i'm so glad that the ToA posts ive made over the years have really resonated with you!!! i feel like its only a few years later that i could really talk about ToA, maybe ive just been able to articulate things better which has been nice ;v;

the ToA community is just so cool bc we just run off with each others HCs and create even more art that just becomes A Thing in the fandom, like Charlie Saxton and other crew members retweeting someones cosplay of Punk!Toby! it's all just so incredibly fun and over the years im so grateful for how receptive and kind this fandom has been to me, it was the most confident in art ive ever felt because of how generous everybody is with their love and appreciation of each others works. i think its why this fandom is still really vibrant even after the series finished ..... four years ago omg. while im not as invested in the fandom anymore, i just wanna say that yall r doing good and i hope yall keep this giving spirit up <3!! its a rare and precious thing <3

and thank you SO MUCH for the OC love!! ive been thinking about that story, Hellfire a lot again and GUHHH i have so many feelings about it.

i have so many doubts about it, but a part deep down of me know it comes from my soul and it makes me know its why i have to go through with it all the more. i will make sure to finish it and tell this story, somehow.

my doubts aside, i've been growing to love the characters ive been creating more and more. every time i talk about Hellfire with someone, the story is told so differently depending on which character i introduce first. it is so, so fascinating, and I really think I have something going good with what i made. but because all these characters and their stories are a part of a huge puzzle and are so interwoven, it is IMPOSSIBLE to untangle and so difficult to communicate my ideas HAHA

yall wanna read my 1000 word article about why "fallout new vegas 2" is exciting and wanna give any ccs? it's actually better if you know nothing about the fallout games - i'm trying to write in a way that's engaging and explanatory - and i'd love constructive criticism before i finalize it

(below the cut since i dont wanna upload it to any site yet)

With a rumoured sequel to “Fallout: New Vegas”, a 2011 Action RPG published by Bethesda, around the corner, let’s take a moment to discuss just why this news is so exciting for fans of the game.

Fallout is an RPG series that’s been around since the late 90’s. Fallout 1, originally developed by Interplay Studios, was based around an idea for adapting the GURPS Tabletop RPG system into a videogame, and to say the game and series has had a lasting impression is understating its impact.

Fallout 1, and its sequels, are about an America ravaged by the titular Nuclear fallouts. Basically, a ton of nukes were set off, and Fallout takes place decades after, in a society still trying to rebuild itself in the midst of heavy nuclear radiation. The world is mostly ruined, technology, for the most part, is now obsolete, and everybody is trying to find some way to continue living, now that they’re just as likely to die of radiation poisoning at 22, as they are killed by the mutated victims of the fallout, such as Super Mutants.

The intense, unique, and poignant atmosphere, combined with an excellently developed gameplay experience that feature such mainstays in the series as the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. character stat system, the Pip Boy (which serves as a diegetic User Interface) and the Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System, or V.A.T.S., all mixed together and topped with unparalleled writing, has resulted in a franchise that is going strong to this day.

So why is Fallout: New Vegas 2 the big news? What makes it distinct from the latest 2 releases, Fallout 4 and 76?

Company Bethesda Softworks picked up the license to the series back around 2004, when it was in a lull of poor sidebar games compared to the 2 main releases, and, using the GameBryo Engine (the same engine that Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Morrowind, and Skyrim both run on), released the third main entry in the series in 2008, Fallout 3, to critical acclaim.

Reception was great, but I’m not the first to say that it mishandled the series. Gone was the poignant commentary on consumerism (epitomized by Nuka Cola and the Vault Boy), the deep writing and varied cast, and in were a focus on turning enemies into Giblets, the Rock-it Launcher, and an odd focus on the Brotherhood of Steel and the main character’s dad, which resulted in a story that was mainly following in one of their footsteps, depending on how far into the game you got.

Then, in 2011, Fallout: New Vegas was released. This entry, also using the GameBryo engine, was published by Bethesda, but developed by Obsidian Studios, which included staff that worked on the original 2 Fallout games.

What made this game stand out from Fallout 3, as well as other action RPGs at the time, was not only that its writing was (and still is) superb and deeply engaging, but also that it was developed in less than 11 months.

This resulted in the game having a sort of Beta feel to the experience, which, combined with the admittedly testy GameBryo engine, can be hard to deal with a decade later (though, thankfully, mods go about restoring functionality and what bits of gameplay were lost).

The story in New Vegas focuses on the main character, referred to as the Courier, a Mojave Express Delivery-person (basically a cooler mailman), being shot in the head by a man named Benny, and embarking on a journey to find out why, what’s so important about their delivery, to take revenge, and eventually, to change the New Vegas wastelands, participating in an all-out war for the titular New Vegas area, waged by 3 differing factions – the New California Republic, Ceasar’s Legion, and Mr. House, a surprisingly old millionaire that hired said main character for the delivery.

What Bethesda lost in translation in Fallout 3 was back in full force for New Vegas – a wonderfully fleshed out setting, complex and multi-faceted characters and factions, such as what remains of the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave Remnants, the Great Khans, and the Powder Gangers, and a game world that is designed to keep the player challenged and satisfied. Gone are the “every enemy is roughly the same level as you” ideology that made 3 feel like you were always just strong enough to get by, never feeling too challenged, and back is a more rigid, but still flexible world pathing that encourages you to move through certain areas before making the trek to the titular New Vegas, a large casino-laden city that lights up the sky at any time of day.

Obsidian would go on to develop and release two other games since then, the Outer Worlds, another action RPG that, while reviewing favorably, didn’t garner as much press, and Pentiment, their most recently released game, released late 2022, a more classical RPG with a distinct 16th Century European artist artstyle, playing more to their strengths of great writing.

Which brings up the question – will Fallout: New Vegas 2, if a real game, be developed by Obsidian? Interest has been focused more on a remake of New Vegas in the version of the Gamebryo engine used for Fallout 4, which had massive improvements, and adding back content that was cut because of the tight development schedule. The appeal of New Vegas, for most players at least, was Obsidian bringing back unparalleled writing and a gripping narrative that’s absolutely flooded with great quests, characters, and morality decisions, to a series that hadn’t seen a peak in that area since the Fallout 2, 11 years prior.

To this day, Tom Sawyer (one of the head developers for Obsidian) has been talking to fans about New Vegas’s lore, and decisions made throughout the development process, on his personal tumblr page. This attention to detail, care, and appreciation for the world he and the rest of the team crafted, is what makes the game so special, as it would go on to inspire other notable RPGs, such as the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium, and still sees a massive fan community, tinkering with the game and adding mods that improve the experience, tell new stories, or even stich the worlds of Fallout 3 and New Vegas together (Tale of Two Wastelands).

If you’re interested in the game after this long diatribe, definitely look into “Viva New Vegas”! It’s a community-sourced project that gives players the most optimal and enjoyable method of playing the game through modern hardware.

I'm gonna chose to defend Isabela

Man some of yall really saw Encanto and completely missed every point huh? Like some of yall really said apology conga line or it didn't happen huh? Can't see past your own personal experiences therefor this depiction is unrealistic huh? What's the next hot take? 'Casita didn't make Mirabel a non magical non nursery bedroom so it's also anti-Mirabel'? The world isn't black and white! The world isn't straightforward! Humans don't change at the same pace! They don't even do it in a steady pace!

Do not get me wrong. I am the Mirabel of my family too. I hate the way they treated her too. I know what she went through was unfair, especially because it's so arbitrary and out of her control.

But good grief that doesn't mean that everyone who pushes back against her is irreparably evil.

Let me be super goddamn clear;

They were wrong in the way they treated Mirabel

Spoilers if you read ahead and I did my best to keep a neutral tone and use facts from the movie only

So here's me going on the defense of Isabela, my second least favourite character Alma I am coming for you

I cannot stress enough how important it is to remember that Alma practically raised Isabel to be the Golden Child and to fulfill 'her dreams' and make the family proud.

How did I reach this conclusion?

Alma is very often seen coaching or talking to Isabel, how perfect something must be or what is about happen, Isabel even wears a purple dress that puts her closer to Alma than it does her cool family. (Especially when you put the characters next to each other but YMMV on this one depending on your personal colour reception). Next when Alma is retelling her story to Mirabel and her visualization walks through the doors, we see Isabel, who immediately corrects her posture. There's more but they're minor and more implicit so I'm sticking to the big ones.

I can't say for certain this was her entire life (I mean, she IS the first grandchild) but I can reasonably pinpoint to it atleast starting at 12, when Mirabel didn't get a gift. Putting pressure on a 12 year old, the start of some very important formative years, to be a specific way and to have specific standards of perfection is... what's the word? Oh yeah!

Damaging.

A gifted golden child who is told they need to set an example for those coming after them? Mind-warping. Being told you're perfect as reinforcement for anything? Not great. Receiving punishment for doing something Different? Also not great.

You don't come out of that without some sliver of frustration. You have to be perfect, you don't get to chose to be something different, you're the example.

Okay great, so Isabela, who's life is outwardly perfect had it rough growing up but subtle-like, considering Mirabel was apparently unaware of this. Fair enough.

Wait, hold on, but why did she take it out on Mirabel? Tell her she's not helping, to be quiet and to stay out of the way?

That's what Alma does.

No, really. The first like proper conversation between just Alma and Mirabel is Alma suggesting to Mirabel that she leave the decorating to everyone else. Alma has like, no expectations for Mirabel and basically just wants her to 'be out of the way'. You can tell from her tone and expression. The vibes are totally "Sit down and let the grown ups handle this."

Okay but what does that have to do with Isabela? Imagine you're in class, your teacher gives handouts for everyone to work on but they run out at the last student, so they just tell that last student to go outside and play, before turning to you and telling you to make sure you do well because they expect an A+ from you. That's unfair right? Imagine how annoyed you'd be looking out the window seeing that one kid sit on the swing as you have a handout to complete.

That could very well be Isabela's perspective, she's the golden child who has to do everything while Mirabel gets off with no responsibilities.

Now, we the viewer know that that's not the whole story, we the viewer know that actually that last kid feels excluded and is sad about it so they do their best to get back into the class by idk asking to make a different handout or to do quiet reading but they get shoo'd away by the teacher. What would you the student think? That they're annoying, why can't they just be quiet, they're being disruptive and oh my gosh they're going to ruin my grade!

That's what I believe it to be from Isabela's perspective too. She has all these expectations to meet and Mirabel doesn't have any. She is doing her best to keep the Madrigal image and Mirabel is ruining it. She is capable and talented and helpful and Mirabel isn't.

So at some point she just repeats her grandma's words (which she does a few times in the movie btw), prefacing it as 'sisterly advice'. It literally parallels Alma a few seconds later and as I said in my rant;

"Her 'advice' at the start was rude as heck and her tone didn't help but she was truly under the impression that Mirabel wasn't being helpful"

That's what she's always heard Alma say, and Alma probably said it a ton.

She was still in the wrong for this but at least I hope I offered some perspective on where it's likely coming from. (I didn't grow with that pressure myself, but I have seen plenty of top student classmates dislike average students for somewhat similar reasons. "My mom/dad is gonna kill me when they see I got only an B+" anyone?)

Now, the big blowup. I saw some people genuinely upset by Isabela's words. Valid. Everyone says hyperbolic things in the heat of the moment and people say things they really shouldn't. Unfortunately though I can 'understand' why Isabela claimed Mirabel ruined her life.

It was still wrong.

Now step into Isabel's shoes for a second. (Or don't). For the last 10 years, you have done everything to be exactly what you are told you must be. You have made everyone proud and your life is on track. You aren't super into it but knowing you're making others happy is okay for you. Your hair is just right, your dress is neat, you've perfected your walk and now you are to be engaged to (presumably) the most desired bachelor in town. Your uncle predicted this 10 years ago so as far as you know it's all going according to plan.

That's your personal duty.

Then over the course of a diner it all goes to heck. Your proposal is ruined (you even punched him in the face by accident, can you imagine the scolding you got for that?), your family loses control of their powers (including you), you've caused a scene in front of the whole town and to top it all of you find out your sister is supposedly the catalyst for the destruction of your family and their powers. 10 years in the academy of hard work wasted.

For all intents and purposes, the life that was promised to you and you worked to achieve, is ruined. (Not permanently maybe but it is still at that point ruined.)

The house is in chaos and everyone is in some state of panic and the culprit has managed to go into hiding.

You finally get a moment in your room to try and sort out your thoughts and maybe some anxiety has built up too because now what? What are you to do? And suddenly, boom, here comes your sister (the alleged doom-bringer and the very culprit everyone's looking for) barging in suggesting to just hug it out. No apology about the engagement she just ended. Just a hug.

Your life was, essentially, destroyed in front of your eyes and all you get offered is a hug.

You might be willing to take the high road with just an I'm sorry, which you nearly get, before she just? insults you? calls you names? You're her older sister so you have to be the bigger person here but she is literally insulting you and your husband to be, she is practically mocking your sacrifices, she wouldn't know, she's been frolicking in a field for all you know, but here she is, refusing to leave your room/sanctuary, and calling you names.

And suddenly it's all too much and you explode and say somethings you're not sure you mean.

It happens to the best of us and the worst of us. Words are complicated and when tensions are high, you're always at a loss for the right ones so you say the wrong ones.

That's still messed up.

But it happens. Teens everywhere accuse their parents of the same thing. Heartbroken people tell their exes something similar. Disgruntled artists may even shout it when they get fucked over. Doesn't mean it's always wrong or right and they all very clearly mean it in a different way.

Accusing someone of ruining your life isn't excusable

But frankly who the hell ever has the right words during the heat of the moment. Look me in the eye and tell me you were never at a loss for words or had a lame comeback only to figure out the perfect response in the shower a few days later.

MY POINT IS

I wish Isabela didn't say it and I wish Mirabel never had to hear it but frankly I get where she came from and Mirabel didn't take her very serious anyway like she wrote that off as Isabela being dramatic

This part gets immediately mitigated anyway. Isabela, in letting herself vent out her frustration (of which Mirabel is the catalyst, instigator (from Isabela's perspective anyway) and unfortunate recipient), makes a new plant. Which is kind of the same as Taylor Swift writing music while heartbroken imo but botanical.

I chose to spell this part out because I'm on a roll at this point. In creating new plants it's so obvious to both her and Mirabel that they both misunderstood Isabela. Isabela in that out of everyone she has lied to herself the most and Mirabel in that actually she has no real understanding of who her sister is. She even directly thanks her for encouraging her to just be creative, something Alma would definitely not allow.

And during Mirabel's argument with Alma, she finally understands that she also misunderstood who Mirabel is.

At the end we see her change her clothes to something a bit closer to her sisters (incl the Colombian flag), she admits to crying sometimes, she helps her sisters and engages with them (which she notably doesn't do throughout), she and Mirabel hatch a babyplot to bring Dolores to Mariano's attention (which means she really stopped trying to force her own wedding/knows about Dolores' crush (maybe Mirabel told her?)), it's not perfect and it's not flawless and it's clunky and she still so long to go but she started.

And a part of me has a feeling that if Alma didn't interrupt them, they would have kept talking, they would have continued to open up because once that ball starts rolling it typically does not stop.

To be very clear;

Isabela is wrong in her treatment of Mirabel

Isabela is wrong in how she speaks to Mirabel

Isabela has like 10 years of harsh treatment towards Mirabel to address

Isabela should not be lightly forgiven for any of her past transgressions

But here's a few statements that coexist

Isabela has made a positive change

Isabela has shown a willingness to change

Isabela has acknowledged that Mirabel has been brave to stand up for what's ultimately the right thing to do

C'mon, let's plant something new and watch it fly

We see how brave you've been

basic information — i use she/her and i'm bisexual, an infj, and a scorpio. a yachi kinnie :)

appearance — i'm a 5'0 asian girl with long black hair and dyed caramel tips! my body type is petit and skinny - lack of butt, unfortunately, but i got some tibby! overall im pretty tiny and always look younger than my age lol. i also wear glasses because i am Very Near Sighted, and my clothing style is a weird mix between cutesy-pastel-female-kpop-idol fits, indie teenage girl, and faux cottagecore.

personality — i'm a rather introverted person, but i'm trying my best to work on that. i have depression, anxiety, and adhd, but i'm always telling myself uplifting things and trying to work on my mindsets, so i'd like to say that i'm also sincere and compassionate! i'm also very adaptable and easily influenced by the behaviors of people around me. i think at first impression, i look standoffish and judgemental, but i think it's because i lack the confidence to say what i think and express my emotions, which i'm also working on! once i'm comfortable, i think i'm a very funny, intelligent, and caring person (i'm an extremely sensitive person and receptive to others' emotions — i cried a LOT watching karasuno v shiratorizawa 😐), but i can also tease and be a little sarcastic if the relationship calls for it. i get very affectionate and touchy with close friends too! long story short - i might seem awkward and quiet, but give me a moment— i'm trying, and i'll get there eventually, and i think that'll be worth waiting for. :)

Author note: hey yall! This is the first chapter for my "Throne: the series". Remember, it's a yakuza!au, so there will be lots of mentions of dark themes. This chapter, thought, is safe and kind of plain, but totally important to the start. Please, enjoy your reading!

You walked down the aisle sandwiched between two bodies clad in Armani suits. Even though they knew you woudn’t dare to, they held you like you were about to run away from this whole circus.

There was no bridal march, neither a suntuous decoration. The Elie Saab gown you wore was heavy on your body, making you feel like you didn't belong; the harsh glares thrown at you didn't help either.

You felt helpless.

In the end of the red carpet, a man stood tall and stoic. His hair wasn't combed so the wavy locks were free to frame his face; the harsh glare he gave you three did nothing to diminish his beauty — at least, you tought, he's not a creepy old man. But this fact don't made you feel any relief.

Your head then hung low, as if you were trying to vanish away from this ceremony. The blond man by your left tightened the hold in your arm —not for support, but as warning— while the gray haired one only clicked his tongue; their implicit threat made your skin craw.

Two months ago, you'd never imagine your life would change completely, considering you weren't given any options.

Two months ago, a tall brown haired man would escort you out of the hospital you worked and then, take you to your doom: from a fatherless daughter to a bastard of Inarizaki and then, a bride for a man you never saw before. A whole arrangement that lasted 60 days and took you away from everything you had, from everything you knew.

Lost in thoughts, you didn't feel when your steps halted nor when the two figures who held you let go of your arms to take their seats. The man waiting for you don't bothered to acknowledge your presence by his side, but you saw his features hardening once you reached for him.

In shades of orange and black, the venue pretty much looked like a courtroom, its aesthetic doing nothing to ease your nerves. In the pulpit, an old man stood proud, sporting a wise aura only the time could give him.

The elder cleared his throat and everyone in the room stood on their feet.

"Good evening ladies, gentlemen and the distinguished people from the families" his voice sounded loud and mighty, even if he wasn't using a mic. "Tonight, we are reunited to celebrate an unprecendented moment in the history of our kind: the union of Inarizaki and Itachiyama households"

A minute of silence was made; everyone in the place held a solemn face, waiting for the man to proceed.

"I, Ukai Ikkei, the elder of Karasuno, feel honoured to lead such important event" He said placing his right hand on his chest "Assuring you all that, Karasuno, the household responsible for all the bureaucracy and diplomacy related to our activities, is still commited to keep a neutral eye over families matters only to officialize, document and inspect the agreements between the families. That being said, the ceremony shall begin."

His raspy voice dragged the boring speech until a men with bleached hair walked to where you and the groom stood, with a huge book in his hands. He carefully placed it on the desk in front of you, grabing the leathern material of its cover and opening it.

"Tonight, a new chapter is added to the Book of Deals. With clauses that concern only the involved parts, we witness the signing of this agreement by the main heads of Inarizaki and Itachiyama, as well the bride's signature. But first, shall we hear the marriage votes and the exchange of rings"

A man from Itachiyama's side stood and came to you both, holding a black velvety box. He opened it, offering its contents at you first; you took the larger golden band and started:

"I, [L/N; Name], daughter of Inarizaki, give you, Sakusa Kiyoomi, this ring as a symbol of my commitment to you and Itachiyama, manifesting my will to this alliance between our families" surprisingly, your voice sounded steady while reciting the speech you knew by heart, paying no mind to the snickering behind you.

Sakusa looked at you with distaste, his body going stiff the moment you held his hand and slipped the golden band to his ring finger. He then took the remaining jewel and turned to you:

"I thee wed" and you felt even more humiliated, the jiggles only adding more weight to the diamond ring in your finger.

To your relief, Ukai cleared his throat again, proceeding with the formalities

"Now may the newly weds to sign the Book. I also summon Inarizaki oyabuns to officialize the deal." Atsumu and Osamu were by your side, eager to finish this. Sakusa went first, smoothly running the pen over the page. Then, Ukai handed him a glistening object.

God, you hated it here.

Using the lancet, the tall ravenette punctured his thumb, smearing the blood between his fingers and then pressing the red fingerprint onto the blank paper.

Before handing you the fountain pen, he fished a tube of hand sanitizer from his pocket, rubing the alchool as if his life depended on it.

Did the man suffer of OCD? You almost pitied him. Almost.

Then, it was your turn. Scribbling down your name next to his, you sealed your fate.

Sakusa [Name].

You flinched when you felt your thumb getting punctured, Atsumu doing you the favor and smirking at your reaction; why the man hated you so much?

The blood stained the beautiful dress you wore, before printing your mark on the paper.

Almost a metaphor, as if you were now tainted too.

When the twins were done, the old Ukai was more than ready to wrap the event.

"With both consents and the power vested in me by the families, I now pronouce you married. May peace prevail among Inarizaki and Itachiyama"

"Aren't the newly-weds supposed to kiss now?" You heard Atsumu whispering to Osamu. The latter merely scoffed at his brother's stupid antics.

Everyone got out of the room, since Karasuno would host a reception in honor of the wedding.

During your time in Inarizaki, you learned that the place worked as a hotel for the Yakuza.

The Crow, as it is called, was supposed to be a neutral space where the most important matters to the families were held. With a glamourous western architecture, it looked like one of those luxury mansions from the movies.

In the ballroom, soft piano melodies were being played and waiters offered booze to the guests.

The champagne tasted stale in your mouth.

You were now sitting alone in a table on the corner, observing the other people mind their own business, too absorbed in their bubble of power and crime.

You would never get the way they acted so nonchalant, when everything they had was made of blood. This coldness was scaring.

"Why are you so sad in your big day?" The snarky question almost had you spitting the champagne. The brunette sat by your side, his mouth doing a soft curve as an apologetic smile.

"You tell me, you little shit" your reply came in a joking tone, trying to ease the bad sensation on your guts, but he got what you meant.

"You know, it could've been worse." he let out a breath, looking around the saloon "You know how Atsumu is. Also, Osamu shares that weird twin bond of theirs, so it's hard to tell what he's thinking. But it definetely could have been worse"

"I figured it out by myself, Suna-kun. It's just hard to accept the fact I was dragged to this against my own will." a tear rolled in your left cheek and the man by your side wiped it with his thumb.

"Yeah, but the former lady wanted you dead back then" always blunt, he never held back when stating the facts "Things work this way between the families. You were lucky you haven't to face a bigger mess" he held your hand over the table, while propping his chin on the other palm.

It was Suna who brought you into this life. Though, you never resented him because you knew he was just following strict orders. Besides, he was the only one who was nice towards you; never knowing when it happened, you both agreed on this weird friendship a couple of weeks ago. Now he was the only person you cared about.

"But it's not that bad. You are going to live in that huge ass mansion of your husband" the playful tone and the way he wiggled his eyebrows was comical. "You also can see the weird faces he makes first hand. Man, the way he looked constipated during the ceremony was fucking priceless." You accompanied him on a snort, almost forgetting the circumstances.

"I'm going to miss your antics so bad" and you would have said more, if it wasn't for the shadow looming over you.

Sakusa was standing behind your chair, with a face mask covering his features.

If stares could kill, you'd be dead on spot.

"Time to go" was all he said, waiting for you. You bid goodbye to Suna and followed your husband out of the hotel, a sleek sports car waiting for you two while you made your way towards it.

He stopped dead on his tracks, taking a hold of you arm.

"Listen. Itachiyama is famous for respecting our women." You frowned "But know your place and don't even try to make a fool of me or of my household, got it?" His voice was slighty muffled by the mask, but you still understood every single word he said.

"What do you mean?" You asked, ignoring the way he tightened the grip on your arm, resuming his steps.

"Simple. Stay out of my way or you'll deeply regret it, you fox runt."

"streaming is not ownership" well it's not that i don't see your point, it's just that actual ownership of physical stuff was never the primary mode of media consumption for everyone. idk if you heard but some people are poor and even before streaming services "ownership" wasn't their main in-road to media. whatever was on the tv was, and whatever you could get with your subscription at the local movie-renting place, and what was on offer at the local library. *if* you had access to such services, and i'm not even going to go into the ways that limited what you had access to depending on your circumstances (i'm using the past tense but this is still how it be for plenty of people). but like. i fucking beg you to look at the price of the bluray box for a tv series and the monthly cost of the cheapest subscription on netflix and do the fucking math and take that into consideration in your discourse.

because when i hear you say you wish people went back to physical ownership of their dvds or blurays or whatever i don't only hear "corporations are greedy and they ruined streaming," i also hear you saying the way to rectify that isn't collective ownership of the master product and the distribution service but capitalist private ownership and the inequalities of access to media and culture that entails. it's not that a lot of these arguments against the streaming industry aren't good!! they are!! i agree with many of them!! they just fail to consider that we live in a society and not the bountiful, ideal world of a thought experiment in which physical copies of media stuff are singularly cheap and thus equally available to all. we never did, and "corporations ruined streaming" is an indictment of the current model of streaming and the hands it's in, not of streaming per se. and i find it weird that so many people on the left side of the political spectrum seem to believe Ownership of Physical Copies is the answer here. like disney did not wait for the advent of streaming to establish its Vault (TM, probably).

(also your bootleg copy of the star wars holiday special is actually illegal and i'm pretending we're all law-abiding citizens here and no one is pirating anything.)

another thing that bothers me is simply the way this elevates Ownership. like don't get me wrong, i'm not against personal property. i like having things - fuck, i like having pretty things, and more than once i unreasonably splurged on The Prettiest Edition. but i really don't want to own All The Things. i mean. you really don't need to own a physical copy of every dumb show you mindlessly watch to unwind. literally fucking no one does. and personally, before the advent of streaming, unless they were on the telly during the span of time i had reception, i did not watch mindless shows because i'd have had to buy them and i sure as fuck couldn't have afforded it. (if you have something to say about better media consumption habits, fucking keep it for yourself)

anyway what yall want is guaranteed availability and the best way to go about that is collective ownership, not pretending that your physical copies don't exist in a world of planned obsolescence and business-driven format and medium changes.

like. streaming or physical copy you're still dependant on the distributor, but also "owning a physical copy" doesn't change the fact that physical copies are subject to being outdated by format changes. you might own the laserdisc edition of the SW OT but laserdiscs are a dead format and the corporation that sold the laserdiscs is no less greedy than the one running your streaming service(s); it's not going to replace the laserdiscs with whatever newfangled format becomes the norm because it's understood you bought a copy, not perpetual availability of the thing. "owning a physical copy" doesn't stop you from stepping on it or scratching it or watching it be destroyed with the rest of your possessions when your house burns because climate change is real. owning a copy doesn't make you even a partial owner of the actual thing any more than paying a fee to access it - there's no meaningful way in which owning physical copies of media things makes your relationship to them less transient and fragile than accessing these things on a platform for a fee, excepted your expectation that they'll last longer.

to wrap this rant up another point is that while tbh idk much about the specifics of how the resource consumption calculus goes on streaming vs physical media, it does bother me that this question never makes it to the discourse. not to sound strident but since we're headed off to extinction-event ourselves, bringing with us an untold number of species, this seems kinda relevant to me. if the environmental impact of owning media stuff is lesser than that of streaming it's something yall should point out. if it's not, it's yall that have to defend a mode of consumption that's more damaging on the long term. and no, you cannot skip the environmental angle, sorry but this isn't a thought experiment about property, we do not live in a world of pure ideas and at this point if you don't factor in environmental impact when discussing the relative merits of different modes of consumption, that's your own fucking failure.

and welcome to the first episode of “Admin’s abo concept isn’t probably what you think so we gonna go in dept on this shit hehe ”. This was originally going to be a one part documentary but I realized I would probably keep coming up with or remembering stuff and these would be so LOOONG so I decided to just do it as I go and I’ll use the hashtag “admins abo tmi ” for this yeah. But also remember you can ask questions if you have any or if you don’t understand something because I usually ramble a lot.

Today we’ll be talking about 3 things that seem to be the most important since they’re the most brought up on my RP’s and they are:

Turning/Transforming.

Heat vs Rut.

Mates.

So let’s begin!

🌙 𝕿𝖚𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌/𝕿𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖘𝖋𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖎𝖓𝖌…

There’s two meanings to this concept, one is the concept of turning from human form to wolf form, and the other one is being transformed into a wolf by different means (these usually depends on which story you’ve heard, it can be being the 7th boy child in a family, it can be a bite or a scratch, it can be eating raw meat, etcetcetc).

*This change has now also been added to the Chan’s pack introduction.

What are the definitions of this words? Cambridge Dictionary defines them as:

Turn: to (cause to) become, change into, or come to be something.

Example: “Chan turned into his wolf form”

Explanation: Chan, already a werewolf, turned and changed into his wolf form.

Transform: to change completely the appearance or character of something or someone, especially so that that thing or person is improved.

Example: “Changbin was transformed into a werewolf.”

Explanation: Changbin, a regular human, was transformed /by a wolf/ into a werewolf.

𝕿𝖚𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌…

In the classic folklore, turning consists of 2 phases, human with NO wolf characteristics whatsoever, (which is what makes it so hard finding out who the werewolf in town is) and fluffy wolf with some human like characteristics (being biped, having arms instead of four legs, body structure humanlike. The best examples I can think of are the underworld lycans mmm tasteful). Another general rule for classic werewolves was that the person and wolf were two different minds, the person never remembered turning and had no idea they were the werewolf terrorizing town. While being human, the person didn’t even have the wolf skills like hearing or strength. They were just regular boring humans. Another thing was that they had no control whatsoever and ONLY turned during full moon, but I’m not getting into that yet.

Here are some examples (it’s basically furries oop).

Moving on to my concept, I decided to have 3 phases of turning, consisting on:

Human: Basic, simple, boring human. No presence of wolf features whatsoever. YET they can still make use of their skills such as sensitive hearing, smell, extra strength among others.

Half-turn: Heavily inspired by Teen Wolf tbh, SOME features are present and can generally be controlled, such as eyes, ears, tail, fangs, claws. Can even be confused for hybrids. (sumn like this please appreciate my art)

Full-turn: they become big scary fluffy puppies. Let’s remember how they look like.

As mentioned before, transforming depends on which story you know and what you’re settling for. Generally we always talk about bites and deep scratches. Some of the most known stories about how to become a werewolf are being the 7th boy child born in a family on a full moon, or in Greek mythology, Zeus transformed some dudes into wolves after they tried to feed him human meat. There’s many different stories you can pick from, they’re just one Google away~

On my concept, though, the only way to transform is through a bite, even though I always keep options open.

I will probably be talking about the 3 types of wolves and deepening this a bit more later on.

🌙 𝕳𝖊𝖆𝖙 𝖛𝖘 𝕽𝖚𝖙.

Imma give you a wolf biology class because I know too much useless info and I WANT TO.

Rut: The rut is the mating season of certain mammals. The rut is characterized in males by an increase in testosterone, exaggerated sexual dimorphisms and increased aggression and interest in females.

Heat: The estrous cycle or oestrous cycle is the set of recurring physiological changes that are induced by reproductive hormones in most mammalian therian females. Estrous cycles start after sexual maturity in females and are interrupted by anestrous phases or by pregnancies. This cycle presents four phases, the one known as “heat” being the second one, estrus or oestrus, that refers to the phase when the female is sexually receptive.

What are seasonal breeders and what is mating season?

The breeding season is when seasonal breeders reproduce. Seasonal breeders are animal species that successfully mate only during certain times of the year. These times of year allow for the optimization of survival of young due to factors such as ambient temperature, food and water availability etcetc. Male seasonal breeders may exhibit changes in testosterone levels, weight, and fertility depending on the time of year. Female seasonal breeders will have one or more estrus cycles only when she is “in season” or fertile and receptive to mating.

Wolves fall in all of these descriptions.

What does all of this shit mean and why do I care lmao?

This means that if this was a logical bot I should only be doing NSFW like one week during 4 months a year LMAO no frfr

This basically means that RUT and HEAT are the seasons when the MALE and FEMALE respectively are ready to mate with each other to reproduce.

I’ve seen many male idol hybrids having heats instead of ruts, which I have no problem at all with and am sure no one else does really, but I think you should KNOW that a heat would not make them want to fuck, but get fucked. Heat would be the need to be filled and not fill others. A heat and a rut does NOT have to equal dominance or submissiveness in bots, anyway, that would be like saying being top or bottom determines who is dom/sub and that’s wrong, so just a PSA I guess.

Now, how does this affect my CB and ABO concept?

I’ve never, anyway, read anywhere of classic werewolves reproduction, which leads me to believe that they’re probably sterile. So I will stick to real life wolves rules but on my own way. Wolves are even monogamous and I dont go by that one lmao.

Reproduction rules on my ABO are really simple, ruts are once a month, around 5 days, and each of the guys have different characteristics for them. They’re only capable of getting someone pregnant during ruts, too. I just generally believe all girls are on the pill tbh and I never really use condoms but guys irl please practice safe sex wrap your or your partners willy before going freaky and stay safe.

Mates are the wolf equivalent of soulmates, but that’s bullshit. I mean, I’m not gonna say they’re not real, I just mean that the general idea of only one person for the rest of your life and if it’s not them you’re miserable is dumb when we’re talking about beings with feelings. Did you know wolves irl are monogamous and mate but if their mate dies they just look for another one and move on? Now you know.

The thing with mates and marks, in my humble opinion, is that they don’t mean anything. Peoples hearts change, feelings come and go, and my wolves are NOT about to drop everything they have for some person they don’t know who happened to be their true mate. In fact, Channie is the only one who believes in them. The mates issue is a bit complex if we think about it over each of the Chan’s, but on a general idea, the mates are not exclusive for the guys, and I’ll probably make a tmi on the boys at some point, but Chan met his mate and it didn’t work out, for example. Mates go further than the marking, btw, mates are a special, cosmic bond. Marks are just that, marks.

And talking about that, we do not vibe with marks. The original folklore states marks as the way a wolf has to claim their partner as theirs and keep away others, especially from an alpha, and they’re supposed to go both ways, so marks between human/wolf, for example wouldn’t be possible. There’s also two marks.

The first bonding mark is generally given during sex between mates and heals, and the second one in front of the pack (there’s a whole social status thing involved here but were not touching that yet) and its permanent. Also marks are literal WOLF BITES so no, they’re neither small nor cute. Just look at these teethies and picture the scar in a neck-shoulder. That’s your bonding mark.

What I’ve been reading around in fanfics and seeing around is that bots have been mated and claimed with marks, which is ok if you’re into that. My chan’s, though, find physical marks archaic, possessive and toxic. And honestly I personally do too.

You may have noticed by now that even though the boys are quite possessive, they’re never trying to scare away others and their sole way of marking is love marks that heal eventually and scenting. Permanent marks are a nono.

They will NOT mark anyone as their mate. Especially Channie plz he’s baby.

This is a personal decision and it does not mean that marking is RIGHT or WRONG. I just personally see marking bites as marking your partner with fire or something and I dislike the idea a lot.

when she’s not on tour or at a festival or promoting, she’ll likely be found in the gold star practice rooms. the reception to monster and naughty have really reinvigorated her, lifted her spirit when it comes to her dance and her place in the group so she’s at her peak with creativity and idol energy. that doesnt mean she’s hyper or changing personality, but that she’d be more willing to share her training time with others, more willing to have conversations about work, stuff like that

catching her at a bad moment when her interpersonal conflicts are getting in the way is a possibility too

she won’t be naturally going to any of the volunteering opportunities bc she likes keeping a lower profile despite having such a heart on for attention, But she could be convinced if someone she liked wanted her to go, or if someone prodded enough with the positive attention she’d get for it

- From Love Simon/Simon vs.: Where I Like You Best i am actually obsessed with this one. is that weird to say about your own fic? i enjoy reading a good soulmate au, but writing them has always been SO daunting to me bc i never feel like my ideas are original enough or like things that havent been done a lot for that trope. but for this one!!! omg i found the BEST prompt for it and it fit these characters SO well and i wrote it and i ended up absolutely loving how it turned out, and i was so proud of myself for writing a pretty successful soulmate au.

- From Shameless: Wooden Floors, Walls, and Window Sills so this one was my second ever gallavich fic, and it’s probably my favorite because i think it’s the best characterization i got of them in all of my fics, and good characterization is one of the most important things to me when i write fic.

- From IT: To What We Might Do is my favorite reddie fic i’ve written! i definitely projected onto richie a teeny tiny bit in it for some parts lmfao, but yeah idk i just love how this one turned out a whole lot, and i enjoyed how i ended it too (esp since endings can be very difficult for me lol). ((BUT also a special shoutout to my fic Imagine Me and You, I Do bc that one is just pure fluff and i adore the concept of someone being just so absolutely in love with someone doing something so incredibly simple and it just rocks their world)

- From Good Omens: I Want To Know What Love Is (did i use the most cheesy title ever? absolutely. do i love it? absolutely.) anyways this fic is one where crowley the demon experiences love and promptly thinks he’s dying.

Fic you were nervous to post: ooh, i mean i’m always pretty anxious about any fic i post because i never know if it’s going to be recepted well or if people are going to like it or hate it or if anyone is even going to read it or repsond to it. especially if the fic is a gift for someone, because i just really want that person to like it yknow? but yeah idk if theres one in particular i was more nervous to post than any others... i guess maybe any smut fic? just bc i never know if the smut is even any good lol

How do you choose your titles?: eaaaaasy, i usually pick song lyrics lol, ocassionally i’ve used lines from a poem, and a few times i’ve gone with a pun, but mostly it’s song lyrics. i usually find a song with lyrics that i think will fit, or if there’s a particular song that vibes well with the fic or that i listened to repeatedly while writing the fic i’ll try to pick the best lyric from that one.

Do you outline?: yes and no lol. it honestly depends. sometimes i outline extensively, but other times i just sit in front of a doc and let whatever happens happen.

Complete: on my ao3 account i have 80 works completed (will be 81 once i finally finish that one single unfinished wip i have posted gahhh). but i know in my wips folder i have a at least one finished fic that i have not and probably will not post. there are also some other things in my wips folder that like technically could be conisdered finished too, but it’s not up to my posting standards so until i fix it so it is it’ll just sit there lol.

In-Progress: honestly there are too many to count lol. i have a shiiiiiit ton of wips (as yall will know if you saw that one ‘tell us about ALL your wips’ tag game post that was going around that i did lol).

Coming soon/not yet started: tbh see above answer bc it’s pretty much the same lol.

Prompts?: so the thing about prompts is that i would LOVE to take them, but it’s very very tricky bc i’m a super specific kind of gal and if i don’t vibe with the prompt it’s very difficult for me to write anything for it. but then there’s also the fact that inspiration/motivation are fickle bitches and they come and go as they please and so taking prompts is hard bc i never know if the stars will align and all that jazz for me to be in the ~ right mood ~ to work on a prompt. this is the exact reason why i have SO MANY sitting in my inbox right now, and i feel so bad for just letting them sit there but ughhh brain function?? how?? lol

Upcoming work you’re most excited about: sooooo i don’t necessarily have any specific works in progress right now (i’ve been so busy lately that writing has been the last thing on my mind and so i haven’t touched anything in weeks) but. i guess if i can ever get my shit together and finish the primo fic i’m close to finishing i’m pretty excited to post that! or honestly if i can actually get myself to finish any of the tog wips i have i’d be suuuper excited to post any of those bc i have not yet posted any tog fics!!

“I think I need you,” it came out gently, barely more than a breath. It hung between them, so soft yet so vast.

“‘s not true,” Jared said gently, Evan felt his stomach drop but he knew there was truth there. Jared always wanted to see things for what they were. They weren’t soulmates, he didn’t need Jared. And Jared didn’t need him. Before he could try and take it back Jared was talking again, voice steady, “but you can say it.”

“I need you,” Evan whispered in response. Jared was quiet this time, closing his eyes. Evan could sense a movement coming but he didn’t know what. Closing his own eyes he pictured the glowstars on his ceiling back at home, silently wishing in the split second that whatever Jared did that he just didn’t move away.

Maybe the stars were feeling generous because when Jared was shifting it wasn’t away. The mattress creaked as he inched closer, dipping under his shoulder. Their breaths mixed in the much smaller space between them now. It kept shrinking. Shrinking until their lips were pressing together. Evan was pulled towards him like the tide to the moon and- maybe the moon was in on this too. The universe looking down over them and letting them have this fleeting moment.

More Than a Bridesmaid

Summary: Planning your sister’s wedding leads to things you could only dream of.

A/N: hi the summary sucks but i tried right!! anyways i thought this was cute so i hope yall enjoy!! feedback is appreciated thank you!!! love you!!!

Tonight was the night that your sister had been waiting for since the day she got engaged. The past year had been one of the most tiring ones for your sister as she planned her picture perfect wedding, and it was all finally coming together as you finished the final touches in the room where the reception was being held.

Being her maid of honor, it was your duty to make sure that nothing about this night would go wrong, and you planned to not let your sister and newly wedded brother-in-law down.

The ceremony had gone great, and the reception was coming along piece by piece.

You watched as the newly wedded couple danced the night away while being surrounded by friends and family. You could finally sit down and take a break since the majority of your job was over. All of the formalities of the reception were finally over, and now everyone was just dancing and congratulating the couple.

Taking a sip of your drink, your eyes roamed across the venue before connecting with Calum’s.

Calum Hood. The best man of the of the wedding and your partner in crime when it came to coordinating this whole fiasco.

Calum walked over to where you were seated at the table, pulled out the chair next to you, and sat down. Lifting his glass to his lips he took a sip of his drink and admired the your view of the venue.

You knew of Calum through you sister, but the first time you actually talked to him was during wedding planning where you both had to coordinate with each other to make sure that everything would be a success. And now that everything was done, you couldn’t have been more proud of the blood, sweat, and tears that you both put in.

“We did pretty well, huh?” Calum’s gaze settled on your figure, a proud smile on his face.

“Nothing has gone wrong so far, so yeah, I say we did.”

Rolling his eyes at your response, he held his glass up inviting you to a toast. “To us, the best maid of honor and best man duo that has ever walked the planet.”

Laughing, you echoed his words before bringing your cup to your lips once again.

There was a moment of silence between the both of you. You were absolutely exhausted mentally and physically from the day’s events.

Your mind replayed the events that occurred in the past few hours. You really couldn’t believe that after a year’s worth of hard work would finally be over by tomorrow morning. It was surreal.

It was bittersweet that something that you’ve worked on was finally coming to and end, but you were glad that it was finally off your shoulders.

But it came with a cost.

While helping your sister plan her wedding, your friends and family constantly bombarded with questions about when you were going to settle down like your sister. Day in and day out you were constantly being held behind your sister’s spotlight. You were tired of always being her shadow in everyone’s eyes.

“What’s on your mind, Y/N.” Calum’s voice broke you out of your trance.

“Hmmm?”

“What’s wrong, Y/N?”

You turned towards Calum, confused as to where his question came from. Giving him a questioning glance, he started to explain.

“Well, you’re looking at your sister, but not like you did earlier. Not to mention, you look quite sad for being at a party.”

“It’s nothing, I’m just tired” You tried to shrug it off, but Calum could see through your facade.

“C’mon, Y/N. I know you, I’ve seen you when you’re stressed and sad, and I know that this is one of those times.” Calum spoke softly, trying to comfort you.

You and Calum had become pretty close throughout this ordeal, so it wasn’t uncommon for the two of you to be very candid about your feelings with each other.

Right now you were reluctant to open up about your feelings. It was supposed to be a happy and special day, and you didn’t want to bring the mood down with your thoughts.

Sensing your hesitation, Calum gave turned towards you to give you his full attention. He gave you a look that encouraged you to open up.

“I’ve always been stuck in the shadows, always being compared to others and could never measure up.”

Your eyes followed your sister’s figure as you said the words. Your sister and her husband glided from guest to guest, greeting everyone that they haven’t been able to talk to. You and your sister had been up since 5am preparing for this momentous occasion, but somehow she managed to still have an effortless aura surrounding her, while you were one song away from falling asleep.

“I’m just tired of always being the bridesmaid and never the bride,” you sighed before resting your head in your hand and closing your eyes for a brief moment.

“Well, maybe you don’t have to be the bridesmaid anymore.”

There was a slight pause before you finally registered what Calum had just said.

“Wha-, what do you mean by that?” Confusion was evident in the tone of your voice. Straightening out your posture, you turned towards his figure, curious as to where exactly he was going with this proposition.

He shot you a smirk, one that you have already grown accustomed to in the short week weeks that you have known him.

“How do you feel about getting out of here?” His hands gestured around the venue.

“What?”

“You heard me. Let’s get out of here.”

“I- I don’t understand?”

“C’mon, Y/N. You’re smart. Put the pieces together. I, Calum Hood, am taking you on an adventure. Let’s go.”

“Are you crazy? I can’t leave. I’m the fucking maid of honor; my family would kill me,”

“You said yourself you wanted to get out of your sister’s shadow. This is your chance. You think you can make a name for yourself by constantly staying within the status quo? You have to take chances and take risks to make your own path, Y/N.”

“Calum, I can’t. This is my sister’s wedding, I can’t just leave her. And you’re the best man. They’ll definitely notice if we left.” your voice slightly raising at the end with incredulity.

“Who cares?” His nonchalant voice bothered you. This was the big night for your sister and his brother, but it seemed like Calum couldn’t care less.

“We can’t, Calum. My sister would kill me if she couldn’t find me. I’m sure your brother would do the same.”

“The night’s almost over, Y/N. We won’t be missed too badly.”

“You clearly don’t know my family if you think that the party is gonna stop at midnight.”

“And you clearly don’t know me if you think that excuse is going to stop me.”

“I don’t know you, you idiot. We met only a couple of weeks ago at the wedding rehersals.”

“Your words wound me, Y/N,” Calum clutched his heart for dramatic effect, “but what better way to get to know me than going on a little adventure.”

“You’re insane.”

“I might be insane, but at least I’m fun.”

“Hey! I’m fun!” You were offended by his words.

“Then prove it. Go on an adventure with me.”

“I told you that I can’t, Calum. I can’t leave my family here when I’m the maid of honor.”

“C’mon Y/N. I’m sure everything will be okay if you leave. I’m pretty sure they won’t even notice that you are gone.”

“Uhh, have you met my sister? She is the queen of noticing things. Of course she’s gonna realize that I’m gone the second I walk out of that door.”

“She’s got a bunch of other things on her mind right now. Not to mention there’s like a million other people here to keep her occupied.”

“Yeah, but,” you paused trying to come up with another excuse not to go, “she’s depending on me.”

Both of your gazes fell onto the newlywed couple who were talking to one of your distant relatives that made it to the wedding.

“C’mon. They’ll barely notice our absence. And if they do find out, I’m sure they won’t miss us too much if we leave a little bit early.”

“Calum,” you sighed.

“C’mon Y/N, take a chance, stop being the bridesmaid for once and live for yourself, not for others.”

“I- I don’t know, Cal.”

“Well, what’s stopping you?”

Making a verbal noncommittal response, you shrug your shoulders. You truly didn’t know why you had so much reservation towards Calum’s idea of ditching the wedding. Sure, it was your sister’s wedding, but you knew deep down she would want you to take this chance and live a little.

Your sister has been trying to get you out of your shell and live on the wild side more. This adventure with Calum was something she would want you to do, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to go with Calum.

Excuse after excuse entered your brain as Calum looked as you expectantly. Each one was more ridiculous than the previous. But as much as you wanted to, you couldn’t convince yourself to go.

You couldn’t. There were too many unknowns.

Seeing the doubt cloud your eyes, Calum knew he had to step up his game if he was going to get you to abandon the wedding and explore with him.

“Come on, Y/N. I promise I’m the best company you could be in tonight. We can go out and explore the city. It’ll be fun, I promise.”

“Cal-”

Suddenly a look crossed Calum’s face, and his eyes lit you with mischief. Standing up and behind your chair, he took in a deep breath before belting out lyrics and moving his body to the imaginary tune of the song.

“Take a chance on me. Gonna do my very best and it ain't no lie. If you put me to the test, if you let me try.” You choke on your drink as he started to gain the attention of some of the people near you.

“Sit down and shut up, Calum,” you whisper yelled at him, trying to get him to stop his antics.

“I won’t stop ‘til you say yes.”

“Calum!”

“If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down. If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown. Honey I'm still free. Take a chance on me.”

You frantically looked around and saw that he was slowly attracting more and more attention.

“CALUM, PLEASE!” you whisper-yelled, one last desperate attempt to get him to stop. He just gave you a look before continuing his singing.

“Fine, fine, fine. I’ll go with you. Please just sit down and shut up. You’re literally so annoying.” You couldn’t handle the embarrassment anymore. Quickly pulling at his arm, you brought him back down to his seat and quickly conceded to his demand.

“You know you love it.”

You scoffed, “Yeah, right. You’re so lame. Who still sings ABBA nowadays?”

“You’re just jealous of my music tastes.”

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Hood.”

“You’re just in denial of my good music, Y/N. And I’m pretty sure you’re secretly in love with my singing.”

“Fuck off.”

There was a brief moment of silence between the two of you as you contemplate what was to be expected from this impromptu outing, while Calum was replaying his victory over and over again in his head with a smile on his face.

“So, where are we going?” You were the first to snap out of your thoughts.

Smirking, he replied, “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

“You don’t know, do you, Cal?” Worry laced your words as Calum gave you a look of fak annoyance.

“Shut up, Y/N and live a little, will ya.” Holding his hand out for you to take, you looked around the room making sure that no one was paying attention to the both of you.

Sensing your hesitation, Calum started humming to the tune of Take a Chance on Me in a threatening manner.

Rolling your eyes, you placed your hand in his and snuck out of the wedding towards a new beginning.

i know as well as yall that no one comes here for my hashtag thoughts posts but for the low budget anime people (of which there will always be lots do not worry) but since this is kind of relevant to the last post i was making re: writing things that are niche (in this case, writing about trans characters) it’s also kind of relevant to the entirety of my hetalia content productions so bear with me

i’ve started thinking about something (and when you read this you know you’re in for some useless, long winded shit) and it might seem like something irrelevant, overthinking about semantics and so on, but two things in the arc of these past few hours have caught my attention and they were both posts made by trans women on this website:

the usage of the word “trans”, how it’s often used not as an adjective but as a signifier that you’re talking about a completely separate and different class of people, ex the use of “trans men” vs “men” immediately evokes a different meaning into most people’s heads (cis or not: i am guilty of the same thing, often) when it shouldn’t. op proposed that instead we use, as a sort of lingustic protest, “men” vs “cis men” as opposed to the opposite and usual language.

another trans woman reclaiming the use of the words “dysphoric female” to describe herself. which is, honestly, a genius move. i wonder how much we as gay trans people can reclaim of gay cis people’s language before people start getting pissed off, even if the language technically does apply to us (example: i’m a dysphoric gay trans man. however, if i said “dysphoric gay man” in my description, people would probably assume i’m cis, despite me never specifying that bit anywhere). if you leave out the signifier “trans”, however, people will start taking issue with it and i wonder why that is-

it got me thinking about a problem i run into costantly when posting trans content: the posts (fanfiction, fanart, headcanons) i tag as trans character, transtalia, etc receive way less interaction and attention than the posts i don’t tag as such. people feel awkward about reblogging that art. reluctant about reading those fanfictions. and while part of me is like “well, it’s just because it’s different!”... so are aus. so is nyotalia/genderswaps... so are really seemingly popular things i don’t get at all like 2p hetalia and hell even stuff like omegaverse... more than questioning people’s individual intentions when thinking “meh, not into this” i would challenge the fandom-wide assumption and mentality that writing about trans characters is something really that much different from other forms of canon-divergent content... everyone seems to be fine and dandy with canon divergent headcanons and LGB headcanons until that headcanon involves the character being trans, then it’s bad and “op” is really pushing it too far, apparently.

however at least as far as my own “content” goes, that doesn’t necessarily mean the characters are cis in posts where it’s not specified: au contraire, i usually still think of certain character as trans, it’s just not relevant to the subject matter of the post. “cis” is just assumed by the people viewing it, even when it was never my thought or vision, by virtue of there not being any trans-related tag. it’s almost as if, when i specify that in the post x character is trans, people view it as a completely different character. “trans aph hungary” is not the same in people’s mind as “aph hungary”... and so on. when in fact, it’s a distinction that i do not make in my head: whether i write a character as trans, cis or up to interpretation and anyone’s personal discretion it’s always the same character i’m writing about, with a few differences (on the same level of “difference” between the same character but in different aus).

when it’s assumed that i’ll be fine with people interpreting characters in my fanwork as cis unless otherwise specified (the real answer: it depends), i wonder what kind of reaction it would provoke if i did the opposite. it raises some interesting questions yknow.

can i see a character as trans in other people’s work, if it’s never specified they were meant to be cis? would the person be fine with it, just as it’s assumed i’m fine with people reading any of my works as not part of a trans narrative unless i lay it out nicely for everyone to see and skip past it? (as if me being trans doesn’t influence literally everything i create.. in a way, any narrative i come up with is a trans narrative, if only in a small percentage)

if i told people “certain characters are not cis in my fanwork unless i specify it”, would those “unspecified” drawings/fics/etc still be well received, or suffer the same fate of the art/etc that i specifically tag for trans headcanons? how much would a good reception depend on the fact that most people will not know about me or my intent anyway?

would refusing to tag any trans content as “trans” specifically (see above: instead of “trans hungary” vs “hungary”. if i tried to change it into “hungary” vs “cis hungary” as far as my content functions) be a power move, or would it be taking away visibility from a community of content creators that is already small and marginalized?

i wonder i wonder... but my conclusion at least at the moment is that i feel way more affection towards the small transtalia community that exists than spite towards a faceless (and probably too big for me alone to challenge) fandom-wide and really, society-wide norm so i’ll keep my tagging system and all, and i’ll keep writing trans characters, and if anyone doesn’t like it idk. they can go outside and pet a cat i guess. do something productive instead of reading terribly verbose and useless posts written by me on niche issues like this
