You know people don't love the idealized version of you that's in your head, but the tangible you that they can see and feel with their eyes and hands and ears, the one with all the insecurities and things you don't love about yourself, the people love that person.

A few weeks ago I saw a post with someone wondering why you never used to hear admonitions to kids to drink water, and now you hear them everywhere. And one of the replies was that kids were just chronically dehydrated back then, and are paying the price for it now.
Upon reflection, do I agree with this? Oh no.

[Image description: a cartoon of the Kool-Aid Man, an anthropomorphized jug of red Kool-Aid with limbs, a face, and ice cubes, busting through a brick wall, brandishing a smaller jug of red Kool-Aid. A speech bubble reads, "Oh yeah!"]
Kids guzzled artificially coloured, artificially flavoured sugar water by the litre. It was just flavoured powder, sugar (you could mixes with pre-added sugar, or add your own), and tap water. I wasn't normally allowed sweets because I was the fat kid, but even I was allowed Kool-Aid, although my mom reduced the sugar by half. There was also Hawaiian Punch (which my granddad inexplicably called Walk-a-thon beer), Freshie, and Sunny Delight, which rebranded in the nineties as Sunny D. And store brands. A&P used to sell tins of something called Arctic Cooler that was bright green and tasted amazing. And there were a tonne of frozen juice blends with added sugar, that you would pour into a jug and make up with tap water.
I guess a lot of this stuff still exists, but it used to take up half an aisle at the grocery store, and now it just doesn't in the grocery stories I've seen, because sugar has fallen out of fashion. But I am certain that is how most of us stayed hydrated: we drank stuff that tasted good.
"sugar is poison" sugar is your body's preferred fuel choice and if you stop eating entirely you will die

I’m an “I do not like children” person but not an “I hate children” person. I do not want a child. I do not particularly like being in the company of small children. I am not interested in babysitting. I do not think society’s view on procreating being necessary to fulfill one’s life is healthy. But I think kids are people too and they deserve all the resources, time and attention they need to successfully grow. I think the welfare of children is fundamental to society. I smile at babies in public. I try to be sympathetic if a child is having a meltdown in public. I think being cruel to children is one of the worst things a human can do.
This puts me in a strange middle ground because I absolutely cannot get along with the “I love babies, I need to have kids, my kids are my world, having children is sooo beautiful, the world should cater to children always” crowd or the “I think children are like disgusting little rats, I hate them, they’re subhuman” crowd.

Trying to get ready for German class at six this morning, after four hours sleep, puttering around the kitchen, and I realized something was wrong with my bra. It wasn't outright uncomfortable, but it just wasn't sitting right, and it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out why.
I was wearing it backwards.

You will get farther in one week paying close, nonjudgmental attention to the unmet needs underlying your "bad" behavior than you will in a year of punishing yourself and demanding you become a different person. I'm right shut up.

“what if kids identify with something and it ends up just being a phase-?” good. stop teaching and expecting kids (and adults honestly) to formulate permanent traits and ideas of themselves. everything in life is a phase. that doesn’t make it any less legitimate while you experience it. let people explore themselves and know it’s okay if what you think about yourself changes.

“[X] should be run more like a business”
No, no it shouldn’t. “Run like a business” is shorthand for “cuts corners, preys on consumers, and rewards those who do the most work with the least compensation.”
Schools should not be run like businesses, they should be run like schools — focused on educating students, not making money for shareholders or forcing employees to become de facto customer service agents
Government should not be run like a business, it should be run like a government — spending every last dime it pulls in for the sake of protecting its citizenry and making society more beneficial for all
Businesses shouldn’t even be run like businesses — they should be focused on providing a useful product or service and compensating those that provide that product or service fairly for the work they put in.
I don’t want jack shit run like a business, I want our society to be run like a fucking society. If you want society run like a business, that just tells me where in the business hierarchy you see yourself — the part that does not belong to a healthy society
