I haven't updated about Murphy since March, so I might as well do that.
Tumblr media
(He found a bag and some tissue paper. They're his now.)
Short answer: he's okay at the moment. It's been weird but he's okay right now.
Long answer under the cut.
We've had a verrrry weird time with health stuff. The diabetes was actually temporarily in remission when the ER said he didn't have it, but it's back now and he's doing well on insulin. Whatever is going on with the pancreas nodules, he's acting like himself for now, so I'm enjoying all the time I can with him, whether it's months or years.
He has, however, been having issues with his few remaining teeth. He had an abscess in his cheek that we had to get drained and treated with antibiotics, and then when no veterinary dentist near me would take new patients right away, he got another one a few weeks later in his sinuses, which ended up making him look like a horn was about to sprout from his head, or perhaps Athena. It got so big that he couldn't open his eye.
Tumblr media
Murphy managed to take care of that by himself by scratching at himself, which meant that I spent a Sunday night at 11:30 pm draining pus out of his head.
Tumblr media
After that, he recovered and with some more antibiotics he was able to open his eye fully again. He's currently waiting to have his teeth potentially pulled, and he has antibiotics to prevent any new infections until then. Hopefully once that's taken care of I won't have to worry as much and can just enjoy the rest of his life with him.

Why Regular Dental Check-Ups Are Crucial for Your Oral Health
Why Regular Dental Check-Ups Are Crucial for Your Oral Health
Tumblr media
1. Early Detection of Dental Issues
Regular visits to a dental clinic near you are crucial for detecting dental problems early. Dentists can identify issues such as cavities, gum disease, and oral infections before they escalate. Early diagnosis allows for prompt treatment, which can prevent more serious complications down the line.
2. Professional Cleanings
Despite diligent home care, plaque and tartar can still build up on your teeth. Professional cleanings at a reputable dentist in Ghaziabad effectively remove these deposits, reducing your risk of cavities and gum disease and keeping your teeth in optimal condition.
3. Monitoring Gum Health
Gum disease is a common issue that can lead to tooth loss if not addressed promptly. Regular check-ups at the best dental clinic in Ghaziabad enable your dentist to monitor the health of your gums and provide treatments to prevent or manage gum disease effectively.
4. Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can be challenging to detect in its early stages. During your check-up, your dentist will perform a thorough examination to identify any abnormalities or early signs of oral cancer. Early detection is crucial for effective treatment and better outcomes.
5. Personalized Oral Health Advice
During your visit, a skilled dentist near you will offer personalized advice on improving your oral hygiene practices. This tailored guidance helps you maintain a healthy mouth and address specific concerns or needs you may have.
6. Evaluating Existing Dental Work
If you have previous dental treatments such as fillings, crowns, or braces, regular check-ups are essential to ensure these remain in good condition. Your dentist will assess the status of these treatments and make necessary adjustments to keep your dental health on track.
7. Detection of Systemic Health Issues
Your oral health can reflect broader health conditions. A routine check-up at a dental clinic near me might reveal signs of systemic issues such as diabetes or heart disease, prompting you to seek further medical evaluation if necessary.
8. Cost-Effective Care
Investing in regular check-ups at the top dental clinic in Ghaziabad can save you money over time. Preventive care is generally less expensive than treating advanced dental problems. Addressing minor issues early helps you avoid costly and extensive treatments.

The Silver Dollar Nightclub and a family atmosphere
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/the-silver-dollar-nightclub-and-a-family-atmosphere/
The Silver Dollar Nightclub and a family atmosphere
The first gay bars I went to — places like the Silver Dollar in the late 1970s — were wildly different to the clubs of today – certainly they had a family atmosphere.
There was lots of seating — somewhere comfy for Nan. It was not unusual to see older folk on a night out. After all, Queensland clubs were legally restaurants. Premier Joh Bjelke Petersen was opposed to excessive alcohol drinking.
The Brisbane gay and lesbian population, or the kamps, as they tended to term themselves, arranged discreet parties that, sadly, did risk police raids. One party at Norman Park arranged by the notorious Freda Mae West got broken up by later Commissioner Terry Lewis. Equally notorious characters like Dame Sybil von Thorndyke and Toye De Wilde hosted inner city events which often ended with queens hoiking their skirts and leaping picket fences to escape the cops. Events like that inspired young queens to arrange remote events like the famed Queens Ball at Mt Tambourine to escape the authorities.
With the opening of more discreet events in the late seventies, Brisbane’s kamp population found a better level of protection.
Usually, a business conglomerate big enough not to worry about the Country Party owned a pub as one of a chain. Or a venue owner might make sufficient occasional payoffs to the local cops to feel protected from the forces of the law.
Sunday was a notoriously bad night for grog sales in Brisbane. Joh didn’t want to allow the church’s competition, so pubs opened for a maximum of four hours.
Drag Shows
The few kamp venues ignored liquor laws and began ignoring the laws.
Army Dentist
Openly gay guys and lesbians had no problems coming to the Silver Dollar. But some kamps still preferred ostensibly straight venues. A gay army dentist from New Farm hesitated to haunt the legendary Brunswick gay haunts after dark.
So when he learned of the near-monthly drag shows some of us worked at in the suburbs or regional southern towns, he became a regular whether the show was in Hervey Bay or on the Gold Coast hinterland.
The events were often on a Sunday, and designed to benefit a local sporting team. With the venues far enough away to avoid the attention of the wallopers, everyone made money.
I often chatted with the army dentist during the night. He explained that he went there to meet guys who thought: Oh, a female impersonation show. There’ll be guys there who like dicks. But to all appearances, it was just a nice family show raising money for the local sporting team.
There’d be no action until after it was all wrapped up for the night.
So, the dentist chatted to me, checked out single male customers and made his plans for later.
One night, he told me he had someone who wanted to meet me.
A young soldier who’d booked for a dental consultation at the barracks had asked if he was gay.
A straight transvestive
Yes, he said.
Do you know any transexuals?
The young bloke was a straight transvestite — a bloke who liked to wear female clothing and have sex.
23, tight jeans, army crew cut, the dentist was disappointed to miss out, but always a nice guy and ready to help out others.
Peter, as he was named, turned up to the next show at Ipswich.
OMFG. We didn’t say that then. But if we had!
Later, he offered a lift home to New Farm.
In bed, he stroked my lacey skirt and praised my sexy knickers.
“They won’t taste too good,” I said. My dick’s been taped back for 4 hours.
But then he licked the tape from it and ever so gently licked the beast free.
Finally, he offered a view of his knickers.
“My knickers are gorgeous, too. ”
They were!
I burst into tears.
“You’re wearing women’s underwear.”
“I’m a woman.” I cried.
It was all a little confusing, but I soon felt a greater level of understanding as his tongue snuck back below my waist. In a grand finale, he wiped some lube over my cock, put his hands on my shoulders, bounced up and down three times, and shot across the room three times.
I’d never known anything like it! In the next few weeks, I passed him around to numerous friends.
I told you seventies bars had a family atmosphere.

Larnaka SEO: How to Rank Your Website Locally in Larnaka, Cyprus
Tumblr media
If you're a business owner in Larnaka, Cyprus looking to improve your local search rankings, this comprehensive guide will walk you through the process, step-by-step. By following these local SEO best practices tailored specifically for Larnakiotes, you can attract more customers searching for businesses and services in your area. Let's dive in and get your website ranking higher locally. Choosing Effective Local Keywords for Larnaka As with any SEO strategy, selecting the right target keywords is crucial for local rankings in Larnaka. Your keywords should be: - Locally Relevant - Include "Larnaca" or nearby cities/areas you serve. Some examples are "Larnaka plumbers", "cafes in Larnaka", or "Larnaka computer repair". - Specific - Avoid generic terms like “restaurant” or “hotel”. Use long tail versions like “vegan restaurants Larnaka”. - Search Volume - Look for keywords with adequate local monthly search volume using Google Keyword Planner or tools like SEMrush. - Low Competition - Don’t go for the most competitive keywords right away. Find less competitive options you can realistically rank for within 6-12 months. - Relevant - Only target keywords directly related to your niche, products and expertise. Here are some potential good keywords a bakery in that city could target: - Bakeries near me in Larnaka - Best pastries in Larnaka - Gluten free bakery Larnaca - Custom birthday cakes in Larnaca 👉 Note: many foreigners use Larnaca. Yes, it is a typo, but a very commonly used one. So be there when they use that keyword too. Focus on intent-driven phrases locals are searching. Avoid generic keywords and target more precise, low competition options ideal for ranking locally in the area. Optimizing Your Website Content Once you’ve identified your target local keywords, it’s time to optimize your website content around them. When creating or updating local Larnaka pages on your site, be sure to include keywords in: - Page titles - Header tags (H1, H2, H3) - Image file names and alt text - URL structure - Meta descriptions - Body content While optimizing, avoid awkwardly overstuffing keywords. Keep the content natural and focus on offering local value. For a restaurant, categories could include “Larnaka Restaurant Reviews” or “Date Spots in Larnaka”. Tailor content to help local searchers. Building Locally-Targeted Landing Pages Creating dedicated landing pages around some of your top local keywords can further optimize your site. For example, a dentist with a brick-and-mortar shop in the city could have targeted pages like: - Emergency Dentist Larnaka - Pediatric Dentist Larnaca - Dentist Open Sunday Larnaka Craft pages that specifically answer intent for each keyword, rather than just generic location/contact pages. Optimizing Your Google My Business Listing Your Google My Business profile will likely appear prominently in local pack results, so ensure yours is fully optimized. Key optimizations include: - Accurate business name, address and phone number - Detailed service categories relevant to Larnaka - Local area served - Images showing your local business - Descriptions highlighting your Larnaka location - Attributes like opening hours, menus, and parking etc. This helps reinforce your business information across Google for local searches. Listing on Relevant Directories Expand your visibility by claiming and optimizing free listings on top local directories beyond Google, like: - Facebook Local Business Page - Yelp - YellowPages.com.cy - Local parenting or restaurant guides - Larnaka Chamber of Commerce directory Ensure your NAP details are consistent across all directories and listings. Networking Locally in Cyprus's Capital City Connect with local businesses, events and organizations in the capital city, to build awareness. Some ideas: - Sponsor local teams or events - Partner with complementary businesses on promotions - Join and engage with the Larnaka Chamber of Commerce - Support local charities and fundraisers Becoming an engaged part of the Larnakiotes community can strengthen your local visibility and relationships. Generating Reviews Positive local reviews help establish your reputation and social proof. Make reviewing easy for customers on Google, Facebook and third-party sites. Aim for 20+ high-quality city reviews. Creating Link-Worthy Local Content Produce blog posts and web pages that offer value specifically to Larnakiotes. For example: - Things to Do in Larnaca This Weekend - Guide to Larnaca’s Best Restaurants - Upcoming Events in Larnaca Getting this local content featured on local news sites, blogs, directories etc can earn valuable links and exposure. Provide helpful content they want to reference. Tracking and Monitoring Results Use tools like Google Analytics and Search Console to monitor your local SEO efforts in the area. Track metrics like: - Keyword rankings - Local organic traffic - Customer reviews/sentiment - Directory listings - Backlinks from local sites Refine your strategy based on what’s working and what areas need improvement. Local SEO requires diligent tracking and iteration. Conclusion With the right focus on local optimization factors tailored for the local customers, you can drive more local website visibility to attract customers searching for your products and services in the area. Follow this comprehensive guide to local SEO success in Larnaka. Be patient and persistent. Over time, you can build an authoritative local presence that brings in more local leads and sales. 👉 For learning how to rank locally for search traffic in Limassol, we prepared for you this Limassol SEO guide Read the full article

Learning Curve
Four out of five dentists would recommend against reading this piece (1.7k). Think of your teeth!
“Uncle Harry, did you know Uncle Draco is a weredragon?”
“A what now?” he frowned, tucking the duvet under Teddy’s chin.
“A weredragon. Like how dad was a werewolf, but with a dragon.”
Harry huffed a small chuckle. “I’m pretty sure he isn’t, Ted.” To be fair, considering all the things he’d learned about him since Malfoy adopted Teddy, Harry wouldn’t be too surprised if he actually turned out to be a weredragon. It won’t even be the most shocking discovery.
“No, he is. All the best people are were-something, he said. So he’s a weredragon.”
Harry resisted the temptation to ask if he was a were-something, too. “All right then, menace, go to sleep. You can tell me on Sunday if you’d seen him turn.” He shook his head through all the begging, bargaining and trickery, until Teddy finally relented and closed his eyes. Harry chewed on his grin, pressed a kiss to Teddy’s forehead, murmured in his ear and left, silently closing the door behind him.
And then heading out with his usual gracefulness – accidentally knocking into the dresser with a big yelp, stepping over every creaking floorboard, smacking against the door because he wasn’t really looking ahead, he was looking for – ah. Malfoy heard him, it would seem. Standing at the kitchen doorway, leaning against it like some sort of model in a Muggle magazine, rolling his eyes. Harry noticed he was holding his breath.
“Care to join me for a drink, Potter?”
He didn’t know why he was nervous. This happened every night.
The thing is, Harry loved Teddy so much. So, so much, he even considered adopting him himself after Andromeda and all. But Harry’s stupid job was too stupid to allow it, and Malfoy was technically ‘family’. And so Harry came by every day – well, night, stupid job and all – to see how Teddy was doing. And then, every night, he’d run into Malfoy, who had no choice but to invite him for a drink. It would be wine, sometimes, or flavored butterbeer, or – and only once – straight up Ogden’s whisky. But mostly it’d be hot chocolate, which apparently was something Malfoy enjoyed, and something Harry seemed to find quite irresistible.
Of all the new things he’d learned about Malfoy, this was perhaps one of the most surprising. He made the best hot chocolate. It was the perfect temperature, the perfect sweetness, the perfect texture. Perfection in a cup. Harry followed him into the kitchen, sat in his favorite chair (somewhat dangerously with the way Malfoy’s books were stacked so high behind his back), and turned his gaze to the fridge. Teddy’s newest masterpiece was magicked to the door, and even squinting Harry couldn’t tell what it was meant to be.
“A wolf,” Malfoy muttered as he laid a cup of hot cocoa before Harry. “Your godson is very talented, you know.”
Harry hummed into his cup, probably smearing his nose full of whipped cream. “Bet you I could draw a better one.”
He waited. Some nights Malfoy wasn’t in the mood. He’d be tired, or closed off, and they’d just sit there in silence and stare. Some nights he was restless, far too giddy to stay still, and they’d go for a walk in the forest. But tonight –
Tonight Malfoy was game. He scoffed and summoned two quills and some parchment. “Let’s see – five minutes, best drawing wins?”
Harry grinned privately to himself. There must have been something in that hot chocolate, because he couldn’t stop thinking about how he just loved spending nights at Wiltshire.
*
“Uncle Harry,” Teddy asked one Sunday, sliding into his wellies. “Did you know that Uncle Draco had a pet a stag?”
“What?” Harry was busy arranging a beanie on his orange hair with his tongue between his teeth. “A pet stag?”
“Yeah, when he was a kid. I asked him why he likes them so much, and he told me. His name was Arold and he was very stupid, Uncle Draco said.”
“Arold?” Harry laughed, tilting his head. “Ted, you know Uncle Draco is messing with you, yeah? He never had a pet stag. You can’t have stags as pets.” Malfoy had peacocks, which he hated, and the eagle owl, which he loved, and that was that. No stags. Harry knew that. He picked up every single piece of information about Malfoy slowly, carefully, and catalogued it all in his head. Malfoy was afraid of hippogriffs (still) and very enthusiastic about nifflers. He wanted a kneazle really badly as a kid, but his mother was allergic to the fur. Harry knew these things, now. He even had this insane idea to get a kneazle for him and Teddy, a fantasy he liked to entertain from time to time. Teddy’s words brought him back to reality with his cheeks oddly flushed and his ears ringing.
“That’s what he said.”
Harry wondered why Teddy thought Malfoy liked stags to begin with, but he’d already ran outside and jumped into the nearest puddle, so the question had to wait.
Malfoy was in the kitchen when they returned, and Harry plopped down next to a steaming mug of hot cocoa. The clutter all around practically screamed we actually live here, and Harry felt the warmth of it in his bones. His eyes kept zooming from Malfoy, to Teddy, happily blabbering about the squirrel they’d seen on their walk, and something in him thrummed. We actually live here. The flavor of want was sweet and sadly familiar.
*
“Uncle Harry,” Teddy asked one night in November, a tired little bundle of curiosity that ached in Harry’s chest with affection, “What’s emveeos?”
“Huh?” Harry stopped at the doorway, eyebrows drawn.
“Emveeos. Like if I was emveeos of someone.” Teddy gave him an exasperated little look, a come on you should know this one when Harry simply shook his head. “Uncle Draco said he’s emveeos of me.”
“What? When?” Harry’s heart did a funny little leap. He still didn’t really understand the question, but apparently the mere mention of ‘Uncle Draco’ was enough to ignite this heat inside him.
“Because you always kiss me good night.”
Harry could only shrug, but the heat intensified into something near intolerable. “I dunno, Ted. Best to ask him tomorrow, yeah? You know Uncle Draco is better at these things.” Better at most things, really. Cooking, drawing, writing, teaching. He was just good at everything. Even dancing – Harry had seen photographs of a very sulky boy beautifully performing the tango, no joke. And he could make the best hot chocolate. And –
“Okay. Good night, Uncle Harry.”
“Good night, Menace. I love you.” Harry made sure to tell him that every night, even if Teddy was already asleep. It was good for him too, he thought, to get the practice.
That night there were mini marshmallows in the mug. Harry couldn’t help it anymore; he was so enamored with the – drink – it felt a little like an explosive device in his chest. He found a way to distract Malfoy for a couple of seconds while he covertly drew a vial of the cocoa, stashing it in his pocket. There had to be something wrong with it, a potion or something. There had to, or Harry was losing his mind. He’d lost enough things for a lifetime, he thought.
*
“No, Uncle Harry! Cookies first.”
It was the week before Christmas, and Malfoy was out on a last minute gift shopping trip. Harry and Teddy were in the kitchen together, in charge of lunch, though Teddy was more interested in sampling the Christmas cookies Malfoy had made. To distract him Harry suggested they try to prepare Malfoy’s cocoa – well, also so he’d have something hot to drink when he comes back, because Malfoy always suffered from the cold.
“Oh, Uncle Draco doesn’t like hot chocolate,” Teddy shook his head.
“But,” Harry didn’t know what to do with this information, which stood in stark contrast with everything he knew in this life. “He drinks it all the time with me.”
“No, no, he says it’s too sweet. He never drinks it.”
Harry felt utterly lost. The knowledge he’d collected of Malfoy was the foundation with which he was trying to build this – it was what he stupidly thought he could use to make a home. Hell, he’s been practicing – getting ready for – and all this time, Malfoy was lying?
When Malfoy returned Harry pretty much threw himself at him, boxing Malfoy at the door with all his shopping bags.
“You don’t like hot chocolate,” he said accusingly, and Malfoy’s eyes went big.
“What?”
“You don’t. And you told Ted you had a pet stag and that you’ve embossed him or something like that. But you don’t like hot chocolate.”
“I – “ Harry’s never seen Malfoy so flushed in his life, and was furious with how adorable that was. “All right. I don’t.”
“But you make it almost every night,” Harry contested. He felt a little woozy.
“Yes.” When Harry gave an odd grunt, he closed his eyes. “You like it.”
“So?”
“So…” Malfoy’s shrug was so painfully sad. “I thought you’d… come here if you…”
Harry didn’t wait for the sentence to finally come to a stop, it was taking forever. “So you just lied?”
“No!” two grey eyes opened, sort of panicked. “I just – I’ve been trying, all right? all this time, to learn to… to get to know you. All these things about you, and then I saw how much you liked it when I made hot cocoa for Teddy and – I just. Want you to. Have. Things that you like.”
Harry couldn’t feel his tongue. His head was spinning. He didn’t know what to do about this, didn’t know what to think, didn’t know – he just didn’t know. Sadness was familiar, and losing, and being lied to, but – but this –
“Kiss him, Uncle Harry!” a little voice carried from behind him, and startled he caught a glimpse of blue hair. Hell. A quarter of his age, and Teddy was at least twice as clever. Harry leaned forward and did the only thing that made sense, and the kiss was solid enough to build on. Malfoy’s lips were the sweetest thing he’s ever tasted. Hot chocolate, no matter how good, could never compare.
Wow, I really ran away with this one... Today was day 6 of my Seven Sins of Drarry one-shot collection, and was all about - Teddy almost had it: envy! Hope you’re ready to be good, because there’s only one sin left!
Day 1: wrath   | Day 2: lust  | Day 3: sloth  | Day 4: greed  | Day 5: gluttony | Day 7: pride

“Tickets for two,” I said enthusiastically to the man standing behind the glass of the old, worn ticket booth. I heard an exaggerated sigh coming from the right of me. Looking over at Sirius, I raised my brows and jutted out my bottom lip, attempting to make him feel somewhat guilty. I squeezed his large hand and further intertwined our fingers. “You’ll live, Siri. It’s only a couple of hours.”
I’d been dying to see this new independent film that had been released a few weeks ago. I had been putting off watching it for some time now because I wanted to watch it with Sirius. I could tell he would’ve preferred being left behind. The entire ten blocks we walked from the cinema he drug his feet like a child who was being forced into a dentists’ office. I was surprised he didn’t throw himself on the concrete; kicking and screaming. Although he didn’t throw a complete tantrum, he did try making up a thousand excuses as to why he absolutely couldn’t bear to see one second of this ‘horrendous-looking film’.
It started from the second we stepped out of the front door and into the chilly breeze of a typical, dreary London day.
“Look how gloomy it is. It’s bound to rain—we should stay in tonight.”
“It’s gloomy every day, Sirius. And besides, I brought an umbrella.”
“But… why walk allllll the way to the cinema in the cold when we could snuggle up in a perfectly warm bed?” I giggled at his suggestion.
“Yeah, I’m sure all you want to do is snuggle up in bed.” I knew that for a fact, Sirius wanted much more than to lie in bed when he’d already try to rid me of my clothing minutes before leaving the house.
He seemed more sex-driven the past few days than I’d seen him before. Everywhere we went, he was ready to go; whether he spontaneously suggested the idea while lounging around at home, or in complete public. Refusing a cluster of his many advances always guaranteed nothing less than spectacular sex later on. It’s like all of his built-up sexual tension was released all at once; It was fantastic.
As soon as we bought our tickets and concessions, we walked into the dimly lit theatre. Scanning the rows of chairs from left to right, I noticed that not a single chair in the entire room was occupied. I supposed nobody was up for a film on a greyer-than-usual Sunday afternoon.
Sirius walked to the first row that was closest to the entrance, leading me with my index finger wound around his. We sat towards the middle of the row.
I would’ve preferred to sit closer to the front, if even just a few rows, but I decided to cut my pouting, child-like boyfriend a bit of slack. Sirius slouched down in his seat and crossed his arms over his chest as the lights dimmed to complete darkness. Immediately following, lights of the previews that covered the far wall flooded the room. It was almost blinding.
Looking over at the silhouette of Sirius’s profile, the glow of the projection outlined the miserable look he had plastered on his face. I almost felt bad for dragging him here, but on the other hand, I think he was being a drama queen about the entire situation.
Reaching over the popcorn that I had resting in my lap, I brought the armrest that was separating us to a vertical position so that I could scoot closer to him. I rested my head on his shoulder and whispered into his ear, his flyaway curls brushing against my cheeks.
“I really appreciate you being here, you know.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, lightly kissed my temple, and rested his cheek on the top of my head. So he wasn’t completely resenting being here after all.
Sirius and I always did things for each other that we didn’t particularly want to do. We wanted each other to be happy, and it made our relationship stronger as a whole. I was awoken in the middle of the night to him leaving to go prank students with the other marauders and he went to nearly abandoned cinemas to watch films that he had no-to-negative feelings towards. It balanced out evenly.
Halfway through the movie (and also the bag of popcorn), Sirius’s arm that was resting across my shoulders made its way down to my hip. He leaned in to whisper into my ear.
“It’s not too late to get out of here. We could go out to a nice dinner, go for a romantic stroll through the park,” he drug out the ‘a’ in park, “anything. Anything you want.” Turning my full torso toward him, I cocked my head to the side as to say ‘why, why do you do this to me, Sirius Orion Black’. His expression was originally full of hope—hope that I thought this movie was as terrible as he’d predicted before we’d gotten here.
“Anything, huh?” His eyes filled with glee. But his face dropped immediately as I said:
“Well, I want to stay here.”
He went back to slouching in his chair, his head meeting the back of the headrest. I couldn’t stand seeing him act like this anymore. There was no way I was leaving this cinema until the film came to an end; but perhaps I could offer him a deal.
“If you stay until the end, I’ll do whatever you want afterwards.” A smirk form across his lips and I knew exactly what he had on his mind.
Moments later, I was once again engulfed in the film. The main characters had defied their near-impossible chances of being together, and the romantic/sexual portion came to its peak. I felt Sirius’s lips sneak below my earlobe and begin a trail to my collarbone. “I said afterwards, don’t be so eager,” I said placing my hand on his chest in an attempt to stay focused on what was happening between the characters.
“C’mon, even these poor bastards on screen are enjoying themselves. It’s like they’re mocking me.”
“Well I’m enjoying myself. And what, is ‘fucking in a movie theatre’ something you were planning to cross off of your bucket list before you die?”
“Well it wasn’t before but,—“ I cut him off with a look of disapproval. “There’s not anybody here, we’re sitting in the back. This is perfect!”
Before I could object, Sirius crashed his lips into mine. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t bring myself to pull away. I’d caused him to suffer—or at least act like he was suffering—for a few hours and I suppose I owed this to him. I wouldn’t be missing out on the movie much. It was like I was experiencing what they were doing, but they weren’t in an empty cinema, it was a bit more romantic on their end. However, I didn’t mind much.
Our kiss deepened as his tongue brushed over my bottom lip before it entered my mouth, exploring every corner. His hand lightly cupped my cheek.
I felt Sirius’s fingertips lightly brush over the slightly thin material of my trousers that separated the pads of his fingers from my inner thigh. In a swift manoeuvre, his fingertips slid under the waistband of my trousers and pulled them down, then danced along my skin, igniting sparks as they made their way to my heat. His middle finger slipped past the side of my panties and made firm circles over my clit.
I’d quickly decided not to make this about me. I’d wanted to show Sirius just how much I appreciated him being there, even if I’d practically forced him to.
I palmed his hardening member through his pants and dropped to my knees in front of him. As soon as I unbuttoned and unzipped his skin-tight black jeans, pulling his boxers down slightly, his erection sprung upright, slapping against his stomach. I bit my lip and looked up at him through my lashes lustfully. He shut his eyes, bracing himself for the warmth of my mouth wrapped around him.
I let the tip of my tongue flick over his slit, tasting the saltiness of his pre-cum.
“Fuck, don’t tease,” he groaned, loud enough for only me to hear over the booming cinema surround sound. The flat of my tongue glided over his head as I took the shaft into my hand and began stroking, feeling the veins on his thickness. With each bob of my head, I allowed him to venture deeper and deeper into my throat, hollowing my cheeks until I felt the need to gag. His fingers became entangled in my hair, but he let me go at my own pace. I altered my speed and pressure often which made it difficult for him to stifle his moans.
His hand gripped my hair tightly and he threw his head back onto the head rest, his mouth hanging open. I could taste the familiar flavor of his cum spread across my tongue and slide down my throat.
I stood up from the floor and lifted the armrest on Sirius’s left, allowing us more room. I straddled his lap backwards, his chest pressing against my back. The only thing separating us was the thin lace material of my panties. His right hand travelled up my torso, grazing my rib cage and kneading my breast gently. His left hand snaked around my thigh and pulled my panties to the side. He traced shapes roughly around my centre as I let my head fall back to rest on his shoulder.
He nipped at the sweet spot on my neck and I let out a light moan. As good as his fingers felt against me, I need more. I lifted myself up a bit and reached between us to position his hard cock at my entrance. Slowly lowering all the way back down, I gave myself time to adjust to his large size as he filled me to the brim. He continued massaging my throbbing nerves and I rested my hand over his, getting him to apply more pressure. Arching my back against his chest, I could already feel myself tightening around him and he felt it too. I could feel every muscle throughout his body contract. Every time I had sex with Sirius, it always felt like the first time.
Slightly angling myself to find my g-spot, I let out a muffled whimper and shut my eyes tight when I felt his head brush my
G-spot . I slowly began going up and down on his throbbing dick, grinding against him every time my ass met his crotch. With every motion, I felt my knees weaken a little more each time.
Sirius’s breath became harsh and uneven on my neck and I could tell that he couldn’t hold it much longer. Every individual muscle in my lower body starting in my toes began to tighten in a wave, one after another. The pleasure crept up into the pit of my stomach and I reached my high, becoming a shaking mess in Sirius’s lap. His warm load coated my walls and his fingers dug into my thighs, leaving light scratches.
Once I recovered from my orgasm, I noticed the credits of the film beginning to roll and the lights were returning to their original brightness. I collapsed back into my seat and Sirius struggled to reposition himself back into his jeans. I laughed at the sight of him.
“What?” he questioned continuing to fumble with his jeans.
“Maybe if your pants weren’t so tight Mr Black, you wouldn’t be having such a tough time right now,” I mocked him.
“Whatever, I just hope I don’t have as tough of time trying to get them off when we get home,” he grinned, “you did say afterwards, didn’t you?”

"Betrayed" *Chapter 21*
Chapter 20
Chapter 22
Woof, guys. It's been a rough week. I got this ridiculous toothache last Sunday and it still hasn't gone away. I finally went to a dentist on Friday, only for him to tell me I need a root canal. And about a million other things, but that's irrelevant.
I've been managing on Tylenol and Orajael, it mostly only hurts when I eat or drink a lot now.
Anyway, that was a long-winded way to say this chapter is also a bit "Short". It's taken me four days just to write it, and I have more plot for it, but I found a good stopping point and I had to give you something.
I hope it's not too huge a disappointment for waiting a week!
Disclaimer: I do not like Lucia Barba, I never have. She was a horrible mother to Rafael on SVU in my opinion, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. So, I have written her equally as evil as I saw her on SVU episodes. Don't like it? My universe, my Lucia. Sorry!

You couldn’t believe it. That nurse had pulled for you at the last possible second, and you couldn’t be more grateful. But now what? You have to get to Room 228. That’s what the doctor had told Rafael’s mother. So, assuming you were currently on the ground floor, you’d need an elevator. Or some stairs.
You looked around at all the nurses and doctors running around all lost in their own worlds, but a few did give you questionable looks. You debated whether you should try and find some scrubs to wear in order to blend in, or just take your chances.
After about a half of a second of deliberating you decided this was no time to start attempting some sitcom hijinks, you’d just wing it. Family members could be back here, right? Just stay calm, and act like you belong here. It will be fine.
You confidently strolled through the hall where you reached an elevator. You pressed UP and waited for it to arrive. You were doing your hardest to stay calm and nonchalant, but inside your social anxiety was nowhere near stable enough to keep this up for long. Maybe you should have taken the stairs.
After what seemed like an eternity, you finally heard the ding of the elevator and the doors opened. You immediately jumped into it and hit “CLOSE DOOR”, but a hand reached in at the last second to hold it open. You held your breath waiting to see who was getting on with you. Luckily, it was Dr. Wolowitz. Well, you sure hoped it was lucky.
“Ah, hello again,” he gave you a warm smile, allowing you to let out a breath you were holding.
“I don’t believe we were properly introduced downstairs,” He extended his hand. “Dr. Howard Wolowitz,”
“Y/N Reynolds,” you said meekly while shaking his hand.
“Oh well I certainly know who you are, Miss Reynolds,” He winked. “You’re trending on New York’s Twitter feed right now, actually,”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake…” You put your hands over your face in embarrassment.
“I assume you’re heading up to see Mr. Barba?” He tried to change the subject.
“...Yes…” You looked at the floor nervously, terrified he was going to kick you out.
“Well, if I were you, I’d wait for his mother to leave," He chuckled to your relief. "She is…”
“Scary?” You finished his sentence.
“Very,” He laughed. “I think she was lecturing him when I left, even though he’s still sedated!”
“Jesus Christ,” You muttered under your breath, scared of what exactly you were about to walk in on.
—---
--Meanwhile--
Rafael’s mother had indeed been lecturing her son while he was unconscious, but it was more for her benefit than his. She always felt better if she was talking; she hated silence, Much like Rafael. Luckily for her he was starting to come out of it before she really let loose on him.
“...Mami?” He groaned, hearing her voice at his sudden consciousness.
“Raffi!” She stopped muttering to herself and threw her arms around him. After a moment of hugging him, she slapped him across the back of his head.
“Ow!” Rafael yelled. “What was that for?”
“Are you stupid?! ¿Eres estúpido?!” She tried smacking his head once more, but he grabbed her hand and pushed it away.
“Ay! Mami!” He exclaimed while dodging her disapproving blows. “What are you talking about?”
“Oh right, like this isn’t the reason I had to take two trains and a bus to get here in midday traffic,” She held up her phone to his face; it showed a headline of yours and Rafael’s “intimate” moment.
“Dios mio– Mami WHY do you have that?! You don’t even have a smartphone!” He pushed the phone away in disgust while his face turned a deep shade of red. He had never dreamed his mother would see that photo, and now here she was shoving it in his face.
“My friends have been sending me “links” and this photo since your little escapade, Raffi!” She exclaimed.
“Like you can open ‘links on that dinosaur phone,” he rolled his eyes.
“Well, my dinosaur can still load pictures! LIKE THIS ONE!” she shoved the phone in his face angrily.
You approached room 228 and peered in the window, listening to the conversation now:
“...And then I get a phone call today from the hospital saying my son has just been admitted with a heart attack. And then when I get here, some ‘doctor’ who could easily be my GRANDSON tells me you had it from ‘extreme physical activity’!”
“So, I was running, and–” Rafael immediately tried spinning a tale for her.
“Oh no no no,” She wagged a finger. “Don’t even try that mierda with me, Raffi. We both know what kind of ‘workout’ you were getting,”
“Mami…por amor a los dioses…” He muttered angrily. “Can we not do this right now?”
“Oh, what? Discuss your little ramera?” Mrs. Barba narrowed her eyes.
“DON’T call her that,” Rafael growled. “She’s not a tramp, she’s the woman I’m going to marry,”
“QUE?!” She screeched. “Now what in the holy hell did she do to you to get you to propose to her?!”
“She loved me,” He replied simply, making you smile behind the door.
“And…?” She crossed her arms. “You meet this girl after two seconds and wanna get married? What’s this really about?”
“You know what it’s about, mama,” Rafael said seriously.
“Que?” she asked with genuine confusion.
“Yelena,” Rafael stated flatly.
“Yelana?” his mother laughed. “Wha– Alex’s Yelena?”
“She was MY Yelena first and you know it, mami!” Rafael yelled as his fists clenched.
Well, you couldn’t say that didn’t hurt. But you knew what he meant.
Yelena and Alex had destroyed a part of him all those years ago, and you brought it back. Now he wanted to hold you as tight as he could to himself, and you couldn’t blame him for it. Hell, you couldn’t be mad at it. You wanted to be held as tight to him as he wanted to.
“Oh Raffi,” She shook her head. “You were children, ustedes eran niños! You really still hold a grudge against him for that?”
“Are you serious?” Rafael’s eyes widened in shock. “You think that–”
“And anyway mijo,” She talked over him. “After that happened it drove you to pursue law school, si? So really, you should be thanking them,”
“Thanking them?!” He scoffed. “Really mami, you think–”
“Is that why you didn’t help him with his legal troubles?” She cut him off while thinking out loud. “Because he ‘stole your toys’?”
“I didn’t help him because he was sleeping with minors, mami!” Rafael suddenly bellowed angrily.
“Ay, Raffi!” She looked around as if people could hear the two of them. “Don’t be so judgmental, mijo. He could’ve done a lot of good for el barrio if he had become mayor. Just because he had a zipper problem–”
That was it, you weren’t going to stand here and let another woman steamroll Rafael’s self-worth another second.
----------
“Alright that’s enough,” You swung open the door and stormed into the room.
“...Yeah, that seems about right,” Rafael’s grimace turned to a triumphant smile as you burst in.
“You!” Mrs. Barba gasped. “You little–”
“Uh uh, you’re done talking,” You wagged an angry finger.
“What took you so long?” Rafael sighed in relief, knowing his lady of shining armor was here to protect him.
“Well, I was waiting for an opening,” You pushed past her and sat down on Rafael’s bed while he instinctively draped his arm around your shoulder.
“But you,” You scowled at her, taking Rafael’s hand. “You are a horrible mother, and I’m not gonna sit here and listen to you badger your son while he’s HURT,”
“How dare you–”
“No how dare YOU,” You cut her off, standing up from Rafael’s bed. “You really stood there and told your son to be more like a PEDOPHILE? Are you serious?”
“He is NOT–” She protested.
“Oh bullshit,” You weren’t letting her get a word in. “Look I don’t know what it is with you and that guy, but he’s a bad person in general AND he betrayed your son. How is that not grounds enough for you to hate him?”
“You know you might wanna review all the facts before you start on me, chiquita,” She narrowed her eyes.
“Raffi just finished telling me Yelena is the reason he’s marrying you, so he clearly is just doing to, what Raffi?” She looked past you at Rafael.
“Marrying a younger woman, more attractive than Yelena? Who’s got the zipper problem now?”
“You stupid–” You started to rip her a new one, but Rafael grabbed your hand from the edge of his bed and pulled you back.
“Get out,” He growled at his mother.
“What?” she half laughed at the notion.
“Get…out,” He repeated in a slow, guttural tone.
“Rafael, you are in the hospital after just having a heart attack. I’m not leaving you with some girl–” She started to lecture him.
“That ‘girl’ loves me more than you have my entire life, mother!” He finally lost it.
“Excuse me?” Mrs. Barba let out an offended exhale at his statement.
“I’ve never been good enough for you,” he continued. “Alex was the son you never had, I was just this burden who made your husband leave,”
“Rafael!” Mrs. Barba gasped, looking from you to him. She was clearly more horrified that he was airing out their dirty laundry in front of you rather than actual remorse. “How can you say that?”
“Because you let him beat the shit out of me!” Rafael screamed angrily.
Both you and Mrs. Barba froze at the accusation. You looked from Rafael to his mother and back again, waiting for either of them to make a move. You could see Rafael’s lip trembling, but he wasn’t backing down.
“Rafael, you know that’s not true–” Mrs. Barba tried to gaslight him, but he wasn’t a kid anymore.
“Bullshit!” He yelled. “All those nights when you asked me to sleep with you in your bed when he would go out until the bars closed. You told me it was to keep me safe, but really it was so he’d get to me before YOU!”
Both you and Mrs. Barba gasped out loud at the revelation.
“Mijo you’re hopped up on all of these pain meds, you have no idea what you’re saying,” Rafael’s mother was still playing the ‘loving mother’ act, but neither of you were buying it.
“Mrs. Barba, I suggest you get out of here, right now,” You warned.
“Excuse me?” Mrs. Barba scoffed while she stepped towards you, threatening to get in your face. “If you think that I’m going to leave my son–”
“Oh please, please give me a reason,” You stood up from the bed.
“To what?” She asked with a confused look.
“To beat the shit out of you,” You warned. “I’ll claim it was self-defense,”
“Cómo te atreves…” Mrs. Barba huffed under her breath. “Raffi wouldn’t let you–”
“Why not mami?” Rafael chimed in. “Aren’t you the one who taught me to lie for your significant other?”
“I…you…” Mrs. Barba blinked back tears at her son’s words. Unable to think of anything to say back, she quickly scurried out the door.
------------
You sat back down on Rafael's bed as soon as she exited. It was a few moments for the both of you to process what had just occurred, but before you knew it Rafael was burying his face into your shoulder, collapsing into sobs. You sat there and just held him, looking up at the sky while mentally yelling at yourself.
“You will not fall apart right now. You will not. This isn’t your trauma, this is his. Woman up. Even if this is completely freaking you out because you’ve literally never seen him break down like this. You will keep calm,”
You took a deep breath and sucked back tears, stroking his head lovingly while whispering comforting words to him. “Shh, it’s okay baby. It’s alright,”
After a few more minutes of him quietly sobbing, he finally managed to calm himself down enough to look at you.
“Thank you,” He whispered.
“What?” Your eyebrows scrunched at the gratitude.
“Thank you for kicking her out,” He gestured towards the door.
“Oh,” you shrugged. “No problem,”
“No, really,” He sniffled, composing himself. “I’ve wanted…needed, to say that for a long time,”
“Yeah?” You asked him sadly as a pang of guilt hit your heart.
You knew how close Hispanic families were, especially when it came to mothers and sons. While Rafael never seemed like a “mama’s boy” to you, it was pretty obvious they were extremely close.
“Yeah,” He nodded sadly.
“...I’m so sorry baby,” the guilt ate at you the sadder he looked.
“No, no seriously Y/N I needed to–” He shook his head while he tried to dissuade your guilt.
“No, not about that,” You waved your hands. “I almost killed you!”
“Killed me?” He let out a small laugh.
“Yes!” You exclaimed seriously, annoyed he wasn’t taking this more seriously.
“Miss Reynolds,” He sat up straighter.
“Rafael Barba is not a man who can be taken down by a vagina,” he teased, letting you know he remembered everything you had said back at the apartment.
“Not even one as sensational as yours,” He added with a wink.
“Raff!” You blushed as you lightly hit him in embarrassment. “But seriously– the doctor told me why you had a heart attack–”
“Angina attack,” he clarified. “Not even a real heart attack, Y/N,”
“Whatever,” you rolled your eyes.
“I guess next time I’ll just have to let you keep control then, won’t I?” He winked at you.
“Next time?” You bit your lip with a small smile.
“Oh, most definitely,” He chuckled while pressing his lips against yours in a small kiss. “And many more times to come, I assure you,”
“Oh well in that case,” You giggled as you kissed him back.
“You know maybe I should just get in better shape. I do like being in the driver’s seat,” He suddenly thought out loud.
“Baby I don’t want you to overexert yourself–” you protested.
“Hey, I’ll have you know I was quite the stud before my little…sabbatical,” He puffed up his chest all macho-like.
“Oh, were you?” You raised an eyebrow at the clear peacocking he was attempting.
“Yes, in fact–” He was ready to start bragging boisterously, but the nervous expression on your face made him think better of it. “...Never mind,”
“It’s fine, Rafa,” You stroked his hair with a sad smile. “It’s not like I thought you were saving yourself for me,”
“There weren’t tons,” He quickly changed his tune.
“Liar,” You gave him a look. “I’m sure there were plenty,”
“Well let’s put it this way, mi amor–” He pulled you closer back into his chest. “None of them ever gave me a heart attack,”
“Yeah, because you weren’t old,” You gave him a tongued smile.
“Oh, you little–” He started to tickle you just as Dr. Wolowitz walked in.
“Ah, feeling much better I see, Mr. Barba,” He smiled at the two of you.
“Yes, I am,” He agreed while not letting go of you.
“Glad to hear it,” the doctor smiled at the two of you.
“Are you–” You looked around uneasily. “...Am I okay to be in here?”
“What?” Rafael looked at you curiously.
“I believe what she means is the fact that she had to sneak in here, Mr. Barba,” The doctor explained to Rafael.
“Sneak in here?” Rafael’s eyebrows furrowed. “Why would she have to–”
“It’s family only back here in the ICU,” the doctor answered his question without him finishing it.
“Oh, right,” Rafael mumbled, looking down at his bed. He was playing with your hands in his when he looked back up and over to you. "You know, we could remedy that problem very easily,”
“What?” Your mouth dropped open.
“Oh, it’s really not a problem Mr. Barba,” Dr. Wolowitz assured him.
“But what if I had died?” Rafael looked at him seriously. “All of my estate is sanctioned to go to my mother if I were to pass, and right now that is entirely unacceptable,”
“Oh my god,” you muttered. “Rafael if you’re trying to scare me or piss me off into marrying you right now–”
“I’m just pointing out facts, dear,” He smiled smugly.
“Well, we’re not doing that, especially not here,” You shook your head.
“Why especially not–”
“Because that nurse out there basically told me that if I told her we got married, she’d let me back here,” You gestured towards where you had come from.
“So…?” He made a face at you.
“So she could call the tabloids, Rafael!” You exclaimed.
“She could call them anyway!” he reminded you.
“I’m sorry, are you actually upset just because I don’t want to call in a priest to marry us right now?” You half laughed with a snarky bite.
“I just said, all of my things would go to my mother, and she doesn’t deserve ANYTHING–” He started to argue again.
“Alright see that’s the thing,” You stopped him. “Baby you’re pissed at your mom right now, and rightfully so. But, you’re also hopped up on pain meds, and emotional, and–”
“Now you’re on her side?” He sounded more hurt than upset.
“I’m not on any sides! There are no sides!” You exclaimed.
“Where have I heard that before?” Rafael suddenly threw your words back in your face with a sly smile.
“Not to be combative here Mr. Barba,” the doctor chimed in. “But I do believe your—” He looked between the two of you trying to discern a term for your relationship.
“Girlfriend,” you finished for him.
“Fiancee,” Rafael clarified.
“Anyway, you are probably still very…for lack of a better term, ‘out of it’. Sedatives from surgeries aren’t an easy drug to come off of,” Dr. Wolowitz went on.
“Right, so just get some sleep baby and we’ll talk about this later, yeah?” You stroked his hair while giving him a sympathetic look.
“We need to wheel you into a non ICU room anyway, now that you’re awake Mr. Barba,” The doctor added before addressing you. “Recovery rooms are on the fourth floor,”
“I’ll see you up there,” you gave him a kiss on the cheek before starting to walk out.
“Y/N,” Rafael called, making you pause and turn.
“Yes?” You looked back at him with one hand on the door handle.
“You’ll come back, right?” He asked in a soft voice.
He sounded so small, so vulnerable. Not the rough and tough man you’d always see strutting around the courtroom. He was clearly very much still ‘out of it; and the debacle with his mother wasn’t helping his abandonment issues already bubbling at the surface of his still foggy mind.
You walked back over and slowly kissed him long and deep while running your fingers through his hair. After a few moments of your assuring kisses, you pulled back with the biggest smile on your face:
“Try and stop me,”

Fox Mulder, Closet Romantic Ch.3: Jesus Is A Pisces
Previous Chapter - AO3 - MSR, rated E
Mulder has forgotten Scully’s birthday every year but one. Actually, make that two now, since this year he’s determined to make the day special for her somehow. He’d asked her casually what her plans were, and she admitted that outside of a lunch with her mother and some church friends on Sunday the 22nd, she didn’t really have any intention to celebrate.
“It’s been a rough couple months,” she’d explained softly, and that’s all he needed to hear.  She’d gained and then buried a daughter within a few days’ time over Christmas, for fuck’s sake. He didn’t know how she managed to stay sane after that, and if he thought about it for too long the waves of powerlessness and guilt that rolled over him were debilitating.
So instead he focused on what he could do.
“You wanna do something after work on Monday? I promise to be as un-festive as possible,” he offered.
She looked uncertain, licked her lip. “Just us?” she asked.
“Just you and me,” Mulder assured her, the words giving him a tiny, shameful thrill.
She was quiet for a moment. “Sure,” she said finally.
Come Monday, February 23rd, it’s business as usual in the basement office. They finalize their reports from the previous week’s case, wrangle their receipts, argue over who broke the stapler (It was him, she insists; while he claims she jammed the staples in and made it impossible to use properly).
At three minutes to five o’clock, she clears her throat softly as she gathers her things, and he can feel her preparing to speak.
“Yeah, Scully?” he murmurs.
“We still on for tonight?” she asks, sounding almost cautious, and his heart fractures.
“I’ll pick you up at seven,” he confirms, leafing through a file. “Be sure to bundle up.” He looks up at her and gives her a reassuring grin.
She looks happy and… relieved? Huh.
“Well, I’ll see you then,” she says, shrugging on her coat as she leaves.
Mulder smiles at the door as it clicks shut behind her. He’s unusually giddy about what he has planned for the evening.
Over the weekend he had gone to the grocery store since his refrigerator was barren, then camped out in his building’s laundry room all day Sunday washing every blanket he owned. He even stopped at the little bakery around the corner from his apartment, purchasing a single chocolate cupcake and a loaf of rye bread.
After work he packs his car with a cooler, a duffel bag, a large thermos of coffee, and a pile of blankets.
He’s surprised to see that she’s waiting for him on the steps of her apartment, wearing a heavy jacket and thick turtleneck sweater.
“I got too hot wearing all this inside,” she explains, climbing into the passenger seat. She seems almost excited, and he strangely wants to cry. God, he’s so fucking glad he had the balls to invite her out again.
“Where are we going, Mulder?” Scully asks.
“It’s a surprise,” he replies.
Seven minutes and three wrong turns later, he reaches into the glove compartment and pulls out the map, handing it to her. “Rock Creek Park, please, Navigator,” he says.
“Aha! I thought the route we were taking seemed… circuitous,” Scully says with a smirk, unfolding the map.
“Just tell me where to go; I don’t need a running commentary,” he gripes, secretly relishing her needling.
In about twenty minutes, they arrive at the park’s nature center. Mulder pulls into the lot next to the field across the road and cuts the engine.
“We’re here?” Scully asks, looking around. “It’s deserted. Mulder, please don’t tell me we’re ghost hunting,”
“Ghosts? No,” he says, climbing out of the car and going around to the trunk. “Help me with some stuff?”
Scully comes around to the back of the car, where Mulder hands her the cooler and thermos. He slings the duffel bag over his shoulder and gathers up the pile of blankets. “Close the trunk, will you, Scully?” he says, walking towards the field. “My arms are full.”
They trudge out to the middle of the field, cold winter air biting their cheeks. Mulder stops abruptly and drops the blankets onto the ground in a heap.
“We’re here,” he announces, setting down the duffel bag. He picks up a heavy wool blanket and spreads it out on the grass.
Scully sits down on the blanket, cooler and thermos beside her. “What exactly are we doing out here, Mulder?” she asks.
“Well first, we eat,” he replies, reaching for the cooler. He opens it and pulls out two waxed-paper parcels, handing one to her. “Pastrami on rye,” he announces. “I went a little crazy with the mustard on one of them, we can trade if you want.”
“You made these?” she asks, unwrapping the sandwich and taking a bite. “Oh my god,” she groans. “Mulder, you’ve been holding out on me. This is delicious.”
The satisfaction in her voice makes him flush. “It’s pretty hard to mess up pastrami.”
“True,” she agrees, “but I was starting to doubt you could even make food. Your refrigerator is usually pretty sparse.”
Mulder shrugs, opening the thermos of coffee and pouring her a cup. “Cooking for one doesn’t hold much appeal,” he explains.
“Mm,” she agrees around a mouthful of sandwich, taking the proffered cup. “So Mulder, tell me; is there a reason we’re having a picnic in the dark?” She eyes the duffel bag beside him suspiciously.
“I’m glad you asked,” he replies, unzipping the bag and pulling out a tripod. “You know anything about constellations, Scully?”
It’s a rhetorical question, of course. He already knows.
“A thing or two,” she replies casually, clearly attempting to hide the smile sneaking across her mouth as she eats.
“Well that’s good, seeing as I lugged this telescope and a star map all the way out here,” he says, pulling the telescope case out of the bag.
Scully is enraptured, and Mulder thinks this might be the best thing he’s ever done for anyone.
“I haven’t done this in years,” she says, peering through the eyepiece as she adjusts the telescope’s position. “Not since…”
She doesn’t finish her sentence, but she doesn’t have to. He remembers her telling him once, on a long car ride to some anonymous, unremarkable town, about stargazing with her father when she was a child. Captain Ahab and his Starbuck, navigating the night skies by way of celestial markers.
The temperature’s dropping, and Mulder drapes the ratty tribal weave blanket from his couch around her shoulders as she searches the heavens.
“You want a turn?” she asks, drawing back from the telescope for a moment.
He shakes his head, plops down on the blanket and gazes at her instead.
They could be astronauts together, sailors of the stars. Dropping anchor in pools of the Milky Way, swimming through constellations and running their fingers through glittering strands of nebulae.
“I’m good,” he replies softly.
“Mulder?” Scully says from under a pile of blankets.
They’re lying on their backs now, side by side, eyes on the sky. Waiting for a meteor, or a passing satellite, or for God to wave hello.
“Yeah, Scully?”
“Do you give any credence to astrology, or is that too close to religion for you?”
“I appreciate its historical and cultural significance,” he replies. “Beyond that, I can’t say I have much of an opinion on it. Aren’t you a Pisces?” he asks, as though he doesn’t already know that she is, and that he’s a Libra, and that the shitty magazine he picked up in the dentist’s office says they’d be a tumultuous but passionate match. Not that he gives horoscopes any weight.
Passionate, though…
“I am. And I’m inclined to agree with you, though astrology’s link with early Christianity is fascinating. For example, did you know that Jesus is linked to Pisces? His birth coincides with the dawning of the astrological Age of Pisces, which spans from 1 AD to the year 2150. There are many scriptural references to fishermen, and early Christians used the fish symbol as a sign of their faith.”
“Huh,” he says, tucking a blanket more tightly around his shoulders.
“I don’t believe that the stars dictate my temperament, by the way,” Scully continues. “But there’s something beautiful about having a constellation in the sky that corresponds with your own birth. Missy knew more about this stuff,” she say wistfully. “She’d read me my horoscope every morning before school while we brushed our hair or whatever, in the bathroom where Mom couldn’t hear. It was fun,” she says with a sigh.
“Do you think she’s out there, in the stars?” Mulder asks and immediately regrets it. He didn’t mean the question to sound flippant.
Scully takes it in stride. “Is it crazy if I say maybe? There’s… there’s things I’ve seen and heard, Mulder, that I can’t explain. Who am I to say how God operates? Maybe He’s laid the stars out like a map for us to read. That’s probably wishful thinking, but life would be a hell of a lot simpler if everything was dictated by heavenly bodies.”
“Better that than by governing bodies,” Mulder agrees.
Their eyes drift along the razor-sharp curves of the crescent moon.
“My mom wants to set me up with one of her church friends’ sons,” Scully says without preamble.
“Huh,” Mulder replies, tracing Orion with his eyes. “Let me guess; he’s a dentist.”
“Emergency physician, actually,” she replies. “He’s nice.”
Mulder suddenly feels the weight of gravity pressing him down to earth. He can feel the rotation of the planet under his back, spinning him at a thousand miles an hour. “You’ve met him?” he asks.
“Yesterday, at lunch,” Scully replies. “He’s a widower, with a six-year-old daughter. I think… I think my mom thinks we could help each other.”
Mulder’s stomach churns, a facsimile of seasickness rolling through his body. “What do you think?” he asks, voice oddly hoarse. “Do you… agree with her?”
Scully pulls the blanket higher under her chin and sighs. “I don’t know, Mulder. I’m thirty-four today, and my career runs my life. I’m not sure how many chances at a family will come my way in the future. It’s not ideal, but maybe I’m past the point of getting to choose.” She pauses. “I’m sorry, I’m being fatalistic.”
Despite the near-freezing temperature, he’s got a cold sweat forming on his back. “You can always choose, Scully. As far as I see it. It’s-it’s important to me that you know that.”
She rolls onto her side, snaking a hand out of the blanket to prop herself up on her elbow beside him. “Mulder, I know you blame yourself for the things that have happened to me. But they’re not your fault.” He opens his mouth and she interrupts him before he can speak. “Don’t argue with me. It’s my birthday.”
He’s grateful for a change of subject. “That reminds me,” he says, sitting up and reaching over to open the cooler.
He pulls out a small pink bakery box and opens it to remove a single chocolate cupcake with a candle stuck in the middle. He digs a lighter out of his coat pocket and gives it a flick, igniting the candle.
“Happy birthday, Scully,” he says sheepishly, holding out the cupcake.
The single flame shimmers in her eyes as she takes the dessert. “Mulder,” she says softly, in a tone that makes his heart turn to liquid. “I don’t… I don’t know what to say.”
“Just make a wish and blow the candle out before the wind does it for you,” he replies. There’s only a bit of a breeze but he’s not taking any chances. She deserves a wish.
Her eyes fall closed, and she sighs contentedly, no doubt formulating her request. Suddenly she opens her eyes and locks her gaze with his over the flickering candle, and Mulder feels a thousand words rumbling in him like an approaching avalanche.
Before he can say anything she purses her lips and extinguishes the lone flame with a breath.
She pulls the candle out of the cupcake and pops the end into her mouth, licking off chocolate frosting, and Mulder thinks he might die right there on a blanket in Rock Creek Park. He’s been so good, keeping his feelings to himself, but in this moment his only thoughts are that he loves her and wants her; no, needs her. He needs to touch her, taste the icing on her lips, map the constellations of freckles hiding beneath her sweater. Shake the winter chill out of his bones, letting the flames of her red hair lick across his skin and light his whole body on fire.
She’s saying something to him, biting into the cupcake, chocolate crumbs falling onto the blanket.
“Hm?” he asks, returning to terra firma.
“I asked if you wanted a bite,” she reiterates.
Yes, his body responds. Please please please-
“It’s yours,” he says as a declination.
“Therefore it’s mine to share,” she declares. She holds it out to him, and his stomach flutters as he leans in and takes a bite. He thinks of his parents’ faded wedding photos, of them feeding each other cake in black and white.
Don’t date the doctor guy, he pleads silently as he chews. Stay with me. Show me galaxies.
She falls asleep on the car ride home with one of his blankets tucked around her, the car’s heater cranked all the way up. When he parks in front of her building she stirs, likely awoken by the sudden cessation of warm air on her feet.
“Scully,” Mulder says softly, “We’re home.”
“Mmm,” she responds. “What time is it?”
“Almost eleven,” he answers, glancing at his watch. “Can you walk or should I carry you up?” The question feels faintly suggestive, and he’s only being so bold because she’s drowsy and likely not registering the subtext.
“I can walk,” she says, sitting up and removing the blanket. Her hair is a fuzzy red halo in the glow of the streetlights.
“I’ll go with you,” he says, unbuckling his seatbelt. “Make sure you don’t pass out on your way up.”
“Thanks,” she yawns. “I don’t know why car rides make me so drowsy,” she says. “It’s like I’m five years old again.”
“Or it’s hypothermia,” Mulder suggests jokingly. “It got pretty damn cold out there.”
“Winter night picnics aren’t the most practical, it’s true,” she says. “But the blankets and coffee were a good idea.”
When they reach Scully’s apartment door she turns to face him. “Thank you for this,” she says, voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t realize how much I needed it.”
He smiles softly at her. “Happy birthday,” he replies.
He’s mentally debating giving her a hug when she reaches out and pulls him in gently, arms looped around his waist. He wraps his arms around her and drops a light kiss to the crown of her head.
It’s over way too soon.
“Goodnight,” she says. “See you tomorrow.”
If he says anything else to her before she slips into the apartment and closes the door, he doesn’t remember it. His feet are firmly on the ground, carrying him out of her apartment building and back to his car, but his head is far above the atmosphere, adrift in space.
He’s so in love he feels as though he’s running out of air.

“Wait, wait just one minute” Amanda paused frowning at you. You were both in the break room having lunch.
“You went on a date with Barba last night and you took him to our Mexican place on Sunday? You’re cheating on me and you’re out of line Detective”
“Yes and Yes. Come on Amanda, don’t be a jealous” she laughed at you “And it’s still our Mexican place. He also asked me on a date on Saturday night”
“Have you told him about everything?”
“Yeah I have. He was pretty caring when I told him”
“How about you’re Aunty?”
“Yep. I found out stuff about him as well, his past”
“Well” she paused “I ‘am happy for you. I would give anything to see my best friend happy.” She smiled at you “We need to go shopping for this date. We need to make you look more like a women” you both started laughing.
Rafael had sent you a text early Saturday morning with the address of where he wanted to meet you that night. Amanda was there when the text came in, you were both going shopping.
“Oh wow, look at this.” Amanda lent over your shoulder and seen the picture’s you had on the screen.
“How romantic, a New York roof top bar. Barba has taste”
Amanda ended up staying with you all day and was going to drive you to the bar that night, which was only 2 blocks from your place, but she insisted on her driving you.
“Barba is going to flip when he sees you” she said looking you up and down.
You had a black cold shoulder overlay jumpsuit. The overlay over your bust was seer, the legs of the jumpsuit were the perfect fit between tight and lose enough, your hair was wavy curls and your make up was just enough with very low black heels.
“How did I get here” were so nervous. “It was so much easier when…”
“Don’t do that, get out of your head. You of all people deserve to be happy let’s go”
Amanda dropped you off and you got out of the lift to the bar level. As the doors opened, “Senorita” By Shawn Mendas and Camila Cabello was blasting over the speakers, really the entrance couldn’t have been planned better with a song like that playing. As you scanned the roof, you seen Rafael sitting over near the balcony on a high two topped table. He seen you, and a big smile came to his face as you walked towards him.
“You plan this song to play as I walk in Barba?” you both laughed as he lent over and kissed you on the cheek.
“I don’t plan on running away from you Y/N, But I’ll call you Senorita anytime you want.” he gave you a wink and you bust out laughing.
“Very smooth Counselor, very smooth” you laughed at him again.
You guys ordered drinks and just ordered dinner when you heard your name, you looked up and Rafael turned around to see who it was,
“Blake, what are you doing here?” you jumped off your stool and run into the man’s arms, who lifted you up off the ground in a huge embrace. Rafael didn’t know what to think. Here was this extremely tall dark handsome younger man lifting you off your feet, and you were here with him.
“I almost didn’t recognise you. You actually looked nice for a change”
“No seas grosero primo (don’t be rude cousin). Smart ass” you back handed him on the arm, Rafael was relieved when he heard you call him cousin.  “I ‘am on a date” your cousin’s eyes opened wide with a big smile on his face. “Ven (come), I’ll introduce you” your cousin wrapped his arm around your shoulders, yours around his middle and you led him to the table.
“Blake, this is Rafael Barba, Rafael this is my cousin Blake Y/L/N”
“One of the many, Nice to meet you Rafael” he held his hand out to him, Rafael done the same and they shook hands.
“Like wise” Rafael smiled back, you guys looked a like, same features, he was just really tall, over 6 foot he guessed.
“Blake and I are number 6 and 7, born a week apart, las gemelas (the twins), I’ am older though” you smiled at Rafael
“You wouldn’t think so” your cousin squeezed your shoulder with a smile “Are you still coming next week, por favor dime si (Please tell me yes)” your cousin pulled back from you
“Yeah of course, wouldn’t miss it, is anyone else coming?”
“No, pendejos (assholes). Rafael, you should come with her”
“What I ‘am agreeing too first” he laughed looking at you.
“Blake is a web designer, he has a launch party for his latest project next Saturday, and it’s a big one”
“Por supuesto (of course) I would love to” Rafael smiled at you
“Oh, you speak Spanish Rafael?” Blake asked.
“He is Cuban and the Assistant District Attorney” you informed him
“Bonito (nice). Tia will be pleased with you Y/N, what a catch”
“Relax Blake, don’t plan the wedding yet” you all started laughing.
Blake left not long later after some small talk. You sat back up on the stool and looked at Rafael with a smile.
“So tell me about them”
“About who Rafael?”
“Tus doce primos (Your 12 cousins)”
“You really want to hear about them?”
“Of course they are a big part of your life”
“Sit back and relax Counselor” you both laughed “I’ll just go from oldest to youngest. Oldest is Bard, he is married to Mandy and a Dentist, Craig is married to Brooke and in the Air Force, Lachlan is married to Sally-Anne and an Accountant, Ryan is married to Grace and is also an Accountant. Those two have a business together in Jersey. Brodie is in the Air Force as well, then it’s me, then Blake who is a web designer, Caesar is an ER doctor, Logan is in IT, Nate is anaesthetic nurse, Grayson is a Vet, Emanuel is a pilot and Baby Rodney is in the Navy. So Blake, Logan, Nate, Grayson, Caesar and I all live in Manhattan, we all catch as much as we can, the rest are all over the place. We all keep in touch but usually only all get together at Christmas”
“Wow, that’s a lot to take in” you laughed at him
“Yeah it is a lot to take in, but it will be a lot more when you finally meet them all”
“You want me to meet them?”
“Well, yeah one day I guess, if it gets to that point” you looked at Rafael who had a smile from ear to ear.
The rest of the night was filled with laughter, a lot of drinking and smart ass comments. Rafael wanted to walk you home, even more so when he found out you only lived two blocks away. He grabbed your arm and linked it in his as you walked down the street towards your apartment building.
“I can understand if you don’t want to come next Saturday, it’s a lot to ask.”
“What, no it’s not. Come on Y/N, you have worked with me enough to know if I didn’t want to go, I would have said no.”
“Yeah that’s true, unless I fight with you” he laughed out loud.
There was a comfortable silence as you guys made your way onto your block.
“This is me” you nodded towards your building. “I had a great time again Rafael, thank you”
“I had a great time as well” he smiled at you, taking a step closer.
“Rafael, at risk of being too forward, mi gustas (I like you), a lot”
You looked into his eye, you couldn’t read them. You weren’t sure how he was going to react. He looked into your eyes and lent forward, placing a hand on your cheek and kissed you lightly on the lips. He pulled back, looking deep into your eyes, running his thumb over your cheek.
“Yo demasiado Hermosa (me too beautiful)”
“I know I may be a lot to handle, but I wi-” he lent in and kissed you again. You moved your head to side and opened your mouth slightly to allow his tongue in, he moved his hands on your waist and pulled you into him, and you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him even closer. The kiss was amazing, you had forgot how amazing someone’s touch was. But really not just anyone’s, Rafael’s. He pulled back and looked into your eyes again.
“I don’t want you to do that again. I don’t want you to ever change, I like you just the way you are, and when the time is right, I will take you home to my Mum” you smiled at him and lowered your head to hide your blushing cheeks and your slight tears filled eyes. “And I think I just worked out how to shut you up in the good way” Rafael lent in again.
