My disappointment was immeasurable when i realized there was a canon humanformers TF:Animated episode, and the human designs were just this:

THIS WAS SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY! THEY ARE SO BORING! So i took it upon myself to redraw it. 😌

I know Prowl wasn’t in this scene, but i wanted an excuse to draw him anyway. He’s silly and i love him.

I tried to push the scale a little bit too, because i imagine the team would be feeling pretty small in a medbay built for cybertronians. Imagine Ratchet is standing on something out of the shot.

genuinely, no criticism I have about Campaign 3 will ever be as harsh and insulting as people who keep trying to defend it by saying "why do you want coherence or stakes or narrative follow through from an actual play? it's a ttrpg game, you can't expect it to have these things. also, the ending being happy is more important than any of those things."

like, that is the meanest thing you can say about this campaign, the storytelling ability of the cast, and actual play as a narrative form. that you can't expect coherence and stakes and narrative follow through from any of it and that personal wish fulfillment is more important to the work than telling a good story.

that "defense" is perhaps the most belittling and demeaning of the show as an artwork and of the cast as storytellers and of the form as a medium I've seen in a while. genuinely meaner and more dismissive than any criticisms of this campaign I've seen.

"it's fine and good because you can't expect it to make sense or be anything other than self-indulgence" Jesus Christ. if a significant number of people tried to defend MY work like this, I'd spend the next several months doing some serious soul searching.

For a campaign that was supposed to have higher stakes I gotta say it doesn’t feel like they ever showed up. There wasn’t any finding out for any of the fucking around. Just, I don’t know what happened that BH ended up with plot armor a mile thick but it just feels bad.

What was the point of any of it, if none of it mattered, and no one had to deal with the consequences of their actions?

Yeah again it's like, a solid 90% of the results are fine-to-great actually but almost none of it feels like it followed or was earned. If I may I think this is the greatest condemnation of the oft-repeated defense of "but it's improv." Improv is about picking up what your partners are putting down. Improv is about seeing their choice and saying "yes, and". It feels like throughout this campaign a choice would be made (far less often than they should have been, but sometimes choices were made at least) and the response was not "yes, and" but "ok, well" or "anyway, then." And frustratingly a lot of it was Matt setting up the scene and then "ok, well" or "anyway, then"-ing himself: The Ruby Vanguard has a poison that prevents healing and resurrection! And then instead of "yes, and that means going up against the Vanguard requires a careful strategy because they can permanently kill you and you only have a few uses of the antidote" the improv inevitably was "ok, well, they don't use it when they attack Bells Hells." And it felt like that was the whole campaign - not even with the characters not dying but just, them being entitled and unpleasant and everyone kind of being like "anyway, then people are irritated as they have been in the past 5 encounters with you but they still let this go forward."

While I have Many Thoughts on the plan to convince the gods to go mortal, most of which others have already addressed at length (mainly how the fuck is this going to work in practice in both the long and short run, and also really cool idea but could’ve been set up better), I haven’t seen anyone bring up how this particular solution may actually bring a chance at change and growth for the gods that has so far been withheld from them.

Because, until now, the pantheon as a whole has been sort of - stuck. They went from beings of endless possibility in Tengar to being distillied and calcified through trauma into a single trait, the domains of which they became gods. The primes and betrayers aren't different sides of a war but a family locked in a struggle that will never be resolved because neither side will ever relent, nor are they either truly willing or capable of (being immortal) killing each other. They seem incapable of truly changing, and several of them (notably the Arch Heart and the Raven Queen) have expressed simply being tired. They don’t necessarily want to die, but they recognize a need for change, just that they themselves can't be the instigators of it.

The god debate hasn’t really taken this into account, though the overhanging shadow of it has been growing heavier since downfall. The kill-all-gods side obviously has no reason to care whether the gods are locked in endless misery (other than using it as an additional excuse for murder), but the save-all-gods side isn't any more helpful when it comes to this particular issue. Saving the gods won’t heal them.

Maybe becoming mortal (however many, many issues that brings with it) could actually allow them to become whole as people the way mortals are, no longer as strictly tied to their domains. Now that the entirety of Exandria no longer rests on them playing nice, maybe they can find a way to resolve their family feud (through blood or reconciliation). Perhaps, as mortals, they can even eventually even find a way to live a full, final life and find rest at the end of it.

hm. "Lie" about what happened to their eye? Perhaps some would think of it like that Suuuure R!Siffrin wouldn't tell the truth, but instead of lying about it they'd just ask in return "what do you think happened to my eye?" and then smile :) at every answer no matter how far away from the truth it is
