This whole idea of survival in the wild, we’re told, is actually more about a mindset than anything else. How your mind responds to this type of environment can make the difference as to whether or not you’re walking out, or airlifted out via paratroopers and a stretcher. So should you ever find yourself being dropped ‘Bear Gyrlls-style’ into the middle of the Sahara desert, then you’ll know it’s time to kick it into US Special Forces mode.

A key component to mental stability in this type of scenario is having light - to make a fire. Aside from the obvious benefits, a fire is also vital in terms of keeping you sane. It triggers an automatic comfort button in your brain which helps to keep calm and lessens your chances of completely losing it.

Why is this exactly? The essence of light and how it has effected us all, is a vast complexity of science, history, nature, evolution, innovation and time. For millions of years, we have pondered the nature of light - where it comes from, where it begins, how to capture it, how to store it - Even Benjamin Franklin, who invented his own make-shift light bulbs, continuously pondered the relationship between time, light and our ability to control it. In all actuality, light is an essential source of energy. It is the beginning of life itself. Just like breathing, it is a natural, but imperative function in how we operate.

What you’re looking at here is Time - A single presentation of light displayed through 80,000 orbiting plates suspended in mid air. It’s an installation designed by DGT architect, Tsuyoshi Tane, who collaborated with Citizen to portray the energy-continuum in the relationship between time and light, it’s natural properties, and the impact it has created on the history of our lives, our minds and life as we know it today.

Captured in one enclosed space is both single and every moment of time that has ever existed, or will ever be created. It’s absolutely stunning.
