Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a Hindu festival celebrated with great enthusiasm across India and various other parts of the world. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Diwali typically involves lighting oil lamps or diyas, decorating homes, exchanging gifts, and enjoying festive meals with family and friends. The festival holds cultural, religious, and social significance, promoting the spirit of joy, unity, and hope.
A ladoo (also spelt laddu) is a popular and traditional Indian sweet. It is a round-shaped sweet ball made from various ingredients, including flour, sugar, and ghee (clarified butter). Ladoos are often prepared during festivals, celebrations, and religious occasions in India. They are considered a symbol of good luck and are distributed as a gesture of joy.
Needless to say, it's my favourite time of the year😁

LUCY IN THE METAVERSE!
Lucy on Lucille / Lucille on Lucy
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball created the Lucy character to live in a real world; a world also populated by movies stars, one of whom was film and radio performer Lucille Ball!  On rare occassion, the Lucy character dared to acknowledge the existence of her famous portrayer giving viewers a rare visit to the metaverse. Lucille believed that comedy was better if it stayed close to the truth. Her sitcoms are full of references to her own life and the lives of those around her - but that’s not enough to be Meta!  Here are some moments that transcend mere references and become self-referential!
Tumblr media
In 1946, Lucille Ball (the actress) met Lucille Ball (the filly), courtesy of jockey Johnny Longden. This meeting no doubt influenced Longden’s playing himself in “Lucy and The Loving Cup” (1957).
~ META MAGAZINES ~
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball was on the cover of a local edition of TV Guide (January 25, 1952), which was casually left on the coffee table during “Breaking the Lease” (1952).
Tumblr media
In “Ricky’s Life Story” (1953), the photo of Lucy ("That's a fine picture of my left arm!") holding Little Ricky, may actually be of Lucille Ball because the monogram on the blouse are the initials 'LB' - although it could be 'LR' as the lower part of the 'B' is blocked by the baby!. It could also be another person wearing Lucy’s blouse. Very meta!
Tumblr media
When Look turned up in “Lucy Gets Ricky on the Radio” (1952), the June 3, 1952, issue actually had Lucille Ball on the cover!
Tumblr media
Look was part of a 1952 flashback intro during Lucy’s pregnancy. Vivian Vance has her hand over Ball’s photo. Inside is an article by Desi Arnaz about his wife.
Tumblr media
Another ‘meta’ magazine appearance was in “Ricky Has Labor Pains” (1953) where a pregnant Lucy is reading the January 1953 McCall's (January 1953), which clearly has a cover that say “Why I Love Lucy” by Desi Arnaz!
~ META COSTUMES ~
Tumblr media
Desi Arnaz was such a golf nut that he built a second home on the 17th fairway of the Thunderbird Golf Club in Rancho Mirage, California. Ricky Ricardo (an East Coast golfer) wore the Thunderbird insignia on his cap in “The Golf Game” (1954). Desi ad-libs a verbal mention of the club at the start of “The Charm School” (S3;E15) earlier in 1954.
RICKY: “You know, the whole membership of the Thunderbird Club was around the 18th hole. All I had to do was make this measly two-foot putt to win, and I missed it!”
Tumblr media
In “Lucy and Aladdin’s Lamp” (1971), Lucy Ricardo’s trademark blue polka dot dress turns up at Lucy Carter’s garage sale!  The dress is a visual Easter Egg but is never talked about.
~ META MUSIC ~
Tumblr media
For “Lucy’s Last Birthday” (1953), Ricky’s birthday present to Lucy is a song called “I Love Lucy.” In reality, viewers had been listening to the Eliot Daniel theme song for nearly two years, but the previously unheard lyrics by Harold Adamson were new.
Tumblr media
In “Job Switching” (1952), nine weeks before it was announced that Lucy Ricardo would have a baby, Ricky is heard idly whistling “There’s A Brand New Baby in Our House,” a song that Desi Arnaz wrote several years earlier for the birth of his daughter. When Ethel asks Ricky if he wrote the song, he replies that he wrote it for Lucy. But since Lucie and Lucy are pronounced the same, Desi  may be talking about his daughter!
Tumblr media
A few weeks later, in “Sales Resistance” (1953), Ricky sings the song in full, recording it on a reel to reel tape recorder in his living room. Coincidentally, the song was released on the B side of the “I Love Lucy” theme song.
~ META CASTING ~
Tumblr media
In “Don Juan is Shelved” (1955) Lucy thinks real-life Hollywood producer Dore Schary is an out-of-work actor so she hires him to pretend to be... Dore Schary! Schary was supposed to play himself in the episode, but backed out at the last minute and the role was recast with Phil Ober, marring the mega meta nature of the episode. An added layer of meta was added by casting Ober, who was married to Vivian Vance and was - at times - an “out-of-work actor.”
Tumblr media
Frank Nelson memorably played the exasperated train conductor dealing with Lucy Ricardo in “The Great Train Robbery” (1955), then reprised the role to deal with Lucy Carmichael when “Lucy Visits the White House” (1963). Since the conductor was never given a character name - it is possible he exists in both metaverses!
Tumblr media
William Frawley made his last scripted television appearance in “Lucy and the Countess Have a Horse Guest” (1965) as a horse trainer. When he is out of earshot, Lucy Carmichael turns the Countess (Ann Sothern) and says:
LUCY: “You know, he reminds me of someone I used to know.”
Frawley spent nine years playing Fred Mertz on “I Love Lucy.”
Tumblr media
“Lucy The Gun Moll” (1966) is essentially a parody of Desilu’s crime drama “The Untouchables.” The meta madness is that the original actors (Robert Stack, Bruce Gordon, Steve London, and Walter Winchell) were cast, but the character names were changed to protect the innocent!  Lucy, as chanteuse Rusty Martin, even mentions the series title to pound the satire home.
Tumblr media
At the end of “Lucy Visits Jack Benny” (1974), the world’s most famous bus driver Ralph Kramden makes a wordless appearance. Jackie Gleason played the character on his variety show and the sitcom “The Honeymooners”, airing simultaneously with “I Love Lucy.”  Ball and Gleason collaborated on several specials. The meta world that contains Lucy Carter, Ralph also exists!
 ~ META REAL ESTATE ~
Tumblr media
In “The Tour” (1956), the Beverly Hills home of Richard Widmark actually is the home of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.  A second unit film crew was sent to Roxbury Drive residence to film establishing shots of Lucy and Ethel walking up to the home. The actors, however, are not Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, but identically dressed doubles!
Tumblr media
When “Lucy Sues Mooney” (1967) with the help of her wily lawyer Wally Wiley (Jack Carter), she gives her address as 780 Gower Street. This was the address of the Desilu Studios Production Offices. An extra layer of meta is added because Carter was best man at Ball’s wedding to Gary Morton. Lucy Carmichael also gives this as her address in “Lucy The Babysitter” (1967).
~ META MENTIONS ~
Tumblr media
In “Baby Pictures” (1953) Charlie Appleby tries to impress the Ricardos about his TV station’s catalog of films:
CHARLIE: “We’ve got the newest moving pictures in town. I bought a block of films yesterday, and I want to tell you that they’re going to make television stars out of some of the actors. Now, just remember their names: Conway Tearle and Mabel Normand.”
Tumblr media
Conway Tearle’s career bounced between Broadway and Hollywood. One of his last starring roles was in Hey Diddle Diddle, a play that premiered in 1937 featuring a 26 year-old Lucille Ball. The play was scheduled to open on Broadway, but closed after one week in Washington DC due to Tearle’s declining health. Had it succeeded, Ball’s career trajectory might have been very different!
Tumblr media
In 1967, TV producer and director Sheldon Leonard (who actually worked at Desilu), arranged to film a bank robbery at Mr. Mooney’s bank - but keeps it a secret from Lucy, naturally. The end of the episode turns very meta when Leonard says:
“I suddenly got this idea for a new television series. It would be about this kooky red headed girl. She works in a bank and she gets into all sorts of impossible situations and… ...forget it. Nobody would ever believe it!”
Tumblr media
A guest appearance by Van Johnson in “Guess Who Owes Lucy $23.50?” (1968) is used as an opportunity to promote their recently released film Yours Mine and Ours, where Lucy plays the wife of Henry Fonda and Johnson their best friend.
VAN JOHNSON: “I loved working with that kooky redhead.” LUCY CARTER: “Personally, I thought she was much too young for Henry Fonda.”
Tumblr media
During Lucille Ball’s third appearance on “The Carol Burnett Show” (1969) two flight attendants Finster (Carol) and Agnes (Lucille Ball) compete for a best employee award. They encounter a suspicious passenger (Harvey Korman) with a Fidel Castro-like beard, cigars tucked in his breast pocket, and a Spanish accent.
HOOPER (Lucy):“Where are you from, sir?  Havana?” PASSENGER (Korman): (alarmed) “Havana? What makes you think I’m from Havana?” HOOPER (Lucy):“Well, if it’s one thing I know, it’s a Cuban accent.”
This meta moment relies on the audience knowing that Lucille Ball had been married to Desi Arnaz, a Cuban immigrant, as was his sitcom spouse, Ricky Ricardo. In the late 1960′s hijacking planes to Cuba was headline news ripe for satire.
Tumblr media
When “Lucy Competes With Carol Burnett” (1970), she dresses like a charwoman identical to the one created by Burnett for “The Carol Burnett Show.” When Carol Krausmeyer (disguised as a hippie reporter) asks how Lucy Carter thought up such a crazy outfit.
LUCY: “From some goofy dame on TV.”  CAROL: “Well, she must be some kind of nut!”
~ THE DESILU METAVERSE ~
Tumblr media
Lucy Ricardo met Danny Williams (Danny Thomas) on a cross-over episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”;
Danny Williams drives through Mayberry and meets Sheriff Andy Taylor, which spawns “The Andy Griffith Show”;
“The Andy Griffith Show” is where the Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors) character began before getting his own show. “Gomer Pyle USMC”;
Tumblr media
Gomer Pyle turns up on “The Lucy Show,” although here she is Lucy Carmichael, not Lucy Ricardo (even though both women share the maiden name McGillacuddy).
The outcome is that Lucy Ricardo and Lucy Carmichael exist in the same (TV) Metaverse!
~ METAGRAPHS ~
Tumblr media
In “Lucy The Gun Moll” (1966) Rusty Martin’s (aka Lucy) dressing room is decorated with black and white photographs of Lucille Ball performing. Behind Robert Stack is a photo of Ball singing “Jitterbug Bite” in the 1940 film Dance, Girl, Dance. She met Desi Arnaz while making this movie. It was filmed at RKO, the studio that became Desilu.
Tumblr media
When Kim decorates her room with posters of classic film stars in “Lucy and the Andrews Sisters” (1969), Lucy Carter finds a poster of Lucille Ball! She looks at it thoughtfully, is about to put it on the wall, and then says “Meh” and puts it down.
Tumblr media
When “Lucy Carter Meets Lucille Ball” (1974), the walls of Ball’s dressing room are covered with photos from the star’s real life, including one of her mother Dede.
Tumblr media
The black and white photo next to the door is from “The Lucy Show” episode “Lucy and Chris’s New Year’s Eve Party” (1962) where Lucy Carmichael did a silent movie sketch as Charlie Chaplin. So Lucille Ball is playing Lucy Carmichael who is playing Charlie Chaplin!
Tumblr media
In 1975′s Lucille Ball special with Dean Martin, “Lucy Gets Lucky”, Lucy Collins admires a photo of Lucille Ball while walking through the Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel’s Hollywood Hall of Fame.
~ META MASTERPIECE ~
Tumblr media
The ultimate visit to the Metaverse is the “Here’s Lucy” episode “Lucy Carter Meets Lucille Ball” (1974), in which Lucy, Kim, and Cynthia (Carole Cook) enter a Lucille Ball look-alike contest.
Tumblr media
With the assistance of split screens and doubles (the best technology available at the time, Ball played both roles - and was even billed accordingly!
Tumblr media
Lucy, Cynthia, and Kim both don caftans and dark wigs to emulate Ball’s look in her upcoming film Mame, although the film is never directly mentioned. Kim says that a lot of her friends think she looks like Lucille Ball.
LUCY: “That's ridiculous. She's old enough to be your mother!”
And the winner is...
Tumblr media
...Lucy, naturally!

"The Global Rise of DesiCinema: How Indian Films are Conquering the World"
Tumblr media
Indian cinema, also known as DesiCinema, has long been a force to reckon with, captivating millions of viewers both in India and abroad. In recent years, however, DesiCinema has exploded onto the global stage, earning accolades and achieving unprecedented success in international markets. From awards at prestigious film festivals to record-breaking box office numbers worldwide, the influence of Indian cinema has reached new heights. But what is behind this growing global recognition, and why are international audiences flocking to desicinema in droves?
A New Era of Global Storytelling
DesiCinema has historically been known for its larger-than-life spectacle, songs, and dances, but the new wave of Indian filmmakers is pushing the boundaries of storytelling. Directors are increasingly creating content that resonates not only with Indian audiences but also with global viewers. The success of films like Gully Boy (2019), which was inspired by the Indian rap scene, and RRR (2022), which broke records worldwide, signals a shift in Indian cinema's approach to narrative, style, and themes.
These films tackle universal themes—such as self-expression, rebellion, and friendship—that resonate across cultural boundaries. RRR’s success, in particular, is a testament to the power of DesiCinema to appeal to global audiences. The film's combination of jaw-dropping action, compelling storytelling, and emotional depth earned it widespread praise, not only in India but across the world, culminating in a win for Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards.
Social Media & Streaming Platforms: Catalysts of Change
The rise of streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar has played a crucial role in making DesiCinema accessible to international audiences. These platforms offer a convenient way for non-Indian viewers to explore Indian cinema, often with subtitles in multiple languages. This accessibility has democratized Indian films and allowed viewers from all corners of the world to explore the diverse narratives of DesiCinema.
Films like The Lunchbox (2013) and Dangal (2016) have garnered massive global audiences through these platforms, showcasing India's rich culture and unique storytelling style. The availability of regional films from industries like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali on international streaming services has opened up a whole new world of cinema that was previously inaccessible to non-Indian viewers.
Moreover, social media has played a pivotal role in spreading the word about DesiCinema. Hashtags like #Bollywood, #Tollywood, and #RRR have trended on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, creating viral moments and attracting global attention. The use of social media platforms to engage with fans directly has allowed Indian filmmakers to cultivate a global fanbase that is enthusiastic and vocal about their work.
The Appeal of DesiCinema: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation
So why are global audiences falling in love with DesiCinema? One of the key reasons is its ability to blend traditional cultural elements with modern cinematic techniques. Indian films are renowned for their rich music, vibrant dance sequences, and colorful visuals, but they also tackle complex and relatable issues. Whether it’s the human struggles depicted in Barfi! (2012), the socio-political commentary in Article 15 (2019), or the celebration of identity in Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), DesiCinema finds a way to connect deeply with audiences.
Furthermore, Indian cinema’s unique form of storytelling—whether it’s through fantasy, action, drama, or romance—offers something distinct from Hollywood and other global film industries. Desi films have a way of immersing viewers in their worlds, blending emotion, spectacle, and culture in a way that feels fresh and exciting.
International Film Festivals and Recognition
The international recognition of DesiCinema has been marked by an increasing presence at prestigious film festivals around the world. Films like The Lunchbox, Court (2014), Masaan (2015), and Gully Boy have all made waves at major festivals such as Cannes, Toronto, and Berlin. Additionally, Indian filmmakers like Satyajit Ray, Anurag Kashyap, and Zoya Akhtar have earned critical acclaim for their work, helping put desicinemas on the global map.
This visibility has helped Indian cinema break through traditional cultural and language barriers, making it a respected part of the global film landscape. The Indian diaspora, which spans continents, has been instrumental in spreading the love for DesiCinema, but the appeal is no longer limited to them. Non-Indians are now discovering the joy of watching Indian films, and their global success is evidence of the growing influence of DesiCinema worldwide.
Conclusion: A Cinematic Revolution
DesiCinema is in the midst of a revolution. From the groundbreaking work of contemporary filmmakers to the global embrace of Indian stories, the future of Indian cinema is brighter than ever. As Indian filmmakers continue to experiment with new forms of storytelling and embrace global sensibilities, DesiCinema is poised to captivate audiences worldwide for years to come.
In a world where cinema is becoming increasingly globalized

Any Desi song recommendations? I’m sick of Bollywood remaking the classics and calling it a day and most of the yt pop girlies are making music that is v much mid to me
i mostly listen to very basic punjabi music😭 so if you're into that, these are my top artists: karan aujla, diljit dosanjh, shubh, pavitar lassoi, sidhu moosewala, wazir patar, raf sappera, amrinder gill, nirvair pannu, and ammy virk
specifically i love literally any song by karan aujla currently on repeat for me tho is winning speech, goin' off, antidote, idk how, mexico, and don't look.
i honestly don't listen to that much bollywood/hindi music and if i do its mostly slower paced songs so here are some i like: samjhawan from humpty sharma ki dulhania (my all time favourite comfort song ever i love this song so much), bolna from kapoor and sons, the ae dil hai mushkil soundtrack, kabira (encore), mast magan, pretty much anything by shreya goshal, tu jaane na by atif aslam, humsafar from badrinath ki dulhania, phir bhi tumko chaahunga, janam janam, galliyan (specifically shraddha kapoors cover), ishq sufiyana, ye tune kya kiya, anything by rahat fateh ali khan and saadi galli aaja. these are all very mainstream songs sorry i haven't been that into hindi music the past couple years so i don't have my peak playlists anymore
also honourable mentions: tu kya jaane from amar singh chamkila, o rangrez, and dawaat-e-ishq and i also have a weird phase with bollywood item songs sometimes so if you like those let me know😂
sorry this is not a very composed list but if you have a specific genre you like i will literally list all the songs i have from that genre I'm trying to be more of a music girlie this year so I've been expanding my taste past bollywood and punjabi trap

Diary of a Junebug
Tumblr media
The power of music brought us here and it'll take us even further as long as we keep following our dreams
Never underestimate how freeing it is to express yourself through art and creativity. When my mind is loud with overwhelming thoughts or if I’m feeling sort of meh, I find that doing something creative often helps my brain unwind. Journaling’s an obvious thing, and maybe it’s because I’m doing it for years now, but I find it easy and therapeutic to just let my thoughts run wild on paper. It can help sort out your thoughts and feelings over things that you feel conflicted over. Or it could help organize your mind of you’ve got a lot going on and just need some time to settle down.
I don’t always have a rhyme or reason for writing in my journal, nor do I have a strict routine. Some days, I have a lot of my mind, and other times, it’s no thoughts, head empty. To be honest, I don’t really care much for routine or consistency, because to me, journaling’s like any other hobby I pick up. The point is to enjoy it, and if I’m super busy or just not feeling it, I could easily put it aside and focus on something else without feeling bad or guilty. I like routine for the stability, but I don’t want it to completely dictate my day to day life, so I try to aim for a balance.
For me, I like do do a mix of different things when I journal. It’s not the most cohesive thing, which is okay for me because it’s my creative space and I can do whatever I want with it. Diary entries, random pages of art, quotes and lyrics that have been living rent free in my mind - really, the possibilities are endless! Over the years, I have developed my own style of journaling, which I’m happy with, and as of this moment, I’m hoping to keep up with journaling for as long as I feel like it - meaning, for the next few or several years to come.
Songwriting’s another popular way of self expression, and it’s actually come up a lot in conversations, probably because we just attended a music festival and some of our friends who performed there are staying at the camp to chill for a couple days. We’ve got Ying, Hua, Desi, Dello, Donna, and Edie - all who came a very long way to attend the Dreamer Festival in Spectrum Falls. Basically, Edie came from the midwest, Desi, Dello, ands Donna all the way in the west coast, and Ying and Hua came overseas from Yuexing - so they came a really long way! At least by stopping by the camp, Ying and Hua are able to cut their travel time by a few hours, which really makes a difference.
The Dreamer Festival is one of those events that’s a huge deal, sort of like a pipe dream for many. It’s not one of those mainstream festivals that is well known outside of certain circles, which makes it even more special if you’re able to get in. Not that it’s like exclusive, or elite, or anything, it’s more that they try to be super diverse and aim to showcase a wide variety of music, and there’s only so much you can pack into one event a year. In other words, space is limited and invite only, which also isn’t always guaranteed because things can change at the last minute - though from what I’ve heard, if they reach out to you, they will try to give you a slot within two years.
So it really was a stoke of luck that this gang of musicians got in this year, months after the organizers reach out to them, which, again, doesn’t always happen for a variety of reasons. Even now, after the festival, they still can’t believe that they made it. Like, if someone came up last year and told them, “Hey, you’d be performing at Dreamer one day” they’d be like, “You can’t be serious!” And now here they are. Amazing, isn’t it? Even more so after years of being told that their music wasn’t going to get them anywhere.
Obviously, you can’t win everyone over, but it starts to get to a point where the naysayers aren’t being logical anymore, or are just jealous or petty. On one hand, it’s understandable why someone might be against pursuing the arts as a career because it’s not an easy path, and even if you have talent, a lot of it also comes down to luck - and money, and connections, which often serves as a barrier for many. That, I get, because it is a valid concern, and it carries a lot of weight on your decisions.
Financial stability’s one thing, burnout and stress is another that’s a huge concern for many. A good support system can help with that, but that’s also not guaranteed, especially when it comes to factors that are completely out of your hands, which is the unfortunate nature of the music industry. Mainstream music, I can definitely see a lot of behind the scenes stuff happening, though that and smaller labels or independent have their own challenges too. Please note, I know absolutely nothing about the business side of the music industry except that like any other job, it has its problems and whatever.
For Dello and Donna, they acknowledge the fact that they had an advantage because of their connections because their uncle is The Kent Clanwing. However, everything else like finances and such, that was their own hard work and effort, partly due to Clanwing not being involved in that at all. Even now, his support still sends mixed messages to the family, which is something they’ll just have to accept. Not ideal and could be a lot better, but that’s just how it is.
Dello had always been into music, so he’s had a bit of experience with the industry, though it was more of a side thing. Clanwing never exactly discouraged him from pursuing music, but it was kinda implied that he felt that Dello didn’t have the chops to survive the business. Sure, he had the talent and artistic merit, though that can only take you so far, especially if you have other factors working against you.
The biggest obstacle was Dello’s stutter, something he’s struggled with all his life that he still gets self conscious about from time to time. It’s gotten better over the years, but it’s still there, and he knows how to live with it. Of course, Clanwing would never admit that he considers Dello’s stutter a flaw that should be hidden away out of shame. There’s no doubt that Clanwing holds his nephew in high regard, but even then, there’s always gonna be that catch, which is also something Dello has long accepted.
One thing that Clanwing always enforced on his family is to know how to roll with the punches, and so that’s how Dello chooses to live. He knows he can’t control his speech impediment, so he’s not gonna let that control his life and stop him from living. Why let that stop him from singing? Or in his case, why let that stop him from writing and producing music?
It wasn’t until he, Donna, and the others moved out of the manor when he decided to pursue music seriously, forming Ocean Winds with Donna. Dello knew from the start that he didn’t want to sign on with a major record label, choosing to go independent instead so he’s have more artistic control over his work. For them, that was a viable option, and I think they made the right choice to go down that route. They didn’t want to be big stars, they just wanted to make music and share that with the world.
Shine Within You, their debut single unexpectedly rocked the charts, because A, it’s a good song, and B, it has a reassuring message that spoke to a lot of people. And not surprisingly, the song’s message resulted in some “controversy”, which to me is more like pointless discourse, mainly by chronically online people who have nothing better to do. Really, how do you interpret the message of the song - that it’s okay to be yourself and you don’t need to be spectacular to be worthy - and say shit like it’s promoting laziness and being a burden to society?
I think more people need to hear that it’s okay to be mediocre and live a mundane life that makes you happy rather than constantly feeling the need to climb the ladder and aim for perfection in order to prove yourself. After all, it’s not healthy to be always pushing yourself, to be beating yourself up if you fail to meet the high expectations you’ve set for yourself. To always be aiming higher, never feeling satisfied enough with what you have because of the belief that there’s more.
The way I see it, it’s kinda like a never ending cycle - like, what’s the point in always aiming higher if you know that you still won’t be happy with what you’ve got? What’s the point of measuring your self worth with things like how much money you made, or if you did anything groundbreaking, or if you managed to climb to the top, if it brings you stress?
Maybe I’m kinda jaded because I know some people who treat life as some competition to see who’s the best of the best, either constantly beating themselves up for failing to meet their often unrealistic expectations, or acting like they’re superior because they’ve accomplished a lot and so everyone else is just lazy for not being able to reach the same level as them. I get being pressured to succeed and be on top of everything, but it becomes a problem when you force your views on others to the point that you end up being an unpleasant person to be around.
If anyone knows what that’s like, it’s Edie. She and her siblings always had a difficult relationship with their father, who seemed to disapprove of everything they did. He saw Edie’s venture into music a waste of time, saying that she needed to take life more seriously or that she didn’t have what it takes to be a good musician. By that, he meant that she had to be groundbreaking, a game changer, a prodigy - someone. She couldn’t just be a musician - she said nothing was ever enough for him, which was the main source of frustration between them.
I can’t imagine what it’s like growing up with someone that insufferable, especially a parent. Sure, he had his reasons, like the fact that he never really had a childhood because his father died when he was young and as the eldest he was responsible for the family. Still, that doesn’t excuse being a stuck up bitch who thinks you’re better than everyone. It’s even worse when they go out of their way to put others down so they look better in comparison.
Edie’s long accepted that she and her father will never see eye to eye. Aside from his disapproval over pretty much everything she does, he was also a manipulative liar, which is a whole ‘nother thing. He would basically tell people that Edie’s a struggling, disgruntled artist who’s failing to find an audience, and then get defensive when they find out the truth, that Edie was doing well and she was happy with her life.
However, the most telling thing about her father is his comment on her song Cloudy Roses, which was basically what he thought of all her work. Out of all the songs he chose to listen to, he chose the one she knew he was going to hate due to the fact that it’s about two women falling in love, something he considered blasphemy. His response? Telling her that back in his day, she would be murdered for writing something like that. That was really the only direct comment he had over her music. What the fuck? Like, what kind of a thing is that to say to someone? Edie knew he never thought highly of her work, but to basically straight up tell her that she should be killed for expressing herself through her art is going too far.
The others can relate to being told weird and unprompted comments regarding their music, though not on the same level as Edie’s father. Clanwing seems to support Ocean Winds in general, but he appears to have issues with the messages behind some of the songs. Donna said that he has a tendency to overreact to anything he perceives as criticism, so songs where they talk about their struggles - like mental health issues, for example - he can’t help but see that as a personal attack. She and Dello speculate that maybe part of it has to do with guilt, especially for someone like him who has a tendency to blow things out of proportion. On the other hand, it’s like yes, their songs tend to be more personal and inspired by their own life experiences - the key word being inspired - but it’s not 100% true to life, like pretty much all forms of art.
Ying says it’s similar with some of her more conservative relatives too. She doesn’t mind them listening to her music, but she knows that they’ll take issue with some of her songs that touch on subjects like being queer and dealing with mental health struggles. she won’t stop them from checking her stuff out, but at the same time she isn’t up to explaining herself when they demand an explanation, which has happened a couple times. They’re like, “We want to support you, but we don’t agree with your art and the messages you’re conveying through it and we don’t like that.”
Her father and grandparents are also the kind who take it as a personal attack when she opens up about her struggles growing up, specifically what it’s like to be a kid with undiagnosed ADHD and feeling like something was wrong with you, as well as dealing with those who aren’t always supportive of what you do or who you are. I guess it’s uncomfortable for them to accept that someone you grew up with or raised will never fit into that mold you had in mind for them and your expectations mostly succeeded in hurting them instead of helping.
It really sucks when there’s people close to you who refuse to accept you as you are, whether it be your sexuality, identity, if you’re neurodivergent or have a physical, or mental, or chronic condition - anything that makes you different. They’re like, “We don’t wanna hear any of that shit, so suck it up and suffer in silence.” Some people don’t want to admit it, but what they’re really thinking is, “We’d rather have you live in shame and suffer in silence because who you really are makes me uncomfortable,” and it becomes more apparent when other people are able to accept you without reservations while they keep insisting that you’re wrong and they’re right.
The mental health/ADHD stuff continues to be a touchy subject in Ying’s family as there’s still some who don’t believe in that kind of stuff and don’t want her to be associated with those types. At this point, the way she sees it, they’re entitled to their opinion, she’s entitled to her life - if they can’t see eye to eye, then so be it. Some battles aren’t worth fighting. Better to leave it as is rather than waste your energy trying to prove yourself to someone who won’t listen.
For Desi, most of her naysayers are, not surprisingly, people she worked with during her days with Too Cool and the Shayne Brothers, who are known for being cookie cutter mainstream pop - the kind that are stuck reliving their past in a bad way that makes them look bland and uninspired. These days, their songs are too formulaic and predictable, a far cry from their past when they actually put effort in their music rather than pander to what they thought would make the Top 40. I have no idea what they’re up to now, mainly because I’m not interested, though it’s likely the same old stuff.
Although they openly showed their support when Desi decided to go solo, she said it felt sort of backhanded, kinda like they were hoping that she’d reconsider her decision. It became even more apparent when she decided to embrace her Cuban roots, blending elements of traditional and pop rock, as well as incorporating Spanish lyrics. Some fans weren’t too keen on that, which wasn’t a surprise as they expected her work to be more like Too Cool, something she wanted to break away from. Looking back, her only regret was that she hadn’t left earlier once she realized that she was stuck in a rut.
I guess one of the biggest takeaways is that you can’t please everyone. Some people will always find something to criticize no matter what. It sucks to have someone you trust not give you their full support, it really does. But you shouldn’t let that stop you from achieving your dreams. After all, this is your life - you’re the one who calls the shots, not them. Maybe they don’t see eye to eye right now, but that doesn’t mean things won’t change for the better in the future.
Just focus on the present and do what feels right for you. In time, as long as you keep working at it, everything else will fall into place. I know from experience that things will work out in the end, often in ways you least expect it.

Sometimes Love Might Not Rise Again After The Pain
When you're fighting for what you own
And tĥe hounds of Baskerville
keep trying to find you
A circle game going round
First I'm lost
and then I'm found
Finding out
it's all up to you
Doing what you need to do
How the West was won
Fun, fun, fun
Memories of the Cougar
will never go away
for all of my days
In it now
The future as it is
High as a kite
There is a time and place
for everything
And there is plenty to be found there
Brown girls dancing in the sand
And a Hawaiian full moon
So fine
DJ music blaring in the air
Staying on the beach
until dawn
In tune to feelings created from above
We all have some value
whether we lose or win
Sometimes love might not rise again
after the pain
Sometimes love might not rise again
after the pain
Moonrider
blasting out of the gates
at the start
Placing bets at the track
without having to borrow
Soldiering on
Believing in a Desi lady
and her power on
Sitting on a rock
watching the sunrise
in the morning
If you are there
it must of took a lot to be there
Don't let go
of what is hard to acquire
Don't fall
Sometimes love might not rise again
after the pain
Sometimes you just need a friend
Rise.

Creating an Engaging User Experience in Real Money Games
In the highly competitive world of real money games, creating an engaging user experience (UX) is crucial for attracting and retaining players. The success of a real money gaming platform hinges not only on its ability to offer substantial rewards but also on how enjoyable and seamless the user experience is. Here, we explore key strategies for developing an engaging UX in real money games.
Intuitive User Interface (UI)
An intuitive user interface is the foundation of a great user experience. Players should be able to navigate the game effortlessly, understanding the mechanics without needing extensive instructions. This can be achieved through clear and simple design elements, logical layouts, and consistent visual cues. Buttons should be easily accessible and clearly labeled, while essential information like balance, bets, and winnings should be prominently displayed.
Visual and Audio Aesthetics
The visual and audio aesthetics of a game significantly influence user engagement. High-quality graphics, vibrant colors, and smooth animations can create an immersive environment that captivates players. Additionally, sound effects and background music should enhance the gaming experience without being overwhelming or distracting. The right combination of visual and auditory elements can make the game more enjoyable and keep players coming back.
Personalization
Personalization is a powerful tool in enhancing user experience. By allowing players to customize their avatars, game themes, or betting preferences, you create a sense of ownership and individuality. Advanced personalization can also include tailored game recommendations based on a player’s past behavior, increasing the likelihood of engagement.
Seamless Onboarding
A seamless onboarding process ensures that new players can start enjoying the game with minimal friction. This involves a straightforward registration process, clear instructions on how to play, and introductory bonuses to incentivize first-time players. Providing a tutorial or a demo version of the game can help players familiarize themselves with the mechanics without risking real money.
Engagement Features
Engagement features such as leaderboards, achievements, and social sharing options can significantly boost user involvement. Leaderboards create a competitive environment, encouraging players to improve their performance to climb the ranks. Achievements provide goals and milestones for players to strive for, adding an extra layer of motivation. Social sharing options allow players to share their accomplishments with friends, fostering a community around the game.
Regular Updates and Content
Keeping the game fresh with regular updates and new content is essential for maintaining long-term engagement. This can include new game modes, special events, seasonal themes, and limited-time offers. Regularly updating the game not only keeps it interesting for existing players but also attracts new players who are looking for the latest features and improvements.
Responsive Customer Support
Responsive and helpful customer support is vital for ensuring a positive user experience. Players should have access to multiple channels for support, such as live chat, email, and phone. Quick resolution of issues and clear communication can build trust and loyalty among players, making them more likely to continue playing and recommend the game to others.
Secure and Transparent Transactions
In real money games, the security and transparency of financial transactions are paramount. Players need to feel confident that their money is safe and that the game operates fairly. Implementing robust security measures, offering a variety of trusted payment options, and providing clear information about fees and payouts can enhance players' trust and satisfaction.
Conclusion
Creating an engaging user experience in real money games requires a holistic approach that combines intuitive design, high-quality visuals and audio, personalization, seamless onboarding, engaging features, regular updates, responsive customer support, and secure transactions. By prioritizing these elements, developers can build a platform that not only attracts players but also keeps them engaged and coming back for more.

This is too much FUN not to share! The Pakoda Chronicles -- Field notes from Foodistan By Chidanand Rajghatta Pakoda was beside himself with delight. No less a person than the Prime Minister of India had praised him for providing jobs to the masses. After long years, things were looking good for Pakoda and his friends Kachori, Samosa, Bhajji, Bonda and others, all reeling from demonization of fatty fried foods and western onslaught. The endorsement had come just in time. In fact, things were so bad that Pakoda’s wife Chai had eloped with Biskoot because, she said, he (Pakoda) was too greasy. She had fallen for that bleddy confused milksop who spelt his name Biscuit and spoke in a phony American accent, sometimes calling himself Cookie, all the while claiming he was baked, not fried. Word in the nukkad was she had ditched Biskoot too and moved to America, where she was living with a guy name Latte. Biskoot had crumbled, gone to pieces, the Fried-A-Times had reported. Anyway, the PM, who for sentimental reasons still spoke fondly of Chai, had bailed out Pakoda. He was now determined to fight the foreigners with help from his street food gang and create more jobs for the people, even if it meant making them fat and unhealthy. Pakoda knew he would have the support of at least a few loyal friends like Bhajji and Kachori. He was not sure he could depend on others. Bonda claimed to be from Mysore but frequently posed as a Vada while pairing with Maharashtrians and Gujaratis to form Vada Pao and Batata Vada. Samosa too was a bit suspect; lately, he claimed to be baked, not deep fried, and was consorting with that flirt Chutney, who went out with anyone who asked her, particularly goras. Apparently, they called her Chutney Mary in Blighty. Pakoda and his street gang though were hardcore desi and had pledged never to leave the ‘hood, although other fried fiends like Papad and Vada were starting to move out. They argued that to move up in life, they needed to be in restaurants. At the very least they had to be in stores like that upstart Chips, who now came in fancy flavours and colourful packaging. It was rumoured that Chips was having multiple affairs, including two-timing Salsa and Guacamole, two Latina babes who had come to check out des. Sometimes, Chips dressed himself up and went out with Fish, a Brit gal; other times, he pretended to be French and canoodled with Ke-tchup, who was a saucy Chinese chick. Pakoda sighed at memories of the good old days when they all hung out together at street corners and competed to win Chai’s hand. Ah, sweet Chai! Fragrant with cardamom and ginger and cinnamon! Pakoda felt a little sizzle run up his spines. Suddenly, he was shaken from his reverie. “Let’s go, let’s go,” Kachori was yelling. “We have a date with Jalebi and Gulabo. We can’t keep them waiting!” The words were sweet music to Pakoda’s ears and he forgot all about Chai as he dived into the frying pan with Kachori...!!!
