Pink Poodle Makeup

Let's face it. Coquette has become boring as hell. Gone are the days of tongue-in-cheek vulgarity and campy, over the top plays of femininity. I say we bring things back to the more fun aspects: garish and fun. And for this i'm taking inspiration from fabulous pink poodles. Think your grandma's kitschy pink house, bold eyes and lips and that gorgeous canine dressed in bows with a eye catching fur design. It's big, bold, glamorous and fun.

Base

A thin line between satiny and plastic. You want to have full coverage, avoid the skin peeking through, instead focus on getting a completely flawless finish. It's ok if you choose to go matte or demi-matte with foundation here as additional shine will be added later. Conceal how you normally would, but avoid harsh contour, or refrain from contour completely. This is also a great time to underpaint if you want a more kitschy look. When powdering, ensure that it's a pink or lavender loose powder. Remember: you're not trying to look natural.

Face

Blush should be bold, keep it to bubblegum pinks or peaches depending on your skin tone and apply on the apples to start then drag the blush upwards towards the cheek bone. Nyx Buttermelt Pressed Powder Blush in My Butta Half & Butta Together. This is also the step to add more shine to the face if you wore a matte foundation. Liquid highlighter is best, especially in pink/pearlescent tones. Apply to nose bridge, nose tip, brow bone, high points of the cheek and cupids bow. Try Benefit High Beam Satin Pink Liquid Highlighter or Fenty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Wattabrat

Brows

You can do your brows normally, or you can go for a late 50s - early 1960s style brow. These brows are thicker, fluffier but well groomed. Don't think soap brow. Go for a relatively defined arch-- no straight brows. But the arch can be rounded or sharp depending on preference.

Eyes

Eyes are the most fun, as you can go two ways. First lets start with eyeliner, you can either simple follow your natural eyeshape with no wing (recommended if going for the first eyeshadow look) or go for again a classic cat eye. When it comes to shadow, the first option is leaning into candy colors: blue, purple and pink. Liquid eye paints like the Half Magic Chromeaddiction Matte in Sky Juice are perfect as they are vivid and don't budge. Apply all over the lid and then go in with your biggest, most flirtatious lashes.

Another option is the classic 60s cut crease. For this I recommend MAKEUP BY MARIO Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette: The Neutrals. Start with a neutral base (relative to your skin tone), then with a cool brown shadow apply directly to the crease, wing it out if desired and again add you liner and lashes. For extra camp, apply lashes to the bottom lash as well. Be sure to blend with mascara (such as Too Faced Better Than Sex) or if forgoing lashes, apply thick coats of mascara. An eyeshadow primer is recommended.

Lips

Finally tying the look all together is the lips. My preferred look, is to do a matte cherry red like Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick in H.B.I.C paired with the blue eye look and a bubblegum or peachy pink with the cut crease. For the truest bubblegum pink look no further than MAC Candy Yum-Yum. Or to tone it down with a classic 60s pink lip you can wear Revlon Pink in the Afternoon, famously worn by icon Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. A nice middle ground between the two would be Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Tint in Petalcore. To avoid going too matte, top with gloss such as 3D Hydra Lipgloss in 33.

I was lying in bed this morning thinking about flags, like you do, in particular the TEDtalk Roman Mars gave about flags, and his praise of the Chicago flag as iconic -- among other things, as remixable. 

The flag above is the state flag of Askazer-Shivadlakia, which is a bit of an in-joke made manifest -- out of patriotism I nicked a Chicago star and turned it Askazer orange, putting it on a field of “Shivadh” (Tumblr) blue. 

But the simplicity of the flag also means that, like the Chicago flag, it’s highly remixable. Now, Pride has been a huge deal in Askazer-Shivadlakia since it began there, and now it’s an even bigger deal because they have their first out gay king. 

You want a classic vintage Pride flag from Askazer-Shivadlakia? Boom.

Heteronormative Nonsense? On MY timeline?

When Jungkook and Charlie sang Left and Right and the lyrics were gender neutral while the music video implied Charlie was having a whole psychotic meltdown about his romantic obsession with Jungkook, folks said that assuming it was a song about a gay couple was being irrational, and that speculating that either artist might be queer was full-tilt delulu.

Yet over on Twitter, there's apparently a leak of one of JK's upcoming songs, and it seems the word "girl" is used, so some folks are tweeting that assuming Jungkook is heterosexual in his personal life makes complete sense now.

Golly gosh. I didn't realize those were the rules!

I guess Elton John, Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Ricky Martin, Lady Gaga, Demi Lavato, Halsey, AND LEONARD GODDAMNED BERNSTEIN all have to turn in their rainbow flags, then.

OR we could all rub our two collective brain cells together in this, the high holy month of pride, and stop allowing heteronormativity to bias our perceptions of a person and their body of work.

Look, let's be for real for real right now, okay?

Wearing a skirt in a photoshoot doesn't make you trans instead of cis; putting a queer icon on your pants doesn't make you gay instead of bi; using rainbow colors on a set doesn't make you bi instead of pan; singing about the opposite gender doesn't make you straight instead of gay.

It makes you an artist portraying various aspects of the human experience.

That deserves to appreciated without being weaponized as a "gotcha moment" in online ship wars.

And if, over time, a consistent theme keeps cropping up in an artist's work? Like maybe the constant use of pink-purple-blue colors and the male and female symbols?

That's worth speculation.

But unless the artist specifically talks about it, it's really not our place to go making assumptions and stating them as fact.

Get comfortable with not having all the answers. Not knowing things is also an aspect of the human experience.

Anyway, did you guys get a chance to see all the goodies from FESTA? I managed to catch some of it. Loved it so much, especially the dance practices. Wish I saw all of it, but there's so much going on these days.

what an interesting ask! so i took a look at a few of the blogs i came across, or that came to mind and here's a bunch of my favourites (in no specific order)

to begin with, i always always love gio @heartshaped-lou 's themes. she has the prettiest themes which just yk they just work. Always. Look at her current header.

I love hope's header. I love the vibe of it all. Hell yeah, punk is not dead. She's badass, that header is badass and I'm in love.

Mari @hlkings icon (which is also her header) is very very cool.

Very cool. Just like her. I remember talking to her abt headers and stuff once and she told me how it's become sort of her brand now. It' totally goes along her vibe, and i love that every time i see the hot Louis smoking pic i think of her.

Then there's my beloved dheera @stylinsuns. Her headers, even tho not larry related, always serve aesthetic. She's a full on aesthete, she's up there. And her most recent header is just *chef's kiss* to die for.

flowers tend to be very good at being discreet and at the same time letting those you want to know you're queer, so give lavender and violets a chance (anything purple goes tbh)

some discreet, but common bi symbols would be the bisexual double moon and just generally the colours pink, purple and blue on almost anything! the colour scheme is pretty recognizable amongst queer folk, but not enough to get hate-crimed, in my experience at least

here's a general list of aspec symbols! they're relatively unknown, so should be discreet, but the ace of diamonds is sometimes used specifically for demiros/demiaces !
