btw life hack that no one will tell you about: if you need a Krankmeldung in Austria, a PVZ will likely just give you one via call. At least mine does, might depend. You don't even need to live all that close to the PVZ they are supposed to have a large Einzugsgebiet!!

Context: At one point in my fic Noah and Piper make a deal that they both have to ask someone they like to dance with them, but I never wrote Piper's POV. So I'm going to take a stab at that!

By the time Piper had the nerve to approach that table on the courtyard perimeter, many of them had cleared out. The Goodneighbor guests dressed up for the occasion, as much as one does when they're from Goodneighbor, but it was like these four didn't get the memo that this was a party. They bickered and talked shop and practiced tricks with a butterfly knife.

The girl with a fiery flat-ironed undercut and leather vest raised an eyebrow as soon as she noticed Piper walking up to her.

"Fahrenheit! Hi!"

Damn it. That came out several ticks too enthusiastic. But a quick, curious glimmer crossed Fahrenheit's eyes before she went back to glowering.

"It's... Piper, right?"

"Yep, with a 'W.'" She gave a nervous chuckle in the absence of a real response from anyone at the table.

"Uh, would you like to dance? With me? Out there?"

The other three swiveled to see Fahrenheit's reaction, one of them nearly nicking his hand with the knife, still in motion.

"Sure, okay."

Fixing each of her companions with a flash of a glare that could have melted steel, she downed the last of a mixed drink before joining Piper. They'd only met a few times in passing, but this evening she looked less like a bodyguard, a thin white t-shirt hugging her collarbones under the vest.

They joined the floor in the middle of a song, and without asking, Piper took the lead. It came naturally after so many recent evenings of trying to teach Noah how to do the lindy hop.

"You're pretty good at this." A smirk that seemed ages older than Fahr herself, though her steely eyes softened.

"You seem surprised," Piper chuckled. "I mean, come on. We're allowed to have fun once a month in Diamond City."

She snickered. "That often?"

The song changed, and they both adjusted their stance for a closer hold. Fahrenheit's hands were as calloused as she expected; she must have been wickedly strong, and a blush crept up Piper's neck considering this. Especially as Fahr held her hands like both of them were both made of paper mache.

"I'm only surprised you'd be seen with a girl like me."

Piper's brow knitted and she searched Fahrenheit's expression. Had she been that much of an outward asshole about Goodneighbor? No more than anyone would, right?

And therein lies the problem. Piper would mull over that later. God, Fahrenheit's eyes were like armor. Tiny threads of pale blue streaked through them.

There was another kind of nervousness somewhere in the gray, something she couldn't put her finger on and wouldn't poke at without permission. Enough to see Fahr a little differently, though.

Big guns, strong chems, tough words. All quintessentially Fahrenheit. Tonight, she was merely soft and gorgeous.

"A beautiful redhead who looks like she could toss me over the wall like a mutfruit? Come on. You should really get to know me better."

She rolled her eyes, and Piper tip-toed to spin her to the beat of the music.

"Really, Fahrenheit." Piper waited for her to meet her eyes before she continued. "You look amazing."

Fahr's upper lip quirked in surprise, then towards a genuine smile, though she looked like she was bracing herself for something. Was she ever not bracing for something?

"What is it?" she asked Piper in a husky, near-whisper. She'd gone quiet; maybe Piper was as known for being a chatterbox as Fahr was for firepower.

"Nothing, I guess." Piper cautiously pulled herself a bit closer in their step. "Even when you smile, your eyes are still sad."

"I wouldn't take that personally," she said. Her fingers weaved in between Piper's, and she squeezed a little tighter. "Finding my smile is no easy task in the first place, Piper right with a W."
