How old are you? I recently turned fffffff... fff..[wheeze]...f-f-f-f-f... fantastically older than I have been in the past.  It still just wants a little getting used to.

Dream job? Professor and writer of strange fictions.

What is a big goal you are working towards (or have already achieved)? Graduating and getting a job in Europe. 

What’s your aesthetic? The cluttered, the baroque, and the sublime.

Do you collect anything? Books!

What’s a topic you’re always up to talk about?: Fantasy, myth, and the very best of Norway.

What’s a pet peeve of yours? The constant pressure for people to change from what they are into what the world tells them to be.  I think about how much time I wasted trying to be thinner and tidier and earlier and organized in ways that people around me understood; and I think about how I undervalued what I did do because I couldn’t manage any of these other things; and I see the most wonderful people around me trying to change themselves when there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them.  It makes me wonder what we could do if we accepted ourselves and each other, not in the sense of never changing, or excusing genuinely harmful behaviour, but in the sense of accommodating our differences instead of trying to erase them.

Good advice to give? When someone tells you about themselves and their experiences, believe them.  When someone tells you about yourself and your experiences, listen critically, because it’s possible that they have something new and valuable to offer, but you’re the one who has to live in your skull, and you’re the expert.

Recommend three songs?  

"In the Presence Of” by Yes.  It was a tossup between this and “Awaken,” but “Awaken” is all highs, and this has this gorgeous, moving, scary, lonely moment at around the seven-minute mark.  Also, strings.  (Honourable mention: “On the Silent Wings of Freedom,” which also has its dark lonely moment, with its drum track that sounds like wingbeats and the way that the guitar swoops and soars around a bass line that is one of the most perfect things I have ever heard.  Even if Rick is off doing his own thing.)

The Benya remix of “Entry to Heaven” by Vir2L Vision.  It is the most aggressively happy song I know.

Instrumental Core’s “The Angels Among Demons.”  This is the song that’s playing while everything explodes behind you and you just continue to walk, staring straight at the camera, unmoved, with your internal organs miraculously unpulped by the concussion and your trenchcoat fanning out behind you.
