While hanging out in the market, Jill stumbled upon a cooking contest and she didn't need to be asked twice. She was competitive and always used an opportunity to test her skills.

Only when she realized how strict the judges are and how strong was her competition, she started having doubts about her quick Chicken Milanese recipe.

Luckily, she still managed to win the first price and immediately got a boost to her self-esteem. That victory made her believe her culinary skills are unmatched.

She tried to snatch a recipe for Desdemona's mooncakes, but the young Capp lady was salty about her defeat and refused to share her secrets.

Desdemona saw her parents become soft in each other's arms and wondered about her own love life (or lack thereof).

Being pretty personable - and pretty pretty, for that matter - hadn't helped Des make any connections beyond the platonic. Her big sister Miranda had made it look so easy to flit about with boys in high school. Her advice? "Be yourself!" Yes, and then what, Miri? At this point, she'd written off high school as a dateless blip and was pinning her hopes on the dating pool at Mission University instead. She'd be the freshest freshman of them all but at least there'd be new people to talk to!

Rosalind and Goneril were slow dancing to a jazz tune in the lounge. "Did you see Des before?" Rosalind asked Goneril, as she was gently twirled in their strong, capable hands. "She looked a little down - woah-ho!" Goneril had dipped her, and Rosalind relished their hand on the small of her back. They grinned down at her, and the boyish glint in their eyes belied the extra wrinkles and silver hair.

"I think I know why," Gon eventually replied, lifting Roz to her feet. "Look at us. Me in my fancy duds. You in that hot red number... she hasn't experienced what we have yet."

The observation was surprisingly open, even passionate. Rosalind hoped that getting older had taken some of the edge of Goneril's oft-prickly personality. Even taking time to dress up for no reason and be in each other's arms like this was a good sign - and perhaps one that had taken their daughter by surprise in more ways than one.

Miranda's return from Mission University with her degree in Physics was fantastic timing while the family (for the most part) were in such a celebratory mood. She was welcomed home with the help of a new family member, Thunderbird the grey parrot. It was good for the children to experience the love of a bird, as well as a dog and a cat, Rosalind thought... and anything could happen when Goneril felt agreeable.

Alexander comes home from school with Desdemona Capp, and they use the wedding setup as a playground.
