Hello Ross!
Came across your post reblogged by @msbarrows. Sorry if you've been asked this before, but what are some good steps to take now before the new regime comes into effect in January?/RFK Jr brain worm antivaxxer BS.
Thank you in advance.
I know just about every post on the subject says this, but- get your vaccines up to date. Buy yourself a nice TDaP from the CVS for Christmas. The Department of Health and Human Services (of which RFK Jr will have control) oversees the CDC and the FDA. While it would be unlikely he would go for an all-out ban on vaccines, he could make vaccines a hell of a lot more optional and refuse to approve new ones. Considering another goal of the administration is to repeal the ACA, that would mean childhood vaccinations would no longer be covered by private insurance (I was a child prior to the ACA and my mom paid $750 to get (fully insured) me vaccinated (about $1,638 in today's dollars). Meaning people will likely not be able to afford vaccines even if they wanted them. And a combination of expense + lack of mandate would mean a drastic reduction in the number of people who get vaccinated. While vaccines are less effective without community (herd) immunity, they are still great at keeping you from dying. So get them while they're available and covered.
Get your records. Download or request as many of your own medical records (and those of your children!) as you can. You can get most of your records through MyChart or other online portals. If you received medical care before electronic charting, you'll have to directly contact your hospital or clinic's records department to see if they can send you copies. Save them in hard copies in a binder or at least on a flash drive or disc you have the ability to read from a computer. This makes your medical care portable if you have to see a new doctor without a lot of time to plan.
If you're on more than one medication, have a "medication reconciliation" appointment with your doctor. Learn what meds you are on and know what each of them do. Call your pharmacy and learn how much they cost without insurance. Ask your doctor if there are any cheaper alternatives that treat the same things. In the case of an ACA repeal and loss of drug coverage, you're going to want to know so you can make an informed decision about which drugs you buy.
Get your mental health straightened out as much as possible. RFK Jr. has said things against antidepressants and other psych medications. While again, he's probably not going to ban them (Think of the lost productivity! Think of the pharmaceutical companies losing revenue!) he may make it hella difficult for new antidepressant meds to be approved.
Get on long-term birth control of you can get pregnant and don't want to be. The copper IUD is the longest lasting form of birth control and can prevent pregnancy for more than 10 years, but hormonal IUDs can last 7 or more. Each has their own side effects and benefits. You can always get it removed later if you change your mind, but getting access to birth control might become difficult.
Have any semi-elective procedures done ASAP. At least get them scheduled. If the ACA is repealed you may not qualify for health insurance and you really don't want to have to pay for a surgery out of pocket. Plus, if the FDA becomes less reliable, you're going to want any tools or implants used in that surgery to still be safe.
Get new glasses. If you have vision insurance, get a new pair of glasses (not contacts) now with your most up-to-date prescription.
Get any dental work you've been putting off done if you currently have dental insurance. Get a cleaning and any preventative care done you need too.

what do we do now?
go get all your vaccines updated asap. they are likely about to be banned.
download all your favorite fanfics from ao3, and any 'adult' content anywhere, as these are likely also about to be banned.
delete period-tracking apps if you have them, get an iud and/or stock up on any other preg-prevent drugs you can, even if you don't CURRENTLY need them. men, get vasectomies. they are reversible and whether you want kids or not, pregnancies can now result in your partner's death far more easily than they should.
if you rely on commissions from online communities, make sure you have many different ways of being reached. diversify.
see if you can get prescription-strength toothpaste prescribed and filled by your dentist. flouride is likely getting removed from water and dental health can directly impact your cardiovascular health as well.
it is now more important than ever to save your money and invest if you can, as social security and other such benefits you may come to rely on in old age are likely going to get canceled. pay off debts early to avoid interest, buy refurbished outdated tech instead of new (it is way cheaper and works just as good if not better than new), don't buy a car that gets less than 45 mpg (priuses do not need to be charged and are lovely), buy used (they work just as well as new, they just don't have useless prestige), buy frozen meals from the grocery store instead of fast food (just as fast to prepare and much cheaper), etc
with public education being abolished, if you have or want kids, i recommend finding and stocking up on educational books and games. you can likely find a lot of them at discount stores like goodwill. even old or slightly outdated texts are better than nothing at all.
get a vpn (i use proton cuz it's free) and switch from google to duckduckgo so you can find life-saving information and help without being tracked by people who want you dead.

They know.
They already know this.
It's a feature of disability benefits, to make them as difficult to apply for, then appeal, then appeal at tribunal, to get.
People who are already struggling have to fill in an enormous form detailing all the ways your life sucks, all the things you can't do, how everything impacts you in minute detail.
It's all postal as well, by the way. There's no online form. You can type and print the answers, but it still has to go by snail mail.
And then you wait for over a year for some dental hygienist/dermatologist/gp receptionist/physical therapist fuck to tell you 'well, I googled your condition because I don't know anything about it (but I can still look at your case because I'm a 'medical professional') and decided, based on the first page that came up, what your capabilities should be according to that half a website I couldn't be arsed to read (like your application form) so I'm refusing you because you're a dirty liar because your lived experience doesn't match my 5 minute speed read of the wiki page of your condition.
And then you have to go back to them to appeal, which is basically the process, then wait another ???? months without this income until they toss a coin as to if they send you to tribunal or not, because who wants to bother reading a form again?
If you're lucky, they very generously give you barely enough money to cover the extra meds you need that the GP won't give you on prescription because itll cost them money so you have to buy them online.
If you have a family member or friend who is a carer, they more than generously get, hmm, 10% of what it would cost for the government to provide you with care instead, but that's OK, because your elderly mum/overworked spouse/friend with their own life can look after you no problem!
If you're not lucky, ????? months to go to tribunal where someone actually reads your application for the first time and overturns the DWP's decision, and you can get backdated payments.
Yay!
And if you still haven't starved, frozen to death or killed yourself during the most dehumanising process of your life since the last time you saw a doctor, you might just about be able to clear all the debt you've incurred while you were waiting for the DWP to decide if you're enough of a useless cripple to be granted the pittance they give you which doesnt even match minimum wage.
Boris Johnson said that Covid was nature's way of dealing with the elderly, clearing the way for "the young" (he's 59, so, thanks for your sacrifice, Boris)
If half the disabled people claiming benefits in the UK died next week, the Tories would consider it a success.

"You're doing great! You're a real trooper!"
TMI medical/dental/etc. stuff and things that were traumatic for me adjacent to that beyond cut, jsyk.
Okay. So what you need to know for background sake is that I have not had ANY non-urgent/emergency medical anything done since...considerably before covid started, for Reasons that look like this, as I think of them:
Phone anxiety from hell - I can override it for work or in a real emergency but it's one of the worst mental spoon drains. Probably related to the days when phone calls not from family or my very closest friends were 90% bill collectors and 9% other stuff I really didn't want to deal with.
Fear of committing to an appointment, not being able to keep it for whatever reason, and then getting dropped by the practice - this happened to me once with the only endodontist who would take my insurance without, like, a six-month wait.
Multiple awful experiences taking kids to appointments and them not getting appropriate care, including but not limited to the time my son's former primary care doc wanted to prescribe estrogen-containing birth control pills to deal with menstrual dysphoria, the time we got kicked out of the ER with my daughter, and the time the other ER threatened to call CPS on us because we were supposedly letting our preteen kids drink hard liquor and watch porn (NO????????) instead of dealing with the reason we were there.
Multiple awful experiences my husband has had, including the time he had a hypertensive crisis but as soon as they heard he was on psych meds they assumed he was also using illegal drugs and possibly committing DV (no???), the time the "Wellness Management Clinic" told him to crash diet AND divorce me if I refused to crash diet with him, and the time the primary care doc's record office confused the Vicodin he got with his wisdom teeth extraction with an ongoing daily prescription.
The horrible unethical therapist I had 15ish years ago, yikes.
I'm a fat woman with adult-diagnosed ADHD, and my last primary care doc was all "you don't really need Strattera because your ADHD isn't that bad, you got to this appointment on time just fine!" (CLEARLY this woman had never heard of Appointment Mode. Sigh.)
Thanks to the above, I'm afraid of being seen as "doctor-shopping" or drug-seeking, as well as just getting yelled at for being fat and not having been to the doctor in way too long.
So yeah. I get my shots, I go to urgent care when something obvious needs urgent care (possible strep, the stress fractured foot earlier this year), but I haven't had regular anything done in way too long.
I figured the first step in dealing with this was to get back in therapy. So I found a practice that would book new patients online, and there I selected a therapist who is queer and a parent, because (as I said to them) "there's a whole lot I just won't have to explain!" And I wrote on my intake form that one of the big things I wanted to work on was my medical anxiety, because it is actively causing Problems.
Next, while bringing my son to get dental work done and noticing that he seemed very comfortable with that practice, I decided "since I'm in the waiting room anyway, let's get me in and get this party started, I know there is a mess in my mouth." And I've had the botched-root-canal tooth pulled, which was apparently a challenged, and half of my mouth has had the periodontal deep clean with the other half to be done in two weeks, plus a couple of fillings and prep and temp crowns for a bridge to fill in where a tooth was pulled before.
And the whole time I keep hearing that I'm doing great! And that's helping so so much tbh when I expect to just be yelled at and treated with scorn and that's...not what is happening. It makes me feel like maybe I can go to the actual doctor and have it not be awful, too?
I'm trying.

Oh! The shit icing on the shit cake today!
Found out I am not allowed to opt out of the benefits at work unless I have coverage from my partner's job or something. Jon doesn't have anything. So I have to pay $60 a month for benefits I will not use because all it is is chiropractic and massage and then 80% off prescription meds, of which I have none at the moment, and if I did have something it certainly wouldn't exceed $60 a month. I don't even get any dental coverage. Oh and of course 80% off an eye exam every 2 years and then $200 every 2 years toward new glasses. Which I will also not use because I buy all my glasses online because I can get 2 pairs for $200 instead of half a pair for that much.
Ahahahahahahaha I'm gonna fucking quit my job this week probably

said was gonna check info post of dental care did image ID of.
Quotes from post: "also: ask your dentist about durophat fluoride toothpaste!! I got some on prescription and it is a special formula that helps protect teeth" "Clinpro is another great rx toothpaste that has a soft minty vanilla flavor." Clinpro 5000 anti-cavity toothpaste page, drugs.com UK article "Post My Meds" of Durophat Toothpaste
Quote from Drugs.com, Clinpro page: "Disclaimer: This drug has not been found by FDA to be safe and effective, and this labeling has not been approved by FDA."
These product is use for patient high risk of caries. 5000ppm sodium fluoride is highest strength prescription for ClinPro and Durophat.
However, it risky use for people have issue swallow without mean to or not follow specific instruction -- whether forgot or not able. If swallow 5mg of any 5000ppm fluoride strength toothpaste, need go Emergency Poison Control.
Instruction say only use pea-size amount, which can be 5mg total -- just don't swallow it all somehow. pea-size is less than many people is used to use for normal toothpaste. It advised not use any other product with fluoride for risk of overdose also when use high fluoride toothpaste (e.g. "such as mouthwashes, chewing gum and dental gel").
Clinpro and Durophat easy available online shopping despite be prescription toothpaste, so need be aware context and risk before consider.
Personally, it not for me and I not trust self with it. Have issue swallow on accident things, and when manic have gone overboard with dental care. I also have issue with it not be FDA approve.

4 Recommended Medicines for Toothaches and Pain
Toothaches can be disruptive, affecting your daily life and well-being. When a toothache strikes, getting quick relief is often the priority. Fortunately, certain medicines are effective in managing tooth pain and reducing inflammation. Naproxen, Diclofenac, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin 500mg are common tablets for treating toothaches and headaches. Let’s know more about them. Naproxen Naproxen belongs to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It provides longer-lasting pain relief compared to aspirin and Ibuprofen. Because it works over a more extended period, naproxen is ideal for toothaches. Adults take 220mg of naproxen every 8-12 hours, but it’s essential not to exceed the recommended daily dose to avoid potential side effects. Aspirin The medicine is one of the oldest and most trusted pain relievers. It blocks enzymes that produce pain-causing chemicals in the body. For toothaches, it can provide effective relief from pain and swelling. Adults can take 325-500mg every 4-5 hours as needed, but it’s essential to avoid exceeding the daily limit. Never place the tablet on the gums or tooth, as it can cause burns to the gum tissue. Ibuprofen Ibuprofen is another typical NSAID for different types of pain. Dentists recommend Ibuprofen 200 mg to adults every 4-6 hours. The antibiotic reduces inflammation and effectively blocks pain signals, making it ideal for dental discomfort. It can be found in the brands Advil and Motrin, which are available online. If you have a severe toothache, a healthcare provider prescribes higher doses. The tablet is known for managing pain without causing drowsiness, making it a practical option for daytime relief. Diclofenac Diclofenac is a potent NSAID often recommended for moderate to severe pain. It is available in various forms, including tablets and gels. Due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties, diclofenac treats dental pain. While diclofenac is sometimes over-the-counter in low doses, higher strengths require a prescription. Adults should follow the specific dosage instructions to ensure safe and effective relief. These four medicines are reliable options for toothache relief. They are available at online shops. While these antibiotics provide temporary relief, it’s best to see a dentist to address the root cause of the toothache. However, it is crucial to follow your pharmacist’s instructions before using them. About Global Health Store: Global Health Store is a reputable online pharmacy that offers access to pharmaceutical products that may be unavailable in your region. Its online store has approved Aspirin, Cefodox 200mg, Ibuprofen tablets 200mg, and other antibiotics. Understand Your Options Before Medicare Open Enrollment
Tumblr media
Navigating the complexities of Medicare can be daunting, especially as the Open Enrollment Period approaches. This critical time allows beneficiaries to review their options and make necessary changes to their plans. Understanding your options can help you make informed decisions that best suit your healthcare needs and financial situation.
What is Medicare Open Enrollment?
Medicare Open Enrollment runs annually from October 15 to December 7. During this period, you can enroll in Medicare for the first time or make changes to your existing coverage. This includes switching between Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Original Medicare (Parts A and B), enrolling in or changing prescription drug plans (Part D), and adjusting supplemental insurance (Medigap) if you have one.
Types of Medicare Coverage
Original Medicare (Parts A and B):
Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing facilities, hospice care, and some home health services. Most people do not pay a premium for Part A if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.
Part B covers outpatient care, preventive services, and some home health services. This part has a monthly premium, which can vary based on your income.
Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C):
These are private insurance plans that combine coverage from both Parts A and B, and often include additional benefits like vision, dental, and wellness programs. Medicare Advantage plans typically have a network of doctors and hospitals, which means you may need to use services within the network for lower costs.
Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D):
Part D plans help cover the cost of prescription medications. These plans are offered by private insurance companies and vary in terms of cost, coverage, and pharmacies. It’s essential to choose a plan that includes your medications and meets your needs.
Medigap Plans:
Medigap policies are supplemental insurance plans that help cover costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Each Medigap plan is standardized and offers different levels of coverage. You can purchase a Medigap policy only if you have Original Medicare.
Important Considerations Before Enrollment
Assess Your Healthcare Needs: Review your current health status, any anticipated medical needs, and how often you visit doctors or specialists. This will help you decide if Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or a combination of both is more suitable.
Evaluate Costs: Compare premiums, deductibles, copayments, and out-of-pocket maximums for different plans. Medicare Advantage plans often have lower premiums but can have higher out-of-pocket costs, especially if you require specialty care.
Check Provider Networks: If you are considering a Medicare Advantage plan, ensure that your preferred doctors and hospitals are in the plan's network. Out-of-network services may be more expensive or not covered at all.
Review Prescription Drug Coverage: Make a list of your medications and check if the plan covers them. Look at the formulary (the list of covered drugs) to understand your potential costs.
Consider Your Lifestyle: If you travel frequently or split your time between locations, consider how your Medicare plan will function in different areas. Original Medicare provides nationwide coverage, while Medicare Advantage plans may have regional restrictions.
Making Changes During Open Enrollment
If you decide to make changes, here’s a quick checklist to follow during Open Enrollment:
Research Plans: Use the Medicare Plan Finder on the official Medicare website to compare your options.
Ask Questions: Reach out to Medicare representatives or your state’s health insurance program for assistance.
Make Your Choice: Once you’ve evaluated your options, complete the enrollment process. You can do this online, over the phone, or by contacting your insurance company directly.
Conclusion
Understanding your Medicare options before the Open Enrollment Period is crucial to ensure you have the right coverage for your healthcare needs. Take the time to research and evaluate your choices carefully. With the right information, you can navigate this important period with confidence, securing a plan that provides the care and support you need. Remember, the decisions you make during this time can impact your healthcare for the coming year, so don’t rush the process—take the time to make an informed choice.

Doctor's Note for Work: What It Is and When You Need One
Tumblr media
A "doctor note for work" is a written statement from a doctor that explains why you need to miss work due to health reasons. It shows your employer that you saw a doctor and that your absence was necessary for medical reasons. The note can also include recommendations for any adjustments or limits on your work activities to help you recover. This helps ensure that you get the necessary rest or modifications at work while maintaining your health.
Tumblr media
What is a doctor's note?
A doctor's note, also known as a medical certificate or sick note, is a written statement from a physician or another medically qualified health care provider that attests to the result of a medical examination of a patient. It can confirm that you have been seen by a medical professional and provide an explanation of why you were or will be absent from work or school due to health reasons. Doctor's notes can also outline any accommodations or restrictions for the patient, such as needing to avoid certain physical activities or requiring a specific type of ergonomic furniture at work. This document serves as a formal communication between healthcare providers and employers or educational institutions, indicating a legitimate medical reason for absence or special considerations.
This type of documentation is often required by employers to justify an employee's absence from work and to confirm that the absence was due to legitimate medical reasons. A Online doctor's note for work typically includes:
The date of the medical appointment: Indicates when the patient was seen by the healthcare provider.
Confirmation of medical consultation: Affirms that the patient was examined and treated.
Recommendations for rest or modifications at work: May include suggested limitations on work activities or a recommended duration for absence from work to ensure proper recovery.
Privacy of medical details: Usually, the note will not disclose specific medical details of the diagnosis unless the patient consents or if it is necessary for the formulation of work accommodations.
This note serves as a critical tool for communication between healthcare providers and employers, helping to manage the employee's return to work in a manner that considers their health needs.
Tumblr media
When Do You Need a Doctor's Note for Work?
Here are several scenarios when a doctor's note might be necessary:
Extended Absences: If you're sick for more than a couple of days, many employers require a note to justify the extended absence.
Chronic Health Issues: Conditions that frequently affect your ability to work may also require ongoing documentation.
Workplace Injuries: If you're injured on the job, a doctor's note can outline the necessary accommodations or time off needed for recovery.
Pregnancy and Other Medical Conditions: Any condition that requires special considerations at work might need a doctor's note.
How to Get a Doctors Note Online
Sometimes, the process of scheduling an appointment, traveling to the doctor's office, and then requesting a physical note can seem like too much effort, especially when you're feeling ill. For many people, this amount of effort may not seem justified just to get a doctors note online, or it might even be unfeasible if your doctor doesn’t have any open appointments.

Over-the-Counter vs. Professional Teeth Whitening: Which is Better?
A radiant smile can significantly enhance one’s appearance and self-confidence, leading many to seek ways to achieve whiter teeth. Two primary categories stand out among the myriad options available: over-the-counter (OTC) teeth whitening products and professional whitening services offered by dental practitioners. Each method has its odvantages and drawbacks, making it essential for individuals to weigh their options carefully before deciding which route to take.
Tumblr media
Understanding Teeth Discoloration
Before delving into the comparison between OTC and professional whitening, it is essential to understand the causes of teeth discolouration. Teeth can become stained or discoloured for various reasons, including dietary choices, lifestyle habits, and even natural ageing processes. Common culprits include beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, and certain medications. Additionally, the natural enamel on teeth can wear down over time, exposing the darker dentin beneath and contributing to an overall yellowish appearance.
Recognising the cause of discolouration is crucial, as it can influence the choice of whitening method. For instance, surface stains may respond well to OTC products, while deeper stains may require the expertise of a professional. Understanding one’s specific needs is the first step in determining the best approach to teeth whitening.
Over-the-Counter Teeth Whitening Products
Over-the-counter teeth whitening products include a range of options, such as whitening toothpaste, strips, gels, and mouthwashes. These products are widely available at pharmacies, supermarkets, and online and are often marketed for convenience and affordability. For many individuals, the allure of brightening their smile at home without needing a dental appointment is appealing.
One of the primary advantages of OTC whitening products is their accessibility. They can be purchased without a prescription, and many consumers appreciate the flexibility of whitening their teeth at their own pace. Additionally, the cost of these products is usually significantly lower than professional treatments, making them an attractive option for those on a budget.
However, while OTC products can yield results, they often take longer to show noticeable effects compared to professional treatments. The concentration of whitening agents in OTC products is typically lower, which can limit their effectiveness, especially for individuals with stubborn stains. Moreover, improper use of these products can lead to uneven results or potential damage to tooth enamel and gums if not used according to instructions.
Professional Teeth Whitening Services
Professional teeth whitening, on the other hand, is conducted by qualified dental practitioners and typically employs more vital bleaching agents than those found in OTC products. This method can be performed in a dental office or through custom at-home kits provided by the dentist. The primary advantage of professional whitening lies in its effectiveness; many patients notice significant improvements in the brightness of their smile after just one session.
During an in-office whitening procedure, the dentist assesses the patient’s oral health, discusses their whitening goals, and provides tailored treatment options. Using professional-grade products, combined with the dentist’s expertise, ensures a safe and effective whitening process. Furthermore, the results from professional treatments are often longer-lasting, as the more potent agents can penetrate deeper stains that OTC products may not be able to reach.
Another benefit of professional teeth whitening is the care and guidance provided throughout the process. Dentists can monitor the patient’s progress, making adjustments as necessary to achieve the desired outcome while minimising the risk of side effects, such as tooth sensitivity or gum irritation. This personalised approach can lead to a more satisfying and successful whitening experience.
Weighing the Pros and Cons
When considering whether to opt for over-the-counter or professional teeth whitening, evaluating each method's pros and cons is essential. OTC products are convenient and cost-effective, making them an appealing choice for many. However, they may deliver a different effectiveness or speed than professional treatments. OTC options may suffice for individuals with mild discolouration or those seeking a subtle enhancement.
Conversely, professional teeth whitening provides more dramatic results and particularly benefits those with significant stains or discolouration. Investing in professional treatment can be worthwhile for individuals seeking a brighter, more confident smile. However, it is also essential to consider the cost and time commitment associated with dental visits.
Additionally, personal preferences play a significant role in the decision-making process. Some individuals may prefer the comfort and convenience of whitening at home, while others may value the expertise and immediate results that come with professional care. When making a choice, it is essential to reflect on individual circumstances, including budget, time availability, and desired outcomes.
Long-Term Results and Maintenance
Maintaining a bright smile requires ongoing care and attention regardless of the chosen method. After undergoing a whitening treatment, whether OTC or professional, it is essential to adopt good oral hygiene practices to prolong results. Regular brushing and flossing and routine dental check-ups are foundational to maintaining oral health and the brightness of one’s smile.
Moreover, individuals should be mindful of their dietary choices following a whitening treatment. Consuming staining beverages, smoking, or neglecting oral care can quickly diminish the results achieved through whitening. Implementing lifestyle changes, such as drinking through a straw or rinsing the mouth with water after consuming staining foods and beverages, can help preserve that newly acquired brightness.
In teeth whitening, both over-the-counter and professional options have their place. The best choice ultimately depends on individual needs, preferences, and circumstances. By understanding the differences between these methods, individuals can make informed decisions that align with their goals for a brighter, healthier smile. Embracing the journey of teeth whitening can lead to newfound confidence, opening doors to social interactions and personal achievements that may have felt out of reach before.

Dearest American girls, gays and theys,
The holidays are swiftly approaching. I understand there are changes coming in the new year. Get holiday ready with these tips!
Get your passport! The holidays can mean travel to exotic destinations, so make sure you have your passport, its current and you know where it is. In fact, secure all your important documents like your birth certificate in a safe place. Free tip! 😄
Be careful with your cash. Holidays are expensive. Consider simple homemade gifts like caramel popcorn, crocheted washcloths, or sugar scrub. Events in the new year may be expensive too, so it's a good idea to have cash. You can leave it with your secure documents until you're ready to buy presents, plane tickets, or whatever you need for what's to come. Most banks have a limit on daily withdrawal, so keep that in mind. Buying a visa gift card is a reasonable alternative if you've reached your cash limit, but cash is still king. Never tell anyone, ANYONE, how much you have or where it's stashed. It's basic safety and keeps little elves from cleaning you out.
New year means renewal, like your prescription! If you have benefits you haven't taken advantage of, do so now! Most benefits are annual or biannual. Before the holidays hit, take care of your dental, eyes, surgeries, allergies, birth control, massage, physio, whatever you need for next year or the next few years, get it now. If you can, and if you have benefits, sooner is better. Take care of your health going into the sick season.
You may consider getting your car serviced if you think travel by land is in your future. You don't want to break down on the way to Cousin's house on the other coast!
Block the naysayers online. Some people want to humbug your holiday. The best defence is to block, block, block. Your attention is currency. Free up your focus for your nearest and dearest. The key to surviving the holidays is your community.
If you have Grinch family members, coworkers or acquaintances, put them on an information diet. Grinches love to spoil holiday surprises, so don't tell them anything important or really at all. Aim for bland, non commital small talk. Don't engage with Grinch-baiting. Grinches feed off your emotions. Be bland. Save the holiday spirit for those who protect it.
Communication is key. When your coordinating your presents, parties and holiday meet-ups, if you want to keep your plans a secret from little ears, end-to-end encrypted communication is the way to go. This also means turning off your app notifications, since little eyes can read your notifications over the network, they don't even need your phone to do it. They don't need to know what presents you may have bought online!
Connect with your people and make sure to have some face-to-face meet ups if you can. It's so much easier to talk in person, coordinate parties and make sure little ears don't overhear.
Connect with your extended family and friends in other countries. The holidays are a time of togetherness. Do they celebrate the same holidays you do? Maybe arrange to visit them to celebrate together. Or just visit, ticket prices usually drop in early January.
Most of all, keep the light in your heart burning. The dark season is ahead, and in such darkness even the faintest light shines brightly. Times are tough and holidays can be hard. Take care of yourself. Nourish your body and mind, stay strong and protect your peace. Do what is necessary to survive this holiday season.
I hope these tips help you in the coming months.
Love, a friend
