This is Deezo. I have Deezo, but that picture is not of my Deezo. I love Deezo, because I too want do be something very niche but still important relating to bodies of water when I grow up. Do you think Deezo is friend-shaped? (I know that commercially, he is supposed to be, but so are butterflies, and I'm terrified of them.)

He may come from a deep-sea but he is indeed friend shaped!

It's day three of my Birthday Week of 2023. Today there are two tops; one for infants, one for toddlers. They have Squishmallow patterns, because Squishmallows are awesome. (I'm a wee bit obsessed.) They are based on the little graphic on the tag. I recreated them myself.

Please understand that I perhaps may seem like a very mature individual (thank you it’s the depression) I saw a squishmellow at Walgreens, and his name is Deezo so me being me, I bought it crossed out the “o” and wrote “nuts” so now it reads:

Azza Hussein in NYC, DAY 2 & 3

April 19 & 20 - It took me some time to recall the events from the past couple of days. I rehearsed the sequence in my head so I wouldn't lose track of the days: Cathedral. Paley Park. NY Public Library. Ariel. Nancy. 9/11. The vegan talk. The next day; Deezo, Robin and the 4:20 at the Cannabis festival, and the Bachata dance class.

One day I would like to write about the cannabis community, Nancy, and the muslim veiled woman who prayed to all the saints in St. Patrick's Cathedral.

It was a wrong subway direction that led me to the 9/11 memorial. The image of the void where the twin towers once stood stayed with me. The helicopters hovering above like watchdogs and their noise intensified the experience, and despite my curiosity, I chose not to ask anyone about them or look up their purpose.. I never tire of this immature behavior. I relished the mystery of not knowing. I wanted to keep the experience suspended. I imagined the helicopters as part of the memorial, watching over the tears that will never fill the void. 

I vividly remembered watching the attacks on the news, 22 years younger. Were we aware then of how much this moment would alter the world’s psyche? There’s a secret strong connection between encounters and memories.
