Irondad fic ideas #160
Before the Avengers went to go and fight Thanos, Tony took some time to implement some tiny features into his robots -- in case he never made it home. For example, he coded DUM-E so that he'd do the little 8-bit happy birthday song on his most beloveds' birthdays. Morgan's, Pepper's, Rhodey's, Happy's, and, of course, Peter's.
Fast forward to after NWH. Tony is still in his coma post-snap (we know no death here). Pepper is cleaning his workshop as a nervous habit. Then, DUM-E starts to sing. A calm and slow playthrough of "Happy Birthday"
She lets it play out in confusion. Then, a hologram of Tony pops up, and he says, with the utmost adoration, "Happy birthday, Pete. I'm proud of you, Underoos."
And Pepper stands there in confusion because... Who is Pete?

The Outlaws (Outlaw!Joel Miller x f!reader) - Chapter 2
Moth's Masterlist // follow @mothandpidgeon-updates and turn on notifications to stay updated with my fics!
SERIES MASTERLIST
pairing: Outlaw!Joel Miller x f!reader
rating: T (eventual E 18+ MDNI)
wc: 1.7k
summary: Wanted for murder with a bounty on your head, your only hope of escaping the Pinkerton detectives is an outlaw named Joel Miller and his sidekick Ellie. But Joel has other plans for you.
tags: old west au, enemies to lovers, grumpy Joel, handcuffed together, period/genre/canon typical violence, alcohol, morally grey characters, reader has backstory, no use of y/n
authors note: Posting this today in honor of act ii. Yeehaw. As always, thank you @ezrasbirdie for the beta and support in this (you really need to tell me to stfu about these two) and in life.
Joel once took Sarah to see PT Barnum’s Greatest Show on Earth. Each ticket cost him two quarters. She pulled him by the hand past the tents with Tom Thumb and the giantess, straight to the exhibition of wild animals. There were all sorts of exotic animals in the menagerie– giraffes, elephants, snakes. You remind him of the tiger. Beautiful and cunning. Fierce. Dangerous unless it’s kept under lock and key.
Which is why he’s grateful he kept these old shackles in his saddle bag.
You’re in a friendlier mood once camp is set up and a rabbit is roasted on a spit. He knows it’s a rouse, that you’re still spitting mad and hoping to slit his throat in the night. On that train, you were the demure damsel in need of a rescue. Soon as he put that cuff on your wrist, you turned into a fire breathing dragon.
You can be as mad as you’d like. You’re no match for his strength or his revolver.
They sit around the fire, Joel and Ellie propped against their saddles. It’s a cool evening, a steady breeze blows off the river. The stars paint the purple sky and the cave is illuminated with the orange glow of a fire. There’s plenty to celebrate. Though, even when they score a good amount of money, gold pieces, and get away without a scratch, Joel never feels much satisfaction. Despite his personal quandary, it would be a beautiful night, really, if Joel weren’t sitting there waiting for you to do something foolish.
He can tell you’re meditating on some new escape plan, knows better than to look at you too long. A girl like you, pretty and with that sharp mouth, is the type that knows how to use her womanly wiles. You’re desperate enough to try just about anything and he’s not giving you the chance.
You must think he’s stupid enough to fall for it too. He reluctantly passes you his flask and, after you drink, you wipe your wet lips with a seductive finger.
Ellie’s being a real chatterbox, recounting each moment of the robbery as if she’s writing her own nickel weekly and peppering you with questions. He’s not surprised she’s taken a liking to you. There aren’t too many of the female persuasion out here. Maybe she can see some of Tess in you. He doesn’t. Tess was always calm and controlled. And when she was angry, she never fucking spit at him. In fact, he resents you for making him think about Tess at all.
“Ten thousand dollar bounty, huh?” Ellie asks you. “What’d you do?”
Joel’s seen more than a few people running from the law but none of them look like you. You’re no Annie Oakley.
“My sweetheart was fooling around with my sister so I killed em both,” you say.
“Really?” Ellie asks.
“No,” you say.
“What was it really?” she tries again.
“Leave it,” Joel says.
He’d be just as cagey about his past. Outlaws don’t live by any code but if they did, questions like that would be frowned upon.
Ellie grumbles at him.
“I’ve got ten on me too,” she tells you.
“Your daddy must be proud,” you say, looking to Joel.
They respond in unison— “He’s not my Pa,” and a “I ain’t her daddy.”
You do a lousy job suppressing a smile.
“So this is the infamous Miller gang? Ain’t much of a gang if you ask me,” you say.
Joel grinds his molars.
“We used to be a proper one. Most of ‘em are in prison now. And then we lost Tess to a bout with fever. And Tommy left,” Ellie recounts.
“Who’s Tommy?”
“Nobody,” Joel says same time as Ellie tells you, “His brother.”
You look Joel up and down.
“That’s enough yakking for tonight,” he says. “I’m turning in. C’mon.” He pulls the chain.
Ellie laughs. “I should warn you. He snores something awful.”
You scoff. “Is this some kind of ploy so you can wake up on top of me?” you protest.
Joel’s patience is wearing thin. He’s got half a mind to turn you loose and let the wolves deal with you.
“You can quit the belly aching, missy. I ain’t taking that thing off til you’re with the sheriff in Jackson.”
“You’ll wear him down eventually,” Ellie encourages.
“Ellie, go to sleep,” Joel orders.
She rolls her eyes.
“What if I got to use the privy?” you ask.
“Hope you like company,” Joel says.
You huff.
“You at least going to give me a blanket? Cold out here,” you say.
Joel’s only got one in his bed roll, a beautiful Pawnee blanket he bought off a trader from Kansas woven with geometric patterns. He knows it would be gentlemanly to let you sleep with it but you’re no lady.
He sighs as he hands it over. You wrap it around your shoulders with a self-satisfied look on your face.
“Anything else I can do for you, missy?” he says with mock cordiality.
“You can stop calling me missy,” you say.
“G’night, missy,” he says.
It’s not your best plan. But just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it won’t work.
First step, you wait for Ellie and Joel to fall asleep. The girl takes a while. She’s got a dime novel with a cowboy on the cover that she flips through as the flames die down. You watch her through your cracked eyelids, pretending to have already drifted off yourself.
It’s hard to tell if Joel’s out. He uses his saddle as a pillow and you’ve positioned yourself on the other side of it, your arm outstretched so you don’t have to be too close to him.
He murmurs to himself. You strain to catch what he’s saying. At first, there are words you can understand. The name Sarah passes his lips. But then you hear him make a sound you can only describe as a whimper.
It gives you pause. You’ve never been a nurturing type but it pulls at your heart strings, almost makes you want to put your arms around him. You imagine a hurt puppy inside that big, snarling dog of a man.
His sharp silhouette is highlighted in the amber glow of the campfire. It’s a shame he’s such a mean son of a bitch because he really is easy on the eyes. Then he rolls over. His unexpected motion nearly twists your connected arm out of its socket and you bite your tongue to keep from swearing. That bastard has you chained up like a dog. You do all you can to control your temper, swearing soundlessly. You can’t afford to wake him.
You wait a long while, listening to him grunt and snore. Once you’re sure he’s good and asleep, you move.
It’s a process. You begin by flexing your wrist. An innocent gesture that could be explained by sleepy twitches. He doesn’t stir.
Eventually you feel bold enough to inch towards him, pulling the chain carefully along the ground. You crawl on your belly until you’re in front of him, then you dare to lift your hands up.
The chain clinks against the buzz of the night insects and you swear it’s so loud you hear it echo off the mountains. You hold your breath, wide eyed, every muscle in your body taught.
Joel doesn’t wake. He might be pretending but his chest still rises and falls slowly. Either he’s a hard sleeper or he’s deaf. Might be a little of both. You’re always tired after the rush of a big score.
Ellie hasn’t woken up. Her eyes are closed, mouth hangs open. Down for the count.
You flex your fingers before you begin the next step, lick your lips and take a steadying breath.
You’ve picked pockets before. Never tried it on a sleeping man, though. You keep your touch light, delicate, unbuttoning his waistcoat with one hand. It falls open for you and you can’t help but smile.
The key to the handcuffs is tucked in the inner pocket. You saw him put it there. All you have to do is lift it out, unlock the cuff, and you’re a free woman. What you’re going to do after that, all alone in the middle of god only knows where, you’re not sure. But that’s not of material importance until you have that key.
Your teeth dig into your bottom lip and you move slower than molasses in January, easing your first two fingers into the little pocket. Your fingertip connects with metal and your heart jumps. Pinching the ringed end, you hold on and pull. It’s awfully heavy.
Because it’s not the key at all. You’ve fished a pocket watch out of Joel’s vest. Damn it. It’s a dainty little thing— fine gold with intricate scrollwork engraved on the back. The face is all busted up and it doesn’t seem to be ticking. Most importantly, though it’s not a key. You need that goddamn key if you want to get—
The unmistakable click of a gun being cocked makes you freeze. Joel’s awake, dark eyes shining in anger. You’ve had guns pointed at you on a number of occasions but still it makes your blood run cold.
“The hell are you doing?” he asks.
“You’re dreaming,” you tell him.
He doesn’t think that’s cute. The scowl on his face just deepens.
“Alright,” you say, raising your hands in surrender.
You put the watch back in place and crawl back to your spot.
“Gimme the damn blanket,” Joel growls.
You toss it to him, cowed. But what did you expect? This had never been a very good plan.
Once you hear the hammer of Joel’s gun go back into place, you breathe a sigh of relief. It’s quiet for a while as Joel gets under his blanket and you know he’s laying there waiting for you to fall asleep.
You try to settle down, wrapping your arms around yourself. The night air bites at you now that you’ve lost your blanket privileges.
“Sarah a sweetheart of yours?” you ask him.
His head snaps your way so fast you think his neck might break.
“You was talking to her in your sleep,” you explain.
“Say that name again and I’ll wring your neck,” he says.
He sounded like he meant it before but you feel like he’s looking forward to putting a bullet in you. You shiver. You’re smart enough not to say another word.

Out of Eden Masterpost!!!
A Mass Effect fanfiction trilogy. The events of the games had Shepard not been on Eden Prime.
Book One: Turn Left (completed)
Delia Shepard, traumatized and addicted to red sand after Torfan, has found a quiet-- albeit boring-- life on the Citadel as a Drugs and Trafficking Officer. When one of her informants is found dead in an alley, she's forced to team up with Detective Garrus Vakarian: an unfeeling, stiff, full of himself douche. But as they work together, they find that a dead mole is the least of their issues. Trouble is brewing, enemies are at every turn. And to top it all off, Shepard has sworn off friendships completely after the Alliance. So why can she barely function without Vakarian?
In another dark corner of the Citadel, Archangel has decided to sign up for an anonymous sex club. What's the worst that can happen? He's matched with a human he knows only as the Commander, someone who he can demand to obey his every rule and whim. As their meetings progress, Archangel finds himself getting closer and closer to the Commander. Can lust turn into something more substantial?

But there's a mysterious turian who follows her at every step, one that may be more than he seems on the surface.

He has one sole mission: to destroy Cerberus from the inside out. DuckTales THEORY: Team Who?
Hello Duckblr! We know that in DuckTales 2017, Huey, Dewey and Webby have their own definite cliques, but what if this idea were to extend to each of the six Duck children in hypothetical future seasons?
TLDR: If DuckTales kept going on, we would have seen more Louie/Doofus/Goldie episodes. May's interrogative side can blend her in with the Rescue Rangers.
Team Science (Huey)
Huey's group of allies usually revolves around working on scientific breakthroughs and his hero, Gizmoduck. Huey stories would usually involve these specific characters:
Gyro Gearloose
Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera (Gizmoduck)
Manny
BOYD
Gandra Dee
Huey's enemy is usually Mark Beaks, a businessman who makes his living off dumb and/or stolen ideas, which is totally against his moral code. If executed better, Dr. Akita could make a better contender.
Team Action (Dewey)
Dewey's group of allies usually revolves around getting into dangerous situations, definitely not due to the influence of Launchpad or his very own mother, Della. Dewey stories would usually involve these specific protagonists:
Launchpad McQuack
Della Duck
Drake Mallard (DW)
Gosalyn Waddlemeyer (an extension of DW)
Kit and Molly
Dewey's enemy is usually Don Karnage, a deranged air pilot who will go to any lengths to gain vengeance on him. Falcon Graves has also appeared in Dewey stories, a serious contender for his showboating.
Team Scheme (Louie)
Despite being shown to be a charmer in the show, Louie falls flat when it comes to making secure friends, especially when it's in his nature that he is the 'evil triplet' of the Duck boys. However, the cunning antihero, Goldie O'Gilt is quite fond of him. Louie stories would definitely involve these specific characters:
Goldie O'Gilt
Doofus Drake
Ottoman Brothers (placeholder because they're always in the background of Louie stories)
Although Louie completely destroyed Glomgold in S2, I'd love to see Rockerduck as his enemy, as the Wild West Swindler has a more interesting way to battle - with his words, instead of his fists.
Team Magic (Webby/April)
Webby's group of allies usually revolves around trying to fix the curses laid out from Scrooge's adventures, or his most powerful enemy, Magica De Spell. Webby stories would usually involve these specific characters:
Lena Sabrewing
Violet Sabrewing
Blackarts Beagle (redemption arc??)
Phantom Blot and Pepper (maybe they're forced to team-up??)
Morgana (placeholder because they don't have a grown-up hero)
Webby and Lena's enemy is usually Magica De Spell, a witch who wants to use her powers to abuse and take advantage of others, completely opposite to how Webby wants to play.
Team Mystery (May)
Despite the wishes of her current guardian, Donald Duck, I could see May get into contact with her ilk, also experimented on by FOWL - no other than the Rescue Rangers themselves!
Chip and Dale
Gadget Hackwrench
Monterey Jack
Zipper
...and maybe Detective Gokart from the comics (a loser that May could help to become a better person)
Perhaps the Rescue Rangers have found a larger FOWL experiment gone rogue and they need a heroine around their size to help bring the experiment to justice.
Team ??? (June)
Team Sports? Team Wellbeing? Team Theatre? Team Adorable? It seems that poor June is the only one I can't think of for a team.
By process of elimination, the only frequent group of protagonists without a child character to support them are the gods/goddesses of Ithaquack.
Bum Bum Ghigno, an everyday person from the comics might help her appreciate the normal and might draw parallels between the clone twins and his relationship with his brother.
I'd love to put the Idle Hour Club from Donald's first ever cartoon somewhere, but those stories wouldn't be fun.

Fleeting: Part 5 - Phantom Pains
Authors Notes: HECC YEAH MORE OF THIS! Feel like it's been ages since I posted the last part of this. Then again, life's been crazy. Took me a hot minute to remember everything I had going on here. Good thing I keep some semblance of notes.
Masterlist - Part 4
Content: Vampire whumpee, human whumper, hostage, ransom, shared pain, knee pain, face and neck burns, trafficking
............................................
Muir’s face hurt. It stung and burned a little and Muir winced, taking a moment to send a message to Joseph to ask him if he walked into a silver sign or something. He really couldn’t think of what else could be making his face hurt so bad through their link. Though it could just be that Joseph accidentally maced himself with pepper juice. Muir was still unfamiliar with how strongly sensations came across their bond now that he was a vampire.
Muir took a moment to filter out the feeling so he could get on with his work. He had been trying to crack down on Vampire ash operations, talking with rehab centers so when they did have rescues there would be places for those vampires to go, and figure out where the vampires were mostly being trafficked from. It was all so obnoxious. The black market for vampires in general hadn’t been that active just five years ago, but now, it was thriving. It was everywhere Muir poked his nose into.
And he couldn’t hardly get his work actually done because everywhere he looked there was another corrupt cop or detective or whatever standing there. He’d been working hard to kick them out and get the hiring process changed so that at least his sector would have people who were actually invested in helping the community and not just looking for a power trip.
Muir leaned back in his seat, running a hand over his still stinging face, trying to wish it all away. He liked his job and he wouldn’t be leaving it any time soon, but he sometimes felt like he was trapped within walls of unfair rules and regulations, fighting to move them enough to do some actual good so he would get to work that needed to be done. Thankfully, his voice held a lot of sway in the city since he’s made so much progress when it came to the vampire ash problem. Small victories.
He leaned forward again, typing away at his computer, scrawling through the sites where vampires were quite often traded. They weren’t explicitly marketed as vampires of course. They were marketed as ‘collectable floppy disks.’ Muir sometimes wondered if there were any real collectors of rare floppy disks that suddenly found themselves at the center of a vampire market.
He smiled a little at the thought, commenting on a ‘floppy disk’ marketed as having ‘research involving the Incan civilization.’
Info: What era of the incan civilization?
He stared at the page for a while. Was the vampire in question found in some Incan ruins then? Or had they been living since then and been kidnapped off the streets after someone found out how ancient they were? He added onto his question: And was it just dug up, or has it been in circulation a while?
Satisfied, he kept scrolling, commenting and adding helpful information here and there, keeping up the facade that he was just a regular here. This persona had bought a couple of vampires who he’d passed off to rehab centers, just to keep up his appearance in the servers. He was looking for a bigger score. Someone buying lots of vampires for a lot more than personal use.
One of the government agencies had bought the site from what he’d been told confidentially when he was brought onto this side of the project, and once they decided to bust everything, they would try and go through everything and save everyone they could.
It wouldn’t be everyone, but it would have to be enough.
Muir got up, needing a refill for his water bottle. He stood at the watercooler, filling it up and watching people drift in and out of the office. He should take his break soon. He’d been at work since 2:00 AM and now that it was about 8:00 AM and he still hadn’t had his break, he thought he probably should. Maybe take a walk over to a cafe nearby. Stand in the sun for a bit to get used to the itching it still caused him. Speaking of which, his neck burned now too. He pulled out his phone to check if Joseph had answered, growing more concerned. Maybe he’d go to Joseph’s workplace and check on him during his break.
Just as he started to walk back to his desk, a splitting pain shot through both of his knees.
He screamed, falling to the floor and people were on him in an instant.
“What happened!?”
“What’s going on!?”
“Muir, talk to me buddy!”
“Joseph!” Muir gasped, pushing himself up and shoving the sensation away, now certain that something was wrong. “Joseph! Crap, that felt like he got shot!”
“Joseph?” Blaire asked, helping Muir up. “What’s going on? Do you know where he is?”
“He’s supposed to be at work, but-” Muir cut himself off, concentrating, pulling at the bond and trying to see, but he was still so new to this, he couldn’t get anything besides pain and fear.
Thankfully, Granger took over the situation. Granger and Muir were not technically partners anymore, but they still worked close to each other in the office since Muir decided to work from here rather than the other facility mainly for detectives on the Vampire Ash cases.
“Officer Blaire, call Dalton Rehab to make sure Joseph clocked in.”
“Yes, Ma’am!” Blaire said, getting up and rushing to his desk to look up the number.
Muir felt his phone buzz and pulled it out desperately. An image sent from Joseph.
He opened it to see….
His bond mate was laid on a floor, blood staining his jeans around his knees, burns on his face and neck as he looked up at someone, terrified. His hands were bound behind his back, leaving his stomach so open and vulnerable and….
Muir felt sick as a text popped up next.
We will contact you soon, Officer Muir. He is alive, but he won’t be for long if you get too involved.
Muir pressed Joseph’s name without hesitation, calling whoever had Joseph’s phone to beg for some answers, but they ignored him, sending him to voicemail as the others clamored around him.
“What is it?” Granger asked, and Muir passed her his phone to let her see, closing his eyes to reach into the bond.
Granger snarled. “As if we’d let them get away with that. Muir, I’m taking this case. You know the rules.”
Muir’s stomach sank as he realized what she meant. He wouldn’t be allowed to help. He would be treated as a family member, unable to get involved themselves since he might do something irrational to get Joseph back. Still, he nodded, focused on the bond, sending comfort to Joseph that he hoped would be received.
“Muir. What do you see?” Granger asked, noticing his effort.
“I can’t…. I can’t see anything. I mean, I get the sense of concrete maybe? And- AUGH!”
Muir had been fully immersed in the bond when Joseph got hurt next. It felt like claws tearing into his skin, but the pain didn’t continue so Joseph wasn’t getting actively mauled.
“What was that, a bear?!” Muir gasped, clutching at his arm as sweat trickled down his back.
Officer Blaire was back. “He didn’t clock in at all today. They were getting ready to call you, Muir.”
“Joseph’s been kidnapped,” Granger said gruffly to Blaire, who’s jaw fell open. “Someone get the Chief! We need to get a team sorted out for this now!”
Someone took Muir’s arm as he pushed back into the bond, desperately trying to reach Joseph, but he got the sense that his bondmate was in too much shock to really hear him.
Chief Staton was soon out of her office and Granger had some officers set up in the conference room, quickly explaining the situation to the Chief. Muir didn’t see his phone, but he assumed it had been passed to someone to triangulate Joseph’s position.
He tried to relax. This would be sorted out soon.
That was until someone rushed in and he heard the words ‘Keaton Gang.’
The Keaton Gang was called that because they were the biggest gang in the City of Keaton. At least three fourths of the corrupt cops Muir had busted had been in their pockets and he had been doggedly tailing them recently, getting the sense that they were behind some of the distribution of vampire ash in the city.
This was personal.
“Looks like they haven’t made demands,” the Chief said thoughtfully. “But I think we can expect what some of those demands are going to look like. We have a couple of scouts in the gang and we’ll see what we can do to get Mr. Blackham out of there, Detective Muir, but we need to be patient and you cannot go after him yourself, do you understand?”
“I understand,” Muir breathed, getting his phone back.
“Good. You will have a partner with you at all times and you are to scry through your bond as often as you are able to get us information. We’ll get him back.”
Muir nodded. This was serious. There had been one case before of something bad happening to another officer’s loved one, and it hadn’t felt as serious as this. He could feel it from everyone around him that they knew exactly what there was to lose if they didn’t succeed. If Joseph was killed Muir would be out of commision for….
Muir didn’t want to think about it. He didn’t want to remember all of the times he caught Joseph crying at night, or just staring into space like he was listening to something far away. Someone far away. Even after they bonded and things got better, Muir could feel the space, sometimes. The hole he didn’t quite fill where someone else had been violently torn out.
But Muir had so much responsibility they couldn’t afford his mourning period. He was becoming the face of the removal of vampire ash in the city and breaking up the trafficking going on. Everyone in the room knew it.
“Make it quick,” he finally rasped, gripping his phone so tightly it left a bruise that faded just as quickly as it had been caused.

Kady's Expanse (Re)watch Blog
Episode 1.02 - "The Big Empty"
Hey all -- doing the second episode writeup quite a while after the first one I did (sorry about that giant delay but I've been quite busy recently!). This one and the ones going forward are hopefully going to be a bit shorter now that all of the table-setting is more or less out of the way.
I'm going to go ahead and limit myself to the summary and then highlight one or two of my favorite/least favorite things about each story thread. Once again, I'm intending this to be a companion rather than a comprehensive look at the show as a whole, so we're keeping spoilers light.
Strap yourselves in -- this is going to be a REALLY long summary.
------------------
Summary
We open on a very sweet scene between Holden and his girlfriend on board the Canterbury as she teaches him how to make the perfect cup of coffee. He's quickly wrenched back into reality as the crew of the shuttle Knight, the only survivors from the Cant, fight their way through the storm of debris peppering their little ship in the aftermath of the ice hauler's destruction. An infuriated Holden has to be talked down from shooting his own crew as he's forced to watch the mystery stealth ship disappear from view, gone forever after getting away with the mass murder of everyone he's ever loved.
Meanwhile on Ceres, Detective Miller has much worse problems: his water ran out in the shower and now he has dried shampoo in his undercut. Since Julie Mao's off the station, Miller can use her shower to wash out his hair and look for more clues about her disappearance while he's there, I guess. He deepfakes Julie's voice in order to hijack her Alexa and finds some scathing messages between Julie and her father Jules-Pierre, who's apparently fed up with sponsoring her racing career.
While Miller scrubs all the shampoo out of his hair, we get our actual introduction to Chrisjen Avasarala, who gets told off by Undersecretary Sadavir Errinwright for torturing that guy from the last episode. "No, Chrisjen! Bad!" he says, wagging his finger at her. "No war crimes! Put him in the tank if you want to talk to him!"
Chrisjen begrudgingly agrees and, amazingly, her prisoner is actually starting to talk now that his lungs aren't being crushed. He decides he doesn't have to tell her shit about the OPA and whatever connections they might have to Mars, which he is correct about. She says she can send him somewhere much worse than this. He says do your worst.
Back on the Knight, the crew take stock of their situation. Drifting in a leaky lifeboat with no radio, a blown airlock, and bleeding more atmosphere every second, things look sufficiently dire. Holden quickly takes charge -- the thing he hates doing, remember? -- and makes a simple calculation: no radio, no rescue, and everyone slowly suffocates to death. Since the airlock is busted and opening the door now would suck all of their oxygen into space, the crew vent the cabin, don their space suits, and Holden and Amos take a nice walk outside to fix the antenna while Naomi takes charge of the repair job inside.
Miller has finally finished his shower and links back up with Havelock to jump on a top-priority mission: some rich Earth guy's lawn is turning brown. Miller thinks it's a local gang, the Greigas, who've stolen water before but aren't usually this obvious about it. It ends up being a bunch of upstart kids selling water out of a warehouse, and Miller gets his third shower of the episode as he's drenched by a falling water barrel. He captures the lead kid, but decides to let him go after telling him to stay away from Da Akwa!
While being stranded in space is terrifying, it does give everyone onboard the Knight time to get to know each other better. Holden asks Amos what the hell is up with him and Naomi (valid question), and Amos replies by telling him that the only thing keeping him from ripping Holden's helmet off and kicking him into space is that Naomi wouldn't like it. He then calmly asks Holden to pass him a drill.
After a lot of swearing, a lot of suffocating, and a lot of kicking, the radio finally crackles to life. All they have to do now is sit around and wait to be rescued by someone who's okay with losing their on-time bonus. The irony is not lost on them.
After her failed interrogation of her OPA friend, Chrisjen tells Errinwright that she needs to move him from her Top Secret Torture Chamber to an Even More Top Secret Torture Chamber on the moon. She shares her fears that Mars is supplying the OPA with stealth tech, but Errinwright is skeptical; the cold war helps Mars more than Earth, so they have little motivation to rock the boat. She tells him to keep an eye on their weapons facilities anyway.
Later, she gets a message on her iPad that her prisoner killed himself on the way to the moonbase by denying himself an injection of medication designed to keep him alive through the hard G's he pulled during the ascent. A message to Chrisjen after she used that very same gravity to torture him earlier. As far as ways of dying go, that's pretty badass.
Back on Ceres, Miller chases down the last of his leads and goes to the dock master to try to find the Razorback, Julie's racing ship. The dock master doesn't know anything about the Razorback, but he does remember Julie fondly; he tells Miller how he saw her kick some creep's ass after he hit on her. He also tells Miller that Julie shipped out on the Scopuli, giving Miller one more key piece to the puzzle. He ends up scrolling through her Space Tinder in a definitely-not-creepy way and finds someone she matched with, which is basically what qualifies as a lead for him right now. His ex-partner (in both senses of the word) Octavia finds him and clearly thinks he might be a little too invested in this case, which she's right about.
After some tense waiting on the Knight, the crew's distress signal is picked up. Unfortunately, it's received by the big, badass pride of the Martian Navy, the MCRN Donnager. Given that the Cant was lured to the Scopuli using a Martian beacon and blown up by a ship using Martian stealth tech, Holden and company are less than enthusiastic about their rendezvous with the Mickies.
Holden flexes his home video skills with a desperate recording explaining everything they know about what happened, saying that their deaths will only confirm that Mars was responsible for the attack. He broadcasts the signal only to learn that the Martian warship's jammers were in range, leaving it unclear if anyone even heard his transmission.
As the Donnager tractors the beat-up shuttle and Martian marines cut through the hull, the crew try to make peace with their apparently impending deaths as a swarm of laser sights find their chests.
"You are prisoners of the Mars Congressional Republic. Move and you die."
-----------------
Unless it wasn't clear from the size of that summary, HOLY SHIT SO MUCH HAPPENED IN THIS EPISODE. Miller basically has two full separate story arcs, there's plenty of character moments and good tense action in the Knight crew's fight for survival, and Chrisjen's story finally gets started in earnest. There could've easily been two full episodes' worth of story here, but the pacing doesn't feel too fast, either. It's just delightfully dense. Let's dig in!
-----------------
Holden and the Knight
In any show about space, space needs to be really scary. You can say "life in space is hard and dangerous" all you want, but unless you show the audience the perils of space travel, they'll never take it as a serious threat.
This part of the episode is about establishing that threat. Most of the danger happens after the stealth ship leaves and before the Donnager arrives, when the crew is alone with nothing but the titular Big Empty to contend with. And we spent a good chunk of the last episode getting to know a bunch of characters who just got nuked, so the audience knows that no one here has plot armor (except for maybe Holden). It makes for an absolute rollercoaster of a sequence as the crew jumps from one crisis to another.
Easily my favorite scene from this episode is Holden and Amos' conversation as they're trying to fix the radio. Amos is one of the most fascinating characters in this show, and we get our first good look inside his head here. What we seem to find, initially, is that he's a sociopath, but it's more complex than that. He simply appears physically incapable of comprehending morality or ethics. It's not that he doesn't care about people; it's that he lacks the ability to think about people in anything except purely rational or practical terms.
He doesn't think that it would be "wrong" for him to kick Holden off the shuttle, just as he doesn't think it would be "right" not to, because his brain isn't wired to think about things in terms of "right" and "wrong". The reason he doesn't do it is because of Naomi's disapproval. He's aware that he doesn't have a moral compass, so his solution is to use Naomi as a barometer against which to measure right and wrong behavior.
And suddenly, so many things about him click into place: why he listens to everything Naomi tells him, his deadpan demeanor, even why he might take a job as a mechanic on an ice hauler; less of a chance of doing something wrong if you interact with other people as little as possible. Naomi being his direct superior is also a plus.
This will come up again and again as we continue to dig into Amos and as he begins to form relationships with the rest of the crew. What I love about him is that a set of less capable writers could've easily written him as a character who struggles with a lack of humanity because of his mental illness, but he's one of the most fundamentally human characters I've seen on television.
It's not even necessarily framed as a bad thing; it just makes him different from the rest of the crew and creates some fascinating relationship dynamics with Holden, Naomi, Alex, pretty much everyone he interacts with. For mental illness to be treated with this level of care and nuance is so rare on TV and it's wonderfully refreshing.
-----------------
Miller and Ceres
Remember the conversation we had last time about Julie being Miller's Dulcinea? Yeah, this is what I was talking about.
I actually want to focus more on Miller's B plot this episode, since the Julie investigation is only the focus of about three scenes that I basically covered in the summary. Before we move on though, I wanted to point out that Julie's dating profile confirms that she is canonically pansexual! It's more of an easter egg than anything, really: the only on-screen or referenced relationships she has are with men, but it's still a nice touch.
With that aside, the main thing I wanna talk about this time around is the scene with Rich Earth Guy as he's complaining to Miller and Havelock about his lawn. My favorite tiny detail in this scene is the way Miller takes a drink of water. He takes the tiniest sip out of the glass and swills it around his mouth, savoring it for as long as possible before pouring the rest of the glass carefully back into the pitcher. The opening text of "Dulcinea" told us that water is more valuable than gold in space. Miller, the only Belter in the room, treats it as such. It makes Rich Earth Guy's complaining about his lawn water seem ludicrous by comparison.
As a good leftist, I'm definitely a sucker for anything that lets me hate on a guy who's basically the space-age equivalent of an HOA board member, but this is also a great example of the absolute disdain off-worlders on Ceres have for Belters. It's not enough that Rich Earth Guy gets to live in the only part of this station that looks like utopian paradise, surrounded by beautiful green spaces and observing his kingdom from his massive balcony; no, those filthy Belters have to know he's up there. They have to appreciate him, respect him, thank him for being so generous as to use his lawn to cycle the air that they breathe.
He's not this callous with his language, of course, but you can feel the sentiment dripping from his words. And we can immediately tell that he doesn't really care that his lawn is important to the station; he just gets off on feeling important.
Havelock, to his credit, is still naïve enough to try to call Rich Earth Guy out on his bullshit. This place you live in might as well be an alien planet to Belters. And maybe if Belters weren't down in the shit fighting for their fucking lives day after day, they'd have a little more time to appreciate your lawn. Again, he's a little more subtle than that. But not by much. Rich Earth Guy hands him a cactus and tells him, politely, to fuck off.
As we're going to find out, Earth is basically run by thousands and thousands of Rich Earth Guys. And every single day, whenever the Belt reminds them that they never get to see Earth's lawn, that they're too busy breaking their backs for Earth to ever even dream of having a lawn of their own, Earth hands the Belt a cactus and tells them, with varying degrees of politeness, to fuck off.
------------------
Chrisjen and the UN
And now it's finally time to see what's got Chrisjen worried about her lawn. We still don't spend too much time with her this episode considering all the madness going on with the Knight, but we still get our introduction to Errinwright, who's going to be a key player at the UN going forward.
My favorite Chrisjen scene in this episode has to be her conversation with Errinwright after her failed interrogation of the OPA prisoner. As she's talking about shuffling her secret political prisoner between black-site interrogation facilities, Errinwright openly wonders how no one is keeping tabs on this woman. His answer is self-evident: he's appointed himself as Chrisjen's watchdog.
Their relationship appears mostly transactional: Chrisjen allows Errinwright to keep an eye on her and shares information in him in exchange for his support in the government. It's clear from the jump, however, that both of them are using the other to achieve their goals. Chrisjen's goals are clear: she wants to figure out what the hell's going on with Mars and the OPA. Errinwright's motivations remain unclear at this early stage, but it's clear that Chrisjen trusts him, at least as much as she trusts anyone.
Without spoiling very much, Errinwright's character is defined by his relationship to Chrisjen, and he helps develop Chrisjen's character in turn. The thing that becomes clear in this episode is that he and Chrisjen are so close to each other because they speak the same language and play the same game. I'm very much looking forward to seeing them play that game in future episodes.
------------------
If you're here, thank you so much, again, for bearing with me through this ludicrously long post. I'm trying so hard to work on being brief, and again, there was a ton of stuff I didn't talk about in this episode that I really, really wanted to.
Happy holidays to you all! I'll be picking up the story with "Remember the Cant" in hopefully less than a month -- sorry about that delay again. See you starside!

Innovative Opencv Projects in Robotics and Autonomous Systems
OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision) is a popular open-source library for computer vision and image processing tasks. With its extensive collection of algorithms and tools, it has become a go-to resource for developers working on robotics and autonomous systems. In recent years, there has been a surge in the use of OpenCV in these fields, resulting in some innovative projects that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible with robotics and autonomous systems.
Here are some of the most exciting and innovative OpenCV projects in robotics and autonomous systems:
1. Autonomous Navigation with Visual Odometry Visual odometry is a technique that uses visual input from cameras to estimate the position and orientation of a robot in an environment. This information can then be used for autonomous navigation. OpenCV provides a robust set of algorithms for feature detection, matching, and pose estimation, making it a perfect tool for visual odometry. One of the most notable projects using this technique is the open-source robot platform, TurtleBot. It uses two cameras and OpenCV to perform visual odometry and navigate through its surroundings autonomously.
2. Object Detection and Tracking for Autonomous Drones Autonomous drones have become increasingly popular for various applications, such as search and rescue, surveillance, and delivery. OpenCV has played a crucial role in enabling these drones to detect and track objects in their environment. The library offers a variety of algorithms for object detection and tracking, including Haar cascades, HOG, and deep learning-based methods. One such project, the OpenCV Drone, uses a Raspberry Pi and a camera to detect and track objects in real-time, allowing the drone to navigate and avoid obstacles autonomously.
3. Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) SLAM is a technique used to create a map of an unknown environment while simultaneously localizing the robot within it. OpenCV provides a range of algorithms for feature detection, matching, and 3D reconstruction, making it a valuable tool for SLAM applications. One of the most prominent projects using OpenCV for SLAM is Google's Project Tango, which uses a combination of cameras and sensors to create 3D maps of indoor environments. OpenCV plays a crucial role in feature detection and matching for this project.
4. Emotion and Gesture Recognition for Human-Robot Interaction In order for robots to interact with humans in a more natural and intuitive way, they need to be able to recognize emotions and gestures. OpenCV has a variety of tools and algorithms for facial and gesture recognition, making it a popular choice for human-robot interaction projects. One such project is the robot companion, Pepper, which uses OpenCV to recognize and respond to human emotions and gestures, enhancing its ability to communicate and interact with humans.
5. Vision-based Control for Robotic Arms Robotic arms have a wide range of applications, from manufacturing and assembly to surgical procedures. OpenCV has been used in various projects to enable vision-based control for these robotic arms. The library offers algorithms for object detection, tracking, and pose estimation, which are essential for controlling the movements of a robotic arm. One remarkable project is the OpenCV-Gripper, which uses a camera and OpenCV to detect and pick up objects of different shapes and sizes, showcasing the potential of vision-based control in robotics.
In conclusion, OpenCV has proven to be a versatile and powerful tool for robotics and autonomous systems. Its algorithms and tools have enabled developers to create innovative projects that have revolutionized these fields. With the continuous development and advancements in computer vision and artificial intelligence, we can expect to see even more impressive projects using OpenCV in the future.

Full Circle
Rating: Teen, Gen
Part 17 of Camila is Hunter's Mom Now
Chapter 1/4: Family Reunion
Hunter never planned to tell his friends about his past.
But since when has anything ever gone the way he planned?
Ao3
Drowning
Falling
Dark
Cold
Hunter’s coven sigil burned like a wildfire, piercing through the darkness with a beacon of light. It glowed on his wrist like a mini sun, shooting rays outwards.
Mine.
Mine, mine, mine.
It burned, like it had when he’d first gotten it, but the burning didn’t stop, it consumed his skin, his flesh, burning away his bone until—
Beep
Beep
Beep
Hunter rolled over in bed, smacking the alarm clock and then peering at the coven patch on his arm.
No glowing. He scratched at it absentmindedly, getting changed for school and then gently shook Vee’s shoulder. “Time to wake up.”
“No,” she grumbled, “Go ‘way.”
Hunter grabbed the blanket underneath her, bundling her up, then dumped her on the floor.
“Hey!”
“We’re gonna be late.”
Hunter scratched at his patch again—why was it so itchy today—and went downstairs, catching Camila just as she went out the door. “Have a good day at work!”
“Thanks, mijo.” She kissed the top of his head, sending a warm glow pulsing through him. “You have a good day at school.”
“Where’s Luz?” Her bunk had been suspiciously empty when he’d gone to bed last night, and if she’d gotten home after, then she’d left before she woke up.
“Apparently Amity’s parents have locked her up in her room. Luz is going to rescue her, isn’t that sweet?”
“Huh. Yeah.” Hunter kept scratching at his sigil as he wandered into the kitchen, scarfing down a bowl of cereal. Vee thumped down the stairs, grumbling, and got her own bowl of cereal.
“Hey.”
“Mrgh.”
“Do you have drama practice today?”
“Yep.” Vee stretched her hand out, resting it on Hunter’s and quelling his scratching. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, it’s just… itchy. It’s probably fine, had a weird dream about it. It’s probably… just… in… my…” A chill ran down Hunter’s spine, and he ran for the calendar. “What day is it?!”
“Oh—I don’t know—Hunter—”
Hunter gripped the counter, blood roaring in his ears. “It’s today,” he whispered.
“What? What’s today?”
“The day of—” Hunter swallowed. “The day of unity. It was supposed to be t—” his fingers curled, and he leaned his head against the wall.
“Hey.” Vee came up next to him, pressing her shoulder to his. “Belos doesn’t have titan’s blood. He doesn’t have you. Whatever his day of unity plans are… they’re shot. Done. Finished. Even if they weren’t, Luz would stop him.” She put her hand over his. “Do you need to stay home today?”
He can’t carry out his plans.
It’s impossible, we took the key from him.
Hunter took a deep breath, slowly uncurling his fingers. “No. No, I’m okay. Let’s go.”
The day of unity can’t happen.
Hunter tucked Flapjack into his school bag, still scratching at his sigil through his hoodie. Vee grabbed her own backpack, and Hunter locked the door behind them.
Xxx
Camila ran up the path to the old abandoned house. Usually she would have waited for the kids to go before leaving herself, but…
She glanced again at her phone as she stood on the porch.
Portal House Motion Detected.
Camila took out her pepper spray, slowly opening the door.
No portal. Camila walked a circle around the area, examining the motion detectors.
“What… set… you…”
She heard a rustle in the corner and whirled around to face it, holding her pepper spray out.
It was pointed at a rabbit, which squeaked when it saw her, then bounded away. Camila let out a sigh of relief, picking up the motion detectors. “Man. Guess I need to reset the sensitivity on these things, huh?”
Xxx
Thomas grabbed Hunter’s arms as he came in the school doors, staring him in the eyes. “I have. A huge problem.”
“What? Did someone toss your whole backpack on the school roof this time? I can’t climb up, my arm is still all kinds of weak from—”
“No, no, not that kind of problem. Plus, dude, last time you broke your arm, I really, really, really don’t want you climbing on the roof for my stuff again. Anyway, so, the problem is, my parents are going to be out of town. My aunt is pregnant, and they’re going to go help her with the kids while she’s giving birth and stuff, but you know, it’s the middle of the school year, so I can’t just go with them.”
“Ooookay?”
“They’re leaving me with my brother,” Thomas groaned, “I’d be better off by myself!”
“Can’t argue there,” Vee agreed, “So, what, you wanna come over to our house or something?”
“Please? Even just for a couple of days, I just don’t want to be alone with him for a whole week, I’ll go insane.”
Jade leaned one elbow on Thomas’ shoulder, coming up from the hallway. “Trying to find someone to adopt you for the week?”
Thomas heaved a sigh. “Yeah.”
“Ah, I’ll ask my parents. They might let you stay over for a few days.”
“Thanks, Jade,” Thomas mumbled gloomily, trudging with Hunter towards the chemistry classroom, “Man, you are so lucky.”
“Yes, because my siblings are the peak of normality,” Hunter remarked as they sat down.
“Yeah, but you’re equally weird.”
“Gee. Thanks.”
“In a good way, dude. Not… whatever my brother’s got going on.” Thomas sighed. “He’s just… so convinced he’s right, you know? And he won’t let it go!”
Well. He’s actually not completely wrong about there being witches.
“I don’t know, I guess I wish he’d just quit clinging to this whole…” Thomas waved his hands. “…thing… so tightly. Or at the least leave people alone instead of harassing them. He was actually fun to hang out with at one point. Now he’s just… obsessed.” Thomas polished his glasses. “Sorry. Shouldn’t dump all of that on you.”
Hunter’s nose crinkled. “You kept the fact that I broke my arm and stole my mom’s deer tranquilizer secret, I think it’s fair to dump a few frustrations.”
“Ha. Yeah, okay, when you put it like that.”
The bell rang, and Hunter turned his attention on their teacher, still scratching at his sigil.
Ugh.
Hunter glanced around the class, then pulled his sleeve up just enough to check on the sigil.
No glowing. Just angry red around the area from all of the scratching. Hunter tucked both of his hands in his lap to keep himself from scratching it more, chewing the inside of his lip.
It’s just in your head.
Just like that, the itching stopped.
Huh.
English.
Math.
Physics.
The intercom crackled on with a screech that made everyone cover their ears. “Hunter, please come to the front office.”
“Ooooooo,” Jade whispered, nudging him with a grin, “What’s up?”
Hunter shuddered. For a second, the voice had sounded like… but that was ridiculous. “I don’t know,” he whispered back, getting up and trudging through the hallways. He couldn’t think of any reason they’d be calling him up. He hadn’t gotten in any trouble. He hadn’t done anything particularly good either. Maybe Vee had gotten sick?
“Hi?” he ventured, putting his hands on the front desk, “You—”
The smell hit him just before the sight did.
Like rotting flesh, and decay.
The receptionist was slumped over her desk (a sleep spell? Or something more sinister?), and Belos was leaning against the table, dressed in clothes that looked like they’d been taken straight out of Jacob’s museum.
Hunter jerked backwards with a squeak, his heart pounding so hard he thought it might break his ribs. “Y-you can’t—”
“And here I thought you’d be pleased to see me.”
Hunter fumbled for his hoodie pocket, for Flapjack, but the familiar lump wasn’t there—put it in my backpack. He managed to grab his phone, but Belos lashed out, knocking the device from his hands.
“Let’s not.”
Hunter backed up, beelining for the door.
This isn’t happening, this is not happening, wake up, wake up, wake up!
“I wouldn’t do that.”
Belos reached to the side, yanking over…
“Hunter?”
Belos put one arm around Thomas, putting his hand on his shoulder. “Come now, Hunter. Why don’t you come along and you can introduce me to your new friend?”
Hunter’s legs wobbled, and he nearly fell on the spot. Thomas was trembling, staring at Hunter with wide, terrified eyes. Hunter’s hand went to his own shoulder. He knew that uncomfortably tight grip.
He has Thomas.
He’ll hurt him if I don’t, if I…
I can’t let him get hurt, not because of me, not again.
“Okay,” he managed in a strangled whisper while his mind screamed RUN! RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!, “Okay, I’m coming.”
Xxx
“Luz, slow down,” Amity called, “We took out the coven heads, we stopped the day of unity. It’s over.”
Luz shook her head, her feet pounding on the stone floor of the Titan’s skull. “We have to find him, he can’t get away! He’ll just start plotting again, or—or—I don’t know, activate some backup plan!” She skidded to a halt in the stonesleeper room, the portal door in pieces. “Where is he?!”
She paced around, looking for a footprint, anything that would tell her where Phillip had gone. “He can’t have opened the door, he didn’t have… any… titan’s…” She spotted a single brown glove on the floor, and she scooped it up. Part of it was ripped away, but she could still recognize it.
“Luz?” Willow asked softly, coming up behind her, “What is it?”
Luz’s hands trembled, clutching the glove tightly. “It’s Hunter’s,” she said in a strangled whisper.
“What?! But how would he be here? He’s in the human realm with your mom, right?!”
“Belos took—he was worried about—but we thought it would be okay, we thought Belos wouldn’t use it without a way to get back, we—” Luz’s legs wobbled and gave back, sending her crashing to her knees. “We told him it would be okay,” she whispered.
Amity knelt down next to her. “What is it?!”
“It had titan’s blood on it,” Kikimora’s voice echoed from the side. She glared at them from the corner, rubbing her wrist. “Belos confiscated it from him when he ran away. He used the titan’s blood to activate the portal and then… disappeared.”
“We said it would be okay, we told him not to worry!” Luz burst out, “We thought—I thought—but now he’s there, he’s in the human realm, and—and—I have to warn Hunter!” She bounded to her feet. “Amity, we have to fly there as fast as we can—or maybe Eda can—we have to get there!”
Amity steadied her. “Luz, don’t you have the key? Can’t you just summon our door?”
“No, I left it behind at your house because I didn’t want Belos to be able to get it from me when we came here! I didn’t think about—” Luz ran a hand through her hair. “Let’s go!”
Before we’re too late.

“Oh, hey, can you take Hunter’s stuff home for him?”
Vee blinked at Jade. “What?”
“He got called down to the office, he never came back for his stuff. I put his bag in his locker, I just assumed he had to go to a doctor’s appointment or something.”
“Not that I know of.” Vee shrugged. “He wasn’t feeling well earlier. Maybe he went home sick.” Bit off more than he could chew, I guess. At least he went home. Not like him to leave his stuff, though.
She followed Jade to his locker, frowning as she heard a banging from inside. “That’s weird, what—”
Jade shook her head, frowning. “I don’t know.” She opened the locker, immediately jumping back, and a bullet of red feathers shot out, twittering and shrieking.
Vee caught the tiny palisman, cupping it gently in her hands. “Flapjack?!”
“How did a living cardinal-?” Jade yelped.
Vee’s heart sank down to her feet. “Something’s wrong,” she whispered. No matter how anxious he was feeling, there was no way Hunter would leave Flapjack behind. She set Flapjack on her shoulder. “I gotta get home. I gotta—I’m sorry, I’ve got to go.”
She bolted for the door, dashing across campus and across the street, not even waiting for the walk signal. It wasn’t until she was halfway home that she realized Jade was on her heels. “Jade, go to drama, go—”
“Is Hunter in trouble?”
“Yes—Maybe—I don’t know, but you should go back.”
Jade shook her head, following Vee all the way back to her house. Vee slammed the door open. “HUNTER?!” she yelled, “HUNTER, ARE YOU HOME?! LUZ?!” She tore through the house, checking every room. “HUNTER?!”
“Oh, hi, Ms. Noceda,” she heard Jade saying from downstairs, “You didn’t happen to pick Hunter up from school early, did you?”
Vee tore down the stairs. “Hunter’s missing,” she said in a rush. Flapjack was frantically chirping as well, as if trying to reiterate the point, “He left—when did he leave?!”
“They called him down to the office at the beginning of fourth.”
“And he never came back, and he’s not here, Mom, and he left Flapjack, and—”
“Left Flapjack?” Jade echoed.
Camila nodded, her jaw set in a steel line. “I’m going to check the old house. Vee, stay here in case he comes back. Jade, could you call the shelter, just in case he went there?”
“On it.”
Camila put a hand on Vee’s shoulder. “We’re going to find him,” she promised.
And then she was out the door.
Jade went to the other room, talking for a minute, thanking the person on the other end of the line, then coming back, shaking her head. “He’s not there.”
“Yeah,” Vee said softly, “I figured.”
Jade rubbed her arms. “Vee?”
“Yeah?”
“It’s his uncle, isn’t it.”
The mention made a chill run down Vee’s spine. “We—we don’t know that. I—” How do I explain that there isn’t really much of a way for him to get here because he’s trapped in another dimension?
“But… it might be?”
If today’s the day of unity… it would have been today if any day.
“Yeah,” Vee replied softly, tugging on her hoodie, “It might be.”
Xxx
Camila raced up the path.
Hunter’s missing, Hunter’s missing, Hunter’s missing.
What if the motion detected this morning had been…?
No. No, that was… she’d been there almost immediately after the alarm had gone off.
But still…
Camila slammed the door open.
No portal.
Nothing had been disturbed with the motion detectors.
“Hunter?” she called, pushing further in, “Hunter, mijo, are you in here?”
She heard a thump, and she creaked her way up the stairs, pushing open doors. “Hunter?”
Nothing.
Camila went back down the stairs, heading back towards her house.
Please have come home.
But she knew that he hadn’t. “Anything?” she asked the two girls.
They shook their heads.
“Okay. Jade, thank you, but I think you should go home now. I’ll let you know if we find him.”
Jade shook her head. “I want to help. He’s my friend, and if he’s in danger, or—I want to help him. Even if it’s his uncle. Especially if it’s his uncle.”
“Jade, I appreciate it, I do, but there’s just… it’s complicated.”
Jade’s fists clenched. “I know there’s something weird about Hunter,” she announced.
“What?”
“I know…” Jade ran a hand through her hair, getting it stuck and clutching her curls. “I’m not stupid, okay?! I know… I know he’s not normal. I know he’s not actually from New York. I know he’s got a weird tattoo on his arm, I saw it when he was washing the dog. I know that when I put his bag in his locker, there was probably a wooden cardinal that Thomas has seen poking out before, and when I got back in the afternoon, there was a live cardinal in his locker, and I don’t—I can’t even START to explain that one without thinking maybe I’ve gone bannanas, but I know the two are connected, and—he doesn’t even look normal, I’ve never met anyone with those ears or that eye color!”
She looked up at Camila with big brown eyes. “I’m not… I notice all of that, I see it, and I’m purposely ignoring it, I’m not putting it together because I know he doesn’t want to talk about it, but I know there’s something off about him, okay? So whatever it is about this disappearance that you think is going to scare me off… it won’t. I want to help. Please let me help.”
Camila sighed. “Oh, Jade, I…”
She was saved from having to think of an answer by a knock on the door. She almost immediately threw it open.
“Hunter?!”
“Uh—nope.” Jacob Hopkins winced. “Uh… hello again.”
“YOU!” Camila reached into her purse for her shoe. “It was you wasn’t it?! If you’ve hurt one hair on Hunter’s head—”
“Wha- What?! Calm down, I’m not here to—look, I just wanted to ask if Thomas was here.”
“What?”
“Guess not.” Jacob sighed. “He wasn’t there when I went to pick him up, and I know he wasn’t ecstatic about spending the week with me, so I figured I’d check with his friend, see if he decided to have a sleepover without telling me, but, uh… he’s obviously not here.” He blinked. “Wait, did something happen to his buddy?”
“Thomas is missing?” Camila echoed.
“Huh. Maaaaaybeeeee they’re just playing hooky?”
“Hunter wouldn’t.”
Jacob drooped. “Yeah, Thomas wouldn’t either. If your freak kid has hurt my little brother—”
“My children aren’t freaks,” Camila snapped, “and Hunter would never hurt Thomas.” Well. Not again. I think. She groaned. “I guess… ugh. Look, if—when we find him—”
Jacob pointed behind her. “Mayyyyyybe he went through there? Just a thought.”
Camila whirled around to see Luz’s portal door opening up. Jade was staring at it, jaw practically dropped to the ground.
“Okay,” Hunter’s friend squeaked, “So the cardinal in the locker theory is no longer looking so bananas.”
Luz stumbled through the portal. “Mom!”
“Mija! Mija, we—”
“Mom, where’s Hunter? Something just…” Luz searched her face, eyes flicking back and forth. “Oh. Oh no. No, no, no! I’m too late.”
“Luz. Tell me what’s going on.”
“It’s Belos, Mom. He got through, he used Hunter’s glove, I don’t think he was ever planning on going back to the Isles. He’s here.”
Camila sagged, struggling to breathe. “And he has Hunter and Thomas,” she whispered.

So I've been rewatching early seasons of another fav Greys Anatomy. Not sure if your familiar but there is a scene in the first season where Meredith tells Derek to stop looking at her like he's seen her naked. I know completely different show and I don't think Sonny is a ONS kinda guy. But what if he did? ADA Carisi has this one night stand after meeting her at a bar. Tought day in court, catch each others eye etc etc. They didn't know what each other did for a living. Turns out the reader/his ONS is a new Detective with SVU and is taken to meet the ADA to get a warrant. Queue most awkward introduction ever..... and a whole heap of blushing.
Your eyes searched the crowd for your friend. It was supposed to be one last hoorah for both of you. She was starting at a law firm tomorrow, and you were transferring to Manhattan SVU.
As you were scanning the crowd, you locked eyes with an absolutely gorgeous man. He was wearing a nice suit. He had his shirt sleeves rolled up, and his tie was loose around his neck. Thick salt and pepper hair was in a perfect coif, and even from this distance, you knew he had beautiful blue eyes. And he was tall and slender.
He smiled at you, revealing dimples and crinkles at the corner of his eyes.
You smiled back and mouthed, ‘hi.’
He mouthed back ‘hi’ and then winked.
“Hey, darling’,” a man from behind you slurred. You could feel his hot breath on your neck. The stench of beer and cigarettes made you want to vomit.
Instead of acknowledging his advance, you pretended you didn’t hear him. Then drunk, then put a hand on your shoulder, making you stiffen. Finally, you shrugged him off, only to have him put his hand back on you. “Leave me alone,” you warned through clenched teeth.
“Or what?” he said. “What is little thing like you going-?”
You grabbed his hand, twisted it, and pinned it to the bar.
“You’re going to break my hand!” he wailed. “Please let go!”
“Next time, ask permission to touch someone and take no for an answer. Got it?”
He nodded. “Y-yes, ma’am,” he stuttered.
“Good. Get out of here,” you admonished, releasing the man’s hand.
There was a chorus of applause as the man retreated out the front door.
“That was impressive,” a voice beside you said.
When you looked up, it was the man from across the bar. And he was indeed tall. You felt your mouth go dry. This man was even more handsome in close-up.
“Thanks,” you responded.
“I’m Sonny,” he said, offering his hand to shake.
“Y/N,” you replied, shaking his hand.
He smiled that gorgeous smile. “I came over to rescue the damsel in distress, but it doesn’t look like you need to be saved.”
You smiled back. “How about I buy you a drink just for trying to help?”
“I can’t do that. Let me buy,” he said, raising his hand to get the bartender's attention.
You raised one brow. “Don’t argue. You’ve seen what I’m capable of,” you teased.
He held his hands up in surrender. “Fine. But I’m getting next round.”
“So, are you waiting for someone?” Sonny asked after the bartender sat a beer on the counter in front of each of you.
“Supposed to be meeting a friend, but it looks like she isn’t showing,” you answered with a shrug of your shoulders. “What about you?”
Sonny took a swig of beer. “Bad day at work.” He gave you a sad smile.
One more round turned into one more round. Sonny was a good conversationalist. He was engaging, polite, and intelligent. You could sit and talk to him for hours.
Sonny said something to make you laugh, and you put your hand on his upper arm. His eyes locked with yours. He brushed a lock of hair from your face and tucked it behind your ear.
Sonny’s fingers brushed your skin, sending a shiver through you. “You wanna get out of here?”
Sonny licked his lips. “Yes.”
Thirty minutes later, you were inside Sonny’s apartment but just barely. He had you pressed against the back of the door, his lips on yours before kissing down your neck, and his hands on your body. Sonny felt so good. It had been too long since someone touched you like Sonny was right now.
Sonny pulled away from you. “Are you sure about this? Being with me tonight.”
“I’ve never been more sure about anything,” you breathed. “What about you?”
He smiled. “Absolutely. I’ve just never had a, uh, a… I’ve never taken anyone home..” Sonny’s cheeks pinked slightly.
“Me either,” you said, feeling your skin flush.
He ran the back of one finger down your cheek. “You’re so beautiful.”
You were in so much trouble.
The next morning came too early. While you didn’t get drunk, you had just enough alcohol to earn yourself a headache and the most severe case of cotton mouth you ever had.
You slide your body out of Sonny’s arms to find your clothes. The soft light coming through the window illuminated Sonny’s face. His brow furrowed, and he reached out to your side of the bed. He mumbled something and then turned over. You will have just enough time to get home, shower, and make it to your first day at your new precinct if you hurry.
Taking a deep breath, you exited the elevator. The 16th precinct was the sleekest department you had seen so far. It would be nice to be in a building where the ceiling didn’t leak, the paint wasn’t peeling, and there was no stained carpet. Manhattan, for sure, was the prime location.
“Y/N?” a woman asked you. “Olivia Benton,” she said, extending her hand and giving you a warm smile. “Welcome to Manhattan SVU.”
“Thank you. Happy to be here,” you replied, shaking her hand.
“Not as happy as we are. We are stretching ourselves thin. Besides, I’ve heard nothing but great things from your previous captains, and William Dodds sang your praises,” she informed you.
“I hope you don’t hold William, I mean Deputy Chief Dodds, against me,” you joked.
Olivia chuckled. “Not at all. You know the family well?”
“Yeah. Our families are old friends. William is my Godfather,” you stated.
Olivia raised her brows. You knew what she was thinking: nepotism. That was far from the truth.
“Listen, I worked hard to get where I am. Knowing Deputy-” you started.
Olivia held up her hand. “I have no doubt. I’ve seen your arrest record and commendations. That only comes with hard work and dedication.”
“Thanks.”
“Let me show you around and introduce you to everyone,” she said.
After meeting everyone, you got settled in at your desk. You were setting up your voicemail when Olivia came out from her office.
“Fin. Need you to go to Carisi’s office to check on that arrest warrant. Take Y/N with you so she can meet him,” she instructed.
“Got it. Looks like you’re with me. Just so you know, I always drive,” Fin said, grinning.
“Understood, sarge,” you replied with a smile.
The drive to 1PP was short, even with New York traffic. Fin scanned a parking pass, waited for the gate to lift then pulled into a spot. You climbed the steps together. After getting through the metal detector, you walked down the long hall to a bank of elevators and took it to the 4th floor.
Upon reaching ADA Carisi's office, you heard a familiar voice drift from behind the slightly ajar door.
“Come in!” Carisi called when Fin knocked on the door.
“Carisi. This is our new detective Y/F/N Y/L/N,” Fin said. “Y/L/N, this is ADA Dominick Carisi.”
Your jaw dropped when you saw Sonny standing in front of you.
Sonny’s brows shot up. Both of you just stood there staring at one another.
“Hello,” Fin said, waving a hand between the two of you.
“Uh, yeah, sorry. Good to meet you. You can call me Sonny,” he said offering his hand to shake.
You blinked several times before getting your bearings. “Nice to meet you too,” you replied, shaking his hand. When he touched you, memories from the night before came flooding back. His touch was gentle and soft, and his lips on your skin were like licks of fire.
“Y/L/N?” Fin said.
“Huh?” you answered, pulling your hand from Sonny’s.
“I’m heading back to the precinct. Stay here so you can go to arraignments with Sonny this morning,” Fin informed you. “I’ll pick you up later this afternoon.”
“I can give her a ride back,” Sonny offered. I need to talk to Liv about a case.”
“Alright,” Fin said.
After Fin left, you turned to Sonny, finding him staring at you. “Stop looking at me like you’ve seen me naked,” you hissed.
“Sorry,” Sonny smirked. “But you have to stop looking at me like you saw me naked too.”
You tore your gaze away from Sonny feeling your cheeks heat. “Sorry.”
“You snuck out this morning. I was going to make breakfast,” he said.
“Had to get to work—first day. Wanted to make a good impression,” you grinned.
Sonny grinned back. “You made quite an impression last night. I have the marks on my back to prove it,” Sonny affirmed.
“I can’t believe the only one stand I have, and it’s with my boss,” you mused.
Sonny shrugged. “I’m technically not your boss,” he stated.
“True.”
Sonny took your hand. “Listen. I like you. Could I take you out to dinner tonight? 7 pm?”
The heat of Sonny’s touch was felt through your whole body. You entwined your fingers with his. “I’d like that.”
“Great. Then it’s a date,” Sonny said.

So Incredibly Divorced Sara/Talia is spectacular and I love the idea of Jay and Damian trying to make them talk to each other by doing dumb shit. I feel like Jon will go along with the parent trap schemes but ONLY when he wants to cause a mental breakdown for Bruce. At first it's just because he's occasionally a petty bastard about Batman disparaging his boyfriend, pretty soon he's timing both his encouragement of the parent trap shenanigans and the subsequent plans so that Bruce is sobbing into a gallon of ice cream right about when one of the Supers is doing some stupid but not deadly shit he'd inevitably be an asshole about (usually any form of having fun in costume. Bruce is a paranoid bastard and they love him anyway but dont necessarily want to deal with it). Jay and Damian are both fully aware Jon is doing this but it actually took them long enough to catch onto it that they're both impressed and mildly unnerved.
Jay keeps the parent trap scheme up out of one part morbid fascination- seriously it's like watching a slow motion train wreck you can't look away- one part vested interest in keeping Talia invested in Parousia-Gamorra, and one part the only time his mom isn't stressing about politics and carrying her whole fucking country on her back is when she's stressing about him or yelling at/about Talia. Their admittedly rare family nights are ones he treasures but theyre not frequent enough, so he peppers in Talia Times whenever Sara needs a break from politics but refuses to take one because neither of them know when or how to quit. He thinks it's probably not the most healthy way to get her a fifteen minute break every so often but it is pretty much the only option that both reliably works and is reliably available.
Damian is doing this for three reasons as well: the first is pure petty revenge on his mother for continually sending her agents to test his reflexes. None of Talia's arguments about Al Ghul composure work for shit anymore because he's seen her cursing at Sara Nakamura in Arabic with mascara tears streaming down her cheeks. Damian is enjoying this immensely and Talia's willing to put up with it in exchange for video of the mental breakdown it induces in Bruce. His second reason is because he thinks Jay's cool and it's the easiest way to find out what he should throw his dad's money and his family's detective skills at next to help out. A rare breath of enjoyable company and a chance to piss off Waller? Sign him up. Reason number three is so that he can monitor the Supers during whatever time Jon suggests they line the dominoes up for just to make sure nothing actually bad happens.
Sara and Talia cannot go five minutes in the same room without an argument. The one time they managed it was when someone got clever and managed to capture both of their sons using Kryptonite poisoned Jon as bait. They rescued Superman, Gossamer, and Robin with terrifying speed and efficiency and they worked together like an absolute dream and by mutual silent agreement they will NEVER speak of it again (contemplative longing glances aren't words they don't count).
(I wonder what Sara thinks of the Superfam's pretty much nonreaction to Jon being extremely fucked up. I wonder what she thinks of Clark leaving Jon with his mantle when he did. I don't think she'd find out until he and Jay had been dating for a while but I wonder.)
Sfjshhgfkl I saw the Sara/Talia anon and I'm losing my shit over potential stepbrothers Jay and Damian. I think for maximum comedy we should have Damian who is perfectly aware that his mother is beautiful because that's really just a factual matter and a weapon in her arsenal, and Jay who firmly believes his mom is awesome but has NO CLUE everyone thinks she's a MILF. He's one of those kids who goes 'what the hell do you mean my mom is hot' and then Jon, who has lived his entire life dealing with how badly so many people want to fuck one or both of his parents, has to pull his boyfriend aside and be like 'listen there is no good or kind way to inflict this kind of psychic damage but the internet found your mom's yearbook photos and now NakaMILFra is trending on twitter'. Jay discovers four new stages of grief on the spot. Then someone posts an old photo of Sara and Talia in their carefree and rebellious youth. Damian and Jay immediately call each other to scream DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS. They have no idea what the hell they're supposed to do with this information. Jay calls his mom because what the HELL and he's treated to a forty minute lecture about ways he can avoid Sara's mistakes with Talia being made with him and Jon (she adds that if Jon decides to dump Jay for a guy who's emotional constipation is so bad not even being that rich and that hot can make up for it, she'll key Jon's car for him. Apparently the possibility of angry Kryptonian has nothing on the knife throwing reality of angry Talia.) Jay has no idea what to do with any of the advice he's just received. Damian is now weighing his options on which couple to parent trap and he picks Sara/Talia for several truly logical reasons and the fact that Parousia-Gamorra has lots of really cool animals. He is nearly cheerful when he informs Jon of this, via Kryptonian hearing because Jay unplugged their router seconds after checking his socials. Jay has since been sitting on the kitchen floor, staring into a jar of Nutella like it's capable of producing the means to his salvation. Jon figures that Jay could probably do far worse step-mom wise than Talia purely because Talia will ensure that any attempts to call or carry out a hit on the Nakamuras end up dead in a ditch and Jon would like the reassurance that even when he's off planet someone is there to make the CIA cry. Of course she'll want to send her own agents to test Jay's reflexes probably but Jon's pretty sure Sara can talk her out of that. Talia being preoccupied ensuring her wife's country stays a free democracy and nobody succeeds in assassinating her wife or her stepson is by far the best plan anyone's come up with to keep Talia too occupied to be a supervillain and they all know it. Jon is torn between hating that this plan succeeding will make Jay a proxy member of the Batfamily, or preemptively buying popcorn because when Bruce tries to pull his emotionally incompetent helicopter parent bullshit Jay is going to make that man's life a living hell for as long as it takes him to realize that was a bad idea. Jay doesn't even find out about this plan until Damian has successfully tricked Saralia into a date and Damian throws Jon under the bus immediately. Jay is furious with Jon for not telling him ('you were barely past the psychic damage from twitter' is some bold hypocrisy from the guy who's going to end up paying off his therapist's mortgage) for about three days before Jon sits him down and lists the flat out pros and cons of this plan succeeding. 'Saralia cannot possibly be WORSE for each other than Brutalia' is on both lists. 'No dictator will be able to set up shop' is a compelling argument but what actually sells Jay on the whole thing is the knowledge that sleeping with Talia Al Ghul is going to be as strong a hitman deterrent for his mom as sleeping with a Kryptonian is for him. Bruce finds out about the plan several months after the three of them start working together and Jon gleefully sends him to voicemail every time he calls.
GOD PLEASE I DIDNT EVEN THINK ABOUT BRUCE. HE'D LOSE HIS FUCKING MIND. I do think the logical conclusion to this 'yes and' is like, Damian and Jon try and parent trap them, not realizing that like. This was no ordinary breakup. This was a TOXIC SAPPHICS IN THE LATE 80S breakup. Full Good Luck Babe by Chappell Roan. They act like they're DIVORCED. Jayjon and Damian are watching the date they set the two of them up on as a surprise like ;O_O
Its a mess. But more confusingly for the boys, like, Sara and Talia clearly still care a LOT about eachother, like Talia's showing up to defend Sara from western interference and Sara's lending her her top secret intel, but they WILL. NOT. GET. ALONG. Its an ACTIVE REFUSAL to let go of what happened in their past and move on from it. They'll be mid-fight with one of Waller's task forces and Sara will be like "REMEMBER THAT TIME YOU LEFT ME FOR A WHITE MAN?!" Sara's ranting to Jay when she gets home from their date that she CANT BELIEVE talia hasn't changed WHATSOEVER with her DUMB LONG HAIR and her BEAUTIFUL JASMINE PERFUME and Jay is just like
"Uhuh. Uhuh. Sure mom."
This is all extra funny if you consider the fact Damian canonically admires Jay's works and respects his opinion a lot. On the one hand, oh god he doesn't wanna think about his mom's love life. On the other.... an excuse to spend more time with Jay woooooo
I don't know if Sara and Talia would ever formally get back together again since I believe in my soul the both of them are too caught up in the torn and abandoned people they've become (since in this hypothetical, Sara's lost Jay's other mother, her late wife, and.... Talia's everything) but I think every once and awhile they share a cigarette on a rooftop after some shit goes down all lesbian-ly and theres this moment where they Wonder. They're each other's "one who got away" and they refuse to consider the alternative where they might've been happy.
Doesn't stop Jay and Damian from TRYING to make their moms talk to each other! Their biggest strategy is forcing the two women to coparent them by doing something extremely stupid

Lost In Your Current (P.1)
Title: Lost In Your Current (Part One) Summary: Fem!Reader x Dark!Tony Stark. After the snap, the team realizes that certain males were given Alpha status and certain females were assigned as Omegas, all across the galaxy, as a way to control procreation. Only Omega can give birth now. Both are marked and their DNA is tied through their marks. Tony lost Pepper and fell into depression after being rescued by Carol. Even the information that he could have happiness again could not pull him out. Until the loneliness and his new Alpha gene got to be too much. When Steve contacts him that his Omega had been found, Tony cannot resist to collect her. Words: 2,033 Warnings (for the whole fic): Dub-con, a/b/o elements, smut, forced mating
Part Two || Masterpost (mobile) || Fanfic masterpost
After he had been brought back from space and found Pepper gone, Tony had been devastated. He isolated himself despite the remaining Avengers efforts. He only let them know he was alive and was reviving himself from being starved and dehydrated in space. When he had received the intel that in the snap, males were given mates, an Alpha and Omega pairing, he had rejected the idea at first, ignoring the small A that had engrained itself on the web of his hand between his forefinger and thumb. But as time waned on, he found himself empty and even admitting that to Rhodes opened up the conversation again about finding his Omega. Rhodes was convinced Tony would find healing in that connection. Thanos had done it to set couples, control procreation. No out of wedlock. There would not be another overpopulation problem. Only Omega were able to breed now. In any corner of the galaxy, it seemed.
Somehow despite his isolation, Tony had gotten word an Omega had been captured and her imprinting mark, an outline on her gland yet to be penetrated, matched his DNA. It was not a surprise to Natasha considering his incessant need for information and adept ability to hack practically any system.
Or maybe it was because Steve had told him. That’s what Tony divulged to her upon his arrival.
“I did not tell you yet for a reason,” Natasha told him.
They were standing in the observation room. Like many Omega after the snap, she had gone into hiding as soon as the information was out, and she had noticed the mark on her neck. People were not keen on being forced into submission and this situation was no different. Quickly, a drug had been developed and distributed. Still, the Omega had stayed in hiding, still fearful they could be detected despite the suppressants.
“Yeah, I’m used to you not telling people things,” Tony told her coldly. “You learned that from Fury well enough.”
Natasha swallowed his insult, knowing he was getting himself riled up just at the sight of her. She needed to be delicate about this. She had planned on telling him and inviting him to the compound but she had wanted to give Y/N time, get her as calm as possible to meet her Alpha. Steve had ruined that. So, she had to just go ahead now that Tony was here, ready to pounce. He had held off for so long, but the loneliness and loss had gotten to him. Or the drive to find himself buried in his Omega had sunk in; hormones were a bitch.
“She’s been on the suppressants. It may take a while for her to feel her heat,” Natasha told him.
“’A while’? How long has she been off them?”
“We’ve had her in here a few days. But a week at least.”
Tony growled and turned away from her. His eyes found Y/N again on the other side of the glass, watching her meander in the room serving as her cell to keep her safe. “She’s so close! A few days at best!”
Tony could already see it, smell it. It did not matter there was a wall separating, she was coming in through the circulation. And she already smelled deserving of his veneration.
Natasha inhaled sharply and took a step towards him. Firmly, she asked, “Do you need to leave, Tony?”
“No!” he spat, shooting her a threatening glare. He was just daring her to try to force him to leave.
As if he would let his prize out of his sight. He had been lost the moment he had laid eyes on her, smelled her sweet scent of sea breeze and jasmine.
Natasha would threaten him in return. She was not afraid of him, unlike most people. She was firm when she told him, “I won’t allow you to mate an Omega without their consent. She won’t realize she’s in heat yet. You need to wait until next cycle. Even if it is your soulmate and you think it’s for the best. And by think, I use it lightly cause I can see your fingers are white with how hard you are trying to hold onto that ledge to keep a grip on control.”
Tony snorted impatiently. Next cycle? Fuck that. He had been stuck in space and been screwed over by Thanos. He lost Pepper. He deserved this. He deserved her, he deserved this new start. He had gotten himself healthy again. And why not for this?
His Alpha was rearing its head; he had his soulmate so close, and he was so convinced he could trip her into heat early.
His eyes were fixated on his mate on the other side of the glass. She was moving around unbeknownst that he could see her, that he was watching her. His cock was tight against his jeans, and he adjusted, shooting a glance at Natasha who did not miss the movement.
He paced more, keeping his eyes set on her. She licked her lips, her hands wringing together as she sat down on the bench at the window she was allowed. She would have so much to look at when she was at his house. He had moved north, bought a large house settled in the mountains. So much space for her to wander, under his direction of course. He could not risk losing her either. But he wanted her happy. Only if happy meant she was with him though. He would not settle for anything less. He would force that mating bond on her if that is what it took to ensure she would warm his bed.
Out of Tony’s sight, Natasha cocked her head towards the door and Carol followed her. They thought Tony did not even notice them leave. Not that that was unexpected considering how zoned in he was.
Outside the room, door closed behind them, Natasha told her, “I’m gonna kill Steve. She needed a week—”
“Steve is just as meat headed as Tony. As little of time I’ve known him, I’ve realized that I’m not shocked he gave him the tip. He has been pretty happy with his mate that he found. I thought someone as virtuous as Captain America would have at least given the situation a second though, but…”
“Hormones are not a joke,” Natasha murmured. She swore and said exasperated, “Tony is not going to leave that fucking room without an armed guard dragging him out.”
Carol shrugged. “Then leave him in there! Let him watch her and keep the eye out he thinks he needs to. As long as he doesn’t break the glass—"
“He’s on edge already, Carol. If he sees anyone enter that room — even IF they’re beta, which is the only people I will send in there now regardless — he could lose it. Send himself into a rut. But she needs testing still and food. She has to interact with our doctors.”
<><><>
Tony had certainly noticed them leave though. And he smirked as soon as the door closed. Idiots.
Waiting for the door to close after Carol and Natasha stepped outside the room, Tony hit his watch.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y…. Hit the ventilation. Knock them out outside the room I am in and hers.”
<><><>
Tony stepped over Natasha and Carol slumped on the ground and then over the guards in the hallway. He held up his watch to the keypad and F.R.I.D.A.Y unlocked the door, giving him access. He shivered physically smelling Y/N full on, her wafting out to him as he pushed the door open. The room was penetrated with her and it was intoxication. The alcohol had done nothing for him since he had returned, no amount of money spent, no amount of women he had taken to his bed. But he actually felt something when he stepped into the room.
She turned away from the window, eyes wide and curious. He made sure to close the door behind him, a barrier to her escaping. He had read in the information he had been given all those months ago that Omega were unruly when they were not claimed yet and the thought made him growl internally. If she tried to run from him… his Alpha was furious at the thought, ready to pin her.
The two of them stared at each other and he could hear her heart beating faster, reacting to him. Natasha was right; she was not ready quite yet but just being in his presence was having an impact. Yes, he could trip her if he got her home, immersed her in his environment. If he was all she could see.
His eyes raked over her and he said, “Well, they certainly don’t know how to dress you all here.”
She looked down at her loose gown and then flicked her gaze back up to his, looking embarrassed. “I’m sorry…”
She was delectable. Submissive. She already wanted to please him, and she had not been properly introduced to him yet. Tony felt his cock hardening. If only he could take her here and now. But he needed to drive her home. He tried to fight the hormones trying to hijack his psyche.
“No, sweet one, don’t apologize. You still look lovely. You’re so fertile….. look at you. Dripping.”
<><><>
You perked up at the compliment. The multiple compliments. You were doing good. Weren’t you? On many levels. Fertile. And wet.
Wait, wait?
He came closer. Still looking entirely in the brink of losing it but he smelled good. He smelled like home.
And that instantly set you on edge, a clear thought cutting through your arousal.
No.
It was him. The Alpha you had been assigned to. And Jesus. It was Tony fucking Stark. Why else would he have this effect on you? Natasha had promised to speak to you and let you decide as you weaned off the suppressants. She had lied and now you were being thrown to the wolves. And no wonder. Tony was her friend. Why would she deny him anything?
You stood quickly and your back hit the wall. You were closing in on yourself, trying to be small. He bristled at your squirrely movement and cocked his head. He immediately placed himself between you and the door to prevent you leaving, holding up his hand. Your heart was hammering.
He was here. He was here to take you away, lock you away.
“You don’t have to be afraid…” Tony said, his voice rolling over you like a high. It was sugary, sweet. “You are safe with me, sweet one.”
Safe. Yes. He would protect you.
You shook your head, closing your eyes tight, trying to shake his influence. Safe meant under his thumb.
Tony was closing the space quickly and you cowered. He was stronger than you and would undoubtedly win a fight.
“Omega…” he said, the title falling from his lips like a song. You froze and he took a few more steps. He shivered, seeing your response. “Be good. You don’t have to be trapped in here anymore. This room is so small, confining. You can come with me… up to our cabin.” Our, the word usage was not lost on you. “There’s a lake. Space to wander. You will have freedom there. With me.”
Half of you was screaming to listen to him, go to him, obey. The other half was screaming at you to try to duck around him and find an escape to make sure you would not fully come off the suppressants and be his puppet, his breeding machine.
Tony was there, inches between you and your chest pulled towards him, wanting him to touch you. He noticed the movement, hunger swimming in his eyes, pupils blown wide.
“That’s it, Omega. Be good.”
A soft whine left your lips, embarrassingly, at the command to be good.
Yet, another thought flashed. This was not right. And your eyes hardened. His jaw clenched at the sight, and you knew you were in trouble. Before you could react, he brought his hand up, and all you felt was cold metal against your neck before you saw black.

all that and the stars
summary
“Did you smoke weed or turn into a therapist?” asks Tony.
Suddenly serious, Peter sits up, and blinks, his brown hair falling into his not-so-innocent eyes. “I didn’t smoke. I am not high.”
“Peter, my entire kitchen is wrecked. I saw the spray cheese.”
OR
Peter gets high and becomes very deep and philosophical, and Tony is there for it.
It’s 2:15 in the morning when the smoke alarm blasts Tony out from a blissfully deep sleep.
His eyes snap open.
“What the fuck,” he mutters, and rolls over to see Pepper watching him with annoyance radiating off her.
“Please go take care of it,” she tells him.
“Fine, fine,” says Tony, slipping away from the warmth of his comforter and putting his feet on the cold, hardwood floor. “But if it’s actually a fire this time I’m not coming back up. I’m just sending a suit.”
“No fire detected, boss,” says Friday, without Tony even needing to ask plainly. “It seems that Peter left his pizza in the oven too long.”
“Alarm off,” says Pepper. The ringing stops, and she buries her head into her pillow. “He’s a menace.”
“A dead one,” promises Tony.
He’s rubbing sleep-gunk from his eyes as he wanders into his smokey kitchen. It smells like burnt cheese, and it only gets worse after Tony finds the oven mitts, slips them on, and rescues the pizza from the oven. There isn’t much of it left to be rescued if he’s telling the truth. It’s a shade of brown that makes it unrecognizable as food, even.
Tony lets out a deep sigh, and opens a window, letting the smoke drift out into the summer night.
As the smoke thins out, he looks around for his dumbass spider-child, but he’s nowhere to be seen, even after he looks up and thoroughly checks the ceiling, his usual hiding place. Only traces of him are left behind.
His freezer’s door has been left open. Tony shuts it, just as he notices the half empty container of cookie dough ice cream sitting on the counter with a spoon stuck in it. Candy wrappers litter the floor, and an opened bag of gummy bears sits next to an explosion of cheese puffs.
It’s the puffs that bring Tony to the conclusion that a crime has been committed here, and when Tony spots the can of spray cheese, it’s only further evidence.
Peter’s been smoking the good stuff.
Too much of the good stuff, and Tony needs to find him, make sure he’s safe and tucked into bed, before he’s reunited with his cozy covers.
Lucky for him there’s a trail of cheese puffs leading towards the backdoor, so he’s at least got a good place to start. He slips Pepper’s flip-flops on, and steps outside. Summer air greets him with a fresh breeze. It’s still hot, for being in the middle of the night, but without the sun scorching down, it’s pleasant.
The trail of cheese flavored snacks stays consistent, and he follows it across the yard, and to the dock, where he sees Peter lying flat on his back, staring up at the stars.
It’s a lucky night.
Peter at least hasn’t fallen into the lake in his extremely altered state.
“Peter,” says Tony, nudging the boy with his foot. He meant to kick him harder, but the goofy grin that stretches across the kid’s face drains his annoyance about being woken up by a screeching alarm.
“Oh hey, Mr. Stark, what are you doin’ up?”
And just like that, the aggravation returns.
“I don’t know,” says Mr. Stark. “I was thinking about having a pizza.”
“Ohhhhh,” says Peter, eyes as wide as saucers. “Pizza sounds great. Can you order break sticks too?”
For a few seconds Tony actually considers whipping out his phone and doing as the kid says. It’s the Peter effect. He’s looking particularly pathetic all high out there on the dock, and it’s playing right into Tony’s parental instinct to feed, water, and send to bed until he wakes up normal, or well, as normal as Peter Parker is capable of being.
“Pete,” says Tony. “I think you forgot about something. In the kitchen.”
“Oh damn, I left the ice cream out,” says Peter. He dramatically wads his own face with his hand, then pulls it away. “Don’t worry. I can drink it. Like soup.” He chuckles at his own joke, and then refocuses on the stars above them. “You still think about space, Mr. Stark?”
“Yep,” says Tony. “All the time.”
“Mmhmm, me too,” says Peter. “Space was bad, but the stars are still pretty.”
“I suppose they are.” Tony can’t disagree with Peter when he’s all high and philosophical. Instead he sits down on the wood, and listens to the lake water gently ripple against the dock. “Never really noticed. Don’t like looking at them much, I guess.”
“Shame,” says Peter. “We got lucky, didn’t we?”
“Lucky?”
“Well you got Morgan and Pepper and Happy and Rhodey,” he explains, “and I’ve got May, Ned and MJ. We’ve got all that and the stars.”
“It’s Happy’s fault.”
“It’s Happy’s fault that you’re high? How?”
“Dunno,” Peter shrugs. “Just felt like I should blame someone.”
Tony laughs. “You don’t. You’re not in trouble, but you will be scrubbing the insides of my oven and the entire kitchen tomorrow.”
“Aww.”
“Now, let’s get you off to bed, so I can go back to sleep without worrying about you drowning in the lake.”
A flash of sadness crosses Peter’s face. “I woke you up? I’m terrible.”
It’s such a small thing.
A normal inconvenience any parent would expect to have. Kids woke you up in the middle of the night. Even the teenage-shaped ones. It’s an inconvenience that’s well worth the title of parent, and it pains Tony to see Peter looking so distressed, even if he knows it’s mostly his altered state doing the talking and enhancing his emotions.
“You’re not so terrible,” says Tony. “I’m lucky. I’ve got you back and the stars are still pretty.”
Peter’s grin comes back. It isn’t so goofy this time, and when he looks up at the stars, there’s a peace radiating off him. “You know they really used to freak me out, like, when we first brought everyone back. I don’t know when they stopped being scary.”
Progress, Tony supposes. The kid is healing. He’s resilient, in a way Tony hopes to be someday. He’s always admired Peter’s strength, his optimism, despite his life being made so difficult.
“Just looked up one day, and everything was alright.”
“That’s great, kid.”
Peter tenses up, without warning, and his eyes lock on something in the lake water. He stretches out his arm and points to a bloated, orange puff of cheese floating in the dark water.
“Mr. Stark,” he says. “I gotta save the puff.”
“Hey, no –“ says Tony.
He tries to grab Peter before it happens, but he’s too late. The boy rolls off the dock, and splashes into the water. He disappears under the surface. There’re a few terrifying seconds where Tony believes he’s going to have to jump in and rescue him, but luckily, Peter’s head emerges and he’s saved the trouble.
“Mr. Stark,” he says, sadly, as he splashes around and treads water. “I lost the puff.”
Tony closes his eyes and takes a deep breath in, then out. With his head tilted upwards, he opens his eyes. Peter’s right about the stars. They’re bright, and they’re far away, and Tony’s reminded of what really matters.
“Pete,” he says. “Look up.”
Peter lifts his head, and says, “Oh yeah.”
“Now please get out of the lake before you drown.”
Peter laughs at him, and sloppily swims to shore, where Tony greets him and guides him back inside the house with an arm slung around his shoulders. He tracks water all over the place, but Tony doesn’t mind, as he fully intends on putting the kid to work cleaning up the kitchen mess and the lake water once he wakes up.
“Oh yeah, I forgot,” says Peter. He stops at the kitchen counter, and stares at the burnt pizza. “My pizza!”
He grabs the crusty brown pizza and chomps his mouth into it before he can be stopped. Tony can only watch in horror, and a little amazement, as the boy munches happily on the grossest pizza Tony has ever laid eyes on.
“Alright, alright I can’t let this go on any longer,” says Tony. He slaps the pizza away, and it falls from Peter’s hands and onto the floor. “Step away from the pizza, Parker. It’s bedtime.”
Peter pouts about it, but eventually lets Tony coax him up the stairs, where he dries off, gets into clean clothes, and disappears under a giant comforter. Tony wishes him goodnight before returning to his own bedroom, and slipping back into bed with Pepper.
“Everything good?” she asks, sleepily, with her eyes closed.
“Yeah,” says Tony, opting not to mention the state of the kitchen. “The stars are really pretty tonight.”
