What criticisms of Deirdre?
hahaha... i really don't hate deidre at all, but as for her use in genealogy of the holy war, her use is the most limited out of every fire emblem character because she needs to be taken out of your army for the plot to happen. she's a walking womb. also she knows about the prophecy about her bringing doom into the world if she has a life outside of the spirit forest but she wants to jump sigurd's bones so bad she leaves the place designed to not cause a catastrophe and causes a catastrophe by getting discovered by the loptus cult and fucking her half brother who ends up being her second husband
i'll give her credit for not knowing that arvis is her brother and getting her mind wiped by the loptus cult to become arvis's wife but she's a goddamn moron who instigated the doom of the world by doing the one fucking thing she wasn't supposed to do
and it doesn't help that shouzou kaga has. 0 respect for this woman and by extension her mother cigyn, if you look into the meta material surrounding genealogy, there's a lot of blantantly sexist and very tasteless material surrounding deidre and cigyn that i don't know if i can get into without triggering someone here.
the short of it is that kaga is a sexist douchebag. julia got off pretty lightly all things considered so i end up liking her a lot more as a result because she's not a loaded minefield to navigate.

My only knowledge of the fire emblem 4 game (Sigurd seliph Julia Deidre ) has been Fire emblem heroes, and what little info the wikis give me
Anyway I freaken love Eiryns and her tragic tale. She has a crush on the prince? Cool. Oh her sister use to date him? Okay. Her sister get killed! She has to bring the prince back to go be a prince and he gives her shit (I think) and he’s now hanging out with a minor who is a dancer that you’re lowkey jealous of. By the way you three all look like siblings and Lewyn’s mom Lana del ray is a brunette (I think). Not only that I think she can only s rank lewyn or have his kids anyways while lewyn can be the father of other characters too. Eiryns takes over as queen while lewyn gives his body up for some ghost to foster father Julia and not be a father to his children.
Her life could be one of those early 2000s movie road trip with a girl she hates, the dude she has a crush on just for everything to go to hell while she has an awesome character design.

still not fully back yet but i am making some roster adjustments in case i do make an effort to come back, with those being:
no more genshin ocs. the only one that's staying is deidre because she simply refuses to leave my brain + i'm obsessed with her. as for canon muses, ningguang, kaveh, and fischl are getting removed as well. love them all to death, but i can't do them justice i fear
all fire emblem characters are technically getting "removed" aka shoved onto a secret menu but only like one other person goes here anyway so w/e
leon danganronpa is also getting added to that secret menu! both dangan ocs are getting booted tho-
basically the only muses here for public "use" are ironically all genshin characters lmao

Spitballing a Fire Emblem Jugdral mod for a Paradox Grand Strategy game + Some Alt History Ideas
This idea originally started off as thinking about a Europa Universalis 4 mod since that's the only paradox game I've played, but thinking about it later, Crusader Kings is almost certainly a better choice. I just don't know the mechanics as well so what follows is mostly alt history ideas with some EU4 mechanics that I think exist in some capacity in CK. The primary religion of most of Jugdral would be something resembling either the way different Islamic Schools work in EU4, or like Hinduism with every nation being locked into choosing patron Deities representing the founding Dragon of that country. Cult of Loptyr would exist in a few scattered provinces.
Grannvale would probably be something resembling the HRE, with Belhalla as The Emperor. Their heir dies at war with Isaach, and a regency council is implemented for Belhalla given Azmur is too sick to rule. This council would comprise of Reptor, Lombard, Arvis, Ring, Byron, Claud.
Chalphy would have a unique mission tree and events to subjugate surrounding territories and incorporate them into the Empire's territory, and Sigurd would be heir for the earlygame, with insane general stats. Event would fire giving him Consort Deidre of unknown Dynasty. Verdane probably has razing mechanics so Horde-esque government. Agustria probably has Eastern tech or some kind of boost to cav to infantry ratio. Artillery probably get represented by Mages depending on tech group and Archers (which are worse) are what you get if you don't have the right tech.
If Sigurd succeeds in subjugating Agustria, a event will fire with most members of Grannvale declaring a coalition war on Chalphy, Silesse will ally Chalphy but be having a pretender war rebel problem that has to be sorted out first.
Winning that war triggers the event where Arvis assassinates Sigurd and Revokes the Privilegia. Gen 2 then follows as you'd expect with state religion being changed to Cult of Loptyr for the Empire, and this leading to a revolution with Seliph at the head of it.
But, more interesting than this is the potential for alt history. What if Sigurd dies early?
Well, presumably, Grannvale descends into a Civil War. If Veltholmer comes out on top, the same broad plot will unfold, Arvis will just have to finish the subjugation missions himself before Gen 2 can fire.
If another Grannvale Duke wins, then we'll assume Julius has been born already and Manfroy takes him away. Manfroy can then start his own revolution with Julius at the head, and Julius himself would not be Literally Just Loptyr at this point, so he'd take a similar role to Seliph. There might be some kind of event chain that could be used to delay him falling to Loptyr possession, because it could get pretty interesting if he hasn't consolidated power yet but changes state religion to the Cult, you could get another internal conflict, possibly between him and Julia (religious league war).

I am extremely late to this but a while back Tamafry drew a Fire Emblem Sigurd and Deidre Sleeping Beauty AU and I thought, "does that make Arvis Maleficent?" So I have finally drawn that.

Engage soundtrack : opening song
Welcome to yet another episode of "I have no life outside a certain video game about a dragon whose hair color is that of 3d glasses of theatre"
So, since I keep hearing people saying that Engage's soundtrack are lame or whatever, I decided that I should process to a full analysis of how Engage uses it's soundtrack in it's storytelling.
Begining by the Opening song : Emblem Engage.
Note that I am using the JPn version of the lyrics for that commentary because I do things the old fashion way
Here is the link to my translation of the jpn lyrics . Also disclaimer but since there is no actual instrumental of the opening (just the song or the guitar cover) I will try to get the instruments right but that might not be easy task, so if you noticed I made a mistake please feel free to tell me.
Alright so let's get things clear first. Fire emblem fans, because they are fire emblem fans, are obsessed with comparing this opening song with a certain song sung by a white hear lady with lavender eyes to claim it's bad... what ? No, not Deidre ! I am talking about Edge of Dawn ! And of course it's pointless because it's like comparing an apple pie with an orange cake. Edge of Dawn is a melancholic song from the pov of an Edelgard that would wish to have Byleth by her side.
Emblem Engage is a cantus bellax. It's supposed to be a dynamic song motivating one to fight as indicated by the lyrics.
but when people say it's "bad" or "cringe" I really ask myself what do they mean by that ? The compostion/music/instrumental ? I don't think so since people claimed to like it better like that. The lyrics ? IDK they seems pretty well written to me. The singing voice ?Idk Ryo seems good to me. Anyway, let's get into this.
Emblem engage gets a lot of musical variety in it's compostion.
The song opens on an explosion of sounds (1), with the sound of trumpets, drums and electronic dubsteps mixing to create a glorious epic starts, which mixes with a subtle remixes of the Fire Emblem theme (2). Ryo's singing voice subduing the dubsteps to give the feeling that just like Alear, you ended up waking from a long sleep and that this beginging is welcoming your awakening and celebrating it. This part of the song goes cresendo until the first rupture of this melodic theme to introduces the first verse/ couplet with a brief pause/silence to put emphasis on the singing voice of the narrator.
We go back to dubsteps creating explosive sounds on background mixed with the instrusments creating a very up- beat sounds, with a guitar softening the dubsteps before going hard as the narrator reprise the singing. From there the sounds go crescendo, with the background music sounding even more explosive and energetic with drums and a horn playing following the epic theme of the song.(3)
From there the music varies to the thrid musical variation, the bridge, with the sounds going lower to create a tension point with the dubstep emphazising this impression. The drums and the dubstep mixes to emphasize the tension going along with the lyrics to mimic the indications given by the narrator (解き放て吼えろ/Unleash and howl!) as the music goes cresendo with the horn, violin and the guitar going hard to reaching the highest pitch to give more power to the screaming voice.(4)
We are now at the chorus with once again instrumental + subtle dubsteps marriage going on to create the impression of an explosion once again.(5)
We move on to the second verse, which is more subdued then the first one leaving it to the dubstep mixed with the sound of piano softening the second part of the song creating a decresendo effect, the guitar making a return but even then this part of the opening reamins less poweful, focusing on more subdued sounds dominated by this alliance between the dubsteps and the piano creating a more melancholic aspect to a song that overall remains dynamic, which fits perfectly the atmosphere of the fell xenologue.(6)
Going to the second bridge, this part is following the pattern establish with a retun to a more varied instrumental including violin whose sounds soften the dubsteps as the music goes cresendo and the trumpets creating a transition to the epic tone of the first part, with the guitar returning along with the drums.(7)
The second chorus returns to the same tone as the first one and once again, this part close with the sounds of timbals creating a pause to lead to the eight musicaly different part of the song : a little bridge with a much more calm atmosphere as it is dominated by violin playing mixing with brass instrument. Then the drumps and guitar comes back with a guitar solo creating a more intense atmosphere.
And then we go back to the bridge with the end of the guitar and the dubstep coming back, softening the whole as the music goes from decrescendo to cresendo again, following the same structure as the bridge of the begining, but with a little brigde of violin going wild to intensify the next scream, with the instrumental going cresendo once again.
The song concludes by a brief silence and followed by a piano and synthetizer sounds creating a wrapping impression.
The song as a total of 14 variations : 1/ the beging of the soung exploding 2/ the mix with the Fire emblem theme creating a polyphony effect 3/ the first verse 4/ the first bridge 5/ the first chorus and while the second part of the songs repeats the same structure minus 1 and 2, it has a more soft tone to fit with the atmosphere of the fell xenologue making it so that 6/ the second verse /7 the second bridge and 8/ the second verse being variations of 3, 4 and but more subdued while 8 follows the same structure as 5. Then the little brigde 9/ the guitar solo /10, itself devided into 10 and 11 before returning to 4 and then introducing 12, the little brigge before briging back 5 and then a the melody replayed softened 13/ and ends up with this little piano melody /14 that imitates the accumulation of light.
The main theme follows the same composition, but with a guitar cover, and it begins by 14/ before 1 plays and the soungs follows, and instead of playing the second part of the opening, it replays the first one with more or less variations.
The first part of the song focus on the event of the main story while the second part is focuse on the Xenologue, hence their different vibes; the main story goes for a very upbeat and dynamic sound going with the general light hearted narrative while the second part is more subdued due to the Fell Xenologue's darker tones, hence the returns to the dynamic tone at the chorus is going with how Alear's arrival in the other Elyos is causing a new hope.
Now the lyrics.
The narrator : the song seems to be sung from Marth's Pov speaking to Alear/the player and motivating into accepting the heroic role, hence why I call this opening a cantus bellax. This song is from the POV of an Emblem inciting its bearer to Engage.
千の未来に祝福を/Bless from thousand futures = refering to Alear's milenia slumbering, the blessing refering to Lumera's blessing cast on Alear
夢人かすむ刹那/dreamer bereft of a moment of peace = refering to Alear again
The first verse introduces the 4 kingdom with each of the ring entrusted to said kingdom's invocation figuring in the lyrics
君は笑み護る花/ You are a smilling protective flower = the flower refering to Firene while the protective comes from Celica's invocation spell "Protect us"
立ち向かう黒鋼/A black steel that stand against elements = the black steel refering to Brodia and the standing comes from Roy's invocation spell " Stand up"
戦いの熱砂/The hot sand of the battlefield = the hot sand refers to Solm, the battlefield is a refernce to Ike's spell "Fight on !"
君は吹き渡る雪/You are the snow blowing across = the snow refering to Elusia, the blowing across to Lyn's spell " Sweep across!"
晴れ渡る明と昏が/The clear dawn and sleeping dusk = a reference to the Renais Twins, Eirika being the sleeping dusk/refering to her abilitity "Nocturne" whereas the clear Dawn is a wink to Ephraim and is ability "Sol". The reference to the two sky is also present on the cover of the game with Sombron and Lumera facing each other, with the dawn and clear sky of the day facing the reddish sky of the dusk, keeping up with the thematic of blue/red duality
教えた傷癒すから/I'll heal the wounds I taught you about = This part of the lyrics features both Micaiah and Byleth's invocation spell, "Heal us" and "Teach us". Also a reference to the wounds of the past that appears in the ending refering to Alear's past
The 君 refers to Alear, as demonstrated by the later lyrics and also due to the fact that Marth use this prounons to refers to them.
This is made more explicit by the lyrics of the bridge.
約束した 名を呼んで/As we promised call for my name
This evocation of promise can be a reference to both Mart and Alear's promise of staying together until the end of their fight, especially when thinking about the line "call for my name" since it's a reference to the first time Alear calls for Marth in chapter 1, or the promise that Lumera and Alear made together as Lumera also mentions how she stopped to be alone "when she called Alear's name for the first time"
駆け抜けた十二の光 覚えている?/Do you remember the 12 light running across ?
If you recall Marth tells Alear at the begining of the game to remember him and the 12 Emblem, this line is refering to this, with the Emblems called Light. This additonally comes with how Alear's JPN name is Lueur, refering to the lumnious nature of the Emblem in chapter 22 as Alear is on the verge of dying again and how Sombron will call Emblem of Foundations a light too. This comes along with the whole journey that Alear goes through to go from the lueur to become the light.
赤の記憶燃え上がり/The red memory burning brightly = refering to Alear's fell nature and a wink to Memories of red Days who ends up reusing some parts of that song such as the end of the opening and if you pay attention, you can hear some of the note of the first bridge serving as the main motif of the song. Additonally, the "burning part " is Lucina's invocation spell
解き放て吼えろ 今こそ 此処へ!Unleash and howl! It's time to let go here and now ! = Corrin/Kamui and Leif's invocation spell.
Emblem Engage = obviously, the spell of fusion with the Emblems
繋げ炎 伝えよ愛を/Connect the flame, Convey your love = Alear and Sigurd's invocation spells, additionally it confirms that the narrator is adressing to Alear as, even if the second part of this lyrics is refering to Sigurd, it's pretty much what Alear is doing on their journey : connecting people and conveying love.
あの旅路のように 彼の人のように/ Like this journey did, Like this person did = refering to the adventure of the game, which precisely link our character together. This person might refer to Lumera as she is Alear's role model.
誓え絆 輝け夢よ/Swear upon our bound, shine on my dream
Refering to the main theme of Engage about connecting with people. Obvious reference to Marth's invocations spell and refering to the other thematic of Engage : realizing one's dream and living as the person you wished to be.
この空の先まで/Until we reach the end of this sky = reference to Alear's vow to protect the sky of Elyos
君と二人共に/together with you = once again refering Marth's promise to be by Alear's side until they saved the world
The first part focus on Alear's journey to become the hero they dream of being and on the events of the main game, hence the more dynamic tone for this part. It's fitting with the lyrics.
The second part of the song follows the Dlc story.
君は新たなる愛/You are the renewed love/古の傷跡/The ancient scars/褒め称う青さ/The praised blueness = refering to Nel's feelings for Alear. The new love as Alear is here to replace their alter ego causing Nel to recall her "ancient scars" and the blueness refering to how this Alear is born divine dragon while keeping up with the blue/red duality by echoing to the "red memory" part.
The lyrics 君は借り物の影/You are a borrowed shadow being another wink to Alear's replacement but also a reference to Rafal's impersonating as Nil. It is more likely to be the case with the evocation of the shadow since that's where Rafal hides in the DLC.
夢に観た頁にまた/ Reappearing in the page of my dream = Reference to Tiki's incantation "Dream on" and reference to Nel and Alear's relationship yet again.
光謀る兆まで/till there's a glorious omen = referencing to Soren's incantation "Plot" (but the sense of this lyric is supposed to be postive hence it's translated as omen)
喪失さえ 誓い合う/Even loss is a pledge = reference to both Nel's pinky promise with Alear and the Wings pledge upon Mauve's death
微睡んだ七つの炎 覚えていて/Remember the seven slumbering flames = echoing to the lyrics of the first part of the bridge, but where the narrator asked a question, he is here asking Alear to remember the Emblems of the bracelets which makes sense : unlike for the 12 Emblem that Alear had met at some points 1 000 ago, they are unfamiliar with the Emblems of the bracelets and by the end of the Xenologue, said Emblems vanishes to arrive in our Elyos.
銀の縁駆け出して/with a silver edge running out 舞い上がり祈れ/Soar up and pray = Camilla's invocation and a reference to the prayer of invocations
応えよ 此処に!/Answer my call here and now ! = Veronica's invocation spell
(Emblem-Etanity) = Alear's own engagement spell to turn in their Emblem form. It's also a reference to how in the Fell Xenologue, the Twins were trying to summon an Emblem and ended up with Alear, foreshadowing once again their transformation.
勇め友よ 目覚めの刻は/Courage my friend, the time of awakening is at hand = referencing to both Hector and Chrom &Robin's incantation
鏡合わせのように/Matching like in a mirror = referencing the whole mirror universe narrative and the twins elements
双翼のように/Clapping like a pair of wings = referencing the 4 Wings.
夜明け辿り 治めし願い/The dawn trace its arrival, as you wish for its reign = referencing the 3H lords incantation spell and the return of hope
違えぬ紅玉を/An umistakable ruby= Referencing to Alear and how Nel came to see them as who they are rather then as the Alear she knew
君と双り永遠に/With you for eternity = echoing the end of the first chorus
Focusing on the Xenologue, the lyrics focus on Nel's relationship with Alear and how they ended up restoring hope in that bleak world whose musicality was more melancholic and less energic as the begining.
最後まで君の力となろう あの日のように隣に立つ日を 君が望むのなら/I will be your strengh until the very end/ Until the day we stand together like that day/ If this is what you wish = those are Marth's line to Alear
For the last bridge we go back to the same lyrics with some variations : 再び 此処へ!/And again here we are !
此の紋章のように/Like this Emblem did = much more explicit reference to Alear turning into an Emblem
星空の先まで/Until the end of the starry sky
The final lyrics are : 絆炎の紋章士/The Emblem of Flame spunning our memories
This song is emulating the movement of a light that grow in intensity, much like Alear's journey and concluded by the evocation of the Fire Emblem. Probably the biggest homage to the serie as it's saying that the Fire Emblem represent the brightest light and is what connect people. Those lyrics at the end sounds pretty nostalgic.
It's retracing the adventure of Alear and also a love song addressed to the franchise, praising each game and celebrating how Fire Emblem worked this far.
The composition of this song sounds much lighter, but it was obviously made with the Fire Emblem theme in mind as we can find several notes/musical moment similar and/or reminiscent of this theme, the more explicit one being the begining of the song.
Finally I'll add that Ryo's singing voice gives a lot of softness to this dynamic song, but when we reach the bridge and chorus part, he goes harder

so instead of making ethlyn compelling, they turned quan into sigurd queerbait only for sigurd to have three existential crisises over eldigan, the guy he has the strongest bond with in cast. even the manga adaptation doesn't do much with deidre getting kidnapped, it was just panels of manfroy apologism.
it made me sympathize with manfroy for not killing a child despite the fact that he instigates genocides later on, in which more children get killed.
