Important Auradon Prep dining hall facts from the Villain Kid’s book for new VKs 

The school has an ice cream sundae bar the last Friday of every month.  

Mal is a mint chip ice cream lover (this is very important to me personally, mint chip ice cream is delicious and doesn’t deserve any of the hate it gets, much like Mal herself…)

The school does Sunday brunch. As someone who went to a relatively fancy college that also did weekend brunch meals, this is somewhat confusing and distressing the first weekend when you go down at your expected breakfast hour and find NO food out yet. 

Bunch doesn’t start until noon….the VKs definitely learned this the hard way. 

Evie likes eggs Florentine- as well as everything else on the brunch list, which is delicious carbs. #leteviehavebread2k23 

Auradon Prep has pasta mondays…..every week? Once a month? No clear timeline on this one, but after working in a bunch of  different real-life dining hall kitchens, I know that it’s nice to have a set meal rotation, so pasta every Monday probably makes sense for a high school. 

Another important note here is that pasta night is ~fancy~ and they put out white tablecloths and dim the lights. Weird choice for a high school dining hall, but I guess when your student body is unimaginably rich and also likely confined to campus during the school term, you’ve got to make your own date opportunities. 

Side note: is there an Auradon Prep hierarchy of “good” date nights? Is being asked out to Monday pasta night like a basic, everyday-tier date? The enchanted lake is clearly where students go to have a romantic picnic and then hook up, but what other common school dates are there? Is brunch appropriately romantic? Does the dining hall let anyone request a picnic, or is that reserved for actual royalty? Many questions here. 

The funniest thing so far in the dining hall section of this book is the sample menu they have- WHO is feeding high school students escargot? Mussels? I guess they’re coastal enough to have fresh mussels on a somewhat regular basis because we do see them on a boat in D2…and like, they’re in relatively close proximity to the isle, which is In The Ocean, so I guess that part makes sense. But printed menus every night?? 

In my heart the printed menus are a sort of once-a-week special occasion thing. Maybe once a week they have fancy dinners where they’re all expected to eat nicely with the teachers, or with whatever visiting royal family is there to see their kids, or just to practice proper formal dinner etiquette. 

The Auradon Prep dining hall serves grill cheese with tomato slices in the middle. Jay is apparently a big fan of this. I’m only sad about this one because I have a scene 90% written where the dining hall is serving grilled cheese and tomato soup, and now for ~canon accuracy~ I’m going to have to edit that.

The Arkanian legend of Vice General Valentine is one that Hux knows well. During a period of intense civil war that split the planet in two halves, the Vice General held secret ceremonies for lovers on opposite sides of the war who wanted to marry, to bond. He was eventually found, of course, and his treachery led to his death but the centuries old tale is honoured once a year on Valentine’s Day, a day that celebrates love in all of its forms.

When the calendar notification flashes up on his datapad, Hux scrunches his nose up in disgust. It makes him want to throw his datapad across his chambers but instead, he huffs with revulsion and sits up straighter in his bed. Ridiculous; of all the things to commend, he can hardly believe that his people would choose to honour someone who was a traitor to his own allegiance. Valentine’s Day is nothing more than a commercial trap that is set for half-witted fools who believe that they’re in the throes of infatuation, and it makes Hux sick to his stomach.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, lover.”

Hux frowns, but accepts the kiss from Kylo anyway. The Knight gives him a gentle peck on the lips before moving to kiss both of his cheeks, forehead and nose before handing a cup of Hux’s morning caf to him.

“How do you know about Valentine’s Day?” Hux asks, happily taking the beverage.

“It’s a Chandrillan tradition,” Kylo says, sitting down on the bed. He sets his hand upon Hux’s leg and rubs it absentmindedly; Hux silently admits how much these small actions of affection mean to him. “A Lieutenant of the Chandrillan army went against the orders of his superior officer to forbid her to marry someone she loved. Something about him having familial links to an enemy. But he married him anyway, and the two performed covert marriage ceremonies for people in the same situation. They eventually became The Lords Valentine. People from Chandrilla honour them once a year on Valentine’s Day.”

“That’s not the story,” Hux scoffs. “And it’s a tale from an Arkanis legend, not from Chandrilla.”

“I know my history, Hux.”

“As do I, Ren. Valentine’s Day is an annual celebration of love on Arkanis.“

“On Chandrilla too.”

The likelihood of a military man with the same name becoming involved in secret marriage ceremonies on two completely different planet seems far too impossible for Hux’s logical mind to comprehend but he sees the softness in Kylo’s eyes and decides not to challenge it any further. And then, he sees something else.

The room is covered in red roses; petals are scattered everywhere and on every surface whilst long-stemmed roses stand proudly in perfect arrangements in vases. There must be hundreds of them, all seemingly glittering in the low light of their bed chambers. The sight of them surrounding him is one of the most beautiful things that Hux has ever seen.

“Ren,” Hux sighs with a smile. “What’s this?”

“Like I said, Happy Valentine’s Day, lover,” Kylo says as a large bunch of roses float elegantly into his open hand. He holds them out to Hux, who takes them and inhales their fresh aroma.

“I didn’t get you anything,” Hux says dejectedly. “I’ve never…I’ve never had to before.”

“You’ve already given me everything I need, Hux,” Kylo says, leaning in closely until his lips are almost upon Hux’s. “You’re my air. You’re my heart. You’re my galaxy. What else could I ever need?”

Perhaps Valentine’s Day isn’t so ridiculous after all, now that he has someone to share his love with.

The explosion's shockwave, combined with the thunderstorm and the panicking crowd, knocked them out cold.

Their actions were calculated and precise, leaving no trace of their involvement. The Sterling Siblings became known for their ability to make a scene and then vanish without a trace, leaving authorities and victims alike baffled. I was rewatching the latter half of season 3 (I know, questionable life choice), and did anyone else find Tissaia’s line about the enchantment procedure really strange?

"They make us sacrifice so much. The cost of learning magic. When I came to Aretuza, if a sorceress fell pregnant, she was kicked out. ‘Divided loyalties,’ said the men. So, I made them take us seriously. The enchantment was never about clearer access to Chaos. It was about getting a seat at the table. And the Brotherhood, they called me bold. I was just desperate. The first of many mistakes."

Like, not only does that completely contradict what Giltine said in S1 about the inherent cost of creation and needing something sacrificed in exchange (beauty + never aging in exchange for a mage’s womb), I feel like it also diminishes the entire plotline of Yennefer being upset about her infertility. She makes peace with it on the show through Sodden and Ciri etc., which is supposed to send a message about how family and fulfillment doesn’t have to come from your womb, and I feel like Tissaia suddenly saying ‘oh wait no, you actually can be a sorceress and get pregnant, I just wanted the men to take us seriously so I removed your ability to do so’ cheapens it somehow? I totally get her being regretful about sending pregnant students away, but to me the whole exchange felt like a cheap and shoehorned excuse to give Tissaia even more life regrets to justify the suicide or whatever. IMO if they wanted to go that route, then they should’ve just brought up the eel pool. But no, instead they have to contradict a whole ass S1 plotline with a stupid one-liner. (Also, what she said makes no sense anyways because the enchantment still occurs at graduation, so you’d still get kicked out of Aretuza if you fell pregnant before that.) Also it's weird that Yennefer didn't even say anything after Tissaia said it??

I also kind of liked how in the witcher books, Tissaia implemented the sterilization procedure because Chaos messes up your fertility anyways and often results in seriously deformed and dangerous offspring, and she wanted to prevent that. It showed a tougher, more rational side to her character that I feel was lost a bit in S2 and S3. I feel like through show!Tissaia’s general plotline with the Brotherhood, Netflix wanted to send this weird pseudo-feminist message about how you shouldn’t try to ‘be one of the men’ to be powerful, which okay fine, but why make old and wise Tissaia of all characters go through that?  

I know this is like 1 small point on the vast list of things Netflix screwed up, but it was bothering me so I decided to make this post lol.
