𝕮𝖑𝖆𝖜𝖘 𝖔𝖋 𝕵𝖚𝖘𝖙𝖎𝖈𝖊 A poem about Lord Narasimha
In Indian mythology, as in Western mythology, the lion is the king of beasts. The lion is brave, majestic, the king and can achieve a lot. It's not for nothing that many people in India are called "Singh". "Singh" comes from "Simha", lion. The Sikhs call themselves a lion, which is nothing other than Simha in the Panjabi language.
In the following poem ‘Claws of Justice’, I have humbly tried to narrate the story of Lord Narasimha, the fourth incarnation or lion avatar of Vishnu and his fight against the Demon King Hiranyakashipu.👹
You can find the musical interpretation of the following poem in my Soundcloud 🎹.
CLAWS OF JUSTICE 🦁
"In the stillness of space, where whispers float, Hiranyakashipu, with power he couldn’t contain, the boon wrapped him tight, but he missed the note, Prahlada’s faith was fire, untouched by disdain.
He sought to silence a son, with truth in his veins, but silence speaks loud when the soul remains pure. In the pillars of pride, the essence sustains, the unseen God, where certainty is unsure.
Boons can twist minds, make the mighty blind, he challenged the divine, yet missed its form, Vishnu’s in the pillars, in the voids that bind, between day and night, the calm before the storm.
At twilight’s edge, where reality fades thin, no man, no beast, no time could resist, Narasimha emerged from where worlds begin, neither earth nor sky, just a primal twist.
Claws of justice, no weapon can match, power’s illusion crumbles where truth is born, pride meets its end, in the cosmic latch, in the heart of the dusk, the veil is torn.
From darkness he came, not bound by time, neither man nor lion, but something more, in the place between, where gods and demons rhyme, Narasimha’s roar settled the cosmic score.
No blade, no spell, just the essence of fate, Hiranyakashipu, crushed in the grasp of dawn, in the threshold of night, where the hours wait, the eternal truth, in the twilight drawn.
In the roar of Narasimha, all illusions cease, the king of pride met the end he couldn’t see, where light and dark find their final peace, faith remains, unbroken and free.
Ugram viram maha-vishnum jvalantam sarvato mukham - nrisimham bhishanam bhadram mrityur mrityum namamy aham."🙏🦁📿

Okay, after what seems like an eternity, I have finally swept through my dumps and dumps of one-shots/fanfics that I wrote that one could never search for and read in this pile of never-ending Tumblr. I made them on one master list!!!

Does devotion to Vishnu mean letting go of our materialistic dreams and job and chanting his name?
Definitely not, because Shri Krshna Himself told Arjuna, in the Bhagavat Geeta, that one must perform Karma Yoga, with the intention of bhakti and attaining Paramaatma within one’s mind. One must be fully devoted to Bhagavaan and perform their prescribed duties as well.
Without performing karma, we cannot even survive or maintain our physical bodies!
(Shri Krshna said): “You should thus perform your prescribed duties, since action is superior to inaction. By ceasing activity, even your bodily maintenance will not be possible. Work must be done as a yajna to the Supreme Lord; otherwise, work causes bondage in this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, for the satisfaction of God, perform your prescribed duties, without being attached to the results.”
—Bhagavat Geeta, Adhyaaya 3, Shlokas 8 and 9
Further, in the fifth Adhyaaya, Krshna mentions that non-action is superior to performing actions. This may sound contradictory, but in his Bhagavat Geeta bhaashya, Shripaada Madhvacharya mentions that “sanyaasa” and “non-action” do not refer to becoming a monk and renouncing our job, family life, etc. It refers to being unattached to the results of our work and not being entangled in materialism. Even a monk must perform some karma in order to survive!
All our karma must be performed to please Bhagavaan and we must keep Him in mind always, even while performing our material duties.
For those who are completely engrossed in Bhagavaan, the offering is Brahman, the ladle with which it is offered is Brahman, the act of Yajna is Brahman, and the fire is also Brahman. Such persons can easily attain Him.
—Bhagavat Geeta, Adhyaaya 4, Shloka 24
Mahaaraaja Janaka, one of the most ideal Karma Yogi and bhakta too, has been said to have achieved the highest destination through Karma Yoga itself. Shripaada Madhvacharya explains in his Bhagavat Geeta bhaashya, Adhyaaya 3, Shloka 3:
There exist two types of men - those who renounce the ordained actions for family life and abide solely in wisdom like Sanaka, referred to as saankhyaanaam or those who though live the temporal life, yet abide in wisdom like Janaka, referred to as yoginaam (among the Yogis).
Therefore, Janaka Mahaaraaja is said to be the ideal devotee and Karma Yogi.
(Shri Krshna said): “By performing their prescribed duties, King Janaka and the others attained perfection. You should also perform your duties to set an example for the good of the world. Whatever actions great persons perform, common people follow. Whatever standards they set, all the world pursues.”
—Bhagavat Geeta, Adhyaaya 3, Shloka 20
To conclude, I would like to share the following quotation of Shripaada Madhvacharya, from the Padma Puraana:
तच्चोक्तम्- देवादीनामादिराज्ञां महोद्योगेपि नो मनः । विष्णोश्चलति तद्भोगोप्यतीव हरितोष(णम्)णः'' ॥ इति पाद्मे ॥४ ॥
“The Devas and many well known kings and princes, even though were ever engaged in karma, did not have their minds wavering from Shri Vishnu. Therefore even when they were engaged in material pleasures, Shri Vishnu was pleased,” thus, is stated in the Padma Puraana.
—Bhagavat Geeta Taatparya Nirnaya, Adhyaaya 3, Shloka 4
In the Bhaagavata Puraana, we can observe the story of Prajaapati Daksha’s son, who wished to renounce the kingdom, but was forced to rule it, due to the death of his brother. At that time, Devarshi Naarada instructed him to stay renounced from material life and simultaneously follow it — through engaging his mind in Vishnu bhakti and offering all his actions to Bhagavaan!

स्वयमेवात्मनात्मानं वेत्थ त्वं पुरुषोत्तम | भूतभावन भूतेश देवदेव जगत्पते || १५ || svayam evātmanātmānaṁ vettha tvaṁ puruṣottama bhūta-bhāvana bhūteśa deva-deva jagat-pate Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own potencies, O origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, O Supreme Person, Lord of the universe! The Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa can be known by persons who are in a relationship with Him through the discharge of devotional service, like Arjuna and his successors. Persons of demonic or atheistic mentality cannot know Kṛṣṇa. Mental speculation that leads one away from the Supreme Lord is a serious sin, and one who does not know Kṛṣṇa should not try to comment on Bhagavad-gītā. Bhagavad-gītā is the statement of Kṛṣṇa, and since it is the science of Kṛṣṇa, it should be understood from Kṛṣṇa as Arjuna understood it. It should not be received from atheistic persons. https://gloriousgita.com/verse/en/10/15 https://bhagavad-gita.org/Gita/verse-10-13.html https://bookchanges.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Bg-Chapter-10-diff.htm https://youtube.com/c/HearSrilaPrabhupada https://www.bhagavad-gita.us/famous-reflections-on-the-bhagavad-gita/ #bhagavatam #srimadbhagavatam #vishnu #vishnupuran #harekrishna #harekrsna #harekrishna #harekrisna #prabhupada #bhagavadgita #bhagavadgitaasitis #bhagavadgītā #srilaprabhupada #srilaprabhupad #srilaprabhupadaquotes #asitis #india #indian #wayoflife #religion #goals #goaloflife #spiritual #bhakti #bhaktiyoga #chant #prasadam #picoftheday #photo #beautiful #usa https://sites.google.com/view/sanatan-dharma https://m.facebook.com/HDG.A.C.Bhaktivedanta.Svami.Srila.Prabhupada.Uvaca/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CpZqDqaI3bK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

How to worship?
This knowledge is acquired by me from my Jyotish Gurus and reading about authentic saints. I wanted to share with you all. I will be glad to receive your input in comment section as well.
What is the best method of Worship?
There are many ways to reach to God. But, as I heard from different scholars, bhakti is the easiest way. The advice I got is to start with Jaap. You don't have to chant complicated sanskrit mantras in the beginning. Just chanting naam jaap like 'om namah shivay' Or 'om namo narayanay' or 'Jai raam Shri raam Jai jai raam' is enough. Keep chanting the name of God as much as possible. And there is no restriction for naam jaap. You can even chant while eating or even laying down on bed. My jyotish guru told me to chant at least 1000 times 'om namah shivay' in a day. I do as much as possible everyday.
Whom should I chant?
You can chant any main deity. There are many deities in Hinduism such as Shiva, Vishnu, Raama, Krishna, Veerabhadra, Kali, Kartikeya and many more. If you belong to Smaartha tradition, worshipping Shiva, Vishnu, Ganapati, Surya, Durga is necessary. They have the power to guide you to towards moksha.
Should you worship if you have a modern lifestyle?
This is an important question I had. Because I used to eat meat and consume alcohol. I went to bars and pubs with my friends and teammates. I told the same to my jyotish guru. I also explained my high sexual urge. I have lots of kinks and fetishes as well. So I was doubting myself worthy of worshipping. He advised me to continue chanting as much as possible despite the bad habits. Through devotion, our negativity will reduce. He also told me that consuming meat is more harmful than drinking alcohol for saadhana. So.. At any stage, don't think that you are unworthy of doing worship. God loves everyone and everyone is standing at different level in their spiritual progress. Raam naam jaap turned a thief into great sage valmiki. This is the greatness of Lord's name. So never quit worshipping at any stage.
Should you do Ugra devta upasana?
I came across some people who criticize ugra devta upasana such as worshipping of Veerabhadra, Kaali or Narasimha. It is important to understand that every God has their importance. We should choose God to worship according to our liking. Ugra devtas are needed for protection and they are no lesser. We hindus are taught to be humble and meek. But extreme level of non-violence leads to slavery. Most of the greatest Hindu warriors were Ugra devta upasakas. I personally think Kshaatra dharma should be revived in Hinduism considering the kind of threat Sanatanis face everyday. So Ugra devta upasana is as auspicious as other type of Upasanas.
Should you choose Ishta deva?
Even shri Ramakrishna paramahamsa advised to choose ishta deva. His ishta dev was maa kali. Isht deva upasa is helpful in focussing more on what you like and bhakti develops over time. I personally like lord Shiva more. I chant his name alot. It's not necessary to have ishtdev in the beginning but you might get attracted to a deity eventually.
Respect for other paths
Never criticize other paths of worship. There are left hand paths of worship in Hinduism which follows tantric methods. It shouldn't be criticised and they have a place in Hinduism. Hinduism accepts atheists as well as charvakaas. Even shri adi shankaraachaary did not condemn pashubali(animal sacrifice). So one shouldn't condemn balipratha. Many archaryas spoke in favor of it. Panchamakara is also allowed in Tantric rituals. These are madya (alcohol), māṃsa (meat), matsya (fish), mudrā (grain), and maithuna (sexual intercourse). Panchamakara shouldn't be criticised and it's valid in Tantric paths. They are not done for pleasure seeking but it's a part of Tantric ritual.
These are the advices I got from elders and scholars. Happy to receive any input.

Story of Krishna Prema!
Krishna Prema is the rarest jewel. It has been beautifully defined by Srila Rupa Goswami as follows
samyaṅ masṛṇita-svānto mamatvātiśayāṅkitaḥ
bhāvaḥ sa eva sāndrātmā budhaiḥ premā nigadyate
When Bhava (transcendental emotions) becomes extremely condensed, it is called Prema by the learned. It softens the heart completely and produces extreme possessiveness for Krishna in the devotee.- Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu 1.4.1
When there is the manifestation of pure love, the devotee thinks, ‘’Krishna belongs to me and I belong to Krishna. Krishna is my very own.’’ This is the feeling of the devotee. The only desire of the pure devotee is to selflessly serve and please the transcendental senses of Krishna, who is the eternal master of all our senses. Depending on his or her perfection of Bhava, a devotee may think of Krishna as one’s master, friend, son, or even a conjugal lover. The degree of possessiveness, intimacy, and intensity of love increases from the stage of considering Krishna to be my master to that of considering Krishna to be my conjugal lover.
In Goloka Vrindavana, no one considers Krishna as the God. The love of the Vrajavasis is so pure and intimate that any conception of Godhood or Krishna's divinity will slacken the sweetness of loving exchanges. Thus, by the arrangement of the yoga maya (divine illusion), the intimate mood of sweetness conceals the mood of awe and reverence for God.
For a pure devotee situated on the platform of Krishna Prema, the only definition of death is not being able to see her beloved Krishna.
prāna-pratima-rūpena darśanādarśanena ca
jīvanaṃ maraṇam syād yat tat premeti nigadyate
‘If I cannot see my Lord, who is more dear to me than my own life, then this life is actually death.' Such an intense feeling is known as Prema- Hari Bhakti Ratna Prakasha 6.44
The only cause of the devotee’s suffering is separation from Krishna and the only cause of the devotee’s bliss is meeting with Krishna. When such a pure devotee experiences the feeling of separation from Krishna, he considers the whole world void or shunya.
yugāyitaṁ nimeṣeṇa cakṣuṣā prāvṛṣāyitam śūnyāyitaṁ jagat sarvaṁ govinda-viraheṇa me
My Lord Govinda, because of separation from You, I consider even a moment a great millennium. Tears flow from My eyes like torrents of rain, and I see the entire world as void.-Shikshastakam, Caitanya Caritamrta, Antya Lila 20.39
When a pure devotee experiences feelings of separation from Krishna, wherever he glances, he sees nothing but Krishna. If he sees a dark rain cloud, he remembers the dark complexion face of Krishna. If he sees a peacock, he remembers Krishna. If he sees the flute, he remembers the flute player Krishna. If he sees a water body, he thinks it is Yamuna, and so on.
sthāvara-jaṅgama dekhe, nā dekhe tāra mūrti sarvatra haya nija iṣṭa-deva-sphūrti
A pure devotee while seeing everything as mobile and immobile, does not exactly see their external forms but rather everywhere he immediately sees the form of Krishna.- Caitanya Caritamrta, Madhya Lila 8.274
Internal symptoms of a pure devotee
The primary way to detect one’s real Bhava is by analysing the internal symptoms of a pure devotee, which are nine in number.
1. Avyartha-kalatvam: Utilization of time. Constant engagement in devotional service, twenty-four hours a day.
2. Ksanti: Perseverance. To remain tolerant and patient, even amid great disturbance.
3. Virakti: Detachment. Complete indifference to objects of sense gratification.
4. Mana-sunyata: Pridelessness. One feels humble, even though he is extremely elevated.
5. Asa-bandha: Hope against hope. Firm faith that Krsna will deliver one to the highest perfection, even though one feels low and utterly unqualified to achieve it on his own.
6. Samutkantha: Intense eagerness for achieving pure loving service.
7. Nama-gane sada ruci: Constant attraction to chanting Hare Krsna.
8. Asaktis tad-gunakhyane: Addiction to glorifying Krsna's qualities.
9. Pritis tad-vasati sthale: Love for living in the Lord's Dhama (Sri Vrindavana)
External symptoms of a pure devotee
Apart from internal symptoms, there are also external or visible symptoms observed in the pure devotee, which are primarily eight in number. They are as follows
stambha: paralysis (being stunned)
sveda: perspiration
romāñca: horripilation (hairs standing on end)
svara-bheda: faltering of the voice (choking)
vepathu or kampa: shivering (trembling of the body)
vaivarṇya: pallor (change in bodily color)
aśru: tears
pralaya: devastation, or unconsciousness.
One should note that the internal symptoms of pure devotion are genuine indicators of one’s real bhava for Krishna. External symptoms could be misleading, for there could be many pseudo-devotees pretending to show off their so-called love in public by exhibiting external symptoms such as tears. On the other hand, there would be many genuine pure devotees, who may not display any such external symptoms in public.
