Devil in Winter works as an antagonist redemption romance because Kleypas wrecks that man's whole fucking life. Sebastian is humbled, he gains responsibilities, and he apologizes
Most importantly Evie has negotiating ground

I refuse to hate on Colin like some are already doing, isn't he your favorite? Some of my favorite male leads in historical romance are Sebastian St. Vincent (Devil in Winter) and Malcolm Bevingstoke (The Day of the Duchess) and let me tell you guys they ain't NO saints for sure and the amount of terrible decisions these two make oh la la. You know what they have in common with Colin? They are so in love with their romantic interest, it makes them stupid. And Colin is one my favorites too, and thank God he is not perfect, he's just a man! So you know what? Fuck all of this, I'm chill now, and just waiting to see Colin and Penelope be in love with each other and FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE. And a very important thing, having sex is not a character flaw. Get over it.

Lisa Kleypas, Marrying Winterborne
These 2 characters had some really good chemistry!
Favourite parts:
"Aye, and then leaving London after setting me to longing for you.
Now you have me like a dog on a leash, begging for more."
Amusement curled through her voice. "I see no dog on a leash. Only a very large wolf."
Catching her from behind, Rhys lowered his mouth to the side of her neck. "Your wolf," he said gruffly, and grazed her skin with the edge of his teeth.
And of course, the best love declaration:
"I said, try it." Rhys pushed from the desk and reached her with stunning quickness, caging her body with his and slamming the sides of his fists against the wall. The room vibrated. He glared into her shocked face. "Try to leave me, and see what happens. Go to France, go anywhere, and see how long it takes for me to reach you. Not five fucking minutes." He took a few vehement breaths, his gaze locked on hers. "I love you. I don't give a damn if your father is the devil himself. I'd let you stab a knife in my heart if it pleased you, and I'd lie there loving you until my last breath."

Eva and Jacks from Once Upon a Broken Heart have so many parallels to Evie and Sebastian St. Vincent from Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas. I don't have the energy rn to write a detailed analysis but for starters 1. They have the same name (Evangeline) lol

🪻Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas🪻
Secrets of a Summer Night Status: read Rating: 4.25 🌟 It Happened One Autumn Status: read Rating: 4 🌟 Devil in Winter Status: read Rating: 4.25 🌟
Scandal in Spring Status: read Rating: 3.75 🌟
After rewatching the first two seasons of Bridgerton in 2023, I went searching for a fix to hold me over until season 3 started lol. I ended up sifting through Regency-era book suggestions and I found this series. I read Secrets of a Summer Night last year (became swooned by Simon, obviously) and then decided to finally finish the rest of the series this year. What a charming series! I really liked It Happened One Autumn, I feel like I can resonate a lot with Lillian. Devil in Winter surprised me, I guess the good girl bad boy trope is always a little thrilling. And Scandal in Spring was really cute, I love Daisy lol.

2024: Book 18 - Devil In Winter
Tumblr media
Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas My rating: 5 of 5 stars If Devil In Winter ever gets anything less than a five star rating from me, call the police because I have been kidnapped, held hostage, and forced to rate this book lower. There is NOTHING I wouldn't do to go back in time and reread this book for the first time all over again. Literally NOTHING. I'd sell my kidneys…BOTH of them. Sebastian Challon is literally THE EPITOME of what a romance hero should be. Dreamy, sexy, sarcasticly witty, and a full on simp for his woman. The way Evie had him in the palm of her hand from the first moment he saw her in his drawing room…ooooh man. He was hurting for her before he even realized what was happening and I was THERE FOR IT ALL. I wanted more. If Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent has no fans I am dead. If Evie, Lady St. Vincent has no fans I am dead. IF LISA KLEYPAS HAS NO FANS I AM DEAD. This book is everything to me and my all time favorite HistRom. It's the book everything else is always measured against. And so far…nothing has even come close. You want to know what reading the perfect book is like? READ THIS IMMEDIATELY because it literally DOES NOT GET BETTER THAN THIS. I use the CAWPILE Review method for my reviews (see explanation here), just to keep me honest and help me understand what exactly I liked/didn't like. My ratings are below. Characters: 10/10 Atmosphere/Setting: 10/10 Writing: 10/10 Plot: 10/10 Intrigue: 10/10 Logic/Relationships: 10/10 Enjoyment: 10/10 Total rating 70/70 divided by 7 = 10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️ View all my reviews

We’re talking about gaming hells! Is it residual Derek Craven love? Probably. Why does Sarah love a casino so much? Why are we so into ladies being wagered by the idiot men in their lives? What makes these places that are so not sexy in real 2024 life so incredibly hot in a) James Bond movies, b) heist movies, and c) historical romances? We’re getting to the bottom of it—or at least, we’re going to talk about books we love. That’s the Fated Mates promise.

My taste in men can be easily understood by the following facts:
I first read Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas when I was 15 years old
I reread it every winter.
The hero of the book, Sebastian St. Vincent, is like the pinnacle of hotness me despite the fact he's blonde, doesn't know how to fight, and is a total softboy.
Like, the Fated Mates girlies are big Derek Craven-ites, which I intellectually understand, but that will never be me!

Book Review: Devil in Winter (Wallflowers #3) by Lisa Kleypas
Tumblr media
Oh, what wicked fun! I'm a simple gal, and there's just something about a dastardly rascal who is redeemed through the help and encouragement of a timid heroine that never flops for me. It probably comes down to oozing charisma, sexual tension, and a flavorful dash of opposites attract. That combination always leaves my tongue wagging, my palms sweating, and my heartbeat spiking. And, hey, at least I know what I like, right?
(Also, hell would have to freeze over before I grew weary of a marriage of convenience. So there's that.)
I won't lie, though. I had my reservations when I first started this, unsure whether or not I'd be able to forgive St. Vincent for his appalling conduct at the end of book two, but he was such a charming sexy devil that I couldn't help myself! Even things that I would ordinarily find goading or degrading - like how he often referred to Evie as "pet" - were swoon worthy instead of off-putting. The man was a walking, talking sexual entendre, and I'm not mad about it. More than that, he had a delicious development arc that took him from being an idle skirt-chaser and womanizer to a gaming hell owner who was utterly besotted with and devoted to his wife. (His fallen angel handsomeness didn't hurt either, thank you.)
I also loved seeing Evie blossom from a shy, stuttering wallflower into a woman with self-confidence who took control of her own future, escaped her abusive family, and made demands of her husband that could not be cowed. It was so satisfying to see her take something for herself, to be cared for and protected in return.
All said and done, I have a feeling Sebastian and Evie's story will be my favorite of the series. Reading how their romance unfolded was like having a heated brick pressed against my chest: warming my heart with all the excited fidgets and flutters. And that's going to be hard to beat!
4/5 stars
