A Little Family Time - Lafayette & Denver, CO
Aside from catching up with a few friends, we have had a chance to spend some time with our kids and their partners during our time in the Denver/Lafayette area. Rachel and Tyler (and Samson) have been our wonderful hosts for our visit. They are always so generous and welcoming when their "homeless" family comes to town! They took us to several wonderful eateries for some amazing vegan food - City O' City, Cake Bar, Vegan Van, and Meta Burger - to name just a few. We also played a little pickleball - with Rachel, Tyler, Dan, Jaimie, Rob, and Rhonda - unfortunately, I did not get any pictures of that action. We also played a couple of times with just Rachel & Tyler. We also did an escape room (which we finished with 12 minutes to spare) and a cidery (Acreage - a very cool spot with awesome views).
My strawberry & chocolate cake cup from Cake Bar - so rich!
A picture of picklers.
An escape room with adult beverages!
A cider flight at Acreage by Stem Cider.
Oh, we might have been at a brewery or two during our visit, this one was located at Edgewater Marketplace - where we met the kids for dinner one evening.
We had a great time, we really appreciated friends & family taking time out of their schedules to spend with us. Rachel & Tyler - you guys are awesome AirBnB hosts - 10 star rating out of 5!

Sloan's Lake BEER FEST: Know Before You Go
Colorado is a beer-loving state, as we all know. So, thank goodness there are opportunities like the beer festival, put on by Gum Pop Presents & BEER FEST CO, to show off the scene in a multi-faceted way. There are two BEER FESTs coming up at the end of this summer, in the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood on August 19 and one in the Park Hill neighborhood on September 9. To get you prepped for what to…

Hello! Weird question, but do you know any good fabric/sewing supply stores in CO (preferably Denver metro area) other than Jo-Ann? My bf is in CO and can't find anything. A thorough internet search has turned up only knitting stores and like one place in the Springs. Thanks!!
Allyn's Bridal And Milnery Supply has every specialty fabric ever (it's where I got the fabric for BUNNI) It's in Englewood. It's one of those magical "It's bigger on the inside" places. It's a bit of a schlep but you can't beat Lyons Quilting in Lyons, CO. Absolutely worth the trip, then go have lunch at the Oskar Blues brewery restaurant.
Wooden Spools is a Yarn and quilting store with limited but well-curated fabric stock and a SHITLOAD of quilting and tailoring supplies
Treelotta has a much larger fabric selection and a good supply of other craft supplies too. I haven't been here in person but they filled an online order for me asap last year.

I’m drinking THE BEST BEER. The last time I had this was in New Mexico a few years ago. I had it on tap and it was so good I got a case to bring back to Colorado.
I actually emailed the brewery and asked if the beer was available in Denver. They said no; Ska Brewing handles their distribution in southern Colorado but they hadn’t expanded to Denver.
Today, years later, I went to Total Wine. One of the things that I was tasked to get was “a beer that we can split,” which essentially means “a beer that I like that isn’t too dark.”
The craft beers are arranged alphabetically, so just for shits and giggles, I looked near the Lagunitas. Holy shit, there it was. And just this one: Marble Double White.
🥹
Somehow, amid the sea of IPAs and lagers, they managed to stock THE BEST BEER.
So yeah. I’m a little tipsy and a lot happy. 🍻

Todays side by side was IPA’s with blue labels. First up was Harpoon IPA from Harpoon Brewery out of Boston, MA. My first time having this one & it was a decent, fairly middle of the road iPA. Next up was Escape to Colorado IPA from EPIC Brewing out of Denver, CO. I did not remember this one but untappd says I tried it back in 2020. I liked it better this time than I had it rated. Before I had listed it as hoppy & floral, today’s was more citrusy. Neither of these was one I would go actively seeking out, but I wouldn’t turn either down if I had a chance to have them again.

This is going to continue to be a blog of random travel updates until next week.
But we found a Gothic fashion store. And oddities. And a metal brewery.
Denver is making a hard case against my current home and we haven't even gone hiking yet.

Well, when I fall, I fall hard…
There was the start of the late afternoon with this guy here:
Let me just say that 12.2% abv X 4 …. almost made me accept my reality of not being able to get that Kanas City project. Then again, if they ask me to go later this year…I will. And run up a large bill at this brewery. Bet your ass I’m eating the BBQ if I’m there.
So I also found this at my local liquor store. Who am I to turn down a Farmhouse Ale, especially when there are blood and axes in the marketing. Not to mention a Nordic accent.
One of Denver’s TRVE gems, pun intended.
Needless to say the wife™️ is probably thoroughly pissed at me for drinking 8 beers tonight…but what do I care? It’s not like I’ve never slept on the couch before.
Also, my Father is having some medical procedure he knows nothing about next week or so…because he just has to have his other hip replaced ASAP. All so he can sit on his ass and watch MSNBC and complain about politics that don’t remotely apply to him.
Damn.
I thought I wouldn’t make it this far in life. This is some bullshit.
I want off this ride. Can I go home now?
If only I can stay in a state of perpetual intoxication.
