The term “stunting” means to show off as it pertains to exerting one’s superiority through the things they own. Objects such as gold chains, big earrings, rims, and Air Jordans are commonly attained as a symbol of prosperity in many impoverished urban communities like the one in which Roberto Lugo was raised. Stay tuned as we continue the countdown to Chicago! @expochicago Pictured- Roberto Lugo, Stunting: Hip Hop Bowl Joint, 2018 . . . . . . . #philadelphia #phillydesign #creativedesign #creativephilly #interiordesign #interiordesignphilly #oldcityphilly #philadelphiadesigners #minimalism #contemporaryminimalist #PDD #philadelphiacreativedistrict #whyilovephilly #artanddesign #contemporaryart #phillydesigndistrict #designphiladelphia #ceramic #contemporaryceramics #stuntingseries #robertolugostudio #⚱️ (at Wexler Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/BntdHyBH2VE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pi9288p87vk6

28 Outstanding Things To Do In Philadelphia, October 1-8
October officially arrives this week along with LGBTQ celebrations, giant festivals, arts showcases, Oktoberfests, dance parties and huge concerts.
Fall festival season shows no sign of slowing down as two massive neighborhood celebrations — Midtown Village Fall Fest and Old City Fest — take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Expect tons of quality entertainment, delicious food, refreshing drinks and lively crowds at both of these giant fests.
Also on the festival front: Night Market: Philadelphia in Point Breeze, the Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival and five (!) different Oktoberfests.
LGBT History Month kicks off on Monday and events celebrating the LGBT community and the history of gay rights continue throughout October. Philadelphia Outfest, the biggest LGBT event in Philly, brings a huge, all-afternoon festival to the heart of the Gayborhood on Sunday with drag shows, live music, bar crawls and shopping within 10 square blocks.
October is also Mural Arts Month, a month-long event that honors the Mural Arts Philadelphia organization and promotes the power of public art. Another art-centric event, the DesignPhiladelphia festival, kicks off on Wednesday and continues through the week, offering more than 100 events and programming for design-savvy individuals and creative types over the course of 11 days.
We’ve extended our Picks of the Week post through Monday, October 8 due to the Columbus Day holiday. We’ll be back on Tuesday, October 9 with our next edition of Picks of the Week.
Check out all of our picks for this week in Philly, below.

The Center for Architecture + Design provides Philadelphia with educational programs, exhibitions, and a public space to explore architecture, urban planning, and design, allowing visitors the opportunity to understand how these disciplines affect us all in our daily lives.
The Center's signature annual festival, DesignPhiladelphia, is the oldest of its kind in the nation. An independent non-profit, the Center was founded in 2002 by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Philadelphia). The Center is open to the public five days a week. View winners of architecture and design competitions, educational resources, and follow the designfeed blog.

Principles for an exceptional creative experience. I didn't expect me reflecting on all of the experiences I have produced up until now would turn into this. But it has and I am really proud of it. Words to live by. ⠀ ⠀ Freshly posted, you can now read through each of these principles on my website. I'll be sharing more here as well.⠀ :⠀ https://buff.ly/2BNIB5X⠀ :⠀ "I have been creating works in the fields of fine art, design, marketing and event production for more than 15 years. The past six years have offered me an opportunity to take a lead role in growing the art and design community at @IndyHall—one of the longest running coworking communities in the United States. Often with little-to-no budget, I have designed and produced more than 30 live exhibitions—including the closing reception for @DesignPhiladelphia 2014, a major personal milestone.⠀ ⠀ Here are several principles I keep in mind when creating an experience."⠀ ⠀ #principles #exceptional #creative #experience #phillyartist #producer #art #design #fashion #music #creativity #creation #indyhall_arts #event #exhibition #production #concert #performance #icon #symbolism #symbols #heart #freedom #environment #inclusive #presence #home #figure

One of the highlight's of this year's DesignPhiladelphia Festival is the MERGE installation on Jefferson's Lubert Plaza at 10th and Locust Street. The installation is a must-see of this year's festival for two reasons. http://www.qoo.ly/iazg3

Play Space: Where Design Comes Into Play
October 11 – December 2, 2016
2nd and 4th Floors, NE corner
Closing reception: December 2, 2016 from 5-7pm
The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy welcomes Play Space to City Hall during this year’s DesignPhiladelphia festival.
Play Space is a partnership between the Community Design Collaborative and the Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children (DVAEYC) to explore the design of innovative urban play spaces and how they can improve the quality of child care and early childhood education.
What does play have to do with learning, health, nature, adventure, and community? Everything!
Play Space challenged designers, public leaders, educators, childcare providers, families, and communities to imagine new outdoor play spaces for Philadelphia’s libraries, recreation centers, schools, sidewalks, and yards. See their visions for the city’s playful future and learn more about the surprising, far-reaching benefits of play.
A closing reception is tentatively scheduled for November 30th in City Hall.
About Community Design Collaborative The Community Design Collaborative provides pro bono preliminary design services to nonprofit organizations in greater Philadelphia, creates engaging volunteer opportunities for design professionals, and raises awareness about the importance of design in revitalizing communities. For more information, visit: www.cdesignc.org
About 2016 DesignPhiladelphia As the oldest design festival of its kind in the country, DesignPhiladelphia highlights the work of thousands of local designers, architects, and creative professionals to demonstrate Philadelphia’s reemergence as a 21st century city shaped by thoughtful design, collaborative business practices, and community engagement.  For more information, please visit:  http://2016.designphiladelphia.org
