Hats for Afro-Textured Hair Make Graduation More Inclusive for the Black Population in Brazil

Initiative creates models to be used by Zumbi dos Palmares University and the University of Southern Bahia

Graduation can be a significant moment in a person's life, but it can also become embarrassing and uncomfortable for black people with kinky or curly hair or braids when wearing the capelo. The traditional black hat, common in graduation attire, does not accommodate various types of hair.

Ana Carolina dos Santos, 30, was unable to wear it on the day of her biochemistry degree ceremony in 2015. "It was a very happy day for me, but I didn't feel complete," she says.

Nearly ten years later, after overcoming her frustration, Santos relived that moment, but this time the capelo fit perfectly over her voluminous, unbraided hair. She was part of the #RespeitaMeuCapelo campaign by Vult with the Dendezeiro brand. Four models of the item were designed for different hair types.

"When we understand the symbolic weight of the capelo, that it doesn't work for us, it says that we don't belong in that place," says Igor Hermes, art director of GUT, the agency that developed the project.

My take is either his contract with dior and tommy are more restricted than we know (yeah he wears other brands but is way less than these two also is always more traditional brands, with styles similar to what dior and tommy does or the brand is part of LVMH too). Or Eric isn't doing a good job in research, something Beyoncé did for her tour and would be amazing for Lewis to do because he goes to a lot of countries, is to wear stuff from designers of that country, he says he does that but I'm not seeing it, like Brazil for example, there's an amazing brand called Dendezeiro, their last collection scream Lewis, I was expecting him to wear something from it but he used a heavy cardigan like some others he used already.

He's clearly leaning towards a style and is okay, he's always beautiful but at least should be tailored, that's the main problem, there's a difference between baggy and looking like is borrowed from someone way bigger, and those sizes don't favor him

I think it's clear Tommy said: he needs to wear out brand at least one a week. Which - in all honesty - I wouldn't found weird because they probably pay A LOT to be a sponsor and also gave Lewis many opportunities in the beginning of his fashion journey. In all honesty he makes me look at Tommy again a little with some fits hahah. And Dior is probably just giving him things to keep. I don't even think he needs to return them after wearing etc.

I do know he wears Dutch designers when he comes here. Or sometimes a little Orange touch. I do like it indeed when he does that.

I feel like he's in his baggy era. At least pants wise. Top he's more tight on, but yeah... I hope the skinny jeans comes back soon, because I miss those Lewis days hahahah. With his high tops hahah
