mehofkirkwall replied to your post “ok….can a vampire read torah?”
i don't see why they wouldn't be able to, but like if you mean can they be called up to read it-- the only problem i could imagine is "i hope the service isn't in daylight hours/close enough to sundown that they can't get there in time"
no no no - my concern was the blood thing. people who are menstruating can’t read torah bc blood is impure, right? does that apply to vampires?

Would Bashert work?
I don’t know about the implications or how common use “bashert” is to know.

mehofkirkwall replied to your post “me, when someone brings up angsty headcanons in the discord: i hate...”
well now im just thinking about Jack getting drafted and Crutchie doing his best to either hide the other newsies or like, keep spirits up. Les helps because he's skating by on looking young. Race telling Spot about it and spot just going "well, about that.." and Race insists they're movin to canada
les would’ve been 27 when the draft for ww1 started the only way he’s getting out of it is if he managed to not exist on paper until then

heckofabecca replied to your post “heckofabecca replied to your post “do any of my followers speak...”
i suspect there are online dictionaries you could examine! good luck :)
The problem is I don’t know if the word exists in Yiddish.
To explain, and maybe someone on here will know the answer: In English, we have “sweetheart” and “boy/girlfriend” along with other terms like “significant other” and “partner” and whatnot.
So what I’m looking for is a word for romantic partner that’s gender neutral but not, like, conspicuously so

hermione-walked-out-of-a-yeshiva replied to your post: Would lava be kosher? Besides the death bit?
here, chabad.org/library…
salt is kosher. obsidian knives are kosher. lava is just liquid obsidian.
ergo, don’t eat lava bc pekuakh nefesh, but in its solid form it’s fine.

As someone who's 5'7", we do place a HUGE amount of masculinity on height and e DO often make things targeting only tall men.
Oh as a trans dude it’s incredibly apparent to me that we do that. Like, basically all I wear any more is sweat pants because I can’t find jeans that fit me even in the kids section.

He's 5'7" which is average height but generally yeah
Average height for a man in the US is 5′9. Like yeah using a booster seat is ridiculous but it’s ridiculous because either a)that chair was made for someone so large someone who’s 5′7 can’t sit in it or b)we place so much of our masculinity on height that someone who’s 5′7 feels the need to use a booster seat. It’s fucking tragic.

The closest thing I can think of are geliebte (f.) and geliebter (m), but those are gendered, so maybe hartsenyu or sertsenyu could work? Theyre not used exactly as a noun in all senses, but as a way to address someone (I hope that makes sense lol)
If it’s an address, then it won’t work.
The context is a character is moping and another character asks him what’s wrong and he says “[my partner] and I had a fight”

enthusiasun replied to your post “today, on life as miles: why was the hat that I was planning on...”
i left the house without a kippah today by accident (showered and was in a rush) and i had to go back for one haha
I almost never wear a kippah unless I’m praying or at a formal event. In my experience, hats just stay on better without a zillion bobby pins (or even with...), and I don’t feel like explaining the intricacies of my observance to everybody who asks. So a collection of hats for all seasons is a necessary and wonderful addition to my closet.

In America, they started using their own bills and coins by the early 1700s
The question is what form the bills would be. How big they’d be, and what would be a bill and what would be a coin.
Like, nowadays, we have pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters as coins, and paper money in various multiples of a dollar. In the 1860s they had paper money worth 50 cents. At what point did those go away, and what would’ve been the most common way of breaking up x amount of money into bills.
