Vakratunda Ganesh Mantra

One of the most important and also one of the most common Ganpati Mantras, this is the Ganesh mantra for wealth, and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Riddhi (Hindu Goddess of Prosperity) and Goddess Siddhi (Hindu Goddess of spiritual enlightenment).

“Vakratunda Maha-Kaaya Surya-Kotti Samaprabha Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva-Kaaryeshu Sarvadaa ||”

Meaning :

Vakra – means one that is not straight. Vakratunda – means curved trunk. Mahakaya – means large body, if we see that in a more divine sense it means most powerful. Suryakoti – means ‘Surya’ or sun and koti means crore. Samprabha – means ‘prabha – aura, grandeur’ , ‘sama- like’. Suryakoti samprabha – means whose aura is like light of crores of sun put together. Nirvgnam – obstacle free. Kurume – give me. Deva – means God. Sarva – means all. Karyeshu -work. Sarvada -always.

Full meaning : “Oh god with curved trunk, large body whose aura is like light of crores of sun, Please make my entire work obstacle free, forever.���

Benefit : Chanting of this mantra invokes Lord Ganesha to remove every obstacle between one and one’s well-being and helps to achieve wealth, wisdom, good luck, prosperity and success in all the endeavors.

Sankashti Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) every month. It is considered highly auspicious, especially when it falls on a Tuesday (known as Angarki Sankashti Chaturthi). Pooja Vidhi (पूजा विधि) 1. Preparation (तैयारी) Wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. Clean the pooja area and place an idol or picture of Lord Ganesha on a clean platform. Observe a day-long fast (optional), consuming only fruits, milk, or vrat-friendly food. 2. Sankashti Chaturthi Pooja Steps (पूजा विधि) A. Ganesh Ji’s Invocation (गणपति पूजन प्रारंभ) Light a diya (oil lamp) and incense sticks. Offer red flowers, durva grass (21 blades), sandalwood paste, and kumkum to Lord Ganesha. Offer modak, laddoo, coconut, and fruits as prasad. B. Ganesh Mantra and Aarti Chant Ganesh Mantras such as: "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" (ॐ गं गणपतये नमः) "Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha" Recite or listen to the Sankashti Ganesh Stotra and Ganesh Chalisa. Perform Ganesh Aarti (Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva). C. Moon Worship (चंद्र पूजा) The fast is traditionally broken after sighting the moon at night. Offer water (Arghya) to the moon while chanting: "Om Chandraya Namah" (ॐ चंद्राय नमः) Then, consume the prasad to complete the fast. Significance of Sankashti Chaturthi Observing this vrat removes obstacles (Vighna Vinashak) and brings prosperity. Worshipping Ganesha on this day is believed to fulfill wishes and happiness.
