Today is Pearl Harbor Day, that event took place 83 years ago today. The event even seemed long ago when I was a child because it didn't happen in my lifetime. It is good that we remember such days though because as noted by the American philosopher George Santayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." After World War II, the United States helped to rebuild the countries of its enemies and eventually they became our allies. While in the east, the Soviet Union subjugated the countries that fell under its control. causing a rift in the world order and the cold war began. Beware of despots.

Obviously, the USA government is not God, but claims that they are. They do not seem to realize that calling themselves "God" does not give them God's power. That is why I want them to read the following proof:

If you had God's power, you would be able to answer this question: "What do I have in my pocket?"

we're seeing such huge overcorrection from the "trump is a function of the system and not an exception" crowd that now we're struggling to have nuanced conversations about the harm he caused. he pushed for a new wave of deregulation that resulted in a large upward trend in nationwide food recalls. further, by backing the US out of the paris agreement and pulling funding for it, he severely damaged climate research and support in a critical time, and it is still struggling to recover. this is to say nothing of the things like the muslim ban, the corruption and nepotism, etc.

there is a middleground we can meet in where we discard irony and say "trump was not exceptional, but he did cause macro-scale harm in his position of power" instead of going "eh he was an average president that had an unremarkable term". none of this has to be black-white, we can talk away from extremes.

German cartoon of the famous "Father and Son" series by e. o. plauen (civil name Erich Ohser).

The cartoon series was hugely popular in the early 1930s. Part of its success is thought to be the appearance and mindset of the two main characters that is fundamentally opposed to the Nazi ideas. Erich Ohser retired the cartoon series at his own will when he felt that it became too commercialized, and the pressure to produce more and more of the cartoons impacted his heartfelt connection to the two characters.

Erich Ohser was a staunch opponent of the Nazi party. He was immediately banned from publishing when the Nazis came to power in 1933. However, he was allowed to publish this cartoon series under pseudonym. After he abandoned Father and Son, he worked eventually as a cartoonist for the government magazine Das Reich to make a living, where he was praised for his Stalin caricatures. However, he was denunciated by a neighbor and arrested together with his friend Erich Knauf. Erich Ohser committed suicide the night before his trial. Erich Knauf was found guilty and executed by beheading.
