Impromptu Ramblings about the NEO:TWEWY Demo

In case y'all weren't aware, I've been a pretty big fan of TWEWY for a couple years now, and with the sequel coming out next month, the excitement I feel for this game is greater than ever :) I played the Demo for the first time yesterday, and following a couple views of some livestreams of others playing it, I felt like sharing my (very ramble-y) thoughts prior to the release of the full game. This post WILL contain spoilers for both TWEWY and NEO:TWEWY, so if you want to avoid those from now on, please block the tags: #twewy spoilers, #ntwewy spoilers, #neo twewy spoilers, #ntwewy, and #neo twewy ^_^ Oh, and if you wanna keep up with any other posts I make about my experience with this game, please refer to the tag "kat plays neo twewy" :)

-First things first: I have not watched the Final Trailer and I don't plan on doing so to avoid spoilers, especially after the pre-release era of KH3 where a lot of the later trailers spoiled a lot of the endgame content. That being said, I've seen some minor screenshots from the final trailer including what many believe to be characters from the original TWEWY, namely Shiki and Joshua. That is all I know about the Final Trailer and I would very much like to remain as blind as possible going into NEO :)

-The very first cutscene was quite ominous in the sense that this game is likely going to be about "changing fate" (a recently common theme in Squeenix games, which I do appreciate), perhaps leading off from the end of A New Day in the OG and trying to stop an Inversion of Shibuya. Also worth noting that A New Day had similar aspects in which the main character experienced "future visions" of tragic events, although in A New Day these events were not able to be changed, while in NEO it seems like one of the main "powers" our protagonist has is specifically to rewrite these events and avoid a "bad ending." Very interesting indeed!

-I really like the revamped comic book style dialogue scenes, it's much more fluid and modern, which is an excellent direction for the series to take!

-I would love to have an actual PokemonGO knockoff of Final Fantasy creatures, please Squeenix that would be incredibleeeeee

-Also the LINE stickers??? Are so cute???

-I would just like to point out that Fret is an absolute treasure throughout this entire demo, he's hilarious and I will protect him with my life

-UHHHH don't like that Fret picked up some Reaper Pins just out of nowhere.....or the fact that they're apparently popular all over Shibuya.............did y'all not learn anything from the OG game or what lmao

-Okay so when I first got the "curry or ramen" scene and heard NPCs talking about the new curry place replacing the old ramen place I became IMMENSELY distressed that Ramen Don was totally cut from the game because....well, Ramen Don is a King okay?? But I'm glad to learn that no, he didn't fall off the face of the earth, he's still in business and he's the one opening the curry restaurant lolol. PHEW, crisis averted!

-.....I don't like the sudden appearance of a Wall Reaper and being able to read NPC thoughts. Wtf happened when they left the ramen place??? Are they playing the Game alive somehow?

-Okay so I have my own theories about this "Swallow" character and what they're up to but considering this is only the Demo and I still Have No Idea What's Happening, I'm just gonna say that I think Swallow intentionally led Rindo and Fret to the Crossing so they could join the Game. I mean, add in the fact that Swallow still communicates with Rindo during the Game and you've got yourself a suspicious character right there lol

-"Hey they're shooting off fireworks!" Fret honey that's not fireworks oof (see also: "*laughs* I'm in danger")

-WOOOOOO way to traumatize Rindo right off the bat like that LMAOO

-The visuals for the intro are VERY GOOD, the song is pretty decent until it gets all "screamo" (which I absolutely cannot stand sorry lol)

-Shoka is every Customer Service employee ever and I respect that

-Susukichi went from being "meh" to "WOW THIS GUY IS FUN" in the span of 10 seconds and I also respect that (he is also built like an Absolute Unit which is hilarious)

-The Wall Reapers (and just Reapers in general) seem.....way nicer and more helpful this time around?? Like in the OG the Wall Reapers were SO RUDE gfhjgjdfkhn and yeah I'm sure we'll get some like that but the juxtaposition of the first Wall Reaper in the OG compared to the first one in NEO is insane.

-The puzzles are quite a bit more entertaining this time around even if it's generally the same "fetch quest" formula lol

-"Rindo's Group" way to go Fret HFKJDGHSDFKJ mans really left the default name in there lmao

-OKAYOKAYOKAY so to those who aren't aware I am a MASSIVE SIMP for Sho Minamimoto, he's my absolute favorite and I think about him daily. HIS INTRODUCTION IS. INCREDIBLE. I LOVE IT SM.

-GOD hearing him actually SPEAK FULL SENTENCES is just SO SURREAL I love this sm

-Also the remix of his theme???? NEO TRANSFORMATION????? IT'S SO GOOD????????? It's like gone from a Boss Theme to a more triumphant sounding theme and I am HERE for it (every version of Transformation is just INCREDIBLE and getting a new one is even better)

-I Love Him, Your Honor

-Also idk how exactly but it's kinda weird seeing Sho in the OG vs NEO, cuz while he's mostly the same Insane Math-Obsessed Catboy, he's.....calmed down quite a bit?? Like OG made a whole point of how poorly he cooperates with others (not to mention just being completely unhinged and trying to kill everyone), whereas here in NEO he's......actually kinda working with others??? HELLO???? Sir what happened to you and Neku during those 3 years I would love to know all about it

-I guarantee you Sho is still probably scheming shite and will likely pull some total insane BS later down the road, and I am very much looking forward to that. Also, is he looking for a certain Pin or something??? Cuz he keeps talking about different Pins and even mentions "this is just another Psych Pin" like he's actively looking for a Pin to do something with. Maybe it also has to do with the "latent powers of Players" thing he mentioned as well??? What is this dude UP TO oml (also is he in contact with Neku at all?? they're both technically fugitives at this point right?? WHAT HAPPENED AFTER A NEW DAY I AM BEGGING YOU)

-I seems like Sho ALSO has an idea of what's going on in this specific game (even if he won't admit it straightforward). Per his quote "The game's 142,857. Factor it out," he's essentially saying, "This game is a neverending cyle, figure out how to get out of it" (or at least that's what I got from his "cyclic number" nonsense lolol)

-I do like how Sho mostly stays out of sight until he's needed for a battle or assisting with a mission, that's kind of on par with his whole "uncooperative" quirk from the OG, plus he might literally have to stay out of sight of other Reapers and Players considering he's likely breaking the rules of the Game (not surprising considering him and Neku broke practically every rule in the book during OG)

-The nicknames for Sho- I can't- They're so FUNNYYYY GFHJSDFKJ

-He goes from being called "Pi-Face" and "Tabooty" in OG to "Mr. Minami" and "M-Teezy" in NEO LMAOO

-(Wowee I just realized I've been mostly talking about Sho oopsies sorry y'all, this is what I meant by thinking about him almost daily he is THAT much of a fav of mine ghfkjsd)

-Okay RIP Fret and Rindo for not getting literally ANY explanation as to how the Game works OOF, that is kinda cringe that whoever gets the Pin earns points, not whoever erases the Noise (which like I understand but also URRRGGHHH I WANNA SEE THE SQUAD SUCCEED)

-"I should be going home now it's getting late" Oh you sweet summer child-

-Also love the mention of parents in this game???? KH you could learn a thing or two from TWEWY (poor Rindo's mom fhgjkdh)

-KUBO IS HILARIOUS I SUPPORT HIM AND HIS GROSS FACE (also thank you Final Trailer thumbnail for spoiling my suspicions about him very cool smh)

-Kaie is a LAD I also support him, go King type those funky texts I believe in you

-FRET PLS STOP SCANNING FHGJKSDHKJFGHFKJ he's like me when I scan in OG during Weeks 2 and 3 and see Taboo Noise coming after me ghfjdshfj

-Also Rindo can you stay off your phone for TWO SECONDS ik you're trying to figure things out but Fret is a jelly boi and I don't want him to be upset with you my guy

-Sho being an actual sorta mentor to the kiddos?? Who are you sir this is so unlike you ghfgskj what happened to the guy who tried shooting children in the face 8 times over LMAO (granted he's probably just using them but it's still nice to see him actually cooperating and sharing knowledge with the kiddos aaaaa)

-EYO EIJI OJI THE TIKTOK INFLUENCER IS BACK LMAO

Last month, Baltimore pop-punkers All Time Low took to the road with Sugarcult for a series of shows on the West Coast. Here's some of what they saw, in words and pictures. Learn more at www.alltimelow.com.

#1------------------------------------------------------------ Ooohooo So last night we celebrated two awesome occasions...well 3 since matt's molars finally grew in...anyways yesterday was Haloween and our first night of our tour with Sugarcult. I must say, it is pretty strange touring with a band who I spent the better years of my middle school life watching on MTV. Regardless of where this band has been, it definetly didn't eff with their personalities. They were all super nice to us and each came up and introduced themselves. The show went pretty well but it wasn't a good judgement of our the whole tour is going to be because Sugarcult didn't even headline, the Eagles Of Death Metal did, and the tickets for $25 on Haloween night :) I'm sorry but I would never go to a show if those were the circumstances...I'd be out expanding my collection of holiday treats. Tonight the 'real' tour begins so we will see how it goes. We are playing Washington State University in Pullman Washington. We haven't done too many college shows, so this should be interesting...anyways before we got on the road a couple days ago we were couped up in Ben Harper's (formely of yellowcard, now in amber pacific) house/studio in long beach, CA working on our new CD :). We demoed some hot licks that were going to send over to our producer matt squire so that he can put in some input. I heard my blogs are going to be posted on the Alternative Press website for this tour, so if that's the case then...helll yeah! Well I just woke up from sleeping in the van so I am gonna walk out into the freezing streets of Pullman, WA crack my back and grab some Qudoba. Much Love, Jack --jbstar #2------------------------------------------------------------ Yoo dooodds, So I'm gonna update you guys on the passed couple shows...on Wednsday we played Washington State University. Those kids are freaking crazy! Everyone seemed to be having a good time and we made some awesome new friends. I cannot stress enough, how cool the Sugarcult guys are. Which is really cool because I have been listening to those guys since 6th grade! Anyways before we played, matt thought it would be a good idea to have a fork and knife fight backstage...yeah it turned pretty ugly and we should have some footage online soon enough. That night we partied at 'The Christmas House'. Lets just say that I'm pretty sure alex made out with a dog...I really miss Hit The Lights :( Anways...we played Seattle after the college show and it was offf the hoooook. Everyone in the room was dancing and it got pretty redic. As soon as we told them the alex/dog story they went nuts. We met up with the Pink Spiders that night. We were nervous about that because we've heard some stuff...but for real those guys are the shit. There all super nice and we have no complaints about them. We have yet to tour with a band who we don't get along with (fingers crossed). We also heard that we may be doing a few shows with Cobra Starship in Dec, if that happends that would be sick. I'll keep you guys updated. Someone made us a bucket of the craziest donuts ive ever seen at the portland show last night!! They were reallly good. Sorry for the lack of pics, I'll make sure my next post has more, its just hard to take good pics on a sidekick :). The crowd was as wild as usual and a bunch of kids were singing along. A lot of the same kids who saw us there on the Amber Pacific tour came back. Its always cool to see so many familiar faces,,,cough cough hint hint nudge...you get the idea folks! The next couple shows should be interesting...reno and vegas. I wont be able to gamble but at least ill be able to look at a lot of lights. We all have family comming out, so that should be exciting. I havent seen my brother and sister in ages and i know their gonna be wasted so that means they will be even more friendly :) Also Meg n Dia join up in vegas which is sick, SO SIKED FOR THAT!!! We met them on warped and their super nice. anyways i think its time, i go to In and Out because after this tour im not going to be able to go back for a while :( im going to eat there everyday twice a day until we leave Arizona. Ive attached pics from our set on the Epitaph stage at this years Bamboozle Left and also some pics of our acoustic set the 2nd day! First of all we showed up in Reno (shity city) only to find that only sugarcults crew was there and the show probably wasnt going on. We were welcomed by a hooker in a pink tanktop and no teeth asking if we had any shirts we could give her...Thankfully we have power windows and middle fingers. Thankfully zack was asleep or he might have took her up on some of her offers...he's getting desperate you know..just kidding! Anyways we decided to hang out with sugarcults crew for a little then start the drive to vegas early since it was 8 house. We got to go over the Hoover Damn which was sweet. It's seriously Vegas Vacation all over again! Anyways, we got to vegas around midnight and it was a fantastic site! My bro and sis were staying at the MGM so thats where i headed. Rian to the Excalibur, Alex and Matt to the Venecian and Zack to the Luxor. We all split up and hung out with our fam for the evening. My brother took me around vegas and boyyy was it interesting. I was approached by numerous drunk people. It was basically like an Ocean City, Maryland for older people. It's just a place for adults to drink, walk around drunk, act like teenagers and maybe gamble a bit here n' there. it was Akward to say the least. Anyways the next day was the show at the House Of Blues at Mandalay Bay...probably one of the nicest venues we have ever played. We introduced ourselves to the Meg n Dia folks and got to know our new tour mates as we shared a dressing room. We soon found they are awesome people and they share a love for getting wild! The show was pretty cool, and the crowd was big. It was weird though because the merch was not in the venue, it was in the cassino haha. Anyways Vegas was an experience we wont forget, and I cant wait till we go there again. I hope the next time we go, were 21...actually nevermind because that would be three years :)stay rad, Jack #5------------------------------------------------------------ Lame! Tonight was our last show on the Sugarcult Tour featuring The Pink Spiders and Meg n Dia :( Damone will be taking our place on this great lineup. I am jelous that they get to join up! Anyways we made some lifetime friends on this tour and it was a great experience for everyone. Every single show was amazing and the fans never let us down. Traveling to bumfuck arizona and hearing a couple hundred kids sing your song is the coolest feeling ever. Sugarcult was very warming towards us and their personalities suprised the shit out of me. they were such cool guys and even when zack was sick they made him soup and gave him Emergen-C. WHO DOES THAT !?!? Thats like something my mom does...so in a way Sugarcult are our parents. They actually reffered to us as their younger brothers on stage. At the last show of the tour in Little Rock, Arkansas us and Meg n Dia ran on stage during "Bouncing Off the Walls" and started bouncing around and took over Tim's Guitar n Mic, Marko's (my twin) guitar and Airens Bass. It was so fun to bro down with a band that ive been listening to since middle school haha. Alex also got to soundcheck with sugarcult at Texas AM College because tim was at the hospital taking care of his sickness (i think he had a nasty cold). It was so crazy to see alex soundcheck with a band who for the past few years have held a special spot on my ipod and in my cd player :) I attached a pic of him sound-checking for fun. At the end of the show we said our goodbyes and gave our hugs. This is'nt the end of these friendships though, only the beggining...now we head home to write a new cd. Catch us on the road in the northeast in december when we head out with Cobra Starship! Stay safe, Jack

Source of the meaning of Claddagh ring and how to wear it

[ Scout ]

Setting: Hallway of 2Fort

Scout hums on the hallway while looking at the ring. His S/O really has a taste when it comes to accessories. Demoman walked pass by him and stops, Scout looks at him with confusion as the other Merc examines the ring he’s wearing.

Scout is wearing the ring with the point of the heart facing the hand and Demo couldn’t help himself.

“Lad, you’re really in love with them” Demo smiles teasingly, wiping some booze from his mouth. Scout tensed and turned to his teammate, a bit of blush appeared on his cheeks.

“Whaddya mean, Demo?” Scout demanded, one hand on his hip. The older Merc realized that Scout’s S/O didn’t explain what the ring means.

Or maybe Jeremy just wore it like any other accessories.

“Well,” Demoman started, interrupted by a hic then continued, “That’s a Claddagh ring, it’s a ring of love, friendship, and loyalty.”

Scout looks at him dumbfoundedly and Demo continues to tease, “Ye engaged to them?”

This resulted in Scout shaking his head impulsively and jumping slightly away from him, unable to hide his blushing face.

“N-no!” Scout almost yelled and Demo chuckled as he walks away.

“Hope ye ask them what that means!” Demoman said sluggishly. Little did they know that S/O has been listening and blushing from a corner as Scout just stands there, looking at the ring.

Medic and Sniper under the cut!

[ Medic ]

Setting: Medic’s Lab

Medic adjusted the ring on his left hand ever so slightly as he continues to turn the dials of his Medigun and heal Demoman’s bullet wounds. As Ludwig finally turns on his Medigun, he went over the operating table to tend to his drunk co-worker, Demo’s eyes seemed to be fixated on his ring.

“Nice ring, mate,” the Scottish man said as he reached for his bottle beside the operating the table, “S/O gave it to ya?”

“Ja,” the doctor replied as he plucked out a bullet from Demo’s torso, “They gave it to me a while ago”

Demo drink from his bottle for a while and blurted out albeit teasingly, “Ye married to them?”

Medic suddenly drops his tweezers and he blushes, “B-beg your pardon?”

Demoman didn’t hide his grin and settled his bottle on where it was before, “C’mere, gimme yer hand”

The German hesitantly put his hand on Demo’s hands, the latter pulled at the ring and put it back, the heart is now pointing away from Medic’s hand.

“There, much better” Demoman letting go of Medic’s hand for him to examine once again.

“What does that suppose to mean?” Medic said, picking up the tweezers from the floor.

Demoman eyed him lazily, “Ask yer love, they can explain to you”

[ Sniper ]

Setting: Kitchen in Coldfront

Sniper examines the Claddagh ring on his right hand while drinking his usual morning tea alone on the dinner table. He’s too shy to ask what this ring means and touches the heart facing inwardly towards his hand.

He flinched slightly when the door behind him opens with a thud, he snorted softly as booze filled his nostrils. Demoman came into his field of vision and sluggishly limping towards the fridge. All Sniper could do is roll his eyes and sip from his tea as he watches his co-worker muttering while reaching for a sandwich. The Scot managed to bump his head on the corner of the fridge and closes it, he turned around with a sandwich on his hand.

“’ Ey, Sniper” Demoman greeted as he took the spot in front Sniper to talk to him, “That’s a nice ring”

Sniper noticed Demoman isn’t as drunk as yesterday and smiles, subconsciously touches the ring on his right hand, “My love gave it to me this morning”

Demoman chomps on the sandwich, pointing the bitten food towards his teammate as he spoke, “Ye know what that ring means?”

Sniper shook his head and Demoman stared at his teammate with disbelief.

“The way you wear indicated yer in a relationship with them!” he exclaimed and he gulped his food down. Sniper blushes faintly up to his ears and tipped his hat forward to hide it from Demo.

“That’s a right thing you did,” Demoman said as he leaned forward, “Now, go ask ‘em what the ring really mean. I’m sure they have a good explanation.”

"Its ok the airship is very unlikely to crash" said Zeke "Only one in many thousand airships crashes and yesterday was a crash, so there is no way the thousand airship can be this airship if it was that airship!"

"Ah... that is very smart thinking from you Prince" Pandoria said and nodded happy and no more scared "It would be very bad if the airship crashes, like into mountains, or into cloud sea, because then we will not go to Japan"

"Hai that would be kanashii" said zeke

"hehe" giglge pandoria

then the airship go to japan and pandoria and zeke come out "wow we are japan!"

so then the zeke and pandoria do the thing in japan you do. They went to the sakura blossomings and went to the onsen and saw the geishas and wore many kimonos togtehr. Then they ate food.

"Mmm oishii sugoi" said pandoria who was eating sushis "Mmm hai very subarashii"

"Haha that looks like an oishii sushi you are taberuing pandy" said zeke "demo, i suki my takoyakis more than the sushis"

"are? even the uni sushis? that's a hen thing to think" mumbled pandoria eating sushi

but soon the pandoria and zeke have spend to long in Japan and if they stay longer they will go to jail for VISA fraud

"Sigh" said pandoria "I do not want to go back to tantal after being in Japan"

"Arigatou Gozaimasu for having us, Japan..." said Zeke

"Arigatou Gozaimasu" said pandoria

when pandoria and zeke were on the airship to back to tantal they look out the window and into the water filled with the sukura petals flying and falling it was very romancing

"This is the last time we spend in Japan..." said Zeke "I want you to know Pandoria that I daisuki you for all i can in my kokoro and when I hear your koe my koe goes thumping and my ai becomes very big... pandoria... i love you like i love japan"

"O-Oh" said Pandoria "That is a lot of daisuki Zeke... I also love you but Japan a little more..."

Okay so time to post some stuff before I forget!

I WENT TO PAX WITH JAYWINGS uh ... when was that, a week ago? Two weeks ago? Something like that. I wanted to post about the stuff I got there, but due to various nonsense had to have said stuff shipped home. But I have it now, so without further ado, my PAX loot!

...Well wait, first, let me show you a couple cool things I got at the MoPOP, which I visited BEFORE I went to PAX:

At the MoPOP they had a Jim Henson exhibit, which included puppets from the Dark Crystal! I took like a bajillion pictures of that exhibit so remind me to post them later. Anyway, at the exhibit’s giftshop they had a lot of really cool t-shirts featuring The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, two of my favorite movies, but I didn’t wind up getting one. ...Buuut Jaywings’s mom got me the t-shirt on the left as a birthday present!! IT’S SO COOOOL

As for the book on the right, when we went to the museum’s gift shop (after spending ages looking through the exhibits), we looked through some of the books there and I was stunned to see THIS particular book. The reason being that I used to have it as a kid (albeit with a different cover) and I read it like 500 times, and then lost it. The comic wasn’t terribly expensive so when I saw it I bought it immediately. Need to read it again soooon!

OKAY NOW ON TO THE ACTUAL PAX LOOT!

“BC,” you ask, “why is literally all of your PAX loot from Double Fine?”

Yes, well, there are two answers to that question, one of which requires a longer explanation. The shorter one, though, is that I love Double Fine’s games (particularly Psychonauts and Grim Fandango, though I’m also very much looking forward to Ooblets), and I wanted to get at least one thing from their booth this year. I wound up getting the Psychonauts cinematic soundtrack, and the Grim Fandango art print (which has a Steam code for the game on it! I might do a giveaway for it or something since I already have the game), the latter of which I bought because there is virtually no merch of that game so I will buy whatever they have.

The second reason is that, as you know, Jaywings and I both cosplayed as characters from Double Fine games (Raz from Psychonauts and Manny from Grim Fandango respectively), and the first thing we did was visit the Double Fine booth. The people there were thrilled to see us cosplaying and took a bunch of pictures, and then one of the guys there... offered us free t-shirts??? I had been planning on getting it anyway, so I got the Grim Fandango styled Double Fine shirt you see there (and then proceeded to play the Ooblets demo because HECK YEAH OOBLETS).

But that’s not the end of it! Double Fine posted the pictures of us to their twitter, and Tim Schafer was disappointed that he’d missed us, so he asked us to come back when he was at the booth, which we did. He took pictures with us, and signed some stuff of ours, like my Grim Fandango Prima guide:

(I need to post some of the stuff from this guide sometime... It has some art I’ve never seen before and some interesting details that I’m not sure are canon or not.)

Anyway, Tim also told us to come to the Double Fine party the next day, which we agreed to do. So... we did! And when we got there, the first thing we saw was a table with all the Double Fine merchandise on it. Jaywings and I talked to the people working the table a while and mentioned that we were the ones cosplaying yesterday, and the people there were super-excited about that. We talked a bit about the different games and how I was looking forward to Ooblets, which led to their asking if we’d gotten Ooblets pins yet. When we said that we hadn’t... they gave us each one for free?!?! And then when I spotted the Psychonauts poster, I asked to buy it... and they gave us each one of THOSE for free too?? (Plus the tote bag to carry it in, but I think those were free anyway.) I was kinda stunned at their generosity but I’m not complaining!

Oh yeah, the poster! We talked to Tim Schafer again, and he signed our posters! Here’s mine:

20 Marchant Stories - Part 5: Eiden Forever

(( And with this, we reach the end of eiden-squid, and we move on to @marchant-girls, a blog dedicated to Eimie, Eika and Paige Marchant. This will be the last post to be done in this blog (with a few exceptions, almost none), and I will be reblogging this for a few weeks.

Eiden has been working out deals to sell all his furniture and his apartment. He was getting rid of everything in sight. Eika would move to a smaller apartment, that she would be able to afford on her own.

Eiden had 4 suitcases full of clothing loaded in Fynn’s car, who was kind enough to lend it for the day. It was big enough for Demo’s suitcases as well. Eimie and Eika all helped Eiden with the selling and the moving and loading of their belongings.

But the night arrived fast, this was Eiden and Demo’s last night in Inkopolis. Their flight was tomorrow afternoon. The night at the apartment was cold, but refreshing. Eiden cuddled with Demo the whole night, giving each other their body warmth. The rooms were all empty, except for the master bedroom, who had a single bed for both squids to sleep on.

Eiden woke up first the next day, the last day in the city. He opened the window to let in the fresh air of Inkopolis after a nice breeze.

“Demo…! It is time..!!” He went back to bed and poked Demo’s cheek. She tall inkling hesitated to wake up. Eiden simply grinned. He always had trouble to wake Demo up, but he didn’t mind at all.

As soon as he got himself dressed for the day, a knock was heard at the door. He quickly went over to open it and receive whoever was waiting outside. It was none other than Eimie and Eika.

“So… this is where it ends, right…?” Eimie sighed. Fynn still hasn’t come back. His birthday had just happened yesterday. “I… kinda feel bad that we weren’t able to give you a goodbye gift, Eiden…” Eimie sighed even louder this time. She was devastated.

Eiden suddenly hugged Eimie. “Sister… I know what you are going through. Do not worry for any gifts…! You being here is enough. Thanks a lot for being with me, big sister!” He said, hugging tighter and tighter. Eimie couldn’t help but to shed a tear.

Eimie closed her eyes, embracing her little brother. “I will miss you…” She said, taking a few seconds before letting go.

“BROTHERRR!!!” Eika glomped Eiden. She was waiting for Eimie to finish her turn. Eika then was good to go with her goodbye. “OH MY COD I WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH PLEASE TEXT US FREQUENTLY AND NEVER EVER EVER FORGET US!!” Eika was crying loud. She was definitely the loudest.

“I.. I will never forget you! Any of you two! Demo and I will be sending tons and tons of pictures, that is for sure!” Eiden said, trying to keep his balance as Eika was clinging to him.

“There is.. one more thing you can help me to do… One last thing…!” Eiden said, letting his sisters inside the apartment. “Hold on a second right here, okay? It will be quick!” Eiden entered the master bedroom.

After a few minutes, Eiden stepped out, with a half-asleep Demo. “Alright..! A squid will come for this bed in a few minutes. This will be my final sale and we will be done. Can you all help me take it outside the room?” Eiden asked. Eimie and Eika all agreed and, with the strenght of the 4 squids, they all managed to swiftly place the bed outside.

“Eidey..? What is this?” Eika noticed a box below the bed. Eiden looked over.

“Ooooh! My really old roller! I used that weapon back when I started turfing..! It is kinda old and I don’t know if it still works…” Eiden opened the box, to reveal a worn, but still functional, Splat Roller. He admired it and even assembled it in a flash.

“Wow.. I am definitely missing this… Eika, do you want to keep it? I have no use for it in Spain.” Eiden placed the roller back inside the box and held it up for Eika.

“O-Oh! Really?! I would love to keep it! I will use it in every single match to remember your legacy! The legacy of Eiden the Squid!” Eika held the box tight to her body. She didn’t used rollers at all. In fact, she has never used one before.

The squid that bought the bed came and went quick. Eiden left the apartment, as Demo, Eimie and Eika all waited outside. The purple engaged squid made sure to lock the door.

“Well… it is time to go…” Eiden sighed. It was difficult to say good bye one last time.

“Eimie, Eika… you have all been amazing. I am so glad that I got to meet you all here! I don’t know how things would’ve worked out for me if it weren’t for you two… I will definitely text you two every day and send you pictures and everything!” Eiden said, getting a bit emotional.

After that, there was silence. None of the squids really wanted to leave.

Eika was the first to speak up. “Say, Eidey… The trip to the airport is half an hour right? And we are 2 hours away from the flight…” She was thinking of a plan. Eimie was quick to catch up.

“Eiden. Demo. I would love.. to turf with you one last time. All 4 of us against the new squids from Inkopolis Square. Its grand opening is tomorrow, but we can hop in early and test the new weapons since we all are veterans to turf war. Whaddaya say, eh?” Eimie proposed one last turf war with the engaged squids.

“I.. I mean.. I don’t want to be late…” Eiden was hesitating a bit. Demo then suddenly jabbed his arm slightly.

“Come on, nerd! One last turf war, for old times sake! Let’s finish our story in Inkopolis with what we all do best! A Turf War!” Demo was tugging Eiden’s sleeve.

Eiden chuckled and smiled. “Alright, let’s do it! One Last Turf War!”

NDRV3: Kodaka Kazutaka and Kanda Sayaka Hold Nothing Back! The Dangan Inside Story

So this is an interview with Kodaka and Kanda Sayaka about V3 that was offered as a bonus for finishing the V3 character poll. Thanks to @bamboo-woods for the heads up about the poll and the interview tokuten! Enjoy!

New Dangan Ronpa V3, released on January 12th for the PS Vita and PS4, is the newest installment in the Dangan Ronpa series, known and loved for its high speed reasoning action to expose inconsistencies in your opponents' arguments and find the murder culprit. This time Dangan Ronpa and My Navi News team up to bring you a special interview with Kanda Sayaka, the voice of V3's protagonist Akamatsu Kaede, and Kodaka Kazutaka, the series creator and scenario writer.

This is the first time the two have chatted! On top of that, the interview took place the day before the game went on sale, January 11th. Kanda-san had only played Chapter 1 by that point, and therefore did not know any of the later developments, but she talks about the newest installment at length! Also, pay attention to how she interacts with the deceptive Kodaka-san.

This interview discusses major spoilers from the first chapter of the game, so we recommend completing at least the first chapter before reading.

Kodaka Kazutaka Profile: Born July 8th, 1978 in Tokyo. Game developer. Creator and scenario writer of the Dangan Ronpa series. Works for Spike Chunsoft.

Kanda Sayaka Profile: Born October 1, 1986 in Tokyo. Made her debut in 2001 as part of a show biz commercial. Released her first single as a singer, “ever since”, in 2002. In 2003, after appearing in “Into the Woods”, she focused on playing various characters on stage. She was widely praised for her job in the role of Enoshima Junko in 2014's Dangan Ronpa the Stage. She was also awarded the 9th Voice Actor award for Best Actress in 2014 for playing Anna in the Japanese dub of Frozen.

You didn't know you were the protagonist at first?!

This is a talk about New Dangan Ronpa V3, but we have already warned reader that there will be spoilers, so please feel free to discuss things that would have been difficult to talk about in other interviews!

Kanda: All right! Giving comments at the commemorative release date event the day before the game came out was really tough.

So, first off, the it's a very sudden, shocking development that the protagonist you play, Akamatsu Kaede, turns out to be the culprit of the first chapter.

Kanda: Wow, this sure is fresh.

Kodaka: But it's probably a good thing to touch on it, otherwise we'll spend the entire time playing dumb and there won't be much to get out of the interview.

Kanda-san, when you read this scenario, how did you feel?

Kanda: We had talked about me voicing a new character, but I knew from the start that she was going to die in Chapter 1, haha. Since I heard that, I was wondering what kind of position she'd play in the game, and I earnestly asked them to let me take the role. And it turned out she was a protagonist of all things. I found that out much later. My manager might have known about it, but I was unaware that I was the protagonist...

When the main visual was unveiled during the announcement back in December of 2015, Akamatsu Kaede was not featured. At that point in time was the story already decided?

Kodaka: We had a prototype. As a result, at that stage I had already thought of having the protagonist Akamatsu Kaede die. It's easy to have the protagonist become a victim, but instead I had the idea to try and employ a trick to make the protagonist the culprit instead. I thought it would be difficult, but if I could pull it off, I definitely wanted to.

Kanda-san, you had a tough role to play, so was there anything in particular you had to be careful of while acting?

Kanda: It was less that I was doing my best not to be excited, but more that I took care to act as if my character wasn't going to die. I tried to not raise death flags, to seem inexperienced with everything. I played the part trying to keep in mind the tone of protagonists past.

Kodaka: We actually just redid Chapter 1 yesterday, but that inexperienced feeling was great. I thought to myself “You know what? We could just keep it like this.” Even in the days of the first Dangan Ronpa game, despite that Maizono Sayaka dies right away in the actual story, she acts as a Watson to Naegi in the demo. At that time too, I felt that we could have just kept things that way, and I had a similar thought to just do our best with Akamatsu this time too.

What was wanted was a self-assertive voice

Once again, why was Kanda Sayaka-san appointed to the role of Akamatsu Kaede?

Kodaka: That's a long story.

Kanda: It's basically just because I wanted to play the role, haha.

Kodaka: There are countless reasons, but one is because we couldn't just use a normal voice actor to follow up Ogata Megumi in 1 and Takayama Minami in 2. No matter who played the role, those two are just so influential and legendary that if we didn't change things up a bit, it wouldn't have gone well.

On top of that, Kanda-san would have to be my accomplice, pretending to have been playing Akamtasu Kaede as the protagonist all this time. Someone to help me fool the players. If it were someone new to the Dangan Ronpa franchise, it would have been hard to collaborate and work together like this. Because Kanda-san had played Enoshima Junko perfectly in the stage adaptation, and because I wanted to try working with her, I couldn't think of anyone else to ask.

Meanwhile, on the acting side of things, Kanda-san was praised widely for her expressions and gestures while playing Enoshima, but I was intrigued by her voice, and I wondered if she could play the Akamatsu role. Kanda-san's voice is self-assertive in a good way, so I wanted her to act using her own voice. It was less a matter of who could play the role most skillfully, and more that I wanted someone who could really put herself into the role of the protagonist.

Kanda-san, did you get this impression when they approached you for the role?

Kanda: Yes. I thought I should play the part cutely when I saw the visual so I used a voice that was a bit higher pitched than normal, but I was asked to speak “a bit more normally” and I realized they were looking for something closer to my natural speaking voice.

Kodaka: It's because I wanted to bring out the charmingness of “Kanda Sayaka-san's voice”. Looking back at the finished product, I'd say we hit the mark.

So there wasn't much of a difference between the Akamatsu you initially conceived and the one Kanda-san played.

Kodaka: When it came to Akamtasu, I wasn't a stickler about how I wanted everything done, I thought that a mix between what I thought and Kanda-san would be good. Because Akamtasu was the protagonist, I wanted a character who couldn't exist unless Kanda-san was involved, and so because of that I couldn't say too much or it would interfere with how the character coalesced.

Kanda: Yeah, you didn't say anything to me, did you.

Kodaka: The hard part was recording starting with the trial, wasn't it?

Kanda: I did a little bit of the pre-trial part before. Then after all the emotions came out during the trial section, we went back to the beginning.

Kodaka: Because the trials are serious, a lot of voice actors complain that it's difficult to come in and do them first.

Kanda: Really?! It was so amazing that I enjoyed it!

Kodaka: Kanda-san, to sum up what you’re especially good at in a few words: your voice. When you first start the trial, your voice is still really cute.

Then as the trial goes on, it gets steadily heavier. I'm really happy with the result. It isn't just adding weight—it's different than just throwing in a scream. You were Akamatsu Kaede until the very end.

Kanda: Well, surprisingly, I might have been more matter-of-fact about it than philosophical.

Kodaka: The seriousness of murder and the culprits coming to terms with being murderers is a motif in Dangan Ronpa. But in Akamatsu's case, it's a bit different, since she did it in order to protect everyone, so she didn't have the usual desperate panicking a culprit does. I left it up to you to tackle this never-before-seen pattern.

The one who's sick is Akamatsu? The environment? Kodaka?!

Of course one of the special features this time is that the protagonist is a character with a strong sense of justice. Kanda-san, what about Akamatasu did you sympathize with, and was there anything about her you couldn't sympathize with?

Kanda: Up until now in interviews I've said Akamatsu has a strong sense of justice and is very straightforward as The Protagonist, and while she does certainly have those sides, I don't know that I'd call her a good person, haha. Though since she doesn't think she's wrong, there's no ulterior meaning behind her words.

Because she believes what she thinks is right and just, she goes a bit crazy when her belief that “there's no way this is wrong” turns out to be mistaken. I think that's great. It's not that she's psychotic, but more that she never doubts that what she thinks is just. Did I get it right?

Kodaka: That's true. But I'd say that the madness is less Akamatsu's fault and more that of the environment. I can't even imagine being put in a situation like that. If I were ever forced into a mutual killing game, I wonder what I'd do... So I thought that Akamatsu's actions would be unexpected. Since she's so proactive, I figured she'd go for it.

Kanda: No, no. I say that's sick.

Kodaka: Then I wonder if I'm sick, haha.

Kanda: Just a bit, haha. Akamatsu really does just accept them blindly, justice and unity.

Kodaka: Naturally, in Dangan Ronpa so far there haven't been many characters who truly wanted everyone to get out to this extent. There's been a lot of cases of murders happening because of people reaching their breaking points. ((Jess's Note: I THINK.)) Akamatsu this time is someone aiming to get everyone out, and there's that escape game where you can try to get out with everyone in Chapter 1 (Note: a mini game where you control the characters and try to reach the goal while avoiding traps. It's extremely difficult.)

Kanda: How far can you get in that?

Kodaka: If you try really hard, you can clear it. Maybe 1 person in 50 can. When the QA people play-tested it, only one of them was able to beat it. Ha, it's probably impossible at the start.

Their relationship as accomplices began before the game

Kodaka-san, when you were creating the character of Akamatsu, did you have any motifs or things you were referencing?

Kodaka: Not character-wise; rather, the trick came before everything else. Since I was using a description trick (a method of leading the reader to believe one thing by using their preconceived notions in order to elicit a shock after the mystery is solved) to allow the protagonist to become the culprit, I knew they were going to kill someone. In mysteries, the character who uses the description trick is often reviled because they trick the reader and the characters alike. In order to avoid that, I think it was necessary to have a character like Akamatsu who was acting for “the sake of everyone”.

Kanda: But until today I've been a huge liar...seriously.

Kodaka: What I thought was really horrible was how when you were speaking at events, it was difficult for you to answer questions.

Kanda: When I would tell people I was the protagonist, despite that it wasn't exactly untrue, it became harder for me to say it since it's so short-lived and I started to not want to say it at all...

I suppose seeing the results of the V3 Survival Prediction Poll from the Namjatown Event (the results were announced the day before release day, January 11th, with Harukawa Maki in first place, Saihara Shuuichi in second, and Akamatsu Kaede in third) must have really made you feel that all the more, Kanda-san.

Kanda: The worst for that has been the event today.

Kodaka: You had a look like “You're going to ask about that, huh” haha.

Kanda: At the start, when I was first chosen to play the character, because I had played Enoshima Junko-chan in the stage play, there were a lot of people who thought there was something fishy going on. But then in the demo Akamatsu was shown to be earnestly participating in the trial, and it seemed like everyone changed their minds to “oh, I guess this is how we're going to do it.” Seeing that, I was relieved that they'd been successfully deceived.

Kodaka: That's true. In the beginning it was not going well, huh. It was a hard game there for awhile, but the demo and the cut-in illustrations probably made a lot of people think it would go that way. In addition, Kanda-san doing so many interviews might have made people think that there was no way she'd die.

Kanda: It's because I kept saying “I'm the protagonist!” with a huge smile on my face...

Kodaka: That's one reason why you were cast for the role.

So you really were accomplices, huh.

Kodaka: I couldn't have done this with someone I'd just met. I thought this would be an interesting way to start a game. Kanda-san, who do you think will survive the game?

Kanda: The characters I chose at Namjatown were Saihara-kun, Maki-chan, Amami-kun, and Tenko-chan.

Kodaka: But...you knew about Amami.

Kanda: Yeah...

((I fucking love Kanda Sayaka.))

Kodaka: You just really wanted to put him in?

Kanda: No, it was a tough choice, the girls included.

Kodaka: But it really is a waste that we didn't get to use Midorikawa-san in the trial.

Kanda: It's true. It's really true!

Kodaka: So, there might be a chance he could show up...

Aside from inflating her hopes like that, I heard that the demo was a last minute decision.

Kodaka: That's right. It was in the latter half of development, right down to the wire. But since before then we had been acting as if we'd do one, I'm glad we did.

Was there ever a time during recording where you [Kanda-san] asked Kodaka-san “What is this?”

Kanda: I got explanations of the situations and the layout and so on. But since I understood from the beginning that vocal tone was supposed to be close to my natural way of speaking, and since I had played all the games up until this point, I mostly understood where the lines were heading. Thanks to that, I didn't have a lot I worried about or struggled with. It was nice to go from being a player who was lied to and deceived to being an accomplice, haha.

Kodaka: Dangan Ronpa mixes gags and serious moments and therefore is a difficult script. Because Kanda-san is well-acquainted with the series, she understood what was comic relief and what was serious, so she didn't need anything explained and it was quite easy.

Kanda-san, were there any lines Akamatsu said that left an impression on you while you were playing her?

Kanda: Definitely “That's wrong.” I found out I was playing the protagonist much later on. When I looked at the script and saw that line there, I said “I get to say 'soreha chigauyo!' I sound like a protag!” and they told me, “No, you are the protag.” That's how I found out. “Soreha chigauyo!” is just so perfectly Dangan Ronpa... That was the line I asked to be allowed to say more than once; it was the first time a girl had gotten to say it.

((Actually, Komaru does say it once to Fukawa in DR:AE, but it's under different circumstances so...))

Kodaka: Indeed. Having a woman say those words was one of the things we thought of.

Kanda: But you went ahead and kept it “soreha chigauyo” after all, huh. It would have left a strange impression if you'd changed it to “soreha chigauwa” because she's a girl. When I recorded that line, that was when I truly felt like I was participating. Also, I personally remember everyone speaking together for the line “This is our answer.” Since Hayashibara-san had recorded the line just before, she was able to act as a guide for us to match up with. Timing the recording along with Hayashibara-san's “3, 2, 1: This is our answer” made me so happy that I wished I could record it with my ears.

Kodaka: For me it's the hotel. There are some risque scenarios, but the truth is I didn't write them—a substitute did and I just edited them afterward.

Kanda: I figured it was your hobby, Kodaka-san, haha.

Kodaka: No way. Out of all of the voice actors, Kanda-san and Ishida Haruka-san, who played Iruma Miu, were the only ones I knew. Iruma had plenty of raunchy lines from the beginning so I wasn't worried about her, but for Akamatsu I drug my feet a little because it felt kind of gross making someone I knew say things like that. It really was extreme.

Kanda: Even though I was fine saying it! Haha

Kodaka: I still got embarrassed. I mean I was the one in the booth doing the direction. I was thinking that because of Akamatsu's personality, she shouldn't be inviting anything erotic. But in general, I think the part where she hands the baton off to Saihara at the end of Chapter 1 was extremely good.

Their impressions of one another...

I would like to ask about the first time you spoke to one another.

Kodaka: What impressed me about Kanda-san was that I presented myself as someone who likes to mess with people and get messed with, and she picked up on that extremely fast.

Kanda: Yeah, probably, haha.

Kodaka: I thought to myself that she's got a good eye for people, and it was like she could see right through me—it was scary!

Kanda: No no no no, haha.

When did you first meet?

Kodaka: At the announcement for the stage adaptation.

Kanda: Because to fans Kodaka-san is the creator of Dangan Ronpa and therefore a godlike figure, the first time I met him I was extremely reverent. My feelings were like “Ah, it's Kodaka-san!” and I even got his autograph, haha. It was a little frightening to have the creator see my acting on the first night and I wondered if it would be okay, but him coming on subsequent performances became comforting, to the point where I wanted him to come to every show. Of course this is the case for the games and the anime, but for the stage show too, he's really like the characters' papa.

During the run of the play, did you seek advice on how to play a character or anything?

Kanda: I did. It was mostly “How was that just now?”

Kodaka: But there was nothing I could say. I wracked my brain, but there wasn't anything. It was a big deal to the staff that way before Kanda-san wrote about Dangan Ronpa on her blog. Because the series wasn't well-known back then because it had just started, it left a deep impression on me. That was why I had asked her to be part of the stage play, but the moment I saw Kanda-san's Enoshima Junko, that was that. From the very start, I was surprised: “She's amazing!”

Kanda-san, you don't give off the impression of someone who works hard, but do you hide that side of yourself?

Kanda: Um, I think it'd probably be cool to answer with “Nah, that isn't true,” but when it came to Enoshima, I worked myself within an inch of my life. I'd never practiced that much in my entire career as an entertainer.

Kodaka: The first thing I saw was the dress rehearsal, or maybe the rehearsals before that, but I was surprised at how perfect it was from that moment on. Whether it was genius or hard work...heh, it's probably a bit of both.

Kanda: Knock it off. I used to wonder a lot if you weren't asking or saying anything to me because I was beyond help.

Kodaka: It's because especially the first showing of the stage play, Enoshima was the highlight, and everyone was already thinking “Enoshima! Enoshima!”

Kanda-san, was it difficult separating how you played Akamatsu, a new character, vs. when you played Enoshima?

Kanda: It was. I was already a big fan of Enoshima Junko-chan from the start. On top of that, since the Toyoguchi Megumi, the character's original voice, was also there, I thought a lot about how to make it seem like she just stepped out of the game. This time it was like doing that in reverse, finding a way to get a real person into a game.

Kodaka: This time I wanted to bring Kanda-san's voice to life. It was easy to make a character completely different from Enoshima, but even as I was thinking that I didn't want her to concentrate on it too much, I worried that she'd bring along a little bit of Enoshima to the role. However, when we tried it out, there wasn't a trace of that at all.

Kanda: You were working on the anime at the same time. Since Toyoguchi-san was playing Junko-chan in real time for the first time in a long time, you could use that as a reference to set her and Akamatsu apart.

Kodaka: Ah, but it was been a very long time since Toyoguchi-san had played Enoshima. Because of that, everyone was more used to Kanda-san's version, so during recording I got a little confused sometimes, thinking “Is this okay for Enoshima?” It's pretty rare that both of your performances are considered to be the real thing.

((I want to defend Toyoguchi-san's honor here, but Kanda Sayaka does play a mean Enoshima, I have to admit.))

Reaction to Akamatsu Kaede’s execution scene?!

Kodaka-san, what elements were you worried about or were not decided up until the very end?

Kodaka: The gameplay. I could write the scenario with no problem, but I couldn't decide about gameplay so it took a lot of work. It was a tough battle, trying to put in difficult tricks that had meaning and didn't bring down the story. This far and away took the most time. The anime was also happening simultaneously, but even taking that out it still took a long time. The first game probably took me about half a year to write, while the second took about eight months. This time it took a year and a half. Based on my experience with the first game, I figured it would take about six months, but then it just never ended... It was tough.

Kanda-san, looking back over this game having recorded for it and played it, what do you think is the most amazing thing about Kodaka-san?

Kanda: I always feel like I want to open up Kodaka-san's head and see what's inside. Normally he's like a low-key middle-aged man, haha, but then he comes up with the executions and I think, “So he can think of things this cruel, huh.” Honestly he's kind of scary, seeming like he has multiple faces like that.

Kodaka: Don’t I actually have multiple faces though? Haha. But that's just my front. Because I have a front like that, I'm able do those things.

Kanda: You're surprisingly naïve. It's like you have a glass heart.

Kodaka: I do have a glass heart, haha. So, how was Akamatsu's execution?

Kanda: I liked it. Loved it.

((That's my girl.))

Kodaka: In an interview, someone asked Kanda-san “If Akamtasu were to be executed, what kind of execution would you want her to have?” and she answered: “One that was over in a second.” When I saw that, all I could think was “What a liar...” haha. The article said that she didn't want a lingering death, but in the end that's what she got.

Kanda: It was like that because I knew. I think it was the best execution. I wouldn't want it to happen to me. Out of all the ones I've seen up until now, it's the one that I'd want the least.

Kodaka: There were a lot of people on our staff who didn't like it either. They'd only seen the execution for Chapter 1 and they asked me if the entire game was going to be this heavy.

Kanda: Despite how many executions have come before, this one is the nastiest. She's clearly suffering!

Kodaka: I'm glad we didn't record any lines for that scene. There weren't any lines in the execution scene to begin with, since if we recorded any, it probably would have ruined your throat, haha.

Kanda: Because of that, I didn't know about it when we were recording. The first time I saw the death was when I played the game for the first time. When I saw it, I couldn't help but think “Kodaka-san, you're so scary!”

How about future developments...

Kanda-san, you've acted in the stage play, done themes for the anime, and played a character in a game. Is there anything else you'd like to try?

Kanda: I actually never thought I'd continue to be this involved. More than anyone realizes, I started out as just a fan. Because of that, it feels a little bit like “how long will this Cinderella Story go?”

Being allowed to act in the stage show, sing themes for the anime, then play a character in the new game has let me meet Kodaka-san and the other creators multiple times, and I can feel their deep love for the Dangan Ronpa franchise. They speak about the characters as if they're living people.

This time I was able to be an accomplice to those people, and they showed me how interesting it is to be on the side setting up the tricks. My introduction to the series was through the games, and it's all come back around to a game. Though my involvement now is very different than how I started. Because of that, I'm happy to do anything at all for this series in the future. Somehow or other, I'd like to think that I've created a part of Dangan Ronpa within myself...is that okay?

Kodaka: Yes, of course!

This is a bit premature, but Kodaka-san, have you given any thought to what you'd like to do next?

Kodaka: Having the previous characters from 1 and 2 appear in anime form felt like reuniting with them, and for that I'm glad. The games are to a certain extent the true content of the series, and though there would be times when we’d fumble, making an anime of it means that more people will play the game, and so the actors had a strong desire to make something entertaining.

Kanda: An anime... I wonder how many episodes I'll get to be in, haha.

Kodaka: Ah, but there's an issue with making an anime adaptation. If people play the game to the end, I get the feeling that from now on even if I say “This is what I want to do,” they'll think it's a lie... There are people reading who are still playing the game and some who have finished, probably thinking “Huh, what are you talking about in that ending?” So it's really difficult.

The game doesn't have anything like a “This is how things end” part, right?!

Kodaka: Well, I'd like you to see that as included.

Kanda: Whaaaat?! What does that mean? Now I want to know.

Kodaka: But Hayashibara-san praised the ending. “Does Dangan Ronpa always end like this?” she asked. When I told her “Not always. This time I intentionally wanted to end it this way,” she applauded and praised me, haha.

Kanda: And when you thought of it, you did a triumphant pose?

Kodaka: No, my heart was pounding. It's still pounding. You’ll love it or hate it. There are likely going to be some people who don't like it. Ah, but there were some people who didn't like the game world from 2 either, so...

Kanda: So it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, most likely.

Kodaka: You’ll enjoy the aftertaste, probably. Well, actually I have no idea. I really want to hear your thoughts after you beat the game, Kanda-san.

Well. Color me intrigued...

HEYyy !!!!! im pretty tired even though i napped for like1 ½ hrs just now but its okay jsadnka how are youu ?? i did sleep well but a little short though because i had to wake up at 9:30 for dance training :C ?? it was extremely exhausting today bc well i had 1 hr training alone before the others came and in the end i was there for over 4 hours yhjchnksx it was rlly a little too much but its okay now !! WIP Wednesday: SCRAP TIME!

Monday was great. Monday was soooo productive!

I couldn’t help picking up one of the responses @o-rchidae gave to my mashup challenge. I mean, it pretty much screamed “Hi! I’m a two scene story! Nice and short and DOABLE!” And so I rolled up my sleeves, did a little research, and BAM! By the end of the day, scene one was done and I was super happy with it!

...

And then I went to dinner, asked Mum a few questions for the second scene, had holes poked in my first scene, double checked a few things with o-rchidae, and BAM! The whole thing fell apart and needed redoing.

And I’ve not been able to force myself to focus on writing since. Seriously. Yesterday I couldn’t even make myself SIT IN THE DAMN CHAIR and open the document.

The good news is that I’ve gathered lots of info since then (remembered I have an online friend who’s actually had malaria!), so when I get around to taking another run at this, it should be even better.

The bad news is..........bleh. Wind completely taken out of the sail.

But! Since I liked it, here is the soon-to-be-demoed scene, so, for posterity, Peter goes to the hospital “American writer hasn’t been in for more than a physical in about twenty years” version.

Peter curled into his chair as best he was able and wished he’d just die. It would, he supposed in a vague, feverish sort of way, work just as well if the screaming baby across from him and the man having some sort of nervous breakdown three seats over were to die instead, but then he’d feel guilty on top of everything else. Besides, one death was more economical than two. He shifted position and wished he dared lay his head on Bertie’s shoulder.

“How long have you been back in the country?” Bertie asked, looking at the sheet of paper in front of him

It was damn decent of his cousin to fill out the paperwork. Then again, it was decent of him to haul Peter to the hospital to start with rather than just shoving him in a cab or something. Then again, it might be more economical driving himself. What were the cab fees from Downton to York? Oh, right. Bertie had asked a question. “Um, a week, I think?” Peter replied, trying to scrape together enough brain cells to remember. “Week and a half?”

Bertie jotted down the answer, then dug into his pocket for a small bottle, adding the information from the label to the page.

Peter closed his eyes against a wave of nausea and went back to wishing he’d die. What happened if one was violently sick in a waiting room? Did it get you seen sooner or did they just hope they could clean everything up before you gave everyone else in the room the flu? That screaming baby definitely did not need to catch his flu. That would really make it scream.

“Mr. Pelham?” a concerned, female voice said from somewhere in the world behind his eyelids. “What are you doing here?”

Peter opened his eyes and made to reply, only to realize the woman wasn’t addressing him. His first impression was of someone in her sixties, or maybe her seventies, wearing a nurse’s uniform.

Bertie smiled up at her. “Oh, hello Isobel. I didn’t know you were working today.” He turned and gestured to Peter. “This is my cousin, Peter Pelham. He’s not feeling well.”

“Flu,” Peter informed her. It belatedly occurred to him that he should say ‘hello’, but Bertie was talking again and it was rude to interrupt.

“Well, we hope it’s the flu,” the younger man replied.

Hang manners. “Dash it, Bertie, I don’t have cholera.”

“No, your symptoms are wrong for that,” Bertie agreed with admirable calm. That was what Peter liked about Bertie, really. He was so steady. “But that doesn’t rule out a lot of other things.”

“What are the symptoms?” Nurse Isobel asked, her tone brisk and professional. It was both comforting and, oddly, somewhat terrifying. Perhaps it was the fever, but she left Peter feeling like something under a microscope.

“Fever, chills, headache, nausea, fatigue,” Bertie rattled off. “You know, the usual list that can mean anything from cancer to typhoid to pregnancy.”

The nurse sighed. “Well, we can at least rule out that last one. Has he traveled lately?”

“Thailand,” Peter confirmed. “Along the border of Laos and…” Not Borneo. The name had changed when he was ten. Started with an M now. What the hell was the name of that country? “Borneo.” For clarification he added. “I’m a photojournalist.”

“Hmm,” the Nurse looked thoughtful. “Malaria is a concern in that area, but not the only one. Have you been experiencing a rash at all?”

“Isobel,” Bertie threw her a wry look. “Diagnosis is Dr. Clarkson’s job.”

She paused and for a moment Peter thought she’d look abashed, but instead she just shrugged. “Dr. Clarkson’s on holiday, so you’ll be seeing one of the other doctors. And I was only curious. I like to stay up on the patients.”

“Don’t I know it,” Bertie arched her eyebrows at, although his smile was decidedly fond.

Peter frowned, looking between the two of them. “Bertie? Do you come here often?”

His cousin gave him a surprised look. “Hm? Not at all, only Dr. Clarkson is the GP for Edith’s entire - oh.” Realization sank in and he laughed. “Right, I’m sorry! Peter, this is Isobel Crawley. Her husband was Robert’s third cousin.”

“Ah.” That made sense then. Of course they’d be familiar.

Introductions completed, even belatedly, Bertie continued his conversation. “Anyway, if Dr. Clarkson’s out, is there any way of know who we’ll be seeing?”

Isobel shook her head. “I’m afraid not. Dr. Leslie, Dr. Wallace, Dr. Nestor, and Dr. Barrow are the most likely candidates, but there are others.” She looked at Peter, her expression finally softening to something other than keen academic interest. “I don’t suppose you’ll have problem being seen by a male doctor?”

Peter chuckled at that. “No,” he assured her. He didn’t add that he’d never minded being seen by men. That sort of humor was bad taste in a doctor’s office, and being ill wasn’t much of an excuse.

“Well, then, that leaves plenty of options. If I can find out who it will be in advance, I can share some of what you’ve already told me.”

Before either man could respond, someone hailed Nurse Isobel - properly Nurse Crawley, he supposed - from down the hall and she had to excuse herself.

Bertie sighed. At Peter’s questioning look, he explained, “I’d rather hoped we’d be able to get you in to see Dr. Clarkson, just for familiarity sake. Very English of me, I know.”

Peter managed another chuckle at that. “Don’t worry, Bertie. I’m sure they all know what they’re about. And really, if I can survive a rattlesnake bite in Aruba, I can survive the flu in England.” The infant across the room gave a particularly loud scream and his head throbbed in response. “Although, I might honestly have preferred the snake bite.”

“I can’t believe you took pictures of the snake.” Bertie shook his head, turning his attention back to the paperwork.

“They’re an endangered species. Seeing one in the wild like that was a once in a lifetime opportunity, even if I stepped on it first.” With a sigh, Peter closed his eyes. “I may have the attention span of a drunken gnat, but I’m good at my job.”

“Don’t be so hard on yourself, Peter. You have at least the attention span of a sober house fly.”

On today’s

The world hates to see me smile

I went out yesterday to get this game to play all week because I really enjoyed the demo. I decided to not think about the stuff making me cry continuously and want o hang myself and just do that

So I went o my friends house whose water doesn’t encourage my hair to fall out to shower yesterday so I could stay home. Decided not to let myself be preoccupied over that boys stream and right before I went to start my game

I get a text from my uncle. Telling me I’m just as bad as my mother and that tomorrow (today) starts the moving process

That they’re gonna be mad at me when I decline to help. I cleaned from June through September. Imagine cleaning a sewer that hasn’t had running water for 3 years. IMAGINE THAT. that’s my house. I’m not exaggerating. I didn’t realize that was my last change to take a pic and prove it. Now no one will ever believe me. I was more focused on making the stress of walking on caked on shit stop and just cleaning

Well anyway. I haven’t slept in over 24 hours now. And I’m gonna be harassed by my family while they tell me what a worthless peace of shit I am.

How dare you let moms HUSBAND do all the things for her for 3 months that you’ve been doing for the past 2 years. Fucking awful child.

I can’t. I can’t. Fucking. Even. Describe. Like I feel like my head will explode rn and I wish it would.

I hate my family. Why wasn’t I put up for adoption.

NANOWRIMO

Okay, so I only got 2,599 words. lol. This is a story that I’ve been working on and crafting for 3 years now, with the help of my older sibling who isn’t on tumblr. At one point I had 10k long novella written out for it. There’s also a 2nd 10k long novella from another character’s perspective as well. This is most likely going to be the first chapter, and I’m sorry that it’s really rough. This story doesn’t have a name, but at one point it was known as How I Lived, so I’ll be referring to it as HIL until I decide on something better.

Summary- A world where your chest glows a color when you’re near your soulmate, Heath, a boy who doesn’t believe in soulmates, or love, gets the biggest surprise. (note: only about half of this is in the story so far lmao)

Story:

My brother always tells me that waiting is even better than the reward, but to that I say bullshit. That’s all we do, right? We just sit back and wait. We wait until it’s time to talk to our friends, we wait until it’s time to go to sleep, to wake up, to go to work, to go home. Loops and endless waiting. My brother will die on a hill claiming that the wait is the best part. Personally, I think he’s just looking for an explanation as to why he hasn’t found his soulmate yet.

Like clockwork, Mel knocks on my door at six-forty-five that morning and I’m out the door, a quick goodbye to Onus and my backpack swinging onto my shoulder.

“Alright, spill. Jungle Blitz 4 demo, promising or no?” Last night we were up on a voice call waiting for leaks of the newest demo of the next game in our favorite video game series. Mel had to go to bed before the demo dropped.

“Depends. Do you like good games or not?”

“Oh God. That bad?”

“Think Kingsley has a kid.”

“So… good then?”

“Continue thinking, Lane is canon.”

“Holy shitting fuck. No.”

“Yes.”

Mel squeals a little bit and I know she’s going to be smiling about this for the rest of the day. “I can't believe the audacity of them to release the demo on the first day of school.”

“Oh, come one, it was world wide, they didn’t do it just to spite you.”

“You don’t know that, Heath.” Mel wiggles her finger at me and I can’t tell if she’s completely serious or not.

We continue our conversation as we make our way to school and as we pass through the student parking lot, a group of jock-ish seniors slow their conversation to glare at me. Mel just kind of glances my way and we don’t say anything about it.

“Alright, your first period is Mr. Long in room 105? Algebra 1?” I flip my hair out of my eyes and Mel laughs just a little bit.

“Get a haircut, and yeah. Well, yeah and no. Mr. Long in room 105, yeah. But it’s for Algebra 2.”

“How in the- That’s… I’m only in geometry you smart bitch.”

“Yeah! Remember, I was ahead of you in middle school too.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I walk her to her class and hug her goodbye. “Good luck, sorry you’re like ten minutes early.”

“Eh, it’s the first day, who cares?” Mel shrugs and her jackets make a sound.

As soon as Mel enters her class, the first bell rings and I head to the stairs. On my way up, I spot a very confused and short freshman gripping their class schedule.

“You need help finding your first period?” I’m afraid my voice scared the poor kid.

“My.. My brother said that he would… he would walk me to my first period.”

“Where is he?”

“I don’t… know.”

“I can help you in the meantime, can I walk you to you class?”

“Y-yeah.”

“Okay, coo. What’s your class?”

“Room 105.”

“Hey, I just walked my friend Mel there. She’s super nice, and a freshman like you.” I turn around and motion for them to follow me. “So what’s your name?” After a beat, “And pronouns.” They look very feminine, short bleached pigtails, blue tips, very big, bright blue eyes, a small button nose, and a thin pink jacket.

“Naomi.. And uh.. She/her.”

“Okay, cool. I’m Heath and I use he/him.” I smile at her, but she still looks like she’s ready to explode any second. “So what are you into? Do you play video games or anything?”

“Um… Kind of, not really.” We get to her class and I point at Mel, who is sitting at a table by herself.

“Go make sure Mel makes at least one friend, please.”

“Sure.. thing…” Naomi then rushes into the class, her tiny backpack bouncing with her.

When I finally get to my class, I choose a seat towards the back of the class, having not recognized any friendly faces in the crowd. My first four classes go by slowly, my teachers discuss silibi and give us “peer bonding” assignments to get to know the classmates we’ve known since freshman year. Lacking as that sounds, it’s still stressful and by the time I get to lunch, I’ve forgotten that Mel and I have the same lunch.

“Heath, I’ve been texting you. What the heck?” Mel sits down next to me, startling me from the astral plane my soul had traveled to.

“Oh, sorry, I was spacing out.” I check my phone, sure enough there’s five unread messages about lunch.

Then Naomi sits down next to Mel and gives me a little wave.

“Hey, you have lunch with us!” That gets a simple smile from Naomi. I pull a piece of bread from my backpack and begin to chow down.

“You cannot be serious.” Mel glares at me, her glasses slipping down her nose.

“What?” I ask, my mouth full.

“That’s your lunch?” Mel has pulled out a sandwich and soda can, while Naomi has a bag of chips and a salad.

“Yeah. I slept in this morning and Onus forgot to make me lunch.”

“Oh for christ’s sake, here,” Mel pulls out a second sandwich from her bag and hands it to me.

“Ohoho, thank you!” I kiss Mel’s hand begin to chow down a second time.

Just then, a loud bang sounds and we look over from our cafeteria table near the double doors, to see none other than Ronnie fucking Yule, their face pressed against the glass. “Let me in bro,” they mouth.

“Who’s that?” Mel asks.

“Ronnie, they’re in our discord server. You’ve talked to them before.” I open the door for then and they join us at our four-person table.

“My little brotato chips, what is cracking?” I can just feel the cringe radiating off of Naomi and I’d be lying if I said the only reason why I wasn’t cringing as well was because I love Ronnie with my entire fucking heart.

“Not much, just my bones.” And then I crack my neck.

“Oh, yucky. Hey, who’re you, you little carraromo?” Ronnie is talking more so at Naomi, rather than with her. That’s just a thing that they tend to do tho.

“I’m N-Naomi.”

“Sweet! Hey, so say you’re not just Naomi, but also a sister. Would you be having a brother who is on the football team?”

“Uh… Yes…?”

At this point in the conversation I’ve spaced out again and only really care about my sweet sandwich. I wait for lunch to end. Then I wait for the day to be over and I walk home with Mel.

I ask her if she plans on joining any clubs, she says no. I ask her what she thought of Naomi, she tells me Naomi is pretty cool so far. I ask her how her day went, apparently okay. I ask her if she wants to hang out at my house to play Jungle Blitz, she says yes.

My house isn’t much to look at, to be fair I’m surprised we still have it. It’s a mobile home, and a very homely one at that. It’s painted a perfect suburban beige on the outside, and a sickly sweet yellow on the inside. Our kitchen and livingroom are mostly connected, but there’s still a breakfast bar separating the two. We have fairly lights up in the living room year round because one reason or another when Onus and I were younger. The house always smells like either musty old books or whatever was most recently cooked, usually pancakes or spaghetti.

I sprawl out on the couch, Mel takes her place on the floor, leaning back on the couch, and she starts playing the third Jungle Blitz game. “I need one of the achievements still.” I fall in and out of sleep, watching Mel play. We hold a running commentary on events of the game, events which I am so well in tune with that I’m able to talk about them in my sleep apparently.

Mel leaves after a few hours, and I’m free to sort out the stack of silibi and other assorted papers I need my mom to sign. I leave them on the couch and I head to bed.

The next day of school is the first day of one of the three clubs I’m a part of (I know, social butterfly Heath), which is the first thing Onus informs me of when he hands me the stack of papers my mom signed sometime during the night. The next thing he tells me is that he’s made pancakes. I’m out of bed, ready for school and pounding my fists on the table within the next four minutes.

“Calm down, bro. I have a headache.” Onus serves me the pancakes and it takes everything in my not to eat the plate with the pancakes. “Didn’t put butter on-” I take a bite out of the stick of butter on the breakfast bar. “No. No, jesus christ, not this early in the morning you fucking gremlin.”

“Awugh c’mon O-nie,” I spit some crumbs his way and he rubs his temples.

“How old are you? Six or sixteen?”

“As if a six year old could be as funny as me.”

“Fucking Hell.”

“I have club today?”

“Chew your goddamn food. Yes, you have GSA today. Tomorrow you have DnD.” Onus reaches into his backpack haphazardly lain on the kitchen counter to pull out a textbook and a bunch of papers.

“What- that?” I swallow my food between words.

“Just some biomed bullshit. Doesn’t really matter.”

“Ah.” Just as he spreads his papers out to start working on them, there’s a knock at the door, and I’m stuffing my papers in my messenger bag and sprinting out the door, tugging shoes on as I run.

“Guess who got breakfast this morning!” I brag.

“You, for once?” Mel yawns and clearly would rather be in bed.

“Haha! Onus is the bestest brother in whole entire wide world ever!”

Mel yawns in agreement.

Similarly to yesterday, when we pass through the parking lot, the group of seniors hanging around some small sports-ish car all stare at us, mostly me, and glare. One of them laughs a little bit. When I glance over, usually I ignore them, I realize that I do, in fact, recognise most of them. The one laughing is Calvin James.

Calvin James sure is a character, or something like that. I’ve never spoken to him, but I’m certain he’s spoken about me. Not that his friends are horrible and the worst people in the whole world, but they sure don’t like any of the trans kids who go to school here. Including me. And probably Mel is they ever get close enough to her to know that.

“I need a haircut still,” I whine as we enter the school. Calvin James is the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. “This sucks!” I flip my hair out of my eyes and my glasses almost fly off my face.

“Get one then.”

“I need Onus to take me, but he’s busy with, like, adult stuff or some shit.” When we get to Mel’s class I walk in and sit with her at her table.

“Do you think my parents could take you?”

“Um… Maybe?” I think about this for a moment. “Wait- new topic, are you going to GSA today? Please say yes. You have to say yes or I’ll cry.”

“Bitch.”

“Fucker.” We makes hearts with our hands to really get the fact that we actually hate each other across.

While we’re having our chat, Naomi joins and we welcome her, there’s a brief exchange in which Mel agrees to go to the club after school today, only if Naomi goes too and Naomi agreed to because it beats just watching the football team practice while she waits for her brother to drive her home.

I only get a few complaints from teachers about the crumpled papers, it’s mostly just jokes though. At lunch, Ronnie joins us again.

“Heath, you need a snake?” Ronnie offers an applesauce cup to me and I oh so humbly accept it from them.

All but inhaling the applesauce, it’s gone sooner than anyone can start a new conversation. As I slam the empty applesauce cup onto the table, a group of preppy-adjacent freshman girls pass by us and sicker to each other, pointing at Naomi.

“I can beat them up for you,” I offer, wiping applesauce from my face.

“Haha, n… no. That’s not… needed.” I’m just now realizing that Naomi might not be stuttering from anxiety and she might actually just have a stutter.

“If you say so.” I shrug my shoulders and start a conversation with Ronnie about our Dungeons and Dragons characters, before moving on to talk about how GSA is meeting after school.

After lunch, my next three classes are boring and nothing particularly happens in them. At the end of the day, I head back to my art class where GSA meets.

“Hey Heath!” I’m greeted by Jae, who is in conversation with a freshman, who must me new this year.

“‘Sup.” I start moving some of the tables together so there’s a large table for about twelve people to sit around. “We’ll be starting soon, probably. Take your seats, please.” Jae and the freshman sit down at the other end of the table, soon Ronnie joins, then three small freshman, then Mel and Naomi. “Okay, we’ve got mostly everyone who will be showing up today, and it’s about time to start.” We start with check ins, which consists of stating your name and your pronouns?

“I’m Heath, this club’s president, and I use he/him pronouns.”

“Ronnie, I’m the vice president, they/them.”

“Mel, she/her.”

“Naomi, she/her.”

“Christian, he/him.” The freshman with Jae.

“Jae, the secretary, he/him and they/them.”

“Felicity, she/her.” One of the three freshmen.

“Alex, she/her.” The next freshman.

“Kali, she/her.” The last freshman.

“Okay, thanks for coming, everyone, today we’re just gonna set some stuff up for the rest of the year…”

The meeting goes well enough, the three freshmen mostly just whisper and giggle to each other, but other than that nothing goes wrong. I walk home with Mel after the club and I eat dry cereal out of the box as I do homework in the living room.

Mom doesn’t come back home that night, and I feel sorry about how many hours she’s currently working.

The next morning goes business as usual, except for the fact that I didn’t get any sleep at all. Onus arrives at the house, makes me a pancake, packs me a lunch and does does homework while I get ready for school. I leave the house with Mel, we walk through the school parking lot.

“School parking lot” is where things deviate from business as usual. As we’re walking by the regular group of jock-adjacent kids, they snicker at me and I turn to them.

“You’re just gonna do that everyday, huh?” I shout. The morning is bright, cool and the perfect time to throw some hands.

“Keep walking, girl,” one of the guys, a taller, lankier one, who isn’t even facing my direction just kind of shouts back out of the side of his mouth.

“Keep laughing, asshat.” I tiptoe my way towards them, and I can feel Mel plant herself in the pavement.
