Oooh ok let's get going. Ed and Stede are both very long and the others are rather short.

Ed- ok so I think Ed is definitely maxed out in both intelligence and wisdom. I think he's actually got a surprisingly low charisma. He just has expertise in intimidation and proficiency in deception and maybe persuasion. But more likely his player is looking at that persuasion skill and asking can I make an intimidation check instead.

Now if I was playing a d&d game and the assignment was play Ed in d&d I would give him a high charisma because I would stat him out as a lurker of the deep warlock BUT I think in canon where they're all rogues and fighters his charisma is ass.

Stede- Stede's difficult to stat out. I think most of his stats are probably pretty bad but he has the lucky feat. And some other means of making sure he roles well. He's not dexterous, I'm not sure on his strength, his constitution seems middling, his charisma is hard to pin down because everyone initially hates him (implies low) but he frequently wins people over with the power of friendship (implies high) but I'm leaning towards low on charisma because the winning people over is through persistent whimsy rather than true people skills. They become begrudgingly fond of him because he's impossible to get rid of rather than because he's charming is what I'm saying. He's a good problem solved he thinks on his feet and he's got a good insight which makes me think high wis but also every survival check he makes fails in comical ways so maybe this is another situation of his proficiencies tricking me into thinking he's got a higher wis than he does. The one thing he does have going for him is that he's pretty book smart so I have to go with int by process of elimination, but again, maybe strength, that's kinda the dark horse stat for him he doesn't show it but he doesn't fail any strength rolls either. He knocked a guy out with a punch tho so maybe strength. But his defining trait is problem solving so maybe wis? Idk. Not Con Cha or Dex tho those ones are definitely negative modifiers. If I had to guess middling wis, middling but slightly higher int, most of his proficiencies are in int and Wis skills, medium to high strength but he never uses it.

Jim- Dex. I will not elaborate.

Olu- I generally see Olu as the Jack of all trades build. He's a well rounded individual. None of his stats are all that exceptional but he's good to have around because he's got no negative numbers, and can do it all if push comes to shove.

Lucius- Charisma. He's an artist and his most used non-technical skill is being good with people.

Zheng- Charisma. I feel like this doesn't need any explanation.

Archie- fighting your way out of a snake takes grit, not being digested, and quite a few successful checks to not pass out while holding your breath. Constitution.

Frenchie- Frenchie is very cerebral, but not very book smart. That being said artificers are intelligence casters so I'm going with INT.

Pete- strength or con. He's a silly little guy but his mental stats aren't great and he's not giving me dex vibes either. Human fighter build.

Fang- Strength. See him breaking a guy over his leg and him holding onto the side of the ship with the goat in hand for an hour at least so Ned Low wouldn't find them.

Roach- survival and medicine are both Wis skills and historically my DMs have made players role wisdom for cooking checks.

Wee John- Strength but Charisma is definitely second.

Buttons- Druids are Wis casters.

Swede- drank poison. Lived. Con.

Ivan- he wields an Axe which is a strength weapon so probably strength.

Spanish Jackie- Charisma or Dex, but she displays more charisma.

Calico Jack- Charisma definitely.

Anne- Charisma is the one we see her use but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say her Dex is better.

Mary R.- Strength on the Ivan principle. Definitely not charisma

Mary B.- Commoner stat block with proficiency in painters tools

Izzy- Strength. But much like Stede this is a process of elimination. His Constitution is the worst Constitution we see in OFMD (Izzy the spewer), his Charisma is ass (see everything about him) his wisdom is so bad he can't succeed on an insight check to save his fucking life (and his life has depended on it) intelligence is not so good, Dex is good given how often he lurks in the corner unseen and appears places and the thing he does to Stede's shirt in 1.02 but the beginning of the duel with Stede is the most clear instance of a character using a versatile weapon with their strength stat I've ever seen so I think his strength is probably equal to or better than his dex. Also all the things we see him teaching Stede in 2.05 are strength and dex skills so I think that's where his skill set is.

Damn this crew is not a dexy bunch. Jim said "I'm playing an assassin rogue that throws knives" and everyone else said "alright let me not step on your toes then"

So this was the last qualm I had with the whole "Qui-Gon should've trained Anakin, not Obi-Wan" take or that Qui-Gon is somehow more advanced than the other Jedi.

During, Celebration Anaheim 2022, at the Tales of the Jedi Panel, Dave Filoni had this to say:

“Well, [Qui-Gon's] ego is not there, because Obi-Wan tells him "if you’d just do what the Council said, you’d be on the Council" and he’s [like] "I’ll do what I must." Like, he doesn’t worry about those things, because he’s trying to get to the selfless truth of things, y’know? Everything that Qui-Gon’s trying to do is— he’s not afraid to love because he does not possessively love. And that’s something that the Jedi of the Prequel era have kinda - in their involvement with politics - have forgotten. It’s faded.”

So aside from having already established that George Lucas said multiple times that all Jedi can love without getting possessive, it's not something unique to Qui-Gon...

Obi-Wan thought Anakin was dangerous, and underestimated both Anakin and Jar Jar? Well, Anakin proves him wrong and blows up the Trade Federation ship, and thanks to Jar Jar, the Naboo are able to retake their planet.

We know Obi-Wan learns from this, because skip to Episode II and he's asking other "Guide" archetypes like Dexter Jettster for advice. He's learned to see their value.

He's putting the Council on a pedestal, is strictly by the book? Well, now he's ready to go against the Council's approval, if necessary, to train Anakin.

He still has much to learn about the Living Force, worries too much instead of focusing on the here and now? The only way he's able to beat Maul is by emptying his mind and letting the Force guide him.

Obi-Wan's whole arc in The Phantom Menace is going from being someone that...

dismisses characters emblematic of the Guide mythological archetype (like Anakin or Jar Jar),

needs to think for himself instead of being so by-the-book.

needs to open up and feel the Force instead of getting bogged down in thoughts and logic,

... to someone that:

listens to Guide characters, like Dexxter Jettster,

can stand up to the Council when needed,

can let the Force guide his actions.

As George Lucas puts it:

"In the beginning, Obi-Wan is at odds with Qui-Gon, who rebels against the Jedi rules. But by the end of the film, he has become Qui-Gon by taking on his rebellious personality and responsibilities." - The Making of The Phantom Menace, 1999

And you see this evolution, btw. It's not front and center, but it's there, in Obi-Wan's mannerisms (putting a comforting hand on Anakin's shoulder like Qui-Gon used to)...

Obi-Wan's flaws in TPM are intentional story points, which he grows out of by the end of the narrative.

So to see his arc in Episode I then say "well, Qui-Gon was better suited for Anakin because Obi-Wan said x"... when the whole point is that Obi-Wan starts out having much to learn and ends up becoming a less impulsive version of Qui-Gon... that's just crazy, to me.

Hey!! I just read through you're blog and I noticed youre Tobecky kids! I wondered about them! Why did you choose those names for them? and how they were received by both Becky and Tobey?

Hello! And Thank you for the ask. (^_^)v

Ngl, I do get very excited about questions regarding any fankids from future AU since they have been the biggest fixation I have regarding my AU. And of course, plus it's Tobecky.

For the names, for context of anyone who doesn't know my Tobecky fankids bc maybe its been a while, it goes:

-Tori (Anactoria) [The oldest]

-Luis [middle child]

-Matilda [youngest]

(They're on my banner now. The easiest way to tell them apart is by their obvious color coordination) (Tori is in purples, Luis dark magenta/crimson, Matilda aquamarine/green-blues)

But yeah, the names!

I came up with their names about in 2018. Yeah, the same year I got fixated on the Wordgirl fandom. At first, I just had the concept of future AU only going from when Becky and the gang went to college, but I got worms in my head casting a vision of a next generation wordgirl story and of course the idea of domestic older Tobecky shenanigans with kids. And I have been sick ever since...my brain it has not recovered.

At first, I only designed one kid, Tori. Which was initially short for Victory since it fits her character, but then I remembered like a dumbass that there is literally a character named Victoria. And I tried to change it in lore that no....um her full name is actually something embarrassingly unique like Anactoria (based on one of Sapphos poems, because local literature nerd Becky might name her daughter that) so she shortens it to Tori. Where then some ppl mistake that she was named after family friend Victoria, and that's the gag for her name. She's named after a poem subject and real funny that it's from Sappho considering who Tori is lmao, but also fits some of her Greek aesthetics.

Luis. Now Luis was a strange one. As I said, I only intended at first for Becky and Tobey in future AU to have one kid, and I only focused on her character. Eventually (aka like 5 months later), I wanted to design other tobecky fankids since the family didn't feel complete for me just yet. So I thought of a little brother, like a TJ to a Becky. But I wanted a baby in there too, so um, middle child Luis was forced to be/lh. But you can tell with some of his characterization and how the family treats him. He was supposed to be the youngest or at least act like the youngest, but nope, he's the middle kid, but he is the most spoiled. His name when I designed him was Lewis, as both references to the protagonist of Meet the Robinsons and to Lewis Carrol of "Alice and Wonderland" (for another literature reference and cause his aesthetic is fairytales). However, I realized that I at least wanted one kid of their's to have a more Hispanic sounding name since y'know I can't lose the culture here, just because Becky married a Brit. So I just had his name and pronunciation easily changed to Luis! (Not said like Lewis or Louise).

Matilda is funny because her name has not changed at all. From her creation, I always imagined her as the youngest and mysteriously smartest of the family. Where Tori and Luis would be messes, she's the one who apparently has it together. She's the Dexter of the family, born a genius, and acts above her age, like a little scientist. I also made it that she's the one with the unique ability of telekinesis and eventually other psychic powers. And for that, she was named after another iconic smart little girl with such abilities. Yep, her name is refence to Matilda from the book and movie (and ig musical too) (that also counts as a literature refence, Becky was 2 for 2 in the naming, too bad Luis couldn't make it 3 lol). She's also nicknamed Matilde, Matty, and Tilly by her siblings and friends.

As for how Tobey and Becky reacted to each of them...hmm while I could just say that they just appeared one day because that's the funniest answer but not canon. I'll just say vaugley how they reacted to them knowing about a kid/how the kids were when they arrived.

All three are ages apart, mainly Tori, since she wasn't intended to have siblings, and I first had her be 12 when Luis came home, but I retconned that a year ago. Where she was 7. The timeline of the McCallister-Botsford family is kinda all over the place, but I'll make it more streamlined one day. (Grrr, I'm now mad at "Stars that shine in your eyes is what matters" because it implies that Luis isn't born yet when now he should be)

So first things first. Tori. Tobey and Becky, after two years of marriage, wanted a kid. And even though, in retrospect, they probably should have waited a bit, they still had their energetic gremlin. They were prepared, excited, and, of course, nervous. And even with the planning they've done, they still didn't anticipate how much of a handful their first would be. Tori was a chaotic little thing, her half Lexiconian abilities definitely causing headaches. There was also her headstrong personality, which made playtime with her an exercise. Tobey and Becky were really preoccupied with her and their own adjectives that there's even a plot line about how they haven't been romantic in years and realize it one day.

When Tori was 7 and she started to become quickly independent, like her mom was at that age (maybe it's a Lexiconian thing), it gave Becky and Tobey time to think about their family more and how it will be smooth sailing from here with Tori getting older...Until Luis happened. He was a surprise, and unlike Tori, he would be a handful too, but in a different way. Tori never cried as much or fussed when she was a baby. The tiredness of taking care of her was all her bountiful energy. However, Luis was clingy, reactive, and sensitive. He was a heavy crier, and it wouldn't go well if they didn't read him a bedtime story. He acted more typical of a human baby, then his sister (and later other sister). He liked to be picked up or carried. Usually, he would also cling to people like some sort of koala.

4 years after Luis was Matilda. She was another surprise. The thing with Matilda is that as a baby, she was already pretty gifted, both in her mind and powers (which were one). Matilda was born with gradual paraplegia. She was given a few chances to learn to crawl and walk, but by age 3, she did have to use a wheelchair. She had other health problems by her birth, but her and the rest of the family learned to adapt. Matilda and Luis formed a bond since they were only 4 years apart versus Tori, who was almost a decade ahead of them. Surprising since Luis would easily get jealous of anyone stealing their parents' time, but he didn't mind being a big brother now and protective of his sister.

Introducing: Bix and Tahir!

These are the fellas from my most recent writing piece on this blog, and I just wanted to write up a little post with some background information on them as well as some fun facts!

Bixita “Bix” Meliaki

Bix is a harpy! He’s a humanoid, but there are some key differences. Most notably his wings that are just about as tall as he is, his feathered ears, and his talons that he has instead of feet.

In addition to how different he looks, he’s a bit different internally as well. Harpies are smaller creatures (standing about 5’2 on average) seeing as they have to remain small enough to fly. So naturally have small stomachs, but they also have fast metabolisms so they can digest food quickly both to give them energy and ensure they’re never too full to fly. (Unless they seriously overeat) So in order to stay healthy, harpies need to eat more often than a person would.

Bix is an amputee. He lost his right leg when he was a child, and he has a prosthetic made from a vulture’s leg that he has enchanted with necromancy to act like his own. However, the enchantment breaks when Bix is under too much stress, and it costs a lot of energy to recast. So if he’s too tired or hungry, he simply won’t be able to recast the enchantment and get his leg working again.

Bix is also a trans man. He doesn’t like how ‘feminine’ his full name sounds so he prefers to go by his nickname, and there was no need for top surgery either because. Birds don’t have tits ✌️

He is a huge grump, and he’s got quite the temper and dirty mouth despite his ‘angelic’ features. Tahir likes to think this is because the harpy is ‘perpetually hangry,’ which is mostly true because he seems to calm down quite a bit after a good meal.

Tahir: Crown Prince of the Undercommons

Tahir is a Drow: or a dark elf. He was born and raised in the Undercommons: The land beneath the surface. And due to his title, he’s slated to rule it one day. He’s still quite young, (Only 23) and he’s spent most of his life just learning about the world and how to rule a kingdom. He has very little practical knowledge.

The one real special racial feature that he has is his night vision: His eyes are adjusted for dark environments so he can see very well at night or without the help of a torch or fire!

However, he is very book-smart and he’s naturally curious. He likes learning, and he approaches life with a very open mind. He’s not naive though, the harsh environment of the Undercommons taught him that much growing up. He was also trained to use a sword and a bow to protect himself if the need ever arose, so he’s pretty dexterous and quite good in a fight.

He has a very gentle nature. Despite being trained to fight, he doesn’t like fighting and he’d rather avoid conflict as much as possible. At the end of the day, he believes actions speak louder than words. Sometimes this can create an issue when he fails to speak up for himself. Bix evens him out in that regard, because the harpy is absolutely not afraid to speak up.

He has a surprisingly good sense of humor. While Bix relies on vulgarity, Tahir makes quick-witted jokes that usually take Bix a second to process.

In the show I kind of feel like part of the reason Dexter kept Emma as just a friend was because of how she teased him (or mocked) his dreams of being rich and famous. I mean no one really likes being teased about their dreams and it was their first meeting. Also he was, possibly, feeling intimidated by how smart she was? Not the he didn't like it, but if they dated she might think she could do better than him. I think Dex did mention he thought she felt like he was beneath her when they fighting and he brought up the column?

yeah that fight was rough. in the book he did really like her from the beginning but he wasnt used to having that kind of connection with girls and his first immediate thought was to just..leave. because thats what he usually did. they showed that in the show too a bit.

also not to be a total emma apologist but dex was a lot more privileged that she was. so i think there were reasons on both of their ends why they were afraid to make it work and why it took so long for them to even try it. they both had to grow a lot and get to that place where they were both in that mental headspace and were both emotionally ready to be with each other :)

Okay, so I'm pretty much going through a bout of insomnia and I've been playing a lot of Fallout New Vegas, so I've been thinking a lot about how we could write idols like an RPG character, so I've roughly written a character creation system.

So, here's the fruits of my labor:

Attributes

Attributes are the simplest and rawest expression of what a character is and is capable of. They serve as the basis for Skills. Is a character strong or wise? A charmer? Tough beyond mere mortal men? Attributes answer these basic questions.

The typical character has attributes within the 1-10 range. Attributes above 10 are possible with exceptions.

The Ten Attributes

There are ten attributes and are arranged into two groups of five. One group is for Tangible Attributes, while the other group is for Intangible Attributes. Both groups contain complimenting tangible/intangible pairs.

Tangible Attributes

Tangible Attributes are aspects of a character that can be measured in empirical ways or quantified. These are aspects that are easier for others to notice and recognize.

Agility- Proficiency in physical control. Agility encompasses flexibility, dexterity, speed, and motor control.

Endurance- Physical durability and quality. This incorporates construction, reliability, physique, and efficiency.

Intellect- Empirical information processing ability. Can be likened to book smarts, computational prowess, and logical reasoning.

Perception- Ability to garner useful information from empirical senses. Characters may have senses that give greater range to detect from, but still rely on Perception to make the sensory information useful.

Strength- Physical strength and power. Strength can determine a character’s physical force in a hit, carrying capacity, and ability to brute force through situations.

Intangible Attributes

Intangible Attributes are aspects of a character that are qualitative and ethereal in nature. You know they “exist” but can’t properly define them. Many of these attributes are hard for others to discern, unless they are at one extreme or another.

Focus - Coordination, concentration, and application of the self. A measurement of a character’s control over the balance of body and mind.

Spirit - Courage, will, guts, fighting spirit, and/or faith. Intangible compliment to Endurance, which measures a character’s ability to persevere.

Sense - The Anti-Intellect: Common sense, wisdom, and other bits of intelligence. A representation of a character’s mind shaped by experience, hard lessons, and raw intuition.

Beyond - Gut feelings, sixth senses, and beyond-the empirical perceptions. A character’s ability to garner useful information from non-empirical sources.

Charisma - “Strength” of character. A character’s ability to influence others, get attention, or inspire those to follow the lead. Charisma isn’t tied to physical looks, but presence.

Skills

A character will be tested at some point. A character’s actions sometimes require skill and checks based on these skills find out if and how they happen. Is the lock deftly picked in time or does it jam from incompetence? Does the character quietly creep around the courtyard without being detected or easily spotted by the first spotlight? Does the character decipher that key phase out of the ancient texts that warns of the troubles to be faced in the next adventure? Skills start out broad and general. Later on, a character’s skill set becomes focused and branches out into refinement. A character can put forth effort to develop a broad skill set or focus down branches of skills to specific mastery. Either way, a character can develop skills through using them in impressive ways.

Athletic

Contributing Attributes: Agility, Endurance, Strength

Non-combative, physical activities

Example branches: Endurance Running, Gymnastics, Weight Lifting, Sports, Yoga, and similar physical activities.

Close

Contributing Attributes: Agility, Endurance, Strength

Up close and combative, or close-quarters combat.

Example branches: Blades, Sticks, Brass Knuckles, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, basic physical fighting.

Domestic

Contributing Attributes: Charisma, Sense, Spirit

Activities that aren’t industrial in nature.

Example branches: Household chores, art and crafts, hobbies, and amateur activities.

Interaction

Contributing Attributes: Charisma, Spirit, Strength

Activities, experiences, and knowledge about interacting with others.

Example branches: Trading, Negotiation, Diplomacy, and even Intimidation.

Navigation

Contributing Attributes: Beyond, Intellect, Perception

Skills that relate to movement, navigation, piloting, control, and positioning.

Example branches: Driving, Riding, Charting, and Locate

Ranged

Contributing Attributes: Agility, Focus, Perception

Combative from a distance. Ranged combat.

Example branches: Bows, Slingshots, Firearms, Plasma, Cannons, and Throw Rock.

Sensory

Contributing Attributes: Beyond, Focus, Perception

Knowledge of environment, exploration, and manipulation of sensory perceptions.

Example branches: Scouting, Spying, Sneaking, Camouflage, and Detection.

Society

Contributing Attributes: Charisma, Intellect, Sense

Understanding of cultures, languages, methods, mannerisms, and politics of civilizations in the present and past.

Example branches: Bureaucracy, Customs, Etiquette, Local Politics, and Geopolitics.

Theory

Contributing Attributes: Beyond, Intellect, Sense

Higher level knowledge, academic, and scholarly activities.

Example branches: History, geology, mathematics, engineering, and similar.

Vocational

Contributing Attributes: Endurance, Intellect, Sense

Industrial activities, professions, jobs, and other applications of knowledge.

Example branches: Welding, Carpentry, Paramedic, Electrician, and Engineer.

Character Build Process

Determine Attributes

Every Attribute starts out at the minimum of “1”: Attributes typically are capped at 10, but special reasons can allow attribute scores in excess of 10. This isn’t common.

Allocate 45 points to attributes as you please: 45 points is the standard amount. It provides enough points for characters to be distinguished from the average in the game world but still forces sacrifices to be made for very high scores in attributes. For reference, the average Attribute score is “5”.

Calculate Skills

Circle two Attribute abbreviations in each Root Skill: These two attributes will be the major contributors to that Skill. (e.g., if a character is focused on Athletic, they would either choose Agility, Endurance, or Strength); If two attributes are the same value, select the attribute which best reflects how the character would use that skill to solve problems.

Calculate the Base rating by totaling the attributes for each Root Skill, and count major contributor attributes twice: Given average Attributes of “5”, the average for a Skill is “25”.

Spend 100 Skill Points: See the Skills section for more information about how to spend Skill points and how to branch more skills from root skills.

The fun doesn’t end there and Prezzy shows us his songwriting dexterity with a melody-tinged hook where he paints a vivid picture of him stepping into the ring, making headlines while the fans chant “Prezzy Bomaye”.

“ Prezzy Bomaye” is taken from President Zik and Teck-Zilla’s forthcoming project Mike & Muhammad, a 12-track body of work that bridges the old and the new. On the production side, Teck-Zilla crafts a blend of modern-day trap and boom-bap soundscapes for President Zik who proceeds to wreak havoc with his distinct laidback flow and off-kilter rap schemes.
