power.

So thats why i reason all the fusions designs look like gods or famous mythical figures. But really i just think its cool to make things reference something else.

But anyway. They fuse and freak a little but as soon as they figure out they can fly theyre all "Lets just keep this between us."

Then Monsters start showing up cause they have to fight something lol and more jewelry pops up and more friends fuse.

For your question, they dont fuse often at first, only occasionally in the dead of night so that people won't freak out about the giant bird man spotted in the woods. Until one day students spot him and confront him about it. After the first monster fight they're crazy about him and through the students the othwr teachers find out and are put in fusion related situations cause they either borrow the bird's braclets or find their own. But otherwise, no one fuses unless its an emergency. Zazu and Skully eventually do it anytime they want tho cause they like it so much

I have a Mulan and Peter fusion based on Sun Wukong and a Peacock and Sarabi fusion based on Anansi i need to draw but basically the more they fuse, the more powerful and self aware Peacock gets until hes basically his own person coming into Zazu and Skullys dreams telling them about the impending world destruction unless they fix it lol

sweet anon!! thank you so much for reading and yaaay for the Feelings TM :) honestly, i’ve always loved Ron as a character. he feels so real to me, flawed but in a way that’s consistent with his strengths. it’s more my feelings on Ron & Hermione’s relationship that have changed over the years.

i had this debate with somebody a few years ago about the way Ron is portrayed in Goblet of Fire, and how that plays into many readers’ negative feelings surrounding Ron/Hermione ... idk, though. some of it i stand by, but since then, i’ve realized that i would have been perfectly, 100% happy with Ron and Hermione getting together if Ron hadn’t been so short-changed by the major plot beats of Deathly Hallows. i’ve started to feel that DH does a real disservice to the Ron of books 1-6.

first off, it seems so ridiculous that Ron would be the grouchiest one while Horcrux hunting, JKR claiming he’s used to a comfortable life at home?? Ron grew up in extreme poverty! His parents’ bank account in Chamber of Secrets is virtually empty!! With seven children, one underpaid working parent, and a family culture that refuses to accept help, I find it really hard to believe that the Weasleys didn’t struggle with food insecurity at some point in Ron’s life.

tbh, if anyone should have been the grouchiest during camping, it should’ve been hermione, lol. when has she ever handled stress particularly well? she’s gotten snappish during exam seasons dating back to the first book.

honestly, the way Ron’s prodigal subplot plays out in DH is, imo, the reason that many people leave the series dissatisfied that he and Hermione get together. We see a Horcrux-brainwashed Ron who’s uncharacteristically resentful and snide, then totally absent, and then, because Hermione is so furious with Ron when he returns, he spends part of the book forced into the role of a hen-pecked husband type, steeping in Hermione’s stony silence or making desperate attempts to placate her. When I was a kid, I read all this and got really annoyed with both Ron and Hermione. Now I’m just annoyed with the way it was written.

Like, okay. I understand that JKR wanted to address, once and for all, Ron’s insecurities. Fair. And the forest scene where Ron saves Harry, then destroys Slytherin’s locket, is a good one: it both unveils Ron’s Harry/Hermione worries and offers Ron an act of heroism. That’s clearly what JKR was going for with this snippet of conversation:

‘You've sort of made up for it tonight,' said Harry. 'Getting the sword. Finishing off the Horcrux. Saving my life.'

'That makes me sound a lot cooler than I was,' Ron mumbled.

'Stuff like that always sounds cooler than it really was,' said Harry. 'I've been trying to tell you that for years.'

But this is basically it for the peak of Ron’s arc in the book, and I don’t think it goes far enough. I don’t think Ron needed to save Harry, to get reassurances from Harry, because that still fundamentally revolves around Harry. I think Ron needed to blossom out in a different, complementary direction—to develop the strength that we saw all the way back in Philosopher’s Stone: Ron is a strategist, and this is a war. I mean, come on. Chess is a war game!!!! lol

Imo, for the final book, Ron really deserved a sequence of leadership, designed, planned, and executed in his own way. (Maybe he could have designed the Gringotts or Ministry break-in?) Sure, JKR dropped the ball in books 2-6 developing his strategic strengths, but she still could have drawn on Ron’s groundedness, his deep knowledge of the Wizarding World, and his clear-eyed loyalty as a basis for him being the strategist of the group. She could have claimed that in Harry’s absence from the Quidditch team in HBP, Ron had continued to develop his strategic skills as a team leader.

Either way, Ron certainly shouldn’t have been detoured at Shell Cottage for months (!) because of bad luck with the Snatchers. I really feel he should have been undertaking something independent, ultimately proving to himself that he’s his own person outside the frame of Harry’s reference. Then, in service of the Ron/Hermione relationship, we could have seen Hermione’s admiration for Ron’s abilities and achievements in the way that Ron admires hers, which is especially necessary because neither Hermione nor the reader got to see Ron’s big Quidditch win in OotP..... aaaaaa

anyway, given all these feelings, you can see why i did what i did with the fic. i really feel that ron was short-changed at the last second instead of being able to display all the ways that he’s grown over the series (getting over his Harry-as-Champion complex in GoF, turning from self-hating Quidditch failure to triumphant Keeper in both OotP and HBP). but that’s life!!!

Hey, i agree! it's not really a matter of chemistry (i mean we're talking about paper-made characters not real people lol), it's that narratively they're just more entertaining – my opinion ofc, other people may feel different and prefer a more casual vibe. To be fair, Harry and Ginny have some drama, but the drama is very adolescent and comical and mostly contained in HBP ("oh no, she's already with another guy who is objectively quite cool!"). And then in DH they have to split up for "it's not you, it's my enemy" reasons and Ginny's reaction to that is basically the opposite of drama, she takes it stoically. With Ron and Hermione the tension is in the clash of personalities and how they learn to get over themselves to become better partners, some aspects of that are very adolescent but others are universal and can appeal to adults. And since it's a subplot that happens off Harry's perspective as much as in, it doesn't take over the whole story, which makes it more digestible for people who don't like too much romance in their non-Romance genre books.

I feel like jk Rowling could not decide how to make Ron his characterization is so different in each book

Ahhh shittttt ok I did notice this too. But too be fair not EVERY book.

Book one he’s a pretty bad arse loyal friend- he’s pretty intelligent and like quick on stuff. I think she used him for like explaining a lot of magical things and then she was like shit I’m making him too smart.

Book two he’s very heroic and daring and like drives the flying car to save Harry and has a broken wand still doing shit and that’s why he was basically everyone’s favourite character when the first two books were released. Hermione wasn’t popular at all- I think JK Rowling wanted her to be more appreciated so that’s why ....

In book three we see Hermione doing the stuff with the time turner so she can have her moment. Because she really hasn’t had too many isolating moments. Like we know she’s smart but in book 2 she’s petrified and in book 1 she helps just like Ron does. In book 2 Ron has freed Harry, faced the forbidden Forrest, and has gone to the chamber of secrets with Harry. Yes Hermione gives the clues but we don’t see her personality in all of this, just validating that she’s sort of there to be like the brains. So she finally gets to have her heroic moment- this means that Ron can’t really have his own heroic moment because well- people need to start liking Hermione.

Book four now out and the movies are now out- Steve kloves is whispering in her ear. Harry needs to be the hero at some point in his own series- so this book becomes Harry central. Hermione and Ron have had their moments, Harry needs his moment without them- because it’s starting to look like the protagonist is useless without his friends. So we get GOF. I see the difference in Ron’s character here- as well as hermiones. I think this was a way for JKR to revalue Harry as the protagonist because let’s be real when you ask someone who their favourite character is in HP how many times do you hear Harry.

Come OOTP and we see Ron kind of becoming like talked down about more. Which makes me sad. Starts of with kind of making fun of Ron like omg how could he be prefect. But if we go to book one Ron I feel like that would be weird to question why he’d be prefect. And then come quidditch, giving him a reason to made fun of more. But then he shows out with the gang and helps Harry. This way everyone is shown to be vital and Harry still gets his moment.

HBP Ron was the most different from all the books in my opinion. We see him acting so like... jockey? He’s always been brave but idk the stuff with fleur and then how he’s annoyed with lavender. He becomes very like stereotypical teen boy in this book idk if this was JKRs way of explaining the age group but I feel a different vibe from him in this book. All the way from the beginning. He still has some great moments because honestly you cannot take the greatness Ron Weasley it’s just too challenging. She made him too great of a character lol.

DH Ron was like this weird JUMP. It’s like hbp ron was never a thing and she just made PS Ron mature. He’s like mature and serious and caring and that’s the Ron I know he’s capable of being so idk what happened in HBP but I know that he gave off a different vibe. But yeah we see a very likeable Ron to the point where it’s like yeah I should make Ron leave or something... because now he’s a romantic too? Like the other characters need a chance. So yeah, I kind of see what you mean.

I still love all Ron’s ;)
