man, domestic cats have it so good. i got my cat a deshedding comb because she has a ton of trapped shed fur in her coat and she purrs and rolls and enjoys getting combed out so much

and like... us wild cats don't have anything like that or anyone to do it for us. no one's going to take a deshedding brush to a wild bobcat or snow leopard (and they shouldn't, don't bother wild animals and definitely don't treat them like you would their domesticated cousins). nobody's going to run their fingers through my fur and scritch me in just. that. spot. that i can never seem to reach myself when i groom. nobody's going to lovingly talk to me while brushing great clouds of fur out of my undercoat while i purr about how damn good it feels to be free of all that loose fur

Do all your fluffy OCs pant to cool off or do they sweat a little? Do you think wearing clothes when you have fur would feel weird?

hmmm i think they sweat, but definitely not as much as humans do. heat exhaustion is a serious risk for the larger ones, especially the cats since they arent built for long periods of strenuous activity. the dogmen are fine though! most of them have default forms that have hairless human torsos and limbs, so they are perfectly suited to long-distance running! they can also shift to full human form if it’s ever necessary.

i think for more traditional guys like denali, clothes are still kind of strange. she prefers not to wear them when she’s doing something important! younger and more humanized creatures tend to not mind so much. they all have to contend with shedding, though! but i think that can be managed with daily grooming/brushing and deshedding shampoo👍

Headcanon: When Silver was younger, Rouge used to groom him obssessively twice a day with a deshedder brush. Despite people thinking this was about appearances on the surface, 90% of it was motivated by Rouge not wanting Silver to shed white fur on her dark clothes like a cat whenever she held him. When he got older and didn't care about obssessively deshedding himself, it left Rouge mildly irritated because now the furniture has fur on it and she has to suffer from little white hairs on her clothes whenever she hugs her son.

We picked up a deshedding brush for the cat because he's been shedding ridiculously and the fur everywhere makes me itch. And it's So Effective! Like, I've been brushing him daily with his old brush but this one is picking up so much more. And he likes it!

I got Pumpkin a deshedding brush and he doesn't know how to feel about it.

He'll walk around but sort of let me do it, but also he'll sit still for it if I give him treats to distract him

He's not biting me as much as I thought

but it is getting out he impacted fur that would normally be turning into mats so it would be cool if he kept letting me do it

He loves the normal brush but it doesn't get super deep

He's like the most plush medium haired cat ever

It's all so thick and soft

Like, I got my cats a super nice top entry litter box and low dust silica litter, all of them food for a month(my dog is huge so that’s like 70 alone, and one of my cats can’t have grain or he gets super sick 🫣), my dog toothpaste, toothbrushes, and a new food container because his got busted in our last move. As well as all of them treats and the cats toys. Along with a new deshedding brush for them to share.

Like, I run my poor dog RAGGED because I force him to do my two daily 45 minute walks with me and seeing them all happy makes me so much happier than food ever could.

(I’m also moving at the end of next month so I’m forcing myself to eat all I have in the freezer and in cans so I don’t have to move it all 😬)
