Duoding MeiMei (?) dolls

Briefly emerging from the void to present these adorable creatures to you lol I recently got a couple things from Taobao and since shipping is kinda expensive from my proxy (I use Spreenow if anyone is wondering lol), I’ll usually throw some other stuff in there, usually dolls or small items that weren’t worthy of their own dedicated order, to justify the shipping costs lol Two of those tagalongs were these dolls-

These are from a vinyl art doll maker in China, and I really cannot figure out what their name is (the only name I’ve found is the instagram tag ‘Duodingmeimei’ but I’m not sure if that’s their name?) but they’re really cute lol. I originally found them on Aliexpress but with some help I was able to locate the artist’s TB store.  They don’t seem to be fakes; I did a fair bit of searching before I purchased any of them and I couldn’t find any dolls with this exact head or body sculpt so I’m 99% certain it’s an original design.  The full dolls are about 50$ each, but they sell their defective/reject dolls for 25$ for a set of two of your choice! Being that I am cheap, I grabbed two of the defective dolls. They both came naked (you can choose between naked or clothed, neither of their outfits were to my liking so I went with naked) and have various defects in their face paint, and each of them has one leg that is slightly longer than the other. But since they’re clearly inspired by vintage dolls, the defects are just part of the charm for me lol

Look at those chubby cheeks!! The pink one is DEFINITELY my fave and her hair is gorg after I took down the pigtails and gave it a wash:

They seem to use a variety of hair types; the pink one has nylon and the brunette has saran, and I can see a couple with doll grade kanekalon in the TB store as well.  They’re about Licca sized:

The body sculpt (I grabbed this picture from Aliexpress because I’m lazy)

The arms are wired and the torso swivels, the legs do the typical splayed-when-sitting- thing and don’t seem to have wires in them, and the head attachment is ball-and-socket so it just pops off lol

Kind of a random purchase but I’ve had my eye on them for a few months and the chubby cheeks are just so cute, she kind of gives me 3rd Gen Licca x vintage Sindy vibes.  I have no idea why these aren’t more popular or well known, because they’re absolutely adorable, are sold at a great price and have the sweetest, cutest chubby faces ever, but I’m happy I stumbled upon them.  Currently planning to have the brunette made into a vintage shoujo-inspired Sailor Moon, those chubby cheeks are perfect for her.  (also my Rainbow High post is coming eventually, I haven’t finished styling my first set of dolls lol)

BnHA Chapter 109: Rescue Exercise

Previously on BnHA: Bakugou and Deku’s groups met up after passing phase one of the exam. Bakugou eyed Deku and was all, “I see you made that *~*~*BORROWED POWER*~*~* your own,” which caused me to lose my shit, but then he walked off without saying anything further. Aoyama and Iida were big damn heroes, but Aoyama really took the cake, firing up his laser and using it as a beacon to draw in the remaining class 1-A strays so that they could all regroup and pass. Which they did, with not a second to spare. Back in the anteroom, the 100 remaining examinees were directed to watch as the examiners demolished the testing field with a series of explosions, and then announced that phase two of the exam would be a rescue operation.

Today on BnHA: The exam guys explain that the second part of the test will involve rescuing old folks and little kids from a mock disaster site. The “victims” are professional actors who basically do this for a living. While the group waits for phase two to begin, Sero gossips to the others about Deku and the Weird Naked Girl from Shiketsu Academy. Meanwhile a polite Yeti from Shiketsu comes to apologize to Bakugou on behalf of his dick classmate (the meat lump guy from a couple chapters ago). Shouto goes up to Yoarashi and is all “is it just me or do you hate my guts” and Yoarashi is all “yeah I do, cuz your eyes remind me of Endeavor’s.” Phase two begins and the kids set off a-rescuin’. Deku gets chewed out for not being smiley enough, but recovers. Ochako decides she’s going to stop acting like she’s in a shoujo manga for the time being, which, finally!! The exam continues, with a plot twist or two very clearly on the horizon.

(As always, all comments not marked with an ETA are my unspoiled reactions from my first readthrough of this chapter. I’ve read up through chapter 148 now, so any ETAs will reflect that.)

(ETA: after this volume, FA got a new translator, and I feel like this was the original translator’s last hurrah lol. to be fair, the guy apparently had a ton of impact on early BnHA fandom. he was even the one who came up with “quirk” as a translation for kosei which obviously stuck. but all the same, I’ve definitely noticed a steep drop in the number of profanities uttered in FA’s translations since he left.)

Todoroki looks very ~moody~ here and I can’t help but feel more daddy angst is on the horizon. there’s got to be some reason why the otherwise stand-up guy Yoarashi keeps looking at him like he smells something bad

yay the character page has the characters in action again instead of just profile pictures of them! for a little while I was afraid Horikoshi was running out of steam to keep doing these. I really like them every time he does one and this is no exception

so the first thing I wondered upon reading this opening panel (“we’ll be having you conduct rescues as ‘bystanders’ at this disaster site”) is, what the fuck do they mean by “bystanders.” but thankfully the kids are asking the exact same thing

oh, you did it as a lesson once. REMEMBER? no I don’t fucking remember because I wasn’t there. I can’t believe you did a bystander rescue lesson without me. fuck you guys!

they’re saying that they won’t be acting as ordinary citizens, but as people who’ve already secured a provisional license. so basically, heroes who happened to be onsite during the disaster

and there are the old men and kids we saw earlier

I wonder if they’re going to purposely make things as difficult for the rescuers as possible

wow, apparently they all do this professionally. they’ve got fake blood and everything

the exam guy is saying they work for the “Help Us Company” or HUC for short. haha I love this

so okay, the examinees have to rescue them and do it as professionally as possible. but are there any other crazy requirements for this exam like there have been with all of the other ones

wow, apparently not. “this time you and your rescue efforts will be graded via points.” how curiously normal. almost suspiciously so

anyway, the resemblance seems to make this more personal for them. Deku’s looking serious and determined. “let’s give it our best shot”

hoh boy Sero is coming over to Kami and Mineta and says he has something to tell them, and immediately you know it’s gonna be about that naked chick from Shiketsu

I’m so torn on this because. basically they think Deku was fooling around with her and they’re like “WHAT, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EXAM??” and caught somewhere in between outraged and impressed. but like, they’re horny teenage boys and of course they’re gonna be interested

really, if it was just Sero and Kaminari (a.k.a. the two that actually respect their fellow students and haven’t groped and/or attempted to peep on and/or raid their underwear and/or all of the other disgusting things Mineta has done or tried to do), I wouldn’t mind it, because really they’re just gossiping and fantasizing. but as usual Mineta ruins everything

hmmmmm. is this sincere? I don’t fucking trust anyone from any of these other schools until the exam is finally over

meanwhile Ochako is staring at Camie with a weirdly contemplative look

jealousy!?!??! like, is it not obvious?? there’s a whole shipping thing that Horikoshi is trying to do with you and Deku here, but I’m really skeptical of his ability to pull it off even remotely gracefully. but it sure doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere so I guess WE SHALL SEE

whoa now all of a sudden a voice is blaring over the speakers and interrupting all of their teenage shenanigans

finally. Todoroki angst aside, that was beginning to get tiresome

and here they go!

I wonder if they’re also going to be tested on their ability to work with the kids from the other schools here. because in a real life rescue effort, they’d have to put aside their differences. and that scene just before this sure did a good fucking job of establishing that various people here all have various beefs. I hope they don’t get sidetracked by that

so they’re all setting off, and they’re wondering how they’re going to be graded. well, my speculation is that the ones who bring the others together and work cooperatively will get the highest score. in other words, I think this test is going to weed out the ones with too much ego, among other things

and thankfully the last page seems to be introducing some sort of twist, because things were getting a little too straightforward for a finale lol

Multi-Fandom Hidden KARD Tag

1. How’d you get into KARD?

They had just released Don’t Recall, and I recall (ha.) that they kept showing up on my dash, so i decided to watch the video because the video looked really interesting. Also I had never actually seen an active co-ed group, so I watched Don’t Recall, and I was hooked!! The song was/is amazing, the group dynamic was fantastic, and now I’m here haha!

 2. Who’s your bias (if you have one)?

I like all of them equally. They all bring something unique to the group, so I really love all of them because of that. Their group dynamic is so amazing, and they’re all so chill and sweet, so it really is difficult to say I love one of them more than the others. Still, I did tell Matthew that I loved him in LA, so maybe I’m like a tiny bit more biased towards him??? But only a bit. I love all of KARD so much; it’s really hard for me to just choose one. 

 3. How long have you been a Hidden?

Since Don’t Recall. That song just snatched me up and said, ‘Hey we’re in this for the long run now. Good luck.’

 4. Any ships you’re interested in in the group?

Not really. I’ve never been one to ship people, so yeah.

1. Which kpop groups/bands do you like? 

Besides KARD, I really love SHINee, EXO, f(x), VIXX, Monsta X, Red Velvet, The Rose, Day6, BTS ; honestly, the list is pretty long. 

 2. What other fandoms are you in?

I’m a Shawol, Starlight, and MeU (alongside the Hidden KARD fandom, these are the only ones I’m super invested in. I guess EXO-L too. )

 3. Boy group or girl group stan? 

Both. I used to be more of a boy group stan, but the girl groups have so much to offer, and they are really talented. I have to give the girls my love too!!!

 4. Which of your favorite groups would you like KARD to interact with? 

I would love for them to interact more with EXO, now that they mentioned they liked KoKoBop (also because B.M was jamming to KKB so hard haha!)

 5. Which group got you into kpop? 

So technically it was Brown Eyed Girls with their song ‘Sign,’ but SHINee was the first group I really got into. I followed all their varieties, live performances, interviews, etc.

 6. Who did you 1st listen to in kpop? 

Brown Eyed Girls, SHINee, and 2pm were my first K-Pop groups.

 7. Do you like any solo artists?

Park Hyo Shin is my main man, but I really like Dean, Ailee, IU, Zion.T, Heize, and Eric Nam.

 8. Do you like any other artists from DSP? 

I’ve seen a couple of April things because of Somin, but I don’t really follow any other DSP artists like I follow KARD.

 9. Besides KARD, are you into any other co-ed groups (both currently active or disbanded)?

I don’t.

 10. Have you tried showing any friends kpop? If so, how’d they react? 

I have showed two friends K-Pop things, and both have quickly become fans! Most of my friends were already into K-Pop though!

 11. Which concept has been your favorite out of any group you stan? 

I really loved VIXX’s Voodoo Doll concept ( I like dark concepts in general). I think they did a phenomenal job at pulling off the gore. I hope that KARD will explore more varying concepts in the future too! I think KARD has the potential to pull off many kinds of concepts!!!

 12. If your biases from the different groups you stan were all in the same room, who would you try to speak to 1st (y’know, after most likely freaking out)? 

It would definitely be Jonghyun from SHINee. He’s my ultimate bias, but I would really love to thank him for his music and his words because they’ve been of such great help to me during hard times. He and his work mean so much to me, so I would love to just let him know that.

 13. Aside from ‘Hola Hola’ (pff obviously), which debut/comeback has been your favorite in 2017? 

The Rose’s debut with ‘Sorry’ has been one of my favorites, along with ‘Hola Hola.’ They are such a talented band, and their song is such a heartfelt one; I’m really hooked on them too right now.

 14. Is KARD your bias group? If not, then who? 

KARD is definitely up there! But my top group is SHINee; they really mean the world to me.

 15. If you could hang out with any kpop group for a day, who would it be?

KARD. I think they would be so much fun to hang out with! Just watching them in Secret KARD, and seeing how they find enjoyment in even the smallest things makes me really just want to spend the day with them. They’re also pretty laid back, so I know they wouldn’t be difficult to get along with from the get go! 

  16. Do you have any favorite fansites out of all the groups you stan? 

All of the other KARD blogs I follow (you are all so amazing. I love you all!). 

 17. In anticipation for KARD’s future lightstick to be made/released who-know-when, whose lighstick do you like most? 

I really like and want VIXX’s lightstick. The color is so pretty, and I like that it has the star design in the lights as well. I really want to know what the KARD lightstick will look like. I also want to know what our official colors will be!! 

 18. Fandoms can be problematic and make it difficult to show pride in being in them. Which fandom are you most proud of being a part of? 

Hidden KARD!! Honestly, all of the HK’s I’ve seen and interacted with are so chill (just like KARD), loving, and talented! You have all shown so much positive love to our KARD, and you are all so supportive; it’s such a beautiful thing to see!! You are all so amazing. I really do love being a part of this fandom so much!! Thank you for making being part of this fandom such a great experience!!

 19. Which fandom name do you like the most? 

Hidden KARD because we are the ‘d’ that completes the group (which I think is the sweetest thing on the planet!) I like that sort of sentiment, so I really love the name. I also really like Starlight because it’s just such a pretty name, and again the sentiment behind it warms my heart.

 20. If you could only listen to one kpop group for the rest of your life, who would it be?

I love KARD with all of my heart; I really do, but I have to go with SHINee.
