Me: Did I take my meds this morning?
Me:
Me: Can’t risk a double dose, so we’ll find out.
-time for nightly dose-
Me: *braces forearms on thighs*
Thighs & forearms: *looks like someone beat me, the dermatographia is so bad*
Me: Ah, I did not.
#no one freak out I already took my meds#MCAS#chronic health tag#ehlers danlos problems#dermatographia#also. yes. I literally can’t risk a double dose. I am already prescribed 4x the typical daily dosage. so like. no.

Was anyone going to tell me that your skin turning red and swollen when you scratch it wasn't normal, or was I just supposed to learn that randomly on the internet by myself?
THERE'S A NAME FOR IT?!?!

When i tell people my skin is sensitive it doesn't even begin to let them know just how much
Sometimes I'll put on a sweater and my entire chest will break out in hives and itch for hours, turning beet red. I can't scratch myself on furniture and things because it will create ridges and itch like a motherfucker. Or I'll scratch my face and not realize until people will be like oh wow gnarly scar what have you done?? Sometimes I can’t even let people touch me. I have dermatographia lol

TW: injection
Whumpee with dermatographia lightly scratching their skin to mark an injection site and someone else (maybe Caretaker who doesn't usually watch them do their injections) looking on in absolute horror.
#I have dermatographia and I sometimes mark my skin for injections#it's not painful#it just looks like it is lol#I just have memory issues and forget which side my injection is on between cleaning it and picking up the syringe#whump#whump prompt#dermatographia#needle#injection

best part of dermatographia is the cool party trick i get to do sometimes. worst part of dermatographia is the fucking jumpscare i get after i forget ive scratched something. like. 15 minutes later i look at my leg like Holy Shit why are there like. inflammed patches on my leg. IDIOT its you scratched it and ALSO ALSO the dermatographia MAKES that bit itchier. so like you scratch ur arm because itchy. and then like a minute later its itchier. you are sisyphus
#dermatographia#its so stupid#every time i see that post like ohhh dermatographia so cool its like#ok i'll admit its cool for like 5 minutes at a party#but living with it is like. lame as hell#you scratch something you have to be AWARE that that part of your skin will cause concern from others

*Want to check if I still have dermatographia
*Write a lil message on the back of my hand
*Go back to writing, forget about it
*Wait 30 minutes
*Reach for phone
*Be greeted with this gem
*Die

how many of you guys struggle with having both dermatillomania and dermatographia, so you get into a cycle where picking a few things makes your skin super inflamed and itchy so you pick more because you’re like “well I already look horrible”

Top 5 Skin Products Recommended by a Dermatologist
Skincare isn’t always a one-size-suits-all affair. Different skin sorts and worries require one-of-a-kind merchandise and elements to obtain excellent results. That’s why it’s continually helpful to seek advice from a dermatologist, who can provide professional advice on what your pores and skin desires and what products to use.

I'm going to rant because I'm just so frustrated about all those things they make for flavoring your water...and how I can not use them.
Because I have this interesting thing called Dermatographism - Meaning "write on skin" which is a histamine reaction in my skin cell walls. I'm part of the 5% of people or so that have it. When it is in a flare up it makes my skin itchy, and makes it so if I get any kind of scratch/pressure on my skin it will cause a welt for a few to several minutes where it is very itchy and red.
What is one of the things that causes flare ups of this? Sucralose. That fake sugar that every sugar free/zero sugar/less sugar item seems to have. I just want some flavor in my water. I can have the sugar and calories, but no one seems to make any without sucralose. Sucrose, glucos, etc are all fine. I can have sugar and even most other sweetners are fine..but sucralose, the most common for like every low calorie drink ever...makes me itch. Stevia/Truvia also makes me itch, but that is less important.
I have not been able to find something to flavor my water since I have a hard time drinking plain water about 70% of the time....I hydrate via tea, gatorade, milk, juice, broth, etc. Water is something I can only comfortably drink in small quantities or feel water logged/bloated for some reason. I need some flavor, but I can not find anything I can safely add. I just need to add some lemon juice or like....something to make it easier to drink. I wanted to use Mio or one of those...but no. They do not make those sucralose free. So I get to be here sad.
#Misc#Rin Rambles#I talk too much#but like#for real#I can not be the only person#who does not like sucralose#in their drinks#it has a flavor#something like an aftertaste#that I do not fin pleasant anyways#but still#I just want to flavor my drinks#dermatographia#Dermatographism#Histamine reactions#I also react to flea bites and stress#but I can honestly usually manage those#well enough to not get many flare ups#but sucralose is the weird and sad one#that I have to sigh a lot#when looking up whats in a drink

i still occasionally see that 'skin writing' post going around and it leaves out a very very important detail, so as someone with dermatographia let me fuckin tell you
y'know what those welts are? histamine response. y'know what histamine responses are?
ITCHY
#voxbox#dermatographia#imagine if everything ever in the entire world was made out of mosquitos#that's what dermatographia is like. if my skin is broken at all by ANYTHING it itches for 10 minutes#papercuts? stingy AND itchy. scratch an itch too hard and break the skin? it's even itchier now and lasts twice as long!#just played with my cat and she caught my hand in two places with her claws. both cuts are tiny. maybe a milimeter apiece#they've been itchy welts for about 5 minutes now. if i scratch them it'll get worse#so i must sit and seethe#i have been to hell and it looks like dry hands that split in two dozen microscopic places that itch and burn#and before someone says anything no it's not allergies. my doctor scratched my skin in various places with a sterile needle#and every single scratch welted up and itched. i have an actual dermatographia diagnosis#it is considered an immune disorder#and it's a n n o y i n g

Life update: Working on a really cool short animation, which is why I haven't been making that many drawings lately. It'll be done in a few weeks. I'm also in the process of studying for my english and philosophy finals. After these things are done I want to start working on more oc stuff, while still making fanart, of course.
Across a dark plain is on a short hiatus until I finish the other animation, which I've been using as practice. Sometimes I wonder if people are even still interested in Across A Dark Plain. I won't give up on it, though, because I've already done so much
After the short animation is done I want to take up some commissions
Oh, and I finally got diagnosed with dermatographia, aka the skin writing disease. I've known that I've had it for a long time, but it was nice to get a confirmation.
