Mythology: Play

The term “play” can be understood in different ways. First, it will be a designergame/play with the audience. The visual language of Polish film, theater andexhibition posters, developed in the mid-1950s, free from literal representation,was full of visual metaphors. The designer invited the viewer to take part indecoding its secret meaning.

The “play” can also apply to theatrical plays. Polish post-war avant-garde theater created by Tadeusz Kantor and Jerzy Grotowski, among others, took the form ofa ritual play / meeting of the director, actors, and viewers, full of metaphorical meanings.

Can the historical experiences of an active poster designer (interpreting thecontent of the play) and theatre director (master of ceremonies, often present on the stage) be used in the contemporary language of visual communication?

What is the significance of historical actions for today’s student – using advanced technologies, social messengers, bombarded with notifications, pictures, emoticonsm and memes?

To what extent can the author’s approach in visual communication be widely reused, and to what extent will it become only a collection of historical myths interested to an elite group of intellectuals?

We played The Expanse Board Game again earlier this week. This is an excellent science fiction area majority game by #GeoffEngelstein. ⁣ ⁣ Spend victory points to buy cards, spend more points too Dave the card for later or use the card for the powerful event or for actions in the game. But using the card for actions allows one of your opponents to use the card for the event ability for free.⁣ ⁣ Place cubes on planets to control planets and bases and use fleet ships to support them from orbit. ⁣ ⁣ Pick the score card when you have majority in a section of the map and you get to secretly choose that section to score those points. The Bears and the Bees was a surprisingly strategic and thoughtful game. Simple to learn, color matching, hexagonal cards, interesting but fast gameplay, and it looks great on the table when the honeycomb has grown. Wingspan is amazing! My first play. I had a blast figuring out the best way to come in third. Well I was aiming higher but it was just so, so, so much fun! We all did slightly different things to score points and it was pretty close too. ⁣ ⁣ Simple set collection on top of more set collection, engine building, unique theme, beautiful amazing artwork and components, educational information about the bird theme, fast gameplay, with a tiny pinch of luck thrown in with dice - and that amazing dice tower! ⁣ ⁣ I don't know if this "The Perfect Game" (for me - hold your hate mail) after just one play. The simultaneous action selection mechanism is one of my most loved in modern games. Done properly this can add an fun element of stress and excitement to a good game. This is usually where everyone secretly decides what actions they want to take (i.e. what they want to do in the game) and then usually reveal at the same time to take those actions hoping all the available spots have not been already filled by the time they come up. The new game from Philip duBarry, Embark does this magnificently! Player are trying to get their workers onto boats -- and -- assigned to jobs that will then sail to island where workers will hopefully get work and generate victory points. The Godfather: Corleone's Empire by #EricLang and published by @cmongames is a brilliant thematic area control (or is area influence? I never know which is which) game. Place guys on the map of NY, shaking down local businesses to get resources (guns, booze, laundered money and illicit drugs) and money. Do jobs and convert resources to money. The player with the most money wins. Fans of the movie will enjoy this game. The game play is pretty confrontational but easy to learn and turns move fast. It looks a bit like a kids game, but Reef is really a clever abstract strategy game designed by Emerson Matsuuchi (Designer of the Century Spice Road series) and published by Next Moves Games. In Reef, players are playing cards, collecting these colorful, chunky pieces from the top part of the cards in their hand, placing them on their personal board to create patterns on the bottom part of the other cards in their hand.
